REVIEWS OF Filippi's Pizza Grotto Little Italy IN California

Matthew Fox

Italian deli and grocery in front, outstanding pizza in the restaurant in back. Still amazing pizza like I remember from 30 years ago.

Carrah Rosine

Amazing pizza. Fresh ingredients, friendly staff and love the Italian atmosphere. The little shop you walk through to get to the restaurant is very cool as well.

Alex DeMartino

Ordered the combo plate with the lasagna and cheese ravioli and meatball. The lasagna was a cheese lasagna and was very gooy but not to the point of making a mess. The mozzarella and ricotta went very well with the marinara. Nothing was too strong with the seasoning. The ravioli, while being made from the same ricotta had a sour taste, which was very interesting. Personal, I can not recommend it however it was not bad just not what I was expecting or really desiring. I would say that of the ravioli came in a white sauce instead of the toma tomato sauce, I believe I would have enjoyed them much more. The roll that they brought should only be used then eaten as a sponge for the tomato sauce.

Miguel Carrasco

Great food, nice ambiance, huge portions. In the heart of little Italy, so it can get a little crowded.

Jeremy Une

I had the cheese ravioli with a meatball. The marinara didn’t have the acid that some sauces have and was very pleasant. The ravioli were good sized and filled with a creamy cheese. I paired it with a moscato and had a great dinner. Well worth the long line to get in.

Chance Simpson

Always a requirement to come here to enjoy some great Italian food when visiting San Diego. Delicious pizza and multiple choices in pasta dishes. A must try for anyone visiting the area.

Mike Brinton

The best pizza! We went as a couple and later our family wanted to join us so the staff added 6 more seats during a rush without hesitation. Thanks go to the great staff and delicious Italian food!

Melanie Williams

We love this little unique wonderful Italian restaurant. The service is quick and very friendly. There is a great little Italian food shop in the front and the restaurant in the back. It's not fancy but has a lovely atmosphere and a simple but deeply flavored red sauce at the heart of most of it's dishes.

Angela Bryant

Fantastic food and womderful service. Love the store up front.

Serge Chakmakjian

A delicious restaurant ‘hidden’ inside an Italian store selling all kinds of Italian grocery items. Once seated make sure to get a nice glass of wine and match it with either the pizza of pasta (gluten available). Our server was also incredibly nice!

Rebecca Anderson

Love this restaurant! The atmosphere is the best and if you get a bottle of Chianti, you can write on the bottle and they'll display it. It's a must to visit if you're in Little Italy.

Emeyeme Hernandez

Delicious food and an authentic "hole in the wall" atmosphere that welcomes you to stick around and have another glass of red.

Kelly B

Our experience was great. Our server Amy was amazing, quick and just lovely. Definitely will be a must every time we visit San Diego!

Carlos Alvarez

Tasty homemade Italian food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Good old Italian favorites, nothing fancy. Nice little market at the front of the store with plenty if Italian specialties....cookies, meats, cheeses, pastas etc. Be prepared to wait in line for a table during peak dinner time.

Jenairo Trujillo

Been going to this restaurants since 1968. Don't miss out great food and service. The line is long to be seated but worth the wait. One of San Diego's hidden treasures

Jennifer Baranski

I guess I was expecting a simple menu, but, with REALLY great tasting food, but, eh..... I had the linguine with clam sauce and my daughter the meat ravioli. Nothing was very flavorful or a stand out at all. Our food came right away, but, we pretty much never saw our waitress after that. There was a long line of people waiting and the place gets good reviews, but, I just really was not impressed at all. Sorry....

Kyle Gordon

More toppings and sauce, less dough. Nothing special. Bathroom smelled like candy which was an odd takeaway. Good service overall.

DAVID BUZBY

Attractive and active sections of Sandiego, great pizza, enjoyable walkabout...TLR/Goggle One/Funconsultantsondudy

Berke Baydu

OMG... one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. I also loved the atmosphere. Truely feels like you’re at a small village pizza shop in Italy. Love it...

Robert Nimmo

Great place, has that "old Italy kind of vibe". Usually you have to wait in line to get into restaurant. As you stand in line, you make your way through the little Italian grocery store. The pizza is decent, but the antipasto salad, spaghetti, and the garlic cheese bread are so delicious! If you are in Little Italy while in San Diego, you gotta check out Filippi's!

Chris Child

Let me start by saying this place was very busy so maybe i know nothing but i know what good pizza is and the pizza here wad disappointing at best. I did notice other tables were eating pasta meals so maybe folks come here for the pasta. The pizza had decent ingredients and the sauce was very good but our pizza had enough dough to make three pizzas, thick crusty doughy pizza is what you get from people who miss the cooking classes on quality pizza. Oh well. Like i said this place wad busy so either there were many disappointed tourists or the locals come for pasta here and go for pizza somewhere else.

Cheryl Gibson

You can't go wrong ordering spaghetti, lasagna, or pizza. Pair it up with garlic bread. The portions are large and flavorful. Service was great. Refills kept flowing and server made sure we were set. Don't order the clam and linguini at least the white sauce which is basically overwhelming olive oil. Not much taste despite trying to add salt and lemon. Red sauce might be the way to go. Get in line early if you're hungry for there is always a wait at this location. You won't be bored waiting in the retail store where the line starts for you will always see something interesting or perhaps you have to purchase before your group gets seated.

BANGKOKBANKS

Even though the line is long, the wait was actually not bad. Food good homestyle, basic and quick, again not a long wait. Prices are reasonable.

Michael Montoya

I had the lasagna with meat sauce and a dinner salad. The cheese was gooey, and melted perfectly. The sauce was flavorful and the pasta tender but not soggy. It by far the best lasagna I've had.

Michael Holdcroft

Margherita Pizza was disappointing. Totally covered with tons of cheese but little flavor. The service was great and it’s a cool spot to eat.

Justin Griffin

I had a party of two and was able to get to the front of the line quickly due to larger parties in line in front of us. The line was just barely out the door but we waited less than 10 minutes. Larger parties were waiting up to 45 minutes. Ordered garlic bread and the special pizza (with 8 toppings). Service was good and the food was good too. The pizza was more than enough for two people. (Cost over 20 dollars though). Pizza was good but I've definitely had better at other places. Another random complaint is that I asked for Italian soda at an Italian restaurant and they didn't have any, seems a little strange for an Italian restaurant in Little Italy. (For the record, little Italy in Baltimore, Maryland feels much more authentic and has better food choices if you ever make it there.) Still, the food was good, but if I had to wait 45 minutes I probably wouldn't go.

samantha rivera

Had lots of plans in SD but I made a pit stop to get some Cannolis definitely made a good choice. Maybe I’ll go back for some good too it looked homey enough for me

John G

This was one of our favorite restaurants in the area good price and value. The portions were quite large and we liked the lasagna, I believe they make them in house. There is a small market you pass through to go into the restaurant that sells imported goodies.

Arya Hammon

The food was incredible. We got bread for the table with the most amazing butter I have ever tasted. We also decided on the cheese board, which came with a tasty poached pear and other little noshes.

Chris Morgan

Amazing food and great service. The pizza and salad were delish and the atmosphere was fun. Iced tea was freshly brewed and tasty too. Would definitely go again!

Steve Elliott

Old classic in Little Italy! This place has been around forever and still hits the spot for home style Italian. The line is crazy so aim for an early dinner or be ready to wait for-ev-er.

Robert Burkholder

We had a wonderful dinner and the service provided by Amy was excellent. Great food and plenty of it. Don't be discouraged if the line extends beyond the front door.

Karen Rose

This is a great pizza spot in downtown San Diego. Went on a Saturday and it was extra busy because of a farmers market down the street but parking was not a problem because they had security watching to make sure only Filippis customers were parking there. It was an excellent spot for lunch before catching a flight at the airport. The salad and bread rolls were great and the pizza took over 30 minutes but was worth the wait it was delicious!

Zelda zjvr

Great experience, really enjoyed the old Italian setting and watching them smashing pizzas together. One thing to note this dough is mighty mighty thick. One pizza between 2 people were heaps and we still took 2 pieces home. Good pizza not good for thin crust lovers

Suhas Jogalekar

Good food. Nice rustic ambience. Tiramisu could be a better.

Phoebe Fabros

I loved their pasta selection. I ordered ravioli and it was good and tasty. The beef stuff inside with spinach was amazing!! This resto is a must in little Italy. I will definitely come back to try their pizza .

Moyo M

I love this place!! Some of the best pizza I've ever had. The restaurant starts off looking like a regular store so you have to go inside to actually see the seating and from there they'll seat you. We ordered a sausage pepperoni pizza along with garlic cheese bread cannot go wrong with that combo!

Kim Halpain

Super cute restaurant tucked behind their market. Very vintage feel. Service was great. Food was among the best Italian I have had anywhere. Lasagna was delicious. Pizza was possibly the best I have had - so much delicious cheese. Ravioli was good, but the lasagna and pizza were better. Salad was really good. And they have a kids menu.

Leana Hardgrave

My husband and I love this place! You can smell the delicious food before you even step foot inside and once inside, you think you've gone to a small Italian market. Through the market and deli, you find the restaurant-packed with tables and overflowing with delicious food. My husband and I each had different combos with huge meatballs, sausage, lasagne, spaghetti, and raviolis. Every item was delicious! And come with an appetite- their portions are huge!!

James Burns

Reasonable price but the pizza is American-Italian to the extreme. Kind of like Chuck E. Cheese opened an upscale pizza chain.

Norman Davis

Unbelievable Italian dinner! The marinara sauce on the lasagna is thick, robust, and exquisitely flavorful. The pizza is delicious, stacked with toppings and cheese. Excellent service on top of all of that! I've found my new second home when I'm in SD.

Eric Johnson pena

Love it.. can't wait to get home tonight and go eat there

Karla Jiménez

The best Italian food I've ever tried

Vijay Gokarn

Their garlic bread was amazing but their pizza is definitely not for me .It was soooo much greasy and cheesy that it was almost gross .Had to throw half of it and throwing pizza is a sin .I would prefer landini New York style pizza

David Brenton

Great atmosphere and pizza. Lasagna was solid and garlic bread delicious. Solid Italian neighborhood staple. Can’t really go wrong, doesn’t take long to get seated/get food.

Phil Back

Super long line to get in, but after eating the pizza, garlic bread and a dinner salad -- we're not sure why. The food was just ok. We did a carry out order, because of the long line. We had high hopes, but unfortunately were not impressed with the pizza. We'll try somewhere else next time... Like Nonna, just a few doors down (it is great).

max T

Good vibe. And good service.

Samuel Price

This place is amazing! I come back here every time I'm in San Diego. The sauce tastes homemade and fresh, as I'm sure it is. I always get the lasagna with meatball. The line can be long so make sure to make a reservation well in advance.

Julio Salvador

Great food, excellent ambiance, fast service. There's something for everyone, of all ages. PopA little crowded, but its to be expected given the experience. A definite must.

Doug Kelchner

Filippi's is one of our family's favorites in Little Italy. We've been regular customers for nearly 20 years and we've never had anything but very good and satisfying meals. We love the special salad, the pizza is great, lasagna and ravioli are delicious. You won't be disappointed with anything in the menu and the atmosphere is great. If you get seated in Tina's area, she is a wonderful server as are many of the others. Highly recommend Filippi's. Mangia, mangia!

Alfonso

The food was nothing noteworth, save for the pizza. While the meal was serviceable, the pizza was bursting with flavor. The dining area could use a bit of TLC, but three service was friendly. Our server was funny and prompt to tend to our needs.

Vexyr

Pizza is very good. Cheap and delicious I would recommend Filippis to anyone. The pepperoni pizza doesn't have that much pepperoni but the sauce is sweet and savory. Very nice.

Sean Gafford

Best pizza in San Diego. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Everything is made fresh in the morning and the service is always friendly.

Patricia Ferguson

Best Italian in San Diego! I still continue to take my out of town visitors here. This place is part of the history of Little Italy. Don't miss it!

Eric Snow

Skip the fancy looking places and go to where the food is the best. Real ingredients make real good food.

Moyo M

I love this place!! Some of the best pizza I've ever had. The restaurant starts off looking like a regular store so you have to go inside to actually see the seating and from there they'll seat you. Sherry Alexander

Fine scene for delicious Pizza. Super tasty. Certainly worth a return visit. I can see why they have so many great reviews.

Lola torres

Great time with my family, server Tina! Was delightful.... great place for family, not bad prices especially if you have a big family

BauandHoa Family Shared Google Account

Best pizza if you like thin crust. This place and Bronx Pizza are great.

Thomas Taylor

Ordered to go, seemed to take longer than it should. Pizza was really good, fresh toppings. Great atmosphere.

Richard Perez Moyet

I totally recommend it. From outside it doesn't look that good but when you get inside, through a market place, it is like being in another place (Itally I suppose)!!! Try to get a table inside and not in the "patio". It is not the same feeling. Food was amazing. Have to try the Lasagna (Lasaña).

James Yap

When I first walked in, I thought it was just a regular convenience store of packaged ingredients. I found out later that we were in line waiting to be seated. Although the line was a bit unusual to be standing inside a store, it wasn't a big deal. I just believed that it was a small inconvenience to wait in line and let people out in such a narrow aisle. When I was shown to my table, it was actually a lot better than I anticipated. Cute area to bring a date. The place is well kept. Neat and clean. But I notice a few small details on areas that could use some cleaning but again, not a big deal for me. As for the food. Good portions. Not too little and not too much. Depending on how much you can eat, the portion can serve two. I had the alfredo and a meatball pizza. The pasta was great and perfect size to share. The pizza was good but my only complaint was that there was too much cheese and it wasn't properly distributed on the pizza (the cheese was all on the center), again no big deal for me.

Ingrid Lopez

There was about a 25 min wait. Food was delicious and totally worth it.

HowTheKookie Crumbles

You could never go wrong with this place. It's family friendly, and the people who work there are the best. Very casual. No need for reservations.

Joel Pesce Sr

Everything I have ever eaten here is awesome. The pizza is the best pizza you can get. So yummy.

Tamara Jones

This Aussie loved it all. Best lasagna and Fillippi's in all of SD

Shannyn Witt

Amazing as always! Worth the wait.. everytime I go to Diego, I cant leave until I get a pie!

Todd Cranston-Cuebas

Totally loved it! The weight seemed like it would be long but it actually moved the long quite quickly. Had the eggplant, cheese lasagna, and cheese ravioli. All were great! Love the authentic ambiance, would definitely go again.

Andrew Brewer

They are very generous with the cheese! Super tasty. I liked the fine crushed red pepper and fresh greater Parmesan cheese. Our server seemed a bit depressed tho.

Mark Bell

Great food. Great sevice. Great atmosphere.

MaryEllen Trujillo

We gone to San Diego Every Couple Months for the last 8-10 years JUST to eat at Filippi's Italian Deli and Restaurant. Their Lasagna, Meatballs and Ravioli are Delicious. Next is Their Pizza for Us. Try Filippi's, You'll LOVE them too

It's insane that I lived in San Diego for almost 14 years and never reviewed this place. Why the five stars for a small Americanized Italian restaurant? The ambiance, the service, the grocery section in front and those massive meatballs, for starters! From the outside this place is small and unassuming, but once you walk-in, head to the back and see all of the wine decanters hanging from the ceiling, you know you're in for a treat. My last visit here consisted of a massive salad, some meatballs, a thick pizza, a few Arnold palmers, and slew of hungry friends. The salad was tasty and came already tossed in dressing and covered in meats and cheeses. A great way to start the meal. The meatballs come in individual bowls and are huge... like softball sized. These are delicious and with every meaty bite you get to taste the zesty sauce these meatballs are swimming in. For the pizza we got "The Special". A large pizza with onions, mushrooms, black olives, peppers and loaded with cheese. This is a heavy meal so come hungry. The pizza was fantastic. The crust was crunchy and chewy, the veggies were crisp, and the thick layer of cheese was the perfect accompaniment to the sauce. If you're visiting San Diego and find yourself in Little Italy, this place is a must. If you're not sure, just ask a local. Salute!

10/10 Berry good pija

Michael Petteway

Pasta, pizza, deli, bakery... What more can you say! Everthing was delicious! This might end up a weekly affair.

Randy G

A trip to San Diego isn't complete without a visit to Filippi's! One of the best Italian restaurants I've had in Southern California and this location is right in the middle of Little Italy. There is nothing on the menu that I ever regretted ordering. This location is located in the back of a cute market that you have to walk through to get in. It makes you feel like you're in a movie visiting an speakeasy. It really let's you live in the moment! This place does get pretty busy at times and the line can be out the door but it's always worth the wait.

chris meyer

Very unique place. A market at front of store and a beautiful rustic restaurant in the back. We tried the ravioli and lasagna wich comes in one plate. We also hade a pizza. The portions are huge. 3 people are and we had left overs. There prices are great when you consider one plate could be a dinner for 2. There pizza is amazing handmade heavenly bliss. If you are in little Italy this is a must stop place. The staff is also friendly and prompt with service.

Shannon Perez

I eeally enjoy coming here. The food is great, lots of ooey gooey cheese. Portions are generous. The price is great. They are also one of the only restaurants that has its own parking lot, which is a rarity in Little Italy. Win, win, win!

Angela Anger

The food was good. Staff was attentive. A good value for the price.

Jon Florence

Authentic Italian restaurant and great service. A little bit tight in seating accommodations, but the rustic ambiance and various aromas make up for any discomfort.

HEK K.

I lived in San Diego 24 years ago, just back for a visit and decided to try Filipis again. Omg the Margherita Pizza with fresh Mozarella, shredded basil and tomato was Aaamazzzing!!! Do yourself a favor and order it the way it was created: Olive Oil on the crust & no tomato sauce. You won't regret it. Its super busy area downtown so park in the private parking lot for Filipis next to the restaurant. It's super fun at night to walk, sit with friends outside in the open areas near shoppes, under the strings of lights. And, damn, you should see the meatballs on the spaghetti going out of the kitchen. Yummmm.

Sam Nielson

HOLY COW! Mama's recipe for sure. Not your regular italian food shop. First time? Try the Meatball and Sausage Lasagna!

Khalil Abuamr

Authentic food and tasty Pizza. Loved the experience. Both the Pizza and the Ravioli were amazing.

Olivia Wright

I had a delicious lasagna here while in San Diego for a conference. This was well worth the walk from my hotel and such a lovely place.

Roo Won

Filippi's has generous servings. We had a mushroom and sausage pizza and a serving of lasagna. It was enough for 4 people. The food is consistently delicious. The service is friendly and top- notch. You can buy groceries in the front of the restaurant too.

Emma Mappes

Great pizza! The line was all the way out the front door, but it went pretty quickly. Great location

Sammuel Marotta

Ok pizza and salad. Always crowded with tourists. Not my kind of local hangout.

Astrid Kean

Great pizza restaurant. Service was awesome. Very attentive wait staff. The pizza was delicious and very filling. The anti pasta salad was a perfect pairing to our pepperoni and olive pie. Defintely recommend this as a must eat when in downtown San Diego. Also come a little early to snag a great parking spot. They have a decent sized lot.

Tim Barnes

Very good and good service. Sometimes a bit of a wait due to popularity but great overall family style food.

evan laird

Great food the chicken parmigiana was mouth watering...great service. Left with a full belly and a big smile on my face.

Jim Valdivia

Service was Great and the Food was Delicious we Love this place and the workers are so professional.

Ed Price

We've been here many times over the past 20 years, and it never disappoints. Family-owned and has an Italian grocery onsite as well. Delicious pasta, pizza and salad. Highly recommended when in downtown San Diego.

Austin Chambers

Best homestyle Italian in San Diego. Small menu with quality ingredients. Their pizzas ate excellent and the marinara sauce is my favorite. Chicken Parmigiana with mushrooms is incredible. The 'meat' in the meat ravioli is savory Italian sausage with what tastes like parsley and sweet basil. If you're visiting San Diego via the airport or Embarcadero, this is a must visit.

Jay Mayo

A great family owned Italian feel atmosphere. They provided grade, authentic Italian food. We almost made a mistake and missed this place. Well worth the stop. You won't leave hungry here.

Tiffany Jaimes

Overrated and underwhelming. 15-20 minute for a very limited menu that is ok, at best. I had the spaghetti with meat sauce. Based on the line out the door I was expecting to be blown away. The sauce was thin and acidic, and the meat was far from robust is flavor or quantity. It was not worth the wait.

JOSE RODRIGUEZ

Delicious many famous people come here. Including us.. Lil Italy.

J.J.

Very quaint and traditional. Loved the fact you had to go through a market before entering the restaurant. Ordered Margherita Pizza which was decent but i would like to come back to try other things.

Kimberly Kaupert

Great pizza, thicker crust, sausage was very good. Family style, great atmosphere for kids. Waitress was very friendly and attentive. Prices good/slightly lower than the rest of the street.

Chuck Anaya

Long line to get in BUT once you're in they seat you and take your order quickly. Food came out very fast even though it was a full house. Food was delicious and well worth the wait. Huge food portions so sharing is encouraged. Today I had the Italian sausage with cheese & peppers sandwich, amazing! Also try the garlic bread!

J J

Your run of the mill itialian place. Nothing special. Pizza and lasagna were definitely good but nothing you cant get at a dozen other italian places around town.

Bryan Foster

Great pizza joint in little Italy. Crazy waits out the door but they move it pretty fast. Decent pasta and pizza. Reasonable prices. Family friendly. Sauce was a bit underseasonsed but not egregious.

Carol Post

The sevice was wonderful. Tina made us feel like we were guests at her house. She anticipated our needs and was very kind and thoughtful. We brought guests from out of state and they loved it!

Chantel Kellogg

We waited in line about 10 minutes about 2:30 in the afternoon on a Sunday. My pickiest eater ate two orders of garlic bread and all his noodles. Which was a lot. My other son ordered a pizza. His eyes were so big when it came to the table. There was no way he could eat it all. He was willing to try. I had linguine with white clam sauce and my husband had spaghetti. The thing that was kinda neat about the place was old Chianti bottles were hanging from the rafters and people wrote a special message on them. I'm a sentimental person so I love things like that. When we left there was a long line. Good indication the food is good.

steve white

My favorite Italian restaurant! Been going there for decades. Love the atmosphere an the lighting. Look forward to walking through the small grocery store to the podium where the hostess takes you to your table. Besides the great food I love just sitting at my table and smelling the fantastic smells coming from the kitchen- never get tired of it!!! Enjoy!!!

mo jindani

Have walked by this place during prime time and there’s always a line out the door so you know it must be good. Decided to go for a late lunch during the week to avoid the crowd though. The place is really old school. When entering you walk through an Italian grocery store into the pizzeria. We ordered a pizza and bottle of wine. The pizza was really delicious and cheesy. The wine was affordable and nicely complemented the meal. The staff was super friendly. She offered great suggestions. We didn’t feel rushed at all during our visit. Would recommend and def go again.

Brad Evans

Authentic Italian food and market. Small place but nice atmosphere. Price is right.

Zuzanna Liberto

Ordered a large, thick crust margherita. I received the pizza in a box that couldn’t even close, so they put a bag over it to “mask’ it. When we called them, they refused to give a refund and told us to call grub hub. Moreover, their margherita pizza doesn’t come with tomato sauce... so we were eating bread with cheese basically.. terrible place and terrible pizza.

SnowballvsJohnny Now

It was my first time visiting Filippis! It has been in business since 1950 at this location! I was there on the 4th of July for take out! But, I don't recommend trying it or takeout, on a busy holiday! I noticed autographed photos of celebrities that have visited before! The pizza is outstanding and the service is great! Lights are dim! They have a lit garden seating too! It is red carpeted, so a bit of scraps can be spotted on the ground! It still is a comfortable environment to explore once or many times in Little Italy San Diego!

Bryan Foster

My group had the large salad, three pizzas, and an order of raviolis. The large salad came on a platter and fed 9 people. All of us are some pizza and three had part of the ravioli. The salad was fantastic. Classic Italian salad with lots of meat, cheese, olives, and banana peppers. The pizza was very good. The crust was excellent and the toppings were good. The crust is a "regular" thickness, not New York or deep dish. I didn't have the ravioli, but it looked good. Service was VERY slow and the place was not crowded. Admittedly, the waiter said they had a large grub hub order.

Alexis Sinclair

The food here is amazing. The portions are large, the staff is pleasant and the sauce is spot on (everyone knows Italian food is all about the sauce, well at least I say so). I came to San Diego for work and was referred to 4 different Italian restaurants and Filippi's was the first one I tried. After I had Filippi's, I didn't even bother with the other 3 options. As a foodie and food blogger I know that's not fair but it was just that good. I'll go back to try the others some day. When you know something is just right you stick with it. I went back a second time and proved it wasn't a fluke, it was spot on once again. Not to mention the atmosphere makes you feel like you're in the Lady and the Tramp movie which I love. I also love the market you walk through to get to the restaurant. Maybe one day I'll try to recreate one of the dishes I had... Maybe not. I must admit, there can be a wait, but they definitely do their best to make the wait a short as possible. And the prices make the wait worth it. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Noelle Pike

A wide assortment of food and goodies to be found in the deli. I love this deli! The restaurant is delicious as well..so many options to choose from. All amazing! Great service each time

Robert Lahr

The best Pizza, Definatly going back for the Shrimp & the awesome service of course.

Allyson Lissy

Pizza was magnificent My kids loved the lasagna Low lighting, bottles hanging from ceiling. Parking is limited. We did get a spot in the lot. Frank Sinatra music in the background. Definitely a relaxing atmosphere. Dessert was the canoli, we shared one.

KT Baysinger

This has been a favorite of mine since living here in the 80's, and they still have the wonderful food, service, & market! Mangia!

Cierra Lucas

Love this place. Everytime I have family in town I take them here. This is by far my favorite Italian restaurant

Suzy Chun

All pastas were so bland... I wonder why they have good rating on Yelp. The server was friendly and nice. The salad was good.

Great place! Huge plates and quantity. Best lasagna en USA. The sangria was great. We loved it!!!!!

Samantha Siefert

The store in the front is cute, but the line out the door is a mystery. We came here on a recommendation from a cab driver but the food is essentially your lowest tier Italian American food. The ambiance might be nice for a large family gathering if the price point were low enough, but otherwise there are many better options nearby.

The food here is always good .. Our server tonight was not very attentive, that has NOT been our experience before. We will continue to enjoy going here and hope that she just had an off night.

Christian Gallardo

The best!!! The best!!! Never had anything this amazing! I will be traveling back to San Diego just for this pizza, Wow!

Tom Krieger

Has to be one of the best pizzas I have ever had. We had a Margherita pizza, olive oil, no tomato sauce. Muzzerella cheese was fresh and wonderful.

Vicki Estrada

I just love this restaurant. The food is very delicious, the employees are always friendly and helpful.

David Torres

This place is overrated, the food tastes like Costco's frozen and microwaved. People who call this 'italian' have no idea of what real Italian food tastes like. I ordered pasta and veal scallopini and it came all chopped in little pieces like gathered leftovers from the previous night, simply awefull. We boxed the rest of our meals and gave it away to the homeless near by, hope they didn't get sick.

R Hunter

Don't let that line deter you! It goes pretty quick. Long line, great food! The antipasto salad is the best, the pizza is the BOMB..LOL. The pizza is amazing. You MUST try this place, you won't be let down.

Adam Brewster

Great spot if you're looking for American Italian. Bring a big appitite as the food is delicious and servings are very generous.

Christopher Espinosa

You can drive by this place and NEVER KNOW IT'S THERE it's that well hidden. What looks like a italian deli in the front turns out to be just that but with a huge restaurant in the back hiding a great place to eat and experience Little Italy in the heart of Downtown San Diego. The staff was awesome & fast & friendly. The menu was great & you get A LOT OF FOOD for the price let me tell you. I got the classic Pepperoni

Ashley LaSpesa-Ruiz

Amazing, real Italian food. I've never had a bad dish here, and I've been coming here for 25 years.

Amanda Henson

I asked several locals for their favorite Italian spot and every time Filippi's was the answer, so I snatched up an Uber and headed directly there. I was not disappointed. The meat sauce lasagna was one of the best I've ever had. Gooey mozzarella, spiced just right sauce, and a piece as big as my head. The service was fantastic and the atmosphere was secluded and cozy. I'll be back!

Diego Gámez Lara

This is a nice place. Awesome pizza, awesome starters. Great for family and friends. Step by if you're near Little Italy SD.

David Henrie

I love Filipi's. The food is solid Italian. I love their Chicken Parmesan. It is WAY way good! Their dinner comes with a dinner salad, a bowl of soup, a loaf of bread, the parmesan chicken, and a full serving of lasagna, or spaghetti. You need to go there hungry. It is enough for for two people. I am a big eater. I love food, and I appreciate larger portions. Although I tried, I was NOT able to finish everything. It was just too much food. I recommend that you go early. You are going to love it!

Paul Green

Best pizza around. Do not order extra cheese. It is loaded. Good yeasty crust. Also great lasagna and other Italian delights. Only issue I have is there is some inconsistentencies between the different locations. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Enjoy!!!

This place is the best, we come from a distance to eat here, for the price of the it's worth it

Nestor Vega

Love it here! Great food and great restaurants and great wine, excellent place for couple's, they even have outside sitting like in Italy, something finding parking lot is hard but just stay a few blocks away and get Uber for six bucks or walk either way is good!

Renee Avila

My cousin had come here all the time as it was so good. She hasn't been. A while. Quality/flavor of the food was disappointingly. But the staff was very nice.

Cozy restaurant behind an Italian market. Everything was good. A bonus was that it had a dedicated parking lot in Little Italy!

Marcia Wolff

So very quaint! A lot of locals. Food is pretty good, not fantastic, but hey, very decent wine, priced accordingly!

Mike Hughes

Good pizza, salads and friendly wait staff

We were looking for an Italian restaurant and we discovered this delicious place. When we arrived it, the place was full and we waited on line about 5 minutes. The dishes are big, the sauces delicious and the service is good.

Aaron Stuck

Very authentic southern italian. Get thier homemade lasagna. Its like momma used to make it!

Roger Freitez

Nice market, and place. but the food was not good at all. I went there with two Italians and they left very disappointed because there was not Italian food at all.

Roberto Javier Monroy

Great customer service and delicious food!

michelle mcbride

Great, fast service! And the food is AMAZING

Ana G

This location has only one size pizza. The one in Chula Vista, Imperial Beach and the one near Zion Rd have 3 sizes. Service in this location kind of slow. Ordered spaghetti with meatball and meatball was not served. Food same delicious flavor as the other locations!

Bryan F

Our first stop every time we visit San Diego! The food here is great, the portions are big, and the prices are fair. Love the Italian grocery store in the front. Can't ask for more than this!

jacki Penwarden

Haven't been here in years, so glad to see it hasn't changed food as good as it was years ago. Good comfort food. Nice to know some restaurants can keep the same great food

Gino Guerrero

been visiting this place for so long , and the food is superb , big portions , love it

Anthony Courtney

The atmosphere is wonderful from the decor to the smell of fresh home cooked food. The prices here so reasonable and the portions are huge. I don't live in California but if I am in the area you can bet I will stop in.

Wayne Webster

Good service, pizza was real good. I will go back again.

Art BanDit

The cutest place for a date. I have never seen this many people speaking Italian stateside then I had here. It was pretty cool. The food is very reasonably priced and staff is very friendly. Would recommend.
