REVIEWS OF Juniper Valley Ranch IN Colorado

John Paredes

Was looking forward to this place for years. Sorry the chicken was burnt and dry and prices were very high. Playing $6 for a piece of pie cant be justified. Soup was lousy. Was disappointed. Service was great yet the food was not what I expected. Mason Jar and crackerbarrel has better chicken

Becky Page

The food is good. They're famous for their fried chicken. It is very good & it is endless. All of the sides are great. The cream gravy is every bit as good as mine -- and that's saying A LOT! The one that surprised me was the okra casserole. It was fantastic! The menu is the same as it has been since opening in the middle of the 20th century. There's a good reason for that. It works! The little cabin style building is quaint and comfy. The service is outstanding. They have everyone in the family working there & they have been well groomed to carry on the legacy of Juniper Valley Ranch. GO! Enjoy the drive. It isn't far. YOU WILL BE BACK! GUARANTEED.

Annette Branch

Homestyle cooking that is just like what you remember growing up. Tasted just like my mom's fried chicken. I have never liked okra, but the okra casserole was amazing

Barbara Machen

They do a great job with large groups and the fried chicken is really outstanding!

Patrick Hollenbeck

So much food! Go on Thurs or Sunday for the Nashville chicken, excellent!

Jim Thomas

As always, delightful.

Neat place cool views

Russ McGuire

Good family style chicken dinners served in a quaint atmosphere. Come hungry, leave pleasantly stuffed.

Mark McColloch

The entire staff was super friendly. The atmosphere will take you back in time, and remind you of dinner at Grandma's house. The Nashville hot chicken was amazing...and I was even offered extra after I finished my plate

Mike Woolard

Atmosphere excellent food fantastic staff very attentive our party a great success everyone loved the place

Alice Winters

This is the best place to go to get home cooked food. Pleasant atmosphere and great little store next to it all old items.

Eric Hutchinson

They don't advertise that you need to make reservations, or that you have to pay with cash or check. For those with cards, you are left with an embarrassing situation unless you have $140 cash for dinner for four. Expensive for a below-average chicken dinner. Appetizers were either a small, cherry kool-aid or a tiny cup of curry-flavored dish water. Chicken is extremely average. Rolls and gravy are good. Okra casserole is an odd and unpleasant blend of okra, tomatoes, and other watery ingredients. Definitely will not go there again. Staff were friendly.

Amy Pesek

Could hardly wait for them to open for the season. Best food and service, unique dining experience. Take an appetite! You will never be disappointed!

Barbara Gilliland

Best family dining. Loved the place

Kristin Steward

Amazing food and atmosphere! Such a cool experience.

Sean Humphrey

Hidden gem, homestyle cooking from fried chicken, they now have spiced chicken which is good, mashed potatoes, okra, and biscuits with really good apple butter

Andy

First time here and I will definitely be back. Wonderful atmosphere, fast and friendly service, and the best fried chicken I've ever had. All of the sides are great too and really taste like they came from grandma's kitchen. My mom had the coconut cream pie for dessert and loved every bite. Make sure you bring cash and an empty stomach.

Maureen Sheridan

Love this place, I have never had a bad meal here. I recommend this restaurant to everyone!

Fabienne McMillan

As good as it was twenty years ago. A place full of charm. So glad I got to come back and visit with some old friends.

Scott Fahrenholtz

Home cooked food that is fresh and awesome soooo tasty

Miriana Taylor

Reiterate what someone posted. Best Kept secret in COS! We stopped by on our way back from a weekend rafting trip. Tim, our waiter was excellent. The food DELICIOUS! Family style serving the best! Thank you Juniper Valley Ranch restaurant!

Scott Deeds

Great place to stop and enjoy a family style feast. I was out for a Sunday afternoon motorcycle ride and was able to get a table for two. Reservations are highly recommended to ensure you have a table. The restaurant is small, yet based upon their history, it was started as they were building hwy 115 and they have stayed true to their dreams and goals. Making sure they served you the best fried chicken, biscuits, mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw, all finished off with a great tasting bread pudding or ice cream sundae. Besides the food being delicious, the atmosphere is wonderful and family members serving you, explaining the history makes this being a great quaint spot. If you are looking for an amazing place to take your sweetheart, the visiting family or just treat yourself to a great meal this is this place to go. BTW the best fried chicken you can get in Colorado.

Anthony Downs

Excellent chicken. I had the Nashville hot tonight...loved it!

Cyndi Wheatley

Very good home cooking!

Nathan Alderson

This place wouldn't even sit me the host ask me what she could help me with I told her looking for a small bite to eat and a beverage. She then went and got the manager so he could ask me what I needed.... wtf does it take to get seated and enjoy a glass of water and some food. Totally rubbed me the wrong way will never eat or recommend this place. In fact I recommend you stay away from this place.

Martin Rauer

Great food and service in a family style restaurant. Be careful of 20% mandatory gratuities

Lori Plank

Love the chicken and the atmosphere.

Jewell Hardesty

Good food served family style and good service but pricey for what you get. Good for a special occasion.

susie McClurg

Great food and atmosphere

Joanne Peterson

Quaint but expansive ranch. Lovely original buildings. FOOD was OH MY GOSH SUPERB!!

Mary Reeves

Good comfort food. Well prepared just like grandmas house. The fried chicken i had was delicious. The little biscuits were so tasty. The riced potatoes were a little bland by themselves but just add some gravy salt and pepper you're good to go. Not a fan of okra, but i did taste it and it was very tart. My daughter had the chicken fried steak which she said was really good. We had the cherry cider which was very nice. I had the bread pudding for desert which was really nice.

Cindy Sykes

Don't miss this gem!! It's a delicious icon of the West!

Robert Darrow

Everything tastes so good!

William Kuhns

Excellent. Very enjoyable.

Robin Post

We loved the food and the experience and hope to make it a tradition.

Christian Westervelt

The food was amazing, the atmosphere was amazing. Highly recommend to anyone who wants amazing home cooked food!

John Currier

Excellent family-style meals. Options are typically chicken or ham plus wonderful sides in a quaint little place.

Melissa Harte

Food & service were great! First time though, that we have been asked to leave a restaurant because someone else was coming in.

Benjamin Howland

I have been wanting to come here for several years and have been building up my expectations for just as long so I finally took my family. I can't say enough about the atmosphere. I seriously felt like I was in a country home, at a rancher's dinner table getting treated to a home cooked meal. Family style is such a cool experience. Chicken was good, ham was good atmosphere was excellent. I'll be back!

Chris Guarnera

Fun experience ...with place of history...yet over priced for the food quality.

Cora Lee Walker

Unique dining, great food and awesome service

Christian Rivera

Love the good always have a watier there incase you need more stuff have never been disiponted

Israel Gonzalez

I was there today, and well I gave a two star. The chicken is always great and the waitress did a great job. The two stars is because we noticed the treatment from the hostess, and this is not the first time. I have been going to Juniper since 2003, and my family loves it. The other thing is that we noticed that the new item in the menu which is the hot chicken was offered to others and not to us, we questioned why didn't they offered it to us. Though it will not stop me from going, but I do believe that my money has the same value as others. In any way am I using the R word, but I do see the treatment we have received every time we go. Sorry that I am speaking my mind, but that's how it is.

Tammy Starkey

The food was good but it would of been nice to know a head of time that they do cash or check also they told us that kids under 4 were free and it actually was 9.00 per kid they say it's a set up fee because they ate off a plate. They need to have better explanations on their menu and website

Jacob Reimer

Great family style place

Sandy Webster

Delicious food, great staff, beautiful location. We ate there last night & I'm already looking forward to our next meal there!

Lyman Woodworth

This is by far the best fried chicken you can get in Colorado. If there is a better place I sure have not found it. The atmosphere is wonderful, the employees are delightful and the food is top-notch. If you are looking for an amazing place to take your sweetheart, the visiting family or just treat yourself to a great meal this is this place to go.

Michelle Inman

We really knew nothing about this restaurant, which was just down the road from our campground. Family style servings of either ham or fried chicken. Both were very good. The fried chicken had a crispy crust and was not a bit greasy. Be sure to try the home made apple butter! Limited hours, be sure to reserve ahead of time.

Retta Edling

Open seasonally, cash or check only, family style, so popular that reservations are almost required. Consistent service and food. This is a family-run place that is unique in the area. The food is good home-cooking that you you don't have to cook. The price is reasonable, portions large and choices limited. We take out of town guests. Looking forward to going the next season.

James Jackman

This is a must dining do. Very unique to Colorado Springs, well 14 miles south, but worth the drive. Some of the best family fixens if not the best friend chicken with string potatoes, biscuits with homemade jam and okra veggies. Anyone visiting the Pikes Peak region in Colorado Springs must dine here. It is a great experience.

Dan Weiss

Oustanding service and delicious food...best chicken fried steak around (Friday’s only). I highly recommend!

James Woelke

Place is a landmark for a reason. Excellent fried chicken and the sides and service are always very good. Make reservations.

Vickye Posey

Greatest atmosphere. Food really good although I can't really say it was worth the price of the plate. Loved the fireplace in our room. The people were friendly enough.

Jarrett Bailey

Best fried chicken we've had in years. The home style serving is a fresh change. The food and even the gin is sourced locally. Great history behind the restaurant which adds to the charm.

Richard Hamilton

First time and we were very pleased. Great service, food atmosphere. Definitely worthy of further visits.

Tyler Haber

Excellent food in a very quaint atmosphere. Definitely worth the drive from the Denver area.

Jennille Spellman

Delicious homemade food served family style! Staff was very friendly and attentive. We'll be back. :-)

Miles Werking

Great food!!! Great atmosphere!!!great SERVICE

Dean Murphy

Fried chicken was dry. Cider appetizer was like a melted slushie. Service was good. Prices were good. Too far to go for the food.

Amone brice

This place is sooooooooo amazing, and the food is delicious

Sara Smith

Wonderful experience. Good food and a great place to bring the entire family.

Skankhunt41

One word, three syllables Delicious.

Steve DuBois

MUST HAVE RESERVATIONS ONLY OPEN FRIDAY TO SUNDAY

D Drake

JVR is a real gem! Always a uniquely wonderful experience.

Al Gonzalez

Nice, local "destination" restaurant. Located in a historic adobe farmhouse. Family owned with limited menu, basically awesome pan- fried chicken and baked ham, but in a unique historic setting. Not ADA friendly, as it's on a working ranch. If you're familiar with Denver's White Fence Farm, similar vibe.

Jeffry Ziegler

The best friend chicken around! Very attentive wait staff and a great location. Highly recommended for family gatherings!

Audrey Sizemore

Family style at its absolute best. Never had biscuits and potatoes and gravy this good.

Steve Calu

Love this place. Best home cooking in town.

Lori Breford

Very yummy and the service was beyond awesome!

Fred Copeland

Update. Sense my 1st post they called right away and were very apologetic. This place is fantastic and really do care about your experience. Previous review. For the 1st time in my 44 years of going here the service was off. The food was delicious as always.

Barb Lewis

Quite possibly the best chicken fried steak I have ever eaten.

John Place

Old stage coach stop with excellent fried chicken and baked ham. Mashed potatoes, okra with stewed tomatoes, home made biscuits and apple butter. Excellent place to bring guest for a great Colorado experience!

Robert Hadley

The food is always great, and the service is excellent. The atmosphere is rustic ranch and warm and inviting. One of the best gamily dinning experiences. We try to dine there at least a few times in thier season.

MUSIC DANDY

Great experience

Donna Kearns

Yesterday I took my friend for his birthday to his favorite restaurant Juniper Valley. We had been there before and just loved it. The food is excellent and we always had good service. However yesterday I had made reservations a week ago for lunch for his birthday to Juniper Valley . We ate our first go-round and wanted more of the various things that we had eaten and they brought one piece of chicken and one piece of ham for the two of us. They advertise as much as you want to eat yet they bring you one piece at a time. Next we were nearly done eating I was still finishing up and the waitress came to our table and said "we're going to have to ask you to leave somebody else's come in and had a reservation at 3 so you have to leave now". We were stunned. I got ready to pay the bill I paid with a card and ask for a receipt. They said we don't do paper receipts anymore and I said well I need something I was going to put the tip on there. The girl responded we'll discuss the tip in a minute then she held up her tablet with three choices for you to pick one of those choices you're going to leave a tip for 11.00 or two other choices. I was so stunned I couldn't believe it .and I just looked at her. That offended me and now I'm really offended. I have a coupon book with coupons in it a whole page has their coupon. I wanted to help pay with the coupon out of the book and they said we will not accept it. Needless to say we left with a very sour taste in our mouths for our favorite restaurant and I do believe we will not be back. The idea that we would be asked to leave the table when we wanted more of an item they brought us one piece at a time when there were two of us. It was a zoo as they held up a tablet saying pick how much you're going to tip you have three choices I now regret that I did not say now you don't get a tip. It was very disappointing and upsetting such a place as good a food as they have and then treat their guests the way we were treated what a shame or should I say shame on you. I should say the desert is supposed to come with the meal. We ordered the desert and they charged us $6 a piece. My bill was over $80 for two of us and we only had tea and coffee to drink way out of hand.

Ryan Robison

All you can eat fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy!! I do like it, however I feel it is a bit expensive.

Jim Jaminet

Very good place to have great fried chicken. I did the spicey. All good at this place.

Rachel Schoenly

Great family style ranch food and lovely adobe

Stephanie Crytser

Amazing food. Great service, be sure to make reservations. Landmark of history ! Will return

Liz Hare

All you can eat chicken served family style. The chicken and sides were delicious but the price can be a bit steep unless you bring your appetite and if you order cocktails. The menu hasn't changed since it opened in the 50s and they embrace the Colorado small town tradition of single item restaurants. Would visit again but would come way more hungry. Reservations are really a must and hot chicken on Thursday is worth it.

tina randall

Awesome as usual. Love to go there. Best Chicken ever

P N

The family style is a great concept, the server was very pleasant and attentive.

Robert Quintana

Fist time there with family. The fried chicken was excellent along with all the sides. Staff was courteous and prompt. Family and I would go again, next to try the chicken fried steak.

Sarah Grider

Great atmosphere, service, and delicious food. Glad we finally stopped to check it out. We'll definitely be back.

Ron Davis

A pleasant experience. Home style eating which was great. A very welcoming and comfirtable place to have a family dinner. Reservations recommended.

Omar

This place is the best kept secret of Colorado Springs. Food is authentic taste delicious. The staff is amazing these people know hospitality. I now live in Seattle Washington and I will travel back to Colorado just to eat here. Make sure you get the fry chicken.

Tommy Hagey

great food, great atmosphere. Worth the drive

A unique establishment with unparalleled service and food. Bring your appetites and make reservations!

Douglas Vivod

Great place recommend to all

Bryan Matthews

Visit several times a year. Always excellent food and no chance of walking away hungry. Great atmosphere. Keep up the good work!

Daryl Howard

Due to carb-loading I could only eat fried chicken and cole slaw. And, as usual, no sugar-free dessert choices. Had to finish my meal elsewhere. Others in my group really enjoyed the meal. Just not designed for people with diabetes.

Melanie Brewer

The best fried chicken ever!

Brenda Downs

This is must for anyone who loves a good old fashioned home cooked meal. Service was excellent and super friendly. Served family style, perfect fried chicken and all the fixins' were delicious!

Phyllis G Davis

There's nothing better than sharing a phenomenal meal of pan fried chicken, riced potatoes, cream gravy, okra casserole, biscuits with apple butter in a wonderful setting! One of the best restaurants ever!

Justine Westervelt

Juniper Valley was an amazing experience. It's ranch style cooking, no flair just done right. They make ham or chicken and the sides that go with them. They have mastered what they do and you won't be disappointed. Their apple butter and rolls are insanely addictive.

mike mcgee

This place has been here longer than I have and for good reason...the fried chicken and fixins are like grandma used to make. Reservations are a must.

Alisa O

This place had a family dining experience. We were impressed with the food and staff. The place had amazing ambiance. Our waiter Noah was awesome. Very professional and upbeat. Our glasses never emptied and never waited forever for food. Great menu!

Richard Williams

Good food, good experience.

Vicky Bingham

Good fast service, excellent fried chicken and biscuits.

Jake McCasland

The "Hot Chicken" was amazing!

6trout

I’ve been looking forward to trying this place for years! The rib’s birthday seemed like a good excuse. The atmosphere and people were really nice. Unfortunately, the food was bland, way over cooked, and dry.

Kaitlyn Ragsdale

We love coming here! Its a great family-style meal; the ham is amazing, as is everything else.

Bonnie Thompson

Awesome custom ranch cuisine! Call ahead.

Gary Atkins

Juniper Valley has the best home style fried chicken anywhere.

Jim Rosberg

The staff was awesome. The food was extremely good. We had the chicken next time I'm going to have the ham I'm sure it is just as good as the chicken.all the side dishes including the okra casserole we're excellent. You will not go away hungry guaranteed. We are here on vacation again and this was our first visit but I'm sure future vacations will put us back at this quaint roadside restaurant.

Karl Ray

Not gourmet, but all-you-can-eat, solid comfort food, served family style. We took what we could gather of the family, a party of ten spanning three generations. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service. They have a unique selection of craft brews and wines. We like to sample craft beers at the local microbreweries. They had some we've not seen elsewhere. This is a great place for a family meal.

Peter T

Awesome! Food was great. Setting was perfect. Drive there was very scenic. Will return for sure!

Lisa Ferraro

Delishish as always. Service was awesome!

Sarah Henning

Ask for the leaflet with all the details about the place while you eat.

Brian Braden - DOC

The food was bland and tasteless. There was a dead Rat outside where everyone has to enter the restaurant. The price for dinner was ridiculous it was so expensive!!

Laura Miller

Family owned and run for many years, great people

Ray Hale

Great service great food. We have been going there for decades

Troy Bosco

The best way to describe eating here is that it is like going to your Grandma's for Sunday dinner and no one had to clean up when your done. Love this place and that it's still the same as it always has been and hopefully always will be. Thanks for keeping it real!!

Beverly Machuca

We love it we just had our anniversary dinner and as usual everything was fresh hot homemade and delicious. It takes me back to when i was a little girl and my grandmother and mother use to prepare meals as such. Thank you all for your wonderful examples of what kindnes generosity and hospitality is susposed to be in a family oriented environment. Tje Machuca, Holloway and James family

Brett Ogden

Loved the chicken-fried steak. Fun and unique place. Make reservations and remember - only cash or check!

Kayla Parker

Juniper Valley was amazing! The food was delicious, and they served huge portions! It was a warm experience. 10/10. Highly recommend.

ryan brosmer

Great dinner experience for my wife's birthday. Friendly atmosphere, authentic, tray classic dishes. Desserts were a highlight. Don't expect anything too fancy, but expect a nice time. They do what they do and they do it well.

Renata Templeton

So yum! Good for families, or couples.

Richard Jeffords

Best chicken in Colorado.

Chris Rourke

Wonderful family atmosphere. Fantastic food. Great service. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Samuel Mahnke

Years and years of some of the best homemade food you can buy!

John Haven

We went as a group of nine and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The drive from the Springs along 115 is very senic. When we arrived it was crowded, but everyone found a place to park. We were seated in a room that had 2 round tables for 10. The menu is simple and the food served family style was excellent. Our server was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning, especially when family is visiting. Don't forget to visit their gift shop.

Jessica Lopez

I had some pretty high expectations coming here. I found it to be a bit pricey. They are also very weird about letting you take home your leftovers. I usually eat smaller portions in one sitting, I usually box up my leftovers. I almost felt cheated like I just paid a hefty amount and didn't really feel that I got my money's worth. Service was ok. I thought the staff could use some customer service training. Just wasn't the experience I had hoped for.

Dave Fisher

Oh my goodness the best fried chicken I ever had!!!!!!! Awesome sides as well. Great ambiance!

Natalie Baillie

Delightful staff and comfort food at it's best. Make sure to visit the gift shop, pick up a few jars of Apple Butter. Enjoy.

Anonymous

This family run Resturant is a great experience. The building is very, very old with Adobe walls. Each room is small but quaint without feeling to crowded. They recommend reservations and they are only open a few days of the week and close during the winter. Now the food, you can choose from either fried chicken or ham steak. Food is served family style and seconds are most welcome. I think on one night they also have one other selection. You get a choice of two appetizers, main course and desert. They have riced mashed potatoes, white gravey, and mixed veggies with the meal as well. Parking is free and plenty of it as well as a small gift shop with very unique gifts. A very pretty drive but use your GPS as you can go by it very easy.

Enrique Machuca

Excellent food and friendly service in a family environment.

jess meggers

Juniper valley ranch was a awesome place & fantastic experience!!!

Mitchell Clement

Family run since 1951 They treat you like it used to be They genuinely care that you experience is the best it can be A must see gift shop also

Clint Fox

They know customer service. Their fried chicken is beyond compare. The ham is like a special Christmas dinner. They serve one item that is sure to warm those who love country food, white gravy. That and the fried chicken are heaven in the piñon and junipers. The location is beautiful, as we were leaving, the coyotes were howling, did they pay them to do that. This place is not to be missed!!!

Adrianna Baucom

The food was delicious while the family style service made the experience very enjoyable.

Derek Meenach

You feel like you’re eating at a home away from home. A family-friendly restaurant and with probably one of the best meals I’ve ever experienced. Would recommend to anyone!

Malasada Sprinkle

The fried chicken is nothing to speak about it was dry unseasoned and burnt. Save yourself from this experience KFC is so much better! We had simple questions for our server when we went and they were unable to answer them the place has been there for 40 years and I would have expected at least tasty food, especially for the price..overrated by locals.

Sheryl Hansen

Delicious...we had a great time...

Ashley Rabuck

Everything they serve is absolutley delicious

Renee Cinkosky

Dana Hale

Becky Frisch

Keith Hays

Been in business for 60 years in an Old Ranch House. Entrees are fried chicken and Ham. Served family style with all the appropriate sides. A must-do.

Richard Latour

An enjoyable evening served with a little history from our community. The ambiance of JVR alone makes this worth the short drive from Colorado Springs, but the food makes it worthy of regular encores, particularly for any special occasion you're observing. I came in search of fried chicken to rival my mom's and I'm not sad to report that her recipe is still unchallenged. However, I also got to try their chicken fried steak. By itself the CFS is tender, savory and delicious, but paired with their cream gravy... I might just ask the descendants of the Ellis and Shirola families to adopt me. Surround that CFS with home made biscuits, apple butter and an okra casserole that will ambush your palate in the very best way and you might join the family too. I had no expectation of a good wine list when I made our reservations, but I was most pleasantly surprised to find a short but very agreeable collection of reds & whites. We chose the gewurtztraminer and were very pleased with our selection. Our meal was complete with the dessert of the day which was a delicious custard accompanied by a very respectable cup of coffee. Service was friendly and fun and you're very unlikely to regret your choice of Juniper Valley Ranch for a dinner with your family or friends.

justan fransway

Cool experience!

Kim Chatterley RMT, CNMT

Honestly, it was the best dinner I have ever had. The fried chicken was perfect! The okra casserole was delightfully full of flavor and the biscuits and Apple butter were unforgettable. Thank you for an awesome dinning experience!
