This is my favorite Indian restaurant! The food is amazing, the service is awesome, and it is overall wonderful!
Food is good but price is outrageous for papad they charge $2 but thats complimentry and papad cost less then 2 cent better watch your bill Its rip off in Indian restaurant business lot more in new haven that has good food and better price and alwys check your change because cashier there tries to rip you off for change
Great food, great service!!!
My visit to this restaurant was not pleasant. The decor is ok: yet the service, the presentation of the tables and the taste of the food was sub-par. The table and the glasses were stained. When asked about them I was told they were permanent stains. Another thing that was definitely not pleasant was how the wait staff, one in particular—a Seinfeld look a like- kept staring at me. I counted. For an entirety of six times he had a locked-on stare at me. The fact that I am a masculine female is possibly a factor however I shouldn’t have to feel uncomfortable in any restaurant the way I did at this one.
I wish I lived closer! Everything's good.
The food here is fantastic. I asked for the korma very spicy, they delivered! Very happy with the customer service.
I love this restaurant! I've been many times and always receive prompt, polite service, excellent food and a great time. Highly recommended.
There's just a ton of Indian restaurants in the New Haven area, but this one is one of the better. The lunch buffet always has an interesting item or two, and the take out arrives promptly. The spice level is just right; not too white-bread mild, and not so hot it's painful to eat.
Pretty good. I've had better at a new haven restaurant
This place is utterly outstanding. It completely blows away the competition in terms of Indian food in the New Haven area - the best by miles. I come from the UK here there's outstanding Indian food and this is up there with my favorite places in East London. Great options for vegetarians too. They also deliver for free within the New Haven area, and it comes promptly and hot with an abundance of free rice, poppadoms and chutneys. If you like it spicy you can get it properly spicy but you can also get it milder - they give you the choice on every dish. So highly recommended!
Best Indian Restaurant In New Haven County.
Nice place, good food but a little expensive.
Always great food and very friendly average priced for Indian, I like them more than sitar and it's closer.
I have been to almost every indian restaurant all over CT. I would say this place was relaxing and a good environment. Now as for the food... For the first time ever i could say it was quite boring. Maybe because i'm so used to alot of flavor from the other places. The staff was ok, music was peaceful. I feel there was not many choices for buffet either. Overall i say its ok if you like bland no flavor indian food.
Our favorite spot for Indian. Staff always friendly and fast. Food are authentic. Reasonable price.
Well-prepared, fresh food. Professional service.
Great place for a quick bite to eat (lunch buffet) off of 15. Fairly priced.
Nice spicy food, great friendly hosts
First time here. I drive by all the time and I wanted Indian and I was in Hamden and I said to myself let's go. So when I have Indian food it is by myself. No one I know will go with me. Oh well. So when I got here...The outside is not the nicest. But inside it is nice and cozy. It was really quiet at first until the dinner crowd came. It got pretty busy around 6. The food was good. They ask you how spicy you want it. I am a pretty spicey girl and I got level 3. It was prefect! I got the chicken tika masala which is my favorite dish. Prices were food. Staff is nice. Place is clean. No complaints. I will be back. :)
Always great service and cuisine, try the chicken hot & sour soup.
Authentic Indian food in a great atmosphere.
Best Indian in the neighborhood. Good value, especially for a large group.
Amazing food and decent service
Absolutely delicious!!
I enjoyed relishing their food. I had ordered chicken jalferezie. It came with aromatic basmati rice and the combination was delicious. Their service was excellent. Friendly employees. Good ambience. I would recommend this restaurant.
Nice family place. Clean cosy environment. Large portions and friendly servers.
Always great service and a great meal.
The place is warm, cozy. Best hakka noodles and chicken chiily. They have complimentary desserts and drinks.
Wonderful and kind staff, great food for both dine in and take out!
Pleasantly surprised. Great buffet. Left very happy
Good food.
Very friendly great food good prices
To be sure, this was once a great Indian Restaurant. It has recently fallen out of favor with my vegetarian family members, who think Cumin India must have had a change of chef in the last year or so. I have noticed a few differences myself; however, I'm personally still very pleased with the food. I don't think you will leave disappointed.
the India restaurant in Branford is the best but this comes very close it was very good and food was tasty and the service was awesome this is my Second choice when it come to India food
I've never had a bad meal at Cumin India. Very flavorful, right amount of spice, and fast friendly service. Always more than enough food at an excellent price. Great for dine in and takeout.
Nice Ambience, Helpful Staff... Ordered Paneer Pakoda and Mushroom Matar Masala which they customized, tasteful. Buffet is affordable, can be improved along with Background music!
I grew up in the UK where there a Indian restaurants on every street corner. I have also visited the Indian subcontinent. Cumin Indian Rest ranks with the best. I have eaten at this restaurant several times, both evening and afternoons both weekdays and week ends. My experience has been universally good. The service and food are very good food, the portions are generous and the prices are helpful at times such as these.
I went there once and I accidentally went to the kitchen instead of the bathroom and saw 2 cockroach’s on the cutting board . And the food was disgusting the butter chicken is extremely oily. The only reason why it has good reviews is because Americans like it but don’t know how Indian food really taste. True Indians know how it really taste.
Best place to have Indian food. Must go once and then u will go often. Try the dinner special for 4. Awesome.
Really bad food all around but the Indian Chinese was particularly bad. Stay away
An exhilarating experience. True taste of Indianness in all the dishes. Ambiance adds to the quality time spent at the restaurant. Service and courtesy of the staff is praiseworthy. A must place to have authentic Indian food. soft on your pocket also. Highly recommended in case you are in this part of the USA Keep it UP CUMIN
We had the buffet. It was supposed sublime. 10/10 would repeat!
Always cheap and staff is very polite
Excellent staff and mangement. This is a very welcoming hospitable restuarant. Having lived in the U.S for 30 years this is honestly the best indian food i've had. The catering staff is amazing. I catered from this restuarant for my daughters wedding and every one of the guests enjoyed the food. The owner Ram, is a down to earth gentlemen and will do whatever neccesary to satisfy his customers. I highly recommend this place for dine in and for large catering functions.
Always friendly and great food
Great family friendly atmosphere and staff. Has Bar and Lunch Buffet. Much to my surprise they have four course dinner for 4 option as part of the menu, which I highly recommend it. Haven't tried their Indo-Chinese items which they were raving about, hence I have to come back!
Rating is only for vegetarians like me. I went to this restaurant few days ago along with my wife. buffet is good but they keep all the veg and meat food together. so we could smell meat on veg food as well. we couldn't eat any of the food and we didn't eat at all! I don't recommend veggies going to this hotel until they change the way they keep the food at this restaurant
Good local Indian restaurant
Well prepared Indian food here. Geat taste!
Good Sunday Buffet
We came for the first time today and we love d the food and the service. Good place.
Tasty Indian food at very reasonable prices.
Just loves this place. And the service the best.....
In my group, we had the garlic naan, panir naan, chicken biryani, navrattan korma, and mirchi ka salan, and everyone loved what they got. I had the navrattan korma, which was so good. I appreciated how they served the cream separately. The best part was that it tasted perfect, no one reached for salt or pepper.
Great food.
Great food and good service, totally recommend..
Excellent food and service at this establishment. I travel around the country for work and I always try to find the local Indian food spot; boy did I find it! The server was very attentive and my meal was delicious, some of the best I’ve had in this area. If you are in town for business, or just a local trying something new, give these guys a try!
Excellent Indian food. Love the naan there. Definitely would come back for more food.
One of my favorite and my best place to eat in or to go. Superb friendly staff, excellent quality of food . They really take care of little ones as I was with my family and my nephew is so happy to be there. The biryani is too good , tandoori chicken excellent Not only that the buffet has great variety of dishes and the price is good too. I wish I could add 1 more extra star ⭐️ to this restaurant
Excellent Indian food. And because I’ve grown up eating Indian food, I find myself constantly comparing Indian food in America to food back in India and finding fault because it’s just not the same thing. But this place...this place comes very close to that authentic Indian taste.
The parking lot was clean with ample parking. The restaurant was clean. The staff were friendly upon arrival. The service was spot on. The food was delicious, from the appetizer to the dessert. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Very rude and mannerless employees.
Great Indian food!
Nice change from the normal fare in the area. The food is good, but to be honest I really don't ever know what I'm eating. I do know I like it. Give it a shot! Expand your horizons.
Nice Indian food, strange service process though. Maybe it's because we were arriving about a half hour before the buffet was ending, but the large number of wait staff bustled around without being of much help to the diners in our party who preferred to order from the menu. They attempted to rush us, even though we didn't intend to take another trip to the buffet.
Driving on CT 15 found this place on google. I am glad I stop by. Good thing they open all day. It's worth driving few extra miles.
NEVER AGAIN!!! Food is great. BUT We would order every couple weeks with no problem until one time the delivery driver was over an hour past the 40min wait time i was told to expect. Thats 1 hour 40+ mins waiting with no call saying they would be late. The delivery driver was then VERY RUDE when i gave him his $2 tip. I told him my food was over and OVER AN HOUR late. The hot food was cold, and the cold food was hot. He gave me a very dirty look and walked away while i was talking to him. TODAY i tried to give them another chance and they told me they would not deliver here because it was too far away. Even though they have delivered here 20+ times in the last year. So my go to indian restraunt cut me off because of a bad tip for bad service. Never again.
Our go-to Indian joint. Really good food and decent service.
Great food
Had the panner pakoras, tandoori chicken and goat biryani. Delicious!
We went here on a weekday for Buffet and got what was expected. The food was not the best, but definitely readily available. I have had buffet and regular items from here and they are normally better than what I had today.
Haven't even been here
Got it delivered within an hour. Chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo were delicious and spicy like I requested. White rice is included with them. The lamb wasn’t rock hard and was pretty tender and flavorful unlike other restaurants such as saffron grill. The buttered naan was just perfect and they even gave us a side of onions and lemons along with papad. I will certainly order again when I’m back in Connecticut!
Wonderful food, moderate prices, and exceptional service. I've come here for nearly 8 years and every time I'm in town its consistently good food.
Good Indian restaurant in remodeled Pancake House. Will serve spicy to taste from mild to burning. Indian tea is special. Staff is solid.
It is great, good food, great service... guys are very nice and alert - that's good because food can be spicy and you really need a lot of water :P
Our go-to Indian restaurant for many years...never disappoints. Friendly staff, fast service, fantastic food.
Great staff and food. Love the chicken tika
need some fish in the buffet other than that it is good
The staff is always very accommodating and friendly
Went here once to try the place out. I don't usually eat exquisite foods from different cultures but I guess if you wanna try Indian food you should come here. I although there wasn't much of a wide variety the cuisine is definitely rich and some sweet and spicy. I I personally thought it was disgusting but try it out yourself and you just might like it. The other day I was wondering what the future might look like. Then I puked all over their floor and left.
No lamb dishes at the buffet... Chicken was good though
Great food! Did a take out. They give you a box and I filled it. The buffet has a good variety. With nan on the side, and I paid extra for another order of nan. The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars, the chicken was very dry. Although I've eaten here before, it's always dry. But they are close to my house, and I didn't feel like driving far. But they are good.!!!
I LOVE THIS PLACE. The staff is always so pleasant and attentive. Not to mention the food is nothing short of amazing, my favorite dish from the there is the butter chicken and it’s to die for. I try to go weekly if not every other week, and each time it never disappoints.
This has been our favorite Indian Restaurant since moving to the area two years ago. We now live 15 min more out of the way than we used to, but we still make the trip to Cumjn whenever we can. And on days that we can’t, they are always more than happy to deliver to us. The entire restaurant staff is beyond friendly and warm to anyone that walks in and to this day has our entire order memorized whenever we come in. They always make sure their guests have all they need and I’ve never been at a restaurant that cares more about the satisfaction of their customers. If you’re looking for authentic and phenomenal Indian Cuisine in the New Haven area, this is definitely the place you’d wanna go to!
This is one of my impromptu eateries. I was quite hungry when I drove by the area. So I searched, visited but found the national fast food joints wanting. For $10, I thought I could do better. For the money, indeed I did. This buffet attempted to offer similar selections to one I frequentrd recently. That's where the similarity ends. The food looked slightly old, like the leftover you try to reheat and finish from the day before at home. Wasting food isn't acceptable for I was drilled repeatedly that many in other parts of the world are hungry since the day I could eat on my own. Granted I was there at 2pm, but you know you only have one chance to make a good impression in life. The only shining light was the freshly-made naan. I sampled two plates, just to cover all the offerings. By the time I left, all I remembered was that I had a meal, nothing particular about what I ate. I thought about giving it 2 stars but then it might be too cruel. The place definitely needs a refresh. I hope they do, soon, and be successful.
Good
Excellent traditional Indian food, I would definitely come back again
Good service, ambience and food. Reasonable prices.
Love this place! Fantastic chicken Tikka massala, and great Naan!
Great food. Love the atmosphere!!!
Always so good
Food was excellent, amazing service.
Love this place foods always great!
It's so good I don't even know how to describe it just try it out just trust me
Good solid Indian food. Not the best I've ever had but probably the best in the area. They have a buffet and they deliver. The garlic naan is my favorite so make sure to get some with your meal.
The best most attentive people and the Indian hot heat level is nice and hot. If you are craving Indian in an old IHOP, this is the best. I've had Mexican in an old Pizza Hut but this is so much better. But seriously, since Thali has left town, you need to give Cumin a shot.
Delicious food. Nice variety. A must for me to go agsin.
This is most amazing restaurant in east coast. Best Indian food. Must go.
It was nice place to have Indian food around New heaven area. I really wish the customer service would have been more better. All the stuff looked very tired. Food was okay. It can be better.
Fantastic Indian cuisine in Hamden/New Haven area. I’ve been to other Indian places in New Haven and surrounding towns but none of them are as good as Cumin. Lunch buffet has a small selection of their entrees but always hot and changed out frequently because this place is popping at lunch. Best naan I’ve ever had...just don’t fill up on it. Save room for the main courses.
Great food and service
Never had a bad meal - everything on the menu is delicious!
It's really really very testy & real Indian Punjabi test I love it
Cozy ambience, no spicy Indian buffet restaurant. Decent options in non veg appetizer, not much variety in veg appetizer , just two desert options.
Love this place
Awesome food and extraordinary taste ... amazing Indian restaurant.. simple amazing taste.. spicy food .... simply superb food and delicious
Good Indian food. Generally good service and friendly staff. Chicken Tikka Masala is great, good Naan.
Too much salt but, the chicken tikka masala and the Keenan naan was delicious.
Yummy and affordable Indian food
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Specifically the buffet. ALWAYS fresh and good quality. I always come after my Friday prayer and the price for the buffet is more than fair. Still 5 stars but I do wish the buffet can stay open until at least 4pm. Sometimes I am cutting it short by hardly making it before the 3pm deadline.
Worst service. Among 7 dishes only 2 were good. Rest could not eat. Will not go there again.
Great indian food
Quick and yummy lunch buffet for $10!
Food at the buffet is good and has a nice selection. I wish the food was a tad spicier from the buffet.
Buffet good value, but it would be nice to vary the menu a bit.
Yummy food love their buffet
New to Indian food, but they seem to have a good range of foods on the menu.
I've ordered takeout several times and the food is so fresh and delicious. The dining room is nicely decorated and clean and I look forward to dining there soon
Nice service and good food. We almost go every once in a month and every time we like it!
Good food nice selection.
Great Indian food
Excellent food with great vegetarian and vegan options. Friendly staff. Easy parking.
Excellent food; lunch buffet was a great value. Kids were quite welcome (even some active youngsters).
Love this restaurant. Food is great and service is friendly. Building is a bit quirky (think it may be located in a former pancake house), though I find that makes it even more fun.
I LOVE this place! The staff is so attentive and the food is amazing. I got the chicken korma and it was the best I’ve had in the area! They also included a free rice pudding at the end of the meal! Definitely recommend this spot if you’re looking for good Indian cuisine.
Excellent Indian restaurant. Food is flavorful and the service it's even better. Always leave Cumin India with a smile!
excellent chana saag and chicken naan
Excellent buffet with terrific variety of delicious Indian food
Buffet is awesome...
Great food! Convenient location
Good food for indian people
Great place
Have tried chicken, lamb, and goat biriyani. All are superb! Best near New Haven.
Generally pathetic excuse for Indian food. I did the lunch buffet and for $16 went away feeling like a loser. One fried chicken nugget entree seemed like it was reinvented/reconstituted chicken from Chicken Tikka Masala. Nothing but chicken... No lamb. Spinach was soupy and poor tasting. Eggplant/potato dish was OK. Little to choose from and sparse seasonings and condiments. Meager salad ingredients/fresh, raw vegetables. Food was bland and basic.
Great food and service. Restaurant could use more lights.
Best Indian food I have had in a while. 4 out of 5 is pretty spicy! Usually a good sign of authentic Indian food.
Hey people u need to try butter chicken with naan. O MY GOD
we have done take out from here several times. The food is excellent and fresh. Service is quick and friendly.
Good food. Buffet dining.
This is my absolute favorite Indian restaurant.
The best India buffet I've found in the area.
Absolutely love the family owned restaurant cooked cuisine and they never disappoint but rather never cease to surprise and bedazzle my family, friends and I! They are truly a new Haven restaurant staple! Not only a must dine at family owned restaurant establishment but truly a must frequent family owned restaurant establishment! Go visit today starting at 11:30 a.m you will never be disappointed!
Never was a fan of Indian food but this was great
It was ok
I've never had a bad meal here and definitely the best Indian food I've had in CT. The food is delicious and the staff is friendly and accommodating.
I have eaten here about ten times. Excellent Indian food, very good service by authentic Indian owners with generous portions at a very reasonable price and a full bar. I recommend this place highly.
One of my favorite places to eat in hamden. I've eaten at Cumin India a handful of times and have never been disappointed. The lunch buffet is great for people like me who aren't terribly familiar with Indian food, and want to try something new. Prices are good and the service is great. The waiters keep naan on the table and water in your glass. I have liked just about everything I've tried here. Awesome place to eat and unique for the area
Great service, excellent food! Love it!
Great place great food wonderful people
We have gone a few times for weekend lunch. We have seen people order off the menu but have never been offered a menu. I guess they assume you will be doing the buffet unless you ask for a menu. The buffet is pretty limited, and as others have mentioned, even moreso for vegetarians. The food is okay. Neither the best not the worst Indian food I've eaten. The last time we were there we noticed the naan brought to every table was extremely bland. In fact, for Indian food, I find the dishes relatively bland overall. I would rate the service as "okay" also. In the times we have been there, the servers have never been especially friendly, attentive, or helpful, but they haven't been unpleasant and they have always thanked us on our way out. I feel like this is not the place to take someone on a well-planned date or to fill a craving for amazing Indian food or anything like that. But if you happen to be in the area, are hungry, and Indian food sounds better than the other area options, it can fit the bill. Buffet lunch for two with no drinks will run around $26.
Delicious food and amazing service every time!!!
It's a good place to eat, not get on my standard view with Indian food.
Good Food.
If there were more stars to give than five, I’d give them all. Super friendly and attentive wait staff. The second the water ran out these guys sprang into action as if their lives depended on it. The food was the best I’ve ever had and I’ve been to 6 different restaurants in ct. They even threw in complimentary rice pudding!
So this place is now called Asian Flavor because they have moved off a traditional Indian palette in favor of Nepalese food (which is basically a mostly-Indian Indian-Chinese fusion. That's actually where the guy is from) So the place tends to be pretty empty, probably because the people shopping at Price-Rite don't tend to be privy to sophisticated food. An empty lobby can be decieving. But yeah. The food is beautiful, and delicious. Especially the samosas and the garlic naan. I've also had this interesting fried cauliflower that was so good it beat out some of the meat dishes. Also, it was beautiful. All of the food is filling, through spices or otherwise. It really feels good on your body, I think. I am posting this review because this is a really good place that deserves to blow up. It has a super good atmosphere, really good and beautiful food. It deserves to prosper. Support good food in your local community
One of my favorite indian restaurants. We had tandoori chicken, sang paneer, lots of fresh hot naan. Food was a perfect level of hotness, but I know they can make it spicier. We have had the lunch buffet before, food is always good and fresh.
Food was awesome. But server (wore black specs) was arrogant. They even charged $3 for a small bowl of raitha. That was robbery... Most restaurants give extra raitha when we order Biriyani. Not this guy. When you charge $13.95 for Chicken Biriyaani and $16.95 for Lamb Biriyani, I can't digest why thay can't give a small bowl extra raitha for free.
