While visiting family in Dayville they brought us to this gem. This place was great all around! Fantastic atmosphere, friendly, tentative staff, and the old fashioned was good. The prime rib is a must! I tried a bite of my sister-in-law's and wished I had ordered it over the brisket. Not to say the brisket wasn't good it was very flavorful just a little on the dry side but overall delicious. We had the fried pickle chips as an appetizer, they were some of the best I've ever had and the garlic / dill infused sourcream paired perfectly with them. Highly recommend this to anyone in the area!

The food is beyond delicious. The apps are on the smaller side and would expect a bit more for the prices. The time from sitting down at the table to when the food comes out can be a little long sometimes. The atmosphere, friendly wait staff and quality of the food make up for the wait.

The place has great atmosphere, great staff, and a really good selection of beer on tap. Granted; the beer prices are pretty steep (we're talking premium, craft brews); but other than that - great place. Hands down the best part is the food. The prices are pretty decent, the portions are great, and the quality is outstanding. All in all; I certainly would recommend coming here at least once. You won't regret it!

Been here 5 times...always loved the food. However they used to offer 12 WHOLE smoked wings for 18.95 Which is slightly high in itself. However they now only give you 12 average sized wingettes/drums for the same price. Someone please revisit this. $9.50 for six wingettes/drums is ridiculous. Not even in the ballpark for a fair price.

Ordered buffalo chicken tenders, sent my fiancé to pick up. Came home and bit into fish doused in buffalo sauce in my food when I have a seafood allergy. Called for a refund because I couldn’t eat it and was told I should’ve told them I had a food allergy, sorry no where in my order was fish ordered. I’d definitely be questioning their cleanliness for that to happen, was told someone would call me back and no one ever did. Disappointed, especially in the rudeness of the staff will never go there again.

My wife and I were going to the Courthouse Bar and Grill, but for some unknown reason they were closed on Superbowl Sunday, which was the second time they let us down for being closed for no reason. We ended up at the Black Dog and everything was great! They even had free Superbowl raffles and gift bags!!!

We have had good meals and bad meals at the Black Dog. Last night we went with another couple. When I was half done with my Shipyard chicken, I noticed a piece of the wrapping paper from the chicken that was not removed before it was cooked. I'm sure I ate some before I saw it. Yuk!! They only comped my meal and said sorry. Ok...when the bill came we put in our card and our friends put in $100. Then they left $30 for tip. Unfortunately we didnt check the receipt.. (stupid) because instead of splitting the bill , the kid charged all on my card and kept $130 tip. Never will go there again

This is our second time at the black dog. Wife had the baked fish and I had the stuffed shrimp. Both were excellent as well as the two different types of martinis that I had. Sat at the bar and I waitress was awesome. Looking forward to going back again

Came here for dinner and had a good experience, friendly staff and great service. Full bar with dining tables around, dining area and banquet/ball room. So many great options to choose from.. smoked bbq, burgers, sandwiches, salads, apps. I had a smooth tasting IPA feeling HOP-Y from local microbrewery with the Surf and turf plate.. 8oz steak, stuffed shrimp, garlic mashed red potatoes and grilled brussel sprouts.. it was great, very filling. I would come here again to try their bbq for sure.

Placed a good size take out order and got the food all the dishes were extremely dry and no sauce at all called and was told oh drive back and we will give you some right I'm going to drive 20 minutes each way to get sauce so upon return food would be cold. Called to speak to manager and was told she was very busy and would return my call which she never returned what a manager. Very dissatisfied. Ps very busy on a Tuesday sure

Awesome brisket.! I ordered the burnt ends, which was anything but burnt.. cut with a fork tender. The menu says it's the most flavorful cut, and they aren't lying. I tried the kielbasa as well, very good..if you like Bbq this place is a great choice.

If you're going here to eat, do not use the first entrance you see (the one with the awning). This brings you to one of their bars and the back side of the restaurant where there is a sign posted that the hostess is in the front. Unless you want to walk through everyone and look confused doing so, this is not the way to go. Drive to the second entrance of the restaurant. This is the 'MAIN' entrance per say and they really should do something to mark it better. With that said, I had a wonderful experience here. The meals are terrific and the service is really great. There was live music that night which also made the atmosphere come more alive. We did make a reservation before arriving and still waited fifteen minutes which was pretty disappointing. I also noticed that one of hostess had their parents show up unexpectedly that night so they seated them before us which I think was the reason for our wait. Because this place is super busy and the food is worth it, it's definitely recommended to make a reservation before coming or you'll be looking at thirty to forty-five minutes before getting a table. They do have seating at their bar and elsewhere though so that you're not uncomfortable.

I've only been a couple of times the BBQ is really good but the fried fish had a odd taste almost like a chemical flavor not sure it seemed really fresh so maybe it was the batter or the oil they use,for me I'll stick to the BBQ next time

We just had our 30 year class reunion here at the Black Dog (Ellis Tech Class of 1989) and it was awesome. We had 44 guests and everything was great. The service was excellent. The BBQ buffet was delicious, price was reasonable, and the space is comfortable and classy. Great beer list. The management and servers took care of all of our needs.

How does a town this small have a restaurant that nails it every time?! This is a large space, with an amazing menu of smoked meats, steaks, wings, and appetizers, all of them (that I've tried at least) exceeding expectations. Highly recommend the "burnt ends" brisket and the kielbasa, topped with a good portion of the hot sauce at the table. The clothesline bacon will change your perspective on bacon, the scallops are a great appetizer, the smoked wings are very good, the sides are delicious, and the service is always good. I traveled for work to Dayville, spent a total of about 7 days there, and ate here five times for dinner. There were other choices, sure, but this place just beat all the other restaurants nearby. It's a very good place to eat. Again, get that clothesline bacon!

We've been going here since they opened and have never been disappointed...until they took the "Best In Show" off the menu. Still can't understand that move but I recently tried the Burnt Ends and found my new favorite! The name put me off because I have a low tolerance for overcooked, dry meat but these little pieces of meat candy are no where near overcooked or dry. Try them! You won't be disappointed!
