I was closer to New Haven area and was missing the Indian food. I ordered from this place via UberEats and I must say the quality and taste of food impressed me. The chana masala was the most amazing dish that I liked.

The best part is that they serve main dish with rice. That's abt it because flavors are lost in translation somewhere. But I visited last week for lunch buffet, the food was quite well laid out and full some. Sweets were truly awesome. Chickpeas curry well flavoured. I felt they need some update on Indian flavors.

I never vote anything 5 star, but they deserve a higher rating. I go most Sundays after church for lunch and I love their buffet. It's not always the same so your favorite may be there one week and gone the next but it's good food at a decent price. Good atmosphere and amazing service, I rarely ask for anything because they make sure to do a good job.

DO NOT GO HERE!!! EVER!!!! One of the worst places to go eat. They should neither be in the hospitality industry nor the food industry. The waiters here are rude and will not refrain from shouting at customers or even asking them to come early. When asked if the food is fresh, he commented given his job he cannot say otherwise and refused to answer the question. We specifically asked them that all of us are vegetarian and we ordered "Paneer". To this they served us "Chicken". When we wanted to complain, the waiter started shouting at us and the manager did not have the courage to stop him.

We have been for dinner and for the lunch buffet and both experiences were great. The food was delicious and our waiters were quick and kind. I ordered the tandoori chicken which was excellent. The lunch buffet was hot with an assortment of foods which were as good as the quality we tasted when we ate there for dinner. We will be going back.

Got chicken and lamb biryani with my girlfriend and we both absolutely loved it. Tell them the amount of spice you want and they will get it perfectly! We went Io india in December and haven't eaten Indian since then. This totally satisfied our craving and we loved the ambiance! Our waiter was awesome as well :) Such good vibes in Sitar with great foods!!!!

Really affordable but quality indian food. The food, I give it 9/10. But I am giving the restaurant a 5/5 because of the service. They’re fast and attentive. They’re always fast to refill your drinks. And will always check up on you, specially during their lunch buffet. Definitely give it a try.

This place is a solid traditional American style Indian sit-down restaurant in New Haven. It has everything you would expect from one of these places with above average service and food quality. The menu doesn't have anything too special, but has all of the classic dishes you would be looking for. All of the food I had seemed fresh and well-seasoned. The samosas and onion bhaji were hot and crispy. The chana masala I had was delicious and very spicy as requested. The poori bread is also hot and fresh. The waiters were attentive and nice. They can accommodate vegan customers on many dishes by leaving out the ghee on things like chana masala, bindhi masala, beigan bartha, aloo gobi, etc. Sitar is a good option for a reasonably priced Indian comfort food meal. It's good for sit-down or delivery and provides some reliably good standard Indian fare.

Terrible service. Restaurant waiters are totally rude. The manager has no control over his staff. 1. Waiter beings by saying rude things ("why can't you come a little bit early?"). 2. Served chicken to a vegetarian person. 3. When we tried to be friendly and ease the tension, the waiter ended up being sarcastic and rude. 4. The manager didn't stop the waiter from shouting at my friend.

They had a good option in appetizer and main course as well. We had salad-soup-chicken appetizers and curry. But seems staffs were not interested in the buffet. This is the first place that my girlfriend and I tried out when we moved to New Haven and have been faithful customers for nearly a year now. The food is absolutely amazing and has set the bar high for indian cuisine.

Today, I had one of the worst experiences here. My friend reserved lunch buffet for 57 adults and eight children to celebrate his daughter's birthday. I am sorry to say that they are extremely poor in terms of counting number of guests and children (especially when you have relatively a large number of guests!) and the most important thing clarity of their billing! We ended up paying more than estimated. Disliked their cold behavior while discussing the billing stuff. Surprisingly, they forced us to pay the money by cash, and discouraged usage of credit card! I don't wish to visit this restaurant ever! I would give negative rating!

Worst place to organize a party and very unprofessional when dealing with the payment! Restaurant payment policy is not at all customer friendly! They charge more than what was estimated and argue arrogantly without realizing there mistakes. they have a positive interest to have us paid by cash. Their food is delicious, service is amazing, and even when I order online, they take every little detail into account. My father is British and, as a result, very discerning of quality Indian food. First time to this place, while in I-95 heading to NJ found this place through Google. It was a buffet, very reasonably priced. We tried veg items, though not a lot of variety, every item was delicious. I mentioned this to the waiter as well. If I am ever in the area I will definitely visit this place.

Just happened to notice the sign on Grove and Orange and found quick parking. Went inside and sat down after a good day in New Haven at the Yale Gallery, Yale Photo Masters thesis show, The Renolds Gallery, and East Rock Park. Eshwin our server was awesome, I being Vegan, was immediately put at ease and offered custom prepared dishes that would be safe for my dietary preference. The atmosphere was pleasant and the food some of the best in many years. I strongly recommend Sitar to anyone who would enjoy fine Indian cuisine.

There are many great Indian restaurants in the New Haven area, but Sitar is one of my favorites. The food is very good and fairly priced. The service here is great. After a few visits the staff will know you which makes going back very comfortable. I highly recommend their veg menu just make sure you are VERY clear that you can handle the spice or else they may make it too bland.

Just average...I'm from Noth India and have had lot better Indian food here. I ordered Paneer Masala, Bhindi Masala and Veg Korma. .. All were very basic and lacked the zing of North Indian spice and aroma. Bhindi Masala was poorly prepared, should have been a dry dish rather than gravy one. Silver Lining: The veg platter was ABSOLUTELY great !
