I’ve been coming to the Cookhouse for over 10 years and it has never disappointed. They make some of the best BBQ in Connecticut and if you drive by it you’ve made a mistake. The barn-like atmosphere is super comfortable and perfect for what is being served up. We had the special Poutine appetizer and it was amazing. Hoping it gets added to the regular menu.
I have never gone there before but i enjoyed the setting of beautification outside , so i am sure inside should look welcoming, hoping to stop by some day. Hope they will continue to give their best service.
This place was awesome. Fast Friendly Service. I ate lunch and the food was good. The guy I was with said his was good too. I’m so happy I choose the Cookhouse
Review in March: Service is good. Food is just ok. Definitely not what it once was. Review in May: until they get a new chef I'm never going back. Still gets two stars because they probably don't have rats.
Awesome food, great staff
Good food at fair prices
The reviews are hyped up more than they should be. Very pricey for OK food.
Pulled pork was dry and made up of scraps. Have been coming here for years and food was always great. Last few times were terrible. I'm done with this place. It's such a shame.
Always a great time. Friendly staff snd great food. Can't ask for more !
Love this place
Fantastic food, wonderful service, nice atmosphere. The pulled pork are to die for.
Love the pork bbq sundae. Holy wow. More please.
Great atmosphere, the cornbread was to die for. Only down side I couldn't put the whole menu on my plate.. lol
Freaking yummy.
Dry chicken.. slow service
Have been going here for years and it is still amazing. By far my favorite restaurant in Connecticut
They had really good food there. For adults there was a bar with alcoholic drinks and a kids menu and kid seats and food for everyone overall a great place.
Good food Good service 1st time to Cookhouse
Very good food over there!!! And beautiful place.
Really great barbque and service was friendly and prompt. Would definitely visit again
Inedible BBQ.. . Overcooked. .with horrible glaze. Much better out there.
Expensive not worth it
Fantastic burgers. Have yet to try the BBQ. Service is fast, professional and surprisingly constant. Have never had a bad experience here. Always a good stop and great meal.
Reasonable priced, good ribs excellent Western atmosphere
This is a mixed review. I liked it and my spouse did not, so I avg it out to three. We tried the all you can eat bbq. Every night of the week they have different specials. The night we went they had the all you eat special of ribs, chicken and pulled pork. The pulled pork had a very smokey taste. I really like the heavy smoke taste, my spouse not so much. It comes down to you preference. The deal is very good good sides and good meat. Plus, a free pint of beer. That is a decent deal if you like the taste.
Awesome wait staff/front of house, but food is a total letdown. Overcooked meats drenched in cheap overly sweet BBQ sauces, stale bread and dry seemingly packaged cheeses used for dressing salads and sandwiches. Their tap list is also horrendous and extremely dated given the plethora of local craft options out there. Absolutely not worth the high cost of the plates.
Awesome menu choices and even better food!
Food was great, waiter was super nice and attentive. Loved it.
Food was great and fresh...just. not sure what GF options they have
Great food and service. Affordable and casual.
This place is great! Food is super delicious and very good prices.
Friendly and very good food
Food was delicious and the service was good. Very big interior made for a neat dining experience.
The cookhouse has wavered a bit over the years...not to their fault. It's hard to maintain that level of consistency over so many dinner services, especially in BBQ. They had infused the menu with different items over the years and the additions have been hit or miss but the Cue is always delivers on wut it delivers here. They combination of woods they use always imparts a nice flavor to their meats.... Maybe an overhaul on a cpl things would really draw the crowds back even harder....burnt ends?? Turkey pastrami?? Idk there's potential for a strong revival here. But hey the food is still pretty decent and for a solid lunch in the area u could fare much worse.
I always gave them a 5 star but on this visit, besides excellent waiter service, the food was horrible. When the bread arrived cold and the beer at just about room temperature , I knew it was going to be a bad experience. Needless to say, everything sucked there after. Everything arrived barely warm. My prime rib was over cooked leftover. The rack of ribs was old and dry, and one of my favorite side, cream of spinach was sour. I will go back again but I hope management take notice. A friendly reminder to be mindful and proud of your tradition.
Brisket cut into cubes like Alpo drenched in VERY sweet (too sweet) sauce. Ordered a red sangria that tasted nothing like any sangria I have ever had, sent it back. Duck sandwich was fair. Cannot recommend and will not return. Maybe this is what folks in this area like, but it is not for me.
Excellent good and service. Flatbread pulled pork sandwich is really good.
A bit pricey, the ribs were ok but the brisket was tough with no flavor. Service was ok.
The food was pretty good but the kids mac and cheese was not good at all. And the service was nice but slow to get us our drinks.
Great food
The food is always good when we go to the restaurant so we tried the catering for our son's wedding. From the first contact via email to the delivery and set up everything was perfect.
This is GREAT BBQ! The Cookhouse is a Connecticut institution. They were doing BBQ before it became "a thing" and the quality has always been top notch. Of course, all of the favorites are there. Pulled pork, brisket, chicken, etc. The portions are substantial and the sides are to die for! There are platters, sandwiches, mix and match options... Lots of choices! They also have an amazing bar, which in and of itself is a good reason to visit. The atmosphere is fantastic! The building is made to look like a big red Barn, both inside and out. Service has always been courteous and swift. If you're in New Milford and hungry drop what you're doing and go to The Cookhouse *now*.
The cookhouse was amazing. Myself a cooker by the smoke some of the best ribs I've had. My only suggestion is smoke the wings and baked potatoes. But we will be back very soon.
Rustic decor. The specialty is barbecued beef and pork with traditional sides like coleslaw, baked beans, etc. Lots of TVs tuned to sports. Friendly and efficient staff.
Got the “Triple Play.” The brisket was pretty good. The French fries were terrible. I’m surprised they are considered a “premium” side. The diet soda was defiantly flat. Got a second soda and it was the same. The service was great. I’d go back.
Food was amazing. The service was great. We ordered and our food came out so fast even tho they were pretty busy. The layout is awesome and it looks so much bigger inside than from the outside. I will definitely come back here cause the prices weren't to bad for how good the food was
Nice ambience ....wasn't particularly impressed with my meal but consensus at table was that was not the norm
Love this place, Best thing to do is order the 3 meats for the table. It's not 5 stars because the meat isn't a home run but it is delicious- but could be slower cooked and less dry. However 4 stars for sure I look forward to going back again and again.
Ordered an appetizer that was too small for the price, overcooked and not very tasty. 2 pieces that were very different in size and looked reheated. Wine was ok. Very disappointed. It was much better the last time I was there. I would have sent my order back, however we had to leave for the theater. Wish I had taken a picture of it!
It was ok.
Atmosphere Food Service all very good
Went there early around 2 pm food tasted like it was cook a day before. Usually the food is very good
Very good lunch menu. Food was very tasty!
Gluten free options were limited, no gluten free bbq sauce
Really Good BBQ and good people.
Went there about 2 weeks ago. This is a run of the mill average place. Eat it and forget it. To be fair I'm probably just ruined by a world class place like HooDoos being in close proximity.
Great food..servuce was good!
Amazing place. Highly recommend.
Love this place. Only been here 3 times, once a year, always the same male server, great service, great food, great environment... I wish i lived near this place. Can't wait to come back again.
After a day at the Elephant's Trunk Flea Market we looked forward to the Cookhouse for their highly rated BQ. We wanted their brisket. I love BQ without the heavy sauce and they advertise a selection without sauce. After our order we were told they were out of brisket and baked potatoes. It was a Sunday at 4pm. We were very disappointed but made other choices. I had their pulled pork and ribs with their horseradish mashed potatoes and the vegetable of the day, corn on the cob. My dinner mate had the same but chicken instead of ribs. The meat was tender, moist and very tasty. I especially enjoyed the pulled pork. The mashed potatoes tasted like regular mashed potatoes and the ear of corn sweet but slightly overcooked. Our check did not substract the additional $2 charge for the missing baked potatoes. We were tired and just paid it so we could leave quickly. I will definetly go back to try the brisket but will call first to see if they are stocked.
They have the best barbecue around. Period, Amen. Their prices have slowly increased over the years though. Which has made me become experienced at making my own ribs and pulled pork, instead of dishing out a lot of money for what's known as the cheapest meat there is.
Good place to meet a friend for lunch!
Had gotten food from here with very high hopes. Meatloaf was a nice thick piece(as expected for $15) however, tasted like hot cat food. It was inedible. Out of the whole order for me and my boyfriend, only one thing was eaten, and that was the veggies. Will not be going here again.
Seemed a little empty for lunchtime. Friendly staff but the ribs and brisket tasted reheated and not fresh. Could have been bad timing for fresh off the pit BBQ.
Food was good as always. Smoked chicken was very tasty and the brisket was outstanding. We always stop there when we're out that way
I had the brisket sandwich....a little sparse on the meat...same with the frys...a little dissappointed.
the food quality and service have gone down hill .. the manager on duty was rude last time we went .. we use to love this place but not anymore. we only live a mile away but we will never be back . what a shame. i even sent a email to them to see if they would make up for are last experience we had there which was not good and they ignorred my email ..
I had the grilled salmon! 10/10
Food was excellent!! Service was mediocre, had to ask for water, napkins and couldn't find her when we needed our check.
Food definitely was not worth price. My girl didn't even eat her dinner. We will never go back again
It a cool ambiance. The food was everything and more. When you go there ask for Sierra, she took care of us and she's great with kids too. Two thumbs up!
Great food .great environment. great staff. Try the fried pickles. We get them every visit.
Really enjoy the new building (only a couple of years since it was rebuilt). It is the perfect combination of rustic and new. Not being meat eater there is not a lot of non meat items on the menu but I had Taco Tuesday special and they were very good. Excellent service
Food -large portions, flavorful, American BBQ, good variety. Service was perfect, pleasant without being overly attentive. Atmosphere is rustic-sports bar.
Great food
Delicious bbq joint. I've had the wings, ribs, brisket, pulled pork, & chicken and haven't been disappointed. Oh, do yourself a favor and get those fried sweet corn things! Like everything else, Legit af!
Great BBQ! Can't wait to go back!
Good food - got their famous pulled pork sandwich - it was good. Good fries - good duck salad - and i don't normally eat duck
Good barbeque, fair prices, excellent service! Nice to have decent barbeque so close to home!
Well it is a good place for dinner. Love the ribs... It is delicious service is good the root bear is extremely nice
Bbq is ok, not top notch. Nice large space that's a good place to grab a few drinks.
Overall Good food, restrooms needed some attention.
This place is my favourite ! Didn't come in for a long long time but I will always remember it as my childhood restaurant ! Coziest place ever !
When you need fattening comfort food
Love their Bar-B-Que pork sandwiches. Good onion rings and slaw, too.
Best place for barbeque in New Milford. Friendly staff good atmosphere. Plenty of sports on the TVs
Unpretentious, quick & gracious service. Delicious brisket, huge portions.
The wrong crowd. Will not go back.
Well earned reputation as the best BBQ spot in Connecticut
Was good! Not amazing, but would for sure go again. Tasty, great portion sizes, I'd recommend it for sure!
Nice-sized restaurant that still has a cozy, down-home atmosphere. Excellent and friendly service. Cold beer. Large menu featuring delicious comfort food served in generous portions. Love it.
Great tasting food, horrendous service. Just were down there recently with 5 others. After getting us seated, we had to wait about 20 minutes until finally someone asked what drinks we would like. After ordering the food, the plates and the silver wear were visually not cleaned well, so we called for the waiter and sent them back and asked for new ones. After getting our order (for 6), they brought us the wrong food, we had to send it back. Meanwhile the meal for 6 we ordered, supposedly come with 3 sides, but the waiter said, they have to charge like $12 for a ceasar salad side dish, which is quite ridiculous. Our order was also supposed to include corn bread and white bread, whcih we didn't get. Again, the menu clearly says that the dish we ordered supposed to include it and (we are being charged for it -see the end of the review). Upon asking the waiter, they said, they don't serve it on Sundays, they only have some left over from a day before. Again, we are still getting charged the full amount for the food we ordered, but half our stuff is missing or not available. After finishing the dinner, we asked for 6 small plates for a cake, because we were celebrating a birthday, the waiter said, there is a $1.00 charge for each plate. We just asked for our bills (somehow $90 ended up $126) but at this point we didn't really care and left and ate the Bday cake at home. We will never come back to this place, neither recommend it to anyone we used to live in New Milford for 25yrs and I have never seen such a terrible service in any restaurant anywhere. If you plan to go there, check your plate, make sure it's clean, and check your bill, but honestly, just avoid this place, there are plenty of other restaurants near-by with far superior service.
Great bbq, nice atmosphere, great service.
The best chicken wings... Mash potatoes... Everything is great comfort food! Highly recommended!
Went for lunch, perfect time to go. Food was delicious portion was huge. I would recommend place to anyone who loves barbecue.
Great down home Southern cooking (everything except the "greens"). They bring biscuits and cornbread to the table, the servers are friendly, and the food was fast and delicious. Cant wait to go again.
The food was great. We went for an early lunch. I would like to revisit for dinner and see how the rest of the menu is. Just need a better beer selection.
Had the chicken fried steak and it was delicious. Will be going back
Fun time nice menu, opted for a chicken and ribs combo, rosemary herbed nice surprise...loved the mashed potatoes...sadly not a huge fan of the slaw.
Good food, good service, good price.
Always love coming here...corn muffins and honey butter are so good. Creamed spinach and turnip greens...yummy! Ribs fall off the bone and I love that they have different levels of spice for the BBQ sauce.
Food was flavorless and presented poorly. Tried the duck and the orange glaze was good but under my fries instead of on the duck. Brisket and pork was dry and had no flavor. Will not be back.
Best Barbecue in New Milford!!! The food is delicious, the service is excellent. The Cookhouse is definitely worth checking out. I stop in every time I'm in town...
Great bbq and service.
Excellent Barbecue. One of my favorites. Always a great meal!
Just had Rosa who made us both amazing Baileys shakes and loved our appetizers. Great service and food; could use more meat in Nachos but always good and reliable food.
First time food was great BBQ will be heading back again soon
Very good good food.... Always had good service...
The brisket just melts in your mouth and is just so damn good. Definitely going again soon!
The best New England clam chowder I've ever had!
Chili bowl was ok, $8 for approx one cup. But being told a 10 minute wait for two people, not sure why because 60% of tables are empty.....ridiculous; so we sat at the bar. Great bartender, very pleasant.
Always a good meal. Staff is great, beer is good, pulled pork is great.
Where do I start from..Chicken= Blazing, Steak=Blazing, Dirty Rice=Blazing, Coleslaw=Blazing, Cornbread=Blazing. Best taste in New Milford. If I’m wrong suggest something else.
Nice atmosphere
Pricey, ribs were pretty meh, beans had was too much cumin. Lucky for me however, that was on my buddy's platter, I got the brisket which was delicious!
Great barbecue and desserts
Tasty local bbq spot. Prime rib is excellent too. Love the draft beer selection. Kind of large and loud but can’t complain.
Great atmosphere and lunch hit the spot!
Food is very affordable and DELICIOUS
Can't truly say for inside, but easily the best takeout BBQ I've ever had. Great for when you need food for the whole week, or a BBQ fix.
The food is great. Don't sit at the bar, the service is terrible. The bartender is too busy making drinks for the restaurant to have adequate time to serve the people that are sitting at the bar
The Cookhouse is always a great place to eat in New Milford. The food is delicious, the staff are all very friendly and helpful. I don't know much about their menu, because I always get the pulled pork sandwich. And if you like spicy BBQ sauce, then ask your waiter for a bottle of scary sauce!
The food was amazing. Not too far from Dolrbills bowling alley.
Very friendly, great atmosphere and delicious food! There's nothing not to love. Definitely will be back!
Hello The cookhouse is the place to be bring your friends your family or if Not. Tell them about your experience. It's a great
Always love the cookhouse! Great food and wonderful staff!
Great food, atmosphere and service!
Very cozy and warm place to have lunch or dinner,
Great bbq no complaints very friendly staff nice dinner out highly recommend
Burger was great and so were the fries. Our server was AMAZING.
Great bbq
Food was good
Great food in a fun, casual atmosphere. And the staff is always great.
Nice atmosphere
Food was very pricey.... chicken looked an tasted like it was a week old.... ribs were robber.... fajita had a pound of salt on it.... the steak had absolutely no taste to it... $160 later...... we will never go back
Food was good service could have been slightly better.
Fantastic food, when they get your order right
Awesome service from the young ladies that greeted/sat us , to our waiter Mike, and all the servers . The food was delicious and atmospehere was rustic, nostagic, but a little chilly. However the chill didnt bother after a few sips of wine
Entering The Cookhouse, and seeing all the framed magazine covers over the years that pronounced them the best barbecue in the state, we had high expectations. They were just opening before noon, so maybe this was a factor as to why the meal did not excel. Maybe we shouldn't have ordered dinner during lunch time. Regardless, the chili, which is highly regarded on their menu, was good, but tepid. If it was served hot it would have been satisfying. I ordered the large prime rib medium rare and more on the rare side. Our waiter came to the table to tell me the cook thought I should know he could only serve me medium prime rib at this time. He was cooking a new one for tonight that would have rare portions, but that would not be available for hours. I had to look for something else on the menu. Since we were already getting the full rack of ribs, I wanted to try something traditional yet different, and ended up choosing the brisket. Went from high to low in terms of beef cuts and had to change my sides now from baked potato and creamed spinach, which would have complimented the prime rib, to their home made potato chips and vegetable of the day (a medley of green and yellow beans and a couple of other things). I was served the chips, which seem to be coated with Lawry's seasoned salt or the like, and the creamed spinach. The brisket was fair, as were the ribs, ordered sauced, and the accompanying beans and fries. Great barbecue is a tough reputation to achieve - that's why there are nationwide contests and shows devoted to this on The Food Network. Most of its found in the midwest, but even here in CT, I'm sure there are challengers that achieve better results.
Ribs are delicious!! Friendly staff!
Very friendly servers. Food was delicious. Family oriented. Very Clean. Everything positive.
Wouldn't come back again. We tried a variety of menu items. Nothing stood out as "good" except the BBQ ribs." A few we're pretty bad. Mother's day stuffed shrimp appears to have been premade and frozen then baked/broiled again so the shrimp texture was spongy and mealy. Skip the duck it's a bit dry and stringy. Call us disappointed.
We had the prime rib. It was okay. I never had any of the other food there.
good service, great food, and comfortable atmosphere. Homemade chips are awesome
Been going here since I was a kid. Absolutely love this place!!
This is by far one of the best barbeque places in the east. I have been in Connecticut five times this year and always stop there for lunch or dinner. Great drinks too.
We ate there this evening Food was good but they ran out of fried pickles Needless to say we didn't get any.
Best BBQ in CT!
Food was okay. I'm not a fan of the tostada salad. Sloppy, messy. Eh. Wings were good. His 2 meat platter was good. Happy hour prices were a nice surprise, from 3-6pm Monday -Friday. Beers on tap were good.
Love it. Great food.
Good place for BBQ definitely get your money's worth
Place isnt clean, watched people after being seated get up and leave. Owner is a crumpy, not friendly, rude person. I bought $80.00 worth of gift cards to the cookhouse but the site ONLY allowed me to purchase in $5.00 increments so the owner would only accept 1 $5.00 coupon. Food isnt a big deal like it used to be, place has gone down hill big time. Will never suggest this place or go here again. Got my money back for those purchased GC.
Good service, fair price, food ok, nothing special. Good atmosphere.
We had not been here for a few years but remembered it as a fun place with good basic food. I don't know what they have done to the place, but everything has just gone downhill. Judging from the crowd, or rather absence of patrons this evening, I would say that many people have drawn the same conclusion.
Great food and service every time we go!!
Great food great service
Loved the food at Cookhouse. The Beef brisket was excellent.
