Me and my wife visited Star of India after a long driving trip based on the fair reviews. We both got to experience the great spices and flavors that complimented their food but our 2 stars were given for the customer service we received. We looked up the directions and it told us that the restaurant was currently open. We arrived at the restaurant and saw the Open sign lit up so when we walked in they were in the middle of a family meeting and said the restaurant would reopen at 5pm. That was our first red flag. We left and shopped for a little, returned and saw the lock on the door with the Open sign still lit up. We knocked on the door and even called the restaurant but no one responded, our second red flag. My wife was upset and decided we go to another restaurant because we felt like they didn’t want our business. I decided to give them one last attempt and when we returned to the restaurant it was finally open. Like I said, we really enjoyed the food, but we just didn’t like the customer service that was provided in regards of proper opening times. The eating environment itself was uncomfortable only because the air provided inside was almost nonexistent. Please don’t take this negative review away from the fact that the food was outstanding. We just expected a restaurant to provide excellent customer service to its paying customers.

I am a pregnant lady who was just craving some curry chicken today, I called this place and I was told in order to get my food delivered I had to order for $30 or more. Keep in mind they are located on Boston Post Rd in orange CT and so is my job (not even 10 mins away). The guy who answered the phone told me to order another dish ( for just me) in order to get my food. I tried to add some more items to at least get my curry, he rudely laughed, interrupted me and told me he would check with his boss and called me back. And he never called me back! So all day I was uncomfortable, because all I was craving was some curry and I didn’t have the luxury to go and pick it up myself. Highly disappointed and will not recommend them to anyone !

Hole in the wall place my boyfriend and I found while driving around so I was skeptical at first... I was so pleasantly surprised with how great everything was. The food and service were both amazing!! VERY cozy atmosphere. I got the shrimp tikka masala and I can honestly say it was the best Indian dish I’ve ever had. Decent size menu with a lot of variety and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. For sure will go again

Alright, this review is based out of experience i had since 2007 till 2012, i have been a regular customer. Mr. Sharma and his fmaily runs this business and i have been a big fan how they run this business. I love the food they serve. That time both the sisters use to serve and Mr.Sharma use to jump in as and when required. He is a great cook and I was totally in love with Lamb Madras. Oh, i still cant forget the taste. Unfortunately i am back in India but cant forget this resturant because they were the main source of my meals since i didn't knew how to cook then. Thank you to the family that unknowingly they did feed me well for almost 5 yrs of my stay in DE. My next Visit to DE would have a definite stop for this resturant.

Still my favorite Indian restaurant in the area. I get excited every time I plan to ready here. Every dish I've had had been good and the service is very friendly. It's a cozy place if you eat in and they also give a discount for getting takeout. The flavors are all great and the rice is always perfect.

I wish there was a negative star system! I have been a permanent customer since like last 2-3 years. Lately started noting that their quality has been going a deep down dive and every time I would come back half-satisfied, sometimes the salt was not proper, sometime the food was tasteless, etc. Today, it reached its lowest level when there was no gobi in gobi kulcha. I told the guy that there was no gobi, showed him that there was no gobi in there but he plainly lied that all gobi was mashed up! Really! I wanted to say that I had the same item a couple of months ago and it had gobi in it. Anyways, avoid it if you don't want to get scammed.

Our favorite restaurant around. We stumbled into here for lunch once years ago and now we will go nowhere else. The lunch Buffett is delightful to sample, but ordering anything off the menu is great. We moved to CT from Queens so we are well versed in ethnic food, eating at Jackson Diner for years. Star of India holds it's own. When the waiter asks about spicy be aware that "-hot" really means it. If you love spicy this is the place to go. They are happy to bring you mild, but medium is delightful. All the standards plus a few unusual creations of their own. We just live this place and take guests and friends all the time .

This is the best indian restaurant around Wilmington/Newark. Family owned. It takes time to order food but its worth it. Its always fresh and close to home like food. If you decide to go there then try "Paneer Bhurji" (main ingredient cottage cheese). Its one of my favorite dish! I get it every time I go there. I have tried other indian restaurants in Wilmington but none matches the quality of food that this place provides! Highly recommended.

Best quality Indian food around. We mostly get takeout since they offer a discount on "to-go" orders. They are also great at adjusting the "heat" however you prefer without losing any flavor to the dishes.

Why does it always seem that whenever a restaurant is ran and owned by a particular race of people that they treat Americans like they are not wanted or needed in their restaurant? We had gone there a total of 6 times because each time we went we got the same treatment but we couldn't believe that we were really being treated this way on a consistent basis we thought maybe somebody's just having a bad day but that wasn't the case. There is a particular dish on their menu that sounds so wonderful one day we ordered it and of course they didn't have all the ingredients for that dish so we couldn't get it. Next table over was an Indian family and they ordered the same dish that we wanted and couldn't get but they got it what's up with that??? So again we went back again we ordered that same dish and again we were told the same exact thing they didn't have all the ingredients for that dish, so sorry. Every time we want that dish we can never get it. Also we are treated like we have leprosy or something. the server's don't really want to really wait on us but they do.

Main pro: the atmosphere. Main con: my Indian friend informed me that the food was only okay, as far as authenticity and quality go. We went for the lunch buffet, which was not a large selection, but what was there tasted good to my inexperienced palate. There were spicy and plain options, which was nice. The waiters were fine, and the complementary naan was fresh and delicious. A good place if you want simple Indian buffet without looking for a massively authentic experience. At least the music playing was some solid Indian classical.

Worst of the worst service. my experience did not even progress to the level of eating. Called them and checked on the timings and then stepped into their sunday buffet 15 minutes before closing. most items were dried up or not there. I then asked them whether they would refill the items which were almost in semi-dry state or were over.I was rudely told that I would have to eat what was there and there would be no refills. Then I asked whether i am still expected to pay full price for a buffett which did not have half the dishes. i was told "yes". i just stepped out and drove over to an other restaurant Please ignore my ratings about food/decor as google forces me to put a review.I never even progressed to even sipping water.

Very tasty North Indian buffet at a reasonable price ($9.95). All of the food is fresh, well-spiced, and tasty. At the buffet, they have salad, an appetizer, soup, basmati rice, biryani, 3 vegetarian entrees, 2-3 meat entrees, and dessert. The selection is good for the price, and the food quality is above average for a buffet. The saag paneer and begun bartha was delicious. The service is good and the staff are nice and friendly. Star of India is a great option for a reasonably priced all you can eat Indian Buffet.

Wonderful place. So nice to find great Indian food again. We just moved back east and were so excited to find this place. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The menu is great, nice to have the old favorites like Palak Panner, Chicken Tandoori, Butter Chicken, Mango Chutney, the list goes on and on. Good for takeout, but also a for eating in. I highly recommend this gem in Orange.

For whoever is managing the place, thanks for keeping the food fresh. I mean really fresh. The freshness of the food shows in the taste of meat especially, chicken. Good job shopping! All the chicken dishes tasted good. Uthappam was a bit undercooked inside and some dishes like grilled chicken and vegetable fritters were too salty for our taste. But waiters were attentive, naan was fresh, good spread. Good value for money.

I eat Indian food all over, and the flavors here we're spot on. One of the better chicken tiki masala recipes I've ever tried, and the garlic naan was equally as tasty. I only regret not getting a second order of naan! Can't wait to try out another dish next time I go.

My wife and have been going here for years. Our favorites are the chicken tikka masala, the butter chicken, and their samosas , but everything on the menu is amazing. I've even gone and ordered something I never had before in my entire life, but was recommend by a friend, and it was absolutely delicious. Their waiters are courteous, and there's never a wait. This might be the best Indian food I've had it all New England.

Best Indian lunch buffet in the area. I've tried them all and I think Star of India is consistently the best. It's also a lot cheaper than Coromandel, the one right down the road. My only complaint would be that I'd like a little more variation in dessert options- it's almost always kheer or fruit delight, and I'd like to get some gulab jamun or ras malai every once in a while

Not very inviting when you first walk in but the excellent food and friendly staff makes up for the not so great ambiance. Fair prices and great food. I've been going there for 7 years or so. The food is smoking, so good that you ignore the reality that the restaurant isn't great-looking inside. But, if you want Indian cuisine done well, they won't disappoint.

Their lamb Rohan josh is to die for! I always come back just for that and the tandoori naan. Friendly staff and take out is available. Only giving four stars due to the scenery inside the restaurant, it could be kept up a little better.

I get takeout from this place frequently. Food is always tasty and is ready within 15-20 minutes of ordering. Staff is friendly and courteous. Price is very reasonable compared to other Indian restaurants in the area. They give a 10% discount to takeout orders.

Great friendly place. Family run business. Wonderful authentic Punjabi foods. Their paneer tikka masala is one of the best I've tasted. Always busy in the evenings and so you may have to wait to get your food if you go for dinner. But it's worth the wait.....

Very Rude Staff. Food is OK but Staff is extremely rude. If you are Indian Different Treatment if you are other then Indian Very good Treatment.Last time I went there it was very dirty plate. The lady on desk even didn't fill shame for that. She just rudely change the plate like she is serving beggar.

The menu which is online is totally different from the one in the restaurant. When asked about this, they told that they don't have any menu online. Mine was a to go order, and it took 45 minutes for it to be ready after I placed an order. The bread was full of oil and the curry was not so good. I've ordered a vegetable Biryani which mostly had beans in it and it just came with no raita or michi ka salan, where these two are considered as the sides for the Biryani. I went to this restaurant because of the ratings it has and I don't think I will visit it again.

The best thing is the authentic food and the they serve the food with so much love and warmth! Paneer Masala is awesome and we eat real spicy so they adjust the hottness as per needs. We visit this restaurant regularly for take outs as well and never faced any issues. By far the best if compared for Indians Grille and Nirvana! Highly Recommended!

One of the worst, worst place I have gone. I asked for fresh idlis. I paid $24 for 3 plates. The best lace had the nerve to pack me frozen idlis. Go figure. This is AFTER the guy (thakka) guaranteed me that they are fresh idlis. Shame. Never go to this place. Don't trust this place.
