I am a great fun of Japanese food. I’ve been to many places in LA and this place didn’t disappoint me. The service is just great: the stuff is very attentive and friendly. The prices are not very high but booking is essential. This restaurant is always crowded with people. So, it is a good idea to book a table if you don’t want to queue for a long time. Definitely recommend for everyone.

Trying a Japanese food was great and this one Yamashiro was a awesome. i thought that a Japanese food was something different but this one really good.It was a bit pricey but it was worth it. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

Rachel Stasiak

Food is way to expensive for what little amount you receive. View & atmosphere are beautiful.

Zakrey Kennedy

Very nice place, a little dark but really nice. It's the perfect place to take a date and enjoy the scenery and view of Los angeles. I recommend it for sure

Sandra Strain

This was the most beautiful restaurant I've ever seen. So gorgeous and the food was wonderful! You have to make a reservation in advance because it's always packed. The view is breathtaking! It's a must see!!

Amari S

This spot sure knows how to treat their clients. Constantly with a very kind demeanor. The food is affordably priced, constantly delicious and clean.

Serge Chakmakjian

I can only comment on the delicious drinks as we went to the bar after the night market. we got a table pretty quickly and had very friendly waiter. The views of LA are amazing, and the cocktails complemented it very nicely.

Justin Chen

Great little market, was here for July 4th and vibes were great! Food vendors were really nice. Catch the sunset here!

An upscale Japanese restaurant with scenic views and beautiful gardens -- great place to dine (must reserve your seat) 2 dining locations [main restaurant and courtyard with pond] to hang with special friends at the opposite wing (full bar …

Try something with a kick and let the flavors excite your culinary senses. The spicy goat pepper crunch roll was life and with each bite I was highly satisfied. The lunch menu is nice and the attentive service staff provide a courteous display of customer service that allows for you to enjoy a business meeting with colleagues. Roll by and try a specialty roll too.

Upscale place in an amazing building built a century ago in the style of a traditional Japanese temple. Haven't been in the restaurant for several years so can't speak to the current quality of the food, but you know it's $$$. They do an outdoor "market" (street fair) on Thursday evenings in their parking lot with about 20 food booths, alcohol, etc. Great views of Hollywood & LA., live jazz... Nice atmosphere.

Krista Kefauver

Great dishes! Only thing I can complain about was the the speed of service & attention to detail. May have been a new server. The food was fabulous, the view is what you are paying for really. Not a fan of their burger, I was really excited to try.. as well as sesame seeds nearly on every item. But as for the food it was fabulous as well as the drink list, landscaping and architecture.

It's not the same as before.... miss the salt plate for one. Is the food good? yes. Are there amazing views? if you're outside (or if you walk around and it's not blocked off from a private party like the last time we went). Service? Not this time, delayed seating, didn't have enough of the 'new' menu and not so much personal attention. The pricing.... well it's in line for where you are and what you're ordering. I've only been here a couple times, but hope this recent experience was a fluke and not indicative of a new direction, but is what reflects what would normally be a higher rating.

Best at nights with reservation great restaurant love the theme great monumental structure building great staff and polite

I've been to this restaurant and their sister restaurant on Polk. Both places are really nice! I love the dark, dim-lighted aesthetic that's perfect for date nights and just a nice dinner with friends. Their oysters and sashimi are very fresh! They taste super good! They have specials occurring everyday. Food did take a little while but overall food is really good and fresh.

I know everyone bows down to Yamashiro but except for the view I had a terrible experience. Started with the guy at the entrance not wanting to let me and my girlfriend in (we had to say 3 times we had a reservation), then a valet guy pulled behind our car and started flashing the lights although we were going to the valet. In the restaurant our server was 100% on autopilot, food took incredible long (although the restaurant was sort of empty) and it was nothing out of this world at all for the price and time and at the end the valet treated us like we were leaving at 2am although it was 10pm and I tipped $5 over a $8 fee. So.... it's a nay for me.

Amazing spot An island in the West Hollywood Ocean Incredible panoramic views from DTLA Hollywood, Century City and more Thursday Market Night for food trucks or any other day for restaurants

Great food, STUNNING view, but sub- par service!! The young ladies working the front desk were wonderful and made sure I had the best seat in the house! Our waiter barely checked on us (seeing as 20% gratuity is automatically applied to our bill)!! Joke is we would've given more than that if the service was good!!!

Kingsley Douglas

This place knows how to satisfy their customers. Regularly with a helpful approach. The food is reasonably priced, constantly flavorful and neat.

Carolina Umeda

Beautiful restaurant. You may need a reservation to have dinner there. It's huge, but also full of people. Food is delicious. Very taste. The atmosphere is incredible! The only thing that causes a little headache was the payment. They passed the card 3 times, luck us, the bank blocked those transactions, otherwise, we would be charged 3 times the same amount. Be careful! Besides that, it was a good experience.

This place is great. Made to order bowls with care. It takes 10-20 min but is worth it. Probably the best quality fish I've had at a fast casual spot. It's a few dollars pricier than most but worth it. I had the Yamashiro | Hollywood special and it's enough for 2 people. And they don't charge for extra sauces. Will definitely go back.

Ronnie Stephen

Food was AMAZING. WOW! Plus there's some very beautiful Asian girls there. I will be back. Oh yea, Alex my server was very kind, friendly and attentive. I gave an $40.00 tip. I hope that was enough

Donald Owen

We had a wonderful evening. Sushi was out of this world! If you are visiting LA and looking for a good sushi restaurant, do yourself a favor and eat at Yamashiro.

Barbara Robins

Extraordinary view! Terrific Sushi! A tad pricey but good food!

Virgi Mateo

Always excellent food and service. You can choose the view of the city or the charming garden. The valet service after dinner didn't even open or close the door for my guest. At $12, this should have been a no brainier. And it wasn't busy at the time.

Best view! Good food! If you go there on a Thursday late afternoon, you'll get to see the Hollywood Night Market as well. You'll have an option to buy food from the market or inside from the restaurant. The restaurant itself is sitting at a higher level than where the market is and on the top of the Hollywood Hills that gives clear views of downtown LA and Century City. You can go there either by car, a shuttle bus and also walk. Parking is hard to find and it's not easy to drive in such a narrow winding road. The shuttle comes from Hollywood and La Brea where the Mosaic Church is which takes forever although it's a short walk from there. If you decide to walk from the Hollywood Walk of Fame, then go north on Orange st from Hollywood Blvd, cross the street at Frankin, and go left. When you see the sign, walk up the street. It's a steep slope and you'll feel out of breath in that 10 min walk.

Tiffany Jennings

Exceptional food and cocktails. Try the roasted chicken it's superb. Also the bar tender makes a delicious drink with banana liquor. Don't know the name of the drink but it's very good.

Adriana Siu

Definitely an LA staple. It’s pricy but worth it. The ambience is out of a Christopher Nolan movie. Sit with views or in the inner courtyard if you want it to be quieter.

ohan khudabakhshyan

Great place and great food. And a perfect view

Jonathan Perkins

One of the cities finest views with delicious sushi to please anyone's palate.

Laura Squitieri

This is a beautiful restaurant. The food is delicious. I'm giving it 3 stars because we had a problem with service. Management was very good at resolving it for us. Hopefully that doesn't happen usually.

Ronda Holman

Three of us had cocktails at the bar before being seated for dinner where we ordered several items which we planned to share. Everything was delicious, service was perfect, view was awesome. A terrific evening.

Lillie Patterson

I been here twice now and had only great memories. The games are very affordable to play and the bar has a great selection of drinks to chose from. Nice atmosphere, though a tad too loud for me. Interesting food, very fatty recipes but definitely tasty. Pretty good fries.

My partner and I came to LA for our anniversary and we booked this restaurant in advance solely for the ambiance and the amazing views. We asked them about a week before we arrived for specific accommodations and they said they could not guarantee it but they would try their best, which we completely understood; they are a fairly popular spot and we knew it would be a busy night before we arrived. When we arrived in LA, we were extremely pleased that they were able to honor our request. The ambiance is as beautiful as is pictured in other posts, especially the seating in the garden area. The location is on a hill, with views overlooking LA, which makes for great photo opportunities. The food is mediocre and not anything special, and our server was handling a lot of different tables so he forgot our orders twice and we had to remind him after waiting quite a while. To be honest, I would come here only for the customer service and ambiance and I would recommend it for those who are first-timers to LA, but I believe the food and service has room to improve.

Leah Shin

The Himalayan salt plate was MMMMM. The server comes and crushes the garlic onto the 400 degree plate and shows you how to cook the wagyu. Cooking it with the garlic adds more flavor to the meat. You can cook the salad on the plate too and …

shannon thomas

Great views, great variety of menu options, and great customer service!!! Pleasant experience!!

Joshua Lopes

Really good food at a decent price and really good views. Went late at night and had a short stroll through the outside garden. Sat inside near the koi pond and had really good service.

Eric Cowan

Amazing views and food!!! The food was perfectly prepared and presented. We ordered several plates to share and sample so we the different dishes.

Car Are

A good place to celebrate a special occasion, the service was on cue, food was very good, but be careful what you order as it can become very pricey. For two you can spend $$ to $$$ or more, or you can stop just for drinks at the bar, a lively environment with live jazz music, at least on this night. The location is amazing, up in the hills with an overview of Hollywood and other near cities. A very nostalgic location that has been around since the early 19 hundreds. I won't tell you everything as you need to check it ot for yourselves. Enjoy. BTW, the buddha is about 600 years old, at least that's what I was told.

Daniel Akins

WOW!! If you want to have a Romantic evening, this will add to your love life!

Wain Phillips

20 in our party. Split into two tables in the bar to the right as you enter. Over the next couple of hours, others arrived and a few of the original group were slowly leaving. This was on a Sunday afternoon between 5 and 8 pm. Overall, the food service was very bad. Our table of 12 ordered at the same time. However, the food arrived sporadically and myself and 2 others received our order so much earlier than the other 9 that we, of course, waited for our friends meals to arrive and all of us would then eat together. It did Not happen that way. I do not like Cold Japanese food. But that's what the three who were served so early did. On the good side, the waitress was nice enough to give us Separate Checks.

Jordan Herring

Japanese food and the scene at this spot is very good. Excellent spot to spend time alone or talk business. Reminds me of a cafe in Chicago I loved to visit.

Barbara King

Classic view of the city. One of the oldest structures in Hollywood. Elegant dining

Robert Kent DesRochers

We went there for our anniversary dinner, I have to say for having such raving reviews overall I was not blown away from the experience. I did enjoy the beautiful view and gardens they were stunning and we'll maintained. The food was fresh but items that were to arrive hot were barely warm and we only saw our waiter twice once for ordering and once for the bill. He profusely apologized for attending to us late after we had been seated for a long period, I don't know if they were short that night or what. For the $$$$ pricetag I expect impeccable table set up, comfortably in the seating, lighting etc it all seemed off and the noise level was through the rafters.

Rochelle Davidson

This place gets crowded fast, so get there early or expect a long wait. It's pricey, but well worth it if you are craving good sushi.

renlid1

Beautiful setting overlooking Hollywood. Sushi was very good as well as the cooked dishes. Not outrageously pricey either. There is a slight dress code, just get a little dressed up and have a wonderful time!

Alyssa Stegman

Giant fortune cookie dessert is fun! But the food really is great and fresh here and the view of Hollywood is just so gorgeous! Walk the garden and enjoy a beautiful dinner!

Henry Ingram

Had a good experience eating here. I hadn't been here in ten years. Now has dine in. Our waitress Whitney was very nice and did a good job. We ordered the General Tso Chicken and it was very good. The egg drop soup was good also. Very reasonably priced.

Arnold Velazquez

One of my favorite views in LA, Thursday nights are extremely fun when the farmers market sets up in roadway that leads up to the entrance of Yamashiro. I especially enjoy the vibe on the terrace above the pool where a house dj plays till 10 pm...

Lisa Qualey

Fine dining. beautiful gardens and view the cuisine extraordinary and artistic definitely a 10

Lisa Blanchard

Beautiful Sunday brunch! It had everything and was worth the price of admission! The food was prepared fresh, the mimosas were flowing and the service staff was exceptional. Celebrated a 50th bday that morning and their version of the cake is awesome! Ice cold donuts...mmmmmmm. who knew??

Cynthia Chavez

Came here for my birthday wanted to go to a nice place. First the host forgot to seat us down. Once we finally got seated food was good waiter was suppose to bring out cake with pyro like everyone else received and the end of our meal, but don’t know why I got an old cake with a 1 cent candle. Thank you for the terrible experience will NEVER RETURN DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR BIRTHDAYS this place is for large gatherings not an intimate place.

Preetham Madeti

Yamashiro Martini - Def one of the best drinks I've had! It tastes exotic with a hint of bitterness and doesn't feel like just another drink. And then there's Buddha Sushi!! Ahhh the best sushi ever! Must try both of these

Morgan Bell

Good price! Noodles were delicious. Orange chicken made with mostly dark meat which isn't my preference but still decent. Nice workers and good environment overall!

Blake Curci

Amazing experience, exceptional cocktails, savory food! And.... its got a ton of cool history with a view.

Joseph Shum Seruto

Honestly one of the best meals I've had in Los Angeles. I came in with moderately high expectations and they were still exceeded. Meal for two isnt enormous but it will leave you satisfied. Excellent service, coffee, food and atmosphere. Please do yourself a favor and go before this place needs a reservation months in advance!

Steven Reed

Loved it! Fish is about the freshest you're going to find and super authentic sushi. I had the sashimi deluxe and it was excellent!

Andriela Givera

Amazing, hole in the wall sushi spot! Grab a seat at the counter and make sure to order at least one roll off the Fresh from Japan menu on the white board above the chefs. I got the Tahoe roll (with fresh tuna) and Pokémon roll, both phenomenal!! Rolls have 6 generous sized pieces of sushi. Vegetable/shrimp tempura app had the perfect, light crunch. Don't miss out!

Kimber Ziegelman

Absolutely amazing and authentic Japanese food and atmosphere. We just came from japan in April and couldn’t figure out why it seemed so familiar it turns out the restaurant is an exact replica from Kyoto. Would highly recommend. If you can I’d make a reservation and ask for the garden view.

Quentin Bossom

Now here is a place to go while in LA for the evening. A smart restaurant in an original old (built in 1918) Japanese styled home, built by two rich brothers. The restaurant food is top quality and matches the design of the property fully. However finally the views from the place are just stunning and the lights of LA at night are off the "planet". See the Pics.

Josh Eidenberg

This place is beautiful. This is so much history to this restaurant. Food was really good. I would def come back

Narvolean Jackson

Very swanky spot! Atmosphere is very sexy! It's a great date spot with someone special! But don't take a first date, you may spend more than he or she's worth! Lol

Lola

I've lived in Los Angeles my whole life and have seen the Peaks and valleys of Yamashiro. And I am very pleased to say that they are on an upswing. The food is absolutely delicious and the view cannot be beat. If you haven't been please go and if you've been before come back.

Caprice Brown

Went here for my boyfriends birthday. The view is beyond gorgeous and the atmosphere is beautiful as well. The food is good but pretty high priced.

Kaleigh Brown

Amazing ambiance and atmosphere sitting near the garden with live music, almost ruined by a distracted waiter and overcooked food. Will try again since it's such an amazing place and the service was the only issue, would try other menu items as most of what we got was good.

Christalee Eckles

Great atmosphere. Ate in the garden area which is beautiful. They have lots of heaters so you stay warm. Food wonderful tho they have raised their prices. Good for a special occasion. Free birthday dessert!

Raneen Bukhari

Food is good but not the best japanese but good. THE PLACE THO IS AMAZING. WOW WHAT A GARDEN. come for the night market

sandra pivaral

Thank you so much for the prompt reply, I appreciate the attention to this matter and understand where the miscommunication occurred. Please let me know if it is found and I look forward to visiting your establishment again. Sandra Pivaral

Jorge Reyes

I love this place. 4 stars just for the scenery and location. The view at night is awesome. The food and service is great. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend.

Isidro Zoroza

Awesome time at the Thursday night market. Delicious truck food and athmosphere. Great views of LA from the hill

Neel Mehta

The best views of the entire city, paired with AMAZING food and exceptional service. The beyond meat dumplings were the greatest veggie food options we could think of and the entire dinner was so good!

Kwanghyun Chi

This place's been always considered as one of top 5 places in LA with great city views. Inside of the restaurant, it has kind of mix of tradtional and modern vibe. Food is great with a wide range of prices for sure. The Japanese garden feels exotic and its surrounding view is spectacular and great! Highly recommended!

Ernest Dixon

I was surprised to find this jewel a few minutes from my home. I've always passed this place, and am so glad that I finally visited. FUN, FUN, FUN! The atmosphere was laid back, food was great, and our chef was hilarious! The hibachi serving sizes were ample & were cooked just as requested. My only qualm is the dinner menu's price point is a bit more than expected, but other than that my experience was wonderful! Will definitely visit again.

Daniel G

Food is fine, but the place/location is amazing. Great view of the city. Gardens are nice to walk through.

Cobester G.

We were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and the only place we though of was Yamashiro. We enjoyed our experience to the max, our server Alex is a an absolute pro, and was on top of our evening. Can't say enough, thank you Alex. The food and drinks are next level fantastic, so tasty and delicate. We enjoyed a burger meal, plus sushi, which were exquisite. If ypu need a wonderful place to visit for the view and food and drink offerings, look no further than Yamashiros.

Steve Jefferson

Great spot for delicious Japanese food. Great place to meet and catch up with friends. The staff was very welcoming and sociable. Menu is like a place in San Francisco I loved.

Noyon ali Oparac

Yamashiro | Hollywood is easily one of my favorite sushi restaurants in LA. The impeccable quality of the fish is always consistent, and you really can't beat the price for their sashimi lunch or even their sashimi deluxe (if you're extra hungry). Simply put, the fish is always fresh and delicious.
