This was a special evening at a special venue. We had an amazing dinner set atop the Hawaiian waves brushing the Waikiki shore. The Halekulani is special to begin with. Place a French restaurant on top of the shore with windows looking out onto the beach and you have the set up for an AMAZING restaurant. To start it off, the service was on par with THREE STAR MICHELIN restaurants. Our waiter (Chuck?) was a local who had been there for years and was the best. No lack of timing in this place where each dish is served impeccably timed after the next. The food is on par with the best restaurants in the world. Why they have not been lauded elsewhere is beyond me. We had an amazing evening and would recommend the experience to anyone else traveling in the area. They bring true high class standards to the islands while still making you feel like your on island time (without sacrificing the wait)!

La Mer at Halekulani is one of the most romantic, fine dining experiences I’ve ever had. The staff is professional, friendly, considerate of every detail and well informed of the menu. I felt taken care of from start to finish. I chose the 3-course menu, which was more than enough for me. The combination of colours and flavours with each dish were incredible. We had a 5:30pm reservation and were sat near the open terrace, overlooking the ocean with a view of Diamond Head from behind. Keep in mind, there is a dress code. Gentlemen need to bring a suit jacket, although they are not required to wear it (my boyfriend didn’t have one, but the restaurant supplied one to drape over his chair). Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply want to spoil yourself, you must try La Mer. A few of the items we ordered pictured with this review: (1) Mango and Garden Vegetable Ratatouille King Crab, and Mango Vinaigrette; (2) Chilean Sea Sass, Baby Leeks and Caviar, Maltaise Mousseline Sauce; (3) Filet of Beef (medium rare), Foie Gras, Truffle Mousseline, Pommes Soufflés, Sauce Périgueux; and (4) Coconut Mousse with Grapefruit, Macadamia Nut Croquant and Lychee.

It is expensive, but honestly one of the best meals I have EVER had. Also, working to plan the event from the mainland via email was flawless and so easy - they were more than helpful with all my questions, thoughts, etc! It was great!!!! The private room we booked was perfect. I brought name agate slices for name plates, as well as my own flowers. Parking is available at the Halekulani wether you are staying there or if you park across the street in the 8 story garage. La Mer is located on the second floor facing the water. The restaurant has great ambience, very rich and comforting feel. Definition of “paying for service” the staff was incredible. The rest of the tasting course had more sauce and puree than food. The portions are tiny and under seasoned. I know Orchids and House Without Key is wonderful, so I'll go back to them. Service is very nice but my husband felt the wines were really marked up.

hawaii's most elegant restaurant. you feel like you are the only guest in the restaurant because the service is so attentive. the food is wonderful -- especially the seafood choices -- and the setting is lovely. lots of wines to choose from and wonderful desserts. you pay a price for this indulgence, but it should happen in your life at least occasionally if you care about restaurants.

Review is for the L’Aperitif bar only. As a cocktail aficionado this spot had been on my list for quite a while. The atmosphere - old school Hawaii meets Paris was great and service excellent. The drink I had was also incredible, but it should be at a princely $24. Recommend saving the money and enjoying equally good $16-$14 cocktails downstairs at Lewers Lounge or on the lanai.

I have been going to few French restaurants in Hawaii, and I would say this is one of the better ones. Service is as normal and staffs are very friendly. Price and quality are very balanced. The only awkwardness is it wills like it is it feels like high end Chinese restaurant... but that’s an other story. Do try and must try.

My tasting course with wine pairing was phenomenal. The sommelier is an asset to the chef. The sound of waves crashing as I enjoyed my last fancy dinner out in Hawaii was irreplaceable. The staff was welcoming and attentive so that if I even turned my head, someone was there to assist me. I couldn't think of a better way to go out with a quiet and classy bang!

Everyone should experience La Mer's Menu Dégustation once in their lifetime. Chef delivers artful presentations which somehow manage to taste even more remarkable than they look, with each of the seven courses delighting and surprising the taste buds. The service was equally flawless, balancing attentiveness and classiness with kindness and smiles, making us feel that the night was ultra special and the entire restaurant was ours. Lastly, the views from the dining room into the aquamarine Pacific Ocean aid in relaxation while adding to the wonder of the complete dining experience La Mer achieves from the moment you walk in until the moment you depart. Bravo, five stars.
