Good service and delicious burgers, what more could you want? The standard hamburger was very good, and for any vegetarians or vegans the impossible burger was great! We arrived around 6pm and were able to be seated immediately.

Upscale burger place. Burgers are really good, if a little pricey. Fantastic onion rings. Fries are string thin. I think wedge fries would work better. I'd go back and order the onion rings but skip the fries. All in all I liked it.

I Googled burger joints in West Oakland. Umami Burger was the first to pop up. I was running late for work and had a taste for a burger. Umami was not it. I ordered the Cali burger, Onion Rings and the carmelized brussel sprouts. Everything was hella greasy. There was a taste that smothered every item I don't know if it was the truffle oil. But nothing had it's own individual taste it all taste the same. I've smelled and tasted that taste before but just couldn't put my finger on it. Everything together cost me $28.95 I don't have a problem paying for good food. This just wasn't it. The Cali burger was really messy hot. When it was cool down it was more cohesive to eat without everything sliding around in the cheese making a mess like a Carl's Jr. Commerical. And the lettuce was even wilted like a burger from the microwave with all the fixings. Funny thing about it, I saw burgers that were leaving the kitchen out to the floor that looked really pretty. Nothing like the hot mess that I had. Maybe it was a take out thing. That's what my burger was to go. Service wasn't all that great either. I was rung up at the bar. The bar tender gave me my food and my check. 3 girls came in and I assume they were regular customers by the comradery between them. When he asked what they were drinking, she replied you know what I'm drinking. But I guess he forgot he was dealing with me because I had to clear my throat an interrupt them to pay my check. Yea....I definitely won't be eating her again. And I can't get that taste out of my mouth.

The Trufflemaker Impossible Burger is really good. The burger is marked as vegan on the menu, and the waiter said the aioli is also vegan. I will definitely be going back to get this again!

Tried and loved the Impossible Burger! I would recommend, if you haven't had it before, to go with the multiple sliders, rather than the burger. The sliders give you a much better sense of the taste of this unique burger. I would also highly recommend the fries here, which are outstanding.

First off he restaurant is freezing, literally colder than outside. When we first got to the restaurant there were barely any customers there. When we finally ordered they told us they were out of half of the menu items, including french fries. We then proceeded to wait over an hour for our food in this freezing cold restaurant. I do not understand how it could have taken an hour to cook burgers. On top of this many of the glasses and utensils that we received were dirty. We had to request several times for new glasses. They kept coming back dirty. When one member of our party went to confront a staff member they told me that the entrance to the kitchen was full of trash. That is the trash was overflowing from the bins onto the floor. Our hostess, I believe her name was Bridget, was very understanding and did her best to accommodate us. I can say that she was the only positive part of our experience. She took the flak when the general manager did not have the courage to come out and talk with us. I can say with out a doubt that I will not be coming back to this restaurant.

This place is lovely, and was able to accomodate 7 of us super close to closing on a Friday night. The management allowed us to stay long after folks had left and while they were cleaning up. The shot pours were generous and the food itself very, very delicious. We had maple bacon sweet potato fries and chicken wings, and I cannot begin to remember what everyone had it all looked yummy. We will return again.

04/24/19: Update to review. Umami corporate contacted us after our previous review. They issued some cards to be used and encouraged us to try them again. We did and it was a COMPLETELY different experience. Greeted at the door. Seated quickly. Menus provided. Orders taken quickly by a friendly and knowledgeable waiter. Food came quickly and was very decent. We went during happy hour and that kept the cost down as their menu is kind of expensive for a burger joint. The happy hour menu was good. Beer was cold and only $4 each. Overall a much better job! Old Review: Don't go! We had a party of six on a Sunday evening. There were very few people in the restaurant. We got seated and had to go get our own menus.the restaurant was colder inside than it was outside very uncomfortable to sit there while you waited an hour for your food to come. They ran out of french fries! How does a burger place run out of french fries? They tried to make up for it by offering us complimentary cheesy tater tots. I guess they thought this was going to be our dessert since they showed up well after we finished our meals.while we were ordering we were also told they were out of about three of the seven or so appetizers they offer. To be fair the waitress, Bridget, did her best to accommodate us and apologized for the general manager who was never to be seen and hiding in the kitchen. My niece ordered one of the impossible burgers and it ended up costing somehow $19. Never going back ever! It was a long cold frustrating experience.

Umami Burger saved my friends and I on a rainy Saturday night (from the rain that is). They warned us their kitchen was backed up and that our food would be 45 min late (prior to ordering). The service was painfully slow, but the staff was really nice. The food was great. Hoping to go another time when we don’t have to wait as long for food, but was impressed with how the staff ultimately handled the slow service (free drinks eyyo)!

Quick update to my original review: Umami reached out to address my feedback and we will give it another shot soon. Hopefully I have better news to report after my next visit, but I was pleasantly surprised by their excellent customer service. I've had great experiences at Umami in LA and SF, but this one seriously missed the mark. My fiance's burger looked and tasted like a frozen patty you buy in bulk at Costco and I accidentally ordered the Impossible Burger, which I did not realize was vegan. I wish they would have mentioned this on the menu or to me when I ordered it. Needless to say we were both disappointed. There's zero chance the Impossible Burger could pass for meat and it was not good either way. And the real burger was not good either. Hoping they turn the food around because they are in a nice space in a good location.

A little pricey but definitely delicious. The burgers are great and u love the maple bacon fries. The burgers tend to be really rare if you order rare so I get their medium rare which is the exact amount of rare I like. Staff was nice and the place has a nice atmosphere.

This is the most outstanding place to enjoy real truffle bliss. I mean heaven on earth! The truffle fries mixed with sweet potato fries is pure magic. The salted chocolate ice cream sandwich is rich n velvety. Don't skip the infamous "impossible burger" which is plant based and fully loaded with flavor to savor!! Excellent environment , staff and service! One of the guest ordered the bacon bourbon drink and loved it so for the connoisseur of fine spirits they have a full bar to enjoy. Great birthday celebration.

Umami burger is amazing. The wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The burgers are of course delicious. There is a great Happy Hour menu that has a lot to offer for $6 appetizers. The alcohol menu is pretty extensive. There are a lot of beers on tap and something to find for anyone looking to drink. Also the inclusion of the impossible burger to appease to vegetarian and vegan tastes is very accommodating. They serve other things if you aren't in the mood or can't eat beef burgers, such as chicken or ahi tuna. A party of 6 of us were there tonight and we all shared lollipop wings, sweet potato fries, and shishito peppers. All the sauces that accompanied the sides were delicious many of them had a hint of truffle, and I thought it really elevated the flavor. For my burger I choose the sunny side which comes with a single patty, parmesan frico, fried egg, truffle thyme compound butter, and truffled aioli. The flavors were amazing. The meat was cooked perfectly as I asked and the burger was by far one of the best burgers I have ever had. Umami burger is definitely a gem and I look forward to coming back here to try their other burger creations.

Been looking for a consistently good burger place in Oakland and decided to give Umami Burger a try. All the hurgers sound delicious and creative on the menu, but seem to fall short on the delivery. I had their signature Umami burger - a single patty with parmesan crisp, grilled onions, mushrooms and umami sauce. The burger overall was dry, with very little in the way of onions and perhap 2 or 3 mushrooms. Not exactly the melt in your mouth description from the menu. On the upside the server was super friendly, upbeat and attentive. I might be convinced to try Umami Burger again and order a different option, but truthfully, probably not. Seems to miss the juicy burger experience.

Ended up here entirely by coincidence. The burgers are great and they have some good happy hour specials. On this particular occasion I did not have any cocktails so no comments on that front. There is a pretty good arrangement of seating as well so it is family friendly. All in all, I would say check it out if you are in the area.

This is one of my favorite turkey burger spots. Being that beef is off my menu, that's a lot. But they also have chicken and the impossible burger. The impossible burger brought is to this joint, but they kept us with the distinct flavors, like their house ketchup made with truffles, which is my favorite sometimes, and not so much others. Besides the good though, we always get Bridgett and she has become part of the experience. Stop by if ever hungry in the the neighborhood.

I am never a fan of burgers but Umami burger is more than tasty! My boyfriend and I got the sliders- one truffle burger, one impossible burger, and one truffle impossible burger. Yummy!! The services was really good - we went during closing time, so our server gave us two fries on the house. Would definitely come back again.

I have eaten here three times. The food was good the first two times. But the third time it felt like the kitchen failed in execution. The recipes seemed consistent, but the final product was lacking. For example: I ordered the Cali burger and there were barely any fried onions on it and the meat was over cooked. I then decided to have the fried chicken sliders next (still hungry) and the first two were well prepared but the last one literally had just fried batter inside (no chicken). It was disappointing. On the positive side the service was excellent. The staff was friendly and responsive. Don't think we will come back though.

First time I went, the place was uncomfortably empty. It was unnerving. I pretty soon got an idea of why. Umami is supposed to mean "savory." I think these people confused the meaning for salty. Ugh. There's not enough water in the world to make up for that meal. But things happen so I thought I'd try the again. This time, the service was inexcusable.The server completely forgot I was there. When she finally realized, she was so embarrassed that she disappeared and literally didn't come back. What??? When I finally got a manager, he lamely stuttered something about how she must be busy. Excuse me? Are you serious? What a total joke. No wonder this place is empty. Save yourself the hassle and go some place that actually knows what customer service and hospitality and Umami actually are.

How to make an impossible burger taste horrid? (Which is very hard to do, as impossible burgers rock!) Grill it for 30 minutes until it becomes cardboard--like, then dump 1/2 lbs salt on it. Top it with a slightly expired avocado. Awful meal last night, and we are (were?) regular customers. The waitress seemed immensely unhappy about working there, our drinks took over 20 minutes to arrive, the burger was cooked to death, fries were cold. In a largely empty restaurant (now I know why!), our order took nearly 50 minutes to arrive. To top it all off, at the end of the meal, they gave our credit card to a different group of diners! Totally unacceptable, especially since the waitress was under the impression that there is nothing wrong with swapping cards. We literally had to get up and hunt the card down from another table to get it back! I still feel bad that we actually tipped. Total waste of money - no one in our large group enjoyed their food as all was burned and dry. Overpriced for the quality you get (unless you love eating cardboard, in which case you could eat that for free!). Our meal deserved one star. This review is 2 stars because my drink was palatable (though it took forever to arrive).

We came on Friday night. It was very busy. The bartender was our waiter. He had too much to do, which left us feeling unattended to. We each ordered a burger, and we also ordered maple bacon fries and the Brussel sprouts. The burgers finally arrived, and we asked about our sides. "I'm going to go get them." we were told. We were halfway finished with our burgers by the time the fries arrived. The burgers were good, and so were the fries. We finished up and the busboy came to clear our table, at which point we mentioned that the Brussel sprouts never arrived. They were kind enough to finish making them for us and sent them with us to-go, free of charge. Overall, the experience was not good, but the food was on point.

Awesome burger joint! The bun really holds up to the burger, and the options are pretty varried. It's amazing that they make all sauces in house. The best fries, by far, are the maple bacon sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries aren't limp like some can be. Worth a trip to Oakland just for this place alone.

My husband and I each got the full falafel pita pocket and it was quite tasty and filling! (If you're not super hungry, I'd suggest getting a half pocket!). We also got a side of fries, which was also delicious. The service is friendly, but be prepared to wait a bit for your food if there's a line.

The truffle burger was small and did not have much truffle flavor to me. I have had this burger before a few years ago at LAX and it was exemplary. The garlic aioli was too pungent because of the raw garlic; why not roast the garlic for a better flavor? The koelsch beer is served in thr wrong type of glass.

The Umami burger is just ok. It seems a little 'simple'. It looks sloppily assembled. When ordering from an app, there weren't any options to add any condiments/garnish to it. There wasn't even an option to specify the temperature of the patty. The parmesan frico was a nice touch, and so were the mushrooms. The problem is I got two tiny mushrooms, probably taking up just 10% of the area. It's not worth $13.50, $5.50 at best.

The burgers are great but here’s the thing: The prices are standard for upscale burgers but the burgers don’t come with anything, not even fries. So it’s a normal price but you get less with it. I had the Cali burger (you have to pay extra to add avocado which is annoying) and the manly burger. Both were good. I also sampled the sweet potato fries (solid) and the maple bacon fries (also solid).

This place is pretty great. I have ordered delivery before and it is good. In person it is even better. The staff is great. Food is super, fast, and consistent. Full bar and good beer choices. The bartender was super.

I take my 5-stars back on the calamari. Totally inconsistent!! Went back - horrible. Went again few days later, even worse. I finally walked back to restaurant after taking an order to go to talk to the manager who blamed it on not being made with corn meal that day. Something about they were out!?!? Weird. Anyway, order at your own risk.

Found a great spot for finishing my work day over happy hour. I sat at the bar enjoying a fantastic old fashioned (with bacon) while finishing my last call for the day. The staff and bartender were awesome! And the chicken sliders were a very tasty treat. Cheers

Great server! Ordered the taco salad with grilled chicken. It was a good size salad but the chicken was dry and flavorless. The dressing was flavorless as well. The chicken wasn't cut all the way through. Fries were good.

Yikes... This location just felt mismanaged. Tons of guests waiting at the door and being ignored while empty tables are all over the restaurant and the staff struggled to serve those that were seated. It felt as if maybe one or two members of the team skipped work. For a $16 burger you expect a decent dining experience but unfortunately I can't see myself coming back to this location. I've had much better luck at others.

The food is good overall. The wait time not so much. I've been there twice and both times the wait time was noticeable. Last time we waited several minutes just to be seated without anyone being in too much hurry to prepare a table. Then ordered beer and burgers. You'd expect the beer to be ready right away at least but it took like 10m just to get the beers. I give 3 for service and 4.5 for food.

OMG the burgers and the sauces and the cheesy tots were awesome. I love the pickles bit of sweet and savory to clean the palate the house ketchup out of this world it took me back to my childhood so good I will put it on everything. I give them 5 stars

My Stop The impossible burger. It is one of the best burgers I've ever had. Super flavors, great texture, crispy outside, bloody inside, just good. The atmosphere here is wonderful. The staff friendly. Just go here and enjoy eating with your hand and be happy.

Had the impossible burger. Possibly, the best tasting veggie burger I've ever had. It's probably 90-95% there when it comes to tasting like a regular hamburger. Earthy flavor, which I'm guessing is from mushrooms in the patty. Texture is a little softer than a regular hamburger, not as salty. Still very good.

Good food but service was spotty. Need more staff. I had a bacon and spouse had Umami. Fries and Onion rings were average. Could have been hotter

Mediocre at best. $14 for a 1/4lb bacon burger with no fries. Additional $2.50 for a half order of fries that came out cold. Burger was decent.. but too small for the price. Almost $20 for a meal that would barely fill up a 10 year old. Won’t be back unless something changes about portions and or price.
