I came down from SF to try this BBQ. Although it was good, I couldn't say it was great. The one thing that did stick out was the ambiance. Its got a great welcoming atmosphere with plenty of seating but they do not have any bar seating for singles. I went with the brisket and mac 'n cheese which was a bit dry and it didn't have the depth of bbq flavor one would come to expect. The sauce selection was great with all the different styles of sauces. Overall I think its worth a try but don't expect it to take you back to KC or Texas.

This is the best BBQ in San Jose hands down. Everything I've tried on the menu I like, especially the burnt ends and the brisket. The appetizers are the real winners, I suggest the Wolf Turds or the Chicken Lollipops, those items are both worth the trip themselves!

This place offers good barbecue but it could be better. They have a good variety of meat. I opted for the 3 meat combo (Hot links, brisket & spare ribs) with corn bread and fries. Also shared the macaroni and cheese. The macaroni were pretty good. The hot links were good. The fries were not great, they didn't feel fresh and hot. The corn bread was actually good. The ribs were good. The brisket. The brisket started pretty good. The first two slices were very delicious but the last two were extremely salty. They liked the brisket for me.

Great casual BBQ place in downtown SJ! Visited for the first time on 3-17-19 a Sunday afternoon and loved the food! I had the brisket plate with potato salad. Yum! Took home half my plate to save room for dessert. Went with the peach cobbler, but it was just okay. Canned peaches and something acidic tasting about the top/cake part. I'll definitely go back for the food, but will likely skip dessert next time. Staff was friendly and attentive, seriously no complaints. Met a tinder date there and was instantly comfortable as there were a lot fo families there. Parking lot to the side, but looks like it could fill up quick. Street parking also available. They take credit cards and didn't bat an eyelash when we split our check with two cards.

The original location, with a couple other locations scattered across the south bay. The food is exactly what you need to fix that bbq craving you have. Brisket in the fatty cut is the way to go and the ribs will top you off. The mac and cheese, potato salad, and baked beans are hands down the best sides. Parking can be a little hard during peak hours. Enjoy

This my go to place for a good BBQ. There is no place compared to this place. Their brunt ends is one of the best I've ever had. I like ordering their moist brisket. Due to the fat content of their brisket it's nice and tender. If you can't make up your mind then try their sampler. You can pick 3 items and give it a try for yourself. My husband and I went here after looking at the reviews people had posted and I must say, it was better than we had expected! The place has a very casual vibe to it, the staff is extremely friendly and respond very quickly to ay of your requests. The insides are very comfortable and the atmosphere is very relaxed! Coming to the food, they have four different type of bbq sauce on each table to accompany your food! I had ordered their Pulled Chicken Sammy, the chicken was very soft and the bun was commendable! There was Mac and Cheese on the side. My husband tried their Seven Months Brisket(he ended up eating more than he should have!) and the potato grenade(the grenade is not less than a real grenade-it is potato filled with mac and cheese and wrapped with bacon

Strong contender for best BBQ I've ever had. We had burnt ends, beans, cornbread, and Mac n cheese. The sauce is a perfect balance; allowing the flavor of the meat to shine through while brining its own flavors to the party. Phenomenal.

This place was okay, I had the lunch special of the day which was BBQ tip nuggets and some potato salad. The nuggets were pretty dry and the potato salad was just okay. You get to choose your own barbecue sauce which was good. Maybe I should have tried something else, but just to be fair, I had the special of the day. I will try it again, next time trying the brisket or the ribs, but from what I had, it was not that great.

Excellent brisket, up there with the best. Ribs are meaty and tender. The four sauces at the table are varied and tasty. (I’d recommend ordering meats without added sauce so you can add your own.) Fries and cornbread are so-so, beans and greens are better choices. Great table service. I’d give it five stars if it weren’t for the absolute dump of a bathroom.

I love BBQ, and this is one of the best in San Jose. The parking lot is small, and this place is busy, so prepare to either come early before the lunch rush or just have it delivered to your place. I'm more of seasoned meat kind of person, so I don't really use the sauces that comes with the meals and so I can say the food tastes good without these (again just my opinion regarding the sauce).

Everything was GREAT. We ordered pulled pork, burnt ends, chicken thigh, & the mac & cheese. My husband kept saying how great the burnt ends were every time he took a bite, the pork & chicken were smokey & delicious, the mac & cheese was creamy with just a little kick to it. The cornbread that came with it all was moist & delightful. Probably the best barbeque we've ever had

I have not visited this place in years. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Paul's 7- month brisket had no bbq smokey flavor, cornbread was not hot, the bbq sauce had no flavor with a weird consistency, but the beans taste good. This was my 1st time experiencing this so I will try them again The customer service on the phone and at the counter was excellent. The menu online has changed. I hope there is not a new owner at this location.

Honestly, I think the baked beans pushed me to 5 stars. Simply perfect. Sweet and savory. I was at 4.5 for the meat. I think I prefer a little deeper smoke flavor in my ribs and brisket. However, they were slow cooked perfectly, plenty of texture but come off the bone with ease. If you order a side of french fries, I highly recommend them with the Cajun seasoning. I can't wait for my next trip to San Jose

Rally nice people, okay interior and decor. Great food with good portions. The smoke flavor was a little intense relative to the tenderness of the meat. Of course that's compared to Texas BBQ so it's slightly an unfair comparison. Would go back!

I'm a bit shocked at the overall ratings for this place. I thought I would be visiting a prime smokehouse based off the average reviews. On the positive side the service was better than average and they have a decent beer selection. The cons - they had 4 bbq sauce options on the table, flavors were pretty good, but the actual sauce containers were filthy. Those need to be cleaned up. The pulled pork tasted like it was rinsed off in water before sending it out to me. No smoke or any spices were strong enough to break through the tap water taste. The rib flavor was pretty good, a rogue burnt end actually made it on my plate, that was the best thing I ate there, so if you go, get the burnt ends. The meat was on the dry, tough side. I prefer my rib meat fall off the bone tender. I got a 50/50 fat/lean serving of the brisket. Should have went all fatty brisket. It was about as moist as the lean brisket at most other places, the lean slices were so dry I couldn't eat them. Cornbread and potato salad sides were pretty good, potatoe salad needed a hearty dose of seasoning. Last place I visited before leaving was the washroom. That place was disgusting, I ate lunch around noon on a Sunday, by the looks of it that washroom hadn't been properly cleaned since the previous Sunday. Can't recommend a visit to this place based on my experience.

10/10 will recommend ! It might be a little out of the way but this is just one of those places YOU HAVE TO VISIT! The ribs were fall off the bone good! The brisket was perfection AND THE SAUCE?! Ended up taking a bottle to bring home of the Carolina sassy, it was delicious!

I was at this location today and i had a bad experience with them. This guys should work a lot on their sides and they have to practice to serve their guests for sure. I ordered some smoked ribs with white rice and mashed potato. The server bring to me the plate, but don’t bring with him the fork and knife and after that never come back to ask me if i’m doing good. So i ate my ribs with my fingers.... the only thing why i put them 2 stars is because the ribs was really good. The restroom was dirty. Never will come back and don’t recommend anybody to try this place. This place is overrated for sure!

If you're looking for the best BBQ, then this is the place. My wife and I are always looking for good BBQ, and we've found it. The portions are good, and I can recommend the Mac and cheese as a side. We are now going to be regular customer of of this restaurant.

To start with the smack you in the mouth winner of the evening and your tip for the visit - Order the burnt ends! I don’t know what they put in these, but it may be illegal - We ordered them as an appetizer and they were so good we ordered a second set! The place is very unassuming- a lot like many of the legit Midwest spots. Take out or eat in options- we chose to hang for a bit to really take the place in. The first thing I loved here was the eclectic mix of people, ranging from big dudes and ladies in cutoff shirts to a dude in a suit... and everyone left licking their fingers! The beer list was quite impressive for a spot this size- good variety of classics with a good splash of local flavor! We had a couple beers from Russian River - A Pliny the Elder and a Blind Pig - both tough to find beers that we enjoyed in bottles during our meatstravaganza! Three of us shared a couple 3 meat plates - ribs, brisket, hot links and more burnt ends along with cornbread, potato salad and Mac-N-Cheese. Another tip, get the Mac-N-Cheese. It was slightly barbecuey with a lot of dairy - stamped - best I’ve had in a long while! The meats were all solid with the burnt ends taking the gold, followed by the brisket. I seriously can say enough about these ends! Char - Smokey - crunchy - a little sweet - Seriously good! If you’re in the area, you should plan to stop here. The folks are friendly, it’s left coast chill inside (East coasters read: Low Key) and served up the favorite BBQ we’ve had on this coast. Try it and experience the magic yourself!

We stopped in late on a Thursday night and found the place to be packed. That's usually a good sign for any restaurant that you're headed to! We got seated after a couple minutes in a sweet corner booth. The beers are bottled but they did have some unique so actions in addition to some of the usual suspects. We also started off with some of the burnt ends. I eat a lot of barbecue and these are honestly probably the most delicious thing I've ever eaten. They also had about 6 different barbecue sauces that you can try with your meats. I found a couple of them to be exceptional! Our crew wasnt crazy hungry so we ordered couple of the 3 meat combos to split between us. We decided to pony up a few extra bucks and upgrade to the burnt ends In the meal. The appetizer so good that we couldn't resist! In addition, we ordered ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and turkey. For sides, we ordered the potato salad, Mac and cheese, and fries. The Mac and cheese is good but none of the sides really stood out.....but the barbecue is phenomenal. Again, the burnt ends are unreal. Spend the money and try these things! All the other barbecue as 1st class so you really can't go wrong here. If you've been thinking about stopping in, do it. You won't regret it!

This place knows BBQ. First time I went I got the Smoking pig burger with Mac n cheese and coleslaw. When I got home I realized I got potato salad instead of coleslaw :( but it was still good. Since everything was so darn good I went back a few days later and got the pulled pork burger with the Mac n cheese and coleslaw. I mentioned the mix up with the potato salad and coleslaw even though it didn't bother me. They promptly took the coleslaw off my bill even though I didn't mind. Great staff. Great place. Great food.

So I'm working in San Jose for Sprint and corresponding with city inspectors. They pointed me in the direction of Smoking Pigs and I'm really glad I stopped. I'm originally from Kansas City and anyone that has been there knows it's hard to beat K.C. BBQ......Well Smoking Pig hits it on the head and they even carry a sauce that's KCK inspired!! If you are in the area make sure to stop by and check em out!! The 7 month brisket is off the hook!!!

Despite being packed for lunch, the place wasn't too noisy, and you could talk to others without shouting. I wish they would have more branches in other parts of the Bay Area.

Overall it was okay BBQ. The best thing I had was the cornbread. I ordered the 3 piece meat with a side of french fries. I got the chicken, pulled it pork, and the brisket. The meat was very tender, but lacked seasoning to be honest. I dont thi bbn I I'd try it again, I've had better bbq other places.

I ordered the 3 meat combo and appetizers so I could taste a sample of each offering. Combined with the right BBQ sauce (choice of 4-5), absolutely delicious. But the standout, got to get some more, item is the smoked brisket. I could literally cut it with my fork. Exceptional taste and texture.

Really good BBQ. I grew up in the Bay Area but have lived in Texas for the last 11 years. They pride themselves here on their BBQ and I can honestly say Smoking Pig BBQ is just as good, if not better then most of the BBQ I’ve had in Texas. Meat was really moist and flavorful and the sides were killer. Highly recommend.

Two of us were greeted by an exuberant server and quickly seated. Drinks promptly came once ordered. Wife ordered pulled pork with cornbread and side of coleslaw. I ordered the brisket with side of mac and cheese. Server explained their 4 sauce offerings. Food was tasty. Really didn't need a sauce as meats were flavorful and moist on their own. The cornbread was very good...moist with bits of corn. Did not fall apart. Cinnamon butter was offered to spread on the bread. Ended dinner with a shared key lime pie which was uniquely served in a half pint jar. Good flavor and Graham cracker base. Must be a local "go to spot" as people kept coming in for dinner.

Ordered 3 meats - regular pulled pork, half rack of ribs, and lean and fatty brisket. The brisket was so delicious - tender, juicy, and savoury. The ribs were also extremely tender, with a large amount of meat, and nothing under or over cooked. The pulled pork was a good quantity too, but didn't compare to the former two. If I were to reorder, I would get 2 portions of the brisket and 1 rib! We got the mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, and BBQ beans as sides. Mac and cheese was cheesy and salty, the mashed potatoes texture and taste were really nice, but the beans were kind of too ordinary. Service was good, and there are 4 sauces on the side which may compliment your meal. I could come back.

One of the better BBQ spots I've had in the Bay Area! Definitely try the burnt ends if they have it - super flavorful and juicy. All the sauces they had were good but I wish they had one that's more spicy. Also parking sucks, it's a small lot so either wait or look for street parking.

The adage, “ Don’t judge a book buy its cover.” Is true about this place. Not the shiniest place on the outside but it’s all about the food here. We had a group of six of us, and everything we had was the bomb. I would highly recommend this be one of your stops around here! I did not regret coming here. This is one of our favorite BBQ places in the area. They have a great selection on the menu, and all of them are good. My personal favorites are the ribs and pulled pork. Definitely pick the cornbread over anything and drizzle it with honey to make the already awesome masterpiece even better!

Everything at Smoking Pig is delicious. We get a chicken salad and burnt ends every time we go. Food is always prepared nicely and very filling. Some may think it’s a little pricey but it is worth it.

If you can't make a burger and fries, get out of the restaurant business. Burger was not seasoned at all and had no distinguishable taste. It was super overcooked, which I'm kind of thankful for now because hopefully there's less chance of me getting sick. The 'fries' were a soggy clump of potato-like mass that may as well have been boiled in dishwater. The staff forgot about my takeout order. I had to prompt a couple times until they finally just pulled it off some random unwarmed shelf, offering no apology. 4th Street San Jose location.

This place is WAY TOO OVERRATED. I came here thinking I would receive great food and I was extremely let down. I ordered the Angus burger with fries and an apple juice. For one, my apple juice took a long time to arrive and for some reason it was freaking warm. Once my food arrived, the burger party slipped out of it's buns and simply fell apart. It tasted a little undercooked but I suppose that part's okay. I'm glad I got alot of fries even though half of them were very small and burnt. The service is pretty okay too but honestly, I will never come back

When one location had an issue, they switched us to their other location, which promptly honored our large group reservation. We were seated within minutes, and our server, Haley, was amazing! To top it off, it was father's day, so it was busy, but we had the best service and some of the best BBQ we've ever eaten! Definitely will be visiting again!! No need to repeat what others have already mentioned. Don’t look for shiny and new. This is a locals family restaurant. Parking is very limited.Restrooms could use an upgrade. If you are near the airport,it’s only a few minutes away.

Overall a very good experience at this restaurant. I really was impressed by the brisket, which I found to be extremely tender and quite flavorful. The chicken was also very good and had a very wonderful Smoky flavor. I would definitely recommend this place to any fans of barbecue.

Great BBQ, and this is coming from someone who lives in Tulsa and KC, which has some of the best. I had the ribs and brisket with beans and corn bread. I will definitely be coming back everytime I fly from San Jose. The BBQ sauces are all very good, partial to the Classic Sauce. Unfortunately they were out of the hot links, so guess I just have to come back!

The best BBQ place I have been in the Bay Area. The pulled pork sandwich was perfect. The potato salad was great, and the beans were yummy. We also had ribs and cornbread both which were cooked perfectly. I would recommend this place.

Holy smokes, this is one of the best BBQ joints around, that's just my opinion, yours might differ, either way you should try it. SP BBQ has a variety of their own sauces on every table along with the almighty paper towel holder, great idea guys. The parking lot is kind of small so get there before the afternoon/evening rush.

The burnt ends take me right back to my favorite bbq joint in KC! I haven't found anything quite as good in YEARS. Well done Smoking Pig! Folks, do yourself a favor and get the burnt ends as they are coming right out of the oven - they are like carmelized pockets of heaven. Our next favorites were the ribs, and those were out of this world as well. My bbq loving heart was so pleased. I wasn't as keen on the brisket, and least of all the pulled pork.

If you love BBQ, then this is your place. I am always happy when I visit and I am a meat lover. The meat is always tender and my favorite are the ribs. For a change you can order 2 or 3 different meats. So come with a group of friends as I do so that you can order many different dishes and you can share some. For drinks try the Raspberry Tea.

Definitely one of the best southern BBQ joints near DTSJ. I always go for the 2 meat combo which is really fulfilling for one. The ribs and the beef briskets are the die-for. The homemade Mac n cheese is a must try if it’s your first time. The cheese is extra creamy and goes well with the meat too. What I really like about this place is the 4 different sauces they offer. The Kansas City hot sauce is just off the hook. I’ve been coming here for years and I will always be back for more.

Smoking Pig BBQ is a great place to eat alone or with a very small group, though not with many more than five or six people. It gets a little cramped. With that said, I adore the atmosphere, the delicious food, and the really wonderful staff. They seem to know everything about the food, and make some of the best original drinks this side of town. This is where I often take my out-of-town guests - I'd definitely recommend it.

Really good BBQ. Light smoke flavor. Nice rub. Ribs were outstanding. Brisket excellent. The chicken had a couple of dry spots. Otherwise, tender. The meat does not require sauce. If you choose to use the sauce. Try the original flavor. I will be back.

Stopped by for dinner and had a wonderful meal. The barbecue is fantastic and I really liked the California honey barbecue sauce. Also really enjoyed the cornbread and the mac and cheese was okay. The service was very friendly and helpful and I appreciated the beer recommendation the young lady made. I would totally go there again!

This place was okay. Ordered the pulled pork, ribs and brisket and I'd only recommend the brisket. There were a variety of sauces though. All and different levels of hotness to them. We got it to go, but there was plenty of space for inside dining. Be careful if you dont park in their lot as there are many restrictions by nearby businesses

The service was fast and friendly. However, for the price of the 2 meat combo, while tasting smoky and tender, the portions were disappointing. I got 2 ribs and 2 - 4 skinny pieces of brisket. My boyfriend picked the 3 meat combo and still only got two ribs. We both chose the "Southern Collards" for the side. Boiled down tasteless bacon with undercooked kale with a minimal bit of collards is not southern! But the biggest subpar item was their peach cobbler. Under seasoned cake-like dough with unsweetened canned peaches folded in. No sugar, butter, nutmeg or cinnamon.They couldn't be bothered to even use frozen peaches. I doubt if I will return.

First of all they had no strawberry lemonade, but they had raspberry and mango. Service was really fast although the food seemed like leftovers. Small, dry, and tasteless portions from the 3 meat combo. The brisket was mostly fat. And the two pink ribs. The cornbread was about the only thing that filled me. It took us like 5 minutes to get the waiters attention just to get bbq sauce half way through the meal. The chicken drumsticks were overpriced and really small. First time coming here, I was really disappointed. To be honest my family was still hungry when we left. Sorry but never coming back.

This pricey barbecue place is absolutely delicious, just be ready to drop some cash on a well worth it meal. The total for a meal for three people was $80 including tip. The barbecue sauce is impecable- the perfect mixture of tangy, savory, and spicy flavor. The meat falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. The whole restaurant had a mom and pop restaurant vibe. I believe this may be the best BBQ place I have ever been to. If you are in the Bay Area and are looking for a taste bbq meal, check out this place.
