Best margarita I've had in my life. If you're expecting fantastic food, go across the street. Not to say the food is bad, it's just kinda like background noise. The venue itself is great, the outdoor patio is fantastic and the service is well executed. I have hosted several company happy hours at this location and they've always been wonderfully accommodating for my large parties.

First, I love the Rio always. I have never eaten anything that I didn’t like. Personal favorite is the steak fajitas. Husband likes chili rellenos. Last night was extra special. We headed to Rio before a concert. Sat outside to avoid a wait (yes, it would have been worth he wait but we were starving). Kati was our server and she made the whole experience awesome. Attentive. Just the right amount of attention to make sure our experience was amazing but hands off enough so we could enjoy date night. Funny. Made us laugh every time she came over. Seriously. Seek her out. Best service we’ve had in a very looooong time. As a side note: never try the coconut flan. It is life changing and you will be ruined from every other flan experience. Save yourself the potential obsession.

My experience and my friends was horrible. The staff was great - the burritos and tacos were tasteless and bland. Not sure if it was just a bad day but I was not impressed. Also felt it for the next 2 days in the bathroom. Terrible experience.

As we were scooting around downtown on the Lime scooters we passed this place and had to turn around for some food! Cool atmosphere and I liked the nachos a lot, they fill a whole cookie sheet! We just ordered tacos for delivery...worst meal I've ever had. 2 undercooked fish slapped on a tortilla and 2 shriveled shrimp on the other. We learned our lesson to never eat here again.

From the front of the house to the back of the house all the managers and staff were cohesive and able to handle large volume for prolonged periods of time with ease grace and on time exmplorary service. The bar was packed and overflowing (Rockies game in an hour). It was impossible to get the attention of a bartender, b/c the bar was 3 people deep at the time (which probably indicates that this is a great place to come for drinks and eats, on a typical day or evening). We got a high top table in the bar after a party left, about 35 minutes in to our 45 minute wait (to which we had agreed) The wait staff was literally running to attend to tables. Rio definitely needed an army of people just to bus tables clean. Poor staffing on a game night. Why did I give this place 5 stars? Because after our wait person got a little caught up, he was very attentive, the chips and salsa were good, my margarita was refreshing, and the steak fajitas were delicious. Shout out to the overwhelmed wait staff that night. Let me add that this venue would not have this many patrons accepting some inconveniences if overall they were not actually a 5-star establishment. Give them a try!

Been coming to the Rio for quite sometime, but it seems to have started to take a turn downhill in the recent months. The service has began to slip and the quality of the food is not what it used to be. The only worthwhile thing anymore seems to be the margaritas. Unfortunate.

Stopping in to visit Rio Grande was a last-minute decision just hours before I needed to board an Amtrak for the next leg of my vacation... and I'm so happy that I took the time to enjoy a drink and quesadillas outside on their patio! The restaurant itself is a huge, sprawling location, with at least two bars, plenty of indoor seating, and an incredible patio area with plenty of shade. I visited during happy hour (obviously!) and was quick to order one of their signature Rio margaritas. Delicious! The serving size, even during happy hour, was enormous! I also ordered grilled steak quesadillas, which were brought out to me within 10-15 minutes. I was impressed with how much cheese they packed into each delicious bite. The patio began to fill up soon after I arrived, but there was still plenty of space available. At this point, I was starting to wonder if I had made the right decision in sitting out on the patio on a bright and sunny Saturday afternoon, but I was quickly reassured that it was a good idea when a gentle mist began to cool the entire patio down! What a nice touch, and it encouraged me to order a second margarita and stay outside! If I am in Denver again in the LoDo area and need a way to pass the time or have great conversation with friends, this will definitely be the place that I go!

We came in on New Year's Eve for the first time. We were quickly sat in the bar area. We were served chips and salsa promptly. Overall, we had a great time. They weren't too busy, our party grew and they easily accommodated us. The service lacked at times, but it was a holiday I get it. It was only notable since they weren't at capacity. Had a great time and will be back!

We were seated in the bar area and waited 25 minutes for someone to come to our table after asking a passing waiter if he could help us. I loved the salsa! Great flavor and just the right amount of heat. The tacos were good. The carnitas one was the best, then steak, and last the fish taco. No one asked us for refills on drinks and we were not checked on once after our food was brought. We had 3 different people help us. Waited another 20 minutes to get our check after asking another passing waiter. Still no one, so I went to the bar and got our check and then also paid at the bar. 2 stars for the good food, -3 for service.

I had horrible service the 1st time I went. After a year I decided to try it again mainly because of the homemade flour tortillas. After sitting there for about 10 minutes, my server came and hurriedly asked if I was ready. She took my order and started off without asking what I wanted to drink. I order some flour tortillas with Chile con queso for my appetizer and asked that it come out before my entrée. Eventually someone else brought both appetizers and entree and about 10 minutes later came back to check on me. When I asked her to remove my appetizers she shrugged her shoulders and removed it. Never never going back. D'Corazon across the street is 100 %better in every way.

The food was spectacular! I ordered chicken quesadilla, not my normal Mexican dine in go to, but was amazed with the flavor and large portion size served. My mom decided to on the cheese enchiladas, also a hit, with the BEST black beans and rice.

We arrived during Happy Hour on a Tuesday. We were seated immediately in the patio area and next to a fountain per our request by an awesome hostess. We ordered the house margarita on the rocks and our waitress brought them out quickly and it was absolutely delicious. The chips and salsa were a great appetizer and we were pleasantly surprised that the salsa had a good amount of heat. We also ordered Happy Hour tacos (chicken, shrimp, and carnitas) which were small but tasty. We were most impressed with the service from our waitress and the other wait staff. They were attentive and friendly. The one thing I would suggest is that the restaurant consider offering pitchers of margaritas. We likely would have ordered one.

We went to Rio Grande last night and we have nothing bad to say about the atmosphere. We just had really bad customer service at the outdoor bar. We were there at 9:20 on July 3rd and only ordered two drinks. The male bartender that was serving us was constantly checking his watch in front of us and really didnt make us feel welcome at all. Never greeted us and made us feel like we weren't welcome to order a drink, just had a bad attitude in general. Another server walked by us and offered chips and salsa very sweetly, so it was just the one bartender that was an issue.

Our whole office ordered from here and we couldn't be more disappointed. 8 Chips in all of our $14 nacho orders. They skimped on all of the proteins and the food wasn't anything special. I can't stand trendy places that charge high amounts for mediocre small portions. We will not be ordering here again!

Went solo on a Monday at 6:30pm with beautiful 80 degree weather and sat outside. I was seated quickly at a 4 person table as the outside bar wasn't open yet. They have a relaxing fountain, although some modest music drowns it out a bit, and it's next to the street but the traffic is not loud or bothersome. I met a cook that works there and asked him what he recommends and he said anything with steak. Ended up getting the steak fajitas with double rice, no beans, which was well portioned and had great sized veggies. Four flour tortillas came with it and were warm and soft. It was $22.63 with tax and I considered it well worth it! The on-the-house salsa also had great spice to it and they offered to get me more, which not all places do, especially for one person. Highly recommend this for a few friends getting together for a low key dinner or drinks.

I guess a party of 5 cannot sit anywhere but the bar top. As a server, the bartender should have taken us out of her section to accommodate the guest. We sat at the bar as we were told, and then waited 5 minutes for her to take our drink order. There were 3 other parties in the bar. We ended up leaving.

We had a private event here in the upstairs room. It was pretty easy to set up. However, for a group of about 35 people, they only had 1 server so it took a really long time to get drinks. The buffet ran out of food and we had to ask for more. There were not enough place settings or plates for our group either. Really, the Rio should have assigned more than 1 person to this group because even though our server was running around, she just couldn't keep up. That being said, we picked the Rio for our private event because we love the margaritas and come here often. I will definitely be back, just not for a private event.

I REALLY wanted to dine here..The reviews seem great and I don't always come to downtown Denver. Me and a friend came here Saturday night around 10:30 and we were warned that it was a limited menu & that it was only one server. So we decided to see if we could settle on the "limited menu" turns out limited only meant tacos. We left and went to cheesecake factory, the waiter was cool with our decision even after brining us chips and salsa. He said eat all the chips and drinks lol then leave. So we did that because my friend was very hungry. I do plan to come back though!!

The guy at the front desk was very short with us. No personality. The service wasn't great. Half of my party didn't get their food, and the half that did, regretted it. The food was greasy and gross as if the chefs had thrown it together haphazardly. We asked for water and were given the smallest glasses of lukewarm water. We asked for our check and waited about 15 minutes before asking again for it. They charged us for food we didnt even ask for, they just threw it on our table. Our first waiter could very clearly care less and disappeared into the back less than 10 mintues into taking care of us. The lady who replaced him barely spoke to us. Not at all impressed or happy.

Good location and nice inside. Staff very friendly... the bad news is they changed the menu and VERY overpriced. Food good but nothing special. Went in for lunch and Enchalada plate with water to drink and bill is $15.34 before tip. Good but not worth the price.

My husband and I were seated quickly but left after waiting over 20 minutes because a server never even came by to ask what we would like to drink. The menu was not enticing at all and for a Mexican restaurant they did not even have some of the standard dishes you would expect. We ended up eating at a different restaurant close by and were much happier with the service and food there.

A very rude lady answered the line and the background was loud she yelled “WHAT” after I told her I wanted to order then I repeated myself and she hangs up on me. Very unprofessional and now I won’t be eating there but it sucks because not to many restaurants have chicken in their chille instead of just pork ! Definitely wish the employee was in a better mood and had better communication skills !

Mediocre Mexican-American food, and I'm not sure they're regularly fully staffed as wait time issues tend to crop up a lot every visit.

I was disappointed by both the service and the food here. We came for a business lunch at 11:30 before they got busy. After the food was delivered we didn't see our waiter again until she brought the check; Most of the table was waiting for refills on drinks that never came. I ordered the soft tacos with carnitas that were disappointing in both the portion size and the flavor. I wish I had taken a picture but the tacos were barely a quarter full with filling, the pork was dry and relatively unseasoned (in a "Tex-mex" restaurant I find that insulting) and the vegetables that came with it looked old.

Service was good. Just one pet peeve. When we received our tacos, the limes look a day or two old and were starting to brown. Just feel like for one of your signature dishes that you would have fresh cut limes for your food daily. However, the limes on the margaritas looked fresh cut. I will return, as the food is always good!

Great patio for drinks after work with friends/co-workers. They have misters on their patio to keep you cool on hot days. The service was a little underwhelming, but everything else was good, so I would go back.

The chicken enchaladas with salsa Verde was delicious and the margarita was relaxing. Icing on the cake was great conversation with Eric, a Rio bartender off work hanging out, and a regular Mike. Good food and super cool people.

There are so many places for Mexican food nowadays, one of the best in town in actually right across the street — De Corazón. But make a pass on Rio Grande — service is subpar, chip bowls are small, drinks are flat and the food is honestly not that great.
