REVIEWS OF Spruce IN California

William Sauro

Solid, traditional fine dining. Tablecloths, carpeting, even salt and pepper on the table--things the trendy chef-centric flash-in-the-pan spots ignore. Great service. A beautiful space. Nice menu choices. Not inexpensive, but worth the investment.

Sean Lacey-King

Very nice upscale place, reservations are recommend

Bob Pieron

So good and worth every penny.

Stephanie Underwood

I completely had fun at this place, the food is remarkable, and also the washrooms were clean. It was a little chilly indoors, really was not the very best. The service is excellent too. I will certainly consider returning again if I get the opportunity. Me and also my friend got the salad and also we were not disappointed. My one pointer is to maintain the chilly outside. Cheers!

Spruce is owned by the same group that manages Mayfield Bakery and The Village Pub in Palo Alto. Expect similar style of food/decor and same level of service. FOOD/DRINKS: 5/5 We ordered burgers, steak, duck breast and dessert. Love their duck breast - better than the counterpart in Village Pub. But the beignets are to die for! Served with vanilla creme and chocolate sauce, the beignets are so fluffy and light, not too sweet, and just melt in your mouth. I could come back just for 'em beignets. SERVICE: 5/5 Very courteous. Definitely fine dining level. DECOR/LOCATION: 5/5 Spruce is located in Presidio Heights, a posh neighbourhood in San Francisco. Street parking only, but there are plenty of space. Plus the beautiful scenery and architecture mean you may want to take a walk around before or after meal.

Irina Nudelman

Super sleek, neighborhood favorite Gem. Coctails are Art form.

Kara R

The best burger in the city! The burger was so good that I was underwhelmed by the rest of the menu and the rest of the items are fairly expensive. The restaurant itself is definitely more formal with low lighting. Sitting in the bar would be my preferred option for next time.

Jean Paul Balajadia

Went there for a drink at the bar around 8:30 on a Thursday night after a school event for parents. The bar is small and crowds easily, but staff is nice and can get drinks out quickly; the full dinner menu is served in the bar; only real shortcoming is the crowded space in the bar area. I have eaten in the main dining room as well - great staff, prompt service and great food.

Melissa Li

Sat at the bar and had a great conversation with the bartender. He was very friendly and added to the experience of dining. The duck confit eggs Benedict blew my mind. It was crispy, flavorful, and went well with the hollandaise sauce and kale. The burger was also

Incredible everything... literally

Lu Ba

Very good service. But food is 1 star. 12 of us ordered the 14 days aged steak, none of us finished. Too dry, too old, not tasty at all. Disappointed !!!

Danial Lee

Good inner circumstance and luxurious mood. One thing is the female manager was not friendly while all the servers are opposite.

Vernon Brown

Always a great meal, tonight had the best salad and risotto..yummy

Michelle Myers Beare

My new favorite restaurant! Can't wait to go back.

George Montgomery

Took the wife here for a special lunch. Service was great and food was excellent. We will be coming back soon.

Joseph Blanchard

I dined at this fabulous restaurant with my nephew , the staff was amazing. We sat and ate at the bar which I was a little hesitant about but the head bartender/ mixologist took exceptionally good care of us. I'm not a drinker so when I inquired about non alcoholic beverages/ getting a root beer I discovered that they didn't have root beer. Well the bartender surprised me by having a member of staff go purchase me root beer, 2 mug root beers actually. To me that is fabulous thoughtful service! It goes without saying that the food/ our meals were delicious and the chef showed a playful creative side with several of the side dishes. Thank you to everyone at Spruce that made Oliver's and my evening out a wonderful memory...

Nick Nassiri

Excellent service, delicious food, and classy decor. As far as Michelin-rated restaurants go, this one is reasonably priced and seems to have availability without booking far in advance. My wife and I are repeat customers.

Ilya Kovalenko

When the food is a show! Superb presentation! Not as expensive as it sounds

The Best List Ever

Great Service I've Already Recommended My Friend For Their Great Wedding Service Nice Very Nice.

Peter Kowalsky

Nice widget!

Mitchell Lee

High-quality service in an upscale atmosphere with great food. It's definitely on the pricey side, but we enjoyed all of the dishes we got. The burger was especially good (and creative).

Wes Harris

I can only leave a review for the event side of the restaurant as I attended a holiday party here. Very well put together restaurant that took care of the group from hors d'oeuvres in the front room and then escorted us into one of the back rooms for our event. The staff was very friendly and the servers were professional. For a round table of 10, five servers would come out with the plates and serve them all at the same time. The food was on par with what you would expect with such a fine dining establishment. The atmosphere is elegant and dimly lit which made it very romantic for those I could see seated in the main dining area.

Evan Doyle

Great service (very friendly and personable) huge wine list and excellent cocktails, outstanding food. Get the duck.

May Bresler Herzog

As expected from a Michelin star restaurant - the dinner we had at Spruce was good, as was the service, with a few very pleasant surprises like a freebie soup to our friends while we were having our starters etc. The duck dish was the highlight of the evening for me, with a beautiful pistachios crust (though the parsnip-strawberry side was a little odd), and the tart we had was a nice, refreshing finish to a good meal.

SuperCar

ok

Mike Forbes

Great restaurant! Great cocktails, wine and spirits. Amazing food. Excellent atmosphere. Great recommendations by staff as well.

Peter Koscinski

Perfect atmosphere for dinner and/or drinks. Knowledgable, attentive staff and the lead sommelier was excellent!

Sheri Contreras

Nothing to complain about. Prices are reasonable.

Reggie Bryant

Last Saturday night I was lucky enough to snag a couple bar seats at 7:15pm. I literally thought it was going to be impossible but, the food gods were on our side that evening. My buddy and I decided to split a few items: the braised beef cheek and mascarpone tortellini, the halibut with potato, truffle, and finally the classic burger with blue cheese. Armed with our a la carte "tasting menu" we decided to pair some btg wines with the dishes and they were all amazing.

Shelbi Svoboda

I popped into Spruce to take a customer call and fell for their charcoal latte. A bit trendy for the sake of trendy but its tasty ($5, I went half sweet on the vanilla). The customer service and number of tables were both excellent. The WiFi was so so but more than enough for a call.

Hui Mao

Just average food, but the services are super good in my mind

Tim Martin

What an excellent dinner. Excellent friendly service. Expansive wine selection. Well proportioned meals and a fantastic atmosphere.

Gabriel Yusuf

Great place. Beautiful ambiance and great service. Our server remee was so helpful and well knowledgeable in the menu. He described our food so precisely that it felt like I was eating the words straight from his mouth.

Lori Hildler

Amazing food

Kate Hoffmann

Beautiful Chic Memorable excellent service delicious

Harold Worthington

Compares favorably to my favorite American fusion restaurant! Impeccable food and service. Not only was the meal amazing, staff kept adding little extras to keep you wanting more....I'm talking about warm cookies from the bakery...Amazing!!!

Paul Sullivan

Went here for an anniversary/ birthday dinner and it was amazing. The heirloom tomato salad was insanely delicious I have never tasted a better tomato. Also loved the corn soup and pear salad. Wasn't crazy about the duck dish personally but can see how a duck fan would dig it. Dessert was also amazing, pretty impressive dining experience overall. Our server was an awesome guy!

Nice Place I Love It

Susan Downey

Delicious food in a calm, relaxing atmosphere. No cell phone reception! Yeah! Good place to celebrate a special occasion

Jennifer Turner

Amazing service and very accommodating of food sensitivities. Great meal.

Edward Harper

Amazing menu with a sexy vibe. The wine list is ridiculous and everyone seems to be very intelligent about the food and wine.

Andre S

Nice cozy atmosphere, good service

Norrie Cavallero

This beautiful restaurant has the most fabulous service ... in addition to delicious menu. It is probably Mt favorite hamburger in SF — perfectly flavored meat with a house made English muffin bun that is literally the perfect bun and let’s not forget the thick cut tomatoes. Excellent wine list as well.

Beck Marquis

Handsome Companion and I had the pleasure of dining at Spruce with San Francisco-based family. We had a wonderful evening not only because the company was so enjoyable but also because Spruce was the perfect backdrop for such a special occasion.Spruce is a large restaurant with several different rooms. We sat in the main room, at the back, at a round table, which always makes conversation among six people so much easier. We had arrived early so the restaurant was still very quiet. And it managed to stay that way, even as more and more patrons arrived and the restaurant filled to capacity.

Kaureen Tralina

Spruce is a gem and holds a special place in my heart! This used to be my little best kept secret that i frequent on and its not any one particular dish but rather their entire package: - Atmosphere - Decor - Wine list (they have great selections of German riesling by glass) - Decent food & dessert selection - Service is always friendly - Beautiful people during happy hour! Not to mention i took my first love here nine years ago for our first date and the rest was history... So highly recommend as a dinner date spot for someone special!!

Heather Brooks

I enjoyed my Steak Tartare and The Spruce Burger as well as our conversation about Japanese Whisky, Vietnamese Food, Scandinavian Food, and some of our favorite restaurants in San Francisco.Lovely, upscale yet intimate place with a tad of neighborhood vibe to it - found it formal yet approachable at the same time for a Michelin restaurant.

Annie Lawrenson

The windows sparkled to greet us. Inside the restaurant was abuzz but enveloped in a wonderful soft hush as only a polished spot can do. A table opened thanks to Megan - lucky day. Oh, to slip into a luxurious clubby chair at Spruce…delicious even before the first bite. The ambiance and courses were on point per yooj, but on this visit it was our server or rather curator, Cassandra, who made the experience. At every turn, decisions were transformed into fun experiments - of which I suspect she already knew the outcome. We, the lucky beneficiaries, sampled our way from one delight to the next under her purview. Engaging and yet measured, she balanced when and how to guide us along. We left feeling as if we’d just popped into Piemonte for some truffle shavings on our farm fresh eggs while looping through a local distillery to have our martinis shaken. If only every work week could end this way…

Dan Rao

Fantastic service and amazing food! The duck does taste like steak, the (seasonal) tagliatelle noodle is absolutely the best!!!! The bread and dinner roll are addictive. We did not order any dessert, since we were too full. But we got bit-size tart and macaroon in house.

Julien Schléret

Very upscale indeed.. Nice atmosphere, food was good, wine list amazing but prices quite too high to enjoy good bottles..

Jimmy C

Have only been here for restaurant week and it never disappoints. Upscale and superb service. The duck confit was moist and crispy. The burger was cooked to perfection, the English muffin seemed a bit out of proportion to the hamburger Patty. My favorite was the cauliflower soup, I couldve had 5 bowls of that. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area.

Max Chung

Service is amazing here! Food was super duperlicious!

Carrie Brown

Dinner was perfection! Attendees we're on point, flowing around the table in an organized purposeful way. Restaurant did an excellent job of giving away just enough to make you feel a huge amount of value. The atmosphere feels like a swanky sophisticated neighborhood spot.

Jessica Tan

Our waiter was extremely friendly and kind. He was very attentive to my non-English speaking mom. Made our experience enjoyable.

Lauren

I've come twice for office holiday parties, and the group menus are delicious! Beautiful setting, and staff that goes above and beyond to cater to your every need.

Hector Mujica

The service wasn't at par with the expectation based on price. The food was also very underwhelming and mediocre for a Michelin star restaurant. We tried the burger, the duck and have tried the salmon in the past and have not been impressed.

liron nehmadi

The burger was ok. Nopa burgers are better

Moritz Welsch

Nice

Yoko Snell

Me and my friend had a great time there. Service is good. Foods are delicious. Definitely we will go back again.

Denise Dang

Food was good, but service was... SPECTACULAR. The staff were careful to note allergies, and picked up on the occasions we were celebrating. Favorite dish light be the charcuterie platter. Cocktails we're really good as well! We will definitely be coming back soon!

masayuki koroki

Foie gras pancake lunch.

Hazel Hinkson-Doyle

My fav burger joint with top shelf cocktails and service

Lorraine Davis

Lovely experience and staff was spectacular!!!

Miriam Taylor

We went with my family here regularly and we love it. This last time I didn’t the hamburger and is delicious my chin had a duck leg that he love. Was tender with a delicious flavor and juicy. The service here is phenomenal. The hamburger is one of the famous in San Francisco.

Tiffany Taylor

I've always been here for late night snacks and sat at the bar. The beignets are always a must-order. I had an amazing drink called the blue blazer a few years ago, and more recently I got to try the bar burger which was fantastic. Overall, I really enjoy this place. Also President Obama apparently ate here during his administration, so you can drop that trivia for bragging points.

Annie Leung

Have an amazing anniversary dinner here. We order both the duck breast and the aged new york steak. Both were deliously prepare. Services are excellent, from the host who help to sit us (they cannot found our booking) to the waiter who serve us. Everything is just wonderful!!

Stephen Morris

Food, service, wine, ambience , everything was great!

Eric Young

Great ambiance, and service. the burger was perfection. Unfortunately the other entrees were small and expensive.

Mary Ramirez

Elegant place for lunch. Beautiful decor, white table clothes, great service. Menu at brunch is small but there are some unusual choices and interesting combinations. Cinnamon roll for dessert served 3 and was perfect ly warm, gooey with cream cheese glaze and some crunchy edges.

Rick Jelmini

Waiters awsome. But management needs to realize that if you spill scalding hot soup in your lap and still charge full price, excessive, then maybe those customers will not come back. Nothing against the the ancillary care, management has only one thing in mind....profit. better places in sf for 4 to spend $600 plus bringing your own wine, just saying.

Lester John

Everything is good

Adam Rogal

Great birthday celebration here!

Brandy Shelton

Arrived at five, it wasn't busy. I will be back with my friends. The prices are well within reason for the quality. They have a lot of positive reviews for a reason.

Patrick Traughber

We stopped in for dessert and cocktails and they were excellent. The staff are very welcoming and knowledgeable.

Liam Lonsdale

Beautifully decorated. Excellent bar choice. Service was fast and pretty good. It’s a little over-priced for what is delivered, but really you’re paying for the ambience.

John Priest

Beautiful neighborhood restaurant with great food and professional service.

Allen Watson

Probably the best burger I have had. The bun is fresh and fluffy, meat delicious, they like to go crazy on the add ons, each one costs. I had it with the cheddar cheese, grilled onions and bacon. I don’t know how they prepare they fries but they are so good, crispy and soft insideZ perfect seasoning. Out of this world. Salad and soup were incredible too! Cocktails amazing. For the wine lovers, they have a huge selection!!

Henry Chan

Excellent service, staff and servers are well trained. Each entrees were well prepared and each has it own flavor. Snapper was delicious BUT too many bones for me

Techupwork

Hi this is Tech upwork

My First ever dining experience at a Michelin restaurant and my server Adrianne was absolutely fantastic! She Sold me on their signature dish the Duck and it was cooked brilliantly! Crispy and juicy such a proper dish. I have really no compliments from the cocktails, I had the strawberry blonde it was refreshing and light with a lingering essence of mint and lemon. Steak tartare started my meal light my sister had the kale Cesar. We finished our meal with the rice pudding and my opinion if you want a nice pallette cleanser with crunchy textures. I highly recommend! Thank you again to my Amazing server and the incredible hard working chefs. I'll be back

Richard Manso

One of the better restaurants in SF, over the top service, delicious food, great wine list and specialty cocktails. Great for dinner or drinks, their bar nibbles menu could be improved.

ObzedatM!ST!K

Spruce, although trying to be upscale, eloquent dining, fell short, and became overpriced and a tad pretentious. The food was adequate, but compared to how much they were, you're better off skipping this restaurant altogether, and going somewhere else. Especially in San Fransisco, where the restaurant industry is very competitive, Spruce 's bark was better than its "bites"

Justin Andrews

Everything here was excellent. The ambiance has a more modern feel to it. The Server was very friendly and recommended a very good wine. Most importantly the food was amazing and there was plenty of it. Normally with restaurants of this caliber the portions are very small and I go home hungry. Here they are on the smaller side as you would expect, but they throw in something in between every course so I was full before we event got to dessert. I would highly recommend.

Don Ray

Had a really nice dinner here. Service was outstanding and the food was delicious. I had the pistachio encrusted duck breast - highly recommend.

David Young

Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere, great server!!

John Newell

Just the most amazing tradie I have ever had work for us. Brilliant - highly recommended - yes - TRADIE.SITE ROCKS !!!!!

happiepickles99

Great staff fun menu finally pa!!!

Peter K

One of the most consistent dining experiences in sf. Great atmosphere, food, and service. We were here many times since having our wedding reception dinner here and always top notch.

Anthony Thomas

The good things in life really isn't expensive at all. It is what you make out of it. Good food, Good Music, Good People, and a Elegant Restaurant.

andy popovici

Wonderful hospitality, knowledgable sommelier, with a casual yet upscale experience. The food is great as others have stated, what made the experience truly memorable for us was the stellar service.

Shai Ghelberg

Great deserts, amazing selection of wine. Best service, and beautiful place. Pricey and fancy!

Eli Arieli

All the best for this website

Bastien Vogt

Great service and food!

Shweta Kumari

We went to Spruce after a day of sight seeing at SFO. I really don’t know why the place is rated so high. The food was average for the price. I did not like my halibut, my daughter did not like her burger and my husband said his burger was “ok”. We all liked one of the starters but that’s it. Even our cocktails were just average. Will never be being going there again.

Heather MOXON

Once of the best dinners of my life!

Rene Villa

Wonderful place for a special dinner, highly recommend it. I had the scallops for dinner, the best I've had .The beignets for dessert were also delicious. The only part of the meal that was just average was the salad, not much flavor in the dressing. The one thing that makes this restaurant stand out is the service, excellent.

Martin Michlmayr

Awesome restaurant, lovely ambiance, an impressive wine list, service that is first rate, high prices. We walked in on a weeknight, sat at a table for two in the bar, shared the burger (which was insanely good) and had a couple of glasses of wine. Our waiter was wonderful and we were in and out in around an hour and a little. The decor is splendid, sleek and spacious. Hostesses at front of house take coats and direct customers to tables, and the neighbourhood is tony.

Julie Parker

Wonderful atmosphere and service, great food

that Guy and french fries

The service was really good as well as the food, it is really expensive though

Justin Harbin

Delicious doesn't begin to say how great the food and service is.

pamela taylor

Excellent setting and service!

Orlando Louwes

Great service

Kevin Davidson

Love spruce classic restaurant service, great great food

Elisabetta Pianta

Good place, great drinks and food. Expensive but the place is very nice. I go back there often because I work close by but I would love a little less attitude from the people that work there.

Hector Castellanos

Treat employees pretty badly there seems to be a huge hierarchy where the employees who are considered better treat other employees poorly. My guess is that management isn't the best .

Fabien Curto Millet

Really great, smart restaurant. The food is delicious - their burgers really are as good as they are reputed to be. They also do take out in case you fancy that option. The dining room is lovely. This place is a great option at all times - weekend brunch or dinner. For whenever you want to had a slightly more special experience. Service is friendly and attentive.

Patrick Umphrey

Great food, cocktails and service

Christopher Grim

Delicious food, great service in a chic atmosphere!

Bruce G

Upscale and great atmosphere. However, usually packed with long wait times.

Paul Quinby

We gave Spruce a try for lunch and it was very good. The service is next level and the food was on point. I think what sets them apart and gives them that Michelin status is the superb wine list and the service that makes your experience go so smooth. I would love to come back and give dinner a try!

Oshyan Greene

Look, it's pricey, but the food is great, the staff is great, and the drinks are solid. Come for lunch, especially the rotating weekly harvest menu. It's a steal!

Barnett Brickner

Great atmosphere and quality food

Live Love Create

Incredible dining, everything we had was absolute perfection. Lovely atmosphere, just absolutely phenomenal! Best pork belly i've ever had, our server Remi was knowledgeable, friendly, fun, and just made the night! I recommend to everyone!

Ricky Wilson

LOVELY!! The services equals the food at this wonderful Preside Heights restaurant. Every dish is filled with explosive, creative flavors combined in often unique ways. I had the Kale Caesar Salad (and I don't particularly like Kale...) and it was wonderful. Soup was fantastic as was the hand-made brochette. We also tried the sausage and the Burger (yes, with a think slice of bacon.) All great.

Shane Rowan

Amazing. Expensive. Duck breast was a reach for me (not a duck person). Glad I did it.

nafeesa F

Great fine dining place in SF. I came here for a team dinner. Ordered cauliflower veloute soup and poached Alaskan halibut. The soup was good. The poached halibut was amazing. Everything of the halibut plate was great... fish well done with amazing flavors, the kind of boiled/ poached vegetables and the sauce. The seasoning was perfect... nothing overpowering but tasted great.

Alexsandra Cryon

I loved so much

Timothy Hansen

Wine list is the star. Food is excellent, too. Maybe not super exciting but we'll executed and delicious. The list is bonkers, though. Jamet Cote Rotie by the glass?

Manolo Gonzalez

Excellent service, great food

John Schamel

Very upscale restaurant. Felt underdressed even at lunch in my jeans and golf shirt. Food was good and service was even better. Great place for a date or to impress a client although just for a meal there are places with better food. Atmosphere is hard to match though.

Ilan .

I was surprised about how... approachable (for lack of a better word) Spruce is. It's a one-star Michelin restaurant, but the prices are not too intimidating. We spontaneously decided to visit the place with another couple and had no issues making a reservation on the same day. And it's not that the restaurant was empty - It was actually pretty full. I have to mention that the service, the staff, the presentation, and the vibe - Is just spot on, and yet, it's not as heavy or buttoned-up as a three-star restaurant might be. Great upscale experience and I enjoyed every part of. About the food - Everything was delicious. It's not the type of place when you not sure what part of what animal or a plant you are eating. It's excellent food, fresh ingredients, and good value for your money. Have fun!

renato rizzatti

Everything was going well until I needed to use their customer service. After a Saturday visit to the doctor to update my records to have access to flower in the end of July I went to my favorite dispensary on the end of the following week to buy flower. The salesman at the dispensary told me the Doctor did not fill out the correct field on the State of FL system and he could not sell me any flower, he instructed me to call Marijuana Dr. to ask them to fix the system. After leaving the dispensary I called Marijuana Dr. customer service and was told it was an easy fix, but the Doctor would have to do and promised the system updated by the following day. I week had passed and once again I tried to visit the dispensary with intention to by flower. Same thing happened, I was advised by the dispensary that the system was still wrong, and an update was needed. I called marijuana Dr. once again and heard the same thing, the system will be updated next day. This time I visited Marijuana Dr. more than a month later from last visit, guess what, same issue. I called marijuana Dr. customer service asking to speak with a supervisor. I told him the whole story, he apologized and asked me to wait in the dispensary for 15 minutes that he would solve my problem once for all. Guess what, after 45 minutes waiting no one called me back and I decided to called customer service once again asking to speak with the same supervisor. They put me on hold and after about 8 minutes waiting, I decided to call customer service again asking for the same supervisor. They told me they could reach out to the supervisor and noting would be done now and I should try again next day. Conclusion: more than 50 days after my visit to the Dr. I cannot get what I paid for. It’s clear that Marijuana Dr. doesn’t give a damn about its patients. Looking forward to renewing my card with a different Dr. Avoid these people, all they want is your money.

Hila Efrati

Best pancakes ever but the burger didn’t stand to expectations

emperatriz orta

Beautiful place, amazing food and very nice attention!!

Rachel Barbour

Spruce has great service and incredible food. It's a bit spendy ($$$), but the food and atmosphere are well worth it. I highly recommend the burger. And they have great cocktails as well. Feels "fancier" than most SF places so dress accordingly.

James Ratcliffe

One of the best dinners I've had in years. Incredibly high quality through and through. Not cheap by any means, but excellent.

Mark Lim

Came here with my colleagues for dinner, but other than the guy at the door, the servers were pretty darn snooty. Just because we were not dresses to the nines and had a large group, does not mean you should be looking down on us. If you can't accommodate our group, just tell us nicely.

Darlene Tenes

Went to San Francisco to escape the heatwave and had a wonderful birthday dinner at Spruce in Pacific Heights. Just as when entering a 5 star hotel you know you'll be having an exceptional dining experience when the staff is top notch and warmly welcome you in with VIP service. Kudos to Chef Mark Sullivan who choses each and every ingredient with loving care and creates comfort food at the highest level. Every morsel and bite was exquisite! Together with an elegant atmosphere, beautiful presentation and extra touches I could not recommend this little gem more for your next special occasion.

Nicole Menkhoff

Excellent food and drinks, just like their sister restaurant (The Village Pub).

Paul Le

Food was not exceptional (bone-in ribeye, charcuterie, beet salad, beignets, cookies and cream, and paris-brest) for the price point ($59 for halibut seems rather excessive) and service was uneven (delays in several rounds of drinks, forgotten sides, but presentation, warmth of service, and busing was excellent) but the ambiance and atmosphere had us there for 5 hours. A great meal, but compared to 5 star experiences like Peter Luger in Bklyn or Cochon in NOLA, I would not consider this a must visit for someone visiting from out of town.

Mark Tremel

Posh. White table cloths, chef on point menu, outstanding service and pleasant atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed the cocktails we had before dinner and the service was oh so attentive. We completely threw out the budget and ordered steaks from the maitre'd which is a huge treat. Dessert was sublime.

Victor C

Pretty good as far as high end dining goes. Nice ambiance and strong bar selection, however the cocktails are made with a bit too much ice (the tableside shaking does not help). Nice that they serve bar menu at the tables because the steak tar tar and burger are pretty good. Unfortunately at the last visit I ordered the poached lobster with squid ink pasta and it was mediocre at best. Not a lot of flavor and under seasoned, at $85 this was a major let down. The duck on the other hand was excellent , well cooked with a tasty pistachio crust. The potato soup also highly recommend.

Deji Gbotosho

Great website!

Manny Hernandez

Great food but ridiculously expensive.

Cindy Filiatrault

Four stars because dessert and service were excellent; the burgers and the duck were disappointing. So surprised, especially after the phenomenal little rolls, that the burger bun was meh. I'd recommend another minute on the grill for the patties, a beet or juniper chutney to bring some originality to the dressing, to make it the standout burger it claims to be. The duck was more purple than blue - a little sous vide before the crusting would have improved it. Maybe we're spoiled on duck in Quebec/ Montreal, and have had our expectations set too highly by Normand Laprise, Martin Picard and Dave McMillan + Fred Morin...

Jobie Low

We came to Spruce to celebrate an anniversary and the entire Spruce staff seemed like their mission was to make the restaurant a memorable evening. Daniel, our waiter,, was excellent in his knowledge of food and the menu. We started with complimentary Gougeres-mini cream puffs with gruyere cheese. No cream, just the pastry and cheese, a nice start to the meal. We ordered the kale Caesar salad and the summer melon bowl. The salad was tasty, nice and crunchy but the melon bowl was fantastic-5 different melons, a couple of balled cucumbers,, with 3 different types of basil and a yoghurt base.. It was so refreshing! Our entree was the NY steak and the Duck Breast. While the steak was delicious, the duck breast was phenomenal-the duck skin was rendered, with a honey glaze, coriander, and other spices to give the skin a flavor and texture to complement the melt-in-your-mouth breast. We also ordered the maitake mushrooms-never had these mushrooms before and with the meyer lemon and oil dressing they were tremendously tasty, great texture, couldn't stop eating them! Dessert was straightforward, kinda. We ordered the beignets-so wonderful on their own, but it came with chocolate or an anglaise sauces; we also got an anniversary platter with bite sized cake; and finally a sangria macaroon. Whoda thought we'd have a three-course dessert! It was our first time to Spruce and we definitely can't wait for a return trip! Everyone was so friendly, the service was attentive but not overbearing, from the busboys on up you can tell Spruce's mission is for the ultimate dining experience. Thanks for making our anniversary so special!

Andrew Johnson

One of the best dining experiences in SF. Thank you Justin for that last bottle of 2011 Serene.

Sam Solomon

Went for restaurant week lunch which ranged from good to very good. Plan to go back for the normal menu at some point. Sorta an odd building for a restaurant though.

Jen Kuhn

Very attentive staff. Food is a bit pricey.

Allyson Holt

Amazing brunch before Hamilton matinee! Great way to spend a Sunday!

Jen Chen

Was here for the burger during SF restaurant week. Did not disappoint!

Beam Me Up Kimmie

Spruce is a good restaurant...but not a great one. If $125 per person doesn't bother you, then go for it. If you want an amazing meal for that price, look elsewhere.

Julien Valentin

Great service (probably the best I ever had), atmosphere, and food presentation. Besides deserts, the food needs serious improvements in terms of taste. Several reds are also way below the bar for the price charged.

Michelle Tsudama

My husband and I had an excellent dinner here. We had the Bordeaux braised beef cheek tortellini, pistachio crusted dry aged duck breast, and Japanese oak-grilled brassicas. Everything was delicious with the duck being our absolute favourite. They also had a great wine list and friendly service. Highly recommend!

Are you looking for fine dinning in SF that not many people know about and tourists don't visit... you've found it. This restaurant is simple yet very chic and hasn't lost it's SF flare. I'd recommend this place for a special occasion or if you just feel like venturing out of the hustle and bustle of other more-crowded areas in the city. Laurel Heights is quiet and beautiful. The grilled Bavette steak was tasty but if you're feeling adventurous go for the Oxtail... superb.

Stop. Everyone knows how good it is. Amazing. Life changing. Server had an attitude and I didn't even care. I also didn't pay the bill...so take that with a grain of salt

Spruce is classic perfection. Impeccable service. New menu every day. Wine list to fire for.

Talk about a five star experience. This restaurant is out of this world amazing. It lives up to its Michelin Star rating. Phenomenal bar selection and bartenders. Strongly recommend if you are looking to take someone somewhere impressive.

Super dinner combined with incredible service. A must dine when in San Francisco

Dreadful. Event in private room had uninspiring food choices, wine that poorly matched, and the execution of the food was terrible. The halibut didn't have texture or flavour. The worst value meal I've experienced ever - $ 200 a head for a $45 meal

One of my favorite high end restaurants in SF, conveniently located 7 doors down from my work! The cafe is a great spot to grab a quick coffee or anything off the menu to go (although I wish the cafe would open up earlier than 11:30) The food is always dynamite, can't go wrong with the burger. The pastry chef is so talented, I've never met a dessert there I didn't LOVE. The full bar has a great selection of everything alcoholic. Great place for a date or special occasion. Don't forget to grab a chocolate chip cookie (the size of my face) on your way out.

Great food and service. All the food tasted excellent!

I love the caviar, spruce's burger is my favorite in SF, and put a foie gras on everything (on top of burger, steak, and waffles) thank you very much!

We chose Spruce to celebrate our wedding anniversary due to the number of great reviews on Opentable and based on the recommendation of my boss, who is very discerning when it comes to food quality. However, our experience turned out to be the total opposite to what I read in the reviews. I will even say that during the five years of living in San Francisco, this was the worst dining experience anywhere, from Michelin star restaurants to mom-and-pop hole in the wall places. First of all, the cocktails. You are paying $16 for watered down, poorly mixed something that resembles a cocktail. I tried two with the same poor mixing technique. 15 minutes after we received our drinks, a couple was seated next to our table and I overheard a guy saying to a server that he dined at Spruce just last week. Within a few minutes, that table got bread while we were still waiting for ours. The bread guy passed our table and went elsewhere. I was appalled by that. Then a few minutes later, that table got our appetizers while we were still waiting for bread. The guy made the server open the dish with mussels, sniffed the plate and sent it back since they did not order it. We were watching closely what's happening and I told my husband, "I bet they will bring those mussels to us in a couple of minutes." Sure enough they did. That same guy at the table next to ours turned to us and said, "This is completely wrong and inappropriate what they just did. They brought you the rejected/opened dish. In the State of California, it's a code violation. I am a restaurant owner myself and I am shocked by such terrible service: they served us bread first when you were clearly here much longer than we were, then brought us your appetizers and are now serving you our rejected dish." We sent the mussels back only to receive that same dish a few minutes later with rearranged bread on top. My husband decided to eat it because at that point we were extremely hungry. But the mussels were super tiny, dry and had sticky sauce, which only meant that they were not cooked, but premade and later reheated. Which is unacceptable at almost $30 for an appetizer. When we were asked about the appetizers, I mentioned to our server that I was not happy with their quality. He said nothing in return, but later brought us "complimentary" pasta dish with truffles to make up for the earlier snafu, only to charge for it later on our final bill. Needless to say, my evening was ruined and I could not wait to get out. We quickly swallowed our entrees and asked for a check. They did bring us a complimentary celebratory piece of pie/cake, but it was stale and inedible adding more insult to an injury. All in all, this insulting experience ruined our anniversary. I don't understand why compared to others we were treated like second class citizens. I wonder if they treat all first time diners like this or only the ones who do not carry a Chanel bag.

One of the best restaurants in San Francisco, full stop.
