25Aug19. This place is always crowded. I ordered the mixed plate. It had beef, fish, chicken and rice and macaroni salad. It was a lot of food for a reasonable price. Service was fast and food was tasty. The only issue I had was the birds were annoying.
Good local food, customer service is hit or miss, lady wouldn't even make eye contact or take order. I believe the yelp fame has gone a little to their heads
Poor service, poor quality. I asked several times for no bread. No need to waste the food I don't eat. They ignored me completely. No only was order wrong, they didn't give or even offer a utensil or napkin. I had to ask at least four times for that stuff. Years ago it was great. I wouldn't recommend it all. It deserves zero stars.
AWESOME, AFFORDABLE, SEEMS TO BE A LOCAL FAVORITE. Great local food but not a ton for main-lander kids. If you only eat pizza and kraft blue box this will not work out for you. WE HAD THE MIXED PLATE. It was great, especially the fish. This place serves my favorite mac salad. GO HERE.
The food is too good. It is -AMAZING -OUTSTANDING -SPECTACULAR -TOO GOOD TO BE REAL!! YOU GOTTA GO!!!
Love this place! Only request is : please put cream out during breakfast. Thank you!
Hawaiian classic, went late at night, fast service. They give it to you in a takeout cardboard box already so it’s convenient. Had the loco moco, gravy was on point
Great food at reasonable prices. The food isn't the healthiest but it is filling. Even though I lived in Hawaii I didn't try this place until after I moved away. That's probably a good thing for my waistline. My favorite items are the shoyu chicken and chicken with gravy. Zippy used to be the go to place when I come home. That place is now Rainbow. Parking is limited so I rec going at off peak times. Seating is outdoors and limited.
I saw this place on the e-net and it said great plac to go. I agree. Fast service, good prices, friendly staff. I wanted to get away from the tourist traps in Waikiki. Local spot, I would recommend it. I got a combo plate.
The loco moco was delish. The actually place was kind of like a dive, but the food makes up for that! I'd def recommend going there!
Yummy yummy 1 of my must go to places
The Loco moco was a delicious combination of a beef patty and rice smothered with eggs over easy. This unusual combination is surprisingly tasty and filling! I loved the local food and new flavors of an old school meal with lots of yummy gravy!
On Oahu... Gotta go toRainbows. Cheap. fast, local. And not far from Waikiki.
Very intresting and unique place . Saw a lot of locals and young ones hanging out eating there . Food was reasonable low priced. Food was great
Shoyu Chicken isss yum! Not a huge fan of the mac salad though. I will definitely miss this place when I leave the island.
This place was awesome! The pigeons are a little annoying, but they were totally worth it for the food! The service was fast and the staff was very friendly. My family ordered the bbq sandwich, mahi plate, tuna sandwich, and the tater tots. We all throughly enjoyed the food. I would recommend coming here
Lower cost good Hawaiian food.
The food is very good. I usually don't eat fish, but how they prepare it is outstanding, absolutely no fishy taste, liked it very much. The prices are very good. The orders prepared fast. If you want a good meal always ask the receptionists where the locals eat.
It wasn’t as good as I expected. Honestly speaking, I wish I didn’t eat there. There are many other places served better locomoco.

Great food at affordable prices!!
Cool local place to get a loco moco plate or almost anything else on their large menu. Cool vibes, friendly service. There are tables, picnic benches and seats all around.
Delicious food, great prices
Great food, great prices, quick service even when busy. Macaroni salad is fantastic!
Delicious food at affordable prices. Good portions and good flavors. Featured on Guy Fieri's Diners Drive Ins and Dives
Love this food!! This is like my childhood. This stuff is the real deal Hawaiian food. Fast service, good prices, great food.
Decent breakfast place with large portions but food was just ok
The food is sooo good and fresh a must try when in wakiki
An awesome experience! Great food Filming location in LOST: Sayid and Hurley drove to this place to get some comfort food in "Because you Left" (Season 5, episode 1)
Great local dive place. Heard this place was on Guy's Triple D show so I had to come by. It's not in the Waikiki Tourist zone. Plus, I noticed that this seemed like a local's place. I love the multiple covered seating areas. I was about the ordered multiple items until I saw the sizes from others. The serving size here is very big so come hungry especially if you order the Mixed Plate. A local version of Chicken Fried Chicken along with some good fried Mahi and a Thin slice of skirt beef. I would recommend getting the gravy. It's a little sweet for Brown gravy but it tastes awesome with the Chicken. Two scoops of rice and some cold Macaroni salad completes this dish. I was saying, "... Holy Cow, all of this for under $11!". The breading of the chicken was amazing. Some pieces were a little tough to cut thru but it's worth the effort.
Good food and vibes, fast service, little busy during rush but still has a friendly atmosphere.
First place we had to eat on our first trip to Hawaii. If course we got the Loco Moco. It was amazing and I am not a fan of Mac salad, however this Mac was amazing. We will eat here again during the week. It wasn't busy when we went and plenty of seating for people. Tight parking but a great place to eat.
Cool place, decent food. I would say I've had some other better Hawaiian food elsewhere, but it definitely hits the spot being walking distance from Waikiki. The others are a bit of a drive. I really like this place for the desert. Get some vanilla ice cream and the fried apple pie, heaven on Earth. Enjoy!
Packed consistently but worth the wait! Service is fast and the workers are very friendly!!! Definitely a must go to place for local style-kine food! Prices are great for the portions given for each meal. Also one of the restaurants featured on Food Network's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives"
Favorite spot for locals to eat reasonable Pricing and tasty
The food was so good. Great price as well. This is the only place we ate at twice on our vacation because it was that good. The meat is so tender and delicious.
Chicken was under cooked but everything else was so good
It seems like if this is a place that a lot of people recommend when you're visiting Hawaii and are looking for some cheap eats. I can't say that I really enjoyed the food at all. I've had basic food that was on the cheaper side before but quite honestly what they serve here he's basically a plateful of slop. I'm not sure why there's a long lines in front of this place at all. Honestly I think there's plenty of other local spots that you could consider and still get a good meal instead of coming to Rainbow Drive-In.
With the good rating. I figure we try it and food was good, but I was thinking it would be better. We got the combo plate and the beef was the tastiest. Overall it's not a bad place for a quick meal.
Super goodness comfort Hawaiian. All outdoor and greatness. Really this is good quick tasty food . Eat here please .
Delicious cheeseburger and cheap. Gravy fries are the best I have ever tried. Portions on the plates are large... hamburger is perfect size. Everything is delicious.
Cashier lady (on their hiring poster - smiling one in the middle) was definately not smiling (rude) when she was taking our order. It was 9am, but I guess she was already having a bad day. Food was good for the price.
Food was decent, prices were great! Parking is rough but there are plenty of spots just a lot of volume coming in to eat ! Zero frills joint
Brought the family here as it was recommended to us tourists. Food was okay, some people (like me) finished off their mixed plates while others left some stuff behind. Fries are on point, gravy was AMAAAAAZING. Mahi was good, burger was pretty standard, everything else was medium. I feel like this isn't a place you would "take someone to." This is more of a place you "End up at." Like, it's x hour in the morning, you're drunk, you need some greasy grub, you and your friends pile into the truck and order up 5 mixed plates and tots and go to town.
Enjoy!
We ate here with some friends and had a great time. The quality of their food is very good. I got the Shoyu Chicken and the portion was a lot too. The chicken had a lot of flavor and the sauce poured on top was great. The service fast even though we had a large party and they were busy. Everyone in our party got something different and they all loved what they got. The only seating is outside but they have plenty of room. Try this place out, you'll love it!
Best place to get a taste of authentic local food! Don't forget to try the loco moco!
Great local spot. Walked here to enjoy some local Hawaiian plate dinner, after reading reviews. Ordered the mix plate, which fed two of us, the food tasted great cooked well. Service was fast and friendly.
Packed consistently but worth the wait! Service is fast and the workers are very friendly!!! Definitely a must go to place for local style-kine food! Prices are great for the portions given for each meal. Also one of the restaurants featured on Food Network's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives"
A great, quick, cheaper option on the island! Love the Royal cheeseburger (double patty cheeseburger with all the fixins). The BBQ beef plate was excellent as well. Not a huge fan of the mac salad, but I'm not a fan of it anywhere really haha. Parking is pretty limited for how popular it is, and there are only a handful of tables -- it's perfect to grab and go. No ketchup packets if you're getting fries to go. That's probably my only complaint. Although they're nothing special, my husband enjoyed the saimin noodles. They're cheap and decent. We went two days in a row due to convenience and quality/portions for the price!
I loved this place! Though I understand why some people won't. Dirty tables and birds everywhere. The food was cheap and so good. It was also enough for two additional meals!
Someone recommended that we give this Hawaii staple a try. Ordered the mixed plate, Moco Loco, and burger. The fish on the mixed plate was actually tasty and the burger was ok. I personally just didn't care for the food at all outside of that. Tasted old and was super greasy.
Boneless chicken with gravy, Local Moco, Mixed Plate if you can't decide what you want since it comes with BBQ meat, boneless chicken and a piece of fish. Don't forget the slush float. And of course if you go around the corner to the left you can get waffle hot dogs as well. And on the right they have a souvenir shop.
Overrated food. Patties on loco moco are thin and tasteless. The fish and Mayo and grilled BBQ are good. Plates are about $9-10. If you want loco moco go to cinnamon instead, it's much better.
Definitely not the Rainbows I grew up with. Less aloha spirit.
Service is average, and there are better plate lunches in Honolulu. But it's pretty quick and easy and a staple of Oahu for visitors.
It’s a great dinner with traditional grub. We ended a private tour by having lunch here. We tried a little bit of everything and it was all pretty tasty.
For me its basic comfort food...
A nice cheap and most importantly, delicious drive in dinner. Just a 10 minute walk from wakiki beach. Definitely worth a visit. Portions are hearty.
Great Asian style BBQ, local walk-up joint with outside tables. Not fancy, but tender and delicious.
None of our group was very impressed with tour experience at Rainbow Drive In. The tables were absolutely covered in bird feces, which happens but it seemed like the table tops had not been cleaned in some time. The food was unremarkable at best. Rice was slightly overcooked, the Shoyu chicken had very little flavor. The rest of my group had Moco Loco and was very disappointed. They were not incredibly busy and they did get the food out quickly. The prices are very good for this area, but maybe not so good for the quality.
Rainbow drive in is a local staple. We go here for breakfast mainly. The loco moco is delicious, hearty, and a great value. 2 eggs any style atop your favorite meat and two scoops of rice. Yum! I recommend finishing it off with an apple pie.
The pork roast with gravy and mashed potatos and macaroni salad was filling and very reasonably priced. I love it
Really good food, but kind of a dive. Would definitely eat here again. Tried lots of things with the fam, and all were good.
Definitely not one of the best plate lunch places on the island. But it is affordable and decent enough for a 3 star!
Excellent food. Hawaii landmark. Recommend slush floats
Food was passable but one thing I can say that others might overlook is that the apple pie for $0.95 reminds me of the McDonald's apple pies when I was a kid. Crispy bubbles on the outside surface that have a nice crunch. The middle is goey and just sweet enough so you don't feel too guilty eating it. I'd come again just for the apple pie because McDonald's doesn't make them this way anymore.
Good food but could use a little bit of remodeling
Awesome local food for cheap!
Great food for the price!!
I really wanted to like this place, especially after all the reviews it has. Unfortunately it’s an acquired taste. Service was great and super fast. I had the combo plate and the fish was okay, but I couldn’t eat the chicken. Certainly homemade effort which I can appreciate but won’t be going back.
Food is always amazing! Service is always quick, and line is usually short. One of my favorite places to eat in Honolulu.
This place has great good at great prices, I went during lunch time so the lines were a bit long but it was worth it. You get a lot of food for the price. I got the mix plate which had mahi, beef, and chicken as well as macaroni salad and rice it was more than filling for one person.
Good food. Lots of food for the price. Carry out better than eating there.
Earth time to this island and as soon as I get off the plane the first place I run to is here amazing food wonderful price great employees I just love this place
Long line. Husband got sick from the eggs we believe or maybe all the half dead nasty birds walking on the tables
Not bad, but it's more for the famous aspect in my opinion. The meals are cheap, the portions are big, and the food is alright. It's certainly not bad by any means, but I've just had better on the island. It's a good spot to go for a quick, filling lunch, but I wasn't blown away.
Good inexpensive place in Honolulu- hard to find. Don’t expect much and it will exceed those expectations.
I must be missing something! This highly recommended place was a disaster, as far as I was concerned. I ordered beef patties with rice and gravy. Three thin, dried out, tasteless patties (think leather rounds) and super dry rice was covered with a fairly good gravy. At least the included mac salad was tasty though! I ordered ice tea, which was served with very little ice and all was melted by the time I was half way through this lackluster meal. I had to get extra napkins to wipe bird poop off the table and seat before I could even sit down. Pidgeons that looked like they had some sort of major disease, or climbed out of some oil tank, kept landing on the table, as sparrows tried to steal food from my plate. I'm sorry, but my experience here was not even close to being acceptable. Again, perhaps I misjudged previous ratings or missed something. But, I will not return. Aloha.
Loved it
This is my favorite plate lunch place in Hawaii. They have outdoor seating only, lots of birds and flies attack while you eat so we usually order to go. The parking lot is tough if you have a large vehicle, as it's usually busy. They box up the plates with silverware if you order to go. There is always a line, but the service is friendly and quick. Each plate comes with the entree and your choice of rice or fries and slaw or mac salad. I always go rice and mac salad. The mac salad has no onions, so that's a plus for me as I hate raw onion. The plates are $8 to $12 or so. While we were there, our group got loco moco, mahi mahi, bbq beef plate, and bbq mix plate(bbq beef, pork and mahi mahi). All are delicious if you like Hawaiian style plate lunch. Loco moco is always my go to. Over easy eggs, gravy, hamburger over rice and max salad. Delicious.
The BBQ beef sandwich and chili tots were great. Quick service.
Whelming. If you want simple, straight to the point food, look no further. It wont blow your socks off but its decent and fast and has that local feel to it.
I'll take a mocoloco, no egg! This crew is great! Awesome to chat with. Mahalo plenty!
Locals come here you know its good!
Such a great spot to stop for a plate lunch. Old style drive in with outside seating. Plenty of seats and shade.
This food is so so so so so good and cheap. I highly recommend if you are a tourist to get some grub here. I am sure we will be back before the trip is over. Cheap and tasty food with quick service. Yes please. Oh and I do recommend the slushi!
Rainbow Drive-in was a great experience for my wife and I, we both really enjoyed our choices. I chose the loco moco and my wife had the BBQ pork plate. The loco moco was good but as you might imagine it was pretty heavy. The BBQ was really good, sweet and yet tender, the pork was our highlight. This place is good but expect a good long line most times of the day
One of the last of Hawaii’s old time style Drive Inn’s. Great food and will not break your budget. Open air seating. Serves a lot of your classic and favorite Hawaiian style plate lunches.
Flippin’ fantastic food. Both plates we got were so delicious and so much food. They handled the massive amounts of people wanting food very quickly. Must go. No complaints
Home food feeling. Very casual. Tasty.
What a great little spot. Feels like home. Your know that local spot you take all your friends to when they visit? This is Oahus version of that. Everything was delicious, plenty of seating for being a walk up eating stand. I highly recommend the mix plate or BBQ beef plate lunch
Iconic eatery that has been there forever. Hawaiian Plate lunches are the specialties. This establishment has been in many movies and if you ask any locals where it is, first they would laugh but then direct you to the spot. Bring a big appetite and enjoy.
Sorry but to me, it was only ok. My son and future daughter in law really love it. To me pretty average loco moco.
Conveniently located near the city. Great value for your buck. Hearty meals that will fill your belly for the day.
One of the most solid eats. Chose the mix plate which comes with fried fish, fried chicken and beef. Served with rice, mac salad and tartar sauce. Believe you could add gravy for 50 cents. What's not to like?
Good food. Quick service even though they were busy.

One of our must stop in Hawaii...lines can get long too so be ready to order when get to the window...loco moco is amazing they've got smaller portion options too, minus extra scoop of rice and macaroni salad...we tried the chicken long rice which is also known as sotanghon to Filipinos...and the mix plate for the super hungry. Very generous portions.
It was really good food and friendly service. We we're here 9 years ago and I don't think a single thing has changed. The burgers are tiny so keep that in mind. About the size of McDonald's but much much better.
Hawaiian food in large amount. Satisfactory. they could use some paint.
We shared a variety of mixed plates among us (mixed plate, hamburger steak with gravy, boneless chicken with gravy). Plates are worth sharing. Everything tasted really good. I would eat any of these plates again.
My wife loves this place, an institution for local kine grinds. I found nothing special for me cause I'm Haole.
Used to be my first stop when we come to Hawaii. The plates have gotten smaller & the quality of the food isn't as good as it used to be.
Hawaiian plates, good value.
Good Island food! Was recommended by a local and didn’t disappoint
Mix plate and Loco Moco Bowl are totally enough for two persons to share. Mix plate includes fried fish, chicken and beef with fries and salad so you can enjoy various meats if you are a meat lover. It’s okay but not that tasty as reviews described. It took us almost half hour to line up and get the meals. Btw the local drinks Hawaiian Sun Passion and Orange flavor is so nice! Highly recommended. You can find it at ABC store or any supermarket.
Totally lived up to the hype & reviews. Ordered the loco moco and was amazing. Wasn't sure about the macaroni salad, but was a nice touch.
Very good prices. Taste ok, but not exceptional. Very meat based good - nothing for vegetarians.
Best food I had in Oahu! My husband and I came back twice. First time I got the roast pork plate and he got the BBQ pork plate. Both great. Second time we both got the BBQ pork plate because it was just that darn good.
Friendly and fast ser6
A lot of food for the price. Outside seating and small parking lot so we walked. I had the mix plate which had a lot. The food was out fast. The lilikoi passion fruit drink is so good, sweet and tangy.
Loco moco is to die for. Mac salad side is delicious.
if i could, i would give it 10 stars!! Always a great place to eat. fast service and great local food. been eating here ever time i visited Oahu from Maui. Over 20 years and the food always tasted the same, ONO!! Now my kids love it and hopefully their kids will in the future will too.
I really liked this place. If you don't live in Hawaii, some of the food might seem weird. I got the mixed plate with chicken, beef, fish. Very good. Good prices. Parking is hard. Service was fast on my visit. I will return!
Like other reviews say, just wait in the parking lot for a spot, people come and go pretty quickly. Food here was great comfort food. Everything was awesome at a really great price. Must try if you're in the area, definitely find a way to come here to try Hawaiian food cooked the way locals like it. It seems like most other places throw their own flare on things (which isn't a bad thing) but at Rainbow they just do it the simple and tasty way.
The Rainbow Drive-In offers humongous portions for a low price! I came here extremely hungry and left satisfied. The service was friendly and fast, plus the food was top-notch! If I'm ever back in Waikiki I will definitely visit here again. I recommend coming here when you're hungry!
We asked where do locals eat near Waikiki? Rainbow Drive in is the answer, and poki bowls is the core of the menu. Medium-fast food served at walk up windows and eaten at outdoor picnic tables. Reasonably priced.
Good food, generous portions. Home cooking in a drive in. Staff was very friendly and we felt very comfortable here. Very affordable food for the Hawaii visitor.
I was not an fan of the cuisine or the atmosphere.
The quality has gone down the past few years, which is really disappointing given all the popularity this place has. What's even more unappetizing is the cleanliness; the gigantic trash bin in the parking lot is uncovered, the trash cans aren't covered and no one really cleans the eating area so the birds eat all the trash and look really sickly. It doesn't take much to upkeep, I really hope they can take care of the area better in the future. I don't see myself coming back here otherwise.
Delicious food, have to try the mixed plate with the gravy or the loco moco
Hawaiian plates just like the locals like them. I loved it!
Love it ❤❤❤❤ I could eat it for every meal
This place is an institution so we had to try it. The mix plate was ok - cuts of meat were a bit gristly and thin, but the flavours were good. The ahi plate was divine. Drinks huge and cheap. I’d try the slush float next time, and the loco moco.
Their Kapahulu outlet is much better than Kalihi
Rainbow Drive in is authentic Hawaiian food that’s been a longstanding business, pretty well known and it’s advertised in various places (you can even see t-shirts sold in Uniqlo of their brand). Came here twice: to try the Mixed plate [fish, chicken and beef] and the Loco Moco -- both were worth it. There are plenty of outdoor tables to sit at, and they have a phone-order line as well. Ono!
Great gravy excellent Chili fries loco moco super yum, very quick service!!
Great food at excellent prices! It gets busy but that’s how you know it’s good!
Location: 4/5, stars outskirts of waikiki close to ala wai golf course the zoo and kapahulu. Service: 4/5, stars nice ladies taking your orders quick fast and easy. Quality: 3/5 stars, food is ok... cheap fast... good and a lot. Cleanliness: 4/5 stars, seems to be fairly clean for being so old. Parking: 3/5 This place gets parking and some stalls are better than others. Depending on the time youncome will determine the parking availability. My Opinion: cheap.. fast... good .. and a lot! Same Rainbows quality for years! And good ol' drive in for the good ol' days... I don't like their gravy so I order it on the side ... but their chilli and baked chicken is bomb.
Food was very tasty, parking was atrocious. I particularly enjoyed the combo plate lunch, the mahi and chicken being the highlights. The slaw has sesame and tastes great! Overcrowded though and my entire party didn't feel as happy about the food as I was.
The moco loco is pretty good, best place to try it
The Rainbow Drive-in is a must go. It is 10 minutes away from Waikiki on Ohou by bus, taxi or your favorite travel. You should try the Loco-Moco plate. It has first tice, 2 hamburger patties, gravy and then to eggs on top on hover you like them. This plate was invented in the big Haiwain island. You will absolutely Love this!
I knew there was a reason there was a long line of locals.....delicious!
I had the Moco Loco it was good except the rice tasted fishy
One of the best local food of the island. We love it. I recommend the mix plate it has it all. Is super good and affordable food.
This place was suggested to us by so many local Hawaiians so we decided to check it out. The place is pretty busy so be prepared to wait in line. Be aware that there are 3 lines so pick whichever is the shortest. The food was good but nothing to go crazy about.
Every time we come to Oahu we make a trip here. I wouldn't say it's the best food on the island, but it's reasonably priced and you get big portions. It's like Hawaiian comfort food. The Loco Moco plate is my favorite... Two burger patties topped with eggs and gravy, Mac salad, and rice. The shoyu chicken is also really good.
Way way way overrated. Dirty seating, food was visually unappealing and the gravy was so-so at best.
Generous portions. Cheap eats
Great food, friendly staff. It was so nice to be home again.
Food is good and affordable. Highly reccomend the Breakfast special with BBQ. There's also a little souvenir shop with adorable shirts!
Been going here for almost 40 years and it never disappoints
I dropped in for the famous loco moco plate and was not disappointed. The eggs, hamburger, gravy, and rice were delicious; and I could only finish 2/3rds. Beyond that, my friends ordered cheeseburgers and loved them. I'd definitely stop by, there was a line when I arrived and they moved through it surprisingly quickly!
We ordered their loco moco plate. They were understaffed. But the food itself is what you would expect from fast food. If youre looking for a quick and cheap fix, this is the place. It is unfortunately not the most sanitary place there is. But the food was freshly made, and considering its a fast food restaurant, the cashier was quite pleasant and polite.
Visited for the first time and came with group of friends. We got the mixed plate, bbq Ahi, cheeseburger and baked chicken. Cheeseburger had tater sauce and we never made it past that. Didn’t care for it at all. Everything else was delicious. Side of macaroni salad, fries and a tart cole slaw were shared too. All the sides were great. Deserts looked great but we didn’t have any room.
It was OK of you like breaded deep fried food. Prices were good. No low carb options.
Delicious Moco Loco. They have Moco bowl if you're not ravenous, one scoop rice, one Patty, one egg. Just enough with room to stop by Leonard's!
Fun local diner with lots of aloha. Great prices, good portions

LOVED this place! It was a 15 minute walk from my hostel and I went there so many times because the food is superb and you get so much for your money. Fresh, high quality ingredients and unlike anything you'd get elsewhere. Eat there and eat there lots!
The Hands down place has best Teriyaki beef plate and Loco moco !! An institution in Honolulu for a great Local bite! 5-Stars !
Yummy, fast, big servings, authentic. We got Tuesday bbq ahi and fried mahi mahi
Came here for breakfast. Food was yummy and CHEAP! Can’t wait to go back and try the dinner food. Wish I would have known about this place sooner.
We got a slush float, a mix plate with gravy, rice and Mac salad, a loco moco side and a pog juice. Everything was delicious. Mix plate was awesome, drinks were great, delicious and cheap food!
Like other reviews say, just wait in the parking lot for a spot, people come and go pretty quickly. Food here was great comfort food. Everything was awesome at a really great price. Must try if you're in the area, definitely find a way to come here to try Hawaiian food cooked the way locals like it. Wish we found out about this place sooner in our visit. It seems like everything on the island is overpriced. But not at the rainbow drive-in. Really nothing particularly special about their food. But you get big healthy portions of good food for probably cheaper than anywhere else on the island. Fill your belly for reasonable prices here. We sure would again.
Great food, cheap and absolutely delicious. The seating is wonderful and open air, the only real complaint about here is parking, but it’s Hawaii so that’s an issue everywhere. If your looking for a moco loco breakfast or just a great meal in general, definitely give this place a try.
So this my first time eating here and I really wanted beef stew but today they don't serve it so I got the pork with gravey special and was very disappointed!!! The meat was dry and had been over cooked. The macaroni salad was good and the lemon bars and brownies was awesome. The service was great!!! I did expect more from this place being a popular local spot!
With a day-pass on TheBus, we knew we had to come out to the Rainbow Drive-in and compare our experience. We loved it! We found the portions more than ample, the food tasty like family cooking, and the staff right mix of brusque and …
The Rainbow Drive-In offers humongous portions for a low price! I came here extremely hungry and left satisfied. The service was friendly and fast, plus the food was top-notch! If I'm ever back in Waikiki I will definitely visit here again. I recommend coming here when you're hungry!
Fairly large portion, taste okay, a bit on the greasy side, definitely not craving for a 2nd round anytime soon. Not bad for lunch just under 10 bucks.
Asked my hostel for Hawaiian food recommendations, and for the newer fusion stuff that I'm used to eating this is where they told me to go. Got my favorite, BBQ beef/macaroni salad/rice, and it was fantastic. The giant passionfruit drink I got was amazing as well. I might try a more traditional Hawaiian food place if I ever come back, but I'm also going to hit up Rainbow Drive-In as well.
Mini plates here are still so filling! The meals here are super affordable compared to other restaurants in the Waikiki area. I came here a couple of times and saved half of my full size plates to eat for lunch the next day. There's also plenty of seating. Look for tables and benches all around. There were always seats available whether it was a weekend night or lunch time on the week day. Food is delicious btw. I ♥️ Slush Float!
Top 5 best places for breakfast and lunch. The loco Moco is to die for.
Food is fantastic people friendly prices low great local restaurant.
We went here because everyone recommends it and says it fantastic. We were very disappointed given the hype this place has. The food wasn't that great even though there always seems to be a line.
The essence of Hawaiian food - convenient, cheap, and filling. I ordered the mix plate and it was satisfying. While not having complicated flavours, it's a must visit place to really experience what the locals love!
I ordered the Loco Moco bowl without the egg due to allergies. The rice was dry and old, the gravy was bland, and the hamburger patty was rubbery. I was not impressed. Other members in our party enjoyed their fries, burgers, and mahi. Unfortunately with outside seating we encountered aggressive birds who are obviously used to being fed, and a gust of wind that peppered our food with sand and dirt.
