Today was the last time I will ever step foot into this restaurant and no one is more sad about this than I am. This is the place I've called my favorite restaurant for years; living in NYC and regularly dining at 3 Michelin star restaurants, this says a lot. This was the place at which I chose to celebrate my birthday with friends a few months ago, despite a two hour drive and the necessity of an overnight stay at a nearby inn. It was on my birthday that me and my guests had a very uncomfortable experience there and encountered a very unprofessional, condescending staff - back then I decided not to write a poor review since I loved this restaurant dearly and recognized that it must have been a difficult situation for both sides. (It involved my party switching our bar seats with another guest who had reserved seats at a table). Today when I returned for the first - and last - time since this experience, we sat down at the bar and were about to order lunch. Just prior to ordering, the chef (!) rushed out of the kitchen - I had never him seen before - approached our table, and condescendingly questioned whether we planned to stay in our seats this time (unlike the last time we were here on my birthday). I was so flabbergasted by his patronizing tone - and the sheer fact that he specifically came to our table to make us feel uncomfortable - that I couldn't even react. Simply outrageous. This is not a way to treat customers. This is not the kind of service I expect at a restaurant of this quality. This is not the kind of service that I expect at any kind establishment that exists to provide customers with a joyful experience. I am heartbroken as the quality of the food is simply outstanding, but cannot recommend this place to anyone that expects to be treated with respect and dignity. There are other places that serve outstanding food and at the same time value their customers. Remove review

Took the family to the ice cream ship. Had the Pistachio on a waffle cone. Ice cream was so fresh. Absolutely delicious. The store was beautiful and clean. The Arethusa Restaurant next door was also very warm and inviting. Would like to try it one day. Regarding the waffle cone, also fresh and tasty. Note: The scoops are very generous! One scoop was the size of two! Ice cream prices were very reasonable for the quality and taste. Would recommend to everyone!!

Fresh Eggs Daily with Lisa Steele

We were thrilled to be able to have lunch at Al Tavolo today after taking a tour of Arethusa Farm. The ambience is really nice and the wait staff impecablly trained. We shared the squash blossom appetizer and it was delicious. I opted for the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. The eggs were from chickens from the farm and perfectly poached. The rest of the table had the Lambwich (which was braised and shredded and accented with mint), the Chicken Fried sandwich, and the Ricotta withFlatbread (phenomenol). Everything was perfection. We decided to skip dessert and head next door for ice cream. Five star dining in the heart of Bantam Connecticut.

I walked in with my wife when they opened at 5:30pm. Hostess asked the manager to accomodate us since we did not have reservations. He said no table available after detailed eyeballing our appearance. What kind of restaurant is this not able to two people to accommodate without reservations? Obviously we did not pass his profiling.

Stepping down my previous review in light of recent events. I stopped by here to pick up a gift certificate before they opened for dinner. I called, and an employee picked up and came to let me in. I asked about wedding receptions and catering while I was there. The employee said they don't do that, and when I sought to clarify, she implied that they don't do that kind of thing for people like me. This was kind of entertaining, (removed identifying information). I'm eccentric, but I'm really not accustomed to being treated that way, and honestly I don't patronize organizations where even the poorest customers are treated this way. I really thought better of this establishment in general. After I left, I realized that when she'd asked me to sign the receipt, I set down my car keys. In attempting to retrieve them, I was surprised to find that no one would answer the phone, and more than 5 employees ignored my attempts to attract their attention to retrieve my keys. Finally, a man sweeping the floor looked up at me with an annoyed expression, saw my gesture at the keys on the greeter's podium, and handed them to me with some mockery. This smacks of southern Connecticut culture, and if this is the ambiance this place is going for, I'll be happy to send my friends somewhere else.

Great food and great ambiance, but they don't give you all of your leftovers. Ordered the Cuban sandwich which came with slaw and chips. Ate half the sandwich and asked for a box for the rest. What a shock to discover I didn't get my leftover slaw or chips. Make sure to ask to box your leftovers yourself or your may not get them all.

Hands down one of the best restaurants in CT. From the ambiance to the level of service and of course the food, Arethusa al Tavolo was amazing. We ordered 2 appetizers; the poached lobster and avocado salad as well as the house made ricotta and enjoyed both without being too full for our entrees. We wanted a nice bottle of wine to celebrate an achievement so our server called someone over to make suggestions on a red wine that would pair well with both red meat and fish which we appreciated. My fiance order the lamb trio which was prepared to perfection and I ordered the monk fish which you don't often see on dinner menus. Last, but not least we ordered dessert which was a great ending to our our already wonderful meal. The service was perfect. The server was timely, attentive and let us enjoy every course without making us feel rushed. We can't wait to return for another meal!

Excellent taste bud adventure! The hostess was a delight and very helpful from the moment we arrived. The waitress could use a little more personality, however the fellows running food to tables more than made up for her. They were witty friendly and knew every detail of each dish served. The butter and bread was on a level of it's own. I intentionally write it that way the butter was the star! Next the cheese plate out of this world with flavours and textures that whirl you through the land of Oz on an adventure. The Salt Cod starter was excellent with two sauces that made me smile with anticipation for dinner. I chose the Scallops perfectly cooked and seasoned on mushrooms and asparagus... Neither of which I'm a fan but I tried and to my delight in the right chefs hands are quite delicious. Finishing off the evening with two desserts that not only were mind blowing but I can peacefully and happily go into the eternal fully satisfied that I've tasted a bit of heaven. The owner did stop by the table to say hello and introduce himself. I only wish he waited till the end so I could have explained my full experience and the delights. My full recommendation to go enjoy, be adventurous in ordering also the cocktails are excellent too.

The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. I have been to other "very nice" restaurants where the staff seems to act like they are doing you a favor to wait on you. Not so at all here. Staff was incredibly friendly, service was quick and the food was phenomenal. Even struck up some conversations with our neighboring diners! It felt like a magical evening and I'm excited to go back!

The ride is very scenic. Take back roads if you have the time. If you don't get dessert at the resturant head next door afterwards for some of their homemade ice cream.

While the food was good and the presentation is amazing, the portions are very small. What is prevalent here is the profound "ass kissing" behavior that maybe some people like but I do not. The reality is, like any business, at the end of the night it is all an act for your money. I did notice that some of the "lesser" servers were more normal when you spent a moment with them. I give all of the staff credit for being so overly polite and... for lack of a better word, "subservient". I would last long enough to hit the first nasty client over the head with one of their heavy plates. I don't see a reason to go back. After all, in the end, this is a dairy business.

My son took me for my birthday. We sat outside and it was delightful. He is definitely a food critic and was in awe of all the dishes and photographed them, as well. Being from California and traveled extensively in his young life said probably the best meal he’s ever had. The meal, presentation, service, atmosphere, spacing between dishes were all exceptional. The staff was lovely. I had my first birthday candle to blow out in I can’t remember how many years. It was melted onto the plate. I could go on and on. I am still full from this meal, even though it was not heavy, just perfectly fresh, varied combinations. My son will write a more elaborate review for sure. Thank you for making my birthday dinner, the first day of summer and dining with my California boy so memorable.

This is truly a GEM for Northwest Connecticut. I am a fan of locally grown food and this is the cutting edge of the latter. Presentation is superb, and for those that enjoy a glass of wine, the wine list is incredible. The sommelier is top notch and willing to teach a bit of wine culture and flavor. As for the wait for food? Who would want to rush an exquisite meal with presentation to die for? For dessert I suggest the Arethusa cheese plate with fresh honeycomb paired with a Riesling. <3 a wine & FOOD loving girl from NWCT

My son took me for my birthday. We sat outside and it was delightful. He is definitely a food critic and was in awe of all the dishes and photographed them, as well. Being from California and traveled extensively in his young life said probably the best meal he’s ever had. The meal, presentation, service, atmosphere, spacing between dishes were all exceptional. The staff was lovely. I had my first birthday candle to blow out in I can’t remember how many years. It was melted onto the plate. I could go on and on. I am still full from this meal, even though it was not heavy, just perfectly fresh, varied combinations. My son will write a more elaborate review for sure. Thank you for making my birthday dinner, the first day of summer and dining with my California boy so memorable.

Amazing food and experience. Some of the low reviews on here further lower my opinion of humanity. Portions are too small? Really? There's a cheesecake factory in Danbury you could try. You weren't able to get a table without reservations? I think the McDonalds in Torrington usually has some open tables. Someone mentioned they go to Michelin star restaurants in New York but preferred this place until they had someone kick them out for being rude. At a high end establishment like this (and it IS high end), there is a certain agreement between client and service staff. You are here to experience the best cuisine in the state of Connecticut. They have no issues filling this place up (booking a week in advance for weekend seating). They offer world class service and food in exchange for your hard earned money, but don't expect them to cater to your every whim indefinitely as if they were desperate for your business. My fiance and I both had the best examples of food in our lifetime. There is a seasonal menu which means they are able to maintain a large amount of ingredients harvested locally in their farm. The only area they could improve is lighter entrees. I found the choice of mains was very hearty and rich, which is good for a fall menu, but after the starters I personally was looking for something lighter.

This is truly a GEM for Northwest Connecticut. I am a fan of locally grown food and this is the cutting edge of the latter. Presentation is superb, and for those that enjoy a glass of wine, the wine list is incredible. The sommelier is top notch and willing to teach a bit of wine culture and flavor. As for the wait for food? Who would want to rush an exquisite meal with presentation to die for? Take your time to investigate the layers of flavor and texture because they are subtle, harmonious, and interesting. Rediscovering familiar ingredients is a rare occurrence and a testament to the refined technique of a chef. The pastry chef James Arena will not go unnoticed. Sweetness is the thread that runs through all desserts and James utilizes it with expertise. The desserts I had perfectly showcased the focus of the dessert. The impact of the peaches and cherries in the last two desserts I had showed great respect for the fruit and an amazing talent for composition. Robert seated us and was attentive, professional, and warm. Our server was equally as professional with a delightful personality. The next meal cannot come soon enough.

The Ice Cream shop at New Haven is my favorite ice cream spot, not because it's tint and cozy and fresh at the same time, but because the best ice cream you can get. Great ingredients, large portions and full flavor. Then, wanted to try the al tavolo for a special occasion. Right. on. Spot. Romantic setup, great service, so great that my chairs were shaking from all the crew running sround to make customer's night even better, awesome food, really great recipes and high quality ingredients. I'd say a bit sweet for me but hey this is "new american" isn't it? Everything was cooked to perfection with decent presentations. I would not say this place is affordable for all, especially my audience as I'm not reviewing muck $$$ restaurants, I felt like it deserved it to the last cent. Oh, kudos to the police officer who actually paid for the dinner with letting us away with a warning. Roads are pretty sleek, if you don't have a limiter on your xar, you might find yourself way over the speed limit, drive safe guys, especially in inner roads, speed limits are there for a reason!

After living in town for a year we finally made it to Arethusa al tavolo. I'm a little disappointed that we have not been here sooner. As we walked in the front door we were greeted warmly by the host. My wife an I couldn't agree which was better the service or the food. We split an appetizer of clam flatbread, wish i didn't have to share and next time i won't. Together we had the duck and scallops dishes, both unbelievable. When I lived in the city we would eat out all the time and Arethusa is one of the best restaurants I've ever dine in. Is this my new favorite place? Not even a question absolutely!! We ordered 2 appetizers; the poached lobster and avocado salad as well as the house made ricotta and enjoyed both without being too full for our entrees. We wanted a nice bottle of wine to celebrate an achievement so our server called someone over to make suggestions on a red wine that would pair well with both red meat and fish which we appreciated. My fiance order the lamb trio which was prepared to perfection and I ordered the monk fish which you don't often see on dinner menus. Last, but not least we ordered dessert which was a great ending to our our already wonderful meal. The service was perfect. The server was timely, attentive and let us enjoy every course without making us feel rushed. We can't wait to return for another meal!

I had the "foraged mushroom flatbread" as an entree, and it was wonderful. THE STAFF IS UNPROFESSIONAL FOR THIS TYPE OF RESTAURANT. All looked sloppy and spoke poorly. The only person who presented himself well was the maitre d’. This restaurant is very upscale for the area and if they are charging upwards of $16 per appetizer and $30+ for entrees the staff should present themselves without wrinkled shirts and pants, messy hair and makeup under their eyes. Andrew was our server and he was very unprofessional how we spoke to us. Should be working at a burger joint. Food was just ok. Felt ripped off after we left. Had the chicken sandwich. Nothing special about it.
