This Restaurant is included in the category of Taiwanese restaurant.
Small menu options but all of the things they sell are accurate to Taiwanese cuisine and very tasty. We've come before, and I've reviewed the place before, but they are very good all around and worth it for the small plates. Small place too, but totally worth visiting. Price is okay, and reasonable for the amount of food.
This is a small, intimate spot to chill and relax! The food is absolutely delicious, the staff is very pleasant and respectful. There are no drawbacks to this establishment. I was very impressed and will be back! Okay..l have to go and eat!
Small bites, but PACKED with flavor! Truly a wonderful, mouthwatering experience! I was a little bit surprised by the quantity, the Bao was about a teen fist sized snack, for about 5.50, which is about the cost of a five dollar foot-long at subway. I figured this place better have some really good flavors based on the price, and I was pleasantly surprised! The pork in the Bao was packed with flavor, tender and topped off some some cilantro. It was delicious and I will be back!
Always super busy when I come, but that never impacts service. Food is fresh, interesting and delicious! They also have a nice sake selection.
Ah-Ma's ("Grandmother's" in mandarin) serves authentic Taiwanese street food with haute-style presentation. The food comes out fresh and hot - the salt and pepper chicken was right out of the frier. Pricing is pretty pair overall, some are higher than I think should be for this kind of food (like the baos). Definitely recommend the lu rou fan (minced pork in a flavorful sauce with cilantro over rice), salt and pepper chicken, and sticky rice cup. My only real complaint was with the quintessential Taiwanese beef noodle soup - the broth didn't have the rich flavor that I've had from other places and was rather... lacking. Overall, it's definitely worth a try!
First time visit, unexpectedly good and surprisingly authentic.
Everything slaps!
小贵 味道不错
Excellent service, tasty definitely will return
Apparently it is a no reservation restaurant and wait in only. However, tables are given to customers that are not even waiting in the restaurant. We come all the way from philadelphia and receive such poor customer service, highly disappointed! The one particular male (?manager on duty) was very malignant and hostile.
The food here is awesome. I been coming here for about 4 years now. The food here is consistent. Their pork belly bao is the bomb!!!
Good environment, small but decorated dining area, great quality food. Cheap too.
Excellent little gem. Bao's are superb!!
Great pork bao, and the tofu bao had some of the best tofu I've ever had.
I quite liked this small little Taiwanese place. Very unassuming and relaxed environment. Service was good. Thought the food was good. I had the hot and sour soup. Which I enjoyed. Surprisingly hard to get good hot and sour soup. But at Ah-Ma's it was decent. The waiter recommended getting the salt & pepper chicken (taiwanese chicken nuggets). I'd pass on that. It wasn't worth it. I got the beef tendon soup. This was good. But looking around, beef noodle soup looked tastier. So get that rather than the beef tendon soup.
Truly a great experience from the cool decor to the delicious food. Highly recommend.
A great little find with authentic Taiwanese small eats!
Great Taiwanese food. Appropriate proportion. Not as much as usual Chinese restaurants, but have more authenticate tastes
I love this place!!! Foods look delicated and taste great! Three small serves are enough for two person.
Wife took me here to eat lunch on a Thursday. Sat down around 12:30 PM. This isn't a restaurant concept, nor is it a food truck concept. It's a street food-ish; think, tapas portions, and you'll be on track. Plan on ordering multiple dishes and ask for sharing plates. Go there to taste, not to fill-up, and enjoy the range of rich flavor on offer. The sweet and sour soup has a wonderful peppery broth and is piping hot. The bao are lovely to look at, fluffy and soft without being wet or gooey, and filled with fresh ingredients. On a hot summer day, my wife showed me what refreshing flavors can be found in a plate of cold noodles. Combining a bowl of soup, a bao for one, with a shared plate of cold noodles between two, leaves you satiated, not stuffed. Go there and give your taste buds some excitement.
Some of the best Asian food in midtown. Try the won-ton soup and the pork belly bao. Oh and the pickled vegetables! Honestly, you can't go wrong with your choices here and the prices are so low, might as well try a few things ;)
Fantastic food, great stuff. . Highly recommended
Pork belly Bao was really nice. Ordered it twice.
This small restaurant offers a pretty authentic Taiwanese fare, though quite on the expensive side for what they offer. Peak hours get quite crowded so be forewarned.
The most native Taiwanese food
Love this place. Small, simple, Taiwanese flavors
everything slaps
I came for the Pork Belly Bun. The
Nice little place to get a delicious Asian bite. Food is in small portion and very delicious.
I had the Lu Rou Fan and wanton soup. The soup was a generous portion for one person while my main "small plate" entree was just enough for one person. Both dishes were very good and delicious but the portions of the food weren't as filling compared to other restaurants.
Good food and service.
Small portion everything, good but not super impressive
Ah-ma zing food. We were surprised with the authenticity of their straightforward menu. Love it! We will definitely comeback for dinner tomorrow. :D
Small place but nice decor and friendly staff. Table of 2 was sat immediately, but could definitely see a wait on most days. Decent selection of food and drink. Food was fairly authentic and had a nice presentation. For the price, the portion size was decent, but if you're used to getting big portions of Taiwanese food for low price, you may think these dishes are a little pricey (even if your total bill is low). I would eat here again!
Great quality of food and friendly service. The Lu Roy Fan, and Yan Su Ji are highly recommended. Chili oil wontons and pork bun were also delicious. It’s a small restaurant with limited options, but all the dishes we ordered were tasty. Great fusion of Taiwanese food.
Very poor to choice for vegan and vegetarian. Hope you list some more veggie, So expensive, very expensive! Small bowl dumpling $9, little white rice and vegetable $ 13 I think never comeback
Convenient location in midtown, in shopping center across from Piedmont park provides ample parking. Small, well decorated space, friendly staff. Menu didn't explore Taiwanese cuisine the way I had hoped, pretty basic fare, but the pig ears were a treat! The oxtail was also tender and flavorful. It was a large portion and very filling. Would recommend sticking with small plates to explore the menu.
Authentic Taiwanese food. The baos are great. Parking can be hard to find on a busy day. I wish they served tea.
Good selection of Taiwanese food! Authentic 卤肉饭
Went for dinner the other day with my parents. It was decently busy but the service was very friendly and fast. We ordered: -Fried Pig Ears -Salt and Pepper Chicken -Dirty Bird and Pork Belly Bao -Lou Rou Fan -Beef Tendon Soup The fried pig ears were absolutely delicious---hot, tender, juicy and savory with a wonderful porkiness perfectly complemented by the scallions. 10/10 The Salt and Pepper Chicken was similarly pretty good, though nothing too special---the chicken was well cooked, extremely juicy, and mildly flavored with five spice powder. It was basic, not really much more than chicken nuggets with some stuff on top, but alright. 7/10 The baos were both absolutely delicious. The Dirty Bird---crispy chicken, wasabi bite, and crunch from the pickled carrot and daikon. And my favorite, the Pork Belly---Sweet yet succulent and porcine, complemented by a fabulous nuttiness from the peanut powder and the acid sweetness of the preserved veggies. Could totally be described as "lush". Both were pillowed on the lovely bao, soft and pliant yet with a toothsome chew to them. Both 10/10. However, this is where we came into some problems with our meal. I was most excited by the Lou Rou Fan but it was just...so...ordinary. It wasn't bad, but it didn't have that lift that I was expecting. The pork was under-seasoned and dry, the rice unmentionable, and the cilantro, the heavyweight herb added little to nothing to the overall dish. Similar sentiments on the braised egg and pickled radish. 5/10 at most. Similarly, the beef tendon soup was a disappointment. I can certainly appreciate blandness as a flavor---but when the soup is $13, I expect a little bit more pazazz. The tendon soup is absolutely empty. The beef is mild and tender, and the soup includes nice tendon bits to chew on. Similarly, the noodles were wonderful---chewy, and obviously homemade. But the broth, the base of the soup, while rich with fat, was so flavorless that it almost defies the label of "broth". I wish we had ordered the beef soup instead. 4/10. Overall, would I go back to Ah-Ma's? Yes. And no. I enjoyed much of what I had, especially the pig ears and the baos. They are worth coming back for. But, the rest underwhelmed me. There were some fairly interesting choices that I'd like to sample but...the entire time I was there, I couldn't help but think, "I could find the same food for much cheaper somewhere on Buford Highway." I realize that it's Midtown, but the price of the food compared to the quantity is pretty ludicrous. $13 for a bowl of mediocre soup---I could buy a bathtub of pho for that same price. $4.5 for some delicious, but small bao. As much as I'd like to taste that pork belly bao again, I just don't think it's worth the trip. 3/5
This place has the best vegan dish in town: the Gan Mien. It also specializes in meat, and my friend's favorite dish is the lotus root sausage. It's like a mini Taipei inside. Parking is usually pretty easy to find, but we usually go around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. It gets much more crowded at night, since the place is popular. There are a few parking spots reserved for its customers.
Good food, good service
Really good!!! Tastes just like we were eating food at the night market in Taipei.
This was one of our go-to spots that we've really come to like, but unfortunately we won't be back. We accidentally ordered the wrong dish and the soup we got had such a unique, pungent flavor we couldn't eat it. Instead of taking back the food that we did not like and switching it out for a dish that we knew we liked, they informed us that it cost them money too and we'd have to pay for all four dishes. I understand it was our mistake in ordering the wrong thing, but restaurants take the risk of customers not liking their food and the right thing to do is to serve them food they will eat. I wasn't going to spend $60 on four bowls of soup, so we paid for the wrong food and left hungry. Instead of easily correcting the issue they lost two customers! Bad customer service.
Baos and sour soup were delicious, but the shrimp in one of the shrimp baos was undercooked.
Simple Taiwanese street food. Bao which are like tacos and beef noodle soups.
Our first time having Taiwanese food and we were very impressed. Everything was delicious, we had pickled veges, vege bao and the noodles, wow! We love Taiwanese food thanks to Ah-Ma!
Fantastic food at affordable price

Love this place- the bao and noodles are excellent. Great sake options
Delicious and well priced. Had pork belly bao and huntun soup. Not too different from hong kong! Unexpected treasure
In midtown, this is a rare authentic taiwanness restaurant. Oxtail is ok. Lu Rou Fan is good. Three cup chicken wings is the least authentic Chinese food doe.
Good Taiwanese dishes, homemade taste.
Seated right away on a Sunday night. I enjoyed a veggie bao and beef tendon soup. Excellent taste and texture for the bao. The beef in the soup was very tender. The food came in a reasonable amount of time and was fresh and got upon arrival. I would go again if we stayed in the area longer.
Some decent Taiwanese food. Small plates, so you can order two or three to try different dishes.
Long wait, let people who comes in after seats down before us... Restaurant not even that busy... Looks like less people are going to eat there...pricy for Chinese food and not even that great
Portions are small, but food taste great! Get multiple small dishes and share with everyone!
Food was average. Had to wait an hour to get a table. Additionally, the unprofessional and rude attitude coming from the manager gives this restaurant a one star rating.
Food was good, but it was a little bit pricey
Delicious, homemade bao, great egg drop soup, incredible tea. Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu! Little place, so not a lot of seating if it gets busy.
the food is alright. but the service is really bad. obviously, the manager's major concern is not how customers feel. I heard same comments from other friends. I wont come again.
Another wonderful meal.
Very solid, good prices nice service.... Rly good food, unique
Great selection of Taiwanese food. Delicious. Fun atmosphere. Perfect for sharing an assortment of food with friends. Also good for vegetarians and pescatarians.
Like the Lu Rou Fan here. Have no idea why the noodle cost so much lol...
The chili oil wontons were incredible. I would've drank the sauce if I were shameless.
The pork belly bao melts in your mouth and the beef noodle stew is superb even as takeout. They thoughtfully and carefully pack everything separately to make sure it's all fresh and hot. The beef in the stew has clearly been slow cooked for hours because it fell apart as I bit into it. I need to try this place again in person!
It’s what we say in Chinese, 家常便饭,ordinary home meals. Lu Rou Fan (卤肉饭), for example, is just mixing up some precooked ground meat with steamed white rice. The “Taiwanese guava juice” came in a soda can, 15% juice on the can label. These would be considered food for the family table, not presentable for entertaining guests. The ambience is clean and neatly kept though.
good food and price
Incredible, healthy and surprising dishes. The staff is always nice and welcoming. Try the chili...
Excellent flavors. Simple menu. Well priced.
Beautiful lunch! Perfect, healthy, tasty, quick!
Above average food. For the price some might argue it might not be as worth especially the buns but quality food.
Food was delicious, but service from one server was sub par. Other servers were good.
Love this little place. I finally taste the authentic Taiwanese foods that I haven't had for so long. The salt and pepper chicken is what I came for. The beef noodle was OK, but not impressive from a real Taiwaness' point of view. The waitress was really nice too. Hopefully I will have a chance to come back. This was the best meal I had for my trip from Arizona.
Excellent Taiwanese food with community seating and good ambience. Will go again.
Very good Taiwanese food. Excellent salt and pepper chicken, beef noodle soup and tendon soup. We also tried the chilly wonton and Lu Rou Fan, they are very good too. Great local gem.
Authentic salt and pepper chicken.
Love this place. Consistently good comfort food. Good service and atmosphere.
Great beef noodle soup!
Small place my boyfriend found and brought me to. Surprisingly enough, it's quite delicious and I recommend going. There's generally a wait, anywhere between 10-30 minutes, depending on the time of day, as well as the day of the week, that you go in. I highly recommend the oxtail dish, as well the dumplings, baos and rice bowls. Don't get the cold noodles, that was a huge mistake on my part. The fried chicken pieces are very flavorful but seem a bit overly salty.
Found this restaurant nearby Trader’s Joe. Had Lu-rou-fan as takeout. The price was reasonable.
Lu Ro Fan (魯肉飯) slow cooked minced pork with rice and pork belly bao (掛包), they are both excellent in flavor. Pork belly bao is unique cuz it has a hinge of sweetness.
Food are great. Portion are really small though. Their small dish are size of a side item and large dish are still small.
Food is incredible and I've had just about all the asain food in Atlanta. Tasty, delicate, complex yet simple.
Some of the best Taiwanese food you're going to get in Atlanta! The best beef noodle soup we have had outside of Taipei. The luo ruo fan was awesome too.
It's good but it's so overpriced for what it is. I think it's because I'm from Cali and Taiwanese food there is so cheap, I can't bring myself to spend twice as much. The only thing I will say is the fried pig ears are with it because I've never had anything that taste like that! I've had pig ears before, but not fried. The fried part took the dish to the next level, it's a must try!
One of the best places in Atlanta for Taiwanese. It's so good. It's a nice cosy spot to chill in as well.
I lovedddd it here! The oxtail is sooooo tender and delicious, my new favorite part of the cow to eat. I LOVE their chicken wings, but pretty much everything I ate was delicious! The bao is so good!! and so is their salt and pepper chicken. The menu may seem small but every dish is so well made, its definitely a great quality restaurant! I want to take my family here
Hubby and I like to try a new spot at least 1-2 times a month. Ah-Ma's made the list. Located in the Midtown Promenade, there is plenty of parking. This venue is a nice little trendy spot. We arrived just when they opened for dinner and were the only patrons. We ordered the "Dirty Bird Bao" in which the wasabi aioli is to die for by itself. The bao was so soft and moist on the outside and crispy crunchy on the inside. Our second item was the "Frog Legs". You know the term, "it taste like chicken". Well it applies to these frog legs. They were seasoned to perfection and literally fell off the bone. Lastly, we ordered the "Beef Noodle Soup" and it was too die for with all the chunks of tender beef and the spicy broth. This was the perfect comfort food on a chilly day. I highly recommend this venue.
Pretty good!
A trendy, yet authentically Taiwanese restaurant in a fun part of town! My wife is Taiwanese, and is rather picky about Asian food. Suffice it to say I haven't eaten anywhere that hands out fortune cookies since we started dating. She was skeptical about Ah-Ma's when it opened, since the Virginia Highlands area isn't known for authentic Asian food, but it meet with the Pauline Seal of Approval. ;P For my part, the Bao is easily some of the best I've had in the city, being a little fluffier and less moist than you might be accustomed to. Everything is really quite delicious!
Not very authentic.
Great food, authentic. Definetly try braised oxtail and beef soup. Great tasting and absolutely enough to fill you up on an empty stomach.
Not Taiwanese at all.
Pretty authentic Taiwanese food. The beef noodle soup was really delicious. Pls remember to order their salt and pepper chicken nuggets.
Good buns and small plates.
Great food. Not a big menu but the choices are good and the food is awesome. I don't eat chinese food but Taiwanese food is a whole nother ball game
Taiwanese cold noodles
Lu rou phan, beef noodle bowl, and pork belly bao are consistently delicious and filling. Sticky rice is another house favorite. IMO, one of the best carry-out options in the area.
Order at least one of the Bao, order the Lu Rou Fan, and while you're at it, just try everything. You can't go wrong!
DELICIOUS. One of my family’s very fave spots in ATL. The staff is so kind and patient with our kids, and the food is fantastic.
Taiwanese Food is a niche in the realm of Asian Cuisine. Basil fried chicken bits, beef noodle soup, pork belly bun, minced pork with rice are some of the things that come to mind. I didn't see pork chop on the menu so that was kind of a bummer; no bubble tea either but I'm ok with that! Lol Their pork belly bun was delicious, definitely a win! So was their Ru Ruo Fan (minced pork with rice), that was all sorts of yummy! If you're homesick for Taipei, give this place a try. 要買要快喔~! Their 3 cup chicken wings was a let down. It's supposed to have the texture of a stewed or braised chopped chicken where as this was a fried chicken wing with sweet basil sauce. It's more like something you'd find on the menu at Buffalo Wild Wings than an authentic Taiwanese shop.
Best salt & pepper chicken this side of Taiwan! Awesome Lu Rou Fan is incredible! Don't mis it, come early and hungry or be prepared to wait.
Just went there to pick up a snack while grocery shopping. Hot and sour soup is really good and the shrimp bao was amazing!
Always good and dependable. We've been here many times and look forward to return visits. Good selection of beers and wines. We got the Arches Unseasonal Lager. We did a variety of smaller items for dinner: won ton soup, salt and pepper chicken, chili wontons, and pork belly bao. All excellent. Highly recommended!
牛尾饭,混沌,卤肉饭,刈包。都很好吃!
Fabulous soup. Fun ambience. Great to have a Taiwanese restaurant in town.
We've been to Ah-Ma's twice now for their delicious and very tender beef noodle soup (pictured). We also had some tasty bao and chili oil wantons (what's left is pictured). Great service. Nice place. Good music. Clean bathrooms. We left feeling that great feeling one gets when the noodle soup is just right. As good as any place on Buford Highway. Yum.
Delicious baos, quiet and comfortable atmosphere, responsive service.
A small Taiwanese kitchen that brings great flavor. Try the salt and pepper chicken and get it spicy.
My favorite Taiwanese restaurant in Atlanta! It's also the only one I know of in Atlanta! This restaurant is a somewhat hidden gem. While many people have finally caught wind of the delicious salt and pepper chicken and the delicate fluffy bao's served here, many still have not which is great because wait times haven't been that long for this tiny little restaurant. The other fan favorites here are the cup of sticky rice and the lou rou fan. The egg pancake roll? It's a skip. It's just egg and a crepe rolled up essentially. Nothing else to it. Sausage, it's ok. There's no wow factor, but it's still tasty. The chicken is what shines here. Get one, or maybe two if you don't want to share!
Lovely food and good service
Great Taiwanese staples in ATL
Small dishes are great for health conscious eating habits! Foods are delicious!
Extremely rude and inconsiderate person working the phone and front desk. Walked in one evening and asked if they had space, they said no and that we should have made a reservation over the phone. A week later we call to make a reservation and the lady on the phone asks what time and for how many people. We give them all the details. We arrive to the restaurant only to have the person in charge of seating people to say that we never called and that our reservation did not exist. Of course we were a bit upset and confused so we tried to explain, but in response they kicked us out and would not listed. EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL!
Fantastic food fantastic service, and the added bonus was well curated background music. 5 stars!
The beef soup is not worth the price at all. I can get a cheaper ramen with much better taste
Kind of good food, nothing amazing
AUTHENTIC Taiwanese food, with amazing service, from a dear family. I have been looking for a delicious place like this ever since visiting Taiwan myself. To this day, after spending years in Asia, they still have the BEST fried frog legs i've ever tried. The Place is small, but absolutely worth trying
Good food. Small portions.
Ah Ma knows how to secure their beef noodle soup for takeout. Plastic wrap on the broth + lid. Ingredients separated in the bowl. Larry David would be proud! Oh, and their soup is delicious!
Solid food, but a bit pricey for what it is
BEST PLACE EVER. Do not let the lower rated reviews deter you. Definitely get the pork bao or beef noodle soup.
Great addition to the neighborhood. Solid food.
Buns were tasty, excited to get back and try the soup once the summer days have passed. Extremely helpful and attentive staff.
The food seemed unique and authentic
The small plate dishes were delicious. Try the lu rou fan
It's. SO. Good. Very traditional dishes with tasty sake and fun waiters. If you're hankering for a good time with some amazing Taiwanese food, it doesn't get any better than this! Enjoy a stroll along the belt line after to take on he sights :)
Great food and service. Highly recommend!
I love this place! Their menu is pretty unique inside the city of Atlanta! The restaurant is right next to Piedmont Park which makes it perfect for a a weekend in Midtown. For me, it's one of the few places in this area with authentic Asian food! The portions are perfect to try more than one dish or to share! And the prices affordable considering the area where it is located. Their Dirty Bird Bao is my absolute favorite!
Get the hot and sour soup you don’t be disappointed
I had the beef noodle soup. It tasted like they opened a can from Campbell's. There was almost no flavor at all.
My favorite Taiwanese street food. The pork belly bun just melt in your mouth! All the small plates were great! I have tried 90% of their dishes on the menu and all were good!
The food is always excellent. Their Bao's are really popular here and I also really enjoy the Beef Noodle Soup.
Authentic Taiwanese food, fresh, high quality. Good service. Would happily come again if I lived closer!
The dirty bird bao is glorious!
Good food portions are small
Excellent TW food!
My favorite place in the midtown neighborhood hands down. Excellent food for a good price and the beer and sake selections are great. The bao, chili oil wonton, and spicy chicken are my favorites. The staff is always nice and friendly and provides excellent service.
If you're looking for a place intown to grab some Taiwanese style Beef Noodle Soup, this is the place to go without having to haul up to Buford Highway. The hot and sour soup is delicious and the bao (buns) are delicious. However, my pork belly sandwich was on the unpleasant side of fatty. Hopefully this was just an off day. Everything else was great.
Small portions, but tasty! Posted is fried chicken wings.
