This Restaurant belongs to the category of Family restaurant.
Good breakfast place which is very rare on Kauai. No AC but lots of fans. Go early while it is cool. Not fancy but good variety of breakfast food.
Awesome service and great tasting food. The ladies are so friendly and happy to serve you. The food was amazing and good price! Went 6 times in 11 days. The breakfasts are really so wonderful.
I come here every time I go to Kauai. The servers are nice, the food is good and the environment is relaxing. Highly recommended.
Great place for an early breakfast if your passing through Kapaa.
Best food we have had so far on the island! Fast, friendly, great prices. It is delicious!
Have good shave ice.
Great! Our #1 place to eat when in Kauai
Disappointed in the Moco loco - the burger patty was dry and lacked flavor. Authentic feeling restaurant, friendly staff. They may have other better tasting things on the menu.
Amazing food. Portions were huge, and all was very reasonably priced. Definitely will return here again.
We came in a Monday morning. We were excited to get to know this place. My husband and I are brown people (you will know why I explained this further in the story) my husband is Hawaiian and I’m Mexican. We were up early and after driving around Kapaa we decided to have breakfast. First of all we came in and they didn’t even see we were there. We had to say hello to be have a seat. Second, when we ordered a Filipino lady was extremely rude, rushing, and didn’t even do eye contact with any of us. Third, it took over 25mn to get our food to the table. I ordered the Florentine eggs and it was extremely soggy and my husbands loco moco was dry and not enough sauce. We are not picky people with food but this wasn’t worth the price and service. Forgot to mentioned, my husband ordered orange juice and was never brought to the table. There was no butter, or honey to add it to my papaya. Fourth, as we were eating we saw the waitress made several (more than 4) mistakes with other orders. Also, as soon as a Caucasian couple came in they waited 5mn to get their food and the same Filipino lady was nice and friendly to them but not to us. Every time she returned to the kitchen she was yelling and complaining about her job in Tagalog, how we know this is because my husband knows Tagalog and is fluent. NOT A GOOD PLACE TO GO, NOT VERY SANITARY, and yes they were racist to us. We live in the 20Th CENTURY COME ON PEOPLE!!!! It doesn’t matter where you’re from as long as you have the money to pay for the service and deserve to be treated equally!
Warm welcoming staff. More than adequate menu and great food.
Great toasted vegetable sandwich with a side salad and house made papaya dressing .
Very good breakfast. Great service. Nice selection of breakfast including some unusual options.
A must for breakfast! One of the best meals we had on the island. We both like fish and they offer fish with breakfast. Clean, easy to park and the food is great!
The service and food were great. Come hungry. They have quite the menu with breakfast and lunch. The prices were average for the island but definetly worth it considering the amount and taste of the food.
Love the coconut ice cream! My husband and I were going to try other places but none had the coconut ice cream so we went back to this place. Sooo delicious!
Delicious food every time! Cute little restaurant. The decor inside is homey and comforting in a wonderful way. Makes you feel like you've been invited over to someone's home. Service is always pleasant. I will be bring family to this restaurant for breakfast when they come visit!
20 years going there ..excellent food..very nice people
Food was okay, but the restaurant was so hot and uncomfortable, could not enjoy your meal at all, would not visit again.
A lot of good food for the value.
Excellent family owned local spot. Breakfast was amazing and the service was perfect. A definite must visit.
Great place for a breakfast. Almost always crowded, but the wait is not long. Exceptionally good home made papaya jam!
DO NOT COME HERE. We came here because of its high ratings, but it was such a horrible experience. We waited our food for 45 minutes. Staff very disorganized. I ordered the florentine eggs. It was like eating soggy bread Mushroom was so bland and soggy. I dont have that high standards in food -- but I would rather go to macdonalds than this place. The whole place is not sanitary. Some people just got up from their tables and left. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!
Amazing food and such amazing friendly stuff! I'll absolutely be back. They even had a to go cup for my coffee! Thanks so much guys.
Try the Captain's breakfast with mahi mahi and fried rice, and don't forget to add a papaya!
We LOVED this restaurant. Of all the places we hit up, we revisited this spot most. Good breakfast options and they have shaved ice outside. Good family place.
Friendly staff, good prices, tasty food!
The best fried rice I have had since my ex mother in laws, 30 yrs ago.
Food always delicious. We go everytime we are on the island
Locally owned Homestyle prepared food and shaved ice you're comfortable downtown Kapa'a atmosphere.
Get fed like a local boy. Yum!
Where the locals go on the Island along with the Tip Top and Dani's in Lihue. All three were great when we visited Kuaui.
Had breakfast there 2 days in a row and loved it each day! If your looking for a great “local” place to eat look no further. Ono family Restaurant has stepped up the game on Moco Loco. This is island local vibe not a tourist trap locality. Treat it that way and you will not be disappointed! Thank you Kenny for your hospitality!
Had the breakfast burrito and the bacon tomato omelet. Good size portions and delicious.
If you look for a great breakfast with modrate prices. THIS should be your choice! The food is good and plenty. Coffee comes with a refill offer and its nice there.
Great box lunches. Allow plenty of time, lots of people will be there for work lunch.
The food was above average but the service was miserable. Not a smiling face in the place and we saw our waitress a total of 4 times in the nearly hour it took us to get fed.
So the food here is good and the service is also very good. The one thing that is hard is this restaurant needs a thorough cleaning and remodel. It’s old, tired and dirty. But...the food is good. So you make the call.
Great service and great food!
Awesome family restaurant! Feels like someone's grandma is in the kitchen! I ate spam for the first time here! Everything was yummy, coffee was good, service was quick and friendly, and wait wasn't too bad. Really enjoyed our meal, especially the banana macadamia pancakes!
Rude staff- came in at 1:30 pm. Restaurant websute lists 2 pm as the closing time. Woman at the counter counting her tips did not even look up but mumbles "no we are closed" then pointed somewhere when we said we asked about the website (Google error). Totally fine to be closed but a least be hospital. Rude.
Loved it! Sadly I did not take pictures of this meal. I highly recommend eating "Portuguese". It like kielbasa but better. Has a touch of a kick. I absolutely loved it.
Amazing restaurant.
Good service, great food! One of the better breakfast spots on the east shore.
Very good food and excellent service & prices.
Delicious home cooked food. Wait staff is also very friendly
Staff wasn't really friendly. Never asked us if we needed anything other then when she took our order. There was a chicken in the kitchen. Good old fashioned food. We asked about specials and the lady juat pointed at a board onthe other side of the room.
Food was good & came out quickly, but the service here is awful! Seemed like we were an inconvenience both times we went. Never again!
Ono Family Restaurant was delicious. It was the comfort food we were looking for on Kauai. Loco moco was delicious according to my son. I tried the Ono#1 with Portuguese sausage. Fried rice was awesome. My other son got the Lindsay's special with spam. Each of us left with full bellies and clean plates. It was a nice family style restaurant. You may have to wait a bit it your timing is off since the place is small. We were lucky and got a table in 5min. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Kauai.
Kind of small but made up for it with very nice people
Good food decent price
I enjoyed having breakfast @Ono Family Restaurant. The Portuguese sausage was awesome.
Great home cooking food Worth another visit
An army of aunties are there to make sure you are fed well.
Great atmosphere, food, and family!
Breakfast was delicious!! Coffee was delicious!! Prices were delicious!! Portions were delicious!! No wait for a table when we arrived. Can't wait to have another breakfast here!!
Good food! Although, the fryer was down when we went and there was no sign posted at the door. So it was after we had been sitting for about 20 minutes and everyone had decided what they wanted when they told us. It would have been nice to know a little earlier. But other wise, what we got was good and the staff was so friendly!
Best pancakes we have ever had!
Good food, Good people!
Super nice people and great breakfast
This place was recommended by a local. It is a small Mom and Pop place with funky decor food was awesome. Service was friendly. Try the Pancakes with banana, Coconut and macadamia in the batter and on top Mmmmmmm!
One of my favorite places to have breakfast! Great homemade food and great service with a smile!
Great food at a great price. Got the smoked chicken omelette with fried rice. Excellent! Kenny (the owner?) was great to talk to and very helpful on things to do. Gave us his personal cell number and told us to call him if we needed any help while on the island. Way above and beyond , a great guy and family restaurant.
We always try to support the local businesses. We have ate there before on previous visits.. the shave ice is the reason for the star. They were busy. Waited 1/2 hour outside for a table. Waited 1/2 hour to be waited on after sitting down. Waited 20 to 25 min to get food. Had to ask for coffee after we got our breakfast that we had ordered.. the hash browns were burned. The creamer was previously used and was empty. The salt and pepper were sticky from syrup. The waitress was non verbal and very tired, it seemed. The young man at the cash register tried to help her and was nice. There were flies. Not going back, sadly
Good breakfast but prices are high, service was very slow and the place has no A/C, it was hot and humid inside while we were trying to enjoy our breakfast. Get some A/C people, at least a few mini splits or something. Your place was very uncomfortable and the restrooms are outside
I love this place. It's one of the places my parents started to go to for breakfast when it was just the two of them. They took me here when I was an adult. Good solid food. 1/2 size florentine which was perfect!
The best laid back place on the north side of the island to have breakfast and friendly people.
'Ono' in Hawaiian means good, or very good. And the name fits! Strawberry pancakes and french toast, best bacon, great fresh fruit bowls, Portuguese sausage, hash brown, fresh papaya jam, etc. Good food, wonderful wait staff. When my girlfriend and I visit the Islands, we eat here every day. When my husband and I visit, we eat here at least 3x per week. It's family to us now.
The best breakfast on the island. Cute place with super friendly people and amazing food. Fair prices and great portions. Dont hesitate, you wont regret coming here!
Low service and the place doesn't seem clean. Didn't enjoy.
Very friendly and helpful staff highly recommend fresh ingredients will come back again
It was horrible be used in grated cheese for a grilled cheese sandwich and didn't hardly even toast the bread
Great breakfast place, bananna, coconut macadamia nuts pancakes were fantastic. Only strange thing is we ordered eggs over hard and instead of popping the yoke they over cooked the egg to get the hard yoke.
Service was rude. Became agitated when asked questions about the menu. Should have left. Owner at checkout also brushed off a question I had and didn't answer. Not a good example of an Aloha experience.
Best breakfast on the island great service fast usually
The most wonderfully delicious food in town!
It’s ok. Service is a little subpar but it might fit for a family restaurant. Food is good and cheap
We found Ono during our first trip to Kauai. Just went back again five years later. Great breakfast!
Food was delicious!! Great place for brunch! Service was slow but I understand she is an elder waitress. Cute antiquy vibe! Definitely will return in the future!
Loved it. If you are a food snob, this place isn't for you. But if you love great food, a nd enjoy humble surroundings, great service and friendly service this is the best breakfast. I love to cook and I loved it. We ate here almost everyday of our vacation.
Delicious coffee, eggs, corn beef hash and pancakes. Friendly staff!
Yum yum yum! Stopped here for some breakfast and this place didn't disappoint. I got the Tropical Stack (pancakes) and I think I'm going to have dreams about them! So fluffy and full of flavor. Great atmosphere and service. Highly recommend!
Good food and fast service. Coconut syrup is a must try.
Great place for breakfast! Big menu. Good service.
Great place to eat! So good we came here several times on our vacation. Lots of variety, traditional choices as well as some with an Asian flair. I loved their omelettes, their pancakes, and the local fruit sides. Prices are reasonable. Highly recommend!
Wonderful small family business with excellent food and attentive service. We are there 4 out of 5 mornings we spent there. Miss them already.
This is the place for breakfast. You like pancakes, waffles, omelettes, bacon, sausage, hash browns, rice, toast an all American breakfast delight awaits you then. I love breakfast and I love this place! Hash browns are golden crispy perfectly prepared. My omelette was so fluffy, I thought it came in contact with Botox. Spinach was colorfully paired with parmesan cheese for a earthy green robust flavour. It's all about the food here. Friendly service. Simple rustic dinning room. Nothing outshines the food. No fancy decor or uniforms to upstage the food. I can't wait till my next visit. Treat yourself, you deserve it!
A great place for breakfast and my boyfriend was particularly impressed by the Chinese sausage that he hasn't had since he was a kid growing up in Thailand! The service was phenomenal. Hit the spot for a diner-style breakfast (1 egg + hashbrowns + toast + bacon for about $8)
The family who owns this restaurant is so friendly. Definitely worth a visit if you want some low key breakfast food.
Great service, delicious food! Very busy, and has a small parking lot, so get there early or find a spot along the street.
Staff was unfriendly, the pork was not very flavorful and the gravy was disgusting. The jam was good however overall felt unwelcomed and had much better food elsewhere.
Always good and fast! Loco Moco and Banana
A quaint and lovely local joint with simple, delicious offerings and friendly faces! I had the Tropical shorty (pancakes with banana, coconut, and macadamia nuts) and my husband had fried rice with eggs and Portuguese sausage. Delicious! We loved it here!
Great hometown family restaurant
Rec from our AirBnB owner in nearby Wailua. Followed his rec to get the bacon avocado omelette and fried rice. Omelette was good. Rice was just ok. My wife liked it fine though. She ordered the open face breakfast sandwich, which we both thought was better. Basic diner/cafe setting.
Great local fare and atmosphere. Went to several different places in Kapaa for breakfast and this was our favorite. Try the fried rice and Portuguese sausage.
Hands down my favorite place in Kauai! If you want to know what the Aloha spirit is all about this place is a must. We are a family of 5 and stopped in here for breakfast. Not only was the food, prices and service amazing, the owner himself pulled up a chair and talked to us for about 25 minutes. He got to know each of us, told us a bit about himself and all the cool local stuff going on. He asked my son and daughter if they liked surfing and offered to bring up some surf boards from his house to the restaurant for them to use free of charge. He said this is what the Aloha spirit is all about. Later that week we went to a 5K run along the beach only to find that Ono's restaurant's owner was one of the main people organizing it and putting it on. This man is a Legend, he is out to make the world a better place by living the true meaning of Aloha for all the world to see!
Delicious breakfast and wonderful staff.
Very good breakfast. Best service I've had in years anywhere!!!
Local diner-style, coffee was awesome
The service was excellent (the wait staff were very attentive), but the quality of the breakfast was lacking. The metal cap on our salt shaker was rusty & completely plugged up. Probably won't be returning.
A great spot to grab breakfast! Both traditional and standard options.
Yummy comfort food...don't expect a fancy place. Would go back!
Awesome food great service
Breakfast for the 4 of us. Nice low key and rustic. Regular breakfast menu Pancakes, eggs benedict, French toast. All filling and satisfying with efficient service.
Good sized portions (enough to share if needed). Seemed to have lower prices than other places that I've been to on this island. Shared an omelette, hash browns, and the tropical pancakes. The pancakescome with a coconut sauce, that was really good, but the hash browns were a little dry but nothing that ketchup couldn't fix.
Excellent breakfast. The eggs were fresh and over easy. Good coffee and toast . I am coming back!
Food ok. prices are good, service good.
The tropical pancakes were the best pancakes I’ve ever had! Also their special ono coffee was amazing. Highly recommend. Price was great, too.
Great food and reasonable prices
It was good real friendly people
Visited 3/12 and 3/14/2019. Prices are reasonable, food is decent. Service is a little slow. Rice seemed a little under-cooked both times we went. Parking is kind of a pain. It was good enough that we went twice though!
Ate here for breakfast three times. It’s a small local cafe and the food is awesome. Don’t be in a rush and you will love it! Food quality is top notch. Meats have a ton of flavour. I loved it here. If you love a small town cafe and are not in a rush, I would pick this place every time. I recommend the Banana pancakes and the Breakfast Burrito.
Great family restaurant
Food was great service waa a little slow but who cares im on vacation
We enjoyed this place 3 years ago when we were in Kauai so we made a point to visit it again when we were back there this year. The ladies who run the place are really nice and I love the pineapple cutout chairs at the tables. Good food - I just wish they served breakfast until closing time (which is 1:30 pm) instead of only serving it until 11 am.
Delicious breakfast at efficient price.
Traditional Hawaiian comfort food. Very good
For breakfast and lunch Great pancakes. Loco moco
Amazing food. Great service from owner. Easy location to get to.
This place is so good! The 1st time here I had the eggs, fried rice and Portugese sausage which was my favorite. The 2nd time we went I tried the tropical pancakes! The pancakes were fresh and the coconut syrup had just enough sweetness to it. We can't wait to come back to eat here again!
Been coming here for many years. Family / staff is fantastic & friendly. Food is great Breakfast fare. My wife had Ono Benedict & it was great, as well as lots of fish / dinner portion. Not a fancy place just clean relaxing breakfast place in Kapaa.
My kind of place to eat, small, cozy and damn good food served by nice people. If your in a hurry, this is not for you, and if your picky and hard to please, don't ruin it for the rest of us.
Breakfast here was good! I think we did the Ono #2 with Portuguese sausage (SO good) and fried rice, plus two banana pancakes and a side of hash browns. The pancakes weren't bad, but I was a little disappointed - they just weren't anything special. One other note - my wife and I both thought the orange juice tasted weird, but can't figure out why. We wished we had gotten grapefruit or something instead.
We are there towards end of our trip. Wish we would have found it sooner. Very good food. Reasonable prices. We were checked on a dozen times. When we return to Kauai, will be our first meal stop.
I had the pancakes with some kind of coconut jelly.. Yummy! The staff is really friendly and service is quick.
Lunch sucked I got the suzi q (thin sliced teriyaki burger) meat was not flavorful nor tender nor thin. Teriyaki was sub par. Wife got vegi omelette and best thing on the plate was the plain rice. Not recommended sorry guys.
I have eaten there twice as I visited Kauai. It is wonderful local place. Food is fantastic, home, comforting, affordable price , did I say local! ( huge portions). Love it and hope to come back.
Delicious food! And very friendly staff. We are here 4 times during our stay. Thanks Norma!
Service was friendly and personable, food is great, overall has a comfy family feel.
Just passed and tried. Very disappointed. Price is not cheap, food is bad
It's like eating in my auntie's kitchen! Biggest omelette of my life. Fried rice is fantastic. Service is wonderful and everyone is so friendly. I always come here when I go to Kauai just for the Ohana feel
Decent enough breakfast but no coffee offered!! Customer Service could improve
Very nice and helpful first ever cocconut syrup pancakes! Thanks so much!
Not at all interested in service. Waited for all locals to get their food before our order came out. Had to ask waitress for the soup that was part of the meal. And the place was not clean. Food was mediocre.
Awesome service and awesome food. Friendly service and big portions. Highly recommend the Kyra Moco Loco.
We ate breakfast here before getting on our flight. The owners are friendly and nice. Our server was very impatient and rude. She turned on a loud fan behind us before taking our orders which was blowing the little shutters on the windows above us open and closed (kind of noisy and annoying). She also glared at us while taking our orders and it was hard to hear her over the fan. The restaurant could use a little updating (our table had some sort of waterproof vinyl attached to the top that had a huge wrinkle in it, making it kind of weird to set stuff on). The food was basic and nothing great. Due to the server alone, I wouldn't come back if I ever come back to Kauai in the future.
Marvelous food! Excellent customer care, I ate there 4 times, great breakfast & marvelous shave ice!
Simple and casual and yummy! Of all the Loco Moco plates I'd had between Oahu and Kauai, Ono Family Restaurant had the best one!
Almost as soon as we arrived a gentleman gave our 4yr old a plate of sliced bananas. Really cool to kind of calm the beast before she tuned up. Wish I could've eaten there more than once. Good portions and the menu had enough "normal" breakfast options along with some stuff you wouldn't find on the mainland. I had the spinach and mushroom omelet, it eased loaded
Great coffee. I usually add cream. Not this coffee. I ordered the Hash breakfast with poached eggs. I requested scrambled So good. The service was excellent The’re super busy on Sunday’s mornings. Be patient, it’s worth the wait.
Wow!!! Loco Moco with the gravy and a side of papaya and pineapple jam, lick your fingers good. Cute little family restaurant that looks like your Asian grandmas house. I like the island vibe this little restaurant gives off. Now I just need to come back for the Shave Ice for lunch.
Good burgers and ice cream. It's a little easy to miss as you head down the road - but parking is easy once you spot it. Lots of chickens running around with their babies when we were there. :) So cute to watch them while you eat.
Delicious food!!! Love the loco moco!!!
Food good, not very friendly like...
Nice family owned place with good food at fair prices and service with aloha
Awesome food and very friendly service!!
