Went for the first time this week. The shrimp and cheese grits were fantastic. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and they know how to do grits right! My friend loved the BBQ chicken salad. She had a craft beer and I had one of their drinks. Service was perfect...thank you, Joe. The only downside was the noise level was really high but that's to be expected at 6:30.

This is a review of two meals. I have been to Ulysses twice in the last week, once for lunch and later for dinner. I’ll start with the good. Went to lunch last week with my wife. I had the Pastrami Reuben. The reuben came on toasted dark rye bread and was delicious. It came with a huge wedge of dill pickle, and lots of chips. One of the best sandwiches I have had in a long time and plenty on the plate. My wife had ham and cheese sliders with salad which were equally as good. Service was very good also. We were very impressed. Move ahead to the following Wed. I have dinner with a friend from church on Wed. evenings every couple of weeks, so I suggested going to Ulysses because of the previous lunch and the fact that a friend of ours told us Wed. is half price burger night. We both ordered the classic burger. No sooner than we place our order the food was on the table. I have had to wait longer for a burger at McDonalds than it took to shovel this thing out of the kitchen. I asked for medium burger was an the rare side, nothing but a bun, one slab of cheese and a patty. We added fries (up charge) over the chips. I got a small hand full of French fry pieces. I’m sorry I didn’t take a picture so you could see the sad appearance of the plate. To its credit the sad little burger was tasty, but that really didn’t make up for the whole experience. I was still hungry so I ordered the bread pudding which was good but the portion was way to big and landed in my stomach like a brick. If I were to base my review on lunch it would be a good one. However, the dinner experience left me with a very bad impression. I therefore lowered my overall score. This is where I think Google should increase the rating system for restaurants to 1 thru 10. To me this place is better than a 3 (based on the lunch) but not a quite a 4 (based on the dinner in fact if I was grading on dinner only it would be a 3 or less) (I am hard pressed on this system to give 5's) on a 1 to 10 this would be a 7.9.

Updated 4/4/2018: We stopped in last night. The restaurant section was basically empty, and they had 2 servers, but the service was very slow. My wife's turkey burger had 3 bones in it. To be fair, she didn't tell me until after we left - only because she knew that I would tell the server. Nonetheless, very disappointed. I think we'll be looking elsewhere for good food in Wilmington next time... ---------------------------------------------------------------- Good select of beer on tap with constant rotation. When becomes keg empty, they replace it when the beer "on deck" which is the beer on the right side of the menu. The food is very good too. If you like deep fried food then try the chips or tots. The entrees are very filling even on an empty stomach. Service was very good, friendly atmosphere with excellent hospitality. I will return!

Excellent food and service. I went with a group of friends on a busy Friday night. The waitress was friendly and helpful. She never let our water glasses run empty and was quick to help us decide what to order. I had the lobster roll and it was buttery and delicious. My friends had the flatbread and they commented that the food was delicious. I would go back.

Thoroughly enjoyed are happy hour there as I had to Founder's nitro Rubaeus. Dry rub wings were excellent as was the poutine. The only thing that struck me as odd was that there were no spirits on the happy hour list. Something they will hopefully change in the near future.

Always a great dinner at the pub. Usually a crowd so be prepared for a 30 minute wait. The staff are a well oiled friendly machine from Morgan behind the bar who walks around the outskirts of the bar and offers a cocktails to the ones who haven't got lucky enough to get a seat at the bar to Taylor our hostest who got the Phillies Game on ASAP after getting seated and BJ our waiter was awesome.

Place a reservation for a work event gathering on a Sunday afternoon. Staff looked shocked when we arrived as if no one alerted them as to the size of the party due to arrive for the reservation. No unison amongst the staff as to who were going to be the tables main host. We had one host for alcoholic drinks, one for orders, and it seemed 2 other staff members, one was possibly the manger on duty at the time, overseeing the whole to ensure things would go smoothly. They did not. Multiple orders placed either arrived wrong, or were just flat out the wrong item. One person asked for a crab cake sandwich, they received a crab cake dinner. Another party member ordered an item with grits, that were more liquid than solid food. Staff was nice enough to allow her to exchange her meal, but then the 2nd item had issues as well as they did not have the components to make the item they had on their menu. She was not told this till a significant amount of time after the order was placed. She then had to place an order for a 3rd meal but by that point our party had already finished our meals so she had to ask for it to go. And that's just 2 issues out of meals delivered to our party of 16, there were more but at that point most of us just decided to let it be as turn around times weren't worth it. Our bill was over 700 dollars after gratuity was added and I can ensure you that none of us felt that the service or food provided was worth that kind of money. Don't get me wrong, for the most part,the staff was trying their best to be accommodating and keep the evening on the right course, but for those prices you would expect to have a far better experience. At least the drinks weren't watered down.

This place has the best fish and chips I have ever had in my life. I love fish and chips and I have had it in England even. The crisp on the beer batter was even and perfect. The tartar sauce was well balanced and the malted vinegar aioli rocked my palate. The fries were crunchy in the right places and salty. My server Carolyn was super attentive to my medical needs and timeline too. She was fast and efficient and super friendly. You absolutely must try the crab nachos, you wouldn't think this combo would work but it did. They balanced the crab and lime and cheese and cheese sauce perfectly. Good guac too!

I really only went for drinks but the bar was packed so we got a table. (This was a Saturday night) the place was clean and the staff seemed friendly. Our server Joe was really great. He helped us choose drinks and an appetizer that we really enjoyed. They had some pretty amazing sounding things on the menu. Considering it was a Saturday night the restaurant part wasnt insane, we were seated right away, but like I said the bar was packed.

Went for lunch and ordered a $9 beet salad, assuming it was an entree at that price. It was very small. Definitely side salad sized. It also was pretty bland, which is my fault for not reading the description better. It had micro greens, beets, and goat cheese. That's it. The caesar my friend ordered was 3 times bigger and the same price.

Always great. Tremendous selection of beers on tap, and the menu gives tons of options. Never had a bad meal. Today, I made a special request (no mushrooms on my cheesesteak). Sandwich came out with mushrooms, but the server immediately took the plate and I had a brand new sandwich within minutes. Mistakes happen! No complaints!

Wonderful menu with lighter fare like sandwiches & pizza, & a lively, well planned selection of entrees. There were 10 of us, we were all well fed & happy. I have been visiting this place for a long time for both lunch and dinner, and it really does deliver excellent food and service consistently. Rustic and modern decor makes the expierence comfortable. They have a large craft beer selection which has it's unique variety. Smoked wings are awesome!

Very relaxed environment. Waitresses could be a little more on top of table but they had very down to earth personalities. Order the pretzels! They are delicious! I had a peach lemonade. It was also delicious and sweet. Cozy atmosphere.

Great casual spot for grabbing dinner or drinks with family, significant other, or friends. Very good and diverse menu, especially with the beer selection, and the food was delish. Wait staff were fairly attentive and pleasant to interact with. Atmosphere was lively but too noisy or obnoxious. Decor is somewhat on the rustic side, but more modern if that makes sense. Plenty of TV's. Only con is that the waitress seemed unfamiliar with the menu when asked about specific items. I would def go back again if in the area.

Walked in at 6:50pm and seated by 7:05. No problem. Ordered drinks and dinner simultaneously. Flatbread, burger and sliders. Meal came out at almost 8pm. It took just under an hour to cook flatbread and burgers. Other families seated after us had finished their meal and left by the time we were eating. There's no reason to have to wait that long for those items. Won't be returning any time soon. Shame - I used to like the place.

I stopped in for a beer and snack while my son and his friends had cake and pizza for a birthday party across the street. Great selection of craft beers and the food was pretty good as well. Service was prompt as I sat at the bar. Plan on coming back tomorrow with the family when we return to the escape rooms a couple doors down.

We love that the food is largely locally sourced. The restaurant has a good feel. We got two entrees: the burger was way over done and the steak was a little tough, but they asked us if the meat was cooked properly and we didn't say anything. I'm sure they would have made it right. The sides and starters were all incredible. They have tons of gluten-free options! They increased the price for the steak and mashed potatoes to be prepared gluten-free, but we weren't sure why. It didn't look like anything was changed that should have increased the cost. Overall, we really liked it.

Standard, well-executed American fair, and a convenient location! Can be a bit crowded at dinner time, usually office happy hours pack in on Fridays, but with the right timing this can be avoided. The pretzel sticks, Joyce burger, and bread pudding are all our favorites!

This is one of my favorite new places, and completely surprising for it's location in a North Wilmington strip mall. Absolutely love this place. GREAT beer list, with tons of variety. The menu is fun and unusual. Most recently, the shrimp lejon flat bread was overdone, but this was the first misstep in nine meals there, and I will certainly return and try it again. Finally, I am in a wheelchair. The restaurant is easily accessible, and the staff is kind, friendly and accommodating.

I used to frequent this place because of the great food and service, but haven't been there in a while. I decided to go back, and have to say, time has not been their friend. Although the atmosphere and decor has remained relevant and inviting, the food and service has suffered the ravages of time. My waitress was preoccupied with hanging out in the back with her co-workers and seemed to have an attitude whenever she actually made time to come to our table. Our entrees we're cold, when they finally arrived and looked as though a Parkinson's afflicted toddler had played our food. The only positive was our appetizer, the Pork Poutine, which was delicious. Unfortunately, this place will no longer be on my "short list" of tasty, consistent Delaware eateries☹️

First time here was today. I had the fried pickels as an app and they were great! They're dill spears with a really good dipping sauce! However, I got the tres tacos, 2 beef and 1 shrimp. The shrimp wasn't awesome but it wasn't bad either. The steak ones? No. The meat was cold, hardly any meat on it anyway, and limited sauce on the taco. More lettuce than anything. Not to mention the steak didn't even taste seasoned. I won't be ordering that again.

My sister and I went to this place to eat our lunch. The food was great but the waitress didn’t do too much to help. We only had a limited amount of money so we payed our bill in full and proceeded to leave. The waitress yelled at us in front of everyone and made it seem like we were rude for not giving her the biggest tip. We apologized and continued on our way but the way she handled the situation was rude and inconsiderate

Went here for dinner on a Friday evening. Service was really bad from the time we entered. The hostess was extremely cold in the way she greeted us. Steaks and salads were brought out at the same time instead of serving appetizers first. Steaks were cold and were probably sitting in the kitchen waiting for the servers to carry them out. We paid around $25 per entree and totally not worth it. Air conditioning was really bad too. Left midway as the food was horrible. It's just a bar hole in the wall kind of place. Definitely won't recommend going here.

I really want to like Ulysses, and tried extensively because of the fantastic food and great beer selection, but the service is absolutely horrendous almost every time. Just my last time there, at the bar, I asked asked for a beer and water before my meal and ended up finishing my meal before even being and knowledged again and still no drinks. Then I was given attitude by the girl when I tried to get her attention so I just got my tab instead. But there was plenty of time for the staff socialize with with each other and texting on their phones. I won't bother bringing up the other awful experiences I've had there. I'll stick to my regular place 2 Stone which is very close and significantly better all around. So disappointing.

Good beer selection with nice decor. Update 1 year later. Previous comment still is valid, but I lowered to 3 stars. They really deserve 3.5, but it is not an option. We brought out of town guest on a Monday at 645pm for dinner. We sat and ordered drinks. The dining area was so incredibly loud I almost recommended we leave. Waitress was personable and seemed to know the menu. I would have liked her to check on our drinks more frequently in the first half of dinner, but as the restaurant emptied this got better. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I had the jambalaya which was very tasty. I will come here for drinks in the future because the bar area is sizable, but will not dine in.

Sad, dissapointing customer service. Crabmeat was rancid in the dinner my friend ordered. How they didn't smell it in the kitchen or when the waitress served it was incredible. I had to go to the hostess stand twice to get our waitress to come by to order something else - 45 minutes later, still no sign of the other dinner, no one came to the table to apologize, or offer my friend anything in the meantime. My friend was the only African-American person in the place, so it was upsetting for us both. My third time to the hostess stand, I asked for the check and said that it had been too long, we had to go. The waitress brought a bill for all 3 meals. I told her I was only paying for the one that I ate, then she said it was an accident. On the way out, I told my friend I'd meet her at the car, then I said something to the women at the hostess stand, and one woman said she was the assistant manager, and I should have come and told her. I told her that I had to come up, 2 people had been there, I'd spoken to two waitresses, and our waitress said she was going to speak to the chef, so that's 5 people who knew. Her staff should know to say something to her, and it wasn't the customer's job to find her. Instead of apologizing, offering anything for the future, or even saying what she would have done, she put it back on me and said, Still, I should have asked for her! As I was turning to leave she smiled, and said cheerily, she hoped that I'd come again. "You'll be coming back again, won't you?"

It's ok. They didn't seem busy, but it was really loud. The waiter was excellent, but the food wasn't great. I ordered the jambalaya, which he commented after was his favorite thing on the menu. The food came out very fast, right after our drinks, which were not late. The jambalaya was good, but very tomato-y. We also tried the swordfish. It was bland. Prices weren't terribly high, but would have been more reasonable if the food was more flavorful. There drink menu was nice and diverse.

If I could give them a zero...I would. Ordered the dry rub wings. They were so overcooked they were like rocks. Politely sent them back to the kitchen, and was not interested in getting a "replacement order". The waiter charged me on the bill for food that I didn't eat. Terrible food, worse customer service. There are too many great local restaurants to ever go back here again.

Food is great, but it’s intolerably loud inside. I’ve eaten there twice and both times the food was amazing and the decibel count was through the roof. The first time I had fish and chips, they were wonderful. I couldn’t hear the person I went with because the place was busy, and everyone was yelling to talk over each other. Tonight I went back and was seated next to a table of ten (wine moms and middle-aged gay men, all blitzed), who screamed and cackled the entire time, again making it difficult to hear both the people I was with and the server. My burger was done to perfection and a bargain for what it was. My ears are still ringing. I would highly recommend getting food here after visiting a local gun range to borrow some of their protective earmuffs to wear during your meal.

Really enjoyed the apps that we had with a group of 12 for happy hour. The staff worked out a problem with the tables that we had reserved and was helpful throughout the evening.

Update 7/22/19: Yesterday, Ulysses hosted a baptism brunch for 30 of our family members. At our request they opened an hour early on Sunday and provided a limited menu of options for our guests. Our family raved about the food, especially enjoying the Shrimp and Grits and the Scrapple Benedict. The service, led by waiter Joe, was outstanding. Original: One of our favorite local restaurants. A great, rotating craft beer list and high-quality, delicious food options. Lunch faves include wings, sandwiches, and the poutine. Topping the brunch offerings is an extremely tasty chicken and waffles. You won't regret eating here.

Just came here for lunch after a fun afternoon activity. The place was nice. Food was good and service was pretty good. My husband loved the choices of craft beer. He is still trying to figure out why we haven't been here before. But I am sure we will be coming back.
