I went twice in one weekend with a friend. I have a gluten sensitivity and found it on the "find me gf" app. I ended up having a dish with the angel hair rice noodles, first with steak and then with chicken. Both were excellent. Everything tasted fresh and I didn't have any reactions. I also ordered the gluten free chicken teriyaki one day and the spring rolls. Both were incredibly tasty. My friend had the general tso chicken and had a slightly different experience. The first day it was excellent but the second day the chicken quality was sub-par (fatty and grissle). I saw someone complained about the front end girls, but each time everyone was very friendly. It is a take out style place with very little seating; however, we comfortably sat there to eat. I will definitely be going back. *Addition to previous review: I also experienced the chicken issue. It's the rubbery texture after cooking previously frozen food and then reheating. Not enough of an issue to refuse to go back but unpleasant.

Quick service, always busy, very popular. Small eat-in area, self-serve hot tea for diners or folks waiting for takeout. If you want any mods, just let 'em know more garlic or no zucchini or whatever. Very accommodating.

It took some guts to open up a small restaurant right next to a well-established sit down Chinese restaurant in town. This place will usually be packed when you come to pick up your takeout food, but the food is excellent. Everything always tastes like it was freshly prepared, which is not something I can say for most small takeout restaurants. We think this is the best Chinese food in the area by far. On a busy night you may have to park around back.

The best gluten free egg rolls you'll find anywhere, no doubt. I don't understand some of the reviews on here. I've been here ~5 times and I love it, it's a kind of clean American-Chinese fusion with fresh ingredients and I hope it catches on. Nothing is greasy, only the best cuts of meat are used, the shrimp are all deveined and detailed. Everything I need is always in the bag, it's done on time, and the people are mostly friendly. I highly recommend the GF Singaporean Mei Fun if you like things spicy.

Worst prices and they say the lunch special only includes the rice!! What?! Are you kidding me? Every other place includes the rice and you get your choice either egg roll, soup or soda. These people charge $7 a lunch portion with or without the rice!! So what’s the special?! Seriously and then it was cold broccoli and over cooked meat. Well I got tofu and it was like rubber. The sauce was like jello. Worst ever. And they claim 4.3 stars. No way. Go somewhere else people. There are better options.

Deliveries takes too long. For take outs you have to call an hour before. Always at almost full capacity. Sometimes I feel that they sacrifice quality in order to do everything quick and serve more people. I think they are better when they're not busy!

One star for the simple fact that this place is super expensive, even during lunch. The portion was very small, chicken was rubbery and they dont even offer an egg roll or anything with their platters. This will be my last time since I can spend less money elsewhere and get more of a bang for my buck.

Food was cooked fresh, and everything but the wontons are made fresh from scratch! I had the orange chicken, house soup, chicken fried rice, and pork steamed dumplings. Everything was hot and fresh, and very generous portions. The duck sauce is amazing, and the soup actually had more ingredients than broth!

Amazing flavor and overall culinary experience with this restaurants food. As the dinner guest of friends the night before; where attempting to take leftovers would have been extremely tacky, I had to have more! Not exactly sure of the main dishes ordered, I called for an order and described the flavors and ingredients of the dishes with success - the food was that memorable - places the order and 25 minutes later my craving was soothed. I will definitely return for more and tell my friends about Black Bamboo...my new culinary taboo.

Might I say this was one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve ever tasted everything was fresh and delicious it gave me a Panda Express / PF Chang type of vibe when I ate it. Everything was on point even the Staff.. when I walked into the restaurant everything was organized & cleaned unlike most Chinese restaurants in Hartford. I try not to eat Chinese Food like that, but Black Bamboo will definitely get my money again looking forward to trying more things on the menu.

The menu is diverse and has great options. The general tsos chicken sauce was gummy and not spicy at all. I've had better. The orange chicken was not able to be ordered in the dinner special. Overall the food was 4 star, BUT i was very annoyed with the delivery policy. Even though I was located less than 4 miles away, apparently because my address was not technically in West Hartford, they couldn't deliver. Keep in mind I am MAYBE 0.5 miles from the West Hartford/Bloomfield line. So that was dumb and I probably won't ever order again.

This is by far one of the best Chinese restaurants I've ever been to. I really enjoy the vegan section of the menu. I have tried the vegan drumsticks and the vegan orange chicken.I recommend both. The food is so good and the portions are big. Not only do I enjoy the food, but the service is great too. I mistakenly left my purse at home once, the owner gave me my food anyway and trusted me to call with my card when I got home. He trusted me to do the right thing and that meant a lot to me. Great customer service and food. I can't wait to come here again.

Based on a 4.2 review score and some misleading reviews, I invited a work colleague here. This is not a sit down restaurant and the food is very basic. Staff is friendly but seem to be working at temp jobs through college/ high school and know little about their own menu. I ordered take home “plain” beef for my son with allergies. I was clear that I wanted “no seasoning”. They sold me beef that was marinated and called it “plain”. I don’t think the girl knew the difference. But when I called to complain, she was rude and insisted the meat was plain when it wasn’t! That is just wrong. They should have refunded my card. The place is very tiny. Maybe 10 cramped seats where you’re touching knees with other diners in a 10x10 square that is shared with a beverage freezer. It is more of a take out place than sit down. Food is economical. It’s quick-made, efficiency food that is overpriced for what it is. It’s fine if you’re hungry and need something fast and don’t need a special order and aren’t on a health conscious diet. and aren’t looking for atmosphere. And fine is fine. But they should refund wrong orders, know their menu and reviewers should not mislead people about the type of restaurant this is.

1st time there. My co-workers swear by this place. The food was nasty and tasteless. I had the boneless ribs with shrimp fried rice and order of golden fingers. I ate 3 to 4 spoonfuls of the rice with 3 shrimps. Golden fingers wasn't fully cooked funny taste. I threw the food in the garbage. I should've went to the north end of Hartford to get my food!!! At least I know what to expect for my money. Expensive for what?

Disappointing after all the hype, unfortunately over rated. Went a few weeks ago for take out lunch and ordered a basic item- General Tso's chicken with pork fried rice (combo meal), also got a shrimp roll. About $10. A guy, possibly the manager, was talking this up as a great deal. I was thinking you usually get that whole order as a combo meal for $7-8 at any Chinese fast food spot but withheld comment because I wanted to try the food first, thinking maybe it was better quality. Chicken was soggy which should not be. There was also a strange taste to the sauce that I couldn't quite put my finger on, made it a bit souring. The pork fried rice was pork fried rice because the rice was fried, and there was pork in it- 2 pieces to be exact that just about equaled a forkful. What? Really?! Shame laoban (boss). Really didn't find the food to be any better than any other Chinese fast food spot in the area, would not return or recommend.

Black Bamboo is not a sit down restaurant with wait staff and drinks, it is more of a take out restaurant. The owner is terrific. The front staff is not as personable. Most of the times I’ve stopped in to pick up an order, the young women at the counter always seem annoyed that they have to work. The delivery drivers are always nice. The food is good; not phenomenal. American Chinese and not authentic Chinese.

So I went into this lil shop and right off the bat I loved the energy. Reggae music playing, diversity between the employees, the girls behind the counter were sooo sweet. And the vegan menu looked amazing. Since I gave up meat I haven’t been able to enjoy Chinese food the same way that’s the one cuisine I loved and now never eat bc of my food choices. So when I saw vegan orange chicken (my fav during my meat eating days) I was ecstatic! And it’s made of seitan not just another tofu replacement! I can’t even tell you how good it was I am so impressed with this place. Thank you guys so much for not only having a vegan friendly menu but actually putting in the effort to make it so good! Even my meat eating family loved what little amount I saved for them! I haven’t enjoyed a Chinese meal like this in sooo long. This experience actually just made my day I seriously encourage everyone to go try this place!

Best Chinese food in CT. The Chow Mei Fun is amazing, the crab rangoons are the best around, and the fried rice is perfect. That said, the place is extremely small (think NYC takeout small) so plan to get takeout. There are probably a dozen seats available, but it's really cramped. The parking lot can be a headache too, but there's more parking around the side and back of the building. Definitely worth a try.

Although we have enjoyed this Chinese take out before, we no longer do. The vegetable fried rice did not have any vegetables and was basically steamed brown rice with peas. That is not what most would consider vegetable fried rice. I don't know what happened, but it seems their quality and consistency have gone way down. It's a shame since they did have decent food a few months ago.

Worst most overpriced food we have ever had. We always go to greentea which is by far the best around but is in the middle of moving locations. So tried this place since nearby. All we got was pork fried dumplings, crab rangoons and egg rolls and literally is the worst food we have ever had. Threw out 90% of the food.... that was overpriced as is (40$ for a couple appetizers). Undercooked. Chewy, barely any meat and no flavor. Just plain awful. Would never go back again and recommend the same to anyone else. Go to GreenTea if want great Chinese!
