What's not to love about Down The Hatch?! The live musicians, the friendly bartenders, the delicious food, and THE HAPPY HOUR!! We went one night before a dinner cruise out of Lahaina Bay fort drinks and an appetizer and had to go back before we left to try more of the menu! I recommend the appetizer sampler and the lava flow!!

Wonderful place in the middle of downtown. There is live entertainment and a really good vibe. Come during happy hour (2-6pm) if you want to save money! It's actually the longest happy hour on Maui, don't ask me how I know lol.

The most incredible food and it was nice to have such a quality meal without having to be in a restaurant setting with a waiter. We are traveling with children so this was a perfect environment. We had the lava shrimp which reminded me of the shrimp at Nobu, spicy Caesar and added the catch of the day and the macadamia crusted mahi. My kids got amazing kids meals too. I don’t know how to pick a favorite- everything was excellent. Going to go back before we head home!

I have never seen so many cockroaches together and I live in New York City. It was disgusting and scary, as soon as they brought my food around 10 cockroaches came along with it. I DO NOT recommend this place unless you are bug’s Steve Irwin. Very frighting experience

The avocado berry toast had both sweet and savory with fresh berry jam and it was not too sweet but perfect. I was recently in Hawaii and one of the many lovely places me and my husband tried was down the hatch. We were there for breakfast and everything we ordered was really yummy. Fried chicken Benny, avocado berry toast and the awesome banana bread mini toast. All of them looked and tasted superb.

Shrimp tacos and mermaid fries knocked it out of the park. Fish tacos were good as well, but there was just something about the sauce on the shrimp tacos. The mermaid fries deserve their own review. The calamari was great as well. It's the steak version cut into strips and lightly breaded with a mixed sauce I'd never be drunk enough to combine. Sweet Thai chili sauce and tartar. Sounds daft, but works really well together. Atmosphere definitely a more upbeat louder style. They do take out too... That was our second experience with them. This will be an always hit place anytime we're on the isle...

Great seafood, fried fish, fish tacos, pork. Outdoor lively bar atmosphere...order at the counter. Cramped place but worth the visit. Kids get free shaved ice with kids meals. Try the mixed plate appetizer. And the adult shaved ice at their place next door.

The vibe is unique. There's a bar in the center of the space and often there is live music. It's open air. You order at a counter and they bring the food out later. It's a bit of a confusing set up, but they're patient and explain what to do pretty clearly. The food is really nice here. The lobster and crab grilled cheese is something you must eat. The calamari was the best I've ever had. I really wanted to give this a five star, but some service mistakes keep it at four. When we ordered, they brought out the calamari after the entrees even though they asked if we wanted it first and I said yes. And they brought out my wife's food at least 10-15 minutes after everyone else's. They apologized, but did nothing else to make it right. But the tasty food made it worth it.

It was quite busy when we decided to stop for a bite. After ordering our food there were no free tables so we ended up sitting at the bar. Watching the bartenders create some amazing looking drinks I decided to have a Mai Tai. Jenna made me the most amazing Mai Tai I had on the island yet, and I have tried them at most of the restaurants we ate at during our two week vacation. My husband then decided to try a Lava Flow and again was not disappointed, it was delicious. The food here was also amazing. I had the fish tacos and my husband had the chicken and waffles and both were delicious! We’ll be back here during our next visit.

We had the DTH fish plate and the fish tacos (crispy) and a pair of Piña Coladas. Evening came out fast and fantastic. Get there early. We arrived at about 6:30pm on a Friday night and there wasn't much wait. By the time we left (after having an "adult shaved ice"), the line was up the stairs and onto the sidewalk.

Down the Hatch was a good place to eat with very pleasant scenery. This included koi fish swimming in a stream. The strawberry salad I got was good, but the amount of dressing given was small. You order your food at the front counter and then eat it at a table, so you don't necessarily have to leave a tip. Overall, this is a good restaurant in the Lahaina area and it's worth a shot if you pass by. 5 stars.

We had Monkey Pod during the day, so we decided to come here to have a change in scenery and food. We are very happy we decided to come here instead. Excellent food and very nice people working here. They got a nice bar, which just like the dining area, you need to order first. For the food, the staff will bring it to you. I felt their sampler dish was exquisite (calamari and quesadilla) and other small plates. I really enjoyed their Ahi tuna, which is special to Maui/ Hawaii. Restaurant is in the middle of a mall, open area, so very fun and exciting ambiance. Also a shaved ice place you can go when done eating here. Highly recommend and would be top 5 in Maui for me!

Perhaps an unconventional experience for most but I think it is worth it. You order at a counter and a server brings you the food, rather quickly. You can get it togo too if seating is limiting. Food was excellent and well priced for the area. Happy hour 2-6. Drinks were tasty. Calamari and shrimp were fried perfectly. I ordered then got my drinks at the bar separately.

Another great day - barely missed sunset - Parking spots are limited. Decent red ale to start off a nice dinner - appetizers from another Triple D Joint. Coconut shrimp & roasted Brussels sprouts. Funky open style restaurant with character.

We saw this place highly recommended on Google reviews so we decided to try it out on a Friday night. It was busy but we still found a table. The grilled cheese as featured by Guy Fieri did not disappoint. It was full of cheese, plenty of lump lobster and crab on thick toast. We also tried the southern fried chicken sandwich and lava shrimp. The food was outstanding. We highly recommend this place if you are staying I. Lahaina.

To start. The food is good. Really is. DO NOT go if you are on a time crunch. They operate on Hawaii time. Takes a while to get food. It is also not good for large parties. Not a whole lot of seating during prime time. I would recommend to my friends.

Had a splendid experience here while visiting Lahaina. Had both the lava lava shrimp and mermaid fries as a snack while walking around town. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and very fresh and then served in a metal martini glass. The mermaid fries were also amazing and very tasty. The fries were crispy and the combination of the sauce, cheese and bacon on top put it over the top. The lava flow drink was also a perfect pairing with our pre dinner snack and was refreshing with the summer heat.

This place was so good!! Fast service, fun location on Front Street. It's tucked under some other stores. The lava lava shrimp tacos were fantastic and fresh. Prices aren't bad for Maui, between 15-$20 for most items. Pina colada was $10. Overall, very good and would return again!

Perfectly average food with the benefit that it is relatively inexpensive, given the area. I had the fried rice breakfast and there just wasn’t a ton of nuanced flavor at all - just hit everything on full throttle. Also, service is pretty much non-existent. You order at the counter then go sit down. Once your food is delivered, that’s the extent of your interaction. No checking to make sure everything was okay. No getting drinks. Nothing.

Sunday for breakfast/brunch was a bustling and cracking experience. Live music, drinks flowing, and awesome food. $10 pitchers of fruity alcoholic beverages or tropical mimosas. It is a very laid-back experience so laid-back there was a man walking around with a dog. The food is awesome and so worth it. The breakfast nachos are a go to staple. The French toast with awesome, there's a dollop of ice cream on top. The chicken and waffles were also very delicious though the chicken could have been a tad more flavorful. All-in-all and awesome experience and can't wait to go back to try their lunch and dinner special.

Pork quesadilla was delicious and the outdoor/waterfall/live music vibe is super cool. The reason I knocked a star off is because nobody serves you. You order your food and drink at a counter and once its brought to you, you're on your own. Very hard to beat the order line to ask for something simple or to squeeze between people sitting at the bar to order drinks. I'd come back but it's definitely a little odd.

My friends and I went recently. I had the lobster and crab grilled cheese & my friends had the macadamia crusted mahi mahi and the chicken and waffles. All 3 were very good. The sauce on the sandwich was not very spicy. It had a good kick but it didn't overwhelm my taste buds. Word of advice-do NOT go too late the afternoon. It was the end of the lunch rush so they were busy & it was hot. By the time we got our food we had drank so much water and we were so sweaty I wondered if we would be able to enjoy our food. We did but wow it was hot.

It's true. The food is uniquely awesome and fresh. It is like a food court where you order and pay then they bring food to your table but seating can be limited but worth it. Washroom is clean. You will not be disappointed whether you have fish or not. Bar is right there with big screen TVs.

AMAZING FOOD - great spot for lunch or happy hour! We grabbed a late lunch here after a long morning of ziplining. Our guide made the recommendation as one of his favorite low-key local spots. My fiancé got the famous Lobster & Crab Stuffed Grilled Cheese - he would like to report that it more than lives up to the hype! I ordered the Summer Strawberry Spinach Salad with fresh Ahi Tuna & avocado added. It was so DELICIOUS - one the of the best salads I’ve ever had! Overall, Down the Hatch had such a cool, laidback vibe with excellent food to match. The prices weren’t too bad either! Will definitely be back on our next trip to Maui!

Pretty tasty, we had a coupon for free firecracker shrimp with purchase of entree. They were good, a little light on sauce. Mermaid fries with no green onions. Shoestring fries with bacon, cheese sauce, firecracker sauce, & ranch. Hefty portion of fries & very good. Main course we shared a surf & turf burger which had two 4oz patties with firecracker shrimp in it. Something a little different & fun to try.

Sat at the bar and couldn't have had a better experience. Service was top notch, bartender was on it and friendly. We were there for a late breakfast, wife had the breakfast nachos and I got chicken and waffles. I'll just say anything with their gravy is likely good. $10 for a whole carafe of mimosa(POG) and 2 other options. You can't go wrong.

Sat at the bar, and had one of the best meals on Maui so far on our trip! The coconut shrimp is so worth the money. I never eat fish, but upon trying my husband's fish and fries, I wanted to order a plate for myself. I had the sweet potato tacos and finished everything. We were so pleased with our visit. The atmosphere is open and so cool. Definitely grab a shave ice on your way out!

Wanted to try this place but didn’t get the chance to since I was still full. I asked one of the servers about the coupon I got and server had quite the condescending tone. Coupon said: Get one breakfast entree and 50% for the other OR Get one entree and get free lava lava shrimp Since I planned to try it the next morning, I went to ask if I can get a breakfast “entree” and get the lava lava shrimp. The waiter was pointing out that it was an “OR” which I really didn’t understand because it was ridiculous. The menu clearly says breakfast “entree.” So breakfast “entree” is not an “entree”? Didn’t bother arguing with an idiot. They shouldn’t even offer a coupon that’s open for subjective interpretation by their staff. I was even willing to go through the effort of going back that day (totally outside of my plans), drive to that busy place, find a parking spot, and pay for parking just to try the food and hopefully have a pleasant experience. What a turn off! I went to Da Kitchen the following day and had a wonderful experience. Wonderful staff and food.

Great outdoor seating to compliment the delicious food. Located along Front St across from the Banyan Park, DTH is a convenient place to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Your order first then grab a seat. Food comes fast even when crowded. Definitely try the lobster and crab grilled cheese as featured on Triple D...the flavor is amazing, and your get large chunks of lobster meat. If you want an appetizer, try the coconut shrimp. It comes with 6 fried shrimps, with a bed of cabbage and a mango salsa that is sweet and a tad bit spicy. Your receipt gives you 15% off for their shaved ice store located in the restaurant. It's a delicious treat after your flavorful meal.

The food was delicious but a bit spicy which they could've informed us as not everyone in our group could handle spicy. Seating was confusing and could be better, tables were crooked and we were afraid our food and drink would topple. We could not taste any liquor in the drinks and when we inquired about more liquor they wanted to charge us more to add or fix the drinks. To sum it up. Good food, bad drinks, soso ambiance.

Tip - go sit at the bar and order food there. You can skip the line and have a drink while you’re at it. I would have rated this place more stars if they had more vegan/vegetarian options. Appreciated that they had sweet potato tacos (vegetarian made vegan by taking off dairy) but they were not very well done. Potato was undercooked and lacking flavor. Could use a re-imagination of the dish.

We've never tried Down the Hatch so we thought we'd give it a try. Even without an ocean view it's everything you'd want in a restaurant in the Tourist Mecca of Maui.

Came for lunch and it was great. The burger was delicious and there was a guy playing ukulele in the corner. The music was great for the atmosphere and it really made the experience better. If i could give more than 5 stars i would. This place is amazing. The food is one of the best food i’ve ever tasted it’s extremely delicious and fresh. I ordered the lava lava shrimp, grilled cheese lobster sandwich and the fish tacos. Each dish is better than the next. Would highly recommend this place and am definitely coming here again. This is a must try in Maui.

Food was okay. You order your food and seat yourself. The problem is there is only a limited amount of tables and it quickly becomes archaic between groups for seats. Food was done and ready before we even had a spot to eat at. They plopped us (helped us b/c we had been given our food with still nowhere to sit) in a high table in the middle of a walkway. No seats, then brought us seats too low. The organization of the place is a joke. Went during happy hour around 5 p.m. If you are going for drinks it may be okay but if you want to get both drinks and food you might want to plan around the time of day. Definitely wouldn't bring a large group (5+) here. The experience was extremely tainted right from the start when you come down the stairs and realize the system in place for service.

This place is great! I would reccomend the Maui Sour for those who like whiskey but intend to enjoy the tropical ambiance. Also can't go wrong with the lava lava shrimp! Totes amazeballs!

This place is in a perfect location in the heart of front street in Lahaina. The food is terrific from the lobster and crab grilled cheese to the live music to enjoy with a cold beer. But I have to be honest, the service was on BIG TIME island time. We were there for lunch almost 2 hours on a Monday and forget about Saturday! If you can be patient, it’s well worth it but there are plenty of other spots around you can get good grinds without having to spend the day there.

Delicious and fun! We went during happy hour, which meant discounts on appetizers, drinks, and adult shave ice. The Lava Lava Shrimp are amazing and keep me coming back. Fish tacos and coconut shrimp were fabulous, and our kids were happy with their meals, which included a small shave ice. After our dinner we enjoyed an adult shave ice. Yum! Fun atmosphere but it was very hot since it's down in a hole are you don't get any breeze going through. Also a bit hard to find seating for larger groups.

Save on Maui

First time after new ownership took a place, a food quality improved very much, the fact you have walk to the counter for every order is not really so exciting. Saturday vocalist with guitar wasn't really our cup of tea, but thanks to food, we like the experience and definitely come over again for a quick lunch.

Busy place in the center of a small mall on Front Street. Sampler platter was excellent as were the brussel sprouts. The crab and lobster grilled cheese was honestly a just ok for us. Wasn't as good as we had set our expectations I suppose. A good option for food but expect to wait a bit if its busy.

Great food! Love that the kids meal comes with a token for a shaved ice. It's hot down there but there's a good amount of shade. The gal at the counter misheard our order and one of our meals was left off the tab, but I didn't notice until after the other food was brought out. The waitress bringing our food out was incredible and managed to get the other meal ordered and brought out real quick. Food was good and excellent service. Would definitely come back.

Food at Down the Hatch was good for the price. We we lucky to get a seat, since seating is at a premium especially in the evening. The one star rating is due to the Roaches! I saw at least 15-20 (no lie) around our table. So many that the lady at the table next to me and I had to put our feet up on the seat! This made the whole experience a bust because you begin to wonder about roaches in the food prep area. This issue needs to be addressed.

This was a nice place to stop in for drinks and food. There was live entertainment which was fun. They had a shrimp appetizer that was absolutely delicious. Try to get a travel booklet because they have coupons in the back for Down the Hatch, which would include a free appetizer with an entree purchase.

Loved this place! What a wonderful, laidback vibe. Sat at the bar where we met and had a great time with the locals. Menu has some delicious selections that are priced reasonably. We love the grilled cheese lobster and crab sandwich served with some of the best fries I've eaten. The shrimp is great too. This is a popular place, so get there early. Will be returning. Also the bartender was great.

This is a great open air venue downstairs from the street level. The bar was packed and the atmosphere is lively and fun. A live musician entertained everyone, which wasn’t overbearingly loud. I hate when venues have the music so loud that you can’t hear conversation but this level of music was perfect! Clientele was varied, some older people enjoying a drink, families enjoying a meal and locals just kicking back. We tried the fish tacos, while my kids enjoyed burgers and hot dogs. You also get tokens for shaved ice which is next door, my kids loved this. The place was full on my visit but didn’t feel too crowded. Food was quick and our servers were nice. Toilets are located around the shops, you have to walk and climb stairs to find them. I highly recommend Down the Hatch to anyone! Enjoy!

Garbage. Worst meal I had in Maui. It was the only place open late. Food quality was inedible, waiting long for takeout, should just serve alcohol & not food. Kitchen door was open so you can see inside, looked filthy. I don't know why this place got good reviews. Positives: free water, 90s/2000s throwback music, friendly staff, open late. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Great drinks and food! Recommend going to the bar to order instead of waiting in the line with everyone! Sometimes hard to find a seat, but wait staff is quick to clear the table. Apps are amazing! All of them! Definitely try the Lava Lava Shrimp and Seared Ahi Bruschetta.
