Uniquely L.A. Not good for groups of 3 or larger for to awkward seating though.

채식음식의 훌륭함과 집주인의 따뜻한 서비스에 감동입니다^^

Miachel Breton

Amazing.

Frances Zapanta

Unbelievably delicious food in a strip mall. Kimchi Fried Rice & Oxtail Ragu are a must. The food is worth double the price. I will definitely be back!

James Landay

Korean fusion! So good! Worth the trek.

Mariel Marin

deliciosa comida ,ambiente agradable muy limpio , buen sabor .

trevor briard

Be brave. It all sounds odd but tastes delicious

Gordon Trachtenberg

Don't get the hype.

Marine George

Excellent food at cheap prices - although the quality varies depending on your pick. Other cool fact: seasonal items for a change. My personal favorite: the Asian craze. MUST TRY.

Steve K

Delicious tendon puff's!

Janine Burke

Delicious food but expensive - one small plate of oxtail ragu and noodles was $15.00. Incredibly hard to find - the place has NO SIGNAGE and it is in a strip mall in an area of MANY STRIP MALLS - 711 is your marker. Counter or family style seating only. Not a great area to be sure. Doubt I would go again as not that close to home and lots of effort for the food as it is not a dining experience. Food is terrific tho.

Bryce Caster

Incredibly complex Korean cooking at reasonable prices. The dishes are somewhat small so if you're hungry, order two. Also their homemade kombucha is delicious.

Ronald Berger

Eclectic, delicious, unique Asian fusion food. But the only reason to come here is the food. The place looks like a cheap taco joint.

Danny Palma

Great food at good prices and the service is great. It doesn't look like much from outside but when you get your food it makes up for the location. Will definitely come back again and again.

Gigi Swift

Love. Love. Love

Jack MacCarthy

Appreciated the effort, but wasn't as overwhelmed as previous reviews had led me to believe. I arrived not starving, ordered a main dish and a salad, and left hungry. Very small servings.

Kimberly Bell

I really enjoyed this diner, the food is impressive, plus the brooms were not bad for public. It was a little cold inside, definatly was not the very best. The wait is good. I will definitely take into consideration going back once more if I have the opportunity. Me and my buddy purchased the sandwiches and we were not dissatisfied. My one tip is to keep the cool exterior. See you all again.!

Amazing flavors. Usually, I am wary of "fusion" or "spins" on Korean food, but Baroo well exceeded all expectations. To boot, the chefs are so nice (and guessed that I was a traveling consultant. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but gotta give them props regardless)!Shhh... don't tell anyone about this spot. It's pretty hard to discover and that adds more thrill to tasting great fusion food. A friend of mine introduced me to this place and I keep bringing my friends here when they cannot decide on their cravings. So far none has been disappointed. Baroo adds little "organic" twist to traditional Korean food and the whole experience can be compared to dinning at some Michelin level with grandma backyard atmosphere. As you know coming to a great level restaurant is all about tasting, so portion size can disappoint you if you come for traditional comfort style Korean food. They also lack some silverware, fine china, private table neat and grittiness but that's the beauty of it. They only have a variety of 9 or so dishes to choose from but each one is a masterpiece on its own, with some unusual combinations and ingredients. Friendly for concerned about eating healthy super-foodies. Most ingredients are naturally produced, fermented and locally grown. Love love love the house - brewed kombucha as well as little bites desserts. Great place to impress your friends!

Troy Peterson

I came for lunch and the line wasn't too long. I ordered a small, which was just enough for me. I was stuffed. The small comes with 2 scoops. I got the salmon and tuna. The fish tasted fresh. And I really like the variety of toppings they have. Best part is that avocados aren't extra. Say what??? Only thing is that I wish they had more variety on sauces. Overall, I had a great meal here and would come again. Friendly and efficient service.

Drew Mabry

Amazing fermented foods over simple rice and noodle bowls. Everything is handmade, most of it organic and locally sourced. Delicious dishes, friendly service and great atmosphere, all in a shitty strip mall in East Hollywood.

Irene Kang

The food!

Sarah Freis

Amazing.

Kirk Chantraine

Very tasty, innovative dishes which are intentional, organic and locally sourced. Don't expect fancy, though the food can be of that caliber. It's an understated and unlicensed (don't expect an alcoholic drink). Will definitely go back.

Elliott Fisher

Wow! This place is very unique. The space is very unassuming (no external sign, strip mall location). The guys cooking will take a break to get your order, so you may wait. The food is crazy delicious. The non-traditional Bolognese pasta is my favorite of all time - including the many plates of the stuff I've eaten in Bologna.

Nico Blackehart

Although the place is hard to find, the food is well worth the trip & trouble. Love the vibe of the place.

Spencer Mcfarland

asian food and the setting here is better than most. Service is always timely even when they have a full house. I'll return friends next time. The place has a great atmosphere.

Mindy Sexton

Excellent place for quality Asian food. Service is typically above par. Prices were appropriate. Mood here is similar to Fresno's scene.

Matt Grimm

Off the beaten path LA food tourism at its best. Creative and unpretentious tasty dishes that will surprise and have you wanting to return ASAP.

Bryan Sonjohnkoksoong

The Kimchi fried rice is delicious. I highly recommend it.

D M

Overall good food, on the expensive side for what it is. But great place to come for a quick eat. Also have good raw kombucha if that’s your thing.

Dylan Ris

Wonderfully inventive cuisine. It's nominally Korean, but not really. That's just the jumping off point. They source their culinary ideas from all over the globe, and they never seem to make a misstep. What's more, the staff is friendly and the food comes fast. Great restaurant!

Mathieu PREAU

Incredible food. Innovative, the italian/korean (i think) fusion is mastered.

Anthony K

Everything here was good - but we all loved the ragu!

Jen Scott

So delicious. We ordered almost everything on the menu and everything was amazing.

Charlotte LaCour

A few warnings: Every dish has various grains in it and entrees cannot be modified, so skip if you don’t eat grains. Restaurant is dine in only, unless you bring your own Tupperware. Meat is not the focus of any dish, used more as a garnish. I added pork to my salad and got about one ounce of bacon served in a small ramekin on the side. There’s no signage, but it’s right next to 7-11. I’m glad I tried it, but left hungry and wishing I would have just gone to a traditional Korean restaurant.

sl

Shhh ;)

H Y

Creative and meticulously prepared, focusing on pickled vegetables and grains. Korean influenced cooking by Korean chefs near Koreatown, but not really Korean food. Nice, modern mini mall space in a sort of in-between neighborhoods location by a 7-11. No sign and not a lot of seating. Self serve and surprisingly inexpensive.

Mitchell B

Phenomenal restaurant with a great eclectic mix of cuisines using Asian flavors as a base. We had the oxtail ragu, kimichi fried rice and pickled veggies, definitely go back and excited to see what they'll come up with next. Simple restaurant that's all about the organic fresh ingredients.

A.P. T

Very tasty, light food. Creative, clean. Portions are a little small for my tastes, so I would recommend getting at least 2 things. Ragu, fried rice, and shrimp toast were especially tasty.

Basekkurr Gironn

Very polite place

Cody Reding

One of the best restaurants in LA, hands down. Five star food at a fraction of the price. Every dish is spectacular. Couldn't ask for anything more.

Michael Berner

Not bad but not great. Small portions, flavors we're tepid

Jaksa Cvitanic

Baroo is the best deal in terms of food quality to price ratio. You get creative and tasty cooking for a run-of-the-mill price. Only in LA. Well, you don't get your own table or service by a professional waiter, but, who cares, the food is great. I'll definitely go again.

Benjamin Toubia

This place is epic but hurry they are closing in five days

Amanda Kingsmith

Great Korean fusion restaurant in LA. We shared a few things and had the kombucha and everything was amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Andrea Graham

I actually had fun at this diner, the food is impressive, and also the washrooms were not bad. It was a little cold inside, so that was not the best. The service is great as well. I will most definitely take into consideration returning once more if I get the possibility. Me and also my close friend bought the works and also we were not disappointed. My one tip is to keep the chilly outside. Come again!

Dino Bartoli

Fantastic Papusa's, Great prices.

Gabriel Wood

Eager to please Korean-esque concept kitchen with a minimalistic, mostly vegan menu.

Shabri Forrester

The food here is very unique. I wanted to try everything lol

b boublil

Best Korean ever.

Brad Barrish

INCREDIBLE food

Justin Hughes

Super interesting place, great food. Probably not a daily stop, but I'd say worth the trip if you are into foodie tourism. Very obvious that the people here are passionate about their craft. Lots of art in the execution. I hear they are closing soon, so stop by while you can!

Eric Obenzinger

Nice flavors and friendly staff. Hard to find seating but worth the visit for light and tasty meal.

Laetitia Gauchat

Excellent restaurant, not a Cosy place to eat, but meals are fresh and wonderful. Be careful, the size of the plate is quite small.

Mayte Ortiz

Everything ok.

Walter Saravia

Excelente sitio, la comida es riquísima.

tiffany mulrony

Was definitely a change from the typical restaurants I frequent. But a welcomed change nonetheless, will be coming back soon.

Megha Mishra

One of the best place.I had my food. And I am actually a foodie.

Irving Hu

Excellent food. Really flavorful!

Jamie Thalman

Sad to see this location closing. Go right now :)

Lisa Pozo

If you're a vegan or vegetarian, but a dedicated foodie too, this is your destination. I had read the restaurant had amazing pickled and fermented foods. I was not disappointed. We both enjoyed house made kombucha, then we had the seasonal cold melon soup. I could have swallowed a gallon of it. So good and with just the right amount of pistachio. Then we swapped bites of the norook and gim. Norook was a mixed whole grain dish with micro greens, nut creams, and a fermented koji berry sauce. I can't decide if I enjoyed that more than the gim. Gim was the fermented seaweed with fried tofu bits, nasturtium leaves, and crunchy bits of IDK, and a rose onion pickle. Both were delicious, priced right, portions on the small side. I spent $45 for two to eat a chef prepared high quality dinner. One more dish would have filled us up, but I will wait for next time with anticipation. You won't see a sign that says Baroo, so just go in to the hipster filled chatter hall, where people stand around waiting for a seat.

Walker Llewellyn

Really cool spot in a random shopping plaza. The food was great and had a very distinct twist on American fermented food. Pasta was perfect!

Mark Sherry

It's the first place we went after landing in LA nuf said.

Thanmayi R

Unique and tasty twist on Korean dishes.

Brian Butler

It's hard to find words to express. It's wrong to simply just describe in good or delicious or amazing. Because it's much more than that word. Inside the food, I can feel so much history inside on each ingredient. The history of barley, the genealogy of sunflower seeds, the breath of an onion, sigh of Gochujang, busyness of mold from Parmesan cheese... And lastly.. comfort them with chefs touches!

Ellis Hamburger

Damn everything’s good even the homemade kombucha

Jose Carranza

Ese un lugar muy bien

Terry York

Looks good from the outside, but there's a sign on the door that says "closed for the month of June"

Gina Jackson

Delicious food! Service is on point!

madjid hakimi

Stunning and tasty food in an incredible market place

Zubair Ahmad

Get the kimchi bacon rice bowl, these guys are the fermentation gods

Sims Sqaurkar

Amazing ingredients deceptively simple but beautifully crafted dishes.

Glenn Alexander

Unbelievable. Fantastic creativity rooted in elemental flavors and surprising combination. Deeply comforting, and beautifully unique :)

Jason Schmid

Utterly unique fermentation-based menu of dishes that, on the surface, seem as though they combine ingredients that have no business in the same dish, yet once they hit your tastebuds they do magical things. Magical things. Also they announced they're closing end of October 2018. Epic loss. A stand out amazing little spot on a crowded LA food map.

Sean Baaska

Dope little spot, great food, great price, no restrooms.

Fi Fone

Taste different!

Dylan Siemens

Beautiful fermentation-based Asian food with fresh ingredients and great service.

Dan Manheim

Exceptional unique food. Fresh and delicious.

Shem Franklin

The Ragu is where it's at

Michael Coursey

I was surprised to find such a peaceful, trendy kitchen within the nondescript storefront. The kimchi fried rice was excellent and paired well with some raspberry kombucha. I'm excited to return and adventure through more of the menu.

Kelsey Todter

We came here three days in a row because it was absolutely incredible. The best way to describe the food is 'clean' and 'nourishing'. It had the essence of Korean temple food: simple, but focused on top quality ingredients. Interesting use of grains, like job's tears. The homemade pasta was divine. I wish we discovered this little hole in the wall (literally in some random parking lot, no signage) on our first day in LA because we could have eaten their everyday, despite having already ordered everything on the menu.

Christina Wong

Inventive dishes, delicious and worth a try for adventurous foodies

Neal tipton

A misleading storefront that makes you assume you are in the wrong place, but once inside you will be greeted by two brothers with a great passion for serving unique Korean food with emphasis on fermentation. Overall I was happy with my experience and I'm sure it will become even better.

Ron Park

Unique dishes. An interesting culinary experience. Read NY Times review.

Yashvi Mudgal

Wish I could rate it 6 out of 5 stars. It was worth going.

Won Kim

Unique, fun food.

Grant Smith

Located just inside the Union Swap Meet, Baroo Canteen (it’s second iteration after closing temporarily) slangs quasi-Korean Fermentation Fare. I had the Karma Circulation, a fried chicken rice bowl. Delicious! Make sure to check out the nearby vendors afterwards for some cheap LA sports merchandise.

Jimmy Shi

This place was a gem. Amazing and creative work in each bowl/ plate.

Jim A

Wow wow, don't let the run down plaza fool you. The food they serve here is top notch. I would call it more of a western cuisine infused with asian ingredients. All dishes I ordered were very well balanced flavorwise and I can see them being on a fancy restaurants tasting menu. Do not miss this in LA.

David Leitch

A master class in why to love LA.

Brian Choi

Baroo is a Korean Fusion restaraunt that is nestled inbetween a ratty looking 7 Eleven and a Hair Salon in a stripmall of no distinction. But the food there takes Korean food to a whole other level of clean execution. Their Kimchi Fried Rice, for example, maintains the main voice of the original cultural dish with different ingredients, more colors than red and green, AND it doesn't weigh you down like heavy bricks. And the perhaps bigger display is the array of fermented vegetables Baroo has for starters. By themselves, they carry so many interesting flavors. There's free tea you can help yourself too. Portions are tight, but you're paying for quality. Parking is either in the lot, but most likely just in neighborhoods nearby.

lennert hunfeld

Heerlijk! Gaat helaas sluiten...

(Translated by Google) It really is a pleasant and delicious restaurants. (Original) 정말 쾌적하고 맛있는 음식점입니다.

Pure awesomeness... I will be back again soon

Andrew Lee

Fantastic food. Shame that it's closing.

Zulma Aguiar

Really FRIENDLY owner. Wow, finally

Jeremy Wachob

Excellent food!

PDT BUKTI NEGARA HEADQUARTERS

Amazing food. This is a weekly Kind of place. Korean French fusion. Organic and super delicious. Small quaint little ktown joint. Incredible food at an amazingly affordable price. It’s outrageous. Almost illegal. ORGANIC, LOCAL, outstanding. A must go and eat lunch or dinner. Take all out of towners to this place

Sarah Scheffer

Creativity, simplicity & service at their best

Daniel Baker

Super tasty hole-in-the-wall place. Kinda sketchy location in a strip mall, but the food is hip and delicious. Could easily be an expensive place in silver lake.

M K

Awesome

G1 and-only

The greatest tasting chicken sandwich ever made.

John M.

Great kombucha. Not too busy after 2 for lunch

Miles Bothwell

Delicious, innovative food in an unpretentious atmosphere

Los Angeles

Without the sign, I could not find this little place. Food was decent, but they are a bit overpriced for the amount they serve. Very limited seating. Almost no parking spaces available. The drinks are a bit too strange. The server tried to be as nice as she could. The place needs to be enlarged somehow. I don't know if I want to go back here again.

Benjamin King

Excellent

Jin Hong Kim

The daily specials are amazing. Every dish is complex and the people there are very friendly.

Darryl Yong

Wow. Don't let location (a rundown strip mall) fool you--the food is so unfamiliar yet everything was utterly delicious. The food is not innovative just for its own sake. Be patient. Could be crowded and there are only a few seats. Totally worth it. ***Update: new menu at the Union Swapmeet. Still awesome food!

Keju Luo

The best Asian fusion food I've ever tried. The noodle soup was very rich and complex. Will come back to try more menu items

Jeanie

If you like fermented food and complex flavors (and on the cheap!), this is your place. It’s great. Parking sucks, so beware.

Gillian Alexandria Clark

Full flavor in each bite, packed with fresh ingredients like sprouts, radishes, mushrooms, sunchokes placed atop perfectly cooked rice with spicy fried chicken or soft-boiled tea-soaked egg. The divey 7-11 strip mall parking lot is the gauntlet you have to cross to get inside this little oasis, with its community table and several stool-bearing high counters. We got 2 types of pickles, and appetizer and 2 entres for $38. Excellent! It’s the Sqirl of the Golddigger’s Bar and Hotel neighborhood.

Angela Garcia Combs

Amazing imaginative chef!

claudius armand BAL

Amazing creativity from the team in the kitchen

Tricia Guadiz

excellent!

Amanda Bright

Decent food with an interesting use of fermentation. Had the Baroo ragu and all of the pickles. Beautiful and Instagram friendly but that's pretty much where it stopped for me. Kombucha was tasty but I left feeling not very wowed. Can't imagine I will return.

Adam Sayre

Delicious food! Would definitely come again!

Stephen Rigsby

Glad to have checked this place out. Seems like a very down to earth crew. Kombucha was pretty intense (vinegary). Ragu was very tasty and super creative.

sharlene butler

Excellent food! The food was delicious. Knowledgeable & fun staff! Great place to hangout. Six of us have just been added to the growing group of locals not returning!
