This is one of the most reasonably priced restaurants, in a city of overpriced establishments. It’s basically a breakfast/lunch place.

Nicholas Albano

Delicious teriyaki burger w/ bacon was amazing ask for a little extra teriyaki When you go it makes for good dipping sauce

Great people that own this place. He's a real hoot. He loves what he's doing! That's for sure. We had great food, and entertainment too.

Kathy Hunt

Quaint and Cozy , good Food.

Always stop here for 6 dollar cheeseburger and fries never frozen

Marcello Lins

This place was a great surprise to me. Given that the average price of meals in Carmel is easily over 30 bucks it was good to find something cheaper right nextdoor. Don't let the price fool you though, the quality of the food here was really high. From the crunchy french fries to the Roka burger full of melting blue cheese, everything was great. For about 12 bucks, you won't find a better meal in that area.

Carolina Lasso

Best burger I've ever had. Not a posh place, just that: a simple yet delicious burger with no pretensions or desire to be chic. Excellent, juicy, tasty and overall how a great burger should be.

Love this place

So sad to see all the negative and rude comments about the owner. I have not genuinely smiled and laughed this much in a long time. The owner is personable, hilarious, genuine and kind. I could have sat and talked with him for hours. We were treated like we’ve been coming to the restaurant for years and if I lived in the area I’m sure that would be the case. If you don’t like in your face personality with sarcastic humor then don’t come here. I can’t wait to travel back here to visit the owner. Oh yeah and the food is delicious!!

I was very optimistic about this little mom and pop restaurant. There was a wait when we arrived which was a great sign in my opinion. Water is served in small bottles which is nice but a tad odd in my opinion. Service was slow but to be expected. I do believe i was served one of the worst breakfasts i have ever had. French toast was covered in powdered sugar and cinnamon. So much so that after shaking the excess off there was a pile on my plate of at least 2 tablespoons. All i could taste was cinnamon ,sugar and undercooked egg. The bacon that was served was so charred it broke off and tasted like it had been burnt. I ate 3 bites and pushed my plate away. My companion had a scramble which was not impressive but at least edible. The jelly at the table was a single container which contained butter (at least i hope it was butter)from previous users. I feel this "meal" was a waste of money and will not return.

Lou Cad

Great old school place. Owner is woot.

Kerry Brannon

Family atmosphere, hot and fresh food!!! Most enjoyable.

Tris Warkentin

This was a very odd experience. We walked in, asked if we could have breakfast (we were 5 minutes after the time they stopped serving). They said no, and then literally served THREE tables that ordered after us breakfast. The place is a bit bizarre. On the plus side, my burger melt was delicious -- really a great burger. The fries on the side were beyond disappointing, though; they were storebought frozen fries that didn't spend enough time in the fryer. The plates are almost comically small. The staff were really kind, but also clearly a little bit out there. The chef awkwardly regaled the table next to us with some strange tale. Overall, I wouldn't go back, despite the delicious patty melt.

Ok food it's Carmel.

Fantastic breakfast and conversation with the owner

Eugene Kirpichov

Best burger I ever had: delicious tender and very juicy meat, fresh veggies, even the bun was delicate, tender and a little sweet (though I usually perceive burger buns as a nuisance). Very nice and hospitable owners.

A strange little dive type diner that is a real oddity compared to the typical rich folk food in Carmel. The chef was odd, but genuine, and his wife was sweet, though a little scattered or spread too thin. That said, we loved it. It felt like going back in time to the 70s or early 80s where people were less private and at least attempted to engage those around them. Again the chef was odd, but in a way that made us groan at his litany of dad jokes and feel like we maybe belonged in a town that is filled with some exclusionary establishments. He asked about us. He asked about the tables around us. He chatted up everyone, like a tiny diner from the 70s or 80s used to. Of all the places in Carmel, this place let a huge bearded poor boy from the central valley feel like he maybe wasn't such an oddity in town. The food wasn't fancy. In fact, quite the opposite. It was simple and to the point. Standard black coffee, eggs, pancakes, syrup. Corned beef hash. Delicious. Not overbearing, or trying to be something it isn't. It was inexpensive. We enjoyed it, and will be back!

Food was terrible. We both had cheeseburgers. Probably worst cheeseburgers we have ever had. Service was fine

WARNING ⚠️ Friar Tucks does not cook their eggs. So I was looking around for a place to eat in Carmel, you know somewhere new where I have never gone before after church. I found friar tucks it look like good pictures and I was exited to go there. So at the place I ordered a number 4 with scrambled eggs and sausage my friend ordered an omelette. My friend cut their eggs and saw that the egg was not cooked at all so she sent her omelette back to the kitchen to see if they could cook it more. When they brought it back It the same, still uncooked. So when I went to eat my scrambled eggs guess what they weren’t cooked! So I asked if they could cook it more they brought it back in less than a minute and there was no change so we left and we aren’t going back.

Phoenix Tong

The food was absolutely horrible. The coffee was watery. The salad was pre made and put back in the fridge. The lettuce was bitter. Everything was wilted. The bread on the roast beef sandwich was stale and proud of it. This place was unbelievable bad. I can't understand how the other reviewers could say excellent.

bigbassmanphd

Good place.

Great burgers. Great place to stop in Carmel by the Sea if you just want a quick and simple meal. Most of the places in the town are fancy and more expensive.

Never walked in a place to place a to go order and walked out because of pure rudeness. Don’t bring your bitterness to work clown. Many better places in Carmel to eat, not worth your time.

Brandi McGrath

The best! We loved it :)

We were looking for a good burger that wouldn't break the bank and we found it! Quaint little place in the heart of Carmel. Owner is quite a character and made it a point to ask where we were from and chat with us. We will definitely come back here!

Richard Fredericksen

Good Cafe for Bft & lunch. Food is good at very reasonable prices. Same owner for over 35 years.

Luis Ochoa

If I could give it 0 stars I would. Horrible service, felt like my family wasn’t welcome at all and my nephew was yelled at after pointing out a reserved sign.

Bobby Embry

Felt like we were visiting with family. Our children absolutely adored the chef. Food was great.

Lovely Owners:)

In the overpriced, overhyped culinary world of Carmel, this was a funky find. It was everything I like about your fave local diner (super friendly staff, people that call you hon, because they call everyone hon.) Lots of tasty burgers, excellent breakfast options, and even some healthy options! The walls are filled with funky memorabilia and it draws a diverse crowd of friendly people. If you are in the area and want a change of pace from the usual artisanal, organic, raised by monks fare on the main drag stop in and say hi to the friendly folks here instead.

Michael Dolphin

Had a GREAT breakfast here -- will now be a new favorite!

Dale Thies

Great breakfast spot, and reasonably priced.

Josh Ruby

Overpriced but edible. The owner attempted to be conversational but came off as creepy and mysogynistic and made our meal more uncomfortable than enjoyable.

Kelsey Morgan

(Translated by Google) This rustic diner we discovered by accident and were not disappointed. It all started with the warm welcome from the owner, a nice chat and tasty food. (Original) Dieses rustikale Diner haben wir durch Zufall entdeckt und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Es begann schon bei der herzlichen Begrüßung vom Besitzer, über einenen netten Plausch bis zum geschmackvollen Essen.

I've never been compelled to review a place before. I've had poor service many times but I've never had it served with a side of spousal abuse. The owner is openly, verbally abusive towards his wife in front of customers. It makes the whole atmosphere tense and uncomfortable. The food is passable but be prepared for a fight with the owner should you try and have your food made without corners cut on quantity or proportionality.

Matt coles

Darlene Ladell

Jennifer Rosky

Great place for a quick, healthy and yummy place for a meal.

Gene Hayes

Really good burgers, okay fries, long wait time. Really pleased with the food though!

Michael Cullen

Honestly some of the best french toast I've had in my life. I may go back to California just to get more of the stuff.

Jason McMillan

One of the better burgers I've had. Very juicy and satisfying. The owner here is a funny old fella who likes to joke with customers. Great atmosphere. Great decor. Terrible parking, but that's the usual in this area of town.

Eileen Perez

Loved the burgers. Very friendly owner.

Molly Martin

It's a quick hole in the wall breakfast spot. Nothing fancy. I had an eggs Benedict and my sister had one of the combos. The hollandaise sauce was a bit off, but it was alright. Servers were quick and nice. Don't expect fancy meals.

Pablo Mccord

A tiny affordable gem here in Carmel by the Sea...i work nearby and order burgers from here regularly to take back to the shop. A Delicious, high quality burger that wont destroy your wallet (unlike many other places here in the area). Keep up the good work fellas!

John Marchetti

Tony Ng

This place is a really good option if youre in Carmel. Its cheaper than any other place and the food tastes amazing. Also, we went there to have lunch when they had already closed, and they let us enjoy our burgers!

Christopher Ratcliffe

Classic Breakfast/Brunch Diner, cheaper than anything else you'll find in Carmel. They have a full liquor license and the owner, Greg, always has a kind word and cheesy joke(s).

Matt Steiger

Really good lunch spot..great value for Carmel....the owner is great!

Ranveer Jayani

I have been eating here for a few years and now friends with the owners, from the first time I met Mr. Greg and his wife Cindy they both welcomed my wife and I with opened arms..To the couple of people that posted bad reviews, Greg has a different sense of humor that the people of California may not be used to he's a little rough around the edges but he has a heart of gold. To the one that placed a bad review I urge you to please try again, I promise you will not regret it.

Dawn Padgett

David Holden

Came in for breakfast and the food was decent. Don’t try to modify anything on the menu though or you will have to listen to the chef shout at his wife in the kitchen, which is right next to the tables. Would not come back solely based off of the rude and overbearing chef.

This was an interesting experience. Friar Tuck is entertaining and makes a mean burger

I'm very happy to have stumbled upon this place trying to find a spot to eat in Carmel...as many have said, this place is both a neat retro throwback in ambiance, and a nice change from the often seen "haute" cuisine around town. No, there may not be fancy confits or heirloom veggies, but I had a good, honest pastrami burger, fries, and a locally brewed brown ale for right around $15...that barely gets you a sandwich in most of the area restaurants. I also enjoyed the experience of the owner coming out to chat with customers. He even shared with me another good burger joint near where I live and some of his favorite pubs around Carmel. I'll definitely come by again!

Flávio Andaló

Great burgers with great prices. The service is great as well!

Jose Carrillo

Food was delicious. I had the Golden waffles with a side of eggs and Canadian bacon. There was no wait time. Service is good and very attentive. The place is small but cozy. The best part is the Frank Sinatra music playing as ambiance music! I will definitely come back when we're in town!

Michele Strider

The owner, y'all... Just go.

Graham Wright

Excellent food and owners were very nice. Great jokes, too.

Parnell Pollioni

When all other breakfast restaurants have a line out the door and Tuck’s is half empty you can guess how good it is. Disgusting food!

John Casey

Would'nt know about the food, didn't stick around to order. We were immediately seated and given menus. Before we could even look at the menu there was a boorish, overbearing, loud mouth in a chefs coat at our table who kept talking and asking questions not related to the reason we were there...TO EAT! After about 3 or 4 minutes straight of this clueless guys banter, my daughter feigned a headache and we left.

MnzGmz

Great place to have a Great breakfast! The owner and staff are very courteous and professional! A vintage place of Americana. Makes you feel appreciated. Great food!

Nice little place, great for breakfast, reasonable prices and very friendly staff!

Food was very good but the service was not the greatest the women host could have been a little more nicer and more pleasant to talk to she wasn’t. I will go again just for the food but not looking forward to being served by her.
