I stay at the Ocean Beach Hotel right across the street and in a 3 dat span of a trip we eat here at least once a day! I love the views too!

Went on a 4-4-19 for lunch, not busy at all. Tacos were 1/2 off for Taco Thursday and tasted great. Our group of 7 tried a little of everything and weren't disappointed with anything. Cool atmosphere, great service. Just go in knowing that you have to place your food order at the bar and you'll have no surprises!

You can't beat the fresh seafood here. There's always a beer and food item on special. Sit upstairs and enjoy a nice view of both the ocean and the street. Oven Beach is a great place to people watch :) Staff here is super friendly, as are the customers. Very laid back local seafood restaurant/pub.

This place fell off a little in 2015-18 but I think it’s making a good come back. It needs to bring back their steamer bowls (mussels & clams) to be the power house it once was. But it’s got great drink specials and there fish tacos are above average in for San Diego.

Great bar and fantastic fresh food. The fish and chips are worth a visit alone. Easy access for wheelchair users, thought I didn't check the restrooms. Plenty of tables and both tall and normal height. Noise level not to bad for lunch and the staff were very helpful and accommodating.

Always a Great Experience. I love their grilled mahi tacos and the great beer selection. They also have great Happy Hour and Taco Tuesday specials.The day bartender, a young man, is always very friendly and kind and remembers us when we come in. They dont have servers, you order at the bar and a food runner brings your food to your table. We usually sit at the bar so it's never an issue and even when we sit at a table, someone usually stops by to check on us, anyway. I've been going to this spot for 13 years, and hope to go there for 13 more!

There must be new management or a loss of being in touch with what used to work; the golden rule of "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" is seemingly gone. Too bad!! I used to advocate the shrimp tacos, the Baja tacos... best in town. Now, nope!!! Shrimp is smaller, sauce is excessive and food comes out cold. They seem to have lost balance. I hope they recover somehow; they have great beer taps, a great view of the beach and handsome prospects to get back in shape. Courage!!

Loved the location, loved the food, but service sucks even when not busy. Not many people there, sitting at the bar, had to flag our guy down to get another round of drinks and remind him what we were drinking. He was visiting with locals. Had to self serve water twice with our habanero mango salsa. Yumm

If you like fish tacos this is the spot for you. Their tacos are delicious and priced cheap for the amount of meat they serve in them. The views of OB are great from here. It a cool place to watch the sunset or have a cheap date.

the food is good but they seem stuck between a rock and a hard place with their format. Table service or no table service? Tip or not? This makes it very confusing to the patrons. Sometimes the upstairs is the only place you can get served and the downstairs is closed. It's a shame because it is a great location and they could be doing much more business if committed to running it as a full service bar and restaurant.

We arrived in San Diego and checked this place out following a recommendation from our Air BnB hosts. We had 2 for 1 Margaritas (ridiculously easy to drink and packed a punch) and the fish tacos. Would definitely recommend, the service and food were both brilliant with a relaxed atmosphere.

TD;LR it was edible but nowhere near lives up to the hype. Skip it unless you're looking for a place to drink until you don't care how the food tastes. It was fine but nothing special. The website makes this seem like an interesting restaurant, but it's really nothing more than a dive bar. The food sounds unique but in reality tastes bland. We got chowder fries and Baja, calamari, and mahi tacos. The tacos were VERY disappointing. Big pieces of fish, but ours either had raw batter or were cold upon arrival. And because of the way service is set up, no server comes by to check on you, so if there's something wrong with the food you have to go wait in the "order" line and tell someone. I can't stress enough that the food was fine, but very bland. It was good enough to (almost) finish eating but I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend. The only reason it has two stars is that the drinks were great, and there was no hair in any of the food. S/O to the couple who gave us their order of chips that arrived to their table as they were leaving. It was the best part of the entire experience.

Haven't been there in a while but I know there's at least one day a week they have a special on their fish tacos. And there is a nice selection of fish to choose from. I've had tuna, shrimp, snapper,, and they were all very tasty. I recommend if the opportunity presents itself.

Good food (what came anyway), but the service and customer service has really gone down hill. Out of our table of 7 people, 5 things that we ordered were missing, 1 person did not get the meal they ordered at all, 1 person didn't get the shots they ordered, etc. The food also arrived very sporadically and far apart even though it was all ordered at the same time. Very disorganized, not sure if it's a staffing issue or what, but the only reason to return is for the fish tacos, which I'm not sure is worth the hassle.

Five stars from my heart! A must visit when we come to San Diego. The view from second story is pure California (ocean, beach, pier, surfers...). Food is good...best fish tacos in town! Bathrooms are very nice. Lots of "earthy" (homeless) hanging out near the beach, and Ocean Beach has seen its newer days, BUT don't be dissuaded from trying this place out.

The wait staff was amazing though and very on top of it. The only dissatisfaction we had was the food took too long to be ready and we had to take it to go!

Really busy. Long wait. We went there the day if the OB street fair, so it was probably busier than usual. I thought they could have had some more people on staff that day knowing it would be a busy day. We had a nice waitress, but she was so busy it took her forever to get to us and take our order and even longer to get the food and drinks we ordered. The Paloma drink is delicious. Perfect for a hot day. The restaurant/bar gives an amazing view of the pier and the ocean.

My boyfriend remembered this place fondly from when he lived in the area 10 years ago so we had to come visit while we were in town last week. They still have cheap beer ($9 pitcher of the beer of the day, plus $3 shots of good quality alcohol) and delicious affordable fish tacos. The tacos are large (not street tacos) and they come with rice and beans on the side so they really feel like a meal. I'm usually skeptical of corn tortillas because so many will get wet and fall apart while you're eating, so we ordered some tacos with corn and some with flour, but these were really substantial and held together so if I came back I would order all corn. They say their mahi mahi is "world famous" and it was definitely really tasty, but if I came back I'd just order a pair of lobster tacos; $6 something each and sooooo much lobster on each one!

Could possibly be some of the best tacos in town. Super great view of the pier and the ocean and overlooking the beach of ocean beach. Lots of choices on the menu. Everything seems pretty healthy. It was crowded even for a Wednesday night. Service was a little lagging but the great tasting food made up for it. Lots of nice people are there and are very friendly.

Staff is amazing..it is order at the bar but the guy we saw when we came in helped us put the tables together and took our orders...the food wow I can't tell you the last time I have been at a restaurant and everything I had was delicious!!! The food was good fried food in very large portions. The staff was friendly but the way the business is set up is a bit of a pain. Since you order at the bar, no one checks back and if you need something else (ketchup, more fries) you have to get back in line leaving your food to cool and your companion sitting alone. Probably better on other evenings but Friday the waits were long.

South Beach makes my favorite taco. Not only are they notorious for the town’s top fish T, they stuff the royal hell out of one that I drive across town for: fried oyster taco. Nothing polite about eating this ultimate indulgence, but it is not unhealthy, with all that cabbage slaw, properly dressed in a drippy white sauce. Sit upstairs for the views; downstairs is for families.

I ordered the fish and chips- it was pretty good! Loved the view from inside. It was a bit rainy the day we stopped by, so I'm super glad we were able to still get an ocean view from inside. It is a little weird that you place your order at a makeshift counter instead of a waitress taking your order. What makes it a little odd is that you're asked to tip when paying before you've received your food. I did deduct one star as two people at my table ordered the same dish with different sides and the main dish appeared and tasted different. I think they might have messed up and sent the wrong dish out. Overall was a quick and delicious lunch. Would definitely go back next time I'm in town.

It was obvious that minimal effort was put into many things, for example, we received less drinks than we were supposed to have and we received a burger with a half avocado instead of it being sliced. We had to specifically ask for water refills. Wait staff were friendly

My avocado burger was fantastic after they remade it fast for me. Beautiful views of Ocean and the town. You go up and order when you walk in that's a little disorganized upstairs, find a seat and wait for your food. Had a great time and employees were helpful.
