REVIEWS OF Black-Eyed Sally's Southern Kitchen & Bar IN Connecticut

Ben Hostetter

Best barbecue sauce in the world, it's a shame they don't sell it separately. It's worth the trip just to have some of their wings or fried chicken.

Alexus Maynor

OMGGG I LOVEEEE THEIR BRISKET MAC AND CHEESE ❗

Kathryn Helmrich

Great barbeque.... Good music venue!

Gordan England

The place is loaded with all kinds of music icon photos, posters etc.. fun.The food was great per my wife Angie when she eat BBQ sauce that not hers she will most likely give thumbs down, BUT for her to tell me she loved their BBQ sauce well hell Black EYE SALLY you did something right (LOL).

diamyr serrano

Dre was awesome! Thanks for the amazing customer service! He truly cares about his customers and it shows! The food was amazing as usual too. And drinks! Best in town! Thanks!

Kathryn Britos-Swain

Had to bring my daughter from New Orleans, she was hankering for some southern food. Great atmosphere, live music, tin walls, wooden floors, delicious food. Felt like New Orleans!

Adrian Sanchez

Good but the brisket could of been better

Wayne Blecha

I love that this place exists in Hartford. Live music most nights, funky, eclectic...I would love to say the food is great but it is decidedly mediocre. Still, you can see a big band on a weeknight, many good musicians play any given week. BES, don't ever leave us.

Ken Scheinblum

Had a business lunch. Great service. Reasonable prices. Try the brisket sandwich - a winner.

Kindra Fontes-May

I wish I could get here more often. I love it every time I go. Great place to bring a group. The cornbread is excellent, as is the catfish and green beans (not overcooked and still very garlicky).

Gregory Weiss

Awesome Pulled Pork, Mashed Potatoes, Mac and Cheese, and Brocolli

Dianne Crowe

Good music and great food

Jeremy Prada

We were in Hartford for an event and needed a quick meal to take back to our hotel. Ordered the gumbo fries and the pigout sandwich. The andouille sausage is a stand out with a good flavor and nice heat. The combination of the sausage with the pulled pork isn't an option I've seen before but now I'm not sure why it isn't more common. Takeout order was quick and packaged well.

Jerry L

Slow service. Food is okay. definitely not worth the wait. We waited for almost 1 hr for our salad... it was a party of 4... The server was not attentive either... I would not recommend for lunch during the week. I had a fried chicken in my prior visit and it was dry & overcooked.

Pat Chibok

Friendly and reasonably priced We went twice over our weekend holiday Good blues band as well on one occation....that was a plus.

Rebecca Pannaman

Delicious! Love this place. Had been a while since we'd been, but per usual the food was delicious and the corn bread is the absolute best!

dee daniels

This iconic Southern food restaurant has good food! We had fried green tomatoes, brisket sliders, mac n cheese with brisket and a chicken sandwich. Service was slow at first but improved so we were able to finish our meal within our lunch hour.

John Lazor

Went in on a Saturday afternoon. Not very busy. Service was slow. We had to flag the hostess down when she was walking by to ask her to send our server over. She had passed us by any number of times with no acknowledgement. Took a long time for our food to arrive and when it did it was ok but just warm. I could understand if the restaurant was busy but it wasn't. We were visiting family at the hospital and decided to grab a bite to eat outside. We will try a different place next time.

Laura Ferrara Miller

Great food, great service. Live music 6 nights a week and a cool atmosphere. Highly recommended

Joshua Flewelling

Have been going here for 20 years. Consistently good quality. Excellent atmosphere. Good music. Good food. Good drinks. You'll enjoy it!

Sarah Bessuille

Went here because it boasts being kid friendly. But there were no changing tables in either of the bathrooms. Took almost 15min to get two waters, a beer and a martini (5pm, only three other tables). Got our cornbread maybe five minutes before our meals came so no time to enjoy. Got blackened catfish that was completely undercooked, huge red/pink spot. Waitress seemed genuinely apologetic but also seemed either overworked or distracted. Got a whole new dinner without asking but took another 15min...by which time my husband and toddler had almost finished their meals. The redone plate was pretty good but my appetite had kind of gone at that point. Took forever to get the check...no comped meal or offer for a dessert or drink or anything. I also had mentioned it was my sons birthday when I made the reservation but everyone seemed confused when I had mentioned maybe a dessert to serve. My husband got a grilled chicken Caesar which was average with slightly runny dressing. We asked for well done broccoli for our toddler but it was definitely al dente. Average food, below average service. I believe it’s more of a music scene, which is cool but I wish they hadn’t boasted being kid friendly.

Harold Lloyd

Great Louisiana southern cuisine. Service is excellent and the music was fantastic.

Mark Bianchi

Food was great and the staff was very nice. Good beer selection too.

david shwanick

Great food. Looking for something southern, a little bbq, this is the spot. Ribs, chicken or corn bread. Hands down best meal I had in Hartford. Good service. Nice selection of cocktails. Live band.

rich rich

Good ribs or brisket but that's about it. Expensive.

Jonathan Brown

Every visit to this fantastic joint never disappoints. The atmosphere is vibrant and the food is even better. My go to dish at BES is the chicken and waffles. Five pieces of perfectly fried drums, thighs and wing complement a crisp and delicious 1/2 waffle with a generous side of Mac and cheese. The menu has fantastic southern and down home options that are phenomenal like the shrimp and grits that are a great dish as well. Great selection of draft beers and pretty good spin on the New Orleans Hurricane cocktail. Go on a night with some live music and you'll have a full soul to go along with that belly. This place is a Hartford gem, check it out!

Jackie Filson

Best southern cuisine in the Hartford area hands down. My friend from Georgia tried it and said it was BETTER than a lot of the food in his hometown. It’s also suchhhhh a fun place and has AMAZING jazz where many of the greats that have come out of Hartford (there are a bunch) got their start! Def go.

Gail Bailey

Very nice menu. Close to Bushnell Park and the Capitol Building in Hartford. Live music. Nice Bartenders and clean bathrooms. Owned by a lovely couple and the atmosphere is full of all kind of memos from all over the country and all different time periods.

William Villanueva

Very very good but next time put more collared greens

Linda Bartlett

Loved the food and atmosphere. Portions were large and prices reasonable. Service was great as well.

Angela Robinson

Being an Hispanic person I like my food well seasoned and their food has no seasoning. The Mac & cheese wasn’t cheesy, the collard greens still had stems In it with a sweet taste to, and the fried chicken just doesn’t taste like good southern fried chicken. Then my friend ordered a burger which was still a little rare in the middle. So I have no clue how they got 5 1/2 stars. Because in my opinion there is nothing southern about there food

Laurie Arshonsky

The staff were warm, friendly and efficient! We ordered gumbo and sliders to share. The portions were great and very reasonably priced. We also shared a beer. Music starts at 8 but we missed it. We were very pleased with our experience and recommend this place!

Laura Sweet

We started with the burnt ends. My kids scoffed them down & even loved the pickled onions. The cornbread & butter was a huge hit too. Absolutely delicious. The food was great per my wife Angie when she eat BBQ sauce that not hers she will most likely give thumbs down, BUT for her to tell me she loved their BBQ sauce well hell Black EYE SALLY you did something right (LOL).

L. Rivera

The food was absolutely delicious! Well made cocktails. And service was overall great.

Jamar Davis

The catfish and the ribs are outstanding. Also love the cheese grits

Jeremy Ovo

In a cozy spot adjacent from Bushnell Park, this restaurant has always been one of my go-to's after taking a stroll. The dining experience is beyond incredible, its southern ambiance is complemented by a great assortment of menu options I promise you won't be disappointed, believe me when I tell you-you'll be sure to keep coming back for more.

Merri-Lee Stine

Always great food and music. I made a meal of Burnt Endz and a side of Mac and Cheese and it was a perfect size for me

Iris Martinez

Amazing food and drinks. Thank you!

Doris Jones

Love this place goodful love their catfish and their fried pickles are the best

S. M. Pudlin

Still the best barbecue this side of the Mason-Dixon, but it does suck that a lot of the Cajun stuff has been taken off the menu. As a fat person, the portion sizes really suit me, but you might get two full meals out of it. Great beer selection, incredibly friendly staff.

Jeremy Raley

Good food, good service. Nice outpost of southern cooking in Yankee territory.

LaQuail Dawson

The food and atmosphere. I will be going back.

Sara sits there

Really delicious food that you could tell was made from scratch. Huge portions for a fair price. The ribs are tender and juicy. I think the red beans and rice was my favorite, so good!

Michael Merritt

Great atmosphere. Got the Mac and cheese brisket. Was pretty good except could always use more brisket.

Reeves Westmoreland

Great staff, marginal sandwich

QUANIESHIA WILSON

Good Southern style food & Monday night jazz is our favorite

I came here for Mothers Day. I was disappointed that most of everything o ordered was sold out (fried green tomatoes, catfish, wings). I wasnt upset with the server, it was a busy weekend I'm sure and those are popular items. I was however, upset that she had the worst attitude. Rolling her eyes every time we inquired about something. Very short with us. Not checking to see how things were. At one point she approached our table, said one word then turned around abruptly and went into the kitchen, it was bizzare. I didnt even want to ask for a refill for ginger ale because I didnt want to deal with anymore attitude. I'm sure she had a long stressful day. I once worked in resturant. I get it, but when you have customers who are treating you right, you treat them right. I will say that aside from the mac and cheese (which is usually a highlight for me) the food was great. The service we recieved from the hostess and a lady who came from the kitchen (perhaps a manager) was fantastic. It will probably be awhile before I visit again. :/

anthony lemoine

Great food and atmosphere. Excellent prices. Service was a little slow. But great overall experience

Kathy Simeone

Southern comfort food was delicious and loved Neal and the Vipers blues band!

Aulani Ree

Whenever my family didn't want to cook for Thanksgiving...we've thoroughly enjoyed the catered meal in the past. While waiting for my spouse to come in from Boston, we settled here for dinner with friends. I was so disappointed by the food. I ordered the gumbo, it had no flavor. It seemed as though the flavors didnt have time to marry. ( I packed the remainder..and tried it again the next day...it tasted completely different the next day...it actually tasted like something) I also ordered a side of mac and cheese, a 3 year old would have been satisfied with the Kraft box like flavor. Our waitress was Shay or Shy, she was great! She seemed shy, I know it can be hard to feel comfortable with new faces daily. You are amazing, be sure of who you are as a person...you are beautiful...and watch the tips come in beyond what you've been accustomed to. Ps. Hire a cook with some soul in their heart...I believe you can taste if the food was made with love and it wasn't there that evening. I agree with the other review that stated that it wasn't as flavorful as people are stating...

Ashley Toole

Love love love this place. The shrimp and grits were SO GOOD!!! I wish I remembered my drink

Peter Mason

I traveled two hours to see the Nick Moss Band here recently. Great Blues band if you get a chance to see them. Reservations I strongly suggest here. The food & service were both outstanding & this place was jam packed with restaurant patrons. The brisket was excellent & my friend raved about the catfish. Check this place out. You won’t regret it. We had a great time eating at Sally's with friends. The atmosphere is fun, the wait staff did an outstanding job, and the food was very delicious. There is live music on weekdays in the evening, which probably makes the place crowded and loud (but fun). We can't wait to go back.

Team Johnson

Monday jazz nights! Corn bread is everything, their red wine options arent great.

Kenny Taylor

The shrimp and grits are unbelievably good. I thought I would have left overs but I couldn't get enough and cleaned my plate. A good selection of local beers are available on draft. Service is good and friendly. Both nights I visited there was a band playing. I can't wait to come back to Hartford so I can return to Black Eyed Sally's.

Christina Moulthrop

Best food and most amazing service ever! We will definitely be going back!

Cameron Letman

I frequent here often. I usually eat at the bar. Food is always good. Service is usually good. There is a snag in customer service at times when it is busy or there is a shift change...but overall, Ive never had a bad experience here. My favorite: either the catfish w/grits or the chicken & waffles.

Malcolm Thomas

Loved the food and the vibe let me and my girlfriend come in when the kitchen was about to close and we got all that we ordered fast and hot

Nancy Symski

I really enjoyed this place. Great atmosphere, plenty of dining tables in several side rooms, but keeping an intimate feel. The bar is awesome, with signs and posters , and the walls are covered with the jazz bands signatures. There is also fantastic stone arches. My daughter ordered a bluesberry, and loved it. We both had chicken and waffles, with a shared order of salt and vinegar fries. I was actually making little happy noises when I was eating it was so good . The chicken was delicious, the waffle was light and fluffy, and it came with a side of mac n' cheese. We were in the area to go to the Bushnell, and already decided we will come back next time.

Doris Ortiz

Excellent service and the live band was great!

Greg Chapmon

So far, this is the best food I've had in Hartford/East Hartford. The atmosphere is cool, too. I can't wait to go back for the live music and drink specials!

Maya Burlingham

Great celebration of Fat Tuesday. They have the best Mardi Gras party around. Complimentary happy hour buffet and later a 3 course dinner for $32 pp. Cool band playing and locals hanging out. Parking in the back of building for $6 night. Excellent choice if that is what you want.

Sean Stearley

Unique location and food. Some of the best Southern cooking in the area, including BBQ and Cajun. Live music and a locally legendary Sunday brunch. A Hartford-area institution.

Zuko Zuko

Love this place awesome food excellent service has been around forever and has never dissapointed Cajun shrimp with cheddar grits is excellent the brisket sandwich it perfect the Mac and cheese is really good ( best after it has cooled down) the Nashville boneless wings appetizer is awesome and huge the prices are a little high but well worth it and not too ridiculous the staff is super friendly and very accommodating the food runners are very polite and will spend a minute or 2 talking to you about any questions that you may have I remember going here years ago and it was awesome and I am glad to say that it is still awesome the atmosphere is very relaxed this is a great place to have a few drinks at the bar or to have a pleasant meal don't hesitate go now

Shelley Kagan

Well we didn't actually get to stay because we had to pay for parking and we didn't want to pay for parking and we wanted to be closer to home which is in East Hartford so we went to eat in East Hartford

Charlette S

The food was great, but the service was poor. We waited 20-30 minutes after the appetizer to receive the entree and additional 20 minutes to check out. We had to bring the card to the server. Not cool as I recommended the restaurant to my family. Owner please staff appropriately.

Armanthia Duncan

I usually love this place. However, today was not a good day. The service by the waitress who greeted me at the front door to take my to-go order was disappointing, and the food was very below the quality and standard of this place. My Mac and cheese was dry and tasted like a kid made it. My blackened salmon was over cooked and under-seasoned. And they were out of blackened catfish. Just an overall disappointment, which I hate because I usually love this place and the atmosphere I’m even on the email list.

Laya Lane

Waitress was very rude.Felt as though we was interrupting her when asking for services. She also kept trying to take the alcoholic meanu from us , when we insisted on reviewing them. The live jazz was great but limited seating to view it.

Craig Buchanan

Good BBQ and blues/rock scene. Pricey but great atmosphere and food

sixties bounce

Great place, but half of your staff are pretty useless. I was waiting at the table of over 20mns before I got up and asked the bar to take my order. Great food and cool shows though.

Talithia Hargrove

Great music, great atmosphere, and great staff! I'm from NC and I loved this place! Wonderful date night with my husband!

Laura Kinlock

Great food and atmosphere. A nice selection of craft beers too!

Rick Solis

Arrived at 11:45 and waited with other groups to be seated. Since it was lunch I didn't have much time. I got tired of waiting and went to the bar. I still had a bit of a wait until the bartender arrived and sat all the people first. When my food arrived the sausage was burnt and dried out and the rest of the food was warm not hot. The plate should have never left the kitchen this way. The bartender was swamped trying to seat everyone, make drinks, as well as wait tables. Never asked how my food was and never offered a refill on my empty glass. It wasn't until she went to take my plate that I had an opportunity to address the issue. Management needs to do a better job of distributing duties as well as quality control in the kitchen.

Ana Barraza

Beware of you have a shelfish allergy, the fried chicken is fried in same oil or same fryerlator as seafood. Otherwise a great place to eat food was delicious

Cobra Commander

Rats roaches and more rats place is nasty dont know how they are still open if you care about cleanliness then this is not the place for you stay away. Trust me roaches and rats everywhere

Matthew Wagner

Great soul food and BBQ. Live music is among the best in Hartford. An institution on Asylum!

Sylvester McGovern

Chicken Wings weren't cleaned properly and had some feathers on still. Mac and Cheese was thickened with excessive amounts of flour to the point it was visible in the cheese. Food was overall salty.

Kim Ciak

we went for battle of the bands, we showed up a day early the hostess and the bartender were very friendly. We went back the next day for battle of the bands and had a great time. I love this place, great food, good variety of drinks and awesome entertainment.

Ashley G. Benítez

You're going to like the atmosphere if you enjoy blues, jazz and soul. I got some wings and rice+beans and it was really nice.

Mickey Wings

Love this place! Great place for music, people and a splash of southern food!

Hope Mack

The food was not as good as everyone is staring in the reviews. They must have had their family and friends to write them. The only thing good at this place was the band , who keep introducing the band members. It nice a cozy there were a total of 18 people including me and my husband. The waitress only came to our table twice but she was super sweet and honest. So not true southern food. The sweet tea was not even sweet tea more like almost sweet colored water. The lemonade was good if you like lemonade, which I don't so trust me when I say good. Truly our first time here and definitely the last time. $ 53.00 of over cooked food that we couldn't chew. The burnt end were taken to a whole nother level. They were hurt to the point of them being inedible. True fact from someone that was excited about eating here

Amy Sylvain

Went here for dinner on a Friday night at 6, not busy and we were seated quickly. Our server Dimitri was so nice and helpful and really knew the menu, he was so attentive and friendly. The beer selection was good, my bf ordered a beer and I got a hurricane which was really good and huge. We got the dry rub wings for an app and they were big and juicy and my bf is still raving about them. I got the brisket sandwich that came with bbq chips and he ordered the jambalaya.

Amy Anderson

Have been here twice when in Hartford- food is tasty and comfortable. The first time I wandered in, there was live music and the place was filled without being too crowded. Fun cocktails as well.

Jason and Dawn Maker

Originally went for just fried green tomatoes which were great! I then had BBQ Brisket Mac and Cheese which was also great! She had a brisket sandwich and gumbo which she loved. Everything from the food, drinks to the atmosphere was definitely great to experience while in Connecticut!

Sula & Mike Everitt

Stopped by Black-Eyed Sally’s for an impromptu lunch the other day. As I entered I was immediately struck by their unique decor/artwork and jazz themed decor. The food was delicious, I ordered the brisket Mac n cheese and my husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich. The meat was tender and flavorful and the Mac n cheese was gooey and cheesy. Look forward to heading there again for an evening of live jazz and good southern food.

Kidra Woods

Ate at Black-Eyed Sally's last night Food and service was amazing. But I had an issue in the parking lot there is a man out there scamming people He has on a security jacket he says that he works at the parking lot and you have to pay to park. When I reported this to the restaurant manager I was told that it happens all the time and the guy scams people all the time and I just think they should be a better job at informing the customers !!!

Willard Dennis

A fun restaurant to visit with a charming and unique atmosphere that adds a little soul to downtown Hartford. The lively blues music and eclectic decor complete with a large painting of Elvis Presley inside the front door was really fun. The service was a little slow but everyone was very friendly and hospitable. My friend really enjoyed the fried shrimp po boy sandwich with mac and cheese and I devoured the Memphis rubbed wings, salt and vinegar fries, and red beans and rice.

Kris Witherill

Great food, service, and atmosphere

Noah Sheroff

Have not been here many times but I must say that each time the food was great, the staff was friendly and such an awesome atmosphere

Nelson Ruiz

Great brisket and good live music

David Burrell

Great bbq and live music, two thumbs up!

Brandon Perry

Being from the south I know great BBQ. So I was kind of sceptical about eating it. The brisket turned out to be amazing and the southern style collard greens we're also delicious. They have a very extensive beer list. They have lots of rare selections. Also, everything is reasonably priced. They have live music several nights a week. If you are looking for southern style BBQ in the Northeast this is your best bet! Who ever said they can't cook BBQ here is mistaken.

Michael Hughes

Everything is crazy good. So good in fact, I almost left my kids because they chose chicken fingers, then wanted to eat my ribs! They have to respect boundaries, am I right?!?!?! Love blues was a total plus. Great gluten free choices. Next time I'm in Hartford, I'm coming back.

Melissa Albright

Such a great place! Food is legit off the hook delicious. Service is a bit slow, but everyone is super friendly and doing the best the best they can to serve a large number of people. Ambiance is awesome - so fun! Live music was great and added to the great vibe. So happy to have stumbled upon this place while visiting Hartford.

Donna Field

Great food, fun cocktails, and the music was a bonus!! Traveled over an hour to try this restaurant and will return!

Peter Burton

Black Eyed Sally's is one of the better spots we've eaten at in the Hartford area. The notion of a Louisiana-style restaurant in New England and the wonderfully garish decorations we encountered when we walked in had us on guard, but the hostess's warm welcome and table selection put us very much at ease. For one, the servers knew the food and helped us choose a good selection of appetizers and main courses. The dishes were well executed, tasty, and nicely plated. (Our leftover gumbo and collard greens were even better the following day!) All in all, the place was well run, the food was delicious. The place seemed legit. We'll happily go back there again soon. (I hope they replace plastic straws and to-go containers with biodegradable ones soon.)

Susan Wavada

Showed up early to have a sampling of the food for a late lunch. It was all good. Beer was cheap and because I had a great table to watch my favorite band compete (2 weeks ago) in the CT Blues Challenge, the entire band sat with me! A great afternoon. Friendly atmosphere, as all Blues venues are.

Timothy Myers

We were lucky to call early enough to get a reservation if we came right away. That was 7:00 on a Thursday night! Fun spot with great bbq ribs, paintings on the wall and service was very pleasant. The crowd was mixed with young and older adults who all seemed to come for the music - check out the selection of bands when you are in town and be sure to call ahead!

David Richardson

Nice place, good food. Good time.

Jay Parker

While I enjoyed the company the food left much to be desired. The dishes did not arrive in a timely manner and when it did the famous red beans and rice was cold and tasteless not a hint of smoked meat or seasoning let alone cajun seasoning. I ordered chicken and waffles as my main course the chicken was very dry as if it had been refried to heat it up it didn't work it was cold and dry. The waffles were not scratch made definitely frozen . My companions suffered the same disappointment with their respective dishes with cold and tasteless being the common complaint. One dish looked as it had been slapped together with time running out on the clock. The restaurant was not crowded so I feel they have no excuse . The rating I gave two stars was very generous given the inattentive and distance attitude of our server I'll eat at home before I go there next time.

Steve W

Awesome Brisket Sandwich, everyone enjoyed the meals !!!

Matthew Reynolds

Great food and friendly atmosphere. A good variety of local beers on tap.

Sha Henry

Great food

Andrew Cutler

This was a random choice, couldn't have been happier! Tasty BBQ and a show! I would be a regular if I were local.

Jacob Dufault

Great food, very friendly service. Been going here for years and always a good time

kevin clark

Fantastic food great service definitely eating here again when I go back to Connecticut

David Ferraro

Always a great place to see blues bands. Great food, drink, service and atmosphere.

Michael McTigue

The chix n waffles smacks harder than a B.B. King guitar solo riff!

Ann-Marie Hurt

Has the feel of New Orleans. We had the catfish, and the fried chicken which were excellent. They were nicely flavored and hot. The only disappointment was the mac and cheese . It looked and tasted like it came from a box. There was. I stinginess of the cheese or nothing. For dessert, the bourbon pecan pie tart was to die for.

Timothy Degnan

Good food,(southern style), and nice friendly atmosphere. Prices a little high though but would recommend giving it a try.

Sidney Hale

These guys do BBQ right. Slow cooked. Nursed with love. They have some great music shows as well. Don't forget to try the cheese grits, yum. Take me home, West Virginia, indeed.

Tom Owens

Damm great Bbq.. we came all the way across the USA. From Cali.. so it was worth it

Zelda Covington

Went there for a perfect 1st date. I'm sure it was an oversight because the place was packed, people were having an awesome time all around the place, but we I had to ask for utensils and napkins even after our food and drinks had been served at 2 different times. Will definitely frequent there. The food was magnificent

Scott Struzinski

Love this place! Food is excellent & the vibe is fun! A piece of NOLa in Ct.

Andrew Satterberg

Only went for dinner, didn't get to stay for the music but the BBQ was pretty good. The sides and the sausage were all great!

Audrey Delnicki

Caesar salad with blackened catfish is awesome. Highly recommend.

Yvette

Cool atmosphere. I loved the decor. We went at lunch time so the was plenty of seating. I sat at the bar. I had a black cherry cider that was the BEST! To eat I tried the Pig out platter (I think that was the name) that had cheese grits, red beans and rice, 2 bbq spare ribs, pulled pork, 1/2 an andouille sausage & a piece of cornbread. Most of the meal was delicious!! The pulled pork had a few too many pieces of fat but it tasted good. The sausage was ok but it just wasn't great so I didn't eat much of it. The cornbread was on the dry side so I gave that to my friend. The rest of the meal was great and I ate all of it. Bartender/server was nice. Overall it was a B+. I think trying it at night when they have music playing would definitely add to the enjoyment factor.

George Woo

Awesome food and music

Sky Unique

The food was so good! Me and my friends came from a show of Circus Soliel and wanted to find a place to eat, and we were all so happy to have chosen Sally's. Atmosphere and service was great.

Karen East

It was fabulous..Tommy was the best bartender ever!!

Michael dickerson

Had the ribs, chicken, rice and beans all good

Dat MoFo

As always, a wonderful dining experience. Whether it is lunch or dinner the atmosphere and ambiance is awesome. The food is beyond delicious. A lil on the salty side, though you know that going in. The atmosphere is nostalgic yet current, the music matches the jazz theme throughout the restaurant. If you're looking for a great place to eat or drink in downtown Hartford, or some soulfood, go no further than Black-Eyed Sally's!

ittybittytoast

Really great service, awesome staff and tasty food :)

Brian Miller

Good concept of the southern food and music. Outside the bar (streetfront) dining is a bit of a miss as it's on the business and probably 20 buses stopped there during the hour meal. Homeless walking by, and waitstaff was doing their best but could use polish and assistance. They were clearly running ragged. Good food. Nice waitstaff.

Cyrayia Randolph

One of my favorites. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the food is delicious, servers are pretty good with bringing your food out when its hot n ready. Its like being home. I do wish they had potato salad somewhere on the menu. But their lemonade and cornbread makes up for it

David St. Hubbins

Great venue and beer selection. Unfortunately, I have been sick for three days now. Do yourself a favor and do not eat here if you need to be at the XL center that night

K Leigh

So hard to find parking for this place. They have an open mic on Wednesday but it's very short and ends too early for an open mic in my opinion!

Natalie Vaughan

The absolute best BBQ in Connecticut!! The beef brisket is the best I have ever eatin. The warm, cozy, funky vibe in this eatery is worth going there alone. But add in great food and live music just an awesome place.

Denise Chavez

This is one of those places you talk about with friends! Incredible in every way! Food can't be matched! Atmosphere is fun and exciting like nothing else in the Hartford area! I love going on nights that they have their live entertainment! A flawless way to spend an evening!

Girish Vasudevan

Great music, food and atmosphere

Gabrielle Contois

The service was great. Great atmosphere. I will definitely be back.

Paul Guidry

Teri OBrien

AWESOME PLACE!!!!!!!!Great bar with outstanding food. On the trendy side but approachable and relaxed atmosphere. Staff is very friendly and engaging.

Ryan Casey

Great food all around, it definitely lives up to the southern cooking label. The live music is enjoyable as well

Lisa Evans

Really good food! I was surprised I liked it so much! The portions were big, and the freshness and flavor was great.

Curtis Challenger

Great spot for a night out. Stopped in for a few drinks, stayed for the live band and dancing. Missed the kitchen, but they brought us some cornbread, warm and oh do enjoyable. Service is amazing and the staff very friendly. Great time!

Ivette Palacin

Omg corn grits with cheddar cheese!! Collard greens - woah!!! Nashville hot chicken wings, tender and smoked. Great food and live music. Incredible place!

Me and boyfriend had dinner i was excited for mac n cheese we were highly disappointed in our dinner dry mac n cheese with alot of bread crumbs extremely dry beef brisket that i couldn't even swallowed and a waitress that was only concerned with getting out of work and my boyfriend burger was dry too and burned chips there was a drunk guy and the bar tender was complaining about how she always has to deal with drunk people. We will never again waste money on this restaurant ever again

The food here is consistently tasty and the service was excellent, from the hostess to the waiter. The best part though is always the entertainment which draws a crowd so make reservations if you plan to go.

The food and live music was great! Perfect place to take out of town guests!

We went on a Tuesday and saw the 17 piece jazz ensemble that was AMAZING! We shared the Burnt Ends, coleslaw, fries and cornbread. The Burnt Ends we're crispy on the outside and tender inside. We both really liked the coleslaw and a side was plenty for two people. Our service was great and we were fortunate to find on street parking at 6:30pm. We're definitely going back again on a Tuesday.

Raw chicken! I have been to Blackeye Sally's for years because I love there Sally's chopped salad with blackened chicken. I went and picked my food up for lunch. After taking bites of it I realized it tasted funny and the texture was off but I couldn't figure out from what so after looking over it I realized the chicken wasn't cooked. I called but the person on the phone didn't seem to be that concerned so I emailed them plus sent pictures. I wasn't looking for a reward but some type of acknowledgement that they were sorry and that this wouldn't happen again. So this is why I'm making it public. Please check your chicken to make sure it is cooked. Thank God I didn't get sick!

Very nice restaurant, centrally located. Gumbo was excellent, beer was cold and music was interesting. Service personnel very pleasant and professional. Will come back again.

I had an amazing meal, ( fried chicken with a memphis rub) and it was fantastic, not to mention the scenery around me was captivating. beautiful decorations, it also smelled great in there. 10/10 would definitely eat there again.

Great place to eat soul food

The red beans and rice was actually under cooked, like the rice was almost raw, or they burned it. The brisket was a bit dryer than normal and it didn’t have enough sauce, actually one piece was inedible. The mashed potatoes was meh and the chicken was okay. The corn bread was the best thing you can tell they definitely use jiffy brand corn bread (nothing wrong with that!!!) the fried green tomatoes was also too thick

You can not make a bad decission here! Everything tastes great!

Although sometimes a little loud, the live music is superb! The food is good and the service is amazing (& friendly).

Leon Smith

The music is great but the rest of the experience is average. As a native of the south, their dishes were just okay. Moderately seasoned, some items not as tender and they needed to be (ribs, brisket). Service could be better, as the front of the house had a huge bottleneck of people waiting for takeout and people waiting for seating despite 70% f the tables being empty. A place with potential that probably should be better than it is.

Absolutely amazing food! You gotta try this place!

Cool atmosphere, good beer selection and the jambalaya was excellent! The service was great. Will be going back.

We were in Hartford to go to the Bushnell, so we decided to go to Black-Eyed Sally's for an early dinner. We were seated promptly. She ordered a Moscow Mule and I had a Stella draft. She ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs and I had the Po-Boy with catfish. Both of us enjoyed our dishes and the warm cornbread that was brought to our table was excellent. The service was friendly. We will go back.
