Mr Bones is great and we’ve been coming here for years. However, last week when we went there was only one server. A dinner for 5 took nearly 2 hours. Management needs to hire some more people! Food was superb, we liked the “serve yourself” liquor tub at the front of the restaurant.

So you wouldn’t expect it from a BBQ place called “Mr. Bones” but this the best vegan menu on the island! The Thai Curry with Tofu is one of the all-time best vegan meals of my life! The owner Charlotte visited with us and told us that they have been here for 27 years and are always looking for ways to have something for everyone. It is obvious she is passionate about providing a unique dining experience. Oh, and they have vegan pie!

I am a rib guy. From Boston to N’awlins, Cali to D.C. the best ribs, very fun eclectic environment. Charlotte, the owner is sweet and attentive. Small and intimate. A must stop if you are on the west coast of Florida. Then walk on beautiful Holmes beach to use those calories up.

Best BBQ on Anna Maria Island! They have a great selection of dishes on the menu and even have vegetarian and Indian too. Really funky eclectic decor and the owner is very nice. Mr. Bones has a huge selection of bottled beer that is kept on ice in a coffin at the front entrance. Grab one and you'll be shown to your table. Kids love this place, and there's something for any picky eaters. Great take out and catering option. There are free trolley stops just in front of the restaurant, so if you're on the island you can easily get there from your vacation rental.

If you love bar-b-que this is the place to go, no bones about it. As you enter, you can reach into the coffin to find your favorite beer. The place has a unique charm. The servers are friendly and the service is fast. Your meat can be prepared in many bar b que styles. I had ribs, which were perfectly cooked and we're very tasty. This was my 4th visit here and I have never had a bad meal or a bad experience. Mr Bones has remained consistently good.

I ate at Mr. Bones a couple of nights ago with six people. The servers were very kind and attentive. We ordered five dishes to share. The portions are very generous; we even had leftovers to take home. The food is absolutely delicious and ranges from ribs to vegetarian entrees. It's my favorite place to eat on the Island!

Stopped in for lunch on a whim on this windy, overcast day, and so glad we did. A sign outside mentioned Indian spices and vegetables but I was really looking forward to pulled pork, and maybe some corn bread and baked beans. Corn bread wasn't on the menu but they did have yams, another favorite of mine, and by the end of the meal it didn't matter that corn bread wasn't available. The pulled pork was remarkably juicy and tender, and their homemade sauce was delicious. More sweet than tangy but it complemented the pork well. The yams, served in a sweet sauce, blew me away. I tasted a sausage from my sister's jambalaya and it was just as tasty as everything else. The menu said that my meal came with curry fried rice, which I had found interesting. I had never heard of bbq served with fried rice, especially fried with curry. Let me tell you: That rice was surprisingly good. In ordering my meal I didn't think I would touch the rice but I just couldn't help it. Service was great. Decor incorporates some traditional New Orleans themes which I have always found intriguing. I'm glad the wind blew us into the place, and I'll be returning in the future. Oh, did I mention locally made key lime pie with raspberry, lemon, and lime drizzle? Yeah. Do it.

My wife and I were looking for some bbq and found this place near Anna Maria Beach. I took a look at the menu and noticed it said " Smoked BBQ "! However after ordering the chicken and ribs, they weren't smoked at all! The meats had been oven baked, not grilled or smoked! Don't believe the 4.5 stars! I believe those reviews were mostly friends that wrote them to get Business. Thanks

The service was great and the atmosphere was quirky but the flavour of the food was not distinctly Cajun, Indian, or Southern. Maybe a cross between all but I wasn't a fan. The fried rice that the basic rib plate comes with is drenched (sopping overly sauced is not an exaggeration) in the same disgusting sauce as the ribs. The candied yams aren't candied but coated in some kind of apple pie type sauce sans the apples. It was the best part of my 18$ plate of rice mush and ribs. The ribs were tender but possibly boiled or steamed to finish cooking. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing or it was an odd night for the kitchen but I won't be going back.

This is an interesting place. The atmosphere screams New Orleans but the menu is all over the place. My parents live a block away and they eat here all the time. I've had their "southern food" and it's been good. The prices aren't cheap but nothing on the island is - I'd say it's less than most. Overall a good place to eat.

I found the food here to be average, kinda like it's overall rating. It is a combination bbq-Indian food eatery. The BBQ was average. They pull their pork then add it to the sauce resulting in way too much sauce for my liking. On the positive, the vegetable fried rice that comes with the meal is really good. Overall, an average eatery when you want a break from seafood.

We ordered from door dash. Baked beans and potato salad was delicious. But our hamburgers were raw and burnt and mine only had a tomato on it was supposed to have tomatoes, mayo, lettuce, and pickles would not recommend the hamburgers at all. Very disappointed

The fact that they serve Indian and Thai food in addition to BBQ should have been a tip off. That and the absence of fries from the menu. It seems more like an average Americanized Indian restaurant that tries to market itself as BBQ. My wife thought the Indian food was fine but not special. The "BBQ" was hugely disappointing. Spare ribs were 3 weirdly shaped bones smothered in some sauce that seemed like something poured out of a Kraft bottle and then mixed with sea water. Can definitely skip this on our next visit.

You are greeted by the beer in a self serve coffin filled with ice as soon as you walk in? Morbid to say the least. The menu is as limited as are the weird decorations that adorn the walls. Creepy atmosphere...Your meal comes with 2 sides. They are in tiny suate cups - hardly a taste, not a side by normal definition. The parking area is limited due to a locals bar next door. As we were leaving we came upon a lovely pair of rodents out back...yikes! Our meal did not settle well after that. Too close to a restaurant for us to ever return. Board of health must have missed the pleasure?

Jambalaya had what seemed to be frozen veggies in it(previously frozen cooked carrots were not a good compliment to an otherwise traditional jambalaya). Beer selection was good. Other members in our party liked their food, unfortunately I didn't. I'm sure it's worth a try.

Visited because my daughter and I are newly vegan. Although they did have a vegan menu, we both barely choked down our black bean "veggie" burger. It was basically a whole can of flavorless smashed black beans that fell off the bun as soon as we picked it up. We weren't allowed to ask for salt or pepper as per a large sign on the wall. My husband ordered the Philly cheese steak sandwich which was equally horrible. On the bright side, the veggie fried rice was delicious and my husband very much enjoyed the baked beans.

A friend who is a local recommended we try Mr Bones, and I’m glad we listened. It’s easy to miss but tasty. Prices were higher than expected for a hole-in-the-wall, but the lunch and sandwich menu gave us options. I got the bbq pork sandwich on garlic bread with a side of potato salad. The pork was delicious; the bread was good but had a fish/crayfish smell and taste that turned me off a bit. This was also true of the complimentary garlic bread they brought to the table. My husband liked it, and it may be a seasoning I’m not familiar with—they have a lot of New Orleans and Indian flavors. My husband got the 1/2 rack of baby back ribs with a side of baked beans; both were very good! I’d love to try the cheesy grits sometime!

Tried it in 1994 when I first moved here. Swore I'd never come back. Well, 25 years later, it's just as bad. All I wanted was a darn hamburger. What's with the mayo? And the bottom half is a bun soaked in tomato juice..gag, gag. You are not permitted to choose your own spices, THEY decide for you. Guess I'll try back in another 25 years.

My main complaint is the general attitude of "no condiments don't even ask" They say that there chefs are professionally trained in Louisiana which says nothing about there BBQ skills. This year was my third time there and the first two years were horrible in service and food.... the shrimp and grits were good this year I am not a fan! Who tells individual customers how they like there food? The island is the best spot I have ever been to for vacation and there are so many other good places to eat!

Fun atmosphere! We got our food to go, so I can't comment on how fast the servers are - but everyone that interacted with us was very friendly! Food was good. We got quite a few things including the Philly cheese steak, pulled pork sandwich, and the chicken wings. All very tasty. Definitely recommend!

My father and I dined here for the first time on Father's day. We were highly disappointed. The service was very slow and they were out of a main dish. We never received refills or even knew the waiters name. They offer customers a chance to pick their own beer out of a coffin which is interesting but worrisome because I saw no one being asked for ID and many chances for bottles to be taken. I ordered the Sesame Noodle Chicken and my dad ordered the Pulled Pork Plate. The food came out like warm, covered in excessive amounts of BBQ sauce and was overcooked. I was unable to eat more than a few bites of my meal. They also do not allow any condiments in the dining room. This includes salt and pepper. They have a sign that reads "don't even ask our food is seasoned perfect." We also ordered some food to go. The waiter brought us the check and had forgotten that we had ordered to go when we ordered our meal. We waited a few more minutes and the food came also covered in excessive amounts of sauce. I took payment to the cashier and she asked me about our experience. I told her it was okay. Upon asking me what was okay about it she then gave me an excuse about how they got busy out of the blue on a holiday. She also told me to come back when they weren't as busy for better service. I never got to fully explain my experience because she repeatedly cut me off with excuses. We got home and tried our to go food. We ordered Baby Back Ribs and a Sausage sandwich. Both were tolerable. The ribs were not very tender and had little to no flavor. Needless to say we will not be returning. Prices also seemed high for the quality and portion sizes. Although the free bread given with the meal was pretty good and they do use reusable metal straws.

The food there was ok I make better ribs. And the sign say our food is cooked perfectly so don't ask for any extra stuff. I would not go back.

Small place with a small menu, but the staff was helpful and food tasty. I decided to go with the BBQ pulled chicken. The BBQ sauce it is marinated can be chosen by one of their 5 sauces. I told the waitress I preferred smokey flavored barbecue sauces, so she brought out a little sample of the two smokiest. She advised against a particular sauce for the meal I chose for rational texture reasons. So I appreciated that and decided on the regular BBQ sauce. The sides were also delicious. Had BBQ beans and candied yams. Deserts differ from time to time, but the chocolate cream pie was quite delightful... And this coming from someone who doesn't always care for chocolate. The decor was very impressive for such a small place. Color and eye catching without being obnoxious or too loud.
