So disappointed I had been here years ago and remember the food being amazing went with my family today and was embarrassed to have recommended this place. The food wasnt very good at all I ordered a rainbow roll which came with green shrimp on it which was a first for me I didnt even eat it. The only thing we liked was the spring roll appetizer which you can get anywhere and it pretty impossible to mess up. The service was also slow and it took them forever to even take our food orders after taking our drink orders.

If you are in the mood for friendly service and freshly made sushi , Osaka Asian Restaurant is your best bet in East Lyme. We ordered sushi roll , vegetable Templar and miso soup... it was all delicious. The cliental was in a great mood that day as they were broadcasting the USA girls soccer team on their way to winning the World Cup!! Here are some photos

Not a recommended place. Service was very slow on a week day. I had to call for the waitress for everything, water, drink, check, etc. I even saw another customer leaving the restaurant upset as no one took care of him for a while after being seated at the sushi bar. I had a Sashimi Deluxe set. The fish pieces were large but chewy. The tuna was subpar. Definitely not the fish quality you'd expect in Sashimi.

We were searching for a new sushi source for the store lunch hour after our neighborhood establishment closed. We tried many places but were not satisfied with the consistency of quality and portion size order to order. When we made the trip to Osaka in East Lyme, our sushi dreams came true. This is our sixth order this month and everyone here has only words of high praise for the food and service. Every morsel is well crafted, a delight for the senses, and easily the best value for the sushi dollar. Sushi day is back at our store. Thanks Osaka!

Best hibachi in town! It was fast, fun, and cheap. I havent had a staff that was that enthusiastic about there jobs in awhile. The sushi was very fresh and excellently prepared. I would recommend going here to anyone who is looking for food.

The sushi was solid, portions were generous. I have eaten there a few times, getting different sushi each time. I may be a bit spoiled from other more expensive establishments. Tuesdays is half off on sushi dishes, and the menu is expansive. All in all a food place for good sushi.

wear nasty shoes because the floors are very gross and sticky. in the bathroom its slippery. the place is very dirty in need of a heavy duty cleaning. plus the food didnt taste rite and the woman who took care of us was pretty rude. a very bad experience.... will never ever be back

The food was not fresh and the fish was smelly. It might have been there for days. My friends and I ate all the diarrhea. The hygiene is also very bad, the boss's attitude towards the front desk is very fierce. It would be a very bad memory to suggest that no one eat in this kind of restaurant

The food is awesome! No question about that. Yet, year after year, the service becomes more deplorable. I want to give them 5 stars because the food is worth it. However, people need to expect very slow, very inattentive service every single time. If they could improve that part I will give them all 5 stars they deserve.

This was my first time going to Osaka restaurant. I had read the reviews and decided to try it for my mother's birthday dinner. The look of the restaurant is very modern, it is a small restaurant with half the dining area split between hibachi tables and regular dining tables. We did not try the hibachi because although the performances looked interesting, hibachi food is often subpar and overpriced for food cooked in butter and soy sauce. My sister and I shared the scorpion bowl, which was surprisingly strong. From the 7 of us we ordered: the pad thai, yaki udon w/seafood, 2 bulgogi, 2 Hot Stone BB rice bowls, a dinner box (salmon teriyaki, sashimi, tempura), Mexican roll, and Imperial roll. The yaki udon was subpar. The flavoring was not very good and the portion size was small. I have had better yaki udon from other places. The pad thai my mother ordered was a little dry and unflavorful, she barely ate any of it. The bulgogi flavoring was good, but it wasn't anything amazing. My brother in law and I ordered the Hot Stone BB rice bowl which was authentic, it tasted like any hot stone rice bowl from any korean place. The pricing was much higher than other places that serve the same thing, such as Seoul Korean BBQ in West Hartford, however Osaka does not specialize in Korean food so it is understandable. My father ordered the dinner box, which he absolutely loved aside from the fact that the salmon teriyaki was a little too salty. The amount of food and the variety of food in the dinner box is incredible. If i were to return for any occasion, I will consider ordering the dinner box as well. THE SUSHI IS INCREDIBLE. That is the only reason why I give it 4 stars. I highly recommend the imperial roll, it was delicious and presentation was great. Aside from the food in Osaka, which was a disappointment overall, the staff was incredible. The staff helped bring out the cake I had brought in prior to the dinner and even gave us a complimentary fried ice cream for my mother's birthday. The service here is excellent. I just wish the food was a little better and it would be one of my favorite spots for celebrations close to home. I will definitely be back for the sushi, one of the best sushi places around, and great prices for the sushi as well.

There's nothing wrong with a bit of theatre with your meal. Like many hibachi restaurants, the food is portioned, cooked and served at a communal table. The experience can often revolve around your chef's knife skills and sense of humor. In both knife skills and humor, the chef's I've had here, are top notch. It's not an inexpensive place - meals have run about $50 / person - but when in the mood, it can be a lot of fun.

Great atmosphere and fun. We had Hibachi and it was Dinner with a show. The kid’s loved it catching the soft drink and food the chef flicked into the air. Very entertaining and if you like to try different Sushi dishes head over on Tuesday’s for half price sushi. Can be very busy that day of the week.

If you are looking for good sushi/sashimi/hibachi, look no further. Osaka has the freshest and tastiest sushi I have ever had, plus a tasty assortment of other dishes. Their udon and ramen are not spectacular, but that isn't what I go there for. There is a great selection of simple rolls as well as maybe 30 special rolls. I haven't had them all yet, but so far they are delicious. I am sure to stop by once a week, usually twice.

I loved this restaurant when it first reopened, two - three years ago (?). Loved the staff, loved the food. But sadly it has gone downhill. I stopped going to Osaka on a regular basis, last year. Today I thought I might try it again since my dear friend told me she had a great meal there. Sorry - no way....I ordered Salmon Sushi. Served at room temperature and prepared it rather thick and the taste seemed old. I am a fan of Salmon Sushi but not here. The Crunch Roll was fine (I always order it without the fake crab stick) but again it was too warm and was not enjoyable. Actually I ate only one half of a piece of the Salmon. Oh - the wasabi and ginger were blah - no taste, no zing. Boring!!!! This was a take out order. Had I been in the restaurant I would have sent it back. Oh well, not going back. It's a pretty place and the staff is ok, but the food is blahhhhhhh.

I had a really good time with the family here. The food was awesome and so was the Hibatchi show. I order sushi and I was very pleased, the presentation is awesome. I loved the unagi sushimi! The place is very beautiful with awesome lights that make for an awesome atmosphere. I definitely recommend stopping by, just be prepared for a pretty big ticket which is fair for such an awesome experience.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I called in an order for sushi on Tuesday, which is half-priced sushi day at Osaka. On the phone, I asked if I would still get the half-off sushi deal even if I am placing an order for pick-up rather than dining in. The women on the phone said yes, I would still get the deal. She said they were particularly busy so I would have to wait a while to pick up the order. I patiently waited and when I arrived to pick it up, the receipt listed the correct amount. When the cashier saw this, she removed the receipt and printed a new one, charging me the full price for all of the sushi. I, very nicely, explained to her that I had specifically asked about this on the phone because I had just got out of a very long day at work and hadn’t been able to eat anything all day. I was starving and exhausted! The cashier was extremely rude and made it very clear that she couldn’t care less. When I asked to speak to the manager, she told me that she IS the manager. I asked for her name, which she would not give me until I insisted several times. She finally told me that her name is Susan Lee. It is absolutely ridiculous that I had to suffer because of the restaurants mistake. Had they told me on the phone that the sushi would be full priced when I asked, I would not have ordered from them, nor would I have waited THAT long for my order. I even tried to reason with them by pointing out that the sushi would go to waste now that I wouldn’t be purchasing it and they would lose money anyways. She did not care and I suspect that it’s because she plans on giving it to the next person that comes in and orders the same thing. I don’t know if that’s in violation of any health code but I personally think it’s not right considering the fact that it’s raw fish. This place needs to learn customer service and honoring their word. I have never been in a place where the business didn’t stand by what they told the customer, especially after I drove from a different town to get here. She was truly heartless and I would never go here again, nor would I recommend this place.

This is my spot every Tuesday with my family and friends. the service is great with a family feel. the Sushi is half off on Tuesdays granting you the opportunity to to try as many as you like without braking the bank. The sushi is rolled fresh right in front of you. I recommend the "popcorn lobster". My favorite thing is the Hibachi with the one and only " Jackie Chang" this chef really puts on a show leaving you wanting more not to mention the food is delicious. the steak, chicken and shrimp, oysters, salmon, fried rice vegetables and noodles. if you looking to have a great meal please do not hesitate to visit my fav Tuesday Spot. please try the scorpion bowl but be sure to have a designated driver they don't skimp on the alcohol. its also great for sharing. hope to see you there.

I'm giving it a 3 for a reason. The food has always been good but last Sunday it was like they stopped caring. The Vegas roll wasn't even green (whatever) but it was also soggy and falling apart. It was the saddest sushi I've ever seen. Our food also came out at way different times. It was a bit awkward since a friend ordered the same as me and was pretty much done with it before mine even came out. The lady serving us was also not friendly. It seemed by just being there we inconvenienced her. Maybe it was just because it was Sunday. I don't know, but I was really disappointed when I left.

Restaurant was beautiful and comfortable to eat lunch in. The hibachi show was really different then other hibachi styles i have seen before. The chef was fun and funny with his sound affects of "oooohhh, aaahhh!" Sushi was delicious, the prices were great. $10 for two rolls, at any other restaurant it is $15 for one roll, that's as big as a roll that you get from stop and shop. The two rolls were big, and very good. I would deffinitley go back to Osaka, it was delicious and the service was delightful.

The sushi rolls are special, large, and packed with fish. We go for half price Tuesday. You have to be prepared to wait... Wait to get in. Wait to have to order taken. Wait to get served. Wait for beverage refills. Wait for your check. They are so overwhelmed by the success of the special, they couldn't possibly staff sufficiently to keep up. Still if you're willing to chill, the food is worth it and we saved $80 on the cost of dinner.

I always order pad thai and this specific restaurant basically put noodles and chicken in sweet alfredo sauce. When I told her this isn’t pad thai she said every restaurant makes it different and brought me the bill and asked me to pay for it even though I ate one noodle just to taste it because it looked odd to me. The waitress was rude from the beginning and had no manners. I told her how are you going to ask me to pay for something I did not eat and I returned right away? She said well you touched it so you have to pay. Very disappointed. Avoid at all costs.

Place is very gorgeous!! The sushi in Tuesday's is 50% off all rolls (except maybe 5 rolls in the entire menu) They have lovely staff, tons of options and beautiful plating. I wish I'd taken pictures of my sushi but it was absolutely divine and tasty! The eel practically melts away in your mouth like sweet warm butter. Their salad is HUGE for only $5. It could easily be a meal for a person with a small to standard appetite. The ginger dressing that comes with the salad is also to die for. Our server was very accommodating to my friend who wanted sushi but doesn't eat fish. They have vegetarian options that the server suggested and helped her out with smoothly. My friend paid $15 for 2-3 veggie sushi rolls and a huge salad on a Tuesday. Great deal, you can't beat it at all! I would 100% come here again. Alone or with friends or family or my spouse
