Really enjoyed this place... The food was good the atmosphere on a Saturday night was really nice ... The corn on the cob was especially fresh... We had the ribs and fries which were yummy... the barbecue sauce was really good.... We left as the music was starting....

However, the food was worth the confusion I just wish we where told before ordering they weren't accepting any cards. This caused me to withdraw money from an atm causing me to pay an unwanted fee.

Location is incredible and the atmosphere is relaxed and fun :) food can be hit or miss depending on when you go. If it's typically going to be a quiet part of the day, I would avoid the long roast stuff like ribs and brisket. Those are best on busy nights.

Great place to stop for casual BBQ on your way to or from various Everglades attractions on 8th St (40). Able to serve large crowds with outdoor picnic table seating, the service was prompt and friendly. The sides are home made and tasty. Typical Florida Everglades fare with frog legs, alligator and conch fritters available alongside traditional BBQ items.

Awesome food, great service and reasonably priced! I do read reviews but don't base my decision soley on whether I will try a new restaurant. I'm so glad we decided to go for lunch. The owner Sonya was super friendly. She did say she has bus tours that stop frequently so I'm wondering if those that had to wait might have been on a day when a bus stopped in. The food was wonderful!!! The wait wasn't long and we paid with a credit card. I would definitely go back!!!

Went to eat at the pit. The bathrooms were out of order and when we asked if we could wash our hands they gave us 4 packets of hand wipes there was 6 in our group. The black beans with rice was under cooked. The fried shrimp basket the shrimp were over cooked. We ordered the rack of ribs it was a very small rack of half ribs and over cooked and dry. For 16.99 it was definitely not worth it. Everything was over priced with reallly small portions.

So I decided to stop by this place after a close friend highly recommended it.... Well....never again! First, ordered a corn, which I never received yet was being charged for it on bill. Second, also noticed when bill arrived a 50 cent additional charge all on its own....when I asked the waitress what the 50 cent charge was for she said for the American cheese slice they placed on my sons burger. THEN, as if that wasn't enough, I go to pay and their credit card swipe machine was supposedly offline. Waitress proceeded to process my debit card a total of 3 times! Then when it didn't go through, she asked, would you like to use another credit card as if it was my card that was the problem...... Proceeded to give her another card which she also said wasn't going through. After a few minutes she instructed me to just take the money out of their debit machine conveniently placed next to their window. Not sure about y'all but I am anti random ATM machines. Reluctant to use the machine I had no other choice but to take out money as I had no cash on me. Well....a few minutes ago I get a fraud alert from my bank that my debit card is being used more than once at the same location. AND the other credit card I used was also being ran, luckily I have no $ in the other credit card; therefore, that additional charge was declined. So there you go......I repeat....never again! Ps: after telling my friend what happen he felt bad and said he hadn't been there in years and thought it was the same American owners. Unfortunately it is not ‍ Pss: forgot to mention....expensive

Fast service but the food was cold. The service was bad. Perhaps because the tip was included on the bill. $4 for a lemonade that’s ridiculous. The rest room were falling apart and dirty. I do not want to imagine the kitchen. Also, the food was served on cheap plastic plate and spoons. The music, I can get better sound from my bluetooth speakers.

The environment is disgusting. Table and chair and their kitchen... We planes to eat inside at first, after sitting on the restaurant for 5 minutes and we decided to go the food because we cannot tolerate to eat over there. The food is not impressed but pricy.

My first and LAST time I come here. We were a party of +10 and the place was almost dead. Some of us seated in the next table and a PREGNANT WAITRESS talked nasty to us to stayed in our table. First of all, our fat bill left a good tip to be treated NASTY by her. We did not appreciate that. Food arrived warm, not hot. Tasteless and overcooked. The DJ sucked. Not only he played a few times THE SAME SONG but also was just cuban songs. Even my cuban friends were requesting more variety. Lastly, the place in general, parking and bathroom could be better. It was dirty. Sticky tables, a mess in the bathroom... Bottomline, DO NOT COME HERE. There are waaaay better places down the road. Just drive a little further. Even a 7eleven is better than this. Overpriced Tasteless food, dirty bathrooms and nasty waitresses.

My wife was having cravings for ribs, so decided to give this place a try. It was pretty late but they were still open. Order food and beers . While sitting there waiting for our food noticed a huge Roach running out of the kitchen area into the dining area coming right by our table. Advised the waitress about the roach, she looked at it and said "oh ok" . And walked away . Grossed out, I canceled our food an asked for my bill for the beers . Luckily they did not charge me for the beers or I'd be writing a letter to county inspectors . Hopefully they'll cleanup the place. The get one star for comping our beers only .

Loved, loved, loved. I finally found the time to stop and have lunch at The Pit. From the outside it's a peculiar place. And inside you may get worried about the food because it's personality. But it all contributes for the ambience. And the food, Oh, the food is impeccable! The best gator ribs I've ever had. The sides are also delicious. I strongly recommend you to stop by.

2 star for the service, 4 stars for food. Little over priced compared to amount of food. Service is non existent since the tips are included in the bill/check. Only bottle water, no filter water for people who loves water. If you are into disposable plates and cutlery and $1.75 water bottles (I drink a lot of water with my meals) you are in heaven. little improvement will easily earn 5 star. Food is good.

Local watering and eating hole. Beers are cheap and cold which is good. Near the Everglades so you would hope that the cat fish and the gator bites near there would be fresh but they tasted frozen at best. Staff is authentic and nice so they are chill and laid back which is good. Outdoor setup is great to hang out to have a quick bite. The spicy or gator sauce is tasty so make sure you get some extra of that to dip in.

Service is bad. The menu IS NOT what you pay for. The prices on the menu are OLD PRICE'S. They DO NOT have pitcher's of beer as advertised on the menu's. The A/C was BROKEN and they had floor fans and ceiling fan's. Very warm and humid. Our server was BAD. He rarely came by our table to check up on my party, never came by to pick up the dirty dishes. We ALWAY'S had to call him in order to ask for something. I WISH the ORIGINAL OWNER HAD NEVER , EVER SOLD The PITT. The new owner's HAVE RUINED The PITT !!

This place is ragged. Servers were at the bar smoking when we arrived. One of them even lit a cigarette on the inside before walling outside with her cigarette. Servers were rude, unprofessional, dirty appearance. They walked around eating. Cook coughs way too much to work in a kitchen.

Stopped by because we were starving after biking and touring the Everglades. Place was packed when we got in, however, our serving busted her butt to get everyone taken care of. Once the place cleared out she came over and chatted with us and told us the history of this place. Food was amazing and it was awesome to chat with our wonderful server, Sonia. Bad experience overall, frog legs were dry, burger was flavourless. Fries and the dog are the only positive things. Servers didn't even ask for water. Gator bites were decent but over priced.

Aptly named The Pit. Better BBQ could be found at McDonald's. Gator bites and ribs were tough, chewy and dry. The waitress didn't come by to see how we were doing or if we needed refills on our drinks (which we did because things were so dry). When it came to paying the bill, four meals (including one kid's meal), four drinks (none alcoholic) and one appetizer came to $106 and change. I was informed that the tip was already included ($15.... outrageous for such poor service and terrible food). Must be a tourist trap...don't get caught.

We were not impressed with The Pit. The service was not very good as a waiter barely stopped by to see how we were doing and never for long enough for us to get refills. The menu needs to be updated as there are things on the menu the no longer serve and some of the prices are wrong. There was nothing special about the food. Everything is also fairly expensive and the food is not worth the price.

This place is a complete rip off. They will out right lie to you. We clearly ordered a burger and instead got ribs. Then the waiter said the plantains were included but instead added them for 2.50. Finally, they added the tip to the bill even though the service was horrible. Lunch for 3 people came out to 83 bucks. Avoid this place.

Very few places serve meat like The Pit. Fall-off-the bone is half of the story. Flavor is the other part. Talking about ribs though beef is tender, flavorful and juicy too. Fries are crisp to perfection. Best Aligator. Kind service and best of all, there's short waiting time.

Have heard and seen it, but hadn't gone...had baby back ribs but they didn't fall off the bone..sooooo that's what determines how soft they are....Flannigan's,chilli's and Texas Roadhouse have.much better ribs,also BBQ place and no brisket ? Glad I tried it, but that's it.

Food is terrible, customer service is the worse I’ve received in a long time than any other restaurants. Cashier at the window has a bad attitude. The credit card machine was out of order so I had to get cash from their ATM machine and pay a fee. I guess that is their way of making money. They forgot to bring the beer before the food. This place is expensive; the food and service are NOTHING out of the ordinary! In addition, no one speaks English. Asked for tap water, but received bottled instead. Lemonade was $4!! To our surprise it wasn’t freshly squeezed nor natural; it asted like bottled lemonade. Beware: We found out that they accepted only cash when we received the check. ATM on-site charges a $3 fee. This place has a lot of potential given its location and touristic interest, but the customer seems to be the least of their priorities.

A good place top enjoy BBQ ribs and creole dishes. Pork and crocodile BBQ are the specialties, however there are other meet dishes. Saturdays and sundays a little bit crowded so expect slow (very slow) service, reasonable prices and a great family environment place. Cash is king, Credit card most of the time is not available.

Of you visit the Everglades when you're in South Florida (and you must), you'll be hungry when you're done and depending on where you went, there might be a restaurant option right there, but I advise you wait and come here instead. Gator bites are very good with a very spicy sauce (always a plus), but they also serve 7h gator ribs which fall off the bone and other BBQ options. I took away one star as they forgot to tell us from the beginning that their system was down so no credit accepted (they have ATM but charges a fare).

This place forces a tip on you even when only 3 people where eating. I asked for water since we dont drink sodas and they brought bottle water I said no regular tap water and they said NO we dont serve regular water. So i said what do you have sugar free only diet coke and tea, kids saw lemonade on menu (only one listed Pink Lemonade) and i ask can it be sugar free? Waiter said yes but neglected to say it was not the one on menu and when we get bill each one was $4.00. Listen i dont mind if i know what i am getting but dont blind side me and expect me to be happy. The food was good A PLUS but the service $ucks, you get bill and have to get up to pay it yourself and they force a 15% tip on you. I understand the forced tip with large parties but we where one adult and 2 teens. Let me decide if you earned your tip. I dont mind if food is not great or even great looking but i go to restaurants that give me great service, i will never go there again.

This place was ok at one point then, a few year back, it got really bad and now it has become the worst restaurant and/or bbq place that I’ve ever been to. Extremely expensive for the quality and quantity of the food served, most of the appetizers were burnt and the cuts of meat were atrocious. We ordered a T-bone steak and what we got was a $24.00 knock off, super thin, similar to a fillet steak and with a cardboard texture. The $12.00 appetizer alligator bites were a joke and so was the rest of the food and It’s dirty, I mean DIRTY. Notice that all “great reviews” were posted by local guides, there’s no way this place is getting honest 5 stars reviews, it deserves a —5 if anything. They also try to st k you with the tip. Watch out for that too.

Drove by once, saw how crowded the lot was and decided to stop on the way back. Still busy 4 hours later. Frog legs, gator bites, ribs, burgers.. We had the option to sit outside or inside, it's beautiful out so why not enjoy it?! Great music and atmosphere. Bring cash, that's all they take. If you don't have it on you they provide an ATM for you indoors. Stop on in and you won't leave hungry!

This place is going downhill fast. It took 30 minutes to onion rings. There were 3 tables seated after us who got their food before us. Waited an hour food was still not at our table. Once the third table got their food I had to tell the lady to cancel our order, and she said that it's almost out. I told her I never waited this long at flannigans, and they are a much bigger place. Mind you this is with then at full staff, there must have been six or seven servers, and 2 or 3 runners. I will never go back again, and I use to go there a lot under the other owners.

Got there just in time before they closed. Food was really good, but probably better earlier in the day. My buddy HS a Triple decker and said it was outstanding. So much meat. The churassco was good and you can taste the smoke from the wood.

We just had a fantastic BBQ at the pit. The location is a bit odd, it seemed to be the only building lit in the dark. The food was fantastic, the staff was very friendly. Both the baby rib and the pull pork were amazing. The prices are not high, I would definitely recommend a visit once you are in Miami. Thanks

This is not a REAL BBQ joint. Yes they serve BBQ style food. Asked if they had sweet tea, told yes, it was Lipton Brisk. At any given time there are 6 of the staff standing around together conversing and not being attentive. Food is ok. Nothing great. Service is extremely slow and if you do not speak Spanish you will be out of luck.

Don’t waste your money here!!! The waitress told me I had to order food in order to stay!! I have spent more than 100 dollars in less than an hour and no matter of that I was told to order food!! How ridiculous they are!!!! Don’t come!!

Terrible, this is the first and last time that I eat here. To be fair, I give it one solid star. Our table service was far from great but the young lady was warm and friendly. Her genuine personality while answering our questions, earned her the 15% mandatory tip, no problem; and while she did hook us up no charge, when we asked for free refills, a practice not authorized by ownership, she never checked on our table after serving our food. The space is cool. The authentic southern decor is a novelty in Miami-Dade County. It is remenisent of a cabin in the Blue Ridge mountains, and its an enjoyable aesthetic delight. Where The Pit has its steep downfall is in the tasteless food. BBQ is an art form and the Pit's cook scribbles in the kitchen, like a 3 year old: chaotic, aimless and careless. What really hurt, is the high priced plates. I could have gone to Famous Daves in Doral and had way better BBQ for half the price. My final conclusion: The Pit is the pits -save yourself the disgrace.
