Very creative menu, and friendly staff. Great for birthday celebrations and large parties. Be aware it is loud. Not for those looking for an intimate dinner setting. It’s very Club like with the music volume. They get very busy on weekend nights. If you have a reservation be prepared to still wait as some parties stay over their “time”. Otherwise it’s still worth it.

I took a colleague and interviewing physician with me to dinner last weekend. The food was fantastic - unique tastes in artful presentations. It was somewhat difficult to sort out how much to order given that most of the menu has small items to be shared, but the food was very good. The atmosphere was very loud and difficult to hold a conversation. We ate outside where it was more quiet but also hot.

Fantastical service in an amazingly designed space with superb food. I can’t speak higher for the food and drinks, it was Amazing!!! Mixed menu shows the chefs confidence and extreme competence with Asian and Latin foods. The “valet” parking is a sad cash grab, but fitting for the area.

Made a reservation via OpenTable and stated it was our anniversary. We got to our table and there were 2 glasses of champagne waiting for us. Our waitress was amazing. The entire dining experience met our expectations, above and beyond honestly. The vibe is 10X better than the food though.. But we got a free desert and service was perfect. We will be back!

Highly recommended for those looking for a very modern dinner menu with a “energetic” atmosphere. Their food concept is excellent and preparation is even better! This place has a fantastic atmosphere and vibe! It’s supposed to be Mexican and Asian fusion, but I didn’t see that in the food. To me it was more like they had Mexican or Asian, but the cuisines were not integrated together, at least from what I saw. That being said, the food was fantastic. Their Rainbow Ceviche was so tasty! One final point, they have huge TVs over the bar area which I think spoils the look and feel of the place, hence the four stars instead of five. If I want TVs, then I’ll go to a sports bar. This is a nice night out type of spot.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! SUMOMAYA is such an amazing place for MEXICAN ASIAN FUSION! Drinks We had the CHINGA TU MAYA, SPICY PEACH MANGO, SAKE-IT-TO-ME Tini, LYCHEE COCOTINI. All of the drinks were really delicious and definitely got us tipsy. Food We had a REAL CALIFORNIA ROLL, OCTOPUS AGUACHILE, SHRIMP SALAD, MEXICAN STREET CORN. The OCTOPUS and STREET corn stole the show! My husband gets weirded out by Octopus but I made him try it and he loved it!! SERVICE We decided to come here last minute and the staff was super accommodating! They had us seated super fast! ATMOSPHERE It’s definitely a hot spot for a cute snack and drink before a night out. Or if you just want to Kiki and listen to some amazing DJ mixes.

If you are looking for a unique blend of tasty Asian and Mexican food, this is your spot. The environment is awesome, the food is incredible, and the service is top notch. I had the Chilean Sea Bass, it melts in your mouth. Everything else was amazing as well. I recommend setting up reservations, as the place is always busy. I think you will not be disappointed.

Great place for some fun loud time with friends or family. Food was fantastic. Tried several different item (we just ordered a bunch of things and passes them around) and from the noodles and beef, fish, ceviche and tacos I didn't eat one thing that I didn't enjoy. Limited selection of beer, however this is a cocktail kind of place with a wide variety of different types to try and those that I did were excellent. It's a loud atmosphere so if you're looking for quiet romantic probably not the place, but a fun environment to have a good laugh and food.

Everything was delicious and our server was *fantastic*. If you like mojitos try their take on a blended mojito. So refreshing! The michilada was great as well. The food was presented beautifully but most importantly had fantastic flavors. If you have a group it's probably better to make a reservation. If you want to talk with friends maybe sit outside. Unfortunately, the happy hour foods are only offered inside and they couldn't sit 6 of us inside. We enjoyed the quiet outside though -the patio was cute with bright colors. It filled in quickly as well. Our boys devoured their meals. (Cali rolls). There is also a great friend rice and quesadilla and more on the kids menu. Definitely worth a visit while traveling, for girlfriends getogether, or to see and be seen. Fun date spot.

Honestly, I am impress by how nice the patio feels, even in AZ summer heat. Well, as long as you avoid the sun exposure areas of the patio, it is actually really nice. Atmosphere was nice on the patio, music was at a good level where conversation were happening without having to shout. The patio alone earned the three stars. Three stars because I feel like food service could have been better. I went here for a birthday brunch because i heard the famous “Unlimited” brunch menu. We were told we would get one of everything for a group of 8, but we just felt like we got the least expensive items of the appetizers. I also asked for desserts to be brought out with appetizers but we didn’t really get to try until it was time for us to be kicked out. And when I said kicked out, we were kicked out, even though none of us were drunk or anything. I overheard the lady mentioning that we have over welcomed our stayed because they don’t want us there any longer than 2 hours. Which was understandable but I feel like that could have been handled better or at least give me a few more minutes to enjoy all of my desserts. Anyways, back to the food, the actual entree that you order is very small in portion. Like very small where my “Wagyu beef and egg” choice was literally 2 small slices of carne asada with a poached egg on top. If you cut up those slices of meat, it would give you enough for 1 and a half street taco. Hence, why 8 of us really relied on the unlimited appetizers. I think with us asking for more food, we got a total of 2 rounds for sushi, hummus, and guacamole in a span of 2 hours. We also got bottomless mimosas, which i think we got a total for 4–5 rounds each in a span of 2 hours. This doesn’t sound bad on paper but when you actually see the portion size, you’ll understand my point. Overall, I would definitely recommend this brunch style with about 2-4 people, maybe 6 for max, but anymore than that, you won’t be feeling satisfied upon departure.

Although the menu is fantastic. The service is poor and the mochi ice cream was wholesale same as Costco, maybe even worse....I pointed it out to the server. He did not apologize, did not remove it from my bill, despite sending it back; and no manager or the Chef came to even try to explain or do something about the situation.

Incredibly impressed with the bottomless brunch. The endless appetizer options are all delicious and you can just keep em coming! The entrees all sounded delicious as well, my companion and I for the pad Thai and the poke bowl to split, both fantastic! As a beer fanatic, I went with all beer for my bottomless drink option which worked out decently well, but if I had to give any critique it would be the rather limited and lacking of excitement beer selection. That being said, the fusion of Asian and latin cuisine, paired with a bottomless option at a reasonable price was so unique and successful that all five stars are well earned.

We came on a Thursday at 11:30am so it was nice and quiet. There was music playing but it wasn’t loud like some other reviews mentioned. Outdoor area seating was wonderful for a May afternoon. Ordered the traditional guacamole, standard, nothing fancy and not too spicy for those that like a mild flavor. Also got the avocado roll on soy paper (YUM! *$2 up-charge for soy paper). My husband got the chicken tacos and pork tacos, both got a thumbs-up from him- pork was better he said. Atmosphere was nice, waiter was attentive and not annoying. we would come here again.

We are visiting Arizona from a different state, this place was recommended to us by a cashier at a local store, and it blew our mind. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere very nice. The best part: the recommendations from our waitress (Jordyn), we went by everything she recommended, and OMG, she knew what she was talking about, amazing. Not only was she awesome with the recommendations, but also very attentive and professional, checking with us multiple times: we felt very well taken care of, you could tell she cared about us having a great experience. Even if we are here for 5 days, we'll definitely come back.

I was let down after how much our friends talked this place up. They had a DJ on a Saturday night and he was a really good DJ, but we couldn’t hear anything each other or the server said. I personally like to have a conversation over dinner but maybe that’s not the vibe they intended. They were out of a few things we ordered, sirloin, dessert...and then forgot to bring my friends one of the dishes they ordered. The steak my friend ended up getting was really good, but the dishes I ordered were essentially plates of cilantro so it was kind of a turn off. Won’t be returning.

The food was so good that the only downside was we didn't have more space in our bellies to eat more. Its a Mexican/japanese/Peruvian fusion that works really well. The ingredients seem to be of very high quality and everything is properly seasoned and very nicely presented. Service was great and lovely ambience. What else can you ask for.

I came for my birthday with a large group of friends. Overall the experience was pretty mediocre. I’ve been coming here for years and the service has really taken a tumble. Our server was SO RUDE! We decided to open presents right after we ordered cocktails. While I was opening gifts she started taking our tables order for food. I hadn’t even looked at the menu. The food came out at all different times which is totally fine expect when one of our guests meal came out 20 minutes after everyone else’s. The server brought out the dessert with a sparkler when some of the guests, including my boyfriend, were in the bathroom. Drinks, including shots, took at least 10 minutes to come out. Every time we would ask for anything she would just give us attitude like we were putting her out. When the bill came out it was so wrong. She had charged different amounts for the same shots, charged us for food we didn’t have and had the worst attitude when we asked her to fix it. When your table spends nearly $1k for dinner you expect a little better service. She was awful. We won’t be returning.

I'd heard rave reviews since they opened and finally made my way up. Hubby loved his rice dish enough he's talking next time. My tacos and the sushi were ok but nothing I'd rave about. I would go back and try some of their other dishes. Excellent service though and you will need a reservation- they are packed even on a Tuesday

I highly recommend making a reservation as early in advance as possible. We walked in without one, and they helped us out, but it makes it much easier with a table reserved for your party. Positives: -The service was great! The hostesses were very nice and accommodating. Our table was given free glasses of prosecco for our anniversary. We were congratulated by the manager. Everyone was good to us and very pleasant. -The food was fresh and tasted good. **The reason for my 2 star review isn't because of the food or the service. It's because of the environment and the prices.** Prices: The food was good and so were the drinks, but happy hour prices are at the bar only, I can't justify upwards of $16 for a drink that isn't up to bar with other bars that serve better cocktails for $10 (the Breadfruit, the UnderTow, etc), and I certainly can't justify paying $10 for two diminutive, bite-sized tacos that I could have made at home. It was fresh and good but just very small. The sushi roll we got was $15 and the roll was tiny and did not impress me at all. It barely had any filling and was pretty much just rice rolled up with some sauce on top. It was pretty disappointing. Environment: Not only does every single douche and valley girl in every possible age range happen to come here to congregate all at once, but the place was so loud I couldn't hear myself think. We wanted a romantic evening and Scottsdale just isn't the place. I wanted to throat punch everyone there. The place is pretty cramped for space as well so you're going to be close to other people who are talking loud. Even if you're not exactly looking for a romantic evening, I imagine this environment to be unpleasant for anyone. This alone is the reason I will not be coming back, unless A) someone else is paying the tab, or B) I end up going when the place is empty and quiet so I can sit at the bar and get happy hour prices. Even then it might not be worth it.

Such a great restaurant. Super nice decor and love the atmosphere. They were playing house music at about 10pm and they close pretty late which is a plus. We got bacon wrapped dates, traditional guacamole, beef chimichuri (spelling?) and sea bass. It was so amazing. Every part of our meal. We also got cocktails: the triangle and passion fruit pisco sour. Definitely going to come back again when I’m in Scottsdale. Our service was excellent as well. Thank you Nicole for all the amazing recommendations. You’re the best!

Been here a couple times now for dinner and the weekend brunch. I would definitely recommend going for the weekend brunch. It's a cool atmosphere with live music, bottomless drinks, and great choices for food. Everything I tried was amazing and cooked perfectly. Theres a mojito drink that I forgot the name but it was so good. It's a weird cross between Mexican and Asian but it works and you will want to eat everything on the menu.

I went to Sumo Maya for the first time after hearing good reviews... boy were they wrong. No one and I mean no one ever told us that my friends and I could only stay for 2 hours. After some communication with the manager my friends and I agreed to pay and leave. The service was slow and while they had my credit card and I was waiting to pay so that I could leave the manager came up and said to us IF YOU DO NOT LEAVE I WILL CALL THE COPS. This was probably the most grotesque situation I have ever been in while at a restaurant. While attempting to pay they threatened to call the cops on me and say that I was trespassing.

Asian Mexican fusion done right!! Everything we ordered was great! The decor is great and overall I would definitely recommend this place if you're in town. My only suggestion is to put more effort into the music. When we were there they played the same 5 house songs over and over, I don't even think the tracks were mixed. And it wasn't good house, it was like someone picked 5 songs from an Ibiza Nights CD from 2013.

This is an incredibly trendy place with excellent food and very unique combinations. All their dishes are freshly prepared with creative combinations of Asian and Spanish combinations. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is energetic and the crowd is on point. I loved it!

This was such a cool restaurant to eat at while visiting Scottsdale! I love Asian and the Asian Mexican fusion was tasted amazing. I would have never thought of it. There were so many things I wanted to try; next time I visit Scottsdale I will have to go back. Build a restaurant in Kansas City!

We were treated like garbage from the moment we arrived. We were early for our reservation, and totally willing to wait at the bar, but we’re dismissed like an inconvenience. We returned a half hour later, and told “just find a seat at the bar somewhere”. Four of us crowded around a two-seat bar table. The server asked “oh, how about you just eat here?”. No thanks; we made table reservations, and there’s a dozen empty tables we can see. So we ordered drinks - took 20 minutes to arrive. We ordered appetizers - one came right away; the other was clearly forgotten about and arrived after 30 minutes. Multiple servers - nobody clearly assigned to our table - one of them said “oh, you’re not in my section, but I’ll help you”. But they were universally indifferent, one of them was downright dismissive. We were finally asked to move to a table - they pointed “over there” and left us to carry our own plates and silverware over to situate ourselves. Then nobody came by for another 15 minutes, to take an order. It took an hour before our final dish arrived - there was no coordination at all, and I could hardly believe it. Yeah, it was cold too. We left hungry, mostly because we couldn’t stand spending a third hour in the restaurant begging to be served food. The food is tasty - would be tastier if it was warm - but the service is an absolute shitshow.

One of my favorite restaurants in the Valley hands down! I have been here on multiple occasions and love it every time. I've probably tried at least half of the menu at this point, and absolutely everything has been delicious, and the presentation is on point. My husband is a chef, so he's really picky, and I don't think I've ever heard him make a negative comment about anything we've had here. The decor is awesome, so trendy, and I love the outdoor spaces. The only remotely critical thing I can say is that sometimes the food or drinks come out a little slow when they're busy, but since it's all served tapas-style, you're usually not hungry for long. Plus, the server usually will warn you when certain things (particularly sushi) get backed up. LOVE SumoMaya!

A lively restaurant with a buzz. Noisy, but the ample space around the tables makes this tolerable. The Tex/Mex/Asian fusion food was excellent! We opted for small plates and each one was perfectly done. The service was gracious and professional, pacing the service so each of the plates had ample time to linger in your mouth.

This was a great place for Brunch. Our waitress picked everything for us and she was spot on. Pomegranate gauc was good, a little chunky but it was good. The dessert was so good! Liquid cheesecake and the churros were amazing, put them together and you won't be disappointed. Oh, and did I mention bottomless mimosas?

We did the bottomless brunch and it was by far our favorite Scottsdale spot! The Cuban Benedict was the overall favorite dish. Waygu steak and eggs was second. ABSOLUTELY, get both dessert options and combine them. We would have gotten seconds of both desserts if we weren’t so full!

Had the al pastor and mahi tacos. Was not impressed with the tacos at all. Could've got better tacos off a truck. Only get 2 street tacos for $9. For that price I could buy 8 tacos that are better. I used to work in a sushi place and charging $13 for a California roll is ridiculous. I realize its Scottsdale and everything needs to cost more, but seriously come on, $13 for some fake crab and cucumber rolled in rice. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Needless to say I won't be back to this establishment when I can get better food cheaper else where. Would've gave 1 star but the tortillas were made from scratch.
