Bread was stale cheese wasn't melted burger was somehow dry even though it was cooked with steam. Good soda selection. Place smells odd really don't recommend at all. There are other steamed burger places in the area one literally two blocks away. I wish Wallingford was part of the Quinnipiac Valley, have a feeling there health ratting would have warned me if the sub par food.

I've wanted to try American Steamed for awhile now. Found the coupon in Clipper mag. Ordered 2 steamed cheeseburgers and potato salad. Absolutely the best I've had! Poppyseed bun, yummy melty cheese, onion, tomato and juicy vinegary tasty pickle, was heaven to my mouth. My Grandmother made great potato salad, and this was just as wonderful! I will definitely tell my family and friends to go there. Definitely a hidden gem

This little place may be a hole in the wall but the food is just amazing because the owner dose not use grease on any of his food and the restaurant is incredibly clean. The owner is extremely friendly and remembers the name of his frequent patrons.

Very cute, hometown feel. The burger was thick and juicy. Bread was amazing. Both the macaroni and potato salads were clearly homemade and delicious. The blondie was literally the best blondie I've ever had. It is evident that a lot of love goes in to their food.

what a great little burger joint tucked between grand central and tatas. Want a delicious steamed cheese burger? go here right in Wallingford. We go there at least once a month they are always friendly and have some pretty great deals. Right now they only have burgers chips and cookies no fires yet.

This place is not fancy. It is, however, very tasty. The regular burger was very large, so I can't imagine the double exists for any purpose other than to feed a family of 4. They also have a good craft soft drink collection. It's hard to find Cheerwine north of the Mason dixon, but they have it.

10/28/17 Came back to try the burgers this time around and we were not disappointed! And the Mac salad and potato salad were very tasty too! All we can say is "WOW!" Best steamed food we have yet! We both had the steamed steak sandwich and will be back to try the other items on the menu!

I'm not sure what the draw here is...the burgers are dry and the cheese tastes terrible. The rolls are not toasted allowing them to get soggy. The restaurant itself is dirty and is in need of a fire inspection. I was shocked this place has been raved about over and over again. I suppose it's possible that these reviewers have never dined in a clean restaurant with edible hamburgers.

I was skeptical about getting one of these but I remember Stratford having a steamed burger place years ago and regretted never stopping in. I have to say it was alot better than I thought it would be. I had the hamburger with the works and my girl had a cheeseburger with the works but swapped the onion for roasted peppers. Stop by and give it a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed. There's street parking and a lot across the street.

A small place with alot of flavor. The burgers are delicious and range from one to two patties, choose from free and extra cost additions. A soft bun with the cheese melted and sides like potato salad with or without onions, chips, and assorted old style sodas. Seating is limited to one breakfast style nook for 8 and two 2-4 tables. They also have other hot sandwiches which I have not tried. So if you are in search of a easy, hot, delicious go-to burger then skip McDonald's and stop here. Support your local business.

Walked in and thought I went through the wrong door. This place doesn't look like or feel like a restaurant. Cluttered and eclectic decor. Not appealing in any way. There is no theme or style. Back half of the building is wasted space (as far as a restaurant goes) and detracts for an eating establishment. "This place ain't Ted's" was the best comment from our visit. The burger was mediocre at best. Tasteless cheese and half stale rolls. The size of the hamburger seemed rather small. On an up-note, they have a fantastic selection of bottle/can soda. This is where eclectic shines. The staff (owners?) were friendly and orderly.

A small, intensely local joint that knows how to work their steamer. Central Connecticut is known for their steamed cheeseburger oddity, but American Steamed has branched out to a variety of different steamed sandwiches to cater to a variety of tastes. I had their double steamed cheeseburger with their cheese and spicy mustard. The protein was juicy and full of flavor, despite it being medium well from the cooking process. They also provide a healthy serving of cheese (which is a bit saltier and sharper than other steamed hamburger mainstays) that locked in the juice and the flavor. There are a few options for kaiser rolls that help soak in the flavor from the burger and copious amounts of cheese which were appreciated. brought three friends from out of state and all of them agreed that it was the best cheeseburger they've ever had. What was surprising was the sheer amount of local sodas they had available. Foxon Park and others were represented. (Even my favorite, white birch beer.) Not Ally, I wouldn't be excited about soda, bit they even had classic Surge in their cooler. A great addition to the town, for sure. I just wish they were closer to me and hat a bit more dining space. Otherwise, the service was fantastic and I hope to get back there again soon.
