Food was not so good and when my family walked out to pay, a waiter followed us. I didn’t think much of it but when we got done paying, the waiter said “Tiiiip, tip you must give tip because we need tip!” Point and demanding for tip on the counter. I was like wth! I was going to give tip when paying my tab but because of the demand I put only a dollar. He then said “need more” and told me to give more. I then said that’s enough and bye!

Can I give this place a 0 star ?? My family and I come from Los Angeles to San Jose every year. We try different kinds of restaurants, buffets, etc. This by far is the worst!!! First of all who as a hostess gives the CUSTOMER THE FORKS AND TELLS THEM TO GO SIT THEMSELVES ? So I basically get handed all the forks and knives to place myself and my family on my own table? Okay? It gets worse! I almost gagged of how nasty the brócoli was! The pizza was not good at all it was still cold from the freezer or something. We ate whatever we could then our bill comes $43.00 for 2 people! 2 people! Wow outrageous. Not even in LA is that expensive. And let me tell you we are EXPENSIVE. My husband pays in the front desk and the waiter was so rude standing behind my elderly mother and looking down on her paying her food. She asked "is there anything else I can help you with?" And he said very rude "tip tip" we were like are you serious my sister was still eating btw. He stayed behind our chair "cleaning" so We left right away. This is not a way to treat customers. 0 0 0 stars for this!

You get what you pay for. It's really cheap for a buffet and there's a decent enough selection of food to have some variety. You will definitely get full off of the food. This is a good place for a budget buffet.

It's been years since my first and last visit here. I can't even remember how the food tastes like then and how the service was. Today we came on a Sunday 4:30pm, Mother's Day. I just want to try this place out again, with it being the closest to me, I don't want to venture out for a good restaurant knowing all of them will be packed. Okay, so the foods are cold and bland. With the price that we paid, Milpitas Buffet or Tomi in Eastridge mall would have been a better if not the best choice. This place is just not worth it. After reading the reviews regarding the rudeness or their being pushy on "tips", good thing it didn't happen to me today. But I did leave a tip of course.

I asked for a refill I drinked half and I saw them grab a soda from another table to fill my cup, I got up didn't pay and left. Dont even bother with this disgusting buffet. I was really upsets when the waitress Chase me and ask for a tips "screaming where's my tip" in front of customers when clearly my Kids were still at the table finishing eating so I got up to pay n she sees I don't put a tip on the check runs after me "we're is my tip you did not put a tip on your check" oh I was upset told her you have no right to do this what poor customer service you have as well all the others in this restaurant. I told her if you go back and look at the table you can see clearly my son had cash for your tip $5 . So when she seen the $5 tip my son had put down on the table her face reaction was priceless lol. But I told her after this show and you embarrassing me n my kids in front of all this people your not getting tip. And yes I walk out no tip n with her in my back yelling leave my tip in table. Ohhh and they get mad if you don't give them more than $3 tip and they will tell you off in there language or ran after you for more tip$ .. food was bad Sushi was like a day old FYI screaming for food poisoning. Some fruit was rotten and also the bun's and some veggies. Be careful smell your food before eating it or your in high risk of getting bad case of food poisoning. I will never go back to this restaurant and don't rescomemde it to anyone. If I can give them a 0 for review I would. There better buffets out there more friendly, better customer service and better fresh food.

3.5 Stars=> I have been regular customer primarily for lunch buffet past 10+ years. During this time, I have seen many other similar Asian buffets open & close because of food quality & price issues! The Tropicana is still open because they understand these two important items & still have many regular customers ( 1/2 Asian & 1/2 Latino)! I have read the negative reviews and find most of them are laughable & without merit! In a buffet situation, YOU are selecting the food items to eat & only have yourself to blame if you pick the wrong items? There are 50+ other hot or cold food items to choose from! Considering the lunch price here is about the same as McD or BK or TB, whichever is a better deal depends on the size of your wallet for a lunch meal!

This buffet is 100 times better than hometown buffet. The selections are great. Crabs, shrimps, fish, and much more great seafoods. The food is cooked just right, tender,and tasty. Nothing like the plain,dry over cooked food at Hometown buffet. Rating of 1 to 10, Hometown Buffet is a 03. Tropicana Chinese Buffet is a 9.

WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!! $16.99 PER PERSON!! So my kids and I go to this place last night. The ONLY good thing about this place was the food had very good flavor. Okay here's the details on this place. My kids and I walk in & we were greeted. They go to sit at the table & there's food all over the floor (probably from a toddler), so it doesn't look like they're on top of cleaning up after people leave. Anyway, We go to get our food & the food looks really good,but it wasn't even hot, it's warm. So we eat. Now keep in mind they close at 9:30. We're not even done eating and it's only about 8 & we're approached by one of the servers. With a bit of a tone in her voice, we are TOLD.... (NOT ASKED).... to go pay our bill because the manager wants to leave and I told her that we would pay the bill when we're done. She proceeds to tell us, "NO.... you pay bill now manager wants to leave!" OK?! So, I go pay the bill.... At this point she's got me irritated! I come back, we finish our food & as we get ready to leave she sees us getting ready to get up from the table.... I'm not even completely standing yet & she's right there at the table. As I get ready to put my sweater on, she's tapping the table..... tip, tip, tip....I look at her & say... GIVE ME A SECOND! She says okay & she stays there! I get my sweater on.... She starts tapping the table again demanding a tip!! We were going to leave a $5 tip but when she did that I said nope and walked out!!! I would not recommend going to this place at all. As far as their service goes they don't even deserve one star. If their food was hot like it should have been I think I would have given them five stars for their food.

Very dirty place. Food was okay, didn’t seem fresh though. The sushi bar was literally empty, no one was making sushi and lights were off. Sushi tasted a couple hours old, and their food in general was not of good quality. Carpet was dirty af and they hand you your forks and knives and tell you to sit yourselves. What’s the point of waiters and asking for tips if you don’t do your job. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Food was alright, server was hesitant on a tip. When I didn't leave any. She seems to be urging us to go. I run a marketing agency in the Central valley with 30 full time employees. If she would have caused a scene like others have said. Trust me, we do positive and negative publicity. I'm only being honest and not over exaggerated. Mediocre service and the food is just alright and slightly cold and over saturated with oil. It looks like left overs. Still edible but if you're expecting HomeTown Buffet's quality at minimum. This isn't the place for you. If you love oily, old food. Be my guest. It isn't the worst. It isn't the best. The waiters could use some training on how to treat guests and expectations on tips. If you want a good tip. Don't charge $20 per customer and on top of that visit table 2-3 times throughout the whole ordeal. I tip about $20-$50 when the service is exceptional. If you didn't get a tip. Please know something needs to change with our service. Hope this is a learning experience for everyone there.

This place serves very good food and is great. Although, some of the servants aren't very good at there job. Other than that, the service is great. You can make your own BBQ and they fry it there for you, make your own soup, they heat it for you. And there are a ton of choices there to eat. Such as BBQ dipped chicken, pork ribs, fried shrimp, fried broccoli and spinach, full fish, fries, fried banana slices, pizza, crab and alot. I, in my opinion, love this place.

The food was not cooked properly. Their were multiple raw on the inside items, the fried rice crunchy and stale, the fruit was fresh looking but tasted like salt water (odd.)
