I feel bad for whoever owns this place... it open no long ago and i've been there twice and both times its been horrible. The first time i went the manager came to my table and i literaly took a piece of rib knocked the plate with it.. that thing was soo dry and hard it was imposible to eat. The second time food was bad too. Waitress was very nice and quick but i went there to eat so 1 star it is. I was very disapointed because there are no other bbq restaurants close... a shame.. i can cook ribs way better than this bonos.

That three meat hawg salad!!! Nothing like it. This is my go to neighborhood eatery when we have those lazy days. Bonos always hit the spot bbq ribs, mac n cheese, green beans, Turkey inside cut!! You name it, they will come thru sizzling and filling!!

Honestly it was okay but not nearly as good as Oklahoma bbq. The sausage and brisket were very fatty and hard to chew. The corn and green beans were good though. Also they only had mustard style sauces, I prefer regular bbq sauce (hickory and smoked).

Be careful when ordering food from this location. I ordered pulled pork, brisket, sweet potatoes and cole slaw. About an hour after eating it I starting vomiting and had severe stomach pains. I never get sick from food, so there must of been something wrong, either excessive bacteria or some other kind of contamination in the food.

I'm a regular customer here! I've been spending money at this bonos for years because I live down the street. But today one of the workers decided they had the authority to reprimand me for asking for more sauce for my salad. After I had spent $23 on two salads! She informed me that salads only get two ranches and one sauce, anyone who has had the salads know this is no where near enough to cover it(and I have gotten more sauce before). But on top of that she was nasty about it and then gave me the sauce I asked for in a snobby voice as if she was doing me a favor! Definitely will not be spending my money here again especially since the lady was only especially nasty to me, the only black customer in the establishment at the time. I am not making any assumptions but clearly some politeness training is needed for this employee. Happened August 1, 2019 at 8:30pm. Absolutely unacceptable and inappropriate!

Regularly I go to Bono's located on atlantic. Great service great food. But I have come to this location at Duval station twice and both times I was unsatisfied. First of all the waitresses I've had so far have been nice. It's the food that gets me, along with getting basically three tiny pieces (no bigger than the size of an avocado seed) I got mashed sweet potato. I know that doesn't seem like a big problem but every other Bono's I have been to I ask for a BAKED SWEET POTATO not a sweet potato mash casserole. The difference is, with the mash, they mix in whatever they want to put in there. Where as a baked sweet potato comes in tin foil and is not touched. I would much rather drive all the way to the beach and get my untouched sweet potato and my multiple this slices of turkey.

We both were not thrilled with the taste of the BBQ, it was a little spicey for our taste and the meat was dry. We've tried it a couple times now and both times disapointed seeing how that's what they specialize in. We thought the bar down the road had better tasting BBQ.

This was the worst service and food we have ever received. They served me cold mash potatoes and when I told the server she didn't offer to replace them. My husband's rack of were almost cold and the lady's didn t have any sauce on them. Next time we go for BBQ we will go to Sonnys

The food here is always out of this world! But the service ruins your experience. Been going to this Bono’s forever and lately the service has been awful. Extremely rude and shows no interest in the customers needs. Don’t call because they will just pick up and rudely say “putting you on hold” I get it they get busy but come on how hard is it to be more friendly. Also now they only give me enough sauce for one bite of my food due to limitations on how many sauces i can have. If the food wasn’t good my rating would be even lower.

Had 3 meat salad. The meat was first hand cuts, the salad, tomato, cucumber, bellpepper, onion, and cheddar cheese was very fresh and top quality. Very surprised with the quality of the meal. The service; we had a trainee with a trainer for our servers. They were very attentive. There was a small confusion on one of the salads and the issue was resolved immediately. The cook staff was very friendly the workstation was clean and professional. Overall an outstanding and enjoyable dining experience I would recommend.

Wife and I have eaten at 731 Duval location several times. Their portions on their food is well worth the money. My wife favorite is there salads and mine is the bird dog turkey sandwich. We would give a higher rating the only complaint is there food always comes out cold room temperature. Maybe it's because we have an appetizer and it's sets. Now when we ordered we ask for them to put it in the microwave before they bring it out get a dirty look but that's the way to get it hot.

Service wasnt very good first time here and was confused on if we seated ourselves or waited so after waiting a few minutes while girls were at the counter i just called out and the cook went to get a girl from the back. There was a total of 3 people in there and at least 5 waitress so not sure why they were being slow. Waitress didnt recommend anything or tell us about daily specials didnt get refills or ask if we need a box to go or anything just handed us the check in the middle of eating. Rude and slow overall which is a shame since food was okay.

I like this Bono’s location because of its location and its proximity in my daily commute. If you’re from Jacksonville, then you know what Bono’s is. Bono’s is quality bbq at reasonable prices. I always get the large two meat platter: brisket and ribs. They have a vast selection of sauces but I recommend their sweet and tangy sauce. The only downfall of this location is that they have a bbq that is open and visible to the dining area. Their ventilation does not do a good job of capturing the smoke and often lingers in the dining area. You will smell like bbq smoke all day after leaving this location. - Ansel Ponce Diama

I forgot to take a before picture. Lol!!! I got the Turkey Sandwich though. I wasn't a fan of the meat. It was really tender and not the typical meat consistency I'd expect. Everything else was really good and the sauces as well. The service was nice and our waitress was really friendly and kept checking in on us. :)

Cute waitress, over priced, meat didn't taste smoked as expected, misleading portions on menu. For example, gal said two pieces is the small size. I get a breast with a bone of a wing hanging off. I asked where the other piece was and she said it's the wing. At least they could have separated them and make look like two pieces. Brunswick stew was less than average. I did like their 4 different BBQ sauces kept at the table. I couldn't make up my mine which one I favored the most.

Met friends from out of town here on a Thursday at lunch time. It wasn't crowded and the service was great- our waitress had our teas and took our orders in no time. Our lunches were served quickly and everything was fresh and hot. The pork and the beef was well cooked with a great smoky flavor. If you are tired of the liquid smoke, microwave heated fare at other places, try here. We think this is easily the best Bono's in Jacksonville. EDIT: On our last two visits this Bono's has gone downhill. A month ago I ordered beef brisket. It was cold, the meat tasted like warmed-over stew meat. My wife's pork was cold and the fries cold and limp. We returned yesterday and we both got the pork platter. The Texas toast was dripping with margarine and soggy. The beans and slaw were good, but the pork was cold and tasteless and the fries were cold. I'm changing my rating from a 5 star to a 2 star for the beans and slaw not being as bad as the rest of the meal. I don't think we'll be back.

I have high expectations for BBQ as several family members smoke and cook meats. This place is excellent. The beef brisket was juicy, tender, and tasty. And the collard greens (tender and tasty) and red-skinned potato salad (flavorful without being salty) did not disappoint. Others in my group were equally pleased with the ribs, brisket and half chicken, fries and fried corn.

My wife and I visit here from time to time and split a three meat BBQ salad and fried squash. The price is not expensive and just the right amount for two people. The service has always been good and they comeback to check on you often to ask if we need anything. The have large tables for groups too.

The food is ALWAYS fabulous which is the one thing that keeps the doors open. The service is never very friendly and I've been overcharged or double charged more than once. When proving, by showing my bank statement AND by a bank rep, ON THE PHONE, I was still questioned about the double charge and had to wait for the manager/owner to review ALL of the receipts from 2 days prior, to prove that I was indeed charged 2ce. It wasn't really the fact that he wanted to be sure, that bothered me. It was the way he made me feel that I was trying to pull one over on him, that rubbed me wrong. It was the 3rd time, in 2 days, that I'd come in to address the issue. Each time, I'd been brushed off by the cashier, server or mgr on duty. The thing is, over the course of 10 working days, I'd had lunch there, 7 of them!!! As I first mentioned, the food is ALWAYS really super but unless I'm working near by, I won't be going back to this location.

I got hired here & started work on 10/31. I noticed that they hired me for Fry Cook, yet they expected me to do the job equivalent to a sous-chef/assistant sous-chef. They expect you to do wayyyy more than what the position they hired you on for. They expect you to be able to cook food, read tickets & expedite orders, prep food, wash dishes (even when the service is slow and the servers are standing around doing nothing) - basically run the kitchen all by yourself, even when its busy. Also, I observed employees on their phones while at work... Something that is very UNPROFESSIONAL! Food was not tempt & there was no temp logs to keep track of food temperatures (violation of health regulations!) They had me working a double shift on 11/05 from open to close (10am - 9pm; 11hrs) & they did not give me a 30min lunch break in between (violation of labor law!). Then the next day that I was supposed to work a double shift, all I did was show up to work ON TIME & asked if I could get off at 4pm, due to the fact that I was not feeling well & physically could not work all day. They let me go home at 2:30, then had the nerve to call me the next day & fire me over the phone... All because I asked to go home early. By the way... If you call out sick, they'll fire you for that too. So its a catch 22 situation; BE DAMN if you do show up & try to work even though youre sick & BE DAMN if you call out sick, cause they'll fire you for doing that as well! They expect you to work all day in the kitchen with no kitchen mats to stand on (violation of health regulations!). One of the managers here had me doing other stuff besides doing what I was hired to do. I was hired as a cook; I wasnt hired to help put up stuff off the delivery truck or to wash dishes. The owner Mr. Dan keeps complaining that people wont show up for interviews & now, I see WHY. But after this review, he's REALLY gonna have even MORE of a hard time getting folks to show up or even want to work at this location. They had the NERVE to say that I didnt want to work... REALLY?? A person that gets up at 6:30 in the morning, has to catch two buses across town, then gets off at River City Marketplace & has to walk a good 45min to get to the job & walk 45min from the job back to River City Marketplace just to catch the bus back downtown & then another bus back home... THAT PERSON doesnt wanna work?? Child PLEASE!! They need to stop making stuff up - no wonder they cant get people to show up for interviews!! If I didnt wanna work, I wouldnt have even showed up for the interview, much less put in 40hrs of work over a 7 day period. Heres a tip: Next time you wanna fire someone, try having the cahones to look them in the eye face to face & let them know theyre fired; not punk out & do it over the phone. COWARD!!

We went for ribs and the waitress told us about a 2 for 22 special that we could order. Get the same meals for less and includes a heaping bowl of their banana pudding. Food was good except my corn which tasted overcooked. The beans are the best and a must have for me. The servings were very generous. 5 ribs each. Waitress didn't bring refills on the drinks, or I would've given 5 stars. I will go back again

I ordered a take out order from the window; waitress got the order right but when I got home the order was wrong. My family was hungry after a long day, sat down and ate what was right about the order as I went to get a refund of the the incorrect item. Arrived and waited for the manager to come talk to me as I watchered her for 5 minutes making garlic bread, the waitress then went to remind her that I was STILL waiting (as my family was at home eating without me and the veggie of the 40 dollar order). Finally she came over with a “bothered” unfriendly look on her face and told me that she could not give me a replacement order AND my money back. It is one or the other. I feel that I should have been refunded the cost of the item (8$) and given the item for the inconvenience to me and my family. Now I missed dinner and am very unhappy writing a review of Bono’s, which by the way will never have my business again, and I will tell all of my friends in the neighborhood the experience I was given there by the manager that could not help make my experience better with the business. She only said that the owner would not like for her to do that. If that is the case then shame on the owner!!!
