This Restaurant belongs to the category of Traditional American restaurant.
The place is beautiful. The servers are very helpful. We had breakfast. We got cold coffee The sausage gravy just tasted awful...how do you ruin sausage Gravy? They used poor quality ingredients for the biscuits, the cream of tartar really …
We went in for the ribs. 5 minutes after ordering soup, drinks and ribs we were told that they ran out of ribs at lunch. What? Are you kidding me. Should've left. The substitutes were fine, but I came for ribs
Service was very good. Food was just ok.
The server was fantastic and it was her second day of serving. The rest was downhill. Starting with the $21 margarita which was only $12 a few weeks earlier. The food quality was good but the portions were tremendously small. Our meal was $133 for two dinners and 2 margaritas, 1 house Cabernet and a salad. Typically this is about $90 in Durango. So we called the manager over “Alex” and he got defensive and said we already paid the bill so he didn’t need address us any further. He said it was the servers duty to tell us that the drinks were a certain price. I have never had a server tell me this. We have been coming to Mahogany Grill for 15 yrs. I have had conferences, speakers and recruiting dinners here. I will not return.
Got to meet the Chef (Chef Safari), super nice and he is from Kenya and like world renown or something I heard... Well, his food definitely tastes like it!! WOW!
Me and my wife stopped by while visiting Durango, and let me tell you it was the best steak I have ever had! Not to mention the server was great! Thank you Anna for making this night one to remember! Ive never had a server make us feel so …
The mahogany grille as a part of the Strater hotel has a great decor loaded with much carved wood and history. We arrived early on a Tuesday so it was very quiet. The service was great as was the food. Peppercorn tenderloin was loaded with black pepper and the chutney sauce complimented it well.
Food is great as usual, but sadly waiting several minutes for a table ( it wasn't that busy!) isn't a good start for my most important meal of the day then, again waiting on waiters to actually wait on us ! Argg!! It's almost like having a army of zombies serve you???
The staff is wonderful. Delicious food!
We were there a couple of weekends ago and the breakfast was so bad we didn't go back the rest of our trip even though we were staying in the Hotel. We both ordered eggs benedict her's was under cooked runny and mine were hard boiled. The waitress didn't bring my wife the beverage she ordered so we shared mine. No refills on coffee or water. Of course they didn't forget to add her beverage to the ticket. Also the breakfast was served room temperature but we ate it anyway. To top it off when we got our check it wasn't ours. For the price they charge you would expect great service and hot (cooked properly) food! We ate breakfast just down the street and it was way cheaper and the service was impeccable.
The food quality has really gone downhill. Had bland crab cakes and a special with over cooked vegetables and undercooked rice. I used to be a regular here. Sadly we won't be back any time soon.
Better prices than some of the restaurants in the area. Food was edible, but nothing spectacular, except for the pecan bread pudding french toast, which was delicious.
Octopus and chateaux briand...amazing!
The food was amazing! Visiting from out of state and decided to try ya'll out for breakfast and the food was really good! Will definitely be coming back!
Had the mixed berry salad with all fresh vegetables from the local farmers market. Amazing 5 oz fillet to finish it off. And of course the bannanas foster.
Thanksgiving 2017 Meh!! Not good at all. They were out of carved turkey so they picked up some scraps from platter kid you not. The food was not good enough at all. I was bummed old cold food tough and no turkey! I told our waiter and he turned and walked. For $39 hmmmm should have been $19 for that quality. Not chef inspired. No appology so bummed
Confusing building acess and sky high prices. Everything was about 30 bucks a plate...that just aint right.
Very small portions for price (4.5 oz) filet mignon ($26) and was probably less then that in size. Trout dish was mostly potatoes. Bread extra. Food was good though.
Fantastic steaks!
Absolutely wonderful! I had a breakfast croissant and Chuck had Eggs Benedict. Both were excellent. Best priced breakfast for such an excellent breakfast and wonderful service. We are glad we discovered the Mahogany Grill and are regulars!!!
Always amazing! Great food, staff, and environment. We celebrate every valentines day here.
Midweek is the time to visit. The weekends are packed and service gets overwhelmed. Food is on point.
Great place for brunch.
Great meal!
I love ghe chefs playbon my two favorite foods.... chile rejleno and a ribeye! Perfection!
My boyfriend and I are on vacation and stopped in the mahogany grill and we will always remember it as a great part of this trip excellent service from everyone and the food was delicious. Excellent experience
The cornesh hen was overcooked and dry.
This place is nice looking and our server Taylor was exceptional. The problem was the food. My husbands shrimp was dry and tough. I ordered a salad, the croutons were stale, and the tomatoes sour. Our sons steak was mediocre. For the price, this was definitely not acceptable.
Everything was great, atmosphere, food, and company! Celebrated our 40th anniversary and we believe it was the perfect place to spend it. Did arrive late but felt no rush to get us out! We had the Pepper Steak and the cut of meat was delish. Please try it out if you want a special place to feel pampered and step back a bit in time. I rate it a 5 and I'm not always generous with my ratings.
Great atmosphere. Service was good. Had the rainbow trout and it was delicious!
Wonderful dining experience. Our server was top notch. Prime rib and Fillet were cooked perfectly. And you absolutely MUST try the ADULT CANDY appetizers. They'll make you do a happy dance.
Bloody Mary was absolutely fabulous, had a second one after a superb huevos rancheros. Camille our server was very attentive, and fun to talk with. Definitely the best breakfast we've had in a long time! Can't wait to go there for dinner! Beautiful historic atmosphere
The wait staff is excellent as is the cuisine. The atmosphere is great and the interior decoration is beautiful as well.
Hotel restaurant. Anyone who raves about the flavor profile must have had some cannabis before their meal. "Adult candy" appetizer - dates stuffed with gorgonzola wrapped with bacon drizzled with honey sounds great but they skimped on the gorgonzola so it was not balanced just sweet. Grilled Caesar salad, edible but someone mixed horseradish into the dressing and over salted it. Charcuterie board was a joke. Husband ordered the bison hangar steak, which was overcooked. When he told the server this, she took it away, never offered him anything else and we never saw a manager. Needless to say we both left hungry. BTW we went for the prime rib which they had sold out of by 7☹️
In comparison to the warm, comfortable feeling felt when first entering the restaurant, the service, food, and atmosphere was disappointing. Before our appetizers arrived to the table, my party I were and frustrated by the inability to make the dishes we wanted. The oyster rockefeller was a nice rendition, and we all enjoyed the shrimp cocktail, although we were again facing the obstacle of choosing another course due to inability to make certain items. The food on the other hand was reasonable, my steak was cooked very well, and the seasoning was simple yet flavorful. All in all, the food was satisfying, but the service could've been better.
They got my order wrong. When it came out the second time, there were components of the meal missing. Veggies were greasy. They ran out of baked potatoes!!! Who runs out of baked potatoes?!?
Wonderful breakfast! Great service and not to pricy. Mahogany grille is one of my favorite places for dinner as well. Can never go wrong. Great location in beautiful Historic downtown Durango!
Would have loved to try this place... Was told that they were closing in 15 minutes (closer to 20) and were told that our service would be rushed... Who says that!?! Exact words after listing some other restaurants he said "or we can seat you but your service and food will be rushed". Thanks but no thanks we prefer classy service to someone who sounds like our business is unwanted. Did I mention that there were people who still were not served in the facility. Me and my fiance we're looking forward to this joint as they were recommended...
Hit or miss on good food. I used to love this place though.
Nice, traditional western saloon feeling. Good food and service
The experience was wonderful. The food was not only beautiful in appearance but the taste excited my taste buds. Our waiter was knowledge about the history of the restaurant.
Steak Oscar was AWESOME! Bread served with 3 fabulous spreads, FABULOUS! Wine list, EXCEPTIONAL! That said, the dinner would not have been as enjoyable if not for our server, KAITLIN! We appreciate you soooo much!
We have been here for breakfast/brunch several times over the last year. The service is consistently bad. The food is just OK. Maybe lunch or dinner is better. All I have experienced recently is brunch. We have decided to finally give up & stop giving them more chances. I guess the restaurant counts on getting business from out-of-towners staying at the hotel because it seems like they aren’t earning repeat business from locals.
Had breakfast here since we stayed at the Strater and was a bit disappointed. The food wasn't necessarily bad, but everything was very heavy, greasy, and super salty. Nothing out of the ordinary on the menu either, and price was pretty high. Really expected more from here.
A beautiful, classic, vintage, turn of the century (the other century) restaurant attached to the same level of gorgeous hotel. With modern and fanciful cuisine worthy of the highest praise. Brunch is excellent. Dinner excels. If you find yourself here, you will know the secret of this lovely small town.
Great Place to have a relaxing Meal.... Food is wonderful and service is good
We just drove in from Winter Park area before we head back to Texas and everything we had was excellent and the service was even better! Kyle took great care of us and was able to answer a lot of our questions on the menu as well. PS- the Peppered Steak Herbert was really good and we felt reasonably priced for everything as well.
Service was very good just a little bit slow. I think it was due to being the first night on a brand new menu though. Other than that, the atmosphere was nice and we were very satisfied with all of our food. The filet was fantastic.
Very good
Woodwork beautiful, you feel like you're in the Victorian West, with great service and good food. We're glad we made this our dinner stop for Durango while out traveling.
Extremely good food and great decorations...
Good food in a very nice atmosphere...
YUMMY!
Homemade chorizo is excellent. Goodnfood overall and great service.
The food, service, and atmosphere were fantastic! The bread basket to start was delicious. Their dinner was superb and their specials make the meal much more affordable. For dessert, the double chocolate mousse is a must.
Disgusting. The cole slaw was inedible and the risotto tasted like undercooked uncle bens rice. We paid $90 for 3 of us. It was only memorable because of how bad it was. Please don’t go here. You’re wasting your money and you’ll walk out feeling thoroughly disappointed. The mashed potatoes were on the same level as my old high schools cafeteria, no lie. I wouldn’t be typing this much If I weren’t so passionately disgusted by this restaurant. The steak was ok but I’ve had better at Texas Rhodehouse.
Nice
Not worth it
Service impecable, nourriture très correcte, cadre très agréable et tranquille. Idéal pour une soirée romantique !
Very good atmosphere and food, service was good as well.
Very good breakfast and very reasonable.
Amazig service! We had a package booked through the hotel and the Mahogany Grill was exceptionql! Ally provided great service after hours!
Best place I've ever been to. Staff incredible...even manager came by to chat. Food out of this world from 1st bite to last. Adult candy appetite and Herbert steak..oh, woweeeeeee!!!
Terrible prime steak. Tough as leather. Nice ambiance and nice server. Disappointing meal. Manager did not charge for the bad steak. He was nice.
This place was amazing!!! Totally worth it!! Traveling, the reviews are two sided on Google but it is far better than the Ore place. Our waitress was on top of serving us and getting our food in. Go here for a good steak dinner. Eat steak!
We stayed at the Strater Hotel so we decided to have breakfast here. Staff was not interested in us. Served the cappuccinos as if they were jugs of beer - including the careless overspill when put on the table. Asked for some napkins to mop it up as the waitress didn't think of it herself. Received a saucer to place under the mug and on the spilled cappuccino.... The standard breakfast of eggs, hash browns and eggs was absolutely tasteless. Do not understand how you can get that wrong. When we were finished, the waitress presented us with the bill without even asking if we had another wish. We are not high maintanance (apart from our wish for extra napkins and standard food) and felt carelessly treated. Sure, we are tourists - but the touristy stuff seems to be one of the main incomes for this town so: please don't make us feel so extremely touristy and unwelcome. And get the waitress a tray, please.
But for grade inflation, I should give this a five star. The food was excellent; the atmosphere was nice.
Wonderful cuisine, embracing the geographical taste can be found here. The green chili chorizo chicken was amazing. Good wine/ beer list too!
Excellent food & service. Beautiful building too!
The chopped salad wasn't chopped and was loaded with meat. Worst of all even the waitress couldn't identify the mystery meat. Service was average and ambience was so so. All in all a very meh experience.
Great experience. Terrific service, great food, and reasonable prices ($20 or $30 per plate, average).
Awesome food better service
This is a great place you right away get that home feeling here. You don't have to be quiet you feel at home. And everything is great you won't be displeased. Highly recommend
Ok. Pricey
Great food and better service. The bar staff in the office was awesome.
This is my favorite upscale restaurant in town. The food is always prefect. It's never too busy either.
Food was good server was to busy
Moderate food, and a fair wait time.
Enjoyed a nice birthday celebration dinner (10/9) with family, the food was good but took quite a long time to be served, especially for such a slow night. However, after eating the (leftover) potato I had a serious allergic reaction- as I have with consumption of MSG or Sulfites. (Also had left over pasta with no problem, both within 24 hours) This can be life-threatening to many people! Please be aware of this, and disclose these allergens on the menu somewhere! Even cross-contamination can be critical. The overall service was good. Thanks!
Went for Christmas dinner. Expected more for the price, but the food was good.
Had no idea this was more than a monument. Great visitor center
Every time a I have eaten here, the food is amazing and the service is wonderful
Flaming bannana, pepper steak, great service.
Very good food and service, but a little pricey. Pretty good breakfast.
In Durango, CO, we enjoyed a fabulous dinner at MAHOGANY GRILL. For starters, I was adventurous and chose the Octopus & Chorizo Caponata, and my wife chose the Pork Belly & Egg Wellington. Both appetizers were super tasty and delicious! My octopus was surprisingly enjoyable – almost like lobster. Glad I tried it. For entrees, my wife ordered the Pepper Steak Herbert, a peppered beef tenderloin with chutney, potatoes & vegetables – it was perfectly cooked with balanced spices and flavors. I ordered the Pan-Fried Colorado Trout, and it too was perfectly cooked and delicious; it came with bacon, hash, sprouts and apple sauce, which really contributed amazing flavors. We did ask for some Paleo-oriented substitutions and the staff was wonderfully accommodating. Our server India R. was super-efficient and constantly checking on us – made us feel very special! The restaurant’s atmosphere is beautiful and romantic – definitely a place to go for special intimate occasions. Prices were very reasonable for such high quality of food. Absolutely highly recommended – not only for dinners, but they serve breakfasts as well.
This is a favorite place for date night. The food options are consistent and always well prepared. Service is usually spot on and have an amazing environment.
Great food and atmosphere
We loved this restaurant!!!The steak is delicious here!!!!!!
Good place for dinner while in Durango.
Great food at a reasonable price
Sad. The quality of food has really declined lately. :(
Had very good brisket and also liked that they came out and cooked in front of you.
Service was okay, but the food wasn't very good. Found a piece of plastic in my food and all they would do is give me a 10% discount on next visit. Been here twice, first and last.
Fantastic, attentive service, and great food.
The food was amazing! The ambiance was fun! And Santa Claus performing on Christmas Eve was the icing on the cake.
Good use of local ingredients. Entrees tend to be a little on the heavy side
Great place, great food. A little more upscale. Great service.
Nice classic Western Victorian cuisine, attentive staff, well decorated, great acoustics.
Love it they had great wide variety of different foods. Good quality and fresh food. Great place to go with family or friends.
Complete dining experience. Delicious entrees exceptional drink menu, and a wonderful wait staff who are super friendly and eager to serve. I suggest trying the bananas foster for dessert.
We had a really delicious dinner here in this gorgeous historic hotel. The food was outstanding and the service was very attentive. The Trout Almondine was one of the best prepared versions and I order that often. The pasta with salmon was delicious too. I would definitely recommend for dinner.
Wonderful atmosphere, wait staff and food. We both ordered steaks. Cooked to perfection. Waitress was Taylor. I have never seen a more pleasant, smiling and professional waitress ever. Total experience was a 10.
Christmas Eve 3 course dinner is not worth $50 per. The service was super slow(an hour & 1/2) for shrimp, entree, & dessert. My husband's country ham was dry, dark and tough...his 2 sides were not good either. Worst meat he's ever had. I couldn't even chew it or tell it was ham! The prime rib was better and desserts were good. We won't return. So disappointed since it was a special occasion.
The traditional atmosphere and decor of Mahogany Grill at the Strater Hotel are special, and some of the staff make very good impressions. On Christmas Day, with 1pm reservations, we had a decidedly adverse experience with the manager, acting as the maitre d'. Fortunately, two waitresses and the expert kitchen staff performed superbly, enabling my Lady and me to put the "host" out of mind. The four-course meal was extremely well prepared, with a good array of options. My Lady particularly enjoyed the roasted game hen. The cost was extravagant, but given the paucity of fine dining options in Durango on Christmas, we have no regrets -- just won't ever go that way again. An instance when I wish I could give 3 1/2 stars.
We ordered dinner and a theatre and the dinner took 40 mim to get here so we were late to the theatre i called the police but they wouldnt come but my table had some great conversation
Nice ambience. Decent prices. The ribeye could be a better cut. Great service
Decided to try this restaurant for breakfast. We were not impressed. Potatoes were cold, a medium requested Bene was not medium, it was runny, crispy bacon was dried out & awful. Would of complained about everything but the waitress never came back to check on us! For the price, not worth it. On the other hand though, we like the Diamond Belle Saloon for lunch & Ben the bartender, it’s amazing that they use the same kitchen! Diamond Belle, 5 stars, Mahogany 2 at best.
Great food, takes reservations, were very accommodating of kids.
Had the Asian Glazed Salmon and it was incredible! The filet mignon practically melted in your mouth it was so tender. Of course the Bananas Foster was my absolute favorite mostly because they come to your table and make it there for you, but also because its delish! The staff was awesome, great service! Highly recommend!
Ok
Wonderfully restored! Excellent food and service!
My mom treated us to the Mahogany Grille. The food was wonderful and our waiter was great. We all ordered something different so.we could all sample a little bit everything. The rib eye and crab stuffed salmon (chef's special for the evening) was great. I would definitely recommend the Mahogany Grille.
Huevos Rancheros had more black beans then it should have. It made a funky consistency
Don’t believe it. Almost an hour wait for food that was frankly pedestrian. This is a restaurant trading on its lovely Victorian interior but serving very average versions of standard items that should be much better for the price. Too many seats for not enough kitchen capacity. Wait staff were very apologetic but it wasn’t in their power to fix things. Would not return.
Elk tenderloin and corn flakes crusted scallops fantastic Nicole was fabulous great great way beyond expectations thanks
Great food and the most amazing berry cobbler I have ever eaten.
Love love love the eggs Benedict with the salmon. Delicious.
We always enjoy eating here, and have never had a bad experience. Food is great, and it is a romantic and historical spot.
Delicious prime rib last night...Ate breakfast there this morning , delicious too.
Amazing food, service and atmosphere.
This seasons menu was better than it has been in a while. There was no bread with dinner and they took away my favorite dessert, vanilla creme brulee, but the elk tenderloin special was Devine.
I have eaten here twice and both times was left disgusted and disappointed. My food was soggy and undercooked the first time for something as simple as the mahogany breakfast, I expected it to at least be cooked properly. The next day, I went in again and ordered the same thing. This time, I asked for it to be cooked well. They sent out everything burnt. The sausage was black and completely inedible and the hash browns were almost black on one side and had almost raw shredded potatoes underneath. Do not go here for breakfast. The food is not good or cooked properly and the management is even worse.
Looked so forward to Valentines dinner with my husband. Waited and waited for appetizer (crab cakes that were still frozen in the middle) salad (half hour after finishing our appetizer)finally our dinner arrived almost two hours after we got there. Spoke to the manager who offered to buy us dinner($120 bill for that service) Then we were chastised by the server who said we should have told her we were waiting that long. Really...didn't she know??? Then she offered us a coupon for a free bottle. of wine.... we don't drink and she probably should have known that because she had just spent 2 hours refilling our waters and Diet Coke. Never again!!!!
Great approachable wine list and one of the best t bones I've ever had. Orin Swift wines with little mark up from wine store rates.
Great brunch
Fine dining. Great date place
We enjoy the food, it's presentation, & the atmosphere. The servers are very friendly & a willing to accommodate your special food requests. We have been spoiled with our server, Chrissy.
Buy one get one half off mimosas in a fancy wild west dining setting.
We (two couples) enjoyed a relaxing dinner last night (Wednesday) around 5:45pm. Recommend reservations if you dine any later than that. Our server Will was very gracious and informative. We ordered two 10 oz prime ribs, two petite filet mignon entrees and a specialty cocktail that were perfectly prepared. I was very pleased that Will accommodated my low-sodium and non-dairy requests. It is a beautiful restaurant that is a short, pleasant, about a mile walk on a cement footpath from the hotels located across the river.
Worse dining experience ever. Maybe bad luck with server, but horrible. Half an appetizer. Practically had to beg for a glass of water. Main courses were completely wrong. First time I have felt compelled to refuse to pay for a meal. Credit to the manager (owner) for being apologetic and comping what was actually served "right".....
Great service and great food
Good breakfast, good number of options, value for money. Service was good too.
Expensive, service was slow, 2 of us had awesome elk steaks, the porterhouse witb crab topping was tough but that's probably not the restaurant's fault, just being thorough = $170 for 3 men with 1 drink each FYI we were full ***** in a 5 star historic hotel
Two stars for the great atmosphere and service. I wouldn't bother spending my money here ever again. Steak was tasteless and had burnt parts, sauce that was supposed to be on it was thankfully ordered on the side. Who puts a sweet gooey sauce on a filet mignon? Unless you knew it tasted like nothing. mashed potatoes crumbled. Yes, crumbled. They were that dry. We ordered gravy to fix it and the gravy was fantastic. Otherwise it was very very bland food. The pasta dish we ordered was good though.
The photo is actually the service is good the interior decorations are beautiful
Awesome!!
