Here you will see the opinions of people who bought the products and services of Alan Wong\'s (Restaurant) in the area close to the state of Hawaii.
Now the business gets a score of 4.5 over 5 and the score was based on 576 reviews.
You must have seen that the average of ratings is nearly the best one, and it is based on a high number of scores, so we can say that the valuation is quite reliable. If there are many people who bothered to give their opinion when they are satisfied, it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to give evaluations when they are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Restaurant belongs to the category of Pacific Rim restaurant.
Really good food. Shareable portions if you order multiple plates. Unfortunately our waiter was a bit distracted but we noticed other tables getting amazing customer service. The girl helping changing our plates and utensils after every plate was amazing.. she should get promoted to waitress.
Amazing food and near perfect table service. Wasn't too impressed with the waiting area for a pre booked table. Also didn't appreciate being sold a cook book before we even tried the food.
Tasting menu is $115 and they allow me to change one of the dessert to The Coconut, which is more famous and to my taste. I was gonna order it separately but the waiter offered to change one of the desserts on the tasting menu for me. So that worked out perfectly.Location is by the street. Kinda difficult to find but slow down if you are nearby and look out for the pineapple sign.
Our experience here was mediocre. If you've come from far away and are looking for fine cuisine and dining experince in Honolulu this may not be it. The food preparation was excellent and as professional as you would expect from this level of restaurant, but the service and management was sub par. Arriving for a 8:15 reservation (couldnt get 8pm 5 days ahead) we found a packed restaurant and were not seated until 8:45--standing room only at a the host's podium. We specifically were planning for the tasting menu (who wouldn't) and were told they had "run out" when our server finally arrived at our table at 9:15; the restaurant was pretty much deserted by 9:30. We had to ask for the wine list and ended up with a very confusing recommendation on what to order to "be similar" to the tasting menu. Bread was never served and we didn't bother to mention it--probably ran out of that too. The meal we ended up ordering was fine and met expectations. If you want to eat here call in your resevation well in advance, make sure you specify for a tasting menu, and plan to eat before 7. If you don't want to use valet parking, you can find street parking on one of the surrounding streets. Good luck and happy eating.
You're going to pay for it. And it is worth every penny.
Unique taste, Local touch and very friendly service.
Incredible dining experience.
Great food, great service, and it ended up being much more reasonable than I thought. Will definitely be coming here more often from now on.
Great food, especially the steak. Expensive, but good for special occasions. Validated parking as well!
FANTASTIC PLACE !!!! Thank you to our concierge at the Ritz!!! Absolutely the best meal I had in Hawaii !! The food is innovative, yet comforting at the same time!! I wish that I had found this place before my last night on the island. I would have gone a couple times to get to other items on the menu!! The presentation was just as delicious as the food itself. This restaurant is the place for great food in Waikiki .... HANDS DOWN.
Some spectacular food, but way below the quality of overall experience you expect with a name of this caliber. The meal was poorly paced, leaving us waiting for tens of minutes to have orders taken, then longer than expected once we ordered. The decor and music feel like the day the place opened. I'm not surprised their newer restaurant recently closed. It's a shame, because the signature dishes still sing like in those days too.
Haven't been here for awhile. Great service and attentive waiter
Great food, great service, makes a great experience! True Hawaii Reginal Cuisine.
If you are looking for a view, then go elsewhere. The service excellent and food very good. Very appropriate for a special occasion.
Amazing food, wonderful experience! The staff were pleasant and kind. The food was perfect. Great for a date night or anniversary.
What a let down. I suppose my wife and I had high expectations from all the 4- and 5-star reviews but, honestly, Alan Wong's didn't live up to the hype at all. We went there last year so I can't remember exactly what we ate but the execution was certainly not up to the standards from the mainland (we had a salad, a seafood dish, a meat dish, and something else). Perhaps this is the best "high-end" fusion that Oahu has to offer but compared to similar restaurants in Chicago, New York, Toronto, Paris, etc. Alan Wong's does not come close. The only positive about our experience was the service--but good service is expected at this price point. Overall we were disappointed and will not return; save your hard-earned money and try many of the cheaper (and better tasting) restaurants in Honolulu.
Always enjoyable! Love the ginger crusted Onaga!
In a spot of the city that isn't too busy, we walked from Waikiki beach and took the elevator up. We were promptly greeted and shown our table. Friendly staff and service throughout the entire meal. The food was incredible and didnt have one bad thing all night. I've attached pictures of all we ate. Worth the price.
Great food and service. Definitely recommend the tasting menu but exptect to eat a lot. The wine pairing is definitely a good choice with this. You be feeling very full as the portions a very healthy. My favorite of the tasting menu were the lasagna and the short ribs. I would also recommend the dark vesper from the cocktail menu. I would definitely recommend eating here.
We had a fantastic experience here. Given the location and inside of the restaurant is far from ideal for a dinner in honolulu but the food and service really compensates for this. We got a 5:00 pm reservation as it was the only one available, but after eating we were glad we did! We got seated promptly even though they do seem to have some issues at the front desk as the lineup to be seated was long behind us. We ordered a bottle of white wine which was great and the Sommelier was very helpful for this. We got offered the house bread foccacia or dinner roll with a chili sauce that was so good we got more of it the 3 times we were offered it (it was our mistake as then we were so so full) We got the chefs menu and it was worth it. Given it took a long time (3 hours) since we sat down until we left but it was amazing. The variety and taste of the dishes is great and the portions for a tasting menu are very generous. The Soup and Sandwich and the Fish were my favorites, however all the plates were delicious. The dessert that we were barely able to fit since we were so full was also an amazing combination of chocolate creations. Our waiter was very nice and attentive and we had an amazing experience. Even though it is expensive I would come back
Truly an incredible dining experience. During family trips in Honolulu, my husband would love to take me here for dinner. The food are very innovative and very well-thought out. The wait staff are very professional and always attentive to the needs of the customers. I won't hold back in giving my two thumbs up!
The best dinner in Honolulu. Must try for one night! The coconut dessert is amazing. So is the food in general. Super creative and the flavors are Hawaiian inspired. The service is also impeccable.
Great food and service
I have had a few great meals at Alan Wong’s in Honolulu. This might have been the best. We started with a melt-in-your-mouth sashimi and avocado stack. Delicious steamed fish and a tender and flavorful short rib for our main courses. The restaurant is all about high quality food that is beautifully presented. Save room for dessert. Don’t let the location stop you from making a reservation. The room is romantic and elegant. If you appreciate great food and service, make a reservation.
Food is great and friendly staff's
Love this place. The ambiance along with the service is superb. Parking is valet or street parking, we caught an Uber though. Took my girlfriend here for her 30th and she loved there food and wasn't dissapointed. They customized a menu with her name on it just for her and the chefs all signed it! So awesome. Must get the lihing tomato. Best tomato you'll ever have! "Da bag" is always good! Especially the butter sauce soaked with the house bread. Ginger crusted onaga for the main course and topped it off with the coconut for dessert. My better half got the braised Kalbi and waialua chocolate church bars. Both very delicious. Had an awesome experience, very professional staff, didn't feel rushed, they always checked on us but not to much to the point were it felt like they were bothering us. Highly Recommend this place for special occasions.
This was a wonderful restaurant with and excellent staff, me and my wife had the set course menu. The flavour were spot on and the portions were perfect.
Would love to give 4-5 stars... but unfortunately one of the fish dishes were too fishy smell, which I did not expect it. This particular fish shouldn't have smell like that so... I don't know what to say... rest of the dishes and service were great as before!
Absolutely loved our dinner experience. The food is incredible and the service is impeccable. It was apparent that everyone takes great pride in their work. Erin was a great help in having such a great experience. Mark was incredibly knowledgeable and taught us so much as he guided us through our tasting journey. I liked seeing how everyone working there seemed to help each other out with the primary goal to ensure the customers were well taken care of during their time here. It is truly an experience to remember.
Great service and superb tasting menu with wine pairing
It was a absolute disasterous experience for my family. We reserved a table for Christmas Eve. But we still end up waiting for at least 40 minutes to a hour before we were seated. ( we are not the only people waiting with reservation) And then food wasn’t quite to our liking. Most food are really salty. It completely ruined our Christmas Eve. I feel so bad for my family that we had to go back to the hotel with empty stomach. Will never recommend anybody to go again. Tried another restaurant at Honolulu called chef Marvo which tastes way better!
Fantastic! We got the family meal, and it was absolutely worth it. Perfectly sized. No regrets!!!
My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon in Hawaii and booked Alan Wong’s for dinner on our last night in Oahu. They really made us feel special during our time in the restaurant. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but if you’re doing dinner here for a special occasion, be sure to let them know! Food was amazing, hands down the best we’ve ever eaten. Staff was very friendly and super accommodating. Shoutout to Aaron T. And his teammate (didn’t catch his name) for making our dinner experience that much better!
Something to remember, excellent food, phenomenal customer service. Perfect, would give 6 stars if i could.
Excellent service and great food! We did the degustation and they catered very well for our dietary needs. The prawn & lobster lasagna, and the short-ribs were outstanding.
Good food and impressive service. They will provide a personalized and signed menu for customers celebrating birthday or anniversary here. I tired their menu tasting, which costs $95 per person. It included an appetizer, 3 entrees and 1 dessert. I like the 3 entrees best, especially short rib. We also exchanged one of our desserts to coconut icecream, but that one is not really impressive.
outstanding choice for seafood lovers. great service
White table cloth dining! Casual, no flip flop but sandals ok. A collar shirt is a must. Usually everyone is nice dressed.
Food and Service excellent...as usual
Yes yes yes. This is what fine dining is all about. They have mastered it. Incredible food, amazing staff, and an overall wonderful experience had by all. I have been a few times and love it more and more each time I go. Most important thing i will say in this whole review- get the short rib for your main course and the ice cream "coconut" for dessert. The short rib is tender and flavorful and melts in your mouth. Also a big enough portion to take a piece home and enjoy it again for a late night snack. wow. just thinking of it makes me want to look up flights to hawaii. the ice cream coconut is so festive and yummy. It will not disappoint. they have many yummy apps. you can't go wrong. Make a reservation in advance. Enjoy!
Best food I've had in a while
Nothing better than a truly wonderful establishment with excellent, locally-sourced menu.
One of the absolute best meals I've eaten in my life! Not cheap by any stretch, but unforgettably delicious!
D's Bag was to die for. Loved the flavors and the yummy clams.
Food is good; wouldn't call it great. Pricey of course. Be aware, service is very leisurely: dinner for our party of 8 took more than four hours. Service was attentive, with a few people involved, and yet there were several misses. We enjoyed the seafood cake appetizer and the heart of palms Caesar. The chocolate bar dessert was a very generous portion, easily shareable with the table. Yummy too!
Went here for a wonderful dinner with the boyfriend. We ordered the tasting menu with the wine pairings. Our server Michael was super informative, the staff was very attentive. Food was delicious. It wasn't nearly as fancy as I expected so we probably over dressed for the occasion. But thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience.
My husband I have wanted to come here for a while. We finally went tonight and left very unimpressed. There are so many amazing places on Oahu, this is not one of them. Unfortunately there were so many things uninspiring that it is hard to capture. The Hearts Of Palm aalad was very good. The rest left a lot to be desired.
Food was excellent. A personalized experience. Was very cold in the restaurant, so recommend wearing an extra layer.
Odd spread of food but delicious. Definitely get the pa te.
The food is great, however, as we have been here many years, recently their menu and services have changed. Our favorite dishes are no longer on the menu, and the new selection are now come with restrictions (i.e. full dining menu combo will need to be for the whole table, which do not work well with different people, different appetite levels). Don't think I will return.
When we walked in, they seated us pretty quickly. It wasn't too crowded inside. The hostess pulled my chair out for me and she helped us put the napkin over our laps. Since I came for my birthday, they were nice enough to print my name on the menu which I thought was a nice little touch. We got the 5 course dinner meal set where they bring you several courses and a dessert.
Food with wine pairing for boys day was excellent
There are NOT enough stars for this tiny, indescribable place. It is s MUST-GO (if you can find it).
Myself and my partner ate here while visiting Oahu from Ireland. Our server was called Aaron and he gave us such good recommendations. I had the short rib and my partner had the red snapper. Both were absolutely delicious. The mai tai cocktail was excellent, and interestingly spiced. We finished with a coffee from the big island and the candy bars dessert. We were both stuffed, and felt that the portions were generous.
Alan wong's is top notch
Really really good food here. Pricey but worth it. Went here in Jan of 2016. Sat up at the bar and ordered a steak and the tuna appetizer. Bar looks directly at the kitchen so you can watch the people work and talk to them if you want. Both the steak and tuna app were amazing. Everything here is great. Any review talking bad about this place is simply as idiot.
Excellent food and service
"My disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined" The place is dimly lit and each person gets a single piece of bread (they give you a single french roll or slice of focaccia [lol not both because they want you to spend more money on real food]). Food was decent (but when you take the price into account, it was a total ripoff). Steak was extra chewy and unflavorful. Very limited selection (seriously, if you want to have a nice family meal at a restaurant, Outback Steakhouse or Chiles has 1. A much more diverse menu 2. The food tastes better, and 3. Its SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. If you're looking for someplace equally "fancy", just go to Roy's). Steak was extra chewy and not very flavorful. My single french roll was tops though. I honestly don't know why this place is so expensive (it's definitely not the venue, atmosphere, or food). The service was perfectly adequate (key word adequate. not spectacular in anyway). The busser (i forget his name but it started with a c) was good. The outdoor tables get a nice view of the street and a bunch of random buildings. If you truly love your significant other/spouse and were planning to take them here for a date/anniversary, you would go somewhere else.
There's nothing wrong with it... It's good mainstream food with a humble family atmosphere. But there's nothing really amazing about the food, decor, service etc... From a global perspective; in my opinion. Perhaps my expectations were too high for what is supposed to be one of the best restaurants on Oahu.
Ridiculously over due review for Alan Wong's. Came here a few years back. Amazing choice to have our one "fancy" vacation dinner here. Staff was friendly and had the aloha hospitality. Food was amazing! We each did the tasting menu with wine pairing. Our favorite to date was the ginger crusyed fish. Not sure what wine they paired it with but it was also our favorite. A bit sweet and went very well with the fish! I also can't leave out that they personalized our menu's with our anniversary on them and was able to take them home as a keepsake from our vacation. It's the little touches that will get me back there again. Can't wait to visit again the next time I go to Oahu!
Very fresh and we all joked we could not remember a more colorful meal--each course was presented with beautiful, saturated colors--with unique (can we say fusion?) flavors....I couldn't always place the various ingredients because there were so many layers and that's a good thing. Our only complaint is that this wonderful restaurant is several floors up in a very corporate/slightly dumpy building and for the price you're paying the curb appeal distracts you from the actual restaurant space (which is nice) and such inventive food. Red Roof Inn-ish on the outside, Plaza Athenee on the inside.
We have never been disappointed with our experience at Alan Wong's! The food is excellent and the service exemplary.
My wife and I had a wonderful meal at Alan Wong's. We came here to celebrate our anniversary and were greeted with a personalized menu signed by the entire staff wishing us a happy anniversary. That was a great touch. The food was also amazing. My wife ordered the red snapper and I ordered the seafood bowl. Both were very tasty. Overall, we were extremely happy with our decision to come here.
Really enjoyed our experience here. My wife and I celebrated a belated anniversary here and were really impressed by the food-so much do that we brought our kids back on the last night of our trip. Standouts for me were da bag, the snapper, and the scallop risotto. That said, we enjoyed basically everything. Top notch service, too. It's in kind of a weird location, but would definitely go back.
“Very good ” I had to make a reservation a month ahead of time and the earliest time they had was 8pm. We had the fixed menu and the food was really good. I was really impressed with the 'coconut shell' dessert!
Alan Wong’s on King Street is one of the world’s great restaurants, yet it is moderately priced and accessible (you can generally get a reservation with a few days’ notice). This has made Alan Wong’s popular with residents and tourists for decades. The food is fresh, local, and delicious. The ambiance pleasant. The service is friendly, polite, and professional. The menu classics are deservedly long-time favorites. And the new and special items inventive and appealing. We have dined at Alan Wong’s more than a dozen times over the years and always come away delighted by our meal and the experience.
My wife and I absolutely loved it. The food was delicious, the service was great, and the atmosphere was fun and relaxed. I'd highly suggest it to anyone. If you are in Honolulu, you have to go to Alan Wong's! We did the menu sampler, and it was really nice. The food was all so good. Also the golden Sabbath beer they have, is delicious!
This place is a bit tucked away, with valet parking and a nice view. The service was proffesional, although a bit slow. Despite that, the food more than made up for it. My son's pasta was great and given that he's a picky eater we were just happy to see him enjoying a nice dish. My wife's seafood dish had what we both agreed was the most perfectly cooked shrimp either of us have ever had. My steak was cooked just as ordered, but the garlic mashed potatoes were even better than the steak. Though the place was not perfect, I could not justify less than a five star review for such a nicely spread palate.
Went here to celebrate a birthday and were very impressed. Excellent service and a great view out the windows of the city at night. If it's your first visit, get the tasting menu, so you can try more of the menu. The onaga was the highlight for us.
Great service and fantastic food. Lives up to the hype, definately a must try when you're visiting Oahu.
The dishes continue to be elevated although the favorites are still on the menu. I absolutely love the new take on the Beet and Goat Cheese Appetizer. The lemon grass takes it to a new level. We ended our night trying the Pineapple Shave Icwhich was served on top of a vanilla panacotta and a tapioca sorbet. It was so perfectly not too sweet and the best end to a perfect meal.
Great service and food.
Fresh, local and tasty food
Probably one of the worst if not the worst dining experiences I've ever had. First of all they forgot our reservations; we arrived 10 minutes early and were informed our table would be ready for 8:30, so we stood and waited, and waited. At around 8:50 we asked how much longer for our table which was met with a shocked response from the hostess who clearly forgot about us eventually leading to a mad scramble by the manager who, after about 10 more minutes, managed to squeeze enough chairs together around a table that clearly wasn't meant to handle it. As a make good they said our first round of drinks would be on the house, fair enough mistakes happen. We ordered a couple of drinks and a bottle of wine and they brought out a wrong (cheaper) bottle as we had been standing around for 40+ minutes we didn't make a big deal and just moved on. We ordered the tasting menu and it was extremely disappointing, no two plates looked the same or had equally sized portions and there seemed to be no care put into plating. The service during dinner was all over the place with one server simply dumping forks on our already small table at one point one person in our group had 5 forks given to him for some unknown reason. Finally came the bill not only did they charge us for the drinks that were suppose to be comped but they also charged us for the more expensive wine we originally ordered and not the cheaper one that they served. After we explained their errors it took another 20 minutes for them to confirm their mistake and we weren't even given an apology for this wonderful exercise. Bottom line stay away from Alan Wong like the plague awful awful service and overall terrible experience.
Great food for reasonable pricing with a helpful/attentive staff.
Had hubby's 77th birthday dinner here. Wine pairings witj prix fixe dinner for two. Gteat service, good wait staff and the food was superb.
better then expected. staff was friendly. food was great. accommodated my needs. would go there again on my next trip to hawaii
4 stars. Tasty food, somewhat slow service with large gaps between courses. The staff was friendly. The restaurant accommodated our birthday reservation very well by printing a custom menu signed by the staff and including a free dessert. There was a discrepancy in our bill, which was resolved amicably.
For a highly regarded restaurant, it fell short in my book. We came with a bunch of friends as a celebration of sorts. It was two people’s birthdays, one couple’s wedding celebration, and our Babymoon. The personalized menu was a nice touch but that was about it. The dinner service took a very long time. I got a seafood mix plate (I forgot what it was called and unmemorable that I didn’t take a picture of) that had a very uneven amount of lobster as compared to friend next to me. The lobster pieces were very small, and my friend got 3 pieces to my 1 piece. I know lobster is the expensive component of the entree and told the server. They took my plate back to the kitchen and gave me back a whopping one more additional piece. Also, the dish was extremely salty. They did give us free dessert for our celebration. Compared to other fine dining places I’ve been to, this ranks on the bottom
Service is very friendly, drinks are chintzy but tasty. Good wine selection but the food is just ok. It tastes fresh but too salty. The two dishes on the menu that I wanted were not available. The recommended fish had too much soy sauce which made it super salty. Dessert was better but overall, disappointing.
Its a little odd getting in here and taking the elevator up, but once you arrive you will experience the best service ever and amazing food. They make a custom menu to celebrate your occasion and are the nicest people ever. The food is sooo good. The whole tomato salad changed my whole perception of tomatoes. The short rib was fantastic. Great place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or in our case a honeymoon!
Been here twice before, (every time) we visit Honolulu. This visit was disappointing. Other Patrons have voiced their displeasure, you would expect more from "A Famed" Restaurant such as this, perhaps Mr. Wong is someplace else and has allowed this to be managed by someone else. A bottle of wine should be served at a proper temperature right. When the wine was poured for tasting the glass frosted over. It was a Cabernet Sauvignon 2012. Upon asking the "Somm" if he thought it might be a good idea to decant it to allow it to breath and hopefully encourage it to warm to a reasonable drinking temperature he said oh no it'll be fine in a few minutes. we had an hour and a half for dinner (another disappointment). After 25 minutes we haven't touched the wine, the glass remains frosted, so I insisted on a decanter to move things along. We ordered two small plates to which they said they could produce without onions, since when is a Poke not made from scratch, I had it last year same place and it was not a problem. Same thing with dinner plates, I had to select out of a small menu the least thing I wanted because they could not accommodate no onion request. I'm a reasonable person, I know somethings you simply can not remove or make without onions. I had to settle for something simple and not exactly satisfying. Maybe it was just this night, but for me I'm only there twice a year and I won't waste my time going there again. There are other places to dine at that do cater to my likes. Le Mer, Morimoto Asia, Hoku's at the Kahala Resort had absolutely no problem preparing, adjusting to no onions.
Superb service and the best meal I have eaten in quite some time. Our server Riley took really good care of us.
Elegant dining with creative food.
I was celebrating my birthday there and I really enjoyed every bit(e) of it. This is Obamas favorite restaurant on the island and now it's also mine. Really recommend testing menu
A legendary restaurant in Hawaii. The coconut is a classic dessert that I would have felt remiss if I had not been able to experience. Excellent meal and great experience.
Fine dining twist on local Hawaiian favorites. Loved my experience here. Drinks, apps, mains, dessert and service were all five stars. I highly recommend Alan Wong's and will tell friends and family to stop here.
Amazing food and amazing service! Had the twice cooked short ribs. Best short ribs i ever had
Very good attention, service, drinks and food. The taste is awesome too. Excellent experience. Ps. It's quite expensive.
Definitely get the tasting menu. The ginger crusted snapper is the greatest fish dish I've ever had. They signed the menu for my wife's birthday. The place is a little out of the way and in this completely nondescript office building.
Love Alan Wong's. The food is always good and the desserts are truly some of my favorites. I especially love the chocolate bars. I love salads and shellfish. My hubby loves steak. The ambiance is special and everything is delicious. Go to Alan Wong's. It's a must, especially if you're a visitor. If you don't come to Hawaii often, make it a must.
Absolutely delicious food and superb staff. Was a joy the moment we sat down and only got better as the night went on. The key is to make sure you leave room for the special coxobit dessert.
Great experience overall. From customer service and food. It was a delight.
Absolutely good
Great service, excellent food and fun cocktails.
Went there almost two years ago. Let’s see what part of that dinner is still memorable :-). My family celebrated my parents’ special birthday at this restaurant. We were very happy about their thoughtfulness. They printed a special menu with my parents’ name on it and also made a surprise cake dessert for the special occasion. The food was yummy but not particularly unforgettable. At least, I cannot remember what dish makes me think to come back. They have a good wine list. The room decor was oriental and traditional.
This place defines phenomenal. To start it is in downtown honolulu so paying $5 for 3 hours of safe and easy parking with their valet is a great start. When we got up to the restaurant we were greeted by the very friendly staff in a simple yet upscale room. This can't be stressed more, but our server Aaron was one of the best we ever had. Knowledgable, laid back, the perfect amount of attentitiveness, and a slight wit and sense of humor. My wife and I were here for our anniversary, so this place was expensive, but I assure you it is worth every penny. We ordered the prix fixe (I think that's how it's spelled) so we got a bit of everything. Every course was delicious, my personal favorite being the ribs styled after kalbi. They were extremely understanding of my wife being pregnant, substituting raw eggs with something else and cooking her food just a touch more. After we were done, they surprised us with a slice of chocolate cake for our anniversary which was beyond mouthwatering. 6/5 stars of I could, best place I've ever eaten at!
Onolicious
We ate here several years ago and returned this week to celebrate my birthday since we were back in Honolulu. Our evening managed to surpass our memories of our prior meal. They have updated and upgraded the ambiance since we were there last. The service was excellent and they did a terrific job making the evening special for my birthday. The food was delicious! The menu highlights their tried and true dishes. You can't go wrong ordering these. My husband did not love his entree, which the server noticed and removed from our bill. He wasn't going to mention anything. Overall a fantastic experience.
This used to be my favorite place in HNL but it has fallen quite a bit. Food has lost its pizzazz and overall was quite disappointing. Service is bad. They have the same old middle age bread servers who don't give a damn about service. Waiters just keep trying to push the same dishes. No more for me.
Good food, grest service, nice atmosphere.
Very good service and great food. Only advice do NOT get the wine pairing with the tasting menu, absolutely not worth
The food at Alan Wong's really is meticulously done and tastes amazing! All the wait staff is extremely courteous and very knowledgeable about the menu and even wine pairings and cocktails. I went for an anniversary dinner and was surprised with a customized menu with our names on it and the signatures of everyone working there and a surprise dessert at the end of the meal. If you have a special night in mind, head over to Alan Wong's and I can assure you, you won't be disappointed
Seafood Bowl was one of the best seafood dishes I've ever had. Ginger Crusted Onaga was outstanding, as was Da Bag appetizer. Great service, slightly dated atmosphere (you'll see the James Beard awards on the wall from the late 90s when you walk in and it'll make sense). Really wonderful food. Staff is attuned to food allergy issues but of the dishes asked about regarding a Gluten allergy, none could be adjusted, which does limit the options somewhat.
We went here on our last day in Hawaii. The restaurant is in an unassuming part of town near the airport. The restaurant is very very nice. We were greeted pleasantly and seated immediately. The food was fantastic. We had their signature dessert which looked as good as it tasted. I'd love to go there again if we ever visit Oahu again.
Wonderful food. Hawaiian influenced fine dining. Save room for desert!
They have the BEST coconut dessert..and I don't even like coconut!
Average food. Not even comparable to Roy's which beats this hands down easily. Excellent service though. The lobster bisque was probably the best thing we had. The seafood dumplings were dry and flavorless. The beef rib dish was more like a pot roast, nothing special. The salmon was cooked perfectly, but again nothing wowed me about it. The chocolate cake was way too airy and just had a basic cocoa taste to it, nothing rich nor unique.
We stumbled into Alan Wong’s because the place we wanted to go to was closed. Let me tell you... this is not the type of restaurant to pull an audible on! It was a phenomenal, 5-Star restaurant. They were very accommodating. Da bag appetizer, fish cakes & ahi were amazing. Alan Wong’s house White wine from Tuscany was a great pairing. Looking forward to going back!
Been alive on this rock for almost thirty years and never have I ever been to Alan Wong's! It was my first time dining here and it was such a nice experience. The ambience was very pleasant and calm unlike the typical hustle and bustle of a restaurant at dinner time.
Always a five star experience! The service is perfect. The food is perfect. The wine is perfect. I love this place. Make a reservation early to avoid a mob scene at the host station.
I have had a few great meals at Alan Wong’s in Honolulu. This might have been the best
The food was good but not great. The service was top notch and quite attentive. Over priced and not romantic.
Just the best experience on our anniversary. Simply the best Prix fixe dinner ever! The servers were very knowledgeable about the food and drinks and very attentive. The staff even signed our menu to celebrate our anniversary.
So happy we were recommended to try this place. The food is spectacular and the service over and beyond. We dined here on the 7th March 2019 for our 10 year wedding anniversary and everything was done to ensure it was a special night for my wife and I. Even the menu had our names on it. Although the food is not what you would normally see on any other menu - it is absolutely to die for. If we ever come back to Hawaii we will be dining at this place again. Thank you Alan Wong’s for making our special night one to remember!
Yeah, underwhelmed here too. Yummy pineapple drink served with delicious chunks flavored with rum. Wanted to do the prie fix but they were out of red snapper so the substitute was tilapia - no thanks. The lobster bisque and the seared ahi tuna dish carried the meal. Rest was meh. Service was great and I could tell our server lived and breathed giving his tables the Alan Wong experience.
Everything about Alan Wong's is exceptional!
Excellent dining, their signature items are outstanding. Red snapper meals are dressed with surprisingly complex sauces. Tomato Salad (not what you’d expect) is outstanding, deeply flavorful with notes of Japanese plum, lime (kefir, key?) citrus in a light original Russian-style dressing. Exceptional friendly service. Amazing food.
The atmosphere was perfect. The service was impecable and the food was awesome. The portions are the correct size (if not a bit on the larger one). Their drink selection is cool. The location is a bit hard to find. The desserts are creative - they rebuilt a coconut using chocolate and coconut ice cream.
I love this place, but they are far from a Michelin star.
We made a reservation, weeks in advance, but they kept us waiting over 20 min passed our time-- but comped a round of drinks. Once we finally got to the table the service was friendly and knowledgeable. Food was excellent, but it did not all arrive at the table hot. Getting the check and getting out took way too long.
As far as the Honolulu food scene goes, Alan Wong's is one of the better places you could visit for for a great meal and experience. From the time you enter the restaurant, the service is fantastic. The restaurant itself feels modern despite being around for so long. The food... The food is innovative, yet captures classic flavors and simply captivates the palate. All in all the experience here from the service to the food is spectacular.
First rate. Wonderful service. Divine food hat is unique. Incredible beer and wine pairings.
A friend recommended this place and it lives up to its reputation. We tied the tasting menu which was $90 per person and order an extra appetizer and dessert. We were stuffed before the dessert course was ready. The food was delicious and drinks were good. And of course their desserts were to die for. There is valet parking for $5, which is worth it. Street parking could be difficult.
Great restaurant. Michael is by far the best waiter there who gave us a very detailed description of the menu. The service is also extremely fast.
Classy upscale restaurant tucked away in a 3-story office building. Delicious!
A truly AMAZING restaurant. Not one member of our large (and sometimes picky) family left without RAVING about their dinner. AMAZING SERVICE, EVEN BETTER FOOD. Expensive, but here you definitely get what you pay for. Will visit again every time in town.
This is the second time my husband and I have eaten at Alan Wong's and it is the one place my husband doesn't mind spending a lot of money for dinner because from appetizer to dessert - it is special!
Dined here 4 times. If vegetarian you will be disappointed. I fall back on fish if they can't do anything vegetarian. The course menu will become Fish , Fish , Fish and dessert. :( But its a chill place. The bread is awesome. Normally I skip on breakfast and lunch to enjoy dinner to the fullest. I kept requesting bread. Then the waiter says to me: "You've already had over 10 rolls. Maybe 12." I asked: Is there a limit? He said: No. Well, then I don't need to be told how many I have eaten. I ask for rolls and eat them, just do your job of serving them. :(
Outstanding food and capable service in a comfortable setting. Creative culinary gem in Honolulu.
Mostly impressed with food and service.
Valet parking, the prixe fixe menu was delicious. More upscale place hidden away in a seemingly random location
It's good but a bit pricey
omg. The best in menu selection, food prep and presentation -- service is a 10+ -- valet parking-- no views (some city lights on a lanai seating area) beautifully decorated and furnished. Pricey, but you really don't care!
Food and wine pairings are sublime. Refined Hawaiian food at its best with terrific wine pairings for the tasting menu Excellent service and fantastic staff!
Food was good, but we had higher expectation. The restaurant was air conditioned to the point of being freezing.
Unfortunately one of the more unfortunate high end restaurants I have been to. Seems like a fancy restaurant that overcharges, and tries to have a michelin star but far from achieving one. Service: waiter and waitresses forgot about us, we actually heard "ahhh" and saw a waiter turn the other direction because he forgot about our food (we had asked about long wait). For a 5 course tasting menu, it took nearly 3 hours. It normally takes a 7-9 course tasting menu for me to make it last 3 hours. It was also to celebrate a birthday and engagement. The names on the plate were incorrect for our dessert. Food: good, but not amazing. Two of the five dishes were tasty. Foie gras kahlue pork grilled cheese with tomato soup (though the soup was a bit salty), and the twice cooked slow braised ribs. The signature sauce for the fish dish was also good, but the fish was very meteocre. My lobster and shrimp lasagne was unpleasant as well - both my mother and I had pasta that was incredibly undercooked. Price: for the price, I'd think quality and service of food would be better. Parking: valet is five dollars without tip. Typically parking is free and you give tip to the valet in my experience.
Unparalleled service and menu items
Gastronomic home if Alan Wong, one of the fathers of Hawaiian Regional Cuisine. The service is very friendly and the team is very knowledgeable about the menu. We're served by Yuki and young man (who's a Clark Kent lookalike), just as good as Michael previously. The tasting menu is a great idea for a first time visitor, as it give a pretty good idea of Chef's style and tastes. There are a lot of interesting, well crafted dishes in the a la Carte. With all his dishes it's important to have the different elements on the plate together, otherwise you won't understand how the flavours marry together.
Awesome place, I love there foods in here. The staff was so friendly and attentive. Highly recommend.
Really good food. And a nice restaurant. Only bad was the service. Our waiter seemed new to the job and forgot some things. But could definitely recommend
Delicious food. Attentive staff, bur not obtrusive.
Don't let the building fool you. It's a great place to experience new flavours. Me being a meat eater, I highly recommend the tomato salad. Dressing is awesome.
Great food, great service, $$$, well worth it!
Truly exceptional dining experience. Every course was perfectly executed and the presentations were unique and fanciful. The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and this place will not disappoint. Great value for the quality and quantity of the food.
Very good restaurant experience in Oahu. Off the beaten path but well worth it.
Excellent food with outstanding service. Well worth a visit for fine dining aficionados.
Ok, this place has good food, but there is something lacking. Perhaps because it's upstairs and I feel like the ceilings are kinda closed in or something. But overall, the presentation is great. Fresh clean tasting entrees. Nothing that really stands out to me compared to other eateries. Small portions and high price tags didnt really appeal to me much
Simply the best. Sit at the chefs counter and watch beautiful plates be prepared in a very organized kitchen. Pick up some hints as well. The tasting menu with wine pairings is well worth the price.
Very good food. The portions are small but expected. The server was nice but there was a bit of a wait for things to come out. Also ok. The ambiance was nice open and not overly tightly seated.
Unfortunately my wife and I were not able to enjoy this restaurant, for our special evening. We had reservations and arrived on time and we were seated promptly, which was appreciated. However after waiting for over 10 minutes and no one stopped by our table to greet us we decided to leave, as this was a telling sign of the service experience we were likely to receive.
First off there is a valet right in front of the restaurant, I am unsure if there is free parking in the building but you could street parking if you really wanted to. Restaurant itself is a few floors up the elevator, if you want at least some kind of view you can request seating by the window which provides decent mountain views. I like it because it's a little more quiet there. On this visit tried their restaurant week special which was excellent. Usually I go with their traditional sampler and that never disappoints either. Just be advised that some of those items can change. Overall this place is a pretty good dining experience that is moderately expensive.
Exceptional food quality and warm/engaging service. 10 out of 10 !
Great food! Great atmosphere! Great service! Expensive but reasonably so based on quality of food and ambience. I like this place for special occasions but would stop in for an elegant appetizer and dessert. At must visit when you are in Honolulu. The desserts a wonderful!
I would give this place more stars if I could. My husband and I had one of our best dinners ever here. We’re celebrating our honeymoon and there was no better way to end our stay in Waikiki than this delicious dinner with incredible service. Aaron was our waiter and he was so pleasant and helpful. For drinks, I had the Mr. Guava Lava and my husband had the old fashion. I’m a girly drinker, so this drink was lychee-coconut goodness. We ordered “da bag” as our appetizer, which was basically baby clams and the kalua pork, YUM. I ordered the ginger crusted fish (can’t remember the kind of fish) with a side of the BEST Garlic mashed potatoes I’ve ever had (and I’ve eaten a lot of mashed potatoes. My husband had twice cooked spare ribs that just melted in your mouth. His dish also had perfectly cooked jumbo shrimp. For dessert we ordered the coconut, which is basically coconut ice cream in a chocolate/toasted coconut shell and fruit. Alan Wong’s also served us a complimentary chocolate cake dessert with chocolate mousse, which was equally delicious. Thank you Alan Wong’s for making our last night in Oahu absolutely perfect. We can’t wait to return for the delicious food and outstanding service.
