OMG! You know a good place when they have an A rating in the window and you open the door and then smell of great food hits your nose! And the prices are good
Deep Fried Shrimp the best!!
I am not a Chinese good expert but I am an expert on taste. This is a place with great taste! All the good is simply served and perfect for sharing. Make sure you have the House Special Shrimp - it's slightly spicy and crunchy and oh so good. Park in the lot to the left of the restaurant and get validated inside. And if you want a little dessert, just walk across the street to Phoenix bakery for a wonderful treat.
Outstanding spot for Chinese food. everyone at our table was very satisfied. this place has a great feel to it. food is similar to a place in san francisco i liked.
Greatful for this place, very tired when I waddled in after exploring the city , ihad late dinner of chicken fried rice and hot tea. right across from hotel :)
I wanted a quick bite since couldn't parking opted to this restaurant after reading positive reviews but I aghast it wasn't the food I expected. I ordered brocolli with pork and a chicken dish. I expected Chinese broccoli to be served with pork dish but it wasn't. Both dishes fell short of flavours. The service was fast and courteous.
Great food!
Great food & genuine Chinese food! Service was a little slow but works were very nice. After seeing other reviews my girlfriend & I walked from the Hollywood strip all the way there just try try it out & it was worth it!! Definitely going to go back next time I'm in town! Prices are also typical nothing over priced & large portion.
Great food!!

Terrible I am chinese
Been going here for years.
great place friendly personnel great food still our favorite after 23 yrs
Great authentic food.
Been coming here since I was a kid. Great food, and lots of memories. Highly recommend trying this place if you're in the area. House special shrimp is a must!
Best Chinese food in Chinatown
Been coming here for years love the house special noodles, sweet n sour chicken and fried soup is delicious! Definitely recommended
Don't let the spartan interiors and casual service fool you. This place serves up some of the finest Chinese food in LA. Get ready to try a non greasy and delicately spiced fare. I recommend the sautéed shrimp, baby bok choy and mushrooms, Kung pao tofu and orange peel chicken. Always full. 10 minutes wait. Quick service. Moderate prices. Definitely recommend.
Chinese food - a Christmas Eve family tradition that I have been unable to continue for the past few years - has finally found a home! Now that I've discovered Wonderland Restaurant, I will be having their excellent cuisine more often! ...
Low key, well made good quality food. Thank you for freindly service.
I was craving spicy hot & sour soup, moo shu pork and tangerine peel chicken. They made the best of these food here. All other dishes are also delicious. They can really cook here. Services is great. The place is really small, 11 tables. Parking is a dollar and hr with validation.
Their house specials are very delicious. Especially the house special shrimp.
My Favorite
Incredible! Looks like nothing but looks can be deceiving! Kids (14 & 11) loved it and want to go back the next night. 4 of us ate well and with tip was under $60. Food was fresh and hot. String beans and chicken and chicken w/orange peel are a must. Will definitely go back.
I have been coming here for years. The food is wonderful and they make it real fast. Staff is very hard-working and the small restaurant is very clean.
Have been coming to this restaurant for many years and food and service has always been good.
Great food. Homemade, inexpensive- The best in the area. Especially like the fresh made kung pao chicken.
Best chinese food ever, especially the moo shut pork
Chinese friends is the best thing that has ever happend to me. Been coming here for over 20 years. Food is great and silvia is awesome.
My friend took me to eat here for lunch last week and it was great. It's in the heart of Chinatown (DTLA) and very delicious authentic Chinese food. The orange chicken was like I have never seen or had before. It was Awesome, and the people were great! You won't find any of the other "Chinese" restaurants around town like it, or as good as this one...
The worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life. It made me sick in the stomach afterwards. I asked the waitress for fried shrimp and if they cooked it in a batter and they didn't know what batter meant. They never brought me my fried shrimp. The fried rice with beef and shrimp was white rice with egg and chop parsley I think. The shrimp was the tiniest raw looking salty terrible-tasting shrimp and the beef look like slivers of uncooked cat meat. Disgusting! I never saw fried rice look or taste like that. The orange chicken was slivers of chicken cut up in many configurations in a wierd tasting orange sauce. They did not put it in a batter so it would be crunchy. The place is small unattractive with the workers sitting around at tables eating with robotic personalities.
Wonderful kitschy little place with good inexpensive Chinese fare and a nice staff.
Omg this place has delicious kung pao chicken and orange chicken. The food is amazing but there is this server tall older lady that has shorty hair who has an ugly attitude. If she corrects her attitude not get fire i would change my review to a 5 star.
I have been going here for over 15 years ..... By far some of the best Chinese food LA has to offer. My personal Favs. being the Kung Pow Chicken and the Mushu Chicken. Enjoy
Grate food love it me and my family
The food is very good, and the service is great!
Greet service. Food was good with lots of options. A bit pricey.
Pretty good standard Chinese. No complaints
Average Chinese food. Very small place
Great comfortable place to get some nice Chinese food. Good service too.
I love Chinese Friends Restaurant wings. They're so addictive and I always leave so stuffed. The green beans are also delicious. They don't take reservations and there's always a wait. There's Chinese Friends Restaurant 2 next door which has an abridged menu.
Been going here for years with my family. Incredibly delicious authentic Chinese food at a good price. Get some tea and Kung Pao!
The best Chinese food ever.
Chinese food, yeah, delicious. I give this spot two thumbs up. I look forward to a return trip.
After reading about this place in a novel by Michael Connelly I decided to give it a try. I'm happy I did as the food was very fresh and tasty. They give you just enough and the tea was very hot. It's a small place so try to get there early or you might have to wait. Parking is a buck in the structure and hold onto your hats if you have to use the bathroom. Overall it's a great place to eat.
We had a good experience at Chinese Friends. As soon as we sat down we were automatically served a pot of hot black tea which was a nice touch. I really loved the eggplant with pork - the brown sauce was delicious and the eggplant was cooked perfectly. I also enjoyed the Mu Shu Pork (it came pre-rolled in the wrappers which was nice) and the pork vegetable dumplings appetizer was piping hot and delicious. The dishes don't come with rice so be sure to order that if you want it. They validate for an hour if you are sitting down for lunch or dinner and 15 mins if you are just grabbing take out. There are also meters nearby but they are kind of expensive.
Just an average Chinese Restaurant. Food not tasty. I have ordered from here before and decided to try it but it was a little bit disappointing experience.
Great food and great price
Great food. My family and I have been coming here for years and never disappoints. It a small mom and pop restaurant but the food is delicious. My favorite is the Friends special noodles.
Don't understand why this place get a high rating. Barely eatable. Offers low quality not authentic Chinese food in LA Chinatown. Although LA Chinatown is not in best shape, I still expect something a little more decent.
Love this place. I have been going to this place since I was 9 years old
Food is delicious and will go there again.
Great place. I've been coming here with my husband for 26 years. Delicious food.
Nice , clean small place. Great food
Food is good but no restroom for customers
I've been coming here since since the 90s! Always friendly & fast!
Small Chinese restaurant. House special shrimp is GREAT. Park next door, don't pay the restaurant will validate $9 you'll pay $1. We paid full price because we didn't know. But even if you pay full price for parking FOOD IS AMAZING YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
excellent service, good food!
Ok
The best chinese restaurant! Very friendly and nice staff.
Been coming here for years, nice family resturant
always great food and great service ...
Authentic Chinese food! I asked no sugar in my dishes and they are great. They serve fast and warmly. Strongly recommend here for anyone.
Fine spot for delicious Chinese food. visited at eight, it was not full. looking forward to a return trip. bring your hunger - portions are filling.
Wonderful to shop here
Good Chinese food and my favorite dish is the Orange Chicken.
Been coming for years. Very good food. Excellent service. Love the wonworton (hope I spelled it rigth) soup. The only down side would be the bathroom, very small and you have to cross the kitchen to access it. Over all worthwhile.
The best Chinese Food in Downtown LA. Customer since 1990.
Been coming here for almost since I was a baby and parents been coming even before that.
It's a tiny cozy place, friendly staff, excellent food (quality and portion) and fast service. In peaks hours it's completely full
My boyfriend and I chose Big Lantern for dinner because it was the only dim sum place in the Mission Area. It isn't my favorite dim sum in the city, but it's affordable. I'm bumping my review up from 3 to 4 stars because I think this place would be awesome for vegetarians! All the traditional meat dim sum they have is also offered in imitation veggie options. For example, they have both regular BBQ pork buns and imitation meat BBQ pork buns. Really unique!
Great food, really enjoy coming to this location they treat you right. make you feel very welcomed and the food is good
Food was extremely delicious
The kung pao sauce flavoring will transport your soul into another dimension not so closely related to heaven.
chinese food, mmm, excellent. I've had nothing but pleasant experiences here and plan to keep coming back. The prices are good for what you get.
The absolute best
Most amazing food ever! My family has been coming here for nearly 40 years. We drive over an hour to get to this gem.
A very small restaurant but very friendly and nice service. The food is amazing.
Chinese food, delicious. Great food with quality ingredients. Prices are reasonable. They have so many great reviews for a reason.
I love love love this place. It is my all time favorite.
Very delicious.
Expect mom and pop and the best food ever
Nice place...
since 1982 been coming its like a family tradition, since the owner, silvia and the rest of the crew. so good to have a place that u feel like in ur house. we have to come once a week. like a religious thing.
Price is reasonable, food taste good and service is fast though the place is kind of small and it would be nice to have a bigger plates. Ample parking beside the restaurant with validation
Great food and always busy. Very little waiting for your food. Food is always consistent. Take out is always fast. Wish that they delivered.
Very fast service! The fried rice was amazing!
By far our family's favorite Chinese restaurant. My extended family has been coming here for over 30 years. Staff is super friends and accomodating. House Special Shrimp and Family Delight are must haves. ...
The most amazing food ever! i have been coming here since 1982. My family love it, the drive is over an hour to get to this gem but it's worth it!. The service is fantastic and so is Silvia and her staff
I've been conning here for 17 years.
The food is great here and not so expensive
Best Chinese food ever. My husband has been coming here for the past 35+ years for a good reason
Like it
My favorite place to eat Chinese food. I have been coming here since I was 7 years old, I am 38 currently.
Good tastes, reasonable, clean restaurant
Shrimp fried rice is my favorite! Love the moo shoo pork and house special shrimp!
This place is always a joy to visit, the server has seen me grow in to my late 30's since I was 10. So 20 years of visiting this place. The amazing thing is that the food always taste the same, Amazing and Awesome. But seriously the flavor is truly something amazing when you serve food out of a kitchen that has been producing Chinese Food Chef's since back in the day. They were once or probably still are a cooking school. I wish I would have attended this school.
Chinese Friends has been a Family tradition to eat with our children since 1987, as a child I was taken there and now I take my children to enjoy the wonderful food
Small place, but friendly service and quality food
Phenomenal food. The food is so good it gets five stars without customer service. This is a very rare instance for me. The location is in Korea Town and parking can sometimes be a hastle. Tell the attendants you're there to eat and save 9$ on parking. The seating is horrible in the restaurant. It's very small. The food is still so amazing it carries this rating EASILY!!!
I love this place! The house special shrimp is thr best. My family has been coming here for at least 20 years.
Our place to go. Best pan fried noodles
Fine spot for tasty chinese food. Super appetizing. Prices are reasonable. I see why this place has a lot of positive reviews.
Wonderful food and fast service.
Best Chinese food in Chinatown. My family has been coming here for over 30 years. Kungpao Shrimp is a must!
The best Chinese food in china town
I've been coming here since 1981. My favorite dish is House Special Shrimp. It never used to be on the menu, but now it's a standard. It's a small place that usually fills up for lunch with office workers, but it's easier to get a table in the evening. They validate your parking in the parking structure next door, so don't forget your ticket. They also do take-out.
This place is one hidden gem I been coming here for ages still the good service and the food is spectacular and the three flavor soup something out of this world just by and try it!!!
This is hands down the most authentic, homemade Chinese food in Chinatown. Delicately flavored, the dishes actually have different tastes and colors, instead of the uniform orange that all other places favor. The hidden gem is the MooShoo. You've never had it like this. Is a small family run restaurant, everyone takes turns doing different things and they are all very polite. If you park in the underground structure, they will validate so you only pay a $1.
Best chinese food in cali...
Nice mom n pop shop... good food call place to eat ..
Best Chinese food in LA. I drive about an hour to dine here. Worth it every time!
Decent food but very Americanized Chinese style and not the best ambience (fluorescent lighting) A sit down setting for standard take out Chinese. Close to the center of Chinatown which is probably why a lot of people come here.
Fantastic hole in the wall. Totally un- assuming. Great food , better service.
I been coming to this place for a very long time since i was a lil girl. my father would literally drive over an hour just to go eat his favorite food. After his death we still keep going. Amazing people.
Friendly staff, fast service, reasonable prices and portions. A little whole-in-the-wall gem. I will definitely visit again.
Great food. Great service. Validated parking.
Loved the sizzling rice soup and Kung Pao chicken. They are friendly, the restaurant is clean and service is quick. Great for nostalgic, American style Chinese food!
Very good
A few friends and I went today, which is Christmas and although the food was OK, they really couldn't handle the rush of people. Our food took forever, they ran out of one of the dishes and never told us and we cancelled the replacement dish after waiting 20 minutes for it.
Very bad experience! Servers touch all utensils with their bare hands because you don't see them clean their hands. Rude attitude too!
Amazing food! Must try!
My VERY ALL TIME FAVORITE CHINESE food restaurant!!!! No one else compares! #1 for over 20 years! The BEST Kung Pao Chicken (that's MY dish!) and BEST Orange Chicken (husbands FAV).... we also get Pork Fried Rice and once in awhile Mu Shoo Pork! Oh my goodness So So Delish! Everyone MUST TRY Chinese Friends if they love CHINESE food! I promise you won't be disappointed!
Great scene for tasty Chinese food. Visited Fri evening I think. Food is like a restaurant in Louisville I loved.
So, I've been back a couple of times since my last review due to the close proximity to our house. I have to to say, they've upped their game. The food is MUCH better than it used to be. The curry chicken is actually really good. I'm not sure what changed within their operation, but the food sure changed for the better.
The best restaurant to go eat
Has been our favorit for the las 3 décadas
I've been going here since I was a child. When I was a child, my family and I didn't dine out often so I will always remember Chinese Friends Restaurant. As I got older, I still remember enjoying the food here so whenever I'm in the mood for some family style Chinese food, this is the place I go. My family and I love the kung pao chicken, Mongolian beef, crispy chicken with lemon sauce, hot & sour soup, mixed veggies and mu shu chicken. This is the usual list of items we order when we dine here or whenever we order for take out. For special occasions like Father/Mother's Day or one of my parents' birthday, more often than not, my siblings and I order food from here; it's delicious! Yum! The restaurant itself is quite small so order for take out whenever you can. The parking is validated in the small lot just outside the restaurant. I don't dine there often anymore (usually take out), but from what I remember the employees are friendly and helpful. I love this place!
House special shrimp and orange chicken and Shanghaj noodles were our favorites and the hot and sour soup/ sizzling rice soup too. The shrimp is perfectly cook crispy and the sauce is sweet, salty and alittle spicy. The orange chicken is exactly the same. The shanghai noodle is fried thick noodle and they are not crispy but it is delicious here. The other dishes here look pretty good too (Szechuan pork).
Haven't had one bad thing at this place. I only order off the lunch menu. Hunan chicken/beef, Kung Pao, Generals, all tasty. free soup. Under $7.00. jackpot.
Love there food
Best Orange Chicken that you will ever eat!!! Hands down!!!
Service was wonderful. Food impeccable. We had the kung pao chicken minus the peanuts, egg rolls, and pan fried noodles with veggies!
I loved it
Very good food and great service
Food was good!! It can be quite pricey but it's worth going to if you like Chinese food!! Staff was friendly and attentive even tho I went out to dinner last minute!! Great service!!
I've been going to this restaurant for years. The Shrimp Fried Rice us my favourite. Always fresh, full of shrimp and authentically made. Very delicious!!!!!
The restaurant is located in a strip mall and can be really hard to spot if you're not looking for it. Luckily there is a parking lot next to it that normally costs $5. The restaurant will validate so you will only have to pay $1. The restaurant is small and very clean inside compared to most other Restaurants in Chinatown. Service was great as we were asked multiple times by different waiters on what we would like to order. The hostess/manager is always sitting in the front of the restaurant ready to close your bill. However if you ask a question she will not come to your table but would prefer to talk over the restaurant. I ordered the combination fried rice which is nice and lighter compared to others as they don't use soy sauce. Some chunks of meat do have cartilage which will catch you by surprise. I also ordered the ground pork vermicelli that had very thick noodles and had a more chewy texture than vermicelli found elsewhere. There was barely any pork in the dish, and the pork tasted as if it was boiled with the vermicelli.
Bewt Chinese food in LA, must try the sizzling rice.
The staff is always friendly. The food is so good!
Been coming here since I was a kid, now my adult kid's could say they've been coming here since they were little kids, and although we've relocated over an hour away we still come and enjoy the wonderful authenticity of the food. Been a customer for over 36 years!!
Chinese food, mmm, so fresh. i give this spot two thumbs up. the service here is great. i can see why they have a lot of positive reviews.
great food, fast service, the bestest
The food was awesome. I really recommend this place. And parking it's 1 dlls for 1 hour with validation.
Love it
Find food for the best in LA
A bit expensive but quick service
I would definitely recommend this place. The food was delicious. Can't wait to go back.
I almost died from a foodgasm!! It was so damn good!!! Seriously, The best damn food I ever ever had and I've a lot of damn Chinese food!! Seriously go here!!!
chinese food, yeah, very delicious. Visited near twelve, it was not full. The staff was very welcoming and observant. Prices are fair I would say.
It's been our favorite place for Chinese food for many many years. Excellent and consistent.
This is my Favorite Chinese Restaurant! I have been going there for twenty years and the food has always been hot, delicious and satisfying. They serve their entrees with hot tea, and orange slices and fortune cookies. I have never gotten sick from their food and I usually order a to go order for the road after my dinner since it is so good I eat all of it!
My favorite place
Great food authentic Chinese!
I'm 31. Been coming here for 30yrs. My parents brought me at the age of 1. GREAT food! Very little wait time for food to come out once ordered.
Best authentic Chinese food ever! Hands down no lie. There is nothing to complaining about this restaurant. I highly recomend the House Special Shrimp (my favorite since I was a kid). I do not quite know the names of the plates since my family is the one who orders them. The soup with the fried rice is super delicious, also try the compound chicken and shrimp. White rice with shrimp and eggs, noodles with vegetables and many many more.
Love their food, specially their shrimp with peanuts!
Really Great food, great atmosphere. Highly recommend this place.
