Found my new favorite BBQ joint! I had the Pulled Pork Plate with a side of Beer Battered Onion Rings, BBQ Wedding Beans, Caesar Salad, and Jalapeno Cornbread. What an amazing flavor experience! Service was very cordial and attentive. The food was brought out I'm a short time and presentable. The place has TVs and a bar where you can enjoy sports. Seating available inside and out. Outdoor dining is pet friendly. Ample parking along the left side of the driveway. So many attractive menu items, I'll have to come back more frequently to try them all. So glad to have found this locally. (Now I don't have to drive all the way out to Phil's. Lol!)

Best brisket this side of the Lone Star State. For a party, we ordered a big pile of brisket along with the wedding beans and jalapeno cornbread, all to great acclaim. The staff is super friendly and will gladly accommodate if there's an issue.

Extremely quick service with decent BBQ. Went in with a large group and one waiter handled approx 22 people very quickly and we all received our food correctly and quickly. The food is good and the price is fair plus they're dog friendly and not overly packed just the food didn't stand out to me but that's a personal thing all in all good experience.

The best BBQ restaurant I have ever ate at. My experience was phenomenal. The servers were very nice and friendly. There appetizers could easily be a whole meal. The smoked ribs fall right off the bone and are to die for. Prices may be a little spendy but the food is worth every Penny. Definitely going back!

Their cajun rub wings are everything! All of their martinis are delicious but I'm partial to the Troy St. Tini. Thursdays during happy hour is when I usually go with a group, but of course that's also when it's super busy so staff sometimes aren't the most attentive to our needs, depending on who we get (we have our favorites). Their Cobb salad is also pretty good but it doesn't come with croutons so you have to ask for them. They have a good black bean burger. I've yet to try their ribs, which are next on my list...oh wait it's Thursday! Guess where I'll be after work??

Another very pleasant hidden treasure of San Diego. This neighborhood sports bar and restaurant has been a jewel for years. The staff and crew are very family like. if you didn't know any better you would think they were family. The treatment I received there is excellent as well as the food. it's a wonderful neighborhood place to go and watch a game, have a few drinks, or enjoy the fantastic BBQ. I also go there quite often for breakfast. Fantastic breakfast.

I am bias cuz owners are my friends. But also i am very critical to places that offer food. Some of the very best chicken wings I ever tried.BBQ kings and nice selection of beers. Owner is very community orientated. Supports sports and organize or contribute in organization of some of the very cool BBQ events. I would say - stick your face in those wings and help San Diego to keep our sport teams and events going on. Good job, Shawn

After a long comic con weekend we went to yelp to decide where our last dinner would be. Cali Comfort BBQ came up and we drove on over. There was a little bit of a wait before we were seated. Hostess was very friendly. Sat down and saw on menu was the usual BBQ fare. I ordered the Tru tip plate. Wife got rib tip sammich and her BFF got the rib tip plate. Daughter got the cheese burger kids meal. Food came out and we can definitely taste why they have over a 4 star rating. Beans were great and their sauce was amazing. Our server was equally great as the food. They were very attentive. Refills etc were on point. Will definitely be back whenever we are in San Diego again. Probably next comic con.

My neighborhood place for breakfast! They offer plenty of seating and televisions for sports. This is a fun atmosphere to be in when it's a good game! There is no pretentious vibes here whatsoever. Just a neighborhood, blue collar type of place with traditional yummy breakfasts. They are known for their pork sandwiches too. They also serve a good bloody mary with a solid kick to it!

One of the best BBQ places in San Diego. I had the combo plate with brisket and tri tip and they were both perfectly cooked. Had beans, fries and onion rings as sides and as much as they're regular items, they were outstanding. Very good customer service and relatively quick wait times. Service is slow on a Tuesday evening. I can't imagine how it is when they're busy. Don't come here unless you have time to kill! Had to wait 10-15 minutes just to be seated in the empty patio. Thank goodness there were portable heaters for heat.

I would love to give this place 5 stars. On my first ever visit I was expecting pure greatness based on what friends have experienced. After entering the bathroom it did not resemble a bathroom that should be in a restaurant. I will leave it at that. Other than that the brisket and tri-tip is super good. Personally I like a really good batch of fries to go with my BBQ. I tried them cold and hard as well as hot and crispy. Not a fan. As far as staff went, they were semi friendly but willing to correct things when asked. This is an interesting place. I may give it another go just to compare.

Friendly employees and good food. Meat is smoked, and not smothered with sauce, so I appreciated that. Very good sauce also served on the side, so customize to your desires. I subbed onion rings for the fries, def worth the extra dollar. My plate left me with enough to take home for a little snack later. One star off because they are a little pricey.

I've only been here twice. Both times were to watch a boxing match on their TVs. The inside looks like it was once a house converted to a restaurant. It's a restaurant sports bar. BBQ is their specialty. The food is tasty but not Austin Texas tasty. If you have ever been to Austin, you know what I'm comparing to. The employees at Cali Comfort are all welcoming and helpful. They treat you well. I do like that there is plenty of parking even during sporting events. Eat the ribs and watch your favorite sport.

I've been coming here for years, specifically for their Aztec burger. I always ask for it Medium-Rare, and it always comes out perfect. The customer service will consistently make you feel welcomed and appreciate, and they put so much attention to the customer experience. Cali Comfort has been such a consistent, quality restaurant for so many years that they don't really need this review, but whatever, this place earns every good review it gets.

Ordered delivery via DoorDash. Sandwich arrived cold. Sauce on the side was nice but it was not with my order. I thought I was getting two sides but was told I didn’t order the platter. Strange cause I thought I was and they asked me to pick two sides. The wedding beans are tasty maybe over cooked for my taste but flavorful. When I spoke to manager he said I would have to come in for any compensation and it would have to be at that time. Hmm if I wanted a pickup I would have done that. Not pleased with admin service. Food good but cold. Online service perhaps needs revamping.

Definitely a meat lovers place; brisket and ribs are always delicious. No longer a meat lover, I opted for the Cobb salad minus turkey n bacon. They do have a meatless Pattie but no crumbles. Salad was poor, don't bother. Salad greens from bag mix with lots of ends, sliced tomatoes v diced and simply not flavorful. I'm one enjoys salad and not the dressing but I used two of the little cups! House Red wasn't bad. We split an appetizer of chips salsa with guacamole. It was very good guac and ok salsa. Jar stuff. Dessert I ordered peach cobbler, very sweet but more like an apple crumble. I don't think I'll be returning, but my friends were happy and full from their meat hearty meals. SJ

1st time Patron. Finally decided to look the place up after many email invites. Ribs were good. Moist but not falling off the bone. Well seasoned. Sauce was okay- not too sweet or tangy. Chicken could have stayed on the grill a little longer- kind of tough. But those BBQ beans are the bomb! Worth the 25 minute wait time just for the beans alone. Overall good cafe style place to dine in or take out. I'll be back

Best BBQ in San Diego! If you think Phil's BBQ is any good, this place definitely raises the bar! I've been here a couple of times and it has not disappoint. FOOD: I've had a chance to try a couple of different items - the brisket is definitely a must-have, it melts in your mouth and is perfectly smoked. The sides that come with your plate are also all delicious. I'm not a huge fan of beans, but the wedding beans have made me a believer. The ribs were also delicious and fall off the bone. Pulled pork sandwich did not disappoint. The tri-tip was probably the only item that didn't impress, but everything else was great! AMBIANCE: On top of being a BBQ spot, it's also a sports bar, so it's a great place to catch any major sporting events. There are big screen TVs all over, so you can watch from any table you're at. One thing to note, if you do come during a major sporting event, the place can be pretty loud. Plenty of table and bar seating available, I've never had to wait very long for a table. The restaurant is located in a bit of a strange spot, and parking can be full during peak hours/weekends. CUSTOMER SERVICE: No complaints here, our hostess and waitress were both friendly and attentive. PRICE: The prices are a bit higher compared to Phil's, but in my opinion it's definitely worth it. If you're tired of Phil's ridiculously long lines and mediocre BBQ, Cali Comfort is definitely a must try!

So what’s the point of going over the meal and say you have the Mac n cheese for my county fair but you do not. Whenever I order something especially to go there is something missing, short, or just obviously wrong. Not sure what’s so hard to get food right. This was our first time here and I don't think we're ever going to come back. There is no AC there is no fried food and I ordered the brisket and it made my mouth dry cuz of how dry the brisket was. biting into the brisket was like biting into the Sahara desert it was terrible and I wanted to cry. Also there are a lot of secret charges like how the kids meals don't come with drinks but they ask you where drink they want and then they charge you extra for it. Food sucks atmosphere sucks it all sucks just sucks.

As BBQ in San Diego goes this place does a tasty plate with plenty of well cooked meat. In my quest for the best ultimate Que, Cali comfort comes in at a strong 8.5 out of 10. Which is tops for San Diego so far. Excellent cook on meat although a bit dry, the sauce didn't match the meat. Absolutely not a bad thing! Just more a preference for me. Great selection of draft beer, large portions good stuff!

Brisket was awesome. Place was a little packed on a friday. Just remember that they have a parking structure across the street and read the signs you dont want to be pulling into the neighbors driveway on accident. Honestly i felt this place was better than phills bbq. No hype just good food.

This is a go to BBQ when we are in San Diego. It is good quality meat with a variety of sides that can't be matched, much better than Phil's. Jalapeno corn bread is a winner. The location cannot be beat, wedged in between a retirement community and a used tire shop. You know it is good quality when it is full of people even though it's in a weird neighborhood. Staff is incredibly friendly and I recommend the British guy with dreadlocks, he has been our server 9/10 times and is a champ. Absolutely love this place!!!!!

I had the Brisket Benedict, the brisket has some awesome smoke on it that really packed a flavor punch. The hollandaise sauce was phenomenal. The entire dish was $14, and was super filling coming with the brisket, a bisket, two poached eggs, and potatos/hash browns. I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants a really hearty meal

Service and burger was as good as anyone could expect. The fries were cold, stale and dry. Probably sat around for hours.(yes they were that bad). Just rather save pennies and have customer's dissatisfied and leave hungry. I know food cost is a consideration for profitability but so is customer satisfaction. My guess is many of those 5 star reviews are from inebriated people.

Parking can be difficult. Service was painfully slow. After being seated, we didn't get to order drinks for 10 minutes, almost walked out. The food was good hot, but later in the day, not so much. My son's burger was dry and overcooked, ordered as medium-well but received as beyond well done and server was no where to be found until time to leave so didn't bother trying to get it corrected. Very expensive. If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, this is NOT the place. If you have lots of time waste, then give this place a try. I might be willing to give this place another try, but it will likely be 6-months to a year before I attempt to go back, if I ever do. Not sure if I would recommend but would more/less list it as an option and throw out a few cautions before sending someone there.

I came here for the first time this evening and it will most likely be my last time too. I came in and ordered a tri-tip sandwich and fries to-go and waited on the front benches for over 35 minutes before I finally went up to the counter to ask about the wait. They told me one fryer was broken so my fries were not done and that’s why it was taking so long. It would’ve been nice if they had told me sooner and then offered to change my side so I wasn’t waiting around. Finally got the food and the tri-tip was dry as heck and so gristle-y that I could hardly chew it. I ended up spitting out about as much as I put down. And after all that, the fries were cold and soggy. Poor quality for a high price tag. I’ll look elsewhere next time.

Pretty cool place. The food is great, and the drinks are pretty good, too. The happy hour deals are fantastic. It can get a tad busy, and it is a sports bar, so if you aren’t into that, it can be a tad annoying. There isn’t a great dessert selection, but what they have is pretty good. The staff is nice, too.

The staff take pride in his work. They do polite checking on tables and the food is really good. I loved their broth!

Food was very good, service was professional. My friends ribs were overcooked (mine were perfect) Waiter returned the ribs to the kitchen no questions asked. A manager brought a new rack within a few minutes that were cooked to perfection with apologies from the house. Well done Calif Comfort BBQ.

This was my first time here and I DC you know my reviews you know I like bbq and steaks in general. I got rib tips a lot of stuff on plate , but a lot you couldn't eat . To many fragments to pick through . It got sort of gross,playing with it. Wife wouldn't touch it. I was told about the wedding beans by hostess, that it was good . I couldn't tell you , it was forgotten and not it bag. 4.99 lost. Wife had tri tip which was good . I will try again

A really good samwhich

Excellent food, loved the Brisket, pulled pork and tri-tip the best but everything was very good. It was our first time here so we did the tailgaters feast. It comes with some of everything. Loved the cornbread. Cocktails and service were on point. We will definitely be back!

This place was disgusting and over-rated and here's why. Firstly: Chris my server was so rude, aggressive, and overly obvious that he didn't want to be at work or work here at all. Secondly, the food was horrible, I was expecting the same quality as Coops or Phil's but the chicken was lack luster, it had no real flavor and was extremely dry... The Mac N' Cheese had a weird flavor I'm not sure what that was about... Finally: This place is so expensive, look at my photo of my receipt. Sorry but this is the worst BBQ place I've had in San Diego thus far; it must be surviving because there isn't much competition in the area.

Happy hour has a great selection on appetizers and great drink specials! My fav appetizer is BBQ pulled pork loaded nachos with habenero sauce!

Personally I did not like the rib tips that I had. I give the rib tips a thumbs down. But the fries were great. Being that, it was my first time eating there. This is just my opinion on the rib tips. So I cannot make a opinion on any other meal that I have not tried yet. But next time I will try the wings.

Great food always! The service is usually spot on. The night I came in I was seated & told it was happy hour still so we ordered a couple of items off of the appetizer menu. When the bill came, it did not reflect the half off discount. The server said it was no longer happy hour. We said it was happy hour when we sat down then stomped off with the bill. He had someone else bring us the revised bill. We still tipped him on the original amount of the bill so we hope his attitude changed for the better after that. We always have a great time here!
