Truly saddens me to make this review I order food from here at least 2 times a week sometimes more. Today i went in there with my 2 children to eat some lunch. I was never given a menu to order food a couple across from me was served drinks and ordered food while I was ignored for about 10 minutes I then decided to leave this used to be my favorite restaurant and I was used to being greated with much hospitality.

My first riview. The price invertly proportionate to quality and taste has prompted it. THE worst food I ever had. And paid a heavy price for it too. The supposed to be biryani had burnt coriander powder based curry mixed with mushed rice, burnt onions, hard pieces of tandoori chicken/ meat. The meat was burnt too. I would have hoped that the rice at least could have been cooked better. But somehow the cook managed to keep it raw in some places and mushy and broken in other.

Food was ok - chicken was overcooked (rubbery) in the tikka masala and saag. Tika masala sauce was heavy on tomato which seemed like it came from a can. I wouldn't call it great, but wasn't bad.

This is by far my favorite Indian restaurant. In fact, it has become one of my top 3-5 overall restaurants anywhere. Period. I suppose that some people could find something negative to say about any place they dine at, but I would not take those people very seriously if they said anything negative about Utsav. It just isn't accurate. This restaurant has top notch service, an incredibly extensive menu comprised of Indian dishes from Kerala to northern Indian cuisine, plus some dishes that are from "outside" the straight Indian tradition as well. I have sampled many, many things on this multi-page menu, and I've never had food I did not appreciate here. Chicken, lamb, shrimp, vegetarian, even fish and goat dishes are available, and the staff will vary the spice level to taste as well. In fact, it's quite possible to order entrees that are not spicy at all, if that's your thing. (However, try the "Mandrasi Prawns" or "Chettinadu" if you like bold cooking :) The drink menu is outstanding too. What I like most about Utsav is that from the moment you step in the door you feel like the ownership and staff wants you to have a tremendous time, without feeling rushed. It has an elegance that is never "stuffy". I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone who wants to experience great cuisine from this part of the world, prepared in a clean and thoughtful way and served with impeccable taste. As for price, you get what you pay for, but I would not consider Utsav to be anything horribly costly, and for what you get it's an outstanding value.

A great spot for Indian food. We come here with family and whether it is the buffet format or a la carte, the food is always hot and fresh. When you enter, you see a mini waterfall area which sets the relaxing ambiance. If you go on the weekend during peak lunch and dinner times, it can get crowded but the service is really efficient and the food is out relatively quickly.

One of my favorite haunts. I've been coming to this plaza since the location was three restaurants ago. and I think they've finally got the best guys in there. While there is tons of great Indian in the area, the guys here really make the difference for me. I typically come in for the daily lunch buffet. A crazy value at ~$9, this place outfits you with naan and tandoori chicken moments after you sit down. While I love the buffet, the staff here really makes the difference for me. The manager has this incredibly jovial air that just surrounds him. The dude is like a personified hug. He often does the hosting which really makes you feel like a celebrity walking in there. Most of the servers are really funny, supper attentive and make a big deal out of pleasing the regulars. As I said, the buffet is great quality and is kept up quite nicely for the duration of lunch service. Never have I seen something out of stock or greasy or scorched. Every chaffing dish is reasonably sized, so it gets replenished often. I occasionally will come in for the dinners, and in my opinion that is where the real magic happens. I've had Indian all over the state, even the other Utsav location, and this is by far my favorite spot.

We were 5 for buffet. Most dishes were vegetarian with two non veg which had only sauce remaining but meat all gone. Very disappointed. Taste of food was generally satisfactory. The meat dishes were replenished somewhat but it was too late for me anyway. The decor is well done and seating comfortable I am willing to recommend it to others for its authenticity. Update: I have visited the restaurant a few times since and have had very good experience. Going there again today with friends. ( Nov 15, 2018 ).

Went for dinner..Nice atmosphere....some dishes were very well seasoned. Others like Dal were so bland that a blind taste test would not even conclude that it's Indian food. Also quite pricey . Overall some highlights like the mixed kebab appetizer and chicken Madras. Garlic naan was also great. Lunch buffet is probably the best way to try different dishes and stay reasonable cost wise

“Delightful ambience, courteous staff and did I mention great buffet?? ;)” I have already reviewed about UTSAV, Vernon (CT). I have been Utsav Wethersfield for couple of times A-la-carte and buffet both. Buffet rate on weekend is a little bit more and on a weekday is less, but both prices are well within you reach. The ambience is great and more spacious then Vernon one. Waiters are courteous and so is the management. As this is Indian restaurant so of course, you ll get to listen to Hindi songs. Coming to food- in the buffet, they provide ample no of variety in veg and non-veg both. What I like is they serve tandoori as sizzlers. Isn’t it great…!! Egg curry –some sabji in baigan (eggplant).Those were great too and yes try their green chutney too. In desserts, I had rice kheer. That was astonishing... So overall I was totally satisfied with the food and everything

Top notch establishment. The ambiance is the first element that strikes you. It's so well done, it's attractive and so comfortable. Service, wonderful! They are so eager to please and educate. They miss nothing! I was particularly impressed with the server who would not let my boyfriends water glass go empty. He ordered medium spicey and I, not so daring, ordered mild. The food was superb! It's now my favorite place for Indian cuisine. It was a bit pricier than we had anticipated but well worth every penny. We were planning our next visit before we were even done our meal. I want to try the rose ice cream next time but I will have to save room! Thank you Utsav!

I decided to try Utsav for the first time tonight and I was very impressed. I ordered takeout and the portion sizes were very large and the food was delicious. They even gave me a free dessert with my meal. I like how they have a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. Everyone I dealt with who worked there was extremely friendly and polite and the restaurant interior was very classy. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for amazing food in the Wethersfield/Rocky Hill area.

As others have said, the atmosphere is great. It's perfect for large parties or even if you're alone. The food here is even better than the atmosphere. I had the buffet and I am usually prepared for disappointment since the food is usually precooked and reheated or finished during the lunch hour. I was shocked at how good the food was in this buffet. The chicken in the Tikka Masala was a little dry, but the flavor was great. I'm not going to knock it since it is buffet food and all things considered, it's still the best buffet food I've ever eaten. The Lamb Phaal though was better than almost anything I've ever had at an Indian restaurant. Evrything here was full of flavor and aroma, you could tell the difference in the quality of the ingredients here. Even the Naan was fresh and aromatic. Love this place, highly recommend. I should mention too that for all of this, my bill was $11.00. Unreal! I've been reading some of the negative reviews about this place, and I'm completely appalled. I've never felt the need to defend a restaurant's quality before or bash other people's opinions since it's a very subjective thing, but it's grossly obvious that some folks are just being slanderous. Many folks rely on honest reviews, and I stand by mine. To indicate that this place is "poor quality for $" is just just slanderous. It's a buffet for $11.... The atmosphere alone is worth $11. Great place, great food, good prices, and it would appear some "creative" haters down the road...

It's an average place with very weird staff. It's Tuesday evening the place is kinda very empty. Food - Appetizer - Bhaji platter - seemed over cooker or something like recooked from something that was already prepared. Too oily. Ragda patties - average Sabji and garlic naan were really good. Drinks Pahela Nasha - as you expect it to be. Nariyaltini - coconut martini Mule - too much lemon and when asked the staff about it - they responded "receipe says half lemon". From my experience of making drinks no recipe says half lemon. It's mostly few oz of lemon so flop show Staff kept looking at our plates in weird way and kept staring from all directions. That's one of the reasons I LL never visit the place again.

Based on the service, or lack of. We had to wait for a table, which wasn't a problem. Once we were seated with menus, we waited 15 minutes while finally getting water from another server. Our server went to a table behind us. As he passed I tried to get him to take our orders and he said he'd be right back and disappeared. 5 minutes later we walked out. I tried the buffet here on a Sunday. Here are the few things that I observed here in the restaurant. Taste 2/5: There are a very few items in the menu. Food had very less salt in it. They have an American taste Indian food. The desserts here are good. They did not even have chicken biryani as an option in the buffet. Ambience 4/5: The ambience of the place is good compared to its competitors in Hartford. Service and Staff 3/5: The staff is courteous although they add gratuity on a bill if there is a group of 5 or more. PS: I have tried all the buffet places in and around Hartford. And my review is based on an Indian taste of food.

We always had an awesome experience at Utsav Whethersfield or Vernon, all the food we ordered during our visits was yummy including Appetizers and deserts. Service is great and staff is humble. Food was not up to the mark. I don’t understand why each wait person had soooo much attitude. They literally kept the plates banging to the table. We asked them if we could change the place, other than the one they had allocated to us since we wanted to accommodate another person and they were really rude in their response. They had prob in many of our requests like- an extra plate, boxes for to go etc etc Utsav- if you need customers to revisit your restaurant, please make sure your waiters are trained well on how to behave .

I've never had Indian food before. My friend has been trying to convince me to go to Utsav's for the better part of a year. This was a culinary experience I've never had before; Food I've never heard of & flavors I've never experienced. It's not anything that really appealed to me before. My friend absolutely loves this place though so I finally caved to give it a try. It's nice inside. Friendly, attentive staff and everything is nice and clean. I had the Tandoori Shrimp, the Julab jamun, and the garlic naan. Or as I like to call it, garlic nomz! The food was delicious. Everything was fresh and tasty. I'm looking forward to my next visit!
