If possible I would give this place 4.5 stars. Our waitress was fantastic & the food was fabulous. Kids were served first, which held the hungry munchkins at bay. Highly recommend for families or a nice date night.

This is a wonderful restaurant. The service was great, they had largenwine selection with pairing options, and most important the food was fantastic. I had their special. Fresh perfectly cooked fish, tiny pork calzones coleslaw all beautifully presented with sauce. Worth every penny!

The pizza is phenomenal. We had a large classico, and 2 pizzetes- fig & prosciutto, and the other was cold water crab. Oh my, this was some of the best pizza I've had in my entire life - topping even some of Italy's pizza! Go there, it's worth every penny.

One of my favorite places to dine. You'll definitely receive higher-end service. Dining options are plentiful, so you will always find something delicious... I haven't had anything on the menu that is NOT good. Their beer selection is awesome, along with wines and mixed drinks. Your only problem here is that you won't be able to make up your mind when ordering, so you'll have no choice but to return another day. Aloha

There aren’t many Italian restaurants in Hawaii and I’m beginning to think, Hawaiian cuisine is the way to go. We had the rosemary Gorgonzola pizzette, Santa Fe chicken pasta with a cup of the broccoli cheese soup. The food wasn’t bad at all but it felt a little bit like an Olive Garden or Applebee’s. The pasta wasn’t very flavorful and the pizzette was slightly soggy. However the waiter service was superb, fast and very knowledgeable when asked any questions.

Good location by the shopping area along the waterfront. Good fresh warm bread with homemade butter. The salmon pizzette is really good and good portion size too. Affordable price. You can sit at the bar if you choose not to wait, the line can by long. Reservation is recommended pass 6pm. Friendly waitress. Glad we ate there. Definitely go back again if we are staying in town.

Always amazing here! I've never had anything I don't like here! Excellent flavored martinis, and desserts! Try their Creme Brulee & lilikoi cheesecake! Also...personal faves are Smoked Salmon pizza...Alfredo with whatever you choose (smoked salmon, shrimp or chicken) are ALL amazing!! & their Milolii sandwich!! Plus, their service is always wonderful as well.

A really busy place. I was excited by the good reviews that this place has received. The server was polite, professional and efficient despite have quite a few tables in his section. We ordered appetizers right away as we sat down for the kids who were very hungry and they came quickly. We then ordered three pizzas and they took some time to come out. Since they advertise as wood fired pizza we were expecting a quicker turnaround. The pizzas on the menu are thoughtfuly put together but poorly executed. I would have to say the style of pizza crust is more of Papa John/Little Caesar’s style. Thicker dough than a normal wood fired pizza, it is overly sweet and first rolled out (losing any air pockets) then being hand stretched. Toppings were cut too large as well. I would give the service 4 stars but the half star for the pizza drags the overall rating down.

I had the smoked salmon alfredo and the pasta was undercooked even for el dente and I had to ask for more alfredo sauce because it was so dry. This was the third time eating this and it was the worse. The portion was also smaller than before. I should've eaten a pizza instead.

Best meal in hilo. Much better than the other 2 restaurants people will mention in hilo, one by the bay and the other 100 yards away. You know which 2 I am referring to without naming them. Reasonably priced. Only drawback is it is open kitchen concept so it is noisy.

Definitely not a quality place. Pasta sauce was bland at best. When I informed waiter, managers attitude was "oh well". Here's your bill. I don't generally review places but this was exceptionally bad. If you have a problem the manager should investigate and solve the issue. Place got good reviews and I was so disappointed. For sure would not go there again, nor recommend wasting your money like I did.

I have had excellent meals with great service at this restaurant , but this Monday not so much. Server assistant was desultory and monosyllabic. Server didn't really engage, seemed to be weary. It wasn't busy at the restaurant , not a lot of traffic downtown Hilo. Just wasn't a great experience, from such a well established venue. Maybe all the managers take Monday's off. Oh, and the food was good but with my wife and I being on the ketogenic diet, something new to the culinary scene I think. It's hard for chefs and cooks them to adjust.

Let us start with the location; fantastic and easy to find. Next the food. I had Eggs Benedict with Spanish mixed with nuts of some type and home made sweet potato potatoes. Yummy as could be. Couldn't have added anything to make the meal better. Now the service. The service is what created a 4 star instead of 5 star rating. The waiter was kind and professional bit he was confused easily and really slow. He brought me someone else's check after paying. I had to ask for my card back. My experience over all was satisfying.

Service was good. Live music which was a man on guitar and he was very good. Really enjoyed that. It was a Thursday evening. Meal was ok. Fish of the day which was advertised on the menu with risoto that sounded delicious. My fish was brought out on mashed potatoes. Taste was fine, but certainly not was I was looking forward to. Had a bite of pizza which was good. Bartender made a drink we requested, waitress took down ingredients.

Cafe Pesto continues to serve tasty food with competent staff and a nice atmosphere. Wood fired pizzas have a number of prebuilt options or build your own. Salads, soups, and Pastas are also available. Many items feature locally sourced Ingredients and an island twist. The caprese salad with local tomatoes and soft mozzarella and the seafood bisque were excellent. Barbecue chicken salad and the gorgonzola artichoke mushroom pizza flavorful. Musician played local tunes and we had an excellent night.

This place is very accommodating. When I came I had a stomach bug and couldn’t eat much. The kitchen kindly served some chicken soup and rice (even though it wasn’t on their menu). I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the Hilo area. 100/10!!

Went here for a birthday lunch and had a great experience. On a very warm day, the inside of this busy restaurant was pleasantly cool with moving air provided by multiple ceiling fans. Varied selection of lunch offerings from light fare to filling pizzas. I chose the fresh fish salad, snapper was the fish of the day and it was delicious. Had a vanilla creme brulee for dessert and it too was very tasty, nice layer of sugar crust with a thick custard beneath.

The atmosphere of this place is great. We visited in March on a Wednesday around noon and it wasn't too busy. I ordered a pulled turkey sandwich with mango chutney and purple sweet potato salad. My husband had a pizza which was alright. Overall the food was good and the service was great. Would visit again.

Great restaurant and wonderful live music in the evenings. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is due to the noise level. This concrete building with tile floors and hard ceiling is an echo chamber. Come and expect excellent food, friendly service but if it’s a full evening, do not expect a quiet romantic dinner.

Good lunch. Yes, we came to Hawaii and ate pizza - we still have a teenager who has to have pizza at least once a week. Ordered the pizza with Kahlua Pork and pineapple, it was very good. Also had Greek pizza and the BLT pizza, both were good, not anything steller. Service was excellent.

Both times we visited were phenomenally good. We had Lunch and dinner here on two different days. We were staying in Kona and drove around the island sightseeing. When we got to Hilo we were very hungry. We walked down the street and saw this cafe, it attracted us because of the ambiance- it looked like something from the 1950’s. Lunch was great but dinner was amazing. The staff were so friendly and helpful, at dinner we had live music which enhanced the mood. The cafe is kid friendly but also licensed, the meals are all enormous and incredibly tasty. And the desserts are to die for. I can recommend this restaurant it’s actually worth the two hour drive even if your not touring.

Pros: staff was very attentive (water glass never empty, waitress checked in frequently). I got the lokelani pizza and it was delicious! The salmon bisque was also very good. Me and my boyfriend shared the dessert special which was chocolate banana filled wontons with vanilla ice cream and it was amazing! Unlike any dessert ive had before. Cons: long wait to get in on a friday night, i would make a reservation. My boyfriend got the salmon alfredo, it was $25 and had the smallest piece of salmon ever. It was so thin and just a small square like a piece of spam! It was still a tasty dish but a rip off if you ask me. Noodles cost close to nothing so your really just paying for the salmon which we expected to be a large juicy piece.

Nice, air conditioned Italian/Pizza place right in Hilo Town next to the Hilo Farmer's Market. Pasta servings are huge. Cold brew coffee (with coffee ice cubes) is very good. There are a few good local brews on tap. My daughter raved about her pizza. It was good, but I like the pesto pasta at Hula Hulas better.

Fresh recipes, good local produce, a decent wine selection. Good soups, salads and pizzas. Recently discovered the Salmon Pizzette -- excellent! Nice entrees with pasta, fish, meats -- all very well prepared and well priced. Good service too!

Incredible food at a cute, retro cafe which often utilized local produce and meats on their signature dishes. Everything is fantastic but you can never go wrong with the daily specials or their pizzas and salads. The bar has a fantastic wine list and their signature cocktails are always impeccably mixed. First off, I’ll say right away that the food was quite nice and we don’t have anything bad to say about it. The service however needs much improvement. Upon arriving, we were seated right away into a cluttered spot. There was a weird, unknown smell which we decided to ignore. It took ten minutes for it server to come by where we then out in our order for food and drinks. The server was charming and had a nice smile. The individual who brought out food had a frown on his face and dropped off the plates without saying anything. We requested bread which never came, and once paying for our food change took about ten minutes to return. We tipped anyways but didn’t feel like we really needed to. We think the service could use some improvements.

Food and service are great here but the only problem is not enough parking. It’s very hard to find place to park, especially during the night. The street nearby is just too dark and quiet. Sometimes I arrive in front of the restaurant and have to skip it due to the issue.

Great breakfast at reasonable prices, I had the kalua pork omelet and it was one of the best omelets I have eaten. Portions are large and very filling (I could have easily shared this omelet with my wife). She had the standard egg, bacon and toast breakfast and was very pleased with it. We both loved our leisure breakfast overlooking the water. We highly recommend this place. Unfortunately, we were unable to get back to try their dinners. We did look at the dinner menu and everything looked delicious. Best of all their prices are very reasonable, especially for Hawaii.

What a surprise! This place is outstanding. We were seated right away. Right away they served a water the young man smiled and we had nice brief a chat. Our waiter followed introduce himself and explaining the specials for the day. He left us to finish the menu upon returning he asked if we had any questions about anything. We places our order at that time Sweet-and-sour Stir fry with buttermilk chicken with barbecue sauce on the side. and I ordered a drink from the menu a Pomegranate martini. Our meal was fabulous, nice to look at with great taste. Very reasonably priced.

I make sure to go here every time I go to Hilo. Great atmosphere, good service and the food is great! Close to the Hilo market and waterfront shops. Try the Calamari appetizer- the best I've ever had!

The food was great, waiter was really nice, their bathroom is clean, and they are very good at refilling beverages. It is just very loud in the restaurant and somewhat crowded. People with tummies can have a hard time getting to the table. Although they were very kind to our party who had a toddler, all the dishes are breakable and the table too tiny to prevent an accident. It is not a fast restaurant either (since it takes time to make food so delicious), so I would not recommend it for other parties with toddlers. For adults the only issue is the noise. FYI there appears to be only one menu item for vegans, and no vegan dessert. (We did not ask the waiter if we could special order anything.)

These were the best pizzas I've ever had. The spicy grilled prawn served on lots of melted smooth cheese and the bread and crust was so smooth. We couldn't finish so we took it back and ate it later. Best cold pizza I've ever had as well.

Service was good, food ok, wasn't super impressed. Had beef stir fry, wife had salad with Ono and tomato soup. The Ono was great, salad ok. Tomato soup good but little lite on something. My stir fry was ok, but not more. Kind of expected more.

I had the Caesar's salad and it was the best homemade dressing I ever had. Fun ambience. Love the historic feel. Best meal we've had on the Big Island so far

Absolutely love it! Was here five years ago and pregnant....the chef prepared something completely original to what I was craving and we came back twice....this is my first visit back and it delivered the same service and attention to detail. Highly recommend the shrimp pizza - the shrimp were perfectly cooked!
