Great staff, the best fish and chips. If you like football(European and American leagues) especially the Philadelphia union team they frequent after games. It's a great little community and hard work of keeping it authentic in the food and atmosphere to a little pub in Europe.
First time here! Very clean establishment! Plenty of parking easy in and out! The food was good at a decent price. The staff very friendly and helpful! Started to get crowded around happy hour. Would like to come back here again and try more items on the menu. Have heard a lot about the place and finally got the chance to try it myself!
Great British pub! Bangers and mash, shepherd's pie. Always lots of friendly people to talk to, warm and cozy feel. St. Patty's is especially enjoyable with Piper's playing all night! Proprietor Mike Stone is a super nice guy, make sure to introduce yourself!
Stoney's is a typical English pub in the middle of Wilmington Delaware I just spend some time in the UK and I can affirm that stonies it's pretty authentic. One interesting thing about Stoney's is that the owner used to be an A&R man and worked with a lot of very top tier musical acts the photos of those people with the owner are all over the bar. The food on the menu is all very English including dishes like toad in hole, bangers and mash, and of course fish and chips. If you enjoy English food you will enjoy Stoney's likewise if you enjoy a pint of Guinness or boddingtons also on tap you enjoy Stoney's. Please click 'like' if you like my reviews...
Like being back in Britain. Friendly staff, very good food (the Yorkshire puddings are excellent). Excellent single malt selection.
Always a crowd favorite! Best Fish & Chips this side of the pond. Excellent food & service
Great Food, Wonderful Beer selection and the ability to watch rugby!
Shepherd's pie was very good and great atmosphere! Only negative thing is the beer is pricey, would of bought more if it was cheaper.
Great fun if you are a Britophile! Extensive beer and whisky collection
Great food and service bartender very good.
Great little place. Had fish and chips and they were excellent. First time having scotch eggs.
Love the authentic menu and love they put into it
Great environment!!!:)
Service was great Food not so much
Great breakfast, little over priced.. This breakfast should be offered a few more days a week and specifically on Sundays. When you could really make $$$$.
Food: Some great tradition British pub food like fish n' chips, bangers and mash, etc. Everything is clean and authentic. Atmosphere: Could be a little better kept up, but a very homey and authentic feel to the place. Service: Could be a little faster but friendly and polite.
Great service, great food!
British food, british beer and seats available at the bar on a Friday night. Live music was fun too.
The atmosphere and service were fantastic, but the food sidn't meet our expectations. We ordered the traditional fry up for breakfast and the eggs were burnt and the baked beans were stone cold. It's worth a visit just for the experience though!
Great authentic English foods and drinks. They offer the best fish and chips around.
The fish and chips were excellent. Nice and cozy place to eat with a friendly staff. It is a cute little slice of england right here in the USA. The prices were on the high side but not overly so. I look forward to returning again and again. The only caveat is the parking. The parking lot is very small but that seems to be par for the course of establishments on 202.
They were out of Yorkshire pudding. Fries and shrimp were good
Love British pubs. Stoney is very friendly. Lots of history. He has great stories.
Fresh, authentic British food! And the owner, Mike Stone is a real hoot! Always enjoy our time there!
This place is wonderful for a lot of reasons. On match days, Stoney greets everyone who comes through his bright, red door. Wait service is impeccable. You have drink and a menu before you can take your jacket off. The bar area itself can be kind of tight, depending on the game, but there are plenty of high-top tables and booths to go around where the waitress is just as quick with your pints. There’s not a bad seat in the house to watch any of the of the huge, high-def screens. The crowd is a mix of locals, a few British ex-pats, and always a few new-comers, which makes for a fun, eclectic, even family-like atmosphere on Saturday and Sunday mornings. On top of the great service and ambience, the food and drink selection is just outstanding. The fish and chips are wonderful, as are the beer and scotch selections which are poured generously. My favorite is the Traditional Fry-up breakfast, though it’s only available on Saturday mornings. You could bring anybody here and have a good time. It’s just 15-20 minutes south of Philly/Delco. Stop paying $12 to park in the city and come to a real Pub.
The food was British. Confirmed
Stoney's pub had good atmosphere, great staff, nice music and very good fish and chips.
Nice place good wine selection and good staff
What a cute place. The waitress was terrific and helpful. I had fish and chips, along with a salad. The fish was made with whitefish and was crispy and crunchy. Delicious! They even had HP sauce, a mild type of Worcestershire. I shared a dessert with my friend. Bread pudding with a delicious custard. We kept eating it with our spoons.
A comfortable and homey bar with friendly peoplr and bartender. There are many repeat customers here.
Great place for fish n chips!!
Best Fish and Chips in Delaware
Great experience here, lucky enough to get to chat with the owner. Ask about the pictures on the walls, a life well lived, serving up authentic Brit pub food with special nights. Have attended wonderful whiskey tastings. Get over there and try it.
Cozy little English pub that plays soccer/football matches!
Great place to drink. Beer selection is good but expensive. They open during EPL season for breakfast which is traditional English fare. Can't recommend enough
Went for the music, would go back for the friendly atmosphere and great beer selection. We spoke to Stoney, and having spent time in the music industry himself, he seems to want to only showcase local talent that is worth seeing. The British themed menu was fun, but the food was just ok. All in all though, a pleasant experience worth repeating.
Awesome food & drinks! Not sure if they were having issues with the air conditioning or what but it was VERY hot. Waitstaff was nice but very slow. Waited about 10 mins before being acknowledged we were there but once did we were seated right away. Would definitely go back.
Great service, friendly, fast, on the ball. No actual IPA on tap. Soup was very good. Scotch egg was $8 and was absolutely the worst scotch egg I have ever had. It was cold, (refrigerated) and cut into 8 skinny crumbled yolk wedges amounting to $1 each. Meat had no flavor at all and breading was mushy. Fish N chips were solid and tasty as well as the Bridie, a dish of puffed pastry meat and gravy. But I came for a scotch egg and will not be getting another, ever! Total was $56 and we tipped $11.
Best fish and chips this side of the pond!
Solid food and an amazing selection of beer and whisky
Great fries! Chips?
The wait staff is very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the special: Whitefish Chowder. It tasted so fresh and there were large chunks of fish in EVERY bite. I've never been to an actual British pub, but I feel that the ambience, menu, and decor reflect the authenticity very well. I would definitely come here again and would recommend this to a friend.
Good food good music
Great Wings and Deserts! Will definitely be back.
Fish and chips were ok. 8.50 for an average imported beer on tap.
Excellent food, fantastic service. An amazing place that I highly recommend. It's your own fault if you leave here hungry!
I'm not sure if they enjoy their new found fame. It's pricey to eat with kids. Drinks are NOT included in the kids meal and the kids meals are pricey. 6.99 and up. They also were much friendlier to the regulars. They had a lady that was very nice to kids I guess she was a musician there. Fish & chips were good but on the greasy side. Also the chips were mostly burnt. Only had a chance to savor a few. In the interest of so many other options that are very welcoming to kid pricing with better food... I probably won't go back.
Excellent banger and mash.
Best fish and chips in the area !
As always, delicious food. Great place for watching the best in football..... One does wonder why they serve "shepherds" pie, when in fact what they serve is actually a "cottage" pie....... Another great visit.... Thanks Mike for bringing your moms recipes to this part of the world......
Best pub around, true to the core. Go during a soccer match, because they're always on, and tell me it isn't the best environment. I've met someone new every time I've been in. And the fish and chips are top shelf and it's one of the only places in Delaware that has Old Speckled Hen on tap!
I love this place. The only reason I gave 4/5 stars is because I think the drinks are overpriced.
Small but nice atmosphere, good beer selection and fish and chips were excellent
Great food friendly staff!
Can't say I've ever been to this pub, because it's just a little to far away from my neck of the woods lol. From the pictures I have to say doesn't look too bad for a local pub. Dude from across the pond ;)
Great drink and food. Recommended.
Best fish and chips around. We drive from Baltimore for them when we can!
Portions disproportionate to the price.
An English pub tucked in a corner of Route 202 in North Wilmington. Authentic British food and a great choice of beers and ale from Great Britain and Ireland.
Wished they had used fresh potatoes and a true English gravy instead of an jus. The highlight of the pub was our waitress and the phenomenal 3 piece band.. They are worth coming back for.
Only real British pub in Wilmington. An area institution. Lots of regulars. Excellent fish and chips. Great location to watch Premier league or to eat after a Union game.
Food was good, but overpriced. My fish and chips seemed more like a plate of chips with a side of fish. They do have a good beer selection but again, it seems a bit overpriced. It's pretty quiet at lunch so good place to have lunch with a friend.
Best fish and chips ever! And Yorkshire pudding, omg!
Good old pub style, had a couple ales, and good dinner. Can't ask for much more.
Love the pub food! Bangers and mash, steamed fish and cabbage are two of the favorites, but majority of the dishes won't disappoint. Fried Mars bar or unique treats for desserts -- always tasty. Nice beer menu. Wines are ok. Always sporting events on, even cricket. Good live music. And now a book club and other events too.
Excellent fresh fish and chips and pickled onions. Best I’ve had in the USA. As an expat it’s so nice to get good British food
What a great place. Awesome food co worker told me to try . First went with my wife then went back with are boys and there are still three more things on menu I am going back for
You have to try this place
Awesome!!!
Great Place to meet good people. Stoney is the best, greets everyone on enters his establishment.
Nice place. Friendly
Great food and atmosphere
Great atmosphere
Good guinness! I haven't eaten there in a while, but I remember the good being good. Nice staff as well.
Food was ok, service, beer, and atmosphere great!
Food just ok . Prices high for what you get. But a good place to go drinking.
Great atmosphere, service, beer and Yorkshire pudding
the bands are good. never tried the food.
"Food was ok, beer, and atmosphere great! Stoney clearly likes people and meets and greets folks, and has a great following at his pub. But the years have gone by and the place is tiresome. Last night my wife had the Birdie and I ordered Beef & Yorkshire Pudding or as the yanks call it “pop overs” It took a while to get the food out as the place was busy. It would have been nice to have some Bisto Gravy for the Yorkshire, instead its French an au jus sauce or beef broth. Long gone is the HP Sauce, and other sides. Even if it’s a pub, the food could be better. I wish I could call Gorden Ramsey or Delia Smith to fix up the place a bit. It would be nice to be offered Specials or other choices. The décor could be meddled with too. The servers were inattentive, once served our food never offered to get fresh drinks or ask if we needed anything. I would have ordered a second drink if given the opportunity. By the way Stoney, Shepard’s Pie is lamb, not beef!
Great food and great staff. Favorite has to be the fish and chips.
Excellent food! Stoney came over to give a personal touch. Toad in the hole was the best!
Good appetizers, cocktails and good music.
I'm guessing most of the reviewers before me are not Brits? I've been there twice and am not hugely impressed. The "shepard's pie" is actually cottage pie (no lamb in it y'see) and they had absolutely no hard ciders on tap and only Magners in a bottle. That said, the food there is very good. Frankly their beer selection is nothing better than any other bar. You can order all of the tap beers from the wholesaler . Every time I've been in there I've been subjected to American Football. Where's the cricket or the rugby or the football (the real one that you play with your feet)? I asked the staff to change to the cricket and they said they didn't know how or what channel. As for Stoney? Never met him. Does he even exist? The outside looks very dated and don't ask me what flags are painted on the awnings. They are none that I recognise.
The fish and chips were great. It's kinda funny that we went there for a Monday night football game while traveling through town. I'm guessing it would be fun during a premier league game.
This place was great! Opening the door into England with great food. All kinds of pale ale and good domestic draft. The food was very good for a pub. The bartender was a sweetheart and made us laugh and told us about the history of the pub. Sit down dining and bar seating. I would definitely go back on my next business trip.
Came for the Boddingtons on tap...the food was very good. Best fish and chips and great English vibe.
The staff was great. It was within walking distance from where we were staying but we drove. I ordered the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. The food had no taste. The Yorkshire pudding had been baked previously and reheated, it was dry and hard. The roast beef had very little flavor. I had to add salt to everything including the mashed potatoes which had a grain like texture. My husband had the shepherd's pie and he said it had little flavor. If we are in Wilmington again, I won't be going back.
Stoney's is the perfect neighborhood pub. Delightful atmosphere. Pretty good food. Outstanding staff. And a great bar. This has been our refuge. And, as we make our way home after a year-and-a-half, we will remember Michael and his staff with fondness. Thanks!
Great Imports on tap! Scotch Eggs, Sausage Rolls, Fish & Chips, Shepherd's Pie! Best and prettiest bartenders to be found ! Stay off the moors!
Great British pub. Real fun place,
The food was quite good. Real mashed potatoes and flaky crust on the sausage rolls. The service could've been more attentive. No one checked on me after my meal arrived nor asked if I wanted another cider. Might give it another try when not by myself.
Great drinks, food and service plus they had live jazz music....cannot wait to go again. Rule Britannia!!!!
It was fabulous definitely 5 stars and more from the food to the service I will be back
Very disappointing. No fish. Slow service.
Will return to try other dishes .very nice atmosphere . Had a great. Father's day
As an English man living in the USA, I love this place and they sell London Pride....
Fantastic place. Best Guinness this side of the pond!
Great fish and chips. Incredible selection of fine whiskeys like I've never seen before. Cool place.
Best fish n chips I've ever had
A classic in all regards. Food, drink, and atmosphere always spot on...
Love watching soccer games here
Consistently delightful and surprising. Had the classic Fish and Chips (always amazing) and Shepherds Pie. There was a great group performing with a Recorder, mouth organ and host of harmonic instruments.
Love it. Great food and atmosphere
While they might not have table clothes or cloth napkins the dinning experience at Stoney's was excellent.Food freshly prepared. Not from a box or microwave.Peas were a side vegetable and they were fresh.Good wholesome food.Desserts were excellent and they also have a decent draft beer selection.Well worth a try.
Love it here. The people are extremely sweet. Don't be surprised if they treat you like a regular after one visit. They tend to have music here a few days a week, and they do it right. Most people who go here regularly will rave about the wings. And rightly so! They're fantastic. All in all, just a really welcoming, laid back environment.
Passed by here for years and finally stopped in for dinner. Very welcoming staff and friendly owner. Food was good and so were the prices. An unexpected surprise was live music by the O'Rourkes. They were wonderful and we were encouraged to stay as long as we wished to enjoy them. We'll definitely be back!
Cute place with tasty food. Will return for sure!
Terrible food, terrible ambience, terrible server and terrible service. I ordered chicken tenders and they fried frozen chicken and gave it to me. Left the whole plate untouched after my first bite.
Fun place, great service, good food, live music! Will go again.
went to lunch with a few coworkers for a birthday and our waitress gave us a free slice of cake, great service!
Great fish and chips. Friendly service
Good food friendly people and never too packed
Great experience. I had the fish and chips, wonderful, flaky Whiting...super crispy breading, but not greasy! Chips were done perfectly, had this with a chocolate stout. Bread pudding for dessert ...omg! Awesome food ... I will definitely go back!!!
Atmosphere and beer selection were great. I was disappointed by the bangers and mash. If that is traditional sausage served in England I'll stay in the US. Hospitality was great though. I should have gotten the fish and chips, as I was told that was delicious. I will try again, but only after I forget about how abismal that banger was. Sausage flavored mush in a casing.
A wonderful dining experience . I usually get the Shepherd's Pie, Bangers & Mash or Fish & Chips. The beer list is extensive with traditional English brands. Delaware's best English Pub.
Amazing staff. Emily is a rockstar!!
Great comfort food. Friendly bartender . Shepherd's pie and fish and chips were delicious. Chips hand cut. Friendly and welcoming!
The best fish and chips you'll find on this side of the pond, but the entire menu is worth trying out.
Grate food from as cross the pond
Great food and great music!
Great place to watch games!
Fish and chips are great, bangers and mash are delicious, Sheppard's pie is so good! I haven't found a thing that I won't eat there. I even like their blood sausage, which is served during breakfast when The Premier League is on. He's got a great beer selection, and the atmosphere is lively!
Dude, this place is great. Great libations, great British food and great people. The owner has all types of events and it's a very friendly atmosphere. You bet you want to go there.
First time I went there ( after seeing them on Guy's show) hubby had the fish & chips he loved it. I had the Yorkshire Pudding & beef. Pudding was good, beef was not tender at all & very tough. Good drinks though. Tried them one more time recently with a friend. Well of my enough as soon as we walked in the place had a stench of urine. So, not sure what they are mopping with or whatever the case But, I think I done there. Too bad. Guess I will be going to the British Restaurant the Whip..
Small local tavern. Food is okay. Entertainment was excellent!
My sister, mom and I had seen Stoney's featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-In's and Dives. So last Tuesday the three of us decided to give the place a try. My mom had the fish and chips which she said was very good. My sister and I, not being fond of fish, each had the hamburger. At the time we thought the burger had an unusual taste and texture to it, but dismissed it as maybe whatever seasoning they used. By the weekend both my sister and I were developing symptoms of what we thought was a stomach virus. But when we weren't better by Wednesday, made a trip to our doctor, where we learned we most likely had food poisoning! So unless you're interested in having the fish and chips I would recommend not going to this restaurant. We will definitely NOT be going back.
Poor service and unfriendly staff. Pricey food for value. They literally throw food on a plate and bring it out. Tried it for first time and would never go back. Its not worth it.
Good
Great place and the food is excellent, made me miss my home!!!!
Only place on East coast that has great tiad on the hole.
You can't beat this place for good food, great atmosphere and reasonable pricing.
Nice neighborhood bar
They must have changed cooks again.. Thank Goodness...
The real deal, if you are looking for an authentic English pub. Mike Stone (Stoney), the proprietor, is a former music producer of epic renown. Pictures of Stoney with various famous musicians and real gold and platinum rexords adorn the walls (including a great shot with a mid-70's Keith Richards). That life is all behind him now, but adds a fascinating additional dimension to the attraction of Stoney's. However the food and the beer are what makes Stoney's the best. Hand-made Fish and Chips, Shepard's Pie, and other authentic British pub fare is worth every dollar. Add on the freshest Guinness, tap poured, with those signature cascading sheets of pinpoint bubbles to complete the experience. If you've enjoyed the hominess of local pubs abroad and want to relive the experience closer to home (complete with a round of darts with your mates), give Stoneys a try!
I ordered the shepherd's pie.. It was bland. I had to add salt and a sauce to it to give it a good flavor. There's a place in Lancaster Pa that makes it far better.
The food is incredible
great place to watch real football with other fans
Wonderful fish and chips!
Outstanding fish and chips. Great selection of dark beers. Service was prompt and friendly
Stoney's has an authentic British pub atmosphere from the decor to the authentic food, to the beer. It is one of our favorite places!
Very friendly excellent service but i prefer food with a little more spice.
Great food, great service!!!!!
Food is decent. Loud awful band playing though, really hurts the atmosphere
Authentic pub experience, plenty of TV's for watching football (soccer) and cricket! Fabulous Guinness pot pie, great selection of British beer available as well. Staff was warm and welcoming.
Delicious desserts and good music!!
Stoney's is always a friendly atmosphere. If the owner Mike Stone is there, he'll be one of the first to greet you at the door. The food is always good, but expect a wait when it gets crowded.
Very nice..authentic. good food too!
Had a amazing time. Dinner was great, sampler is awesome. Service was impeccable!
We saw Stoney's on diners, drive ins and dives. What a cute small pub. The bartender was friendly and the service good. Since we were first timers I had some questions. What to at???? shepards pie...yorkshire pudding....there speciality....fish and chips.. Started with wings, the whole wing baked.. hot or sweet. Great. Next yorkshire sandwich also really good, and finally fish and chips....delicious. The food took a little while but when it's made when you order not a problem just order another beer and relax. Food is a bit on the pricy side. The restaurant has open mic every other Wed night and all the soccer or cricket you wanna watch on there multiple Tv's. We had a great experience and we will be back.
Great place to watch futbol. Knowledgeable crowd and friendly staff.
Great lil bar with authentic drafts and flavors. Great friendly environment and staff.
Very good British pub food. The fish in their fish and chips is fantastic, definitely the best we've had anywhere.
The food was delicious, came out quickly, and the server was really friendly. Great experience and will be back again.
Enjoyed delicious St. Peter's brews. Bartender was very friendly.
Best fish & chips in the area, have the branston pickle too. Service is excellent and nothing like a queens pint of great beer selections. Friday nite bands also rock.
We are British and drove up from the Annapolis MD area and loved the food. We will be back.
I love this place. Stoney is a great storyteller and a wonderful host. Put your diet away and enjoy.
The best Fish and Chips!!! Bar was great as well. Owner Mike Stone was also very great! Check it out, a great find!
