This is such a wonderful place. My daughter wanted to celebrate her 18th birthday here and have dessert in the cafe. We were not disappointed! We were treated like royalty, as were our "girls". The staff is knowledgeable and kind, and the chocolate cake was out of this world!!!

Brought out 9 year old here for her birthday. We had tea in the cafe as a family and no detail was overlooked. They had cute chairs that attached to the table for the dolls to sit in and each doll had it's own place setting. They placed a little basket of questions to ask each other while waiting for the tower of treats to come out.

This store is like heaven for my little daughter, every time we go to Chicago she insists that we come here. Nice open layout to the store so you can easily look around even when it's busy and friendly employees. They have a few areas under construction (2019) so it should be even better soon. It would be nice if they would add an interactive area where the kids could spend a little more time.

Ask for various dining options and pricing before making a reservation. Shop and browse the store or enjoy the doll salon experience. Options are limited only by budget. Still a great place to browse and play with AG toys.

The cafe food is average and pricey, however the experience and the memories are worth it for the joy on my daughters' faces! The store is huge and we loved that many of the doll displays in the store were interactive!

We went to pick out my daughter's first American Girl Doll for her birthday. The experience did not disappoint. We looked at all of the dolls and played with all the interactive displays. My daughter took her time looking around and eventually chose Blaire Wilson. We purchased the doll and then headed upstairs where there were even more displays. You can checkout the Wellie Wishers, the Bitty Babies and the Just Like Me dolls. On the way to the cafe, you can also get your doll's hair done and her ears pierced. We had lunch at the cafe and it was everything a young girl could hope for.

We always bring our girls to get their first doll for their 5th birthdays. We are the proud owners of Rebecca and Samantha for our older girls. Our fresh 5 year old picked Mary Ellen! I absolutely love the displays they have for each girl! Its so much fun to walk through the store. We got lucky and hit a good book sale. For only a dollar each, we got the books for every girl!! Easily saved over $100 on books alone!!

Came from out of state for our youngest daughter's birthday. Made brunch and doll salon reservations. Our daughters were starry-eyed and excited as soon as we walked in the doors. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. They sang happy birthday to her at brunch, the girls got little cups and plates for their dolls to take home, as well as hair ties, and the food was cute and tasty. At the doll salon she picked a hairstyle and colored extensions for her Wellie Wisher doll, and doll got her ears pierced. They were sad to leave!

I called to book a birthday party for my 9 year old daughter. I had reviewed the pricing and was aware that the basic and most inexpensive party package was $30 a child. Fine. I'm gonna have 10 kids, so $300 is what I expected. When they told me I had to pay $20 for adult to simply attend the party, not even eating, I declined to book the party. That's insane.

We loved the look of the store. My daughter & I stopped in as we were passing by. We weren’t planning to shop there, therefore we weren’t looking our best. We were not acknowledge while shopping. Two separate employees talked to each other & two other people (just saying hello) No one even said, hi, welcome anything to us. I witnessed none of the employees actually engaging with the clients. This is a store that should be all about servicing clients and wowing them. They failed in that department. This is a direct reflection of the store manager of this location.

American Girl is a fun must see on Michigan Avenue if you have children with you. While it can be a little overwhelming, both in size (and price point), we love looking around over and over. The first floor is fun to explore the BeForever dolls with historical story lines. While you can dine with your doll upstairs at the American Girl Cafe. You can even borrow a doll if you forgot yours. They also have the prettiest and cleanest bathroom in Water Tower Place.

Personally I did not enjoy this place, mainly because it smacks of materialism & consumerism. Having said that, I know little people who loved what they saw in the photos I took! I like that the dolls have names that might resemble something from the state they come from e.g. Melodie comes from Detroit, Michigan.

We are eating at the Breakfast with Santa in the Bistro. The food is good but the portions are limited. Eat a snack before you come.

I have never experienced customer service so poor. I placed an order online with American Girl. Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong doll. There’s no way to cancel an order online, so I called. Over the phone, I was told that their company policy is “they do not cancel orders.” After speaking with the manager, I was told that they would “send an email requesting it be canceled, it would take a minimum of 24 hours, and there’s a 50-50 shot for cancellation.” I have never seen a company this large so desperate for $60. Why in the world would you not have a simple cancellation policy? I can understand if the package has shipped but this was literally within 30 minutes of the order. No shipping had occurred. Atrocious customer service, built on a nickel and dime model.

Terrible Restaurant Service. I called to ask for a reservation for 8 people for a lunch or dinner service. I was told there was only one date in the two week period in which I was looking to dine that could accommodate a large party. I booked for a Thursday night. When we arrived we were only one of three tables eating. Shortly after arriving the other parties left and we were the ONLY diners in the entire restaurant for a 5:30 dinner service. It made it very hard to believe that every other lunch and dinner were completely booked in a two week span! Our waitress was very slow, very forgetful, and was rather unresponsive considering we were the ONLY guests in the entire establishment. It took three times to ask for mini plates and cups for the dolls at the table, was not offered refills on our water or soft drinks, and in general was not helpful in explaining the menu or welcoming us. After paying a few HUNDRED dollars for dinner and dessert I would have expected a higher caliber experience. Overall we felt very let down and disappointed. We didn't want to tip our waitress, but we aren't the type to stiff wait staff, but she definitely didn't deserve the 20% we graciously gave her. My recommendation would be to shop the store, experience all the wonderful displays and visual merchandising, but skip the restaurant. It was not the magical experience we were promised when booking our reservation.

What doll loving little girl would not love this store? 2 floors of nothing but dolls, accessories...anything you could imagine. I have just as much fun as my daughter. The dolls are not only adorable, but they also tell a story. You can get as creative as you want.

Forget about Disney World for most girls this is the happiest place on earth! I got Lea Clark Girl of the Year 2016 here and my sister was looking for a Truly Me that looked like here and one of the workers helped her find one that looked almost like her! We LOVE American Girl and wanted to stay at the store forever! We almost spent a whole day here!

This was my daughter's (and my) 1st experience at the American girl Store. We were on our way to Atlanta (from Huntsville Alabama)for her brother's taekwondo tournament. She brought her Girl of the year 2018 Luciana with her and her doll had on a homemade dress that I had purchased on a different sight, when we got to the hair salon for our appointment which we made over the phone the ladies at the hair salon were extremely helpful and made my daughter feel special and made her doll feel special as well! We shopped in the store until it was our doll's turn and I received text messages when they started the appointment! Brittany was very nice and very informative. She told my daughter how to care for Luciana's hair! It was a great experience!

We had a great time. My favorite thing is how the staff initiates conversations with the girls, not the parents. It meant a lot to my daughter that a staff member directed her to the dolls with "grey-hazel" eyes like hers. The selection is overwhelming but they have everything you could ever want. The prices are high but is all good quality. It's very motivating for my daughter to earn her own money to get a doll accessory or pet. We hit a book sale and some books were $1. Can't beat that.

We loved our adventure. I would suggest that the salon install a kiosk for onsite salon scheduling. I always make my appointments online. What I noticed is that the few employees who are working the salon often have to stop and sign visitors up for appointments on site. As a result, the scheduling gets behind. And those who have already made appointments end up staying longer! The Weller Wishers tea party event needs to be more personalized and interactive. I felt no different than if I had scheduled my own tea time. Overall, the staff are professional and attentive.

The girls loved this place. Took my daughter here for her 8th birthday party with a couple friends. LOVE the new store! I'd last been to the old one, and you could hardly move. The new store is well-laid out, plenty of space, more options for the dolls than you could ever hope for. We went this last weekend and they had SALES! We got so many books for only a $1! I was so excited! My daughter was more whatevs but mom was happy! They also had some accessories on sale which was appreciated because we'd already left our mortgage payment at the registers downstairs. Cafe, ear-piercing, sweet-shop and more on the second level. Cute displays, plenty of interactions with products and staff is helpful and not pushy. Only small dislike is that the meal felt a little rushed. Which can be understood when dealing with little kids who aren't good at waiting. Not a huge thing, will not prevent us from coming back and spending the girls' college funds.

Going into the American Girl store is like stepping into there catalog. They have wonderful displays of the dolls with the available accessories. I love being able to see the larger furniture items in person. This location is complete with a doll salon. You can bring your doll in to have her hair styled. My favorite thing is the Bistro. They have delicious food and as a bonus they have special seats for your doll.

We went to the AG store in Alpharetta on Sunday, 11/13, for my daughter's birthday. We kept it a family event, so we did not have a party at the bistro. My daughters both played with some of the display dolls and accessories in the store. My daughter selected her doll and some accessories, and I carried both around the store for approximately 30 minutes before I was approached asking if I wanted a shopping bag, even though I walked past no fewer than 5 employees who were not otherwise occupied. After shopping, we went to the bistro for our lunch reservation. We were seated promptly, and the service was fine in the bistro. The food, on the other hand, was sub-par for the amount we paid. As with most things in the AG store, you're paying for the name and the experience. I had the burger, and it was fine, not great but not terrible. My daughters both ordered the butterfly pasta, which was simply noodles on a plate, and the noodles were not warm nor buttered. My daughter, who was turning 4, didn't care and was just excited to be in the store, but if I'm paying $16.50 per plate, I expect a little more than cold plain noodles. Overall, I was disappointed in the experience, but my daughter was thrilled, which is why I am giving it two stars.

I took my 7 year old daughter here for her birthday and we loved it! The customer service was awesome! There was always someone ready to help. My daughter got her 1st AG doll. We got the doll's ears pierced and her hair done. The appointment system for the doll salon was super easy to book. We also ate at the cafe. The food was just okay, but it was more about the experience. The assistant manager was awesome and gave my daughter a few books and AG trinkets once she found out this was our 1st time to the store.

The bistro was disappointing. They only had 3 of the 8 things available on the menu. Which is understandable, but they did not offer anything to make up for not being able to order food we actually wanted. Also grownup portions for children over 4 is ridiculous. Not worth the drive or price in my opinion. Hair salon was very unorganized as well. Our scheduled stylist went missing, therefore we had to wait longer before someone else could replace her. Floor level employees were friendly, but management did nothing to resolve any issue. Very disappointed. I will not return.

The Only reason I would not rate this 5 stars, is its so expensive. Otherwise this store is a dream. Its huge, full of super cool things that would appeal to any girl from astronaut to gardener, from Native American to mystery writer. We don't actually have a will but we do have knock offs and then have bought accessories here. We really love the books amd movies. Those are our favorite. The cafe is fine, its was a once amd done for my foodie daughters.

My daughter had her 7th birthday party at American Girl. I was very disappointed with what came with the birthday especially for the price. I would not recommend anyone to have their daughters party here unless your ready to buy all the girls in the party a doll. It is really just the same as taking your daughter out to a restaurant. If the gift bags had more in them than just a doll shirt and some kind of doll rattle. They could have put candy etc. Also I think American Girl should make mini dolls for the girls to take home or to be placed in their gift bags. Nice place to take your daughter to visit but definitely not a party package. I felt I did not get what I paid for and the service was slow aside from them n out getting the plates that were already used off the table and out of our way. They just continued to pile everything on the table. Not recommended.

We came here for afternoon tea during Christmas time (did not pay extra for the holiday tea thing). I took both grandmas and the girls. At $19/pp (the girls shared one serving), my bill came to just below $100 after tip. You don’t come here for the food but for the experience and company. I’ve never owned an American girl doll, but thanks to the generosity of grandma and some Aunties, the girls inherited a doll each. They held on to their dollies proudly as we walked through the hugeeeeee store. It was nice the dolls got a seat at our table. The prices are pretty $$$ but if it’s a one time a year thing I think it’s worth it. It was definitely a fun atmosphere and I felt like a little kid again.

I love this place! I got my American Girl Lea Clark here for my 9th birthday 3 years ago and I got Blaire Wilson here on January 1st. My sister also got Rebecca Rubin here 3 years ago for her 8th birthday and got her Truly Me named Ella here on January 1st. All 3 times that we were here we (me, my sister, 2 brothers, and mom and dad) we’re satisfied. The food was good! And I have 6 books from here with information inside that I use with all my heart as it makes me a better person. Would highly recommended it this place, their dolls and accessories, play sets, and books!

Had a really good experience at the cafe, but the salon experience left a lot to be desired. We waited nearly half an hour for someone to show for our appointment (apparently someone was no show for work), then got fussed at when my little one was playing with display toys on the floor. Seriously, there's only so long you can expect a two year old to wait without your store being rearranged. Finally gave up and went home without having salon services.

I found it hard to grasp the silliness of this store. Paying to get your doll's hair done and to get its ears pierced is absurd. I don't see how the workers could take their jobs seriously. Perhaps their disconnection with their product could explain their lack of warmth. Dining area was understaffed. Extremely disappointed with the customer service within the bistro. We planned a family girls day for our first trip! A month in advance! Their excitement getting ready in their matching outfits was contagious! Unfortunately, 6 PM rolled around, the time of our big reservation! There was absolutely no one at the hostess stand. Finally when someone did arrive, she was unpleasant and unorganized. Our table had not even begun to be set up yet. Several minutes later, our table was finally ready. Our server came out, said hello, rolled her eyes when I was the only one to acknowledge her while the others did not realize she was even there yet. The girls were ecstatic setting up their AG dolls in their chairs given to them. We explained that it was our first time and a stack of star stickers were thrown on the table for our group to wear. This was debatablely the only friendly moment our entire evening. The service was terrible. Everything took an extremely long time or was forgotten about completely. Several items had to be sent back because they did not taste as they should. The only part of the evening our server seemed to be concerned about was her tip. On each of our receipts she made sure to circle the amount she desired in tips. After making us feel like an inconvenience all night while the staff moped around the bistro, now you want to make demands. I left a note on my receipt (yes I left a tip) explaining how sad our experience was and that I hope her day gets better as well as to smile. It was not just our server who had this negative attitude, it was the entire staff. My girls had dreamt about coming here and now, they have no desire to come back to the bistro. Working in an industry directed at children and imaginative play, the attitudes of the employees did not reflect the environment. I hope they address the lack of enthusiasm, efficiency, and atmosphere at this location. I am this disappointed and I only travelled one hour... I would feel awful for a family who travelled a long distance to experience the less and mediocre service. To sum this up, I would not recommend going to this bistro. You can easily create a more magical meal in your own home with cups and plates for everyone! Take my advice, don't waste your money!

Amazing! This is the rare store that celebrates children. Everything on display can be touched and played with. We spent several hours at the store having fun, but the kids did not go crazy trying to buy everything and just enjoyed the pure joy of play. The hair salon was worth it, and our dolls love their new styles. The bistro was also nice, and the doll-sized plates were an adorable touch. We made a special trip to the area just for this store, and it was worth it! The rest of the mall also seemed really nice, with a train, a carousel, and other great stores (like the Lego Store).

Hello! Growing up American Girl dolls were everything! Unfortunately I didn't come from a home that could afford such expensive things. You can imagine my excitement as a mother now who can afford to buy her daughters the very doll I always wished to have. I purchased one of your dolls for my daughter at the water tower location while on a weekend trip with my mother and sister. I was so excited to bring the doll back home for my daughter! Unfortunately the bag that I got from the store ripped making it unable to carry onto our train ride home. I went back to the store to get a new bag and that's where my disappointment set in. I went up to the checkout counter and tried to explained what had happened. The woman was extremely rude. I wasn't even allowed to finish my sentence before I was interrupted given an eye roll and had the work "NO!" Said to me. I was told that you don't give bags away, I offered to pay for the bag and again was given a eye roll and a very rude NO! I left very upset, not just because of the bag but because of the way I was made to feel. I had for so long looked forward to this experience and to be treated this way over a paper bag just seems unreal. Honestly I don't know if I will ever go back to your store, I would never want my daughter to feel the way I was made to feel.

I understand it’s the day before Christmas Eve, but it was NOT busy when we were here and not one employee helped us, asked if we needed help, and we were never greeted! Even the cashier acted as if we were an annoyance. Teach your employees how to atleast fake a smile and try to help people rather than hire people who could care less. My daughter to run and play with the display toys get a feel for what I was shelling out for picked her doll and we went to the the little Bistro and made lunch reservations we had to wait over an hr but didn't mind it was Saturday and of course a slew of birthday parties were being held but they still made time and room for us and made sure my daughter didnt get any less attention then any other girl. It was our first visit and she was excited and thanking everyone. Was like going to Disney land without the travel time or price tag not even a week later and she's asked every day when we are going back. This is one of my granddaughters favorite store! You can spend a whole afternoon looking at all the beautiful dolls and their accessories. I was surprised to see that they also had clothes for the girls to match with their dolls. And I love that there are books written around the dolls, especially the historical fiction. My granddaughter loves reading those too! It's great that there is a Bistro where we can grab a bite to eat.

I was particularly pleased with Delores who helped do my daughter's dolly's hair and nails. Delores was very friendly and did great talking to my daughter about her interests and then when my daughter went to go look at something with my wife, Delores was good at even striking up a conversation with me and told me some great things that my daughter can do with upcoming events at the store. Wonderful experience!

Having grown up during the time of cabbage Patch dolls, I understand all the rave over an American Girl doll. I do however take issue with an establishment blatantly taking advantage of individuals in their pricing of food items. In an effort to totally enjoy the experience of the store, my niece and I, her friends, and a host of others decided to dine and shop at the store. The clothing for the dolls was impressive as well as the staff. But there is something wrong with a person paying $16 for 2 slices of thinly sliced bacon and 3 pieces of French toast accompanied by 4 to 5 shrunken apple slices in a very small container of cinnamon topping. It would be one thing if the setting for the restaurant portion of the store provided an over the top ambience but this was not the case. It was only a step up from a typical diner setting. The other offerings on the menu were no better but still boasted a $16 price tag. This needs to change. In this day and time when people's money is sometimes limited, they should not leave a restaurant charging that much for a meal (that will probably cost no more then $5 at another establishment) and still be hungry. The store's already making a significant amount in the price of its dolls and the clothing. It is constantly fill to capacity with patrons, so why short change your customers like that? You all need to do better. Needless to say, although I may bring my niece back to buy more clothing for her dolls, I will never host a birthday party or any other event at the restaurant portion.

Most little girls could easily spend a few hours here looking around and playing. If you are hungry there is a shopping mall with food and drinks in the same building, as well as an American Girl themed café.

This was my first time in the store as well as my nieces first time. Her face lit up when she realized she was going to go in the store and go shopping for her doll. We had already made an appointment at the salon to have the doll's hair done. Morgan in the salon was phenomenal! She explained what she was doing to my niece and talked to us, mainly my niece, while she was "washing and curling" the dolls hair. We ended up getting her ears pierced and buying several outfits and a book. I had no idea that store carried all of those items for little girls and boys, and their dolls. It was truly an experience.

The manager at this location was so nice to my wife and daughter. It's like they became instant friends through conversation. When the manager found out we had a house fire and we lost everything which included all my daughter toys she really brightened my daughter day because she too had a house fire when she was young as well. This was our second visit to this location and both times they have treated us very well. Great place to have a birthday party as well. My daughter really enjoyed her 5th birthday party there.

The girls received little plates and cups for their dolls and were able to keep them. Their selection of dolls and accessories was amazing. So far so good. First time I went to the mall for something else and stopped in to ask a question. They were very helpful. My oldest daughter had received a doll and extra outfit for Christmas but the dress had ripped. They said bring it back and they would exchange it. When she got back home from summer away I took her in. She had a blast looking around and just like before, they were helpful. Exchanged the dress with no problem and that made us both happy. American Girl is an experience every little girl (or big) who loves dolls should experience. You can bring your own doll or borrow one. The doll is provided her own seat and cup and saucer. Since we did a birthday the birthday girl and dolls each got a crown and stickers.

Both Grandmother's brought our 6 year old Granddaughter to purchas her American Girl Doll with money she had been saving. We drove from Pensacola Fl. to experience this special surprise visit for our Granddaughter. We were greeted by the most fabulous Lady there. She welcomed my Granddaughter, gave her a tour of the store and answered all her questions and conversed in debt with her. My Grandaughter felt special and welcomed by this employee. After two Dolls, ear piercing and accessories we went to the Bistro to have lunch to complete our experience. We were told that we would have a 2 hour and 45 minute wait. That would have put us at eating lunch at 3:00 PM. Our Granddaughter was terribly disappointed that we could not fulfill this part of our experience per we had a more than 5 hour ride ahead of us. I suggest when you go into the store that you check with Bistro to see what the wait time is so that your little one does not get disappointed like ours.

Located at Water Tower place, American girl is quite an attraction to its female base. I went there for my daughter and I was quite amazed to see so many dolls stocked up with their own interesting backgrounds. My toddler fell for a Bitty Baby at the end. Although the dolls are quite pricey but they are very well made. Maybe to treat on a special occasion. There are two floors and it can become a bit confusing for parents and young toddlers in selecting the dolls as there are so many choices available. I would suggest if the staff could help more in guiding the parents/kids as to the available options to avoid frustration.

The experience here for a young girl is amazing. However, the bistro left something to be desired. It took us over an hour to get our food and of course when it arrived it was cold. The customer service here made up for the extreme wait on a non busy Saturday. Keep in mind you have to make hair appointments in person these are not able to be completed online. Overall a cool place but 2 stars were given due to the bistro

Our daughter celebrated her 9th B'day at the Chicago location and what an awesome experience it was. We picked the Deluxe party package for 13 kids. It was a 3 course meal served in fine dining style. I ordered salmon with roasted potato and broccoli and thoroughly enjoyed it. Each kid picked what every they liked from the menu. The private party room was well arranged with mini high chairs for each doll and mini cups and plates too. The " drop the disc" game was really nice. Service was great. Goody bags had high quality items. It was a magical B'day worth the money spent.

Love American Girl! But save your money as far as the cafe goes! RUDEST servers ever. Carlos was dressed like a woman and all the servers were men, who weren't really men. The staff all seemed like they hated their jobs. Very disappointed if this was supposed to be their flagship store. AND, after spending hundreds of dollars here they charge you for a bag for your merchandise!

The restaurant is overpriced which was expected but it was a little dirty the menus were sticky, flowers on the table were really dusty staff was just okay. The store itself was fun definitely recommend checking it out
