Omgoodness! What a find! We came from out of town to see a play next door. Afterwards, we were hoping to get some ice cream & they are open until midnight, on the weekend! We all had sundaes & it was worth every calorie! Everything about this sundae was delish, ice cream was creamy, fudge sauce was decadent & whipped cream was thick & fresh. It was perfect & we will actually make the 40 minute trip again, just to have a sundae!

This place is lost in time, and that's a good thing. I remember when their trucks delivered milk to our school and home. Their service is still friendly and the food delicious. Save room for dessert.

This is a public service announcement: literally the worst breakfast I’ve ever had. Ordered two eggs over easy with a grilled English muffin, bacon and hash browns. Eggs were brown over hard and cold. Hash browns were cheap patties dripping with old grease and bacon was soggy and fatty. The worst was the gray, greasy grilled English muffin coated with black from the grill. My boyfriend ordered fish and chips that were soggy, disgusting frozen battered fish bits fried in old grease with soggy, greasy French fries. We both were totally sick for the rest of the day. To top it off it cost $30 and we waited so long for it that we didn’t dare ask them for anything else to replace it. The atmosphere and people were ok but is not a place I’d return to.

It's really the best diner in the area. I've had breakfast, dinner, and ice cream here. It's all good every time I've been. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a casual place that's reasonably priced, open late, and has great food.

Went for breakfast yesterday, waitress was pleasant food wasn't good homefries look like scraps off the grill. Texas French toast wasn't any thicker than regular, yet cost more. Omelet was under cooked. May stop for ice cream this summer.

Overall below mediocre experience. Watery coffee, Frozen burger patties, poor service, lack of cleanliness. I had onions on the burger that were flaccid and didn't taste like onions... it tasted like it was cut days ago and left to sit and accumulate 'other' flavors that just do not belong in food. If I get sick today, I know who to blame.

The service was pleasant and the coffee was good, but the food took a long time to come out and once it made it to the table, we were very disappointed. Burgers are dry and low quality beef as indicated by the gristle and dryness of the meat. The worst offender, though, was the eggs. I had the Irish eggs Benedict and my husband had the California Benedict, but the eggs were badly overcooked (I'm talking rock solid) and the English muffins were burnt; not to mention it was barely warm when it reached the table. We may return for the ice cream, but as far as their breakfasts and lunches, it's a definite no.

Unfortunately, my breakfast here was not very good. The hash browns were cold and over cooked, like they might have been cooked several hours ago and saved for later. The croissant eggs Benedict was a bit better. The croissant was nicely toasted, the poached eggs were a bit over cooked, and the Canadian bacon was very chewy and dry. If you have the option, go with a free hotel breakfast.

ACP’s a fave neighborhood spot with top notch ice cream and glorious sundaes I just gave a lower rating cuz honestly the rest of the food is pretty disappointing. I’d still HIGHLY recommend it for desert (also their curly fries are bomb) but would choose other spots for brunch/lunch/dinner every time.

Don’t. Just don’t. When I say the worst breakfast I’ve ever had, I mean it. Multiple orders were not put in. One person in our group left without eating anything. Not just our waitresses fault, she was doing the best she could. The actual food was gross. Took 45 minutes to get breakfast food on a Sunday morning, and when the actual food came it was not good at all. A completely flattened croissant breakfast sandwich, dry and very plane French toast, and grilled home fries that tasted like old olive oil. The best and only good thing about this place is their ice cream...they should stick with that.

A fantastic place to meet up with friends to a nice easy going casual meal. The atmosphere is good for conversation. The building has an art deco feel. If you look close the exterior windows are designed to look like upside down popsicles.

Local favorite known for their ice cream and pies. Honestly everything on their menu is good so I suggest coming here multiple times so you get a chance to sample everything. Friendly staff with quick service. If there's one random complaint I would have it's that they have one oddly shaped table in the front. Regulars know which one I'm talking about. I dont know why it bothers me.

We waited 1hr and a half to be served. Waitress seated us and NEVER checked back, though she passed us about 9times back and forth. When we decided to stopped her and ask about how much longer, her response was "umm...(blank stare), I don't know. Do you want me to check!!??" We were sooooo disgusted. I mean, after 1hr of waiting...YEAH, Do you think you can check!!!???. She left and about half hr later, our meal arrived. The worst dining experience ever!!!!!

It's been a long time since I was there,and finally made it back. I left west Hartford over 30 years ago. Really nice to see this restaurant still open and going strong. Brought back a lot of great memories. Definitely worth the ride from Maine!! Thank you to all at A.C Peterson's!!!!

I needed a quick break from rush hour traffic and this was perfect! Real onion rings (a small order is available) and a Turtle Ice Cream Sundae (Butter Pecan ice cream, caramel & hot chocolate toppings, pecans and hand whipped real cream) and a cherry on top! Quality food, old fashioned service. Nice family fare.

We went for breakfast this past Sunday. When we got there, there were a few people in line, who had been waiting in line for a while. When I asked an employee why people were waiting, they stated they didn’t want to seat people until they were caught up on their orders and wanted to make sure they could make sure orders were hot when they came out. However, they did accommodate my request to be seated. Nevertheless, the food was hot & good. I had scrambled eggs with toast. My son had french toast, and an omelet with grilled hash browns. He said he enjoyed the meal. The waitress we had was very nice and provided excellent customer service. All-in-all, this was my first time there, and besides the seating issue, it’s a great place to eat.

2 eggs OM bacon rye toast grilled HF was delicious. My girl had classic eggs benny that was a classic disaster. Eggs were hard and the hollandaise broke. I'd still go back tho because the coffee mugs we're huge and food was good overall.

We went at a time when not a lot of people were there. However, the ice cream was also amazing, and all the food was super filling. The inside was also super adorable.

Normally I would suggest trying any place at least once.... NOT THIS PLACE! I sadly chose to give this spot a try for afternoon breakfast and wish I had eaten cold cereal at home instead. My main gripe is that the food was cold and tasted very odd/bland. Especially the hash browns had horrible flavor and were cold and soggy yet had very hard bits that surprise you in a bad way while you are chewing! I will gladly never return to this establishment!

Went in for breakfast . Quick service and reasonable prices. I was in the middle of eating my pancakes when I saw a black and white streak of hair I showed it to the waitress and she asked me if I wanted another set of pancakes I told her no . She said she will tell the manager I said ok. Few minutes after she came back with my change and told me thanks no apology whatsoever as I expected. I will not go back I loved it there . No manager came to my table to apologize nor the waitress!!

It features fresh ingredients, fair pricing, clean surroundings, ample lot and street free parking and even a cow sculpture out front for taking great pics of the kids. A West Hartford landmark that gets better with age.

Waitress was pleasant but when I went up to the counter to pay my bill I had to wait an extremely long time. A different waitress saw me but didn't even bother to acknowledge me. On a hot summer evening, Peterson's is the perfect place to cool off with ice cream. Lots of unique flavors to tantalize the palate. Difficult to make a choice, but you can always visit again next week. This time I tried a scoop of the almond joy ice cream with a scoop of the coffee ice cream. It was the perfect pairing indeed! Highly recommend Petersen's!

I would have liked to post how the food was on this long-standing diner, but after being seated and given menus our waitress never returned after 25 minutes to take our order, so we left. It wasn't very busy and people who came in right before us and after us had their orders taken 10-15 minutes before we decided to leave. I waved my arm at the different service people by the counter a couple of times but they somehow mustn't have seen me. We were dressed nicely coming from Easter service. Polite. No idea why no one came back to our table. We drove around the corner and saw a pizza place with my name which we found novel, went in, got immediate courteous service, some tasty pizza and lemonade. Will review separately.

The ice cream here is pretty good. The service is always great. I love just walking over, and ordering a cone at the to go counter, and taking a stroll home. Because it's pretty good ice cream, it's packed when the weather is nice, so enjoy the wait, and let your belly get excited with anticipation. The rest of the food is very average diner-ish food. I don't eat here except for ice cream.

Strictly old school. A West Hartford institution! This is the last vestige of the A.C. Peterson dairy, dairy bars/restaurants, and home milk delivery (yes, milk used to be delivered right to our homes) business that was a fixture in the Hartford area forever. It may be the final piece, but it's not going away. This place is a hub activity all the time with a full menu of breakfast, soups and sandwiches, platters and, of course, ice cream. Try the Grape Nuts ice cream, my favorite. Frequented by little kids, seniors, families and everyone in between. The food and ice cream earn four stars, the vibe brings it to five stars. Plenty of parking. You really can't go wrong.
