The restaurant is beautiful inside and out - large statues, tropical plants, and wonderful murals everywhere. The menu has a fantastic selection, multiple kinds of filings for tacos, enchiladas. And seafood - sea bass, salmon, tilapia - with several sauces to choose from, each including shrimp and other things. I got smoked bacon-wrapped pork tenderloins with 2 enchiladas - my fillings were guacamole and spinach - with lime rice. It was fabulous! They have tres leches cake AND cheesecake, both delicious, and the best flan I've had in a very long time. In short, we loved this place.

The first thing one notices about a restaurant is the ambience, and Abuelo's scores full points on that easily. The decor was one of the best I've seen for any Mexican restaurant. The attached photos are a testament to that. Now comes the food review, but before that I would like to mention some unusual practice here. While taking our drink order, the server asked what we would like with our chips, queso or guacamole. Complimentary chips and salsa are a common thing at Mexican restaurants but I thought this restaurant might have one upped them all by providing guacamole instead of salsa. But as it turned out, at the time I received the check, that I was charged 7.75 for the chips and guacamole. I found that to be a bit scam-like to be honest and that's why I am docking them a star. Other than that, the food was delicious. The chicken fajitas I ordered were good and the variety of fresh salsas were show stoppers. Hands down the best salsas I've had(especially the Verde). All in all, a decent dining experience.

We went to Abuelo’s to celebrate my wife’s birthday recently, because it’s her favorite place in town. They’ve got great food (especially their burritos), and she’d been looking forward to this dinner since we hadn’t been in a while. We went relatively early in the evening, so it was far from what I’d consider “busy”. However, after going inside, we were there for about 5 minutes before a host(ess) ever made an appearance. I would understand the delay if they were busy seating other guests, but there were barely any other guests from what I could see. The hostess was very friendly and kind when she did return to seat us. I wish I could say the same about the wait staff. In the first few minutes after being seated, we were introduced by 3 separate waiters/waitresses all telling us they would be our servers, each admitting there was some confusion. This wasn’t a big deal until the 3rd and final waitress, who made it clear to us throughout our meal that she would rather be anywhere else than our table. That’s not to say she didn’t make many appearances; she just had an open look of disdain every time she did appear. Perhaps she was unhappy they gave our table to her? I don’t know. But we are a polite bunch who are easy to please, and we never made any outrageous demands (ketchup for my toddler’s fries, and queso on the side of one of the burritos), so I have no clue why she made it a point to take out her frustration on us. I’ve never been to a restaurant where I felt like I personally had annoyed the waitress just by being a patron there. But she insisted on making us feel that way, by being short/ with her responses to anything we said, and storming off after every interaction. It was a shame my wife had to deal with such a rude person on what was supposed to be a fun night for her at one of her favorite places in town. This certainly affected our perception of the service here. I’m still giving the place 3 stars because the food was fantastic; I just can’t stand bad customer service.

Authentic Mexican cuisine. We are visiting the area from San Diego California. Mexican food is our favorite. Abuelo's is the real deal. Excellent salsa too. Beautiful place for a family gathering or romantic date. I thought the enchiladas were tasty and their dessert menu is over the top great.

The interior is very cool how it's decorated and the statue which I assume is the family patriarch the restaurant is named after. They bring out a sample of 3 different salsas to try. Menu is extensive but pricey many entrees run $18 and up. The lunch menu prices are what normal dinner prices at most Mexican restaurants. Glad I went but I will another Mexican restaurant a chance begire returning.

Food (4/5)- The chips did have a slight aftertaste, which may have been due to the batch. The salsa was very good and had a fresh taste. I am from Houston and although this chain is Texas-based, the fajitas were far from Texas style. It lacked the seasoning to provide depth to the meat. They also had somewhat smaller portions than other restaurants have in the area. Family Friendly (5/5)- They had a good mix of food items on the menu for kids. My ~2 year old enjoyed the chicken strips and fries. They also had the sling for baby car seats and booster seats for toddlers. Staff(5/5)-The staff was great. They did seem to be a little overwhelmed although it wasn't a peak time. The waiters were very nice through, despite the generous amounts of noise my kiddos (2 under 2) were creating.

I would not recommend this place to eat. Our server was more attenative to the guys that were eating with me. Seemed to have an attitude towards me did not refill my drink until one of the guys asked her too. When she did refill my drink instead of bringing the tea to refill my cup she took my cup with her. Which seems a little weird as most places have a little pitcher of tea to bring to tables. She did not do this with the guys drinks. She brought them a new glass every time.When we got our food she had asked if everything was fine before we had taken a bite of anything. When we asked for the check none of us had taken more than a few bites of our food and she did not ask if anything was wrong with the food. For what we ordered they seemed a over priced as well. On the other hand their dip sampler is good. That was the best part out of the whole dinner.

The service was terrible! Our waitress had a group of people drinking and spent the whole time we were there catering to them. They brought us dirty dishes for our fajitas. The steak was very rare. Our drinks sat empty for way too long. Top it all off when we left my husband and son went into the bathroom and there was pee all over the floor. I get having an off night but this was just disgusting. This used to be my favorite place to go, looks like I'll have to find a new favorite!

Nice Mexican restaurant with a big variety of common dishes and Tex-Mex style plates. Decor is like being in Las Vegas. Staff is attentive and open to any questions you may have. Place can get crowded at times. The bar area is a good size and the drinks are mixed up properly. Grab a glass of drip infused tequila while you're there!

Good food, good employees, the waiters are nice and know the menu, and the place has always been clean every time I've been there. There are padded benches to sit on if you have to wait for a table, and they have the wireless device for notifications that vibrate and have LED lights that blink.

My wife and I were treated to dinner at Abuelo's by my step son Micheal and his girlfriend Jen while we were visiting Arkansas on family business on 7/28/19...... He has written several positive reviews already on the restaurant and loves it.. The restaurant itself is very nice........Statues, water fountain, very large, pretty mural on the back wall, skylights for natural lighting.......very pleasant, relaxing atmosphere.... Our waiter, Joseph was very nice and professional. He was very attentive and constantly checked on us during our visit and was very knowledgable about the menu. Chips and 3 kinds of salsa- from mild to hot are standard for everyone...All 3 were very good...Had the "Laredo " platter which consisted of a cheese, beef enchiladas , crunchy taco, with beans, mexican rice. I substituted the mexican rice for the Cilantro Lime rice.. Everything was Very Good !!!!!!!!! Sweet tea was just right, not overly sweet. For dessert I had a slice of there Dulce de Leche Cheesecake.....It was a Perfect ending to a splendid meal....Thank You Joseph for giving us some great service and making our visit so pleasant !!!!! My Thanks again to Micheal and Jen for treating us to a Great meal !!!!! This restaurant will definitely be one of our stops whenever we are here visiting family and friends !!!!!!!!

It was a great experience with this restaurant. The ambience is just apt for a family or friends group gatherings. The dishes tasted almost authentic. The staff are too good and hospitable. The way the waiter who attended us helped us in finding out the best dish to taste is simply cool. They got lot of patience and answered every query we had with respect to the menu. Overall it was a very nice experience and we would give an other visit very soon.

The food here was great we really enjoyed it. The service wasn't that great though our waitress was nice enough but she would say she would get something and then just completely forget and it was hard to get her attention again to get things we already asked for. We asked for another chair because my in-laws decided to join us (they got there and still no chair). After waiting for a while my brother ended up asking a table behind us if we could use one of theirs. It also took a while for her to get drinks and take our order we waited 15mins before we even got our drink order taken. My in laws actually arrived right after we got our drinks. Luckily they got theirs much faster. Everyone also said no lemon in their water everyone got a lemon which isn't a big deal but if something someone requested not to have was an allergy it would be.

This place was fantastic. The sampler dip platter was phenomenal, as well as the 3 salsas they bring you with chips. Me and my partner both had enchiladas. I had the avocado enchilada as well as the cheese enchilada. Very fresh and authentic. The food comes out on very hot plates, assuring your food stay nice and hot while you eat. Prices are decent on the meals as well as drinks. The waitress we had was very knowledgeable and very attentive. I would recomend this to anyone who enjoys an upscale atmosphere as well as very fresh authentic Tex mex.

So I bought a gift card to support my favorite local charity. This restaurant was kind enough to donate it, so I can't give them a terrible rating because of that. That was very nice to do. But, the food was honestly really gross. I'm sorry. Also, people who don't like spicy salsa will leave sad. Avoid the cheese sauce, bean burritos, and french fries at minimum. I wish I could say we loved it.

5 stars all day!!!!! This is (in my opinion) the absolute best Mexican restaurant in the country!!!!. Ate at the very first location ( Midland Texas ) many years ago! And it was one of my regular hangouts in Arlington Texas when i lived there. It was great then and I have never been disappointed at one yet! The food is fantastic and plentiful. The atmosphere is amazing and cosy. This one is just as good as any I've been in before and I wasn't disappointed. If your looking for GREAT Mexican food this is the place. It's a little bit pricey compaired to your run of the mill Mexican restaurants, but it isn't run of the mill! I JUST WISH THEY WOULD BUILD ONE IN BRANSON MISSOURI so I didn't have to drive so far to enjoy their food. Do yourself a favor and take your family here for a fantastic meal!!

The staff was very kind and super helpful in a myriad of ways. The drinks were delicious, but I didn't get to enjoy their wonderful menu. I really enjoyed my visit here, and will be returning often.

Food and drink are usually pretty good, but this time the steak medallions were not cooked as specified, med. rare. First they were well done, then rare. SMH. Service was slow, especially for just drinks. IMHO this 5 star restaurant (been going here for 25-30 years) has gone from 5 stars to 3 stars

We should have known this place was a no go whenever we walked in and it smelled like a toilet. The water tasted like toilet water. Absolutely disgusting. You barely get any salsa which is okay because it is gross. The food was cold and tasted like it was microwaved. Go to the Chic fil a beside it instead.

The food is good. We had the chicken medallions and enchiladas. The reason for my 5 star comes mainly from our server Precious. She went above and beyond for us but not only us but her entire section. We would see her moving while engaging with all of her tables. Never where we without and she was always around when we needed without hovering. She is a definite asset to the establishment and the reason we will be back. Highly recommended asking for Precious when eating here!!

I've never had a bad experience here. The customer service is on point. They are friendly and attentive, even during busy times. My friend and I have not had the best experiences at other Mexican restaurants in the area, and as much as I love and want real traditional Mexican food I can't stand the service. Abuelo's food is not authentic, but it is good. Add on great customer service and a great atmosphere and I'm hooked! Highly recommend!

Very nice place when we walked in, but as we were seated in the corner it was very dark couldn't even read the menu had to use my phone flashlight to see. Multiple wait staff Walked by as our party of 4 were using the light of our phones and said nothing seemed like they were amused by it. Very pricey $20 for fajitas but none the less everything was good except for the dry refried beans. This was our first visit the waitress was trying to clear our table as we were getting up. Very rushed and there wasn't people waiting to be seated. Not sure if we will return for a second visit.

Ordered takeout, ordered their Queso Diablo, a $9 item, serving size was the same as the serving size of the side of rice that came with the enchiladas. Ridiculous. ( 9 dollars for a "cup" of cheese dip) Rest of food was cold, not just room temperature, but chilly, in the metal container, it was chilly to the touch like it had just been pulled from fridge before pickup.

This place is GREAT! Be prepared for a long wait on busy nights if you have a large party, but it's WELL worth it! The Grande plates are absolutely HUGE, the atmosphere is festive and authentic, the service is really SUPER! (we had a party of 20 and they kept the order straight, served it fast, got it right and did it with a smile!) There are some interesting dishes and all the favorites as well. Prices are reasonable and they accommodate wheelchair seating. Highly recommend it and would give it MORE stars if possible!!!!
