This place is not super clean and I don't understand the hype about it. Maybe it is just the bakersfiels location? I know people were so happy it was coming to Bakersfield but it is basically an upscale Denny's. There is generally a wait here at busy times which is understandable. I guess give it a shot, but let go of any hype you have heard.

Food took forever to come out, then one of our party didn't get their food until everyone was almost done, then they didn't bring part of our order, then didn't fill up our drinks, and part of the order was under-cooked, the waitress spoke to us like maybe 5 times. Over all not a great trip to black bear.

When I say fast, I don’t mean fast food. This is home cooking you will come back for many times. I’ve had allot of things on the menu and they’re great. But, don’t skip the soups and desserts, they are a perfect compliment to a 5 star meal.

Every Black Bear Diner I've visited has been nothing but the best from the instant you walk through the door, until you leave. Incredibly nice staff and great cooks . Fellas, definitely take your girl here to eat! Females might not say it, but we love good food, and this place has LOTS OF GOOD FOOD! But don't worry, the prices wont drain your wallet. Try the pancakes, and the chicken fried steak, and any of the omelets.. they're all delicious! And oh.. let her pick out a mini pie to take home for dessert

The food was either too bland or too salty. My pasta was watery. I've been to the Black Bear several times and the food was great but the quality has steadily gone down. The waiter however was friendly and attentive, I felt bad for him since we left a lot of our food behind.

OMG Loved this restaurant! I went on vacation about a week ago, I'm from Washington State and joined my cousin for lunch there never been there and wow food was amazing, flavor was great, portions were large enough to fill u up! Couple of us stopped there for breakfast on our way back to LA. It was a crowded place even at 11 am for breakfast which is a good sign. Very friendly and nice restaurant. The coffee is average and honestly that is very important for me at breakfast, so I drop a star. Food was better than average, and my average being Denny's which I avoid if I could. I wouldn't take a date there and I think I'll try someplace different if I am driving through there again.

I am the owner of 4TH Demention Construction and a local guide. This place is so great not only is the pricing more than reasonable the staff does such an amazing job even when there busy. There are service animal friendly. Hmie the Waiter there is awesome. The portion sizes are absolutely huge most of you will get or need a to go box. From a 10oz burger to a huge toco salad this place definitely give you more than your money is worth. The flavor of everything I have ordered here witch is quite a bit because I return here often is spot on I give a thumb up

Have not been here in a couple years. Three of us had breakfast and all had fruit as a side. Unfortunately, we were all served melon that wasnt ripe and tough. Another plate had a raw in the center biscuit, but a great veggie omelette. Another had a great breakfast burrito. I ordered the corned beef hash, which stated slow cooked corned beef fried with potatoes. But, the corned beef was shredded and fried to the point that it was falling through my fork. I had to use a spoon and it was like jerky. The eggs though we're good. Just no consistency with the dishes. Did we hate our meals, no. But, you don't pay for a meal to skip portions on your plate. Staff was really nice and attentive.

We planned to go to the Black Bear diner on our way from Orange county to Stockton California. This one is located in Bakersfield and it was on our way. We arrived on a Saturday morning at around 8: 00 and it was fairly empty. We were seated immediately in a nice big comfy booth. We had the usual eggs and a waffle with bacon and sausage all was fairly good but I ordered scrambled eggs and got over easy eggs instead. The service is rather disinterested but just doing their job.I have to say it's probably the worst coffee that I have ever tasted. For a breakfast type restaurant that is not a good thing. The atmosphere is sort of schmaltzy but charming cabin in the woods style and it was fairly clean. The important thing is that I would not return again. It was just lackluster food service atmosphere and the coffee was less than lackluster.

Easy to find on California street. If you are north bound on highway 99 take the California exit and turn left. The Black Bear is a few blocks down on the right with lots of parking. Normal black bear great attentive service and good plain food at reasonable prices. Great for families with kids.

First time to eat at Black Bear Restaurant. The service was slow do too a lack of communication, but corrected immediately. The cooks were behind due to training new employees. It took 45 minutes to get our food. The food was excellent! All the waitresses were very cheerful! Extra training would always be a plus, and in other restaurants as well. We will go back! Mr. "G" They don't know how to make strawberry shortcake. They put a large biscuit with big pieces of strawberry in the middle with cool whip which was not fresh . No juice mixed with strawberries. I would like to show them how.The picture I showed is a salad! Perfect!! I just went back for the second time. It was very slow, but all the employees were very busy. I was greeted by two very nice employees, Yessica and Cynthia. Ordered "Bread Pudding" to take home. Delicious!! Try it, you'll love it!

Came to Black Bear Diner here in Visalia for breakfast like we do all the time. It is literally our favorite eatery. Not only because the food is has ALWAYS been great, but also because the staff has always gone above the call of duty to make each and every customer feel like family and service has always been exceptional (never had a bad experience). This mornings experience was even better. When we arrived, there was a homeless man in a wheel chair in the parking lot. We came in, were seated, and ordered. In the meantime, a customer walked in and asked to buy a cup of coffee for the homeless man. Just after this, the manager walked in from outside and stated he was making the homeless man a hot meal. This is why we come here. Not only for the food, but for the service and the family friendly, homestyle environment. Thank you Black Bear Visalia.

Wonderful experience with friendly service. The best thing I enjoyed was the rich history presented in all the decorative designs of the Diner experience. The menu style was original with the history on the front, reasonably priced breakfast, lunch, and dinner plates. Their deserts look amazing as well with their homemade beer claws! Few restaurants serve Eggs Benedict on a regular basis so when we called and they had it on the menu, we drove over to check it out. Food very well prepared, quick service and even though there were lots of customers, waiters were attentive. My only complaint would be the temperature of the food. Eggs were warm but country potatoes were VERY cold.

I love this Black Bear Diner, it's by far my favorite out of the several I've visited. I've always had a good experience here. The food is always delicious - waffles being my personal favorite. My friend and I went there for breakfast on 04/17/2019 . I asked for stake with no pink and eggs cooked over medium, potato deep fried , crispy bacon . I did not get any of them. It seems this place has no standard for quality , you would take your chance if the chef is in a good mood or not, I would never go back there nor recommend this place to anyone... I called the Number listed in the respond by Black Bear 2 weeks ago and I left my information with reception , NO ONE FROM BLACK BEAR CALLED ME BACK, so do not fall for that respond from Black Bear

Black Bear Diner went above and beyond for service. All our interactions from the hostess to the wait staff to the cashier made us feel welcomed and taken care of. When there was a small mistake with our order the waitress was already there when it came and promptly made sure it was fixed without us having said anything. The food was great too. First time trying huckleberry ice cream and I would highly recommend. It's a warm, whimsical, and welcoming place. Go visit!

I had a birthday meal. What is offered is a waffel or pancake, 2 sausage links or 2 strips bacon, and 2 eggs cooked as you like. Doesn't seem like much but was very filling. Good food. Other meal was ordered off the 'little less' menu. Once again you might think of a small sandwich with small fries. Nope. It was more than could be eaten at that time. Take home box. Fries were abundant and crispy outside and creamy inside. Tuna melt was ordered with sour dough bread. Very delicious. When we order off the regular menu, always a take home box. They are in line price wise with the other good eateries in town but here the portions are big. Will go back again.

Took grandkids for lunch. Pizza was raw and doughy, grilled cheese was cold toast with a slice of cold cheese in the middle. Ordered from adult menu and they brought a child's plate. Strawberry shortcake was a cold, hard biscuit with cool whip and sour sliced strawberries. It was dry and nothing to soften strawberries. Took almost 30 minutes to get our food. Bad food altogether

If i could give this zero I would. Waited 15 minutes for a table of 2.. fine. Then got sat and waited 20 minutes and never saw anyone. The table behind us, of 2, sat for 5 minutes and someone came to take their drinks. We ended up just walking out and wasting our time. Won’t ever go back.

Worst service! 10 min greet. Our server who was new was terrible and unprofesional. He messed up our order a lot of little mistakes. Never got my soup until I asked when food arrived. Bacon not crispy as requested and no cheese on potatoes. Never got my corn muffin. No drink refills. The topper is he told us he just left a managing position at Sizzler because his exwife filled for child support and the garnish was 900 bucks. What a great first time and probably my last!

Black bear dinner is a great place for breakfast. I recommend getting the scram-bowl, it comes with a homemade biscuit and white gravy. They serve large portions so you always have extras for next day lunch. They also serve hamburgers and dinner items. Very family friendly love this place.

Service is EXCELLENT. Mashed potatoes and gravy was mm mm good. So was the greens. However, the prime rib was very x 100 salty. Cant say much on the sauce as all I tasted was salty meat even with the sauce. I would probably comeback but would make sure to ask to go easy on the salt. Never tasted salty prime rib before, hope this is the last time.

Busy as every Sunday is. Had to endure sitting in a booth the other side of where they obviously gather all the dirty dishes. Every so often the LOUD clatter of dishes being added. Wife noted that we didn't get our bread that should have come with meal, and that the Chicken Fried Steak pattie seemed more processed versus prior servings.

This was a favorite place of mine, until my family visited with me. The waiter attempted to seat us at a less than preferable booth, so we politely asked to move to a different one. He agreed passively (as it was way off hours, like 3pm and no one else there hardly. We asked if he preferred we seat in a particular alternative area and he said in very pointed and passive aggressive fashion to a family member of mine something along the lines of: “Well no you don’t like what I pick anyway. You might as well pick it because if I pick it you will just ask to move again because it won’t be good enough”. Needless to say we left and I addressed him for his rudeness which he blew off, and as we left he leered in a grinning manner and gave a happy “Goodbye!” tauntingly. I am never coming back.

My brother introduced me to Black Bear Diner when I was in Bakersfield visiting. When you pull into the parking lot and see the hand-carved bears in from of the building, your stomach will rumble with excitement! Once inside, you are greeted with very friendly and welcoming staff, and a barrage of appetite fueling aromas! Also, while waiting for your table you can browse their gift section and cake selection. The menus are very unique, they are set up to look like old newspaper articles and have a lot of information on the history of the Black Bear Diner. Now to the food! When you plate arrives, the heaping serving sizes will intimidate you, but this is what you've waited and prepared yourself for! You can do this! The rest is history as you leave feeling like a Bear that just came out of hibernation! Continues to be one of my favorite restaurants!

Love this chain! I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience at any location. From Torrance to Bakersfield their quality remains consistent, the food and service are both reliable, and their charming newspaper menus entertain everyone of all ages. The last time I came here I was happy to just enjoy a huckleberry shake with my mother. If you haven't tried it yet, Try it! It's so yummy. And if you know someone else who hasn't either, try it together. It tastes even better with a friend.

Just left with probably one of the poorest experiences I've had in years. We are from West Tennessee and are traveling through. Looked up a local place to eat and this had great reviews. Food was good. 2 of us got our meals when the waitress informed us the 3rd meal was not on tonight's menu. That's when the waitress seemed to abandon us. We never complained, guess she knew it was poor service to treat someone like this. We also never got any refills. After waiting for the check, feeling like a hostage, we finally started out. I stayed behind to pay full price and tip $5. No offer to reduce the bill. I guess that's how it is on the left coast.

Now I don't know if I was supposed to ask for them runny or not but that wasn't a big deal for me. All their ingredients were fresh and tasty. Our waiter, Jaime, was outstanding. Our family went there today for a early Mother’s Day dinner and we were really disappointed. We went for the prime rib and we got there just after 4 pm. Only three of us wanted the prime rib and after we placed our order the waiter came back to let us know that they only had one prime rib. The reason was because they were so busy on Friday and ran out. I understand but the prime rib doesn’t start until 4 pm so they had all day to make some. This was very disappointing because we love your prime rib dinners.

Really disappointed with the food on 07/19/19 I’ve had Black Bear diner before and it was yummy.. but this time, it was terrible. The food was cold, undercooked, and was terrible on our stomachs. They forgot some of our food, and the wait time was long for a diner they said wasn’t really busy... there was one server and he was nice. I ended up not wanting my meal because it was undercooked and cold, also they did not offer a different dish... the flexibility doesn’t seem to be there. I was willing to get something else but I just got my money back because they didn’t offer. Very disappointed. NY Calm Chowder tasted very old, definitely not fresh.

Came with my mom for my birthday breakfast. I ordered the bacon breakfast, eggs over hard, bacon crispy with white toast and apple juice. The first time my food came out, the bacon was 'regular'. I asked them to fix it. About five minutes later, my toast is delivered and I ask for my food. The plate that is delivered has two sausage patties and over easy eggs. I let the runner know that wasn't mine. Four to five minutes later, a plate is delivered that has 'regular' bacon and scrambled eggs. I ask for the manager and he says he can get my food and won't charge me for my order. I point out that my mom is almost done with her food and I don't know if I even want my order anymore. He says he doesn't want me to leave without eating. I agree to let them try to get it right. A couple of minutes later, he is back with my order. The plate was there, they just kept missing it. I enjoyed my food, when I received it. When I'm almost finished, the waitress lets us know we're not being charged for my meal. I ask her to also take off the apple juice because I never received it. She says okay but delivers the apple juice, which I don't touch because I was drinking water with my meal. When we get to the register, I ask that the apple juice be removed and it was. They made errors with my order and I am satisfied that I did not have to pay for the meal. But, my birthday breakfast would have been so much better if the order was correct in the first place. We should have just gone to Tulare.

We stopped in to Black Bear Diner for an early lunch because we had a busy morning and we knew that the food is always consistent. We had a little bit of a wait, although we didn't know why because there were plenty of open tables. We both opted for breakfast entrees because it was still morning, and you can never go wrong with ordering breakfast. I ordered the Volcano, which came with 3 pancakes, 2 thick-cut smoked bacon and 2 scrambled eggs. My sister had the Waffle breakfast which came with bacon and 1 egg. Both breakfasts were a lot of food, and neither of us were close to finishing. Service was decent, the restaurant was clean and there is plenty of parking. Minus 1 extra star for the cracked coffee mug which is a total pet peeve of mine.

Grabbed the pick up bag and when I got to my car I realized they and I forgot to get the drinks. Went back into the diner to get the drinks and had to wait 13 minutes. Now I have 10 minutes to eat. I'm very frustrated

Best chicken fried steak and gravy in town! Nothing magic. Just good old comfort food... fried chicken, meatloaf, pot roast, they have it all. Cold, crispy salads, hot homemade soups and a million choices of homemade desserts. If you do get dinner be sure and ask for their homemade green beans. They make them just like your grandma did... with ham and the very best spices.

This location was just OK. Fairly close to the freeway for easy access. Parking wasn't that great though. Corned beef hash was delicious as usual. Problem is that they were a little stingy with it. Normally these more of the corned beef and less of the potatoes. Not sure if they changed they portion sizes or it was just this location. The potatoes and peppers were tasty, just seemed to serve as a filler. The wife had eggs Benedict. It tasted good but the poached eggs were a little under cooked. The Canadian bacon seemed to be extra salty. Over all it was still a decent meal. We'll probably skip this location next time though.

Very disappointed. Wait staff great. I had a huge green fly buzzing around my face and table the whole time I was there. I ordered the Cobb Salad what a letdown. The lettuce garnish was wilted and just in the way very unappealing. I asked for Turkey instead of crispy chicken. I got turkey it was just hard to find it on the plate. Very very small quantity. Everything was just chopped up and thrown on the plate. Hamburger size tomatoes cut in half, boiled egg. Chopped and slung on the plate, purple onion chopped and thrown on as well (very small amount), no avocado, sliced mushrooms (I've never had that before). Just not appeal g to the eye. I've always had a line of bacon,line of Turkey, whole boiled egg sliced with egg slicer, avocado, nicely sliced, nice bunch of diced Roma tomato, stacked of diced onion, and a thick line of crumbled blue-cheese. NOT ON THIS SALAD! GOOD FLA OR SALAD DRESSING. I might add this was the smallest and thrown together Cobb Salad I've ever been served. Not sure if it was off day for the cook or?? Won't be eAting here or ordering this salad any time soon. Ugh.

Order Chicken and Waffles... Chicken was tasting like onion powder and the waffle was spongy at best. I got a side salad and asked for ranch. When the ranch came there was chunks of onion in it I asked the waitress, are there onions in this Ranch? She says no sir that's bacon. I said no ma'am these are onions, and then proceeded to pick five or six onions out of the ranch. The soup was like water and the pesto was like minced up tasteless spinach. Not going back I totally messed up and didn't help me
