Love this place! Staff is awesome! The amount of food you get for the price is awesome! Been going here for years! Not many Mom & Pop's places out there anymore, which makes it even more special!

CrackedRibs MistressMarlowe

Their pies are amazing and their dinners are cheap. You can get a chicken pie with mashed potatos, veggies, a dinner roll and a slice of pie for only 10 dollars. The service is amazing as well, they have always been great and they never mess up orders. I love this place, highly recommend it.

Jessica Parish

Make sure you are hungry when you come here!!! Love this place - it's like going to grandma's for dinner. My family has been coming here for 4 generations now! You can't go wrong with the Pie Dinner! But they have some of the BEST FRESH fried chicken (it takes about 20 min though) I've enjoyed watching the updates it's gone through and it keeps getting better and better!

Neil Tantay

If you love chicken pot pies then his place is highly recommended! I also recommend the neighborhood grind special. It is totally worth the price, comes with a pot pie, eggs, sausage or bacon and hash browns. Will definitely return for more.

Thomas Maldonado

Great place for an easy meal. The chicken pie meal is always a hit.

Brian Baber

I love this place. Decently priced for amazing food. Its got a southern grandmas flare to it.

Ronald Whittington

The world famous Chicken Pie Shop. Ate here 4 times in one week, and so did my very choosy parents, that speaks volumes. A full course meal, soda, and a price that will make you smile as much as the food does. Stop here and eat well, the food is perfect!

Michael Harkiewicz

Delicious food, great prices and awesome friendly people!

Kahleia Dillon

good home cooking, reasonable prices and now they do take credit cards. One of the very oldest restaurants in San Diego. We meet with a group of 10 there, it worked. big enough selection we all had a choice of food. I had Mac and Cheese. Not the best i've ever had, but not bad.

John H

Awful - I'd recommend buying Marie Callendar's frozen chicken pie over this any day.

Gabriel Ibarra

Great home style cooking. Reasonably priced. Experienced service.

BJ Kean

Great home cooking in general. Haven't been here in decades. Not positive, but the chicken in the pot pie tasted like it was from a can and not fresh. The crust was excellent! Did not get soggy when they put gravy over it. Tasted fresh and was quite crunchy. Mashed potatoes and gravy were quite good too. Had a blueberry pie slice for dessert, which was quite good. Flaky crust and lots of filling.

Steven F

Good food, great service in a relaxing atmosphere. You just got to love it. I can't wait to go back again.

Ileana Prado

Food was flavorless. Ordered chicken pot pie, eggs hash browns. Hash browns were raw and greasy. Pot pie is different.

Joaquín

Delicious food and awesome staff.

Robin Sharp

Excellent place for quality chicken. i wanted to post a food pic but it looked so good i couldn't stop. looking forward to a return visit. food is like a restaurant in louisville i liked.

Tempie Forosan

The food was very fresh. The pie was amazing.

Cheryl Gibson

This place was established in 1938. There are employees that have been in place over 30 years. If you want a home cooked meal at reasonable prices check this place out. Their specialty is the chicken pot pies but they have other good meals such as brisket, spaghetti, and fried chicken. Recently they started serving beer and wine. With a meal you get soup, salad, homemade biscuits, and a slice of homemade pie. Nothing fancy just good homemade meals. Used to be cash only but they accept debit and credit cards. If you like the chicken pop pies you can get cooked or frozen to go. You can't beat their prices but don't expect anything fancy just plain good old fashioned food.

Gayle Jordan

The chicken pot pie didn't taste good and it was dry no favor

Angel zertuche

Very clean carpet and good service! Food was good and the price was fair I ordered the chicken pie dinner. It comes with a dinner roll, coleslaw, veggie, mashed potato, plus chicken pot pie. It also comes with a desert sweet pie. I ordered a banana cream pie. Dont miss out on a good meal and a great time

Chris Brown

Old school meals. Nothing fancy but you get a good complete meal for a very reasonable price. Expect to get a meat with two to three sides, a dinner roll and your choice of a slice of pie. All of that around $10-12! Nice staff. The dining area is big & old school.

Michael Gutierrez

Nice service. Good food , resonable prices

pam maynard

Years ago, my dad would take our family to the Chicken Pie shop for dinner. Now, my husband and I enjoy having lunch there occasionally. Delicious food at great prices, with friendly service.

Eric Scrimpsher

Maria Diaz

They have amazing chicken pot pies

Everett Rhinehalt

Quick, friendly service. Nice hometown vibes and great pot pies. Cherry pie was a great way to finish it off

Bill Morrill

Great price chicken pot pie is to die for

Ron Chandler

A San Diego tradition! If you have not been before, you to do yourself a favor and go. If it has been awhile since you have been there, you know what you are missing...so get over there now. Not only some of the best comfort food, their menu prices are extremely reasonable. When you order dinner, you get a full meal. Chicken Pie dinner includes soup or salad, chicken pie with mashed potatoes, coleslaw, vegetable and dinner roll, plus a slice of pie...for less than $10.00

Sandra Bowman

Excellent foods and fantastic prices not really diabetic friendly.

Tony Cordero

I have been going to chicken pot pie 443 years when when they were on Robinson Street I started there and it's good as always

Rosemarie Morgans

I love this place. It feels like going home to Grandma's. The chicken pot pie is the best. The crust is tasty and the chicken is tender. This is the best $9.99 meal in town!!!

Christine Echevarria

I've been going to the Chicken Pie Shop since I was a child. Now I bring my grandchildren. Thus place makes my heart happy. I hope the recipe never changes

Sharon Burt

If you want great chicken go here!

joseph kravitz

food was just average at best. chicken pot pie was like warm. split pea soup was very good. left less than excited.

M Li

Was told on the phone they had something on the menu , when I got there they didn’t have it was extremely disappointed. The waiter was terrible as if he hates his job and doesn’t care and the wait time was terrible ! I’m sure any positive review online is a phony!!!

Joshua shumen

Fantastic chicken pot pies, fast service.

Vicki Brady

Overpriced.service was horrible. Food used to be really good...not so much any more.

Katie Lupton

This was my first visit to San Diego. I didn’t want trendy food, I wanted comfort food in a relaxed atmosphere. Look no further. 80 years strong!! This is a must if your in San Diego!! Thank you Hector for taking care of us!

Ken Chandler

First of all, the chicken pie is delicious. The meal comes with mashed potatoes, Cole slaw, the vegetable of the day, a roll and dessert. Second, if your group only orders the pie dinner the meal comes out in just a few minutes. Of course there are many other options besides the pie dinner, it just takes longer. And it's all good. Frozen uncooked and precooked pies are great to take home.

Jill Strecker

It used to be fantastic, price was rite. Now to exspence

LaMonte McPike

The food is excellent as well as the customer service.

JoAnn Korona

SD Chicken Shop is an 80 year old institution. You can still get their famous chicken pot pie dinner, pot pie, 3 sides which are mashed potatoes, coleslaw, veggie, roll and a slice of pie for 9.95. Just bear in mind the food is cafeteria-like. Canned corn, potatoes are out of the box. But we found the place quaint. Not much has changed. In a world that is constantly in transition and rushed. The CPS is kind of comforting.

B McMeans

The outside is nothing to take a second look at but this place is yum! You get a lot of food and the prices are fair. They are known for their chicken pot pie so that's what I got and it is really good. Kids got breakfast which they ate up. Service was good. No complaints here. Try them out.

edgar pulu

Home style comfort food at its best.

Lori Smith

Always been Excellent...food. Servers are Friendly and fast. Can't say enough Good things about this San Diego Chicken Pie Shop. Been going there since I was born Parents. went there before I was born 1955 on 5th amd Robinson.

Patsy Gredvig

Huge portions of corn, mashed potatoes, nice-sized pot pie that was filled with chicken. They've been cooking for 81 years, diner ambiance, plenty of street and off-street parking.

Jose Jerez

The chicken pot pie is the best I ever had.

Paul Walker

Great Chicken Pot Pies. Super helpful and friendly staff.

NICK LAFAVER

Been coming here my entire life. Old school, simple and awesome every time. Best chicken pies, best service. Check em out.

Ruth Rosales

They're chicken pot pies are really delicious and are very well priced. I would definitely come back whenever I'm in San diego.

Neal Tomblin

Chicken Pie their specialty, with daily specials VERY reasonably priced. Old school atmosphere, and down to earth staff. Since 1938.

Connie Marie

I didn't know what to expect. I looked up food near me and amongst the many ethnic options the first one I recognized as American asked a stranger I was standing next to if he's heard of it and he said he really enjoys it and he described to me what it was. I'm from Arizona, this was my first time in San Diego and staying downtown so parking was inconvenient, he assured me there's parking and gps took me to a place that served a type of chicken pot pie I've never seen and the biggest cinnamon rolls ever. Staff was friendly. Confuses me why eat in got taxed and take out wasn't but IDC the kids were happy and that made me happier

Daniel HARRIS

Loved the pot pie one of if not the best pot pie I've had. Apple pie was too bitter for me . Lived the rest best buns and slaw I've had in a while

Denis Trent

Real Good, they have great specials and don't forger the chicken pie it's great!

Jim Palmieri

I did not remember this place as a child but I know my mom brought us here. But as an adult, this place is fantastic. I may not live down in San Diego anymore but is worth a trip down from Temecula once a month.

J Hughes

Four generations of my family have been going to the Chicken Pie Shop. Comfort food. Friendly wait staff. Comfortable atmosphere. Plenty more than chicken pie on the menu. Souvenirs like t-shirts & cups available to purchase. Easy separate line for take out orders.

C. SzeTu

My dad LOVES this place. We usually go for their dinner combo, very affordable and delicious. Their sweet pies are very good and my favorite one is the coconut cream one. Their chicken and waffles is really good and their sandwiches are recommended as well. A lot of families come here for lunch and the ambient is very comfortable.

Rikki Marzan

I love the Chicken Pie Shop. It is always fast and inexpensive. And I always leave full. I'm not a fan of vegetables in my chicken pot pie and thankfully their pies are full of only chicken and gravy. Parking is around the back side. You can also order to keep in your freezer for later

T Rollin

Great food, but I was put off when I tried to reacquire the wifi password (had it before, they changed it) and I was told they stop giving it out. Don't label it as 'SD chicken pie shop' if it's not meant to be public. It's 2019. Again, good food. Dirty tables.

John Grein

What can I say the food was delicious and filling. The Sheikh was real good the waitress looks like she's been there since day one friendly and know her stuff. The sad thing is it doesn't look like it's wheelchair accessible. However if you can get inside the doors are definitely wide enough to accept a wheelchair in the Alleyways are wide enough for the wheelchair to be able to get to the tables. Would I go back yes I enjoyed myself. The cost is not too bad for the food that you get the dinner meal I had came with a pork pot pie corn good mashed potatoes and gravy it was rather good to put it mildly and even the Buns you're pretty good.

Remle R. Deinla

This place has a great chicken pot pie, and the blueberry pie was delicious! Everything I ordered was pretty well priced, too. The service was really great! My server was very friendly and checked on me regularly throughout my meal. The ambience was low key and casual, but I think was quite fitting for the diner style foods.

Kim Thompson

I love the chicken pie dinner and it is a great deal. Good down home cooking at a great price!! They have other meals but I always get the chicken pie dinner!! You can't beat it in today's world. Did I mention you get dessert too!! They have a take out side to the restaurant. Separate entrance/doors right next to each other.

Regan Raam

It was so good!..For $9.99... You get a whole personal chicken pot pie with mashed potatoes and corn.. huge portions reasonable prices and it comes with dessert... Come here with an appetite for sure!. Also my waitress was incredible.. she took everybody's order didn't even write it down and brought back everything we asked for!..I couldn't believe it I thought she would at least something!..

Wendy Stratton

My friend and I got the turkey dinner special. It was a lot of food. I did not care for the stuffing, but everything else was good. The mixed vegetables were crisp, not overcooked and mushy. Plenty of white and dark meat, mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw, cranberry sauce and their wonderful roll, which I saved for breakfast today. Dinner came with dessert, but we were too full, so we got pie to go, chocolate cream and coconut cream. Both very good. Service was attentive, efficient and pleasant. I wished I'd gotten the chicken pot pie dinner, though. It's hard to beat!

Brian Raynoha

Very good. Their chicken soup is the best . Period. My kids love the Chicken Pot pie... ohhh and the coconut pie is fantastic as well.

Louis Nava

Updated: I wanted to like this place after seeing all the great reviews. I was craving some chicken and waffles and saw this spot. Never knew it was a "local favorite". Originally, I had a bad experience with my server. After meeting with the owner to discuss this issue with me, I'm going to change my review rating but will leave my encounter with the server below. Let's start with the service and food. 2 orders of Chicken and Waffles and a eggs and corned beef hash plate. Upon ordering his Chicken and Waffles plate my son was asked by the server, "Would you like Eggs or Potatoes?" My son said potatoes and I said I will have the same. 20 minutes later our food came. I noticed a difference between my son's chicken and the one that was on my plate. His was darker. I started off with tasting the potatoes (which were actually hash browns) and couldn't taste anything but the grease that they were fried in. I had to throw ketchup on those all day. Next I tried the chicken. I tried to pull off a piece with my fingers and the hard dark crust resisted that move. So I took the knife and had to put some extra muscle into it. It was dry, tasteless and took some extra jaw action to get through it. Immediately I thought, maybe I would have to throw some butter and syrup on it and tag team it with the waffle. The syrup was light and combined with the massive butter ball on my waffle, it wasn't half bad. Even though the chicken got a little better, half way through eating it the taste of the grease became apparent. I asked my son what he thought and he confirmed. I know there are folks out there that like it like that. It's just not for me after trying other chicken and waffles spots. Upon getting the check I noticed that the bill was a bit larger than I was expecting. The server charged us for the 2 sides of potatoes. When I asked him if it was a mistake he explained that he asked if we wanted to "add potatoes" I said , "ok, it's just that I go out to eat a lot, (many times a week) and normally if there was an extra charge the server would let me know at the time of the order being placed." The way he originally asked made it seem like it was a part of the plate. (You know like, what kind of toast would you like?) But it was ok, with a smile I proceeded to let him know that, it's all good I will pay it. I didn't want to make a scene. To his credit, he did offer to take care of one of the orders of potatoes, but I assured him with a smile, it's really ok. I guess he didn't like that because he started to shame me and my family for eating out a lot. He said, "it must be nice to be able to afford to eat out so much." He continued by saying, "I cannot afford to eat out as much as you, good for you!" I looked at him and smiled, tried to shrug it off but he continued his little rant of me and my family eating out so much. The customers around us looked at us and looked concerned that I would say something back but I just made my way to the front to pay my just under $60 bill. For 3 people that is $20 a person. This place is way too basic for that price. I'll give this place a 3 star form the original 1 star just because the owner was willing to discuss the issue with me and assured me that she will coach her servers. Thank you.

Carla Ivey

A San Diego institution!! If you are visiting you must go there. The food is phenomenal!! Just sooo good. The pies( and other baked goods) are prrfection!! If you have moved here, make it a regular place you bring the family. They are medium priced but you get a bang for your buck. If you have never been here, shame on you! You cant vo through life in San Diego and never have been to The Chicken Pie Shop!!!

Sara Perez

The pot pies are delicious still. It's just chicken and gravy and moist and savory just like the good old days. They even had a carnitas pot pie with Chile verde gravy so yummy.

Home cooked comfort foods at their best! Our waitress was attentive and friendly.

A San Diego staple. I've been going to chicken pie shop for over 30 years. The pie dinner included a chicken pie covered in gravy, mashed potatoes, a vegetable, coleslaw, and a dinner roll....oh did I mention dessert ? Several pie options as well as icecream. I recommend going on a Wednesday night the banana cream pie is incredible! You won't be disappointed.

Tanner Todd

Great food, good price. This place has been here 81 years and I can see why.

Kevin Kaerth

I love this place! San Diego Chicken Pie Shop never fails to satisfy a gnarly appetite. No brainer for a quality, generous meal, served by conscientious and friendly staff. Get some to go..... but nice place to sit down if you have the time.

Hank Tuipala

This place is a historical landmark not the building itself. What's the cooked food stop in your understand. Don't let the name chicken pie shop fool you. They serve a great breakfast, don't forget to grab the pie to go.

D Stephens

Old-school San Diego institution serving affordable comfort food. Not to be missed. Embrace the kitch and the kitchen. Go with it.

The waiter was EXCEPTIONAL. Food arrived quickly. This was great memories when I would go with my mother alone and with my Mom and Dad. Can order via Doordash and the have mugs and T-shirts. This is a San Diego landmark. I took a young person who had never been.

Jason Smith

Great food! Great prices! Great employees! Can't wait to go back!

Joseph Santana

Amazingly good food. Interesting decor. Great if you got $15 dollars for a delicious homey meal. The waitresses are funny and fast. Fun for a date or if you want to eat with friends.

Victoria GandaraSantos

The staff are very helpful. I was with a special needs person and they were kind and compassionate and made them feel welcomed. But for me the food taste like cafeteria food. But probably because it is Healthy for me. I'm used to junk food. But the rootbeer float was great. Oh breakfast is great

Joe

Lunched there over the weekend. Food not gourmet but plentiful and "comfort" in style. Good for lunch or a "non-fancy" dinner. Waitress was a treat as well. Prices avg. to low for what you get.

Mark Brush

Really really good, but reminds me of a retirement home. If you like pot pies, this place gets the job done. Standard fare.

Pete Jacovino

Love this place. Cafeteria style dinning and food. Can't go wrong with the pie dinner...if you're into that kinda thing.

Beau Butterfield

Classic San Diego comfort food. The place has been around a while and it is easy to see why. Big portions and reasonable prices along with very quick service. Really nothing too fancy, just good comfort food.

Catherine Lasota

Home style cooking, great low prices!

Misty Welch

Its comfort food that comes fast... with a slice of pie... what's not to love?

Richard Brooks

Old-school chicken joint specializing in chicken pie - for 80 years! Their dinners include sides and dessert with your chosen entree. I loved the combination of turkey & chicken in the chicken pie; the gravy looked generic but tasted wonderful; the crust was also tasty. There was a comforting level of familiarity in the corn, mashed potatoes, and coleslaw sides - no surprise, no disappointment. The rhubarb pie was a surprise option of their dessert offerings - truly a wonderful end to the meal. Service was efficient yet very friendly. This is a SD dining gem!

yolanda parham

We love this place. Price is eight & food is gr8!

Kari Lyn Kruger

We were very exited to visit this place, my mom was visiting from out of town and we had read about this place being"famous" for their chicken pot pie. Maybe we aren't used to what they consider to be a good place, but we were used to a pie that has a great on the inside that chock full of delicious tender chicken and carrots and peas and gravy with a wondeful flakey crust. This pie was full of just chicken, nothing else, and the gravy is poured on the outside, ruining the flakey crust and making it a soggy mess of just chicken and limp crust. They did however have great banana creme pie!

Veronica Figueroa

Best comfort food! Fast friendly service... always!

Robin Camacho

This place is an institution. I'm 66 & ate at their Hillcrest shop in 60's. When they moved to El Cajon Blvd I didnt go much. Recently had guests from Texas & we ate that same classic comfort, home style food the pie shop is known for. Been back twice since, the service & food are of style of past/price, quality and good service:A1

roddyrod1978

this is great place to eat. The pot pie is amazing! The staff is very nice

Dana Christiansen

So I haven’t been here but last week I was sitting on my porch when a server from here ran past to catch up with our neighbor. They had ordered take out and forgot to grab one of their items and she RAN 2+blocks after them to make sure they got everything they ordered. I just really think that deserves some recognition because that’s awesome

Aint Misbehavin

I love this place. Classic diner food.

Kalos Chu

Wonderful comfort food at a reasonable (although recently less so) price. Sometimes the service can be a little slow, but everyone is extremely kind and the atmosphere is so homey that it isn't that big of a deal.

Dj Purple

Had never even heard of this place but tried it because my book club was meeting here. I'm glad I did. The food here is has a home cooked taste to it. The gravy could use a tad bit more seasoning but it was definitely still good. The biscuits were very good with that whipped butter that they thankfully brought out at room temperature so it would spread right on them. I got the full meal so was able to try the turkey and chicken pot pie, which as you can see I'm the picture, they smother in gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, coleslaw, and a piece of pie. I chose the chocolate cream pie and it was pretty average. The crust could have been better but I think I'm partial to a Graham cracker or Oreo cookie crust so I could be biased. The actual chocolate cream was good. Service was good. The waitress had to be asked to bring out more menus because there was eight of us and I think she brought out two or three but she got right to it so it didn't become more of an issue. I would definitely go back here again but maybe choose a different pie.

Mad Scientists

Love this place. My dad would bring me when I was 7 and now it's me bringing in my own kids to enjoy the Chicken Pies! They love it too. I enjoy having a cherry pie after a great meal. The waitresses are also friendly. Theres no wait most of the time to be seated. They have restrooms. Plenty of seating area. A parking lot too.

Jack Bouley

This place is the real deal. As a native of New Hampshire, I'm always looking for down-to-earth food here in San Diego. This place is great. It's honest food at a fair price. Their chicken pies are wholesome and filling, their potatoes stick to your ribs, and their butterscotch pie is deeelish! Whether it's dine-in or to-go, take a minute to try this place out :)

Noelle Pike

Decent food, very bland. Good service

Yaretzi Lopez

I lived around area and I remember it being really good and quick I remember one time I went for dinner with my family you know you really good I got the fries in the chicken pot pie it's pretty affordable too

Star Baby

Extremely good food, so much so that we didn't have room for rhubarb pie!!

ViolinJohn

Yummm!!! Chicken pies are the best. This is the first time, so I'm looking forward to trying everything else on the menu in the future.

Julie Woynar

So good. Big helpings. Worth the money. Please go hungry. Darin the waiter is the best.

Cynthia Dagley

Love this place! I've been going here for 30 years. Best chicken pie! You can't beat the meal deal for $9.99. The owner is so friendly... yeah you know who you are

Nate

What a fantastic find. Good home-made food, full of flavor and good sized portions! In fact there was quite a bit left to take home. The waiter was very attentive and very personable. Pricing was fantastic. If we're back in the area we will be back!

Michael Fischer

Family Restaurants don't stay in business for over 50 years without doing something right. Find a niche that works for you and your business and work it. Quality and quantity at reasonable prices.

Paula Pease

Good food at a good prices! We love "CPS"!

Sr.CarolAnn Clark CJM

Fab-u-lous Corned Beef Hash n Eggs

George Maynor

We had the Chicken and waffle dinner. The Chicken was freshly prepared. Hot and crunchy. Paired with one of the best waffles I've had in a long time. Great service. Picked up several pies for dinner which were also excellent.

Antonnis Siler

I grew up eating here, GREAT Comfort Food, Fast Service, Clean. . .Daily Specials that include Dessert !

Vicki Estrada

I've eaten here several times. The food is great, staff is friendly and great prices. They just need a bigger parking lot.

Jeff Whitt

Ok I have got to say firstly... Hector is a very cool cat. We enjoy conversation with him. He is very professional and friendly. Myself and my absolutely gorgeous wife love coming here. The food is very comforting as grandma would have made it. I have had a few things off the menu and loved them all.

Alexa Scia

OMG this place is soooo good...! Pot Pie Shop has been around for 80+ years. Everything is made fresh daily. The portions are good (small) but filling. Meal is homemade chicken & turkey, flakey crust, side of mashed potatoes, vegetable of day, apple sauce or coleslaw, choice of fresh made pie, homemake biscuit. You can order choice of beverage including beer. The restaurant is large and parking is provided behind the restaurant. The restaurant is handicapped accessible. There is also a bathroom available. I was told they even ship frozen pies anywhere in the world. The restaurant also offers other items not just pot pies and they have specials each day of the week. The staff is friendly. Next time you are feeling like having a good home cooked dinner stop in, and enjoy your meal..!! We did..

Joaquin A

First time here and I loved there food.

R. Samuel Franks

Fantastic food at reasonable prices! The pot pies are great, but so are the fried chicken, and the fries, and the burgers!

Lisa H

Took forever to get our food after we ordered, and when it did come it was ice cold. Menu prices have gone up way too high, and service down. Such a shame, used to be such a great place.

Manuel Pulido

Always delicious and fresh!! Been coming for 28 years and food still taste the same.

B Tillitson

Good old fashioned restaurant that your grandmother will love. Simple old school dishes done well. I had the chicken pot pie which tasted great! Flavors were on point. My son had chicken fried steak. Dinners came with side dishes and dessert for $9.99. Pretty good deal!

Karen Shields

Found a fly in my salad, and the manager acted as if I was a criminal when I sent it back and didn't want a new one. It was like pulling teeth to get it off my bill, which is stupid since I was willing to pay for the rest of my food. I won't go back.

I want to pine security been coming here for years if not decades. Prices going up a little bit but definitely a place for quantity. Weiss pick up some frozen pies to take home when I'm in town

John Petersen

Always a great spot for a very reasonable price. This spot is definitely part of San Diego's history.

Fast service, good prices and good food. Don't go here if you want Ruth's Chris, but this place has been in business since 1938 so they're doing something right.

The most legit of legit.. basic, we'll run, great people, atmosphere, reminiscent of a bingo parlor / small-town cafeteria cushion . Great locaal right off of Texasnear the Zoo, and Balboa Park in general. Fill up on tasty fill-ing up food on a sweet budget!! Go in,, get it done.. you wont be sorry...

My hubby, my son and I wanted to have the "Pi" special for $3.14. We got there a little after 630pm. There was a long line which was to be expected. We got seated not too long but it took a long time for our order to be taken. To top it off, we had this male waiter which we already know that he's not the most efficient like the veteran waitresses. Let's just say that we will not do that again when they have a special offer.

We love it...have gone there since we were kids, 50+ years

This place is one of the best comfort spots in San Diego. The staff is friendly and very helpful, the food cost is pretty good considering other establishments in the area, chicken pot pies are a classic here the filling consists of only meat and gravy and the crust is nice and flaky, I always have to get the soup sometimes the switch between chicken noodle & chicken and rice also split pea soup is very smooth and tastes

Elaine Allen

Fun chicken pot dinner ... fast, quick nice dinner. Consistent!

Aimee Baren

Great service and interesting decor, very casual. Homeworking and loads of food for the price

I am 46. I have been coming here all my life. I now live abt an hour away, and I will make that drive. We have dinner, then get frozen pies to go, they don't last very long!!

Dani Vierra

Pretty average pot pie in my opinion. Definitely not worth the hype. Their gravy is good but I didn't find that the dough was great, the chicken was extremely dry, and the gravy within the pie was so thick it was more like peanut butter texture. Overall I was pretty disappointed. The gravy is good on their mash potatoes so two stars for that but I wouldn't really recommend their actual pies. They are very gross. My pie had no veggies in it and I'm not confident that was intentional based on other reviews I've read. There's a good chance their quality control needs some review as well.

Awesome food. Great prices. Texas sized portions and home cooking. Chicken fried chicken was amazing and chicken pies left my wife speechless.

Best chicken pot pie (small, but only $6) and awesome country fried steak. One of my favorite restaurants hands down, and a must-eat for anyone visiting the area.

I have always gone here even when it used to be on 5 the Ave years ago.the food was always good and still excellent.

Kirk Gentry
