Wow. I expected a great meal here and they still managed to beat my expectations. I had the smoked Peking duck, which was no less than outstanding. The service was second to none. Highly recommended and would definitely come back to try other dishes.

if you are Asian, don't expect too much. we ate Lobster fried rice and crispy beef. The foods was so so, not bad but if we think about the price... i can't say it is reasonable. If you are asian you maybe be able to find better similar food somewhere else.

Phyllis Goodman

Imaginative, delicious, beautifully presented dishes served by consummate professionals. Original. craft Cocktails are delicious.

The manager's "Southern Charm" left us at least 50 years ago when she turned into the creature from under the sea. At first I didn't understand how this restaurant was still in business. The poor customer service has been echoed by many before me at Poor Calvin's. Thankfully, the day was saved by the chef's outstanding talent and our server. Sylvia's brilliant knowledge of the menu and her personable wit won me over and the initial bad taste in my mouth from management was easily washed away by some of the most flavorful food I've had the pleasure to enjoy in the last few years. All 7 plates were beautifully presented and looked mouth-watering. The size of the servings were generous. Reservations strongly recommended. Management, your unwillingness to split a check in an attempt to force a 20% tip cost your server an additional $100's tonight. Owners, replace your management. We came for the excellent seafood, we didn't expect Ursula to greet us at the door.

This place is simply amazing. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to recommend food choices. Everything we ordered was outstanding. If I lived here I would become a regular at this restaurant. Warning the portions are large.

Martha Hunt

If you're visiting Atlanta for a short amount of time, this is the place to eat! Asian/Southern cuisine, a wonderful delight!! Tip: make a reservation! The wait can be long, so if you arrive without one you will be waiting. So while you wait (like we did) enjoy a nice refreshing cocktail drink. We had the spicy mango and it was great! There's definitely a kick to it, so be careful if you can't handle spicy stuff! The dishes were spectacular and service was great! We had the most friendliest waitress who gave the greatest recommendations.

Caroline Monge

Delicious food. Strong mimosas. Inventive food that will delight any foodie. Great place to have brunch with friends and if you could sit with LOLA the server (sha na na) you’re in for a treat !

T.J. Manley

Phenomenal food and atmosphere. Service is a bit slow but understandable for the amount of patrons.

Krutika Desai

Great food in a cozy atmosphere. Awesome service. Would definitely recommend this place.

Jen Ompod

I did not expect to find such amazing Asian food in Atlanta. My only wish was that I had more room in my belly. PS the pound cake for dessert was pandan flavored and had boozy butter pecan ice cream on top. Oh my glob!!! <3

Erinn Pearson

I didn't know what to expect I hadn't heard of this place. We tried the lobster ravioli and the basil rolls they were pretty good. But I must tell you the seafood curry with coconut brown rice is amazing! Large shrimp, scallops, lobster tail, mussels and calamari. That curry sauce is so good I wanted to drink it from the bowl. If you like the ginger flavor you must try the drink called "Pho". I would definitely order the seafood Curry and the pho drink again. The customer service was so great & everyone I passed was so friendly. I really wish I remembered the server's name.

melly

Great food nice portions and ambiance

This place is busy! So you might be disappointed if you try to drop in or are expecting a quiet restaurant. I had the seabass and the candy apple and they were both very delicious. Service was fairly fast once you are sitting down. Very active crowd inside. Area outside of restaurant is a little weird, maybe.

Can you believe I'm born and raised in Atlanta and this was my first trip to Poor Calvin's!? I know...what have I been doing with my life lol. We came here on a Tuesday evening not expecting it to be packed but it was! There was a 1-1.5 hr wait...MAKE A RESERVATION. The Drinks I had the lychee martini and my friend had the red sangria. Both were so amazing...lightly sweet, refreshing, not syrupy at all. I highly recommend! The Food My friend had the fried chicken entrée, and I had the seafood curry. The seafood curry is chock full of deliciousness...tons of vegetables like bell peppers, squash, and zucchini. Loaded with succulent scallops, plump shrimp, and juicy pineapple. My only complaint is that I did not care for the calamari, or the fact that you only get one bowl of rice. I wish the bowl had been bigger to sop up the curry broth... the rice was delicious. The Service All of the waitstaff are amazing, you can tell that they truly enjoy what they do. Even though the restaurant was very crowded and had a long wait, they were all very pleasant, friendly and kind. I will be

Lucille Shaw

The apps and drinks are amazing! The entrees were delish too! Large portions so sharing is an option. The deviled eggs were like no other eggs I've tasted before. Seabass, curried seafood was bomb!

J Dawn

2nd Time visiting Poor Calvin's with my husband to celebrate our anniversary and it was nothing short of AMAZING! My husband is VERY particular and stated that he can't recall a time he's been to a restaurant where everything was so flavorful! #winning #poorcalvins #goandbemerry

Dalton Clark

Food = amazing. Beer = amazing. Eclectic atmosphere and you must ask to be waited on by the Irish woman... she makes the entire experience and I feel awful I cant recall her name.

S Hardeman

The best lobster fried rice ever. There's nothing that I can say about the food it was unusual and truly Fusion. Everything was delicious I wish I could have eating more of the appetizers they were amazing.

Yu-Hsien Ho

The food was absolutely amazing. It's probably the best fried rice I've ever tasted. The basil seafood was also exemplary. Shrimp was huge. The space is small and busy but service was great. Thoroughly enjoyed my dinner there. Would definitely eat there again.

This is one of the highly rated places in Atlanta and usually there is a long wait without a reservation. I highly recommend getting a reservation before heading to this place. The food was pretty flavorful and presented very nicely, however, the vegetarian options are severly limited on the menu. I ordered a vegetable stir fry tofu -- and boy... Seemed like I was in for a treat of vegetables. Having said that, the vegetables ( and some tofu ) did have a good flavor. . They do have a lot of non vegetarian options, and my friends mentioned they liked their ordered non-veg dishes a lot. Especially for the price of dishes at this restaurant ( an average of roughly 22$), I had higher expectations from the quality of limited vegetarian options as well. It's worth a try once, but I doubt it would be on my list to try again. Overall it has a nice ambience and the servers are pretty cheerful as well. It is a small place though, so it does get pretty fully, and there is no place to wait or stand at the bar -- which can be pretty grueling in winters -- so do highly recommend a reservation.

Bev Nethers

Amazing dining experience. Can’t decide which was better the servers or the food. Both! Gotta have a smoked old fashion. Seafood dishes were outstanding, especially the salmon pad thai. Will definitely be returning on a regular basis!

Emily Chai

Great food choice, creative presentation, the indoor environment can be too loud and noisy.

Nicole Law

Service was amazing, food was divine! Everything tasted amazing from the drinks to the entree and dessert. This place never disappoints.

Kevin Pressley

Busy location... Make reservations. Great Staff ... Bartenders are exceptional and food is made very well may be a limited menu for some... but what they make they make it well...

Domino Deshae

This place is AMAZING...the people and atmosphere are AWESOME, (they even boxed our food for us), especially Rolando and Javani! They really took care of us and these margaritas are to die for, thanks for that extra kick! The food was sooo delicious and it was so appealing to the naked eye. We'll DEFINITELY be back (shot out to my chef friend for recommending this restaurant)!

Arlene Majuste

Absolutely amazing atmosphere! Came here for a friend’s birthday party and they did not disappoint! Sylvia, our waitress was absolutely amazing. From her awesome personality, to her impeccable knowledge of the menu, she kept us laughing and was so attentive the entire night. Carrie, the manager was so personable and was dedicated to making sure we enjoyed our experience. The food was absolutely divine! Everything was timely. We had another person join our party and they were immediately accommodating. I’ve been to many establishments but Poor Calvin’s not only sold me on their food and drink selection, but the experience. 10/10! Do yourself a favor and stop by for a visit.

travelaxation

I was three weeks on a road trip around the southern USA, now I can say: that is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten!!! High professional kitchen and really really good staff. Please make a reservation, it’s very popular! It was a very beautiful evening, thank you.

Eyisha Cooke

The food is excellent. The staff is beyond friendly. Love this place.

Joshua Tan

WORTH THE DISTANCE!! I like to try unique and local foods when travelling. While in Atlanta for business I had lunch at Poor Calvins. I had the chicken and waffles, mac (no lobster), and basil spring roll app. I found the food to be an amazing mix of asian flavors and southern comfort food. The cooking was extremely well done, plated well, and attentive service. This is a great destination and worth the few minutes to travel away from city center.

Karthik Chennupati

The food was amazing but it's a bit cluttered and there isn't enough space to accommodate everyone comfortably.

James Doe

Very good. Pork chop special was very good and unusual. Chop was perfectly cooked then grilled on the outside, on a bed of "loaded" mashed potatos. It then had layers of unexpected flavors - pearl onions that were infused, tiny tear drop shaped tomatoes, artichoke, etc. Peach cobbler with goat cheese was great - I hate goat cheese - but this was great. Six stars for food, -2 stars for putting a cardboard straw in my drink. Really? :)

Claire Dent

Joy was our waitress and she was awesome. Joy delivered exceptional customer service. All the food was amazing and the drinks were delicious as well.

ramiro fuentes

This place is great. That crispy beef

melanie araula

The best soul and Asian fusion around. Poor Calvin's has culinary arts down to a T. Brunch specials are affordable. And drinks are great. Beautiful atmosphere and bartender are swifty, quick and prompt.

L. B.

Pretty good drinks. Very good food. Lobster mac and cheese was excellent; I will return for more of that. Definitely make a reservation. Place gets packed!

Brad Knight

One of the most go to restaurant when you visit Atlanta. Great food, creative menu and superb service. We celebrated our daughter's birthday there recently and the staff was cooperative enough to make it a special occasion. Thank you guys for a great night. Will definitely be back soon.

Jada Carr

Delicious is an understatement for this place! When I went to look this place up on Yelp and saw that several friends who do and do not live in Atlanta have visited this place if give it great reviews, I knew this was a must! Seeing the reviews made it official from me! We visited because we have friends who moved here who wanted to meet up for a nice dinner, Hey I'm always down for a nice dinner right! This place was absolutely awesome! The inside was a little dark and cold so we chose to sit outside. It is so cutesy outdoors w small lanterns used as center pieces on the table that actually light up. The young lady that assisted us upon entering and our waitress were very kind. Our waitress knew the menu like the back of her hand and she knew every intricate detail/ ingredient!! She made every food item sound so great that we had to stop talking to her so that we could stop ordering stuff! I personally ordered the Lamb Chops and a Lavender Lemonade! The table ordered Grilled Australian Lambs Chops, Seafood Spring Rolls, Fried Chicken, Lavender Lemonade and their famous Lobster Fried Rice. Fantastically delicious on all food/ beverage items! Every food item looks like a creation from the Heavens! I would definitely visit this place again as well as recommend this place to anyone who's visiting Atlanta!

Latasha Thomas

I ordered the Duck. Wasn't impressed. Great, friendly greeting with valet. Should have started with that. Waitress was very knowledgeable of menu, which I love. But, she made EVERYthing sound tasty. Maybe I was hungry. I rarely order duck. Staff was pleasant

Nina Herring

It was great! We shared the lobster wontons, lobster mac and cheese, lobster fried rice, calamari, and lobster spring rolls!!!

Kim Culver

Service, food and drinks were on point. Their house made ginger beer though, was the best ever.

Tkslim Jones

Great place, food was excellent and services fantastic. Husband and I tried on May 31st, 2019 and truly enjoyed ourselves. Atmosphere was very intimate and pleasurable. Slightly expensive but plenty of food with great taste. So worth every cent. Highly recommended we will be returning ourselves. Our waiter (forgive my spelling) Olufemi was on point very professional, knew what he was doing and recommending food and drinks. Thanks for a great date night. Go try it and make a reservation!

Craig Spreha

This restaurant has many great appetizers and entrees. The fried goat cheese, the lobster Mac n cheese, the fried chicken filet and the been dinners are the best. However the Tom Yum is not so great, it's just a vegetable soup, blech. Other than that it's awesome.

Amanda Edward

Poor Calvin is definitely not POOR but worth the trip. Fried Green Tomatoes were little greasy, Tiger Coconut Shrimp was good, sauce could have been just a slight more flavorful and the piece of resistance... Lobster Fried Rice >>> Lobster tail is fried in a light tempura batter makes it succulent to taste (wish they had butter), the fried rice with fresh crunchy vegetables delicious spicy kick. Red Velvet Cake with Mascarpone and Tapioca Pearls taste unctuous freshness from the Mascarpone and fresh strawberries. (minus the mishap of spiders coming down from the ceiling) my Daughter recovered to finish Her cake. Hayes, waiter, is extremely helpful and knows the menu perfectly!

J Cooper

Delicious! I had the pho cocktail and it was SO good! My partner ordered the dark and stormy and their house gingerbeer was so spicy and wonderful. Ordered the frog legs and basil rolls for appetizer, the Siam duck and Australian lamb entree, and the pound cake dessert. Everything was great, the patio was nice, and our servers were so wonderful. I can’t wait to go back!

Terry Williams

Overly regulated by wait staff. We weMre placed on a time limit before we sat down. CROWDED, loud and food ,even though presented beautifully, was lacking. Not my favorite place to eat or hang out.

G Lewis

It's small in stature but they go BIG on everything else. This was hands down the best meal we had while visiting Atlanta. I cant wait to come again.

Dirmary Torres

Amazing atmosphere, and staff! The food and drinks are divine. Our waitress was Jenny and we absolutely love her! She knew exactly what we wanted and was two steps ahead of us the entire time. They even made sure that we got back to our hotel safely with complimentary uber. Absolutely phenomenal.

Nadia Smith

Everything was so delicious and well seasoned. My friends and I ordered the crab fries, spring rolls, hushpuppies, and beignets for appetizers. The crab fries were topped with crabmeat and melted cheese. The hushpuppies were filled with shrimp and corn and absolutely amazing. The beignets were to die for! If you are pondering what beverage to order, get the sangria. It is all kinds of fruity deliciousness

Haley Everson

Pineapple Fried Rice is delicious! Parking can get tricky and service has a tendency to be a bit on the slow side when they are busy on a weekend but overall, great place to try in ATL!

Alex Rupple

First time in Atl and poor Calvin's hit the spot like none other. Hootie hoo

Ms Dorsey

My experience was just okay... I made reservations & that helped tremendously. The customer service was awesome & the ambience was nice. My food looked very pretty but could have used some seasoning... the lobster & rice were bland. I'd give them another try because I really enjoyed myself & hopefully be able to add more stars.

Jonathan Watson

best meal in a long time. please try the lobster wontons, holy delicious. can't say enough.

Herman Wilson

The food was good(B average) but the 20% gratuity added to the bill is very distasteful Nowhere on their menu nor website displays this policy. As an employee of a major credit card company, this practice should not tolerated and can cause their establishment major problems and fines if reported.

Teonn Brooks

It's hard to pick a favorite dish here because everything is so good. You can't go wrong with the lobster fried rice, crispy beef or fried chicken. And the sangria is on point!

Rhya Bleser

Very loud and very crowded. Visited this place for a late dinner on a Wednesday night. The place was packed and very trendy in Atlanta. Despite the crowding and the noise, the service is awesome and the people are so friendly. You can tell that they enjoy their job! The food is very good and so flavorful. We had ordered every appetizer and multiple main courses. Out of them all, I recommend the pork dumplings, beef tips (this is their only beef item on the menu), or the pad Thai. The presentation of the food is exquisite. Huge perk: they booked us a complimentary Uber home for us!

Rosemarie Wallace

The food and service at Poor Calvin's was amazing. Not too many places offer any options for Vegans and we were able to find amazing options. My other daughter was also in search of good southern food and she really enjoyed her fried chicken, mac and cheese and collard greens. They told us the wait was going to be 1 hour but we waited and was seated within 1/2 hour. Definitely worth the trip if you are ever in ATL and make sure you say hi to Slyvia

Denise Mayhan

Amazing, unique food choices, great variety. Service was on point. Highly recommend.

Victoria Spencer Smith

Wow Fantastic Midtown breakfast / bunch spot with the sweetest people to meet you...

A Walker

Ate here last night with 2 friends visiting from out of town. It wasn't my first choice, but my friends suggested it and hospitality rules right? You couldn't buy a personality or a smile from the hostess and the policy that your entire party has to be present before they will seat you is ridiculous. 2 of us were present. If that's even the policy. I had the fried chicken, lobster mac and cheese & greens. The M&C was tasty and the only thing i ate on the plate. The greens were not to my liking and the chicken was a little dry. I won't be back.

Mike B

Had the lobster wontons and duck. I felt like the wontons were a little over for my taste but I liked the firm crunch. The lobster filling was decadent and accompanied by a few sauces that mixed well. The Siam duck was one of the most delicious and flawless meals I’ve ever had. The duck skin and fat was perfectly crisped and a little smoky, while the meat was tender inside. It was paired with a sauce and delightful mix of vegetables, all of which made me a little upset that I’m from out of town and can’t eat this every day. Unrelated to the meal, the staff was excellent. Our server was polite and could also recite poetic descriptions of every menu item, which is deeply impressive. The host was very friendly as and maybe unrelated, was wearing this red Asian inspired ensemble that looked totally fierce. A great time was had by all.

Kendra Guzman

I am came here while on a business trip from Maryland and did not have reservations. We were told there would be a 30-45 minute wait. After waiting for 45 minutes, the host came and told us he could seat us but we would have to hurry up and be up from the table by 830pm because of reservations. He said he would give us a minute to think about it. He walked away. He comes back a few minutes later and says he needs an answer immediately because he is about to give the table away and we have to decide now. Never in my life have I ever felt so mistreated and disrespected in an establishment. I understand restaurants have reservations but they should also allot time for walk in patrons. If there was no room at all for any one else outside of reservations, we should have been advised to dine elsewhere. This was my FIRST TIME AND MY LAST TIME ever coming to Poor Calvin's. Maybe Calvin should spend some money on training his staff on how to treat people.

Faith Middlebrooks

If zero stars were an option I would have done that. I loved this place before. (Obviously before I saw the 57 U grade for a health score before that was handled.) However, tonight was a totally different story. Initially, my friend ordered a drink to which the bar tender picked up the ice cubes with her bare hands. The (what i then found out was the manager... James) had an attitude about her asking for new ice... told the bartender to just get the ice out the middle and call it a day. Then we later found out that everything is cross contaminated with shellfish... when I said I wish I had known that or that it was on the website, James the manager proceeded to say that they market themselves as a seafood restaurant (I saw Asian on google and Asian fusion with southern influences on the website.... it could be somewhere but maybe I'm wrong). The only option that is not cross contaminated with shellfish is the vegan curry option. Had his attitude been any type of gracious, respectful, apologetic... I would have politely thanked him and decided whether my mother, the person with the shellfish allergy, wanted to stay. But after his attitude I refuse. Upon leaving, James the manager said have a good day ma'am. I did not verbally respond. He then proceed to shout HAVE A GOOD DAY MA'AM as if to be sarcastic and rude once again. This is not about the food, however, the customer service. That's what speaks volumes about your establishment... and today I heard nothing that would make me wish to return.

Cody Jung

Had 1 bad experience , but they were extremely rapid and over corrected more than I could of hoped for. I give huge praise to the chef and the staff, top notch service and food. The ability to plate amazing artscapes with the ingredients is the cherry on top of the well prepared and managed flavors of each dish. Definitely a must go for any foodies in the area who also want to support the local suppliers.

B Ward

We had the crispy beef, fried chicken, and lobster wontons. Everything was amazing from the delicious food to the friendliest staff!!

Akshay Joshi

Poor Calvin's is an Asian fusion place a little off the hustle bustle of Peachtree St. It's still walking distance from BoA tower and a popular place for lunch. Apart from the standard fare, there are specials on the menu. The appetizers are great, enough for two if you are taking an entree. Some dishes are sweet, so read carefully. The servers are courteous and friendly, however the service is slow at peak hours. The appetizers were brought fairly quickly. Expect a big portion for your entree with a lot tasty veggies thrown in.

Mark Vaughan

Loved it..! We were intrigued by the concept of Asian "Southern" fusion and the positive reviews, so we gave Poor Calvin's a try during a recent visit to Georgia Tech. Everyone was blown away by the food and the service. It was a bit loud, but you will enjoy it... my favorite was the fried chicken and lobster mac. I'll be back!

Philip Christian

Server was very friendly and extremely helpful. Excellent experience! Highly recommend. Food and drinks are outstanding!

UnclePhil

Food, and atmosphere were amazing! Our bartenders Hailey & Dave was super nice, informative, and made our experience a cut above!

Colten Caudle

Very trendy restaurant. A bit expensive, but the food is worth it. I got the "Duck Dynasty", which has duck and lobster. The duck was the best I've had, ever. The lobster was decent, but could have been better. Presentation and service is top notch. I would make a reservation, but they do have a bar and a community table.

Matt Heck

Can't recommend this place enough. A+ service, they have it down. Sat at the bar. Great recommendations on drinks. I believe the menu changes frequently, but since had the grouper (pictured). It was fantastic. Definitely put this towards the top of your list, especially if you are staying nearby. Way better than anything you'll get at the hotel.

Keki B

Poor Calvin's is one of the best spots in Atlanta!! Food is exquisite, ambiance is eclectic, service is outstanding and the memories you make are priceless! Me and my parents went here to celebrate family and love and our server Linda was delightful and full of energy! An incredible experience and I can't wait to go back again.......and again........and again.....

Anthony davis

Great food and atmosphere. David is a mixologist with the drinks. Wife love it. Service is too notch

K Sherman

Loved the food. I had the mac and cheese, fried chicken and greens. It was amazing.

Blaqque Barbie

mechellebrandi

Miss Dallas

Absolutely amazing food and ambiance! Currently my favorite place to take anyone who visits! Great kick off to My birthday. Must try the Crab Grilled Cheese and Lobster Rice and seafood rolls... ok the entire menu is delectable!

Gavin Lo

Food and service is good, but the food is really heavy. Make sure you're hungry become coming here.

Shawndra DB

They are hit and miss for me (sometimes I enjoy my meal, sometimes not; I should probably stick to what I KNOW is good because I am a picky eater, so venturing out doesn't always go well for me). The lobster fried rice is superb

Leatrice Singleton

The food, staff, matured crown and overall ambiance was delightful!!! I’d recommend that any party of people can wine, dine & enjoy!

Tee Dee

This was my first time. Food was super yummy. We had calamari (not too chewy and made with a light cornmeal coat), seafood spring rolls (with great mango sauce), and the duck with lobster tail. All was amazing. Service was superb. I'll go back and take more friends!

Nett G

Oh my goodness! Love this place! Do yourself a favor and order the calamari as an appetizer (ask for an extra side of the aioli for dipping) then get the lobster fried rice for your meal. Sooooo good!!! If you want a drink I'd recommend the lychee martini. I can't wait to go back and have it again!

Gwendolyn Pinero

First TIME here and the entire experience was remarkable. Service, food, prices, quantity was remarkable. Will return and recommend to all.

Amanda Worley

Amazing food and service! Just happened across this place, and it did not disappoint. We will definitely come back when we are in the Atlanta area.

Mur B

Good was good, typical fusion food. I had Pad Thai Shrimp and I found the sauce to be a bit overpowering. We went for lunch on a Tuesday and it was busy. A bit loud so I found myself leaning over the table and almost shouting to try to have a conversation with my friends. Parking was limited in the parking lot so we ended up parking on the street and it wasnt too bad. The server was nice but honestly he was busy so I didn't see him much. Overall, I enjoyed the meal but I probably won't go back in the immediate future.

Nathan Giullian

To be completely honest, I was taken back by the prices at first. Now while I still think this place is too expensive to go to on a regular basis, I was very pleased with how good the food was. I loved the friend chicken and the collered greens were the best I have ever had. I will come here again next time I'm in Atlanta.

Morgan Folsom

Amazing!! We were recommended here and truly ordered almost everything! The chicken, the beef, the Mac, the lobster, the rice, the wontons, the dumplings, AND the red velvet cake holy cow everything was perfect! The atmosphere was so cozy and artistic we really enjoyed sampling their menu!

Tammie Fulton

Love the food, drinks and service

Sonny Childs

Amazing food, amazing bartenders, amazing cocktails. Seriously one of the best meals I've had in many months. Everything we tried was executed well, great array of flavors. The service was great, even considering how busy they were and the fact that we sat at the bar. The greens were probably the best I've ever had.

Matt McClendon

Neat little place with not a lot of parking. The menu is eclectic to be sure, and pretty inventive. Deviled eggs are great, but the lobster Mac and cheese with fried chicken breast didn't really live up to my expectations. I'd suggest giving it a try in the evening rather than lunch to take advantage of the bar a little better.

Michael Crew

Very eclectic place and food. Check out website. Menu has a few really interesting choices. Pineapple fried shrimp was unique and delicious. Limited parking, valet during selected times.

Ches Lysov

Oh my God to be honest don't even have a words to describe the food in this incredible restaurant. Lola is the coolest, and funniest person I've ever met... Sha-na-na.. Poor Calvin's is the heart of Atlanta if you haven't been there, you haven't been to Atlanta. Didn't even think of getting the food of such and amazing quality, flavor and plate design. Everything is just perfect and must have. Already planning our next trip to Atlanta with 2 diners at Poor Calvin's at least!!! Thank you guys, you are amazing!

Shar Call

What bad can you say about Poor Calvins? The food is always amazing with a chic vibe in the restaurant. The drinks are great too, with different crafted drinks that I wouldn't have thought of. My intention is to continue trying things on the menu...(one of my favorites is the crab meat grilled cheese...and the pineapple fried rice...and the...you know what, just try everything.)

Crystal Turner

Had been waiting to try PC's Brunch, but I was highly disappointed. Lobster wontons and cocktail were the best part of the meal. Seafood Omelet was loaded with ingredients but lacked flavor..added a fried lobster tail and it too lacked seasoning. Will not be back to waste another $65.

Queen I

This food is DEELISH!!! Definitely added to one of my all time favorite places to eat when I come to Atlanta! Had the lobster Mac n cheese and the lamb chops. It was Soo succulent and tasty and seasoned so well. I love this place!.

The Most Interesting Man

Excellent comfort food. Lots of personality.

Alice Millward

The food was exceptional as was Nikita who waited on us. We will go here again next time we come to Atlanta!

Giselle LP

This is a must when in Atlanta. An absolutely perfect foodie paradise experience. You've never had Asian noodles this delicious outside of the best Chinese restaurants, grilled salmon this good, lobster fried rice this addictive, and on and on. Everything on the menu is a home run. You also can't leave without dessert. The hostess, bartenders & wait staff all go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

DaJuana Barnett

The service was great, the food was delicious. The restaurant is small and it was crowded. Self parking is a hassle but they offer Valet and it's best to make a reservation.

Travis Dugan Jr

5 star restaurant. GREAT food , atmosphere. 4 stars because outside seating has NO shading . Can drive away many potential customers

Toyita J

Calamari was magical. Lobster wontons were great. Drinks were awesome. We wanted to sit outside but later changed our mind as we sat at the bar waiting for a table to open up and glad we did. It was amazing watching how fast, friendly, and efficient the staff was. Can’t wait to return again!

Randall Raymond

CONTRARY TO WHAT GOOGLE MAPS TELLS YOU, POOR CALVIN’S SERVES LUNCH! I haven’t been to every restaurant in Atlanta, but I’ve been to a lot, and Poor Calvin’s is by far the best I’ve experienced. The food is excellent, the service is fantastic, and the atmosphere is fun. The menu changes, so I can’t tell you what to order, but everything I’ve ordered has been wonderful. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful. The clientele is mostly younger people (20s & 30s) but the waitstaff is even nice to old farts like me. About the only thing I could complain about is that service is somewhat slow, though this is understandable as it is usually very busy. Because it is usually busy, I would strongly recommend making a reservation.

Wendy Graham

Excellent service . Food better that excellent. Meat done perfectly. You must go there no matter How long you are in the ATL !!!

Taiheem Wentt

Amazing food, drinks and customer service. The servers mad us more hungry with such in depth good descriptions. A1 restaurant!!!!

The food is delicious. Dinner can be a bit pricey but it’s well worth it. The lobster fried rice and lobster Mac and cheese are superb. The winner was dessert. That bourbon ice cream with pound cake was phenomenal (not sure that it’s always available as they have no dessert menu). Best restaurant dessert I’ve had in a very long time.

Took forever to get seated, couldn't figure out if they could or not. Prices are over priced but portions are on the larger side. Dishes are hit or miss.

My favorite place to eat. I fall in love every time I dine hear. My sister decided to move to GA because of how good the food is in this restaurant!

Shawna Briggs

Excellent! The fried grouper was out of this world.

Glad I was finally able to make it here. This place is pretty busy so make sure to make a reservation. We ordered the lobster fried rice and a scallop risotto special. I also order the lychee martini. Everything was good. I really enjoyed the food.

Amazing food and friendly staff.

This place is an absolute gem! It is more Asian than southern oriented. The food was amazing, from the seafood curry to the lobster pad Thai! The desserts were delicious and the waitress (Linda) was incredibly knowledgeable of all their plates describing the different tastes in details! The service was as good as the food!

The atmosphere at Poor Calvin's was very welcoming and the wait staff were very prompt and courteous. I ordered the shrimp spring rolls as an appetizer, the shrimp was cooked to perfection and the spring rolls had the exact level of crispness. The presentation of the fried chicken dinner fish was beautiful, the lobster mac and cheese was delicious and the collard greens has a pleasently unique taste. The chicken wasn't as robust as I'd expected, due to it being marinaded overnight, however the favors were playful. Overall, my experience at Poor Calvin's was well worth the 1/2 mile walk, it was a nice stroll! I look forward to exploring additional items on the menu when I return to Atlanta.

The only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars is for the desserts and the waiter who was exceptionally patient with our table. I was seriously underwhelmed by the rest of my meal. I ordered Thai Curry Chicken with a side of fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes were mushy on the bottom with oil, and the breading tasted like it was just soaked in oil; they didn't taste good at all. The Thai Curry Chicken had pineapple bits in it that were a weird (not tasty) surprise to find. The chicken had no taste, and actually tasted like they'd boiled it without any seasonings; it was like chewing through rubber. I ended up just eating the jasmine rice with the curry sauce and squash, and leaving everything else in the bowl. The lavender lemonade was tasty and tart, a very good combination. Our waiter was so patient with our table, answering questions about ingredients (we had several food allergies present), and constantly making sure we had what we needed. The desserts were HUGE and DELICIOUS. I had no idea the dessert would be so huge, it was large enough to share with 6 people. I recommend Poor Calvin's as a nice spot to have a dessert.

Upon arrival, we had a party of three. Greeted and seated with no fuss even though it was busy. Our table ordered the Siam duck, the curry seafood and the crispy beef. The duck and the seafood curry were both very good; albeit a tad sweet for my liking. The crispy beef left a lot to be desired. It was nearly beef jerky consistency which made it impossible to eat. Sounded good but there's no way it's a practical meal. Definitely on the pricer side for what you're getting Like several other reviews, the food was made out to sound better than it is to an extent. Good service

Oleg Grynivetskyi

Love the drinks and food. We got about 5 appetizers they were all good. The drinks were very well made. The ambiance is nice with lovely people around.

Great energy, friendly staff!!! Cuisine fusion, very enjoyable!!! Tom Yum Soup, Yummy!!! Basil roll refreshing, sauce not My fav but limited amt.

Awesome service from the bartender, to the server and her trainee to the manager who took excellent care of our group of 4 birthday girls! The food was excellent. I shared the lobster mac and cheese and my entree was the seafood curry with jasmine rice. The portions are really large so even though prices are a tad on the high side, I think I have two more meals in my fridge. I can't wait to return and try more from the menu. Everything looked so good! Thanks for a fun night and great birthday dinner!! :)

Quintanna Terry

Good drinks, great food, nice vibe but really small so it gets packed very easily! Make reservations or be prepared to wait. Our server was Jenny, she was super nice & cute. I had the shrimp & sausage cheese grits...it was perfectly seasoned!

Bernard Suber

The cocktails are on point and very good service. I also had the Duck Dynasty. The duck, mashed potatoes and vegetables were so good I treated the lobster like an afterthought.

Stephen Spencer

The food is amazing, everything we ordered was amazing and the presentation was great. It was good enough for us to come two days in a row

Neressa Brown

Me and my friend went to Poor Calvin's and the service was terrible, the manager James was very rude and none professional. I would never recommend this place to anyone. He was not very helpful and insulted us. He should not be a Manager. Very Disappointed

Dwayne E Cousar

Food was excellent and our waitress Mis. Lola was Simply Divine

Nikki Gee

Went today for lunch had a cool experience with the staff as far as being greeted and seated! The issue came in with the food. The food was greasy and the taste was meh. We ordered the coconut shrimp and the spring rolls. The food came extremely quick which was a good thing. Yet, it makes me wonder if they just rushed it? My meal was the grilled cheese with crab meat and it came with salad and sauce and some extra stuff. I told our waitress I did not want the salad. At no point in time did she explain to us that this restaurant does not do substitutions, exchanges, or refunds. The food was gross-the dressing from the salad was all over the grilled cheese and it tasted horrible. She was a nice person and I still tipped her however She should have explained their policy before we ordered anything. This place is wack and it holds the same no exchange values as the restaurants overseas. Buyer beware.

Marnique Thompson

First time here and everything was absolutely amazing. There is a long wait time so I strongly suggest you make reservations. My sister and I ordered cocktails while we waited. She had the the Pho and I had the old fashion. Both drinks we delicious and filled with lots of flavor. For an appetizer I ordered the lobster wontons. They were absolutely amazing. For my meal I ordered the seafood curry which was delicious and my sister had the lobster fried rice. The staff was so nice as well although it was very chaotic with it being so crowded. James the manager was extremely helpful and kind. I will definitely be coming back.

My boyfriend and I ate here last evening for a fancy date night. He lives just down the street, and we always smell wonderful food from outside its walls. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with friendly and courteous staff and we're immediately seated (with a reservation). Line was out the door, so if you want to eat timely on the weekend be sure to call ahead and reserve. The atmosphere was cramped but cozy with an ecclectic aesthetic pleasing to the senses. A bit on the loud side, but that didn't deter us much. Waiter was delightfully helpful in his entrée recommendations. The sea bass and seafood curry were delicious! The cocktails were artfully made and equally tasty. The only downside was that we felt a bit rushed from our table toward the end of the meal - we usually prefer 2-3 hours for a formal dinner - but I also know that most US restaurants operate on customer turnover. We had also wanted coffee after our meal, but were told that they could not find any coffee mugs. Other than that, a generally good experience. Would recommend and hope to return soon!

Some of the best brunch food I’ve had in ATL! Small space, but if you can grab a table, it’s some great Asian infused cuisine to try! Reasonable pricing as well.

Gabriel Pak

AWESOME cocktails and cool concept. We enjoyed the food but it is definitely a non traditional approach at Asian food. We got the soft shelled crab pad Thai and duck/lobster tail. Both dishes were tasty but honestly felt like they were trying too hard to make some of these combos work and the flavors didn't necessarily go well together. Still an enjoyable experience that we would recommend

Daniel Raimondo-

Unbelievable Dorian Huriccane brought us to Atlanta but over 2000 reviews at 4.5 stars brought us to Poor Calvin's. The service is first class and the food is delicious. The Leeche Marinas were the best and the desserts are beyond belief and I am not a dessert person.

Lori Stethers

Excellent experience all around. I highly recommend this reataurant. We sat at the bar for appetizers and dessert and had friendly and attentive service from the bar staff with regular but unobtrusive checkins on whether we needed anything. The deviled eggs were amazing and so original, unlike anything I have ever had before. My dinner partner got dumplings that were a daily special and she loved them. We split a peach dessert that was sort of like an empanada, but again very original. We devoured it and considered ordering another! The cakes in the dessert case looked impressive as well. Loved this restaurant so much I got takeout from them the next day on my way out of town as I headed back home!

TUNITA DUMAS

Service was very very very very slow!! This lady kept saying sha- na- na in a high pitched voice. The food overall was cooked pretty good, but the lobster fried rice; I felt was under seasoned. If you do not make a reservation your wait time will be as long as it took for us to get our food. (Over an hour and 36 minutes). Calamari was really good, seafood egg rolls were pretty good( small), and the omelet was very good. Lemonade was disappointing ( not fresh with sticks in it) fruit punch was 10 times better. I will go back and try other foods, only when I have absolutely nothing to do.

Jack Kohanim

There are a lot of good restaurants in Atlanta, but I can't see this one not being the best. We had the best dinner. The lobster wontons are a must. We had a few of the entrees, excellent.

Eric Erks

Excellent food! Impeccable service! But the best art was hanging at the bar watching Rolondo mixing awesome drinks!

Tracie Powell

Love everything about this place! The fried chicken with lobster mac was EVERYTHING!!

Philip Manwaring

Outstanding original menu. Everything very well prepared and absolutely delicious. Friendly service. Beautiful airy dining areas with large windows. Parking limited, but valet service available for dinner. The chef makes his own cake creations for dessert and they're melt in the mouth awesome.

Charlie Williamson

I got the crab grilled cheese and it was really great. The chef has a clear love for mustard for some reason but it doesnt hinder the experience at all. The service is absolutely wonderful and sitting at the booth leads to a show to behold

Jaumel Farley

Great food and great service!!!

Regina M

I had the Fried Chicken Pad Thai and a dessert that involved an awesome pound cake that I cannot begin to describe except to say that it was one of the best desserts I've had. Delectable!

Bridget Frederick

Great service. Love the food and portions. Will go back again!

Jocelyn Morris

This place was amazing. Great food. Will definitely be returning.

Curtis Carmichael

Great spot with better food than I imagined. The aesthetics are a cool vibe. It does get packed fast with limited seating for how popular it is. I recommend always making a reservation.

Michael Parry

Excellent food and drinks. Unique flavors. Massive desserts. Knoesgable waitataff with good service. Not to be missed if in the area!

First visited this place a 5 years ago during ATL restaurant week and enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Have told all of my friends when visiting to try it out. Visited again with my sister over the Memorial Day weekend. When the check came there was apparently some mix-up and MY CREDIT CARD WAS GIVEN TO SOMEONE ELSE. To say the least I was irate, but not before being asked to stand outside while they sorted it out. I was told that it would take about 20 minutes for the card to be returned which took 45 minutes. The 'manager / part-owner' refused to take any responsibility for the issue and said he would take care of the bill which was nice, but when I asked for the owners information to explain my concern, he refused. To add insult to injury, today in checking my card from the trip, the charge cleared and there was no refund. Be very careful! This place is busy and apparently credit card handling is not one of their strong suits. Needless to say, I won't be back.

Darius

If you don't have a reservation you might have to wait a pretty long time. But the food was good. It was kinda cramped in there but we had a good time. The hostess let us wait inside to wait for our shuttle which was very nice of her.

Jimmy Bailey

Google told me $$ out of 4. That's usually $15-25/plate. This is incorrect on Google. The average price is $25-$40 per plate. I cannot find a way to update this on Google. However, the food was amazing.

Elizabeth Allen

First - make a reservation. Second - go hungry because you want to fill your belly with as much of this delicious food as you can. Everything we ate was great, but the dessert made me want to slap someone! For appetizers, our table ordered: chicken and pork dumplings, basil rolls, deviled eggs. My entree was the lobster fried rice! absolutely delish! the food was so fresh. Other entrees at our table were the following plates: fried chicken, crispy beef, and the crabmeat grilled cheese. We took the desserts for later, which were the Fuji Apple and the suspension cake. I almost lost my mind when I tasted these desserts. Hands down, go to Poor Calvin's...You won't regret it!

Myles Stupp

Shanana baybeeee divoiiinee! Seriously good service food and drinks.

Deborah Turner

Very trendy place, server was nice and helpful. Food was wonderful, very creative mix of asian fusion! Atmosphere felt light and fun. Also sangria was excellent

Mireille Etienne

Second time here and I love it. Food and drinks were great. A little pricey but worth it

Valentines Dae

Small place but the food has big flavor and the staff has big personalities especially the waitress Sha Na Na. Pineapple shrimp fried rice is good but the fried chicken and lobster mac is even better. The beignets are to die for! They are like flaky grand biscuits... each layer with the mascarpone dip, hmmm! Drinks are good too. Kind of expensive but hey treat yourself every now and then. Also be sure to make a reservation.

Whitney Griffn

Delicious!! Every single thing I had was soo good. From the appetizer, to my main dish and desert. Oh and the drinks were unique but also delicious. Apparently everyone knows how good this place is because if you don't make a reservation, your wait will be long

Josiah Cortez

My top location for delicious asian food. got there about three, it wasn't crowded. certainly worth a return trip. this place has a good atmosphere.

David Roy

I have never been so disappointed in my life with a restaurant. We were seated and told to hurry up because someone had reserved our table. My wife requested plasticware and was told it was not allowed at the tables. We ordered from the to go menu and I wanted an extra piece of chicken and they said poor calvin would only allow the meal as is one piece of chicken. Poor calvin was poor never again.

Nola B

The other evening I came into Poor Calvin’s and I was very disappointed in the service I sat at the bar for approximately 6/7 mins without being properly greeted. Then when I asked James about the special he told me to hold on & decided to serve someone else before telling me the special. When I usually come in there the bartenders and servers know the special off the top of their head. It took forever to get my drink since he was the only bartender the service was slow. I usually have a wonderful experience when I come to PC I’ve been coming there for years but this time the energy & vibe was off. The food was delicious as a always.

Bhavna Patel

I was from out of town, went there by myself straight from the airport, sat a the bar, had the best drinks, chatted with the very charming bartender, had such amazing food, and was welcomed by all who were seated next to me throughout the evening. Atlanta, I look forward to coming back, and Poor Calvin's will be my first stop.

Taunja Patillo

The server was great and very knowledgeable of the food.

Alex Khayat

Great atmosphere. Great service. Fantastic food. We had the fried rice and lobster tail. Very delicious. It is a bit rich, so expect a definite souther style fusion on this dish.

Foougie

Everyone from my party of 4 enjoyed their meals. Our server was great. He had great energy. He was patient. Answered dish related questions confidently. My 3 stars are strictly for the cost. I can't recall the name of my dish but it was shrimp, veggies & white rice. Yes, it was yummy but for 17.50...
