Umai has a wide variety of amazing sushi, fried rice, and appetizers. The fried gyozas are my personal favorite, and their sushi rivals that of any high end sushi restaurant in the surrounding area. The staff are also amazing.

Umai is a simple way of saying delicious in Japanese, unfortunately however, my experience in this restaurant proved anything but. In retrospect the red flags were apparent upon entering, and it reminded me more of a McDonald’s than a sushi restaurant. The menu is handed to you, and the ordering is done at the counter, which although odd is forgivable seeing as the restaurants rescent opening. However the sale completion takes place before any food is delivered, as is a tip request which is odd considering that there is no service provided, be it in the drinks which you get from a soda machine or from wait staff which is non-existent. As for the atmosphere, the most charming part was the customer 4 tables away telling his dinner guest (and the rest of the restaurant) about a neighbors dog. Then we were served. The appetizers ( two small egg drop soups and a container of shrimp fried rice) were served in to-go containers, by an unhappy looking kitchen staff member. This did not increase the appeal. THE EGG DROP SOUP HAS CANNED CREAMED CORN IN IT!!!!! It was at realizing this I buckled up because I knew it was unlikely to get better. And I was right The sushi we ordered were a Godzilla and a volcano roll. They were both disgusting to put lightly. Drowning in sauce and yet devoid of actual substance the best part of both the artificial crab and even that seamed off. After a piece of each my stomach was upset and so I set the $46.26 and time this meal cost me as a loss and left. This place is expensive and ultimately I do not recommend going.

I wanted to try them today but got there ar 320 and they had signs up that they would reopen at 330. I waited until 338 and they still didn't open.

OUTSTANDING! I told David what I liked and he made me the best roll I ever had on Saturday so I went back Monday and had the Jacksonville roll and it was also superb! Fresh, delicious, and a generous portion! The restaurant is so clean and the staff was professional and nice! A great experience and family friendly! When I visit the area again, this is my first stop! I highly recommend!

Amazing Service, the In-store Atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing and the sushi is fantastic. David is a fantastic chef and works hard to insure each customer has a wonderful experience. the rest of the staff are very friendly and helpful to new customers visiting for the first time and the guys in the kitchen prepare any and all kitchen items in a timely fashion . Overall the experience here is well worth the time and money if youre looking for a great sushi establishment in jacksonville.

If sushi isn't for you, their fried rice is AMAZING with a lot of customizable options for those that may have allergies or just want some extra goodness! Store environment is brand new and squeaky clean and accessible with cheerful staff, eager to help! Overall, I love this place and eat here every week :)

I loved this place! first off the greeting was wonderful made me feel real welcome, the cashier was patient with me till I order. second the prices was not bad very reasonable. thrid the place was so super super clean. forth all the sushi was made fresh. Never been to a place and jacksonville that made sushi fresh, the manager let me watch the whole time he made them. coming from a person that been in the food industry for years, to say this his been the best experience I had in years!!. I loved it will become a regular keep up the excellent work guys

If anyone writes a bad review about this place than they're are just salty, there is nothing wrong with this Sushi place at all, very good food, workers are always smiling when they greet you when you come in the door, top recommended for when you come here would be one of the fried sushi rolls or try the SpiderMan Roll/Volcano Rill

Very very nice staff. Make your food quickly! However everything is served in a To Go fashion so I'm not sure if they're trying to be a drive in and pick up business? The Philly is amazing. Especially because you can see the quality of fish and vegetables being used. Speak fluently in English as well! My advice to them would be to offer a more dine in experience! Sad they don't see tons of business for such great food! Very much recommended.

Ordered the beauty and beast roll. Crab is imitation crab. Completely fake. As a avid sushi lover, this is not right. Let people know you use imitation crab instead of claiming it is crab. I paid for what was on the menu and did not get it. We also ordered the king kong roll. It was HUGE and only 5 pieces but only because of the crazy amount of rice. Disappointed. Will continue going to Naru in Cabot.
