Very good food, indeed. A good deal waiting time to be seated, but worth the wait. Simple dishes, great taste!
Chengdu Taste might be the favorite place for who love big portion and spicy oily food. I recommend to try braised roasted pork leg. It is so good, a bit of oily, mixture and beauty of tender pork skin fat and meat. Don't forget to order hot tea instead of ice water. It will be perfect with spicy oily food.
Solid authentic Sichuan food. Get ready for spice, both hot and numbing. Go with a couple friends and a good appetite. The portions are big. The pork with garlic sauce, the eggplant, and the string beans are 3 of the best Chinese dishes I've had in LA. This is not your typical American style Chinese food, the kung pao here doesn't taste much like what you're going to find at Panda Express. This one has fresh ginger and vinegar and spice just like you'll find in the city they take their name from. The restaurant is relatively small so the wait can be rough, but you can always get takeout.
Great!
As expected it is not for those who shy from spicy foods. But that said, each dish has a varying level of spice and hotness, so y will get a very nice variety of heat that goes well with the protein or vegetables
Awesome spicy Chinese food
Opens late. Spices everywhere. Nice variety. Not as good as it used to be. Competitors abound. There are a couple that are close in term of quality, but this one is still slightly better.
Cumin lamb, green beans, mung bean. Delicious!
Authentic Chinese food Chengdu style. One of my wife's favorites.
Hot oil dumplings incredible
Authentic and great flavors.
Hot in...Hot out... If you're going to light my butt on fire, at least take me out on a nice date first. Buy me flowers and chocolates, pick me up, take me out to a nice candlelit dinner. Common courtesy right? Be a gentlemen about it. This location is so much hotter than the Rosemead location. Trust me, my butt was complaining for the next couple days. He was so angry at me I had to send him an official apology letter a private carrier thru the mail. After that he was still angry at me so I was a gentlemen about it and took him out on a date. I just couldn't stop eating the chicken in spicy oil though. So good. Why the line?! Kept wondering why this place always had a line. I know how, it has enough seats for a south El Salvadorian family. You figure it out. On top of that the service is so slow, the entire time we were there not a single table finished. So don't think that just because a place has a line means it's a great spot.
Really spicy for me. I needed lots of rice and water to wash it down! My favorite dish was the Tofu with Peas!
Best spicy Chinese food in California...so yum! It could be even better if they serve alcohol. Because the food were spicy, I needed cold beer.
Was so excited to try this place that I took myself out to lunch. Worth it for the leftovers! Every other table had at least four people, which seems like more of an ideal scenario because you get more things! Stuck with two simple dishes and they are both must-gets! Toothpick lamb- little bit of fat and a small amount of crisp. A whole lot of spice. Never had anything like it- in short, it was fantastic! (Side note, it makes an excellent leftover!) Dan Dan noodles here are very peanut-y. If you like pad Thai, you will like this version. Enjoyed the simplicity but uncompromising flavor of this dish. I need to remember to order mild spicy! It was a lot for me to handle ::foodsweats:: Will return to try it all again at a slightly lower spice level.... rookie mistake
Best Sechuan food in the city no question, arguably in the entire state. Top 3 fav restaurants in LA
Awesome Szechuan Cuisine
My wife and I ate here today . Chengdu taste is The best choice for authentic Sichuan Chinese food ... the food is excellent as well as the service
This is authentic szchuan style. Best in LA
The food is famous for their spicy. The rice can he refilled for free. The service is timely. The price is a little expensive
Great
Okay taste long wait for table and then long wait for food
Toothpick lamb and chili wontons are the best. I could eat them every day. I wish they were open earlier so that I can eat them more often.
We were craving spicy food and this is the winner. We had toothpick lamb with cumin, flourless pork belly and crispy shrimps with ground pork french fries. It is really delicious. The pork belly was just ok but the other 2 dishes was a hit. We will have to try the other dishes next time.
Small hole in the wall that is always busy. Get there early because you will wait. Authentic Sichuan. Love love love the mapo tofu.
Authentic Chengdu flavor food
The food was okay. It was spicy which I like but it wasn't overly spicy. Had 8 dishes and was only really fond of the eggplant and toothpick lamb. The rest were just okay.
Really great food.... Authentic Chinese....
Lamb in toothpick! This place is a must for that one dish!! Cuminy, fatty, spiced lamb bits are all the hype! We also ordered the Chengdu rice which was interesting and beef with young ginger and kung pao shrimp ...bit of which were way tooo overpowering with the schezuan peppers. We couldn't eat it due to the excessive amount of peppers they added. If you don't mind that strong taste and numbing effect then this place is def for you!
This is one of the nicest Szechuan places in LA. The food is simple, but excellently prepared. They hit a lot of the classics well (ma po tofu, vinegar potatoes, fish flavoured pork, and couple's beef slice), and run off in a lot of fun, new directions (the green szechuan boiled fish). It's not my favourite. I like the more rustic and funky tastes at Yunnan Garden better. But if you want not-too-spicy, very numbing, cheap, elegant, and delicious; this is the place.
Guess guess, what a freaking combo! Speed of service. Expect a long wait, one well worth it.
You want spicy.... This is the place, it is beyond spicy. Great menu. Good service. Will be back.
very special. "numb chicken" was an incredible and unique dish. worth driving a distance for. worth making several visits.
All of the foods we ordered were very good. Especially I liked the fried pork.
This still remains to be the best Sichuan restaurant in Los Angeles.
Good Chinese food
If you like spicy food come get it!
Very authentic, meaning either you love Sichuan food or not you will have an awesome culinary experience. their mouth numbing dumpling was really fun, their lamb shanks were amazing. Very flavor full, absolutely amazing experience.
Wierd and unique. Probably won't go back, but definitely try once so you can check it off the list.
Great place always going back
This is THE spot to go to if you want to try some real Chinese food. The food was SO GOOD. Faqs and advice for patrons: They have non-Chinese-friendly menus The wait is long so reserve your spot in advanced online. The food is made fresh so expect a wait. The prices are high but the portions are huge so go with a group and order a couple of things to share. The food is spicy so if you’re sensitive to it, make sure to ask for less spicy.
Everything was good - the rabbit had some bones in it which we weren’t expecting, but the sauce was awesome. The Dan dan noodles were great. Spicy tofu was really good. Didn’t have to wait too long. Street parking was easy to find.
Really good. The Toothpick Lamb was a surprise and a highlight. It was very tasty, well seasoned and a delight because I don't usually order lamb at many places. The Boiled Beef in Hot Sauce was the main reason for our visit and was really good. We were actually expecting it to be spicier but that's okay because it was so good. We also ordered the Sauteed String Beans which I would highly recommend. Spicy and good flavors. I also ordered the Twice Cooked Pork Fried Rice which was awesome.
I got sick
I got the Sichuan hotpot last time I was here and even asking for the mild broth, I suffered repercussions for days thereafter. The oiliness and spiciness of Sichuan food have that effect on me. This time, my friends ordered and it has been a better experience.
Too spicy.
Worth the price.
Awesome place for thai cuisine, spicy and super yummy
Good place. Not as good as Sichuan impression in my honest opinion.
Ginger chicken was amazing. Big portions and HOT! So check your heat tolerance for sure.
Spicy and amazing. Expect to stand in line but the wait is more than worth it. Order the toothpick lamb. Tan tan noodles vary in flavor and heat but don’t disappoint. The pork crura is great as well. The water boiled fish here is top notch
Deliciously authentic
Spicy wontons dumplings are really good but everything else is just alright. Catered to the American palate
Love all their food and it's not too spicy.
Very good food from China and not the usual plates, tasty
Great Schezwan Style restaurant with large portions and plenty of hot dishes. The tooth pick lamb was a real hit with our group.
Very tasty spicy food!
Always good.
The food here is absolutely delish. Try the Toothpick Beef dish (cumin flavored) and the fish in chili sauce!
Finally the real thing
My parents love this place, and have been bugging me to take them back. They are not easily pleased, but the herbs in the food really impressed them.
Must taste if you like authentic Chinese food.
Can't get the chengdu flavors out of my mind
Excellent and worth the trip.
Delicious!
Disappointed for supposedly the best Sichuan food in LA, but I've been spoiled by living in China and Vancouver.
First time, definitely not the last.
Very authentic Chengdu Cuisine. But not as spicy as we went last time.
Great food, good service, reasonable prices.
There’re 2 different branches, be aware!
Best Chinese in America
Wait for too long, people come after go first
This place is AMAZING! Really authentic Szechuan food. Very spicy but not a typical Hispanic pepper type spice, more of a savory mouth tingling numbing. Definitely give it a try.
There is no progress....
Food taste pretty good. Everything was really oily including their non spicy food. Szechuan impression has better tasting food for around the same price and it's less than a mile away.
Good service, good taste, genuine sichuan dishes, reasonable prices.
Spicy! Yeah!
Like no other Chinese food. Lamb toothpicks are a must.
Very nice restaurant! All the foods taste very authentic. However, there always a long wait, so come early to get your table.
Hot hot hot
The place has really gone down hill in just a few years... maybe qualify of food has gone down or more new places opened up with better tasting Sichuan food. Whatever it is the place is just so empty and not good anymore
Enormous servings. Pleasant and courteous service. We were overwhelmed by the delicious smell of authentic Chinese food when we opened the door. Loved this place.
Epic-ly good! The fish in green chili sauce had a really delicate broth underneath the oil that was so subtle and tasty. Also got the thin sliced pork in golden sauce which was also flavorful. We ordered the toothpick lamb which was good, but other places do it better. Will definitely come back again!!
(Side note, it makes an excellent leftover!) I understand why it was consistently on Jonathan Gold's 101 Best. The toothpick lamb is just spicy enough. And the eggplant is the best I have ever had.
Oh my God this food is fabulous I definitely will be back!!
The taste was soso big portions
That's a lot of szechuan chilli oil
All kinds of spicy good!
Sorry, no photos. Ate it all. Couldn't give 4.5 stars for inadequate seats and a long wait. But having said that, the toothpick lamb made up for everything. Food is excellent. Service is fast. Go. Early.......OK: Update! I went early for Mother's Day. I tried to control myself so I could snap a photo for you. Everyone takes photos of the Toothpick Lamb (a must order), but I had some Fish, Mapo tofu, and the green beans too. Enough leftovers not to have to cook this week. Enjoy!
Taste delicious especially if you like spicy food.
I would have given a zero if I could. We were from out of state and my friend recommended this place. We arrived around 7:30pm on a Saturday. A lot of people were waiting already. Since my friend recommended this place we decided to wait. After waiting for more than one and half hours, I saw a waiter let his friends cut in right under my nose. I questioned him why. He said they had made reservation before. However I heard him ask his friends how many they were RIGHT UNDER MY NOSE. Can't stand this level of service especially considering there are so many good Chinese restaurants around. We left right away and ended up having great Chinese food (Hunan) at a different restaurant.
Worth the wait just for the cumin lamb! I can eat half the plate by myself! Every noodle dish I have had here is delicious. I like the dried string bean's with pork as well.
Food very good.
Some amazing flavors but way way too much MSG!
Love the food here!
The food here is so good! Yes, they have spicy food. But it's also quite delicious. Their fried rice is also pretty good even though it's not spicy. You can ask them to make something not so spicy if you want to. The quality is excellent, and so is the service! I'm surprised to see how many non-chinese there were eating there. The spicy fish and lamb barbecue sticks quite good. So is the Chengdu fried rice.
My best favorite:D
Love Chengdu Taste. Crave it actually. Have to eat here on a regular basis or I go through withdrawal. My husband and I love to introduce friends to this special dining experience. I need to experience more of the menu but the double fried pork with leeks, the boiling fish in green pepper sauce, the toothpick cumin lamb and mapo tofu are no just so delicious it's hard to pass them up each time we come. By the way, the food is just as good if you choose to take it out. You might perfer this as sometimes the wait can be long for a table.
Decent place for some spicy Szechuan food. Highly recommend the boiled fish in spicy sauce. The toothpick lamb is also pretty good but some of the meat was a bit hard. The spicy wonton dish was not spicy at all, actually kind of sweet, I remember it being much more spicy in the past.
Great food, but quite hot and oily.
So not Sichuan taste. A very terrible place to eat
Had lunch today at this Restaurant. Ordered three different dishes, one of beef, one of fish and one of shrimp. ALL were overly greasy and extremely salty. Would neither go back nor recommend to anyone unless someone likes greasy and salty food. Totally disappointed.
Good
"Good food, good service, reasonable prices."
Great toothpick lamb!!!!!
always favorite! everytime we back here must go!very reasonable price!
Waiting for a table for 45minutes, finding out they had removed me from the list because my "party" was to small. Terrible
This place is really good. They are always pack with customers, especially on weekend nights.
5 star for the food. Have to say, as a Chinese myself, the food is authentic Szechuan. Just thinking about it now makes my mouth water. The price is reasonable, and the serving of the dishes is big. 3 Star for the service. The service is fast and is minimally satisfactory but is nowhere near good. The service staffs seem to be very stressed out and would not bother ask you how the food is or at least take your order with a smile. Also, sometimes the chef forget to put some side ingredients and you’ll have to tell the service staffs ASAP, or they will argue with you and say you just ate them. Overall: 4 stars.
Was told by my Chinese friend and his friend that this is the most authentic Sichuan restaurant in town, and I believe them. The signature green pepper sauce is exquisite and is like nothing I've had before, thought definitely not for the light of heart!
mouth... still... numb... if szechuan is your thing ... then this place is a must...
Its pretty dank
The wait can be long, but the food is super delicious. Prices range from reasonable to pricey, but worth the occasional treat-yourself moment
So good!!
The best Sichuan food we have ate in CA include SF and bayarea.
Best Sichuan food in LV. All dishes are tasty. Must try if you like spicy food.
Twice cooked pork is my favorite and this place delivers well. Fast service and good portions. If I lived closer I’d be delivering from this place 24/7!
Delicious!!
Great food.
Best part of the entire meal was the rice! Very good, high quality white rice (didn't know that was a thing)! Friends ordered green beans, super spicy tofu type stew, cabbage and beef, lo mein. Would return for the tofu and the rice.
Best Szechaun restaurant that I've been to. The line was long but moved very quickly. The chili oil broth was flavorful with all the spicy numbness from the peppers. Ordered the appetizer sticks with red oil, lamb skewers and beef brisket in green sauce. I prefer the red sauce over the green sauce and the lamb dish was the star of the meal.
This place RULES. Classic szechuan fare. A delight! Be prepared for a wait because it's a small and popular space
Truly amazing. There is a reason this is such an iconic Sichuan restaurant. Get the toothpick lamb and the boiled fish in green pepper sauce.
We ordered 8 dishes for 8 people, which was just way, way too much. But we were very satisfied and had lots of leftovers! From what I can remember, we ordered the cold skewers, garlic fried rice, boiled Szechuan fish, jelly noodles, ma po tofu, eggplant, and green beans. Everything was delicious! Numbing and spicy!
If you don’t like spicy, this is probably not the place for you. The food was a little too saucy and salty but overall the flavors are good
Amazing food
Delicious authentic Chinese cuisine.
I have seen a lot of better sichuan restaurants
Went there last night and tried two new dishes: Chile Hock & Spring Onion with Chkn, Hock had Chile with numbing and the Spring Onion (pictured green sauce) had spring onion sauce with numbing flavor and was a cool preparation. Both delicious!
The Sichuan peppercorn was overpowering in all of the dishes that we ordered: mung bean noodles, Kung pao chicken, and the fish in oily broth. I enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine but felt that the spice level of the peppercorn distracted from all flavors. The chef has lost the balance of flavors that added this restaurant to so many critiques list.
Amazingly spicy and tasty. Just as good as the one in Vegas
Definitely spicy and seems rather authentic from my experience in Chengdu
Delicious food. Use their yelp waitlist.
What can be said about this place that hasn't already been said? Best Sichuan food in the United States.
Chopstick lamb is a bomb but it is priced really high
Larger portions (or at least It think so) than Szechuan Impressions. Crazier line. Good food.
Expensive but worse tasty not like before
A very popular Chinese restaurant on Valley Blvd., Chengdu Taste is a great place to go when you are in the mood for spicy cuisine. While not a good choice for vegetarians owing to the paltry choices, it otherwise offers a good selection of dishes with a variety of meats: chicken, frog, beef, lamb, and fish. I highly recommend the sliced fish in red chilli sauce, as well as the spicy wontons. Another delicious item is their spicy beef noodles soup. The Beef in Mom's Preserved Spicy Sauce is good, but comes across as too vinegary for some. It has a flavor reminiscent of Tabasco. Another popular entree is the toothpick lamb with cumin. Personally, while I love lamb, I'd say here it is a little gristly..and fishing amongst the red peppers for tiny toothpicks with nubbly bits of lamb gets tiring. Service is adequate, but not particularly friendly. No alcohol is served.
Really authentic Chinese food
Ohhh all those Sichuan peppercorns swimming in the broth of the green chili boiled fish, mouth-numbing citrusy juniper aroma. So good and so unique. The cold garlic noodles were perfect to cool off the fire but some other patrons were drinking yogurt. Whatever helps you enjoy the spicy and yet bursting in flavor dishes. We ordered the green beans (amazing), toothpick lamb (amazing), and the incredible boiled fish with all the Sichuan peppers your mouth can handle.
Authentic
Dishes are mostly spicy, you can count on your fingers the number of dishes that are not spicy. The place is clean. They spray and wipe the tables with what looks like a clean rag. I hate tables that are sticky or oily so that was a plus. The dishes that we ordered tasted good. HOWEVER, customer service somewhat sucks. They don't come to check to see if you need anything else. The wait was too long in between the dishes so the food was already cold by the time the last dish came. I already lost my appetite. So only 3 stars for me this visit.
I love the good here. True Szechuan taste, which is really what I was craving. Top 2 Szechuan restaurant I've had in the US.
Pretty good taste. The lost one point is waiting line is too long.
Long wait but it’s very delicious! Tips #1 you can join the waitlist on yelp to save your wait time in store. Tips #2 the plate size is very big! Be aware of this especially if you are just visitor to LA.
Decent Chengdu food
One of my favorite Sichuan restaurants. Must order the green pepper fish! Portion is big ... so it’s better to go with a group.
Love the spicy mouth numbing jelly noodles. Great meat skewers!! If you love the mouth numbing szechuan peppercorns, this is the place to go. Great for crowds and family style gatherings. You won't be disappointed.
Superb region that simply opened up! bird wings hit the spot. personnel may be very pleasant virtually going to come back returned to attempt other things off their menu
Really authentic!
Wonderful place and tasty food . ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
So good!
Easily one of the best Chinese cuisines in town, Huge portions and very affordable price. Toothpick Lamb with Carrion is the best but everything else is tasty too. My girlfriend is from Chengdu and she recognizes the restaurant as authentic, What else can you ask for? Seating is very limited so expect long wait time on weekends, Service can be a bit slow at times. Parking on the street and there are few more spaces on the back. They only take Visa and Master cards, No Discover or AE.
always a safe choice for spicy sichuan fooooood!
Great for anyone into spicy Chinese food
There is a very stark difference between this Chengdu and the one on Rosemead. The overall food quality at this one is lacking. Cumin lamb is so over seasoned with cumin and the meat quality is tough. Spicy wontons were not spicy but sweet. Why? The glass noodles in the sour pork soup were so overcooked they were mush. The soup base lacked balance, I'd not order it again. Go to the Rosemead Chengdu Taste instead. Everything we got from there was above and beyond stellar. Any glory this place use to have is long gone.
