This Restaurant belongs to the category of Japanese restaurant.
While on vacation in Atlanta We were recommended to dine at this restaurant. Upon entering we were turned away because I was wearing a pair of Maui gem ($90) flip flops. It was unfortunate that the evening started in this manner, I do wish that they would be a little bit more forward thinkers and realize at you can enjoy sushi in all attire. I went to a restaurant down the street and had a delightful evening with my beautiful wife and family. Maybe we will be able to enjoy their cuisine later on when they update their more modern policies.
Food was delicious. Staff were very nice and accommodating. Dress code required but atmosphere not stiff or stuck-up
Amazing service and excellent sushi. The rolls were a bit blah which is the reason for 4 vs. 5 stars.
Great service, good food, a little sceney, reasonable prices considering the quality of the ingredients. Wish the actual sushi rice were a little more delicate.
Beautifully designed restaurant in a great location. Excellent service, great menu. The restaurant itself is fairly small, which is likely why reservations are difficult to get, and it is SO LOUD. Between the loud music and the patrons yelling over one another, conversation is difficult. The fish was excellent, especially the “sousaku nigiri” that is made to be eaten as is and is a perfect bite! They were out of a few Fish and dessert items, which was disappointing. It’s definitely the best sushi in Atlanta...and at $200 per person it had better be!
The best sushi in Atlanta. A little bit pricey but well worth it.
So finger licking good I stripped naked and ran out of the place screaming Yumi!
Unique bougie and one of a kind
Awesome place. I ate at the sushi-bar and it was a fantastic experience. Very nice chefs prepare plates in front of you, offering something unique. Dresscode: elegant
Don’t believe the hype. This place is overrated. 4.6 stars is not accurate. Our favorite sushi place in ATL is 8 Sushi Lounge. Every dish at 8 Sushi is a masterpiece. Umi sushi was subpar. We were expecting so much more. Even the salad was bland. We orders several rolls and a sashimi. Nothing made an impression at all. I travel all over the country. Umi needs to hire better sushi chefs. They need to see how good sushi is created. Check out Takashi in SLC. Sushi by Gari in NYC. Ohshina in Tustin. Wasabi in Breckenridge. Even their special desert was nothing special. If they are going to charge this much money the sushi needs to be on point. The service was excellent but the sushi was forgettable. There are many better options for food. If Umi was in NYC it would close in a month. I was really hoping they would be better but the dinner turned out to be a bummer. If you are in the area go to the Thai place next door. I hate to have to be so real but I hope Umi reads this and they step their game up. This message is sent with peace and love. Foodies will understand.
For the ambiance and the atmosphere this place is amazing
Food is great and service was good too. But the management suck and they want to turn table and after I spent close to 1k I was willing to stay longer and spend more with my guest. They kicked me out because another party was waiting. I'm guessing it's a time limit here and other restaurants have never kick me out before. I would not come here to bring big party plus they put 20 percent gratuity on your total and usually it's on subtotal in most restaurants.
I got the mid level Omakase for me and my girlfriend during our anniversary. Honestly the dishes did not taste very good. They kept putting jalapeno and lime on several of the dishes to the point of overpowering the flavor of the fish For 358 I expected the food to taste better. It was disappointing overall after hearing the rave reviews. The whole place felt super white washed. If you are looking for a more authentic and intimate place I'd stay away.
I got the chef 12 piece nigiri plate and gotta say... AMAZING sushi
Start to finish the food, drinks, service and the restaurant was absolutely amazing!
Wow! What an experience! This is hands down one of my favorite places to eat in Atlanta. Everything from the food to the service to the ambiance is incredible. Even if you are juts sitting at the bar you will have a wonderful experience. Make sure to make reservations...especially if it is on the weekend as it is always packed and sometimes it can take weeks to get a weekend reservation here. They do have the bar and lounge area up front as an option but it is every person for themselves when it comes to seating and is often packed out. While their sushi is amazing, their hot dishes are delicious as well! I really enjoy their avocado salad and the kobe beef roll. If you want a treat yourself moment the caviar ottoro is a hefty price for two pieces but it is so buttery and smooth! Definitely worth it as this place is not cheap! I can honestly say I have never left here disappointed. Perfect for a spacial occasion or fancy date night. Also, fun for celebrity watching as you never know who is going to be dining there! Located in the same area as Chops, St. Regis and King & Duke. There is a parking deck as well as valet. I always recommend this place to out of town guests as it will be quite an experience!
Easily some of the best sushi I've ever eaten in Atlanta. I was told that it was very expensive but I didn't find it to be unreasonable by any means. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because I took my wife here for our anniversary, and I found the environment to be extremely busy and noisy with a more open seating arrangement. I'm not opposed to any of that but for a high end, hard to reserve restaurant, I was expecting a slightly different atmosphere.
I have spent time in Tokyo, eaten at a lot of sushi places here in Atlanta, Manhattan, San Fran, other places, but Umi is one of if not the best quality sushi I have experienced. The owner/head chef in the picture with us was so cool and accommodating, treated us like family. The fatty toro was my favorite, along with the uni. Be prepared to pay if you go, but it is totally worth it. You will probably see Atlanta royalty if you go.
get the Omakase! you will not be disappointed. freshest seafood around. outstanding service too!
What else is to really say, other than this is the best sushi around? Some may question 4 stars rather than 5, but the food is just so expensive that I really struggle to put down a 5th star. The sushi is great, with some of the freshest and highest quality ingredients being moved through the doors daily. If you want the best sushi in Atlanta, then come to Umi ready to spend.
Not that they need a review because from the moment you step foot in ATL you hear about how Umi is a must go! Everything on the menu is so amazing and consistent. Its refreshing to finally have a restaurant where the staff, the food, and the ambience is at the highest level and ALWAYS on point. I would give 10 stars if I could.
Let's get one thing straight here, the food is good. If you're looking for good sushi and really don't care about the price this is a good place to at least try. That being said the food is very expensive even for Buckhead and you can get better sushi for less expensive not far away. The place is also very pretentious (I had to sign a contract for my reservation which included how many people would be there, that we would all adhere to their strict dress code, etc) insomuch as to not even allow take home boxes of you weren't able to finish. Overall good food and a decent experiment but I'll get my sushi elsewhere afterwards
Amazing service amazing food did chefs choice was the best dinner we had... Drinks , appetizers, main course and dessert was all top notch! Duck was to die for wow...
A neighbourhood gem. This restaurant exceeded my expectations for sushi, and made my experience in Buckhead a great one. The quality of the fish is fresh and unmatched to any other higher-end sushi restaurant I have been to. The ambiance is modern, and happening. Like others have said, be sure to try the spicy tuna crispy rice! I will definitely be returning when I am back in the Atlanta/Buckhead area.
Great experience! We had a party of 4 and we each got the Umi Omakase (chef selection soup, starter, sashimi plate, hot dish, assorted nigiri, dessert) for $100 per person. Definitely pricey, but it was a really good deal with a lot of food, and it was good quality food too. The fish tasted fresh and there really wasn’t a bad piece. The hot dish with the cooked fish was really delicious, but the sauce is what really made it. The sauce was so good. The service was great—our servers were very attentive, refilling our water and wine glasses anytime they got low. Worth celebrating special occasions here!
Just went here for the first time and was very impressed. Best sushi in Atlanta. Recommend sitting at the sushi bar. Chef Ito is very funny and fun to watch. I did not think the restaurant was overly loud at all as some others mentioned. Went for my girlfriends birthday and they really gave us a great experience. Service was on point the entire meal. We were seated immediately upon entering a packed restaurant with a reservation. Plates were removed as soon as they were finished. Will be back very soon.
Without question, this is the best sushi I've ever eaten. Went with some colleagues and I did not see the bill, but I know it definitely was not cheap. However, this is a case of "you get what you pay for". The food was fantastic, the service was excellent and the overall experience was top notch. If you are interested in uniqueness, tell the wait staff how many pieces you want and let the chef choose. Absolutely amazing. Our final 3 pieces were "time-sesnitive", and I've never eaten anything like it. Highly recommended!
Fantastic, best Sushi and sashimi I have ever had.
Beautiful food that tastes amazing! Closest to Japan I've had and a wonderful atmosphere to boot.
Really really good. The Persian inspired crunchy rice sushi was amazing.
BEST restaurant in Atlanta. The food here is UNBELIEVABLE. It is small and cozy restaurant. You must make a reservation because the place is ALWAYS full.
It was my first time trying out their sushi, and I had a good experience. Staffs were nice, and I enjoyed my dish. Interior looked nice and trendy. Pricey but good!
Food was very good and the chefs were friendly. I'm glad I sat at the bar away from some of the noisier groups as it does get rather loud. My wife and I enjoyed our time here.
Excellent attentions and very good meals, the portions are small but of very good quality, very good atmosphere to share with friends and family
This restaurant sets a bar that others only dream to obtain! Food, service, sake/wine menu...if you have a bad experience, reevaluate YOUR life choices. 12 years of the most amazing/reliable/inventive experiences allow me to make that claim. Followed the chef from MF Buckhead to his current masterpiece, and so glad that he continues to impress! Thank you all!
the place is small but who needs a big place to enjoy good sushi, the ingredients of very good quality and freshness, the first service since you enter the door very professional nice place if you want to spend a little more
Bougie and the ultimate service experience!
My favorite place for delicious japanese food. a preferred evening place. the bill won't shock you. kinda of like a cafe in phoenix that i enjoyed.
