I have never written a review before but feel compelled to do so after last night's experience. Have eaten here in the past with fine experience, but last night's dinner was terrible. Two of our party ordered the nightly special while another ordered off the regular menu (all three were seafood dishes). All three entrees were incredibly bland, tasted as if it had zero seasoning whatsoever - and I am in no way a picky eater. We told our waiter about our dissatisfaction but was met with little response (he did ask if we wanted something else, but we didn't). When he brought us the check our waiter said "I told the chef and the manager about your comments regarding the food. They have nothing to say." Unreal. Management couldn't even bothered to find out what the problem was. TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT. The bland food may have been a fluke, but I will not be returning based on their attitude.

Excellent French food, service and decor. Small chic bar inside and a quaint waterside dining room. There is also an outdoor covered dining area. Tends to be an older crowd. Expensive.

Have been here few times. Great location. Food is generally alright but overpriced, drinks very overpriced. Some waiters seem very unhappy and try to put on professional air, but no happiness found in this place. Staff will not allow for substitution of sides due to allergy. But location can beat rude staff.

The reviews that indicate poor dining experiences are, no doubt, all based on their experiences. We stopped in for lunch and were seated right next to the water. The dock and outside appear to be in need of some TLC, but those areas may not be the restaurants responsibly. The dining experience we had was nothing short of an amazing lunch with great service and deliciously prepared and beautifully presented... Our lunch included: Salade Niçoise w/ Seared Tuna, French Onion Soup, Trout Almondine... all were exceptional. We left a bit of room for dessert, Puff Pastry filled with Strawberries & whipped cream.

Went for a late lunch and sat out side which was covered with multiple fans. We had a delightful view of the Saugatuck river. The food was delicious and the service was spot-on. Not sure why that other person had such poor service but that wasn't the case here.

nice view over Saugatuck River, friendly staff, average French food. one bad experience day after Thanksgiving. the salad nicoise was inedible - bone dry tuna, overcooked crumbly egg & salad leaves drenched in dressing. i sent it back. unfortunately no more tuna & the alternatives i was offered were salmon or shrimp - which doesnt make it a salad nicoise! i chose neither & asked for a refund instead. wont go back! le penguin is much better in my experience

Save your money. The setting is spectacular, right on the water. Our party of five ordered five different entrees and three appetizers. The beet salads were very god as was the French onion soup. The mussels were gritty and the broth was not only bland but undercooked. The fries were limp. The steak frites was dry and slightly overcooked. The trout was perfect as was the duck. The burger was as dry as a bone. For desserts, the sundaes were excellent. The wine selection was good. Reservations are mandatory.

Dreadful service. Waited about 40 minutes for our food, during which time the waiter did not come to our table at all to apologize or to ask if we needed anything (which we did). Also the waiter did not come to our table after the food arrived until we had finished eating and he came by to ask if we wanted dessert. No checking to see if the food was OK or if we needed drinks, etc. Food was fine but the lack of service made this a deeply disappointing experience.

Avoid Rive Bistro!!!! Based on multiple visits with 2 guests, 4 guests, and party of 10 : the management is rude and arrogant, the service is abysmal (we had to get up and find someone to order drinks, get menus, order food, get water, have dinner plates cleared, get dessert menus, and more), the staff was belligerent to my vegan guest (who called in advance to make sure they had options - but they refused to accommodate her once we were there), the food is mediocre and uneven. The beautiful setting is NOT worth the hassle of being poorly treated!!!!
