This Restaurant belongs to the category of Southern restaurant (US).
Oh my gosh, so good. The fried green tomatoes have the perfect spicy batter and crispy fry with a load of pimento cheese. The shrimp poboy is crispy and moist and just spicy enough. The gumbo is rich and meaty. The beignets are soft and sugary. Real southern food done right.
The food and service was wonderful.
Nice location with indoor and outdoor seating. A large bar area that stretches inside and outside. The food and service were good and also a decent tap list with local craft beer.
This review was hard to write as I'm a find customer of this restaurant.. but recently the fondness may have died. A coworker and I were planning a retirement party for a supervisor. We placed a deposit for the amount of people attending, upon final confirmation of the guest list we needed to increase the list. We contacted the restaurant and was told the deposit would increase. The increase was more than what we wanted to do, so we declined. We are government employees impacted by the "shutdown". We inquired about getting our deposit back and were told, flat out "NO". We complied with the 7 day cancellation policy and still was told, " no". I'm just disappointed in this restaurant by not understanding.
Well crafted cocktails served up with modern twists on southern food. The vegetable enchiladas were so delicious. Salad were bright and tasty. Nice experience.
This is the best restaurant next to a bookstore that has a bar! It's southern food without being a BBQ shop which is unique in itself. Located off the light rail makes it very convenient if you're exploring the city on foot. Try their desserts!
The fried chicken is always moist. The collared greens have just the right amount of kick and the service is phenomenal
Arrived there about 5pm on a Sunday - had a reservation. My dad had fall vegetable enchiladas which he liked. Friend had fried chicken - half a chicken - HUGE amount of chicken with lots of breading. She didn't care for the mustard greens that came with. Other friend had broccoli, cauliflower, rice and leek casserole which she liked. I had the Camelback salad. Too elaborate for an appetizer for one, not quite enough for entree for one. Desserts looked good, but we didn't partake. Went to Changing Hands instead and looked around. Service was very good. The sound level was LOUD. Place was nowhere near full. Sigh. Nice place though. Next door to Changing Hands makes it more likely I'll return.
Good food and drinks, nice patio.
It was pretty good we had a great time, I had fried chicken very nice the gumbo was different but still tasty needs more okra we will be back Thank You Sr
This is an upscale restaurant hidden next to a book store. Their food is fantastic. I had the meatloaf...no seriously... Gourmet meatloaf. I make the best meatloaf ever...well second best now. The flavor is deep and layered. I also had their roasted pepper tomato soup. This also is like no other I have had. The texture was silky the taste was explosive. If you are in to bourbon, don't miss this place. Right off the Light Rail, I may take a buddy and just sit and sample the fine bourbons that you cannot find locally. I had Blanton's Single Barrel, Old Weller 107 Antique and George Stagg Jr. My next trip will include some Van Winkle. Do your self a favor put this on your list of places to go.
Great spot! All the food was prepared to perfectin and the staff was super friendly. Would recommend for traveler or local alike.
Great place to celebrate a birthday!
The food and service were excellent. I had the gumbo and it tasted wonderful. We had a table of 10 and our waitress was extremely attentive, very friendly and just did an excellent job overall. Definitely need to come back to try some of the creative dishes on the menu.
Fantastic cheese sandwich and tomato soup!
Look in the middle of my grits. A nice little hair. My waitress didn't even apologise. All they did was take it off my tab. Disgusting. I had a craving for grits. And I ended up being so grossed out that I couldn't even have my favorite food. I spent $58.00. I'm so disappointed.
You've got to try there Fried Chicken.
So many things to say about this place! Incredible!
This place is amazing. Its gorgeous it has a very good menu. The fried chicken is to die for. The wait staff was amazing and very helpful. Probably one of the best restaurants I have ever been too.
I grew up in the south, sortof, and have a great appreciation for comfort food. I've eaten here multiple times and have never been disappointed. The food, beverages, and service... The real package deal is here! I had the red beans and rice tonight, perfect for an almost chilly desert evening.
Nice atmosphere, pleasant service, but the menu is limited because they "change the menu every season". They have no cornbread, not very southern. They don't have the sweet potato available either.
Food is delish. I love their decor as it is homey and relaxing...service was excellent and attentive. Will go back there again real soon!
Honestly felt like a hidden diamond in the sand. Rare to find anywhere quit that nice in a semi decent area. The food was amazing and my wife loved the mamosa's. Id recommend the southern rail to anyone.
Just ate here for the first time, and it was absolutely amazing. My husband had a burger cooked by chef Linda, and he was equally delighted and saddened because his burger was "so delicious that every future burger is now ruined." I had a bite and it was hands down the best burger I have ever eaten. I had the dirty rice balls and the enchiladas, both of which were absolutely fantastic, and we had beignets for dessert. We definitely stuffed ourselves, but every bite was well worth it! Highly recommend this spot.
The staff here are amazing! Knowledgeable, friendly and fun. The food is delicious and portion sizes are great for the price. Also found out the patio area is non-smoking!!! Major plus in this town!! I strongly suggest everyone to try this place out! The bartender tonight was our server, and with doing two jobs at once, he still had time to check on us repeatedly. Wish I remembered his name....
Wow!!! That's really what I can say. The ambience and our waitress Rachel was phenomenal.... My friend the shrimp po'boy and I had the seasonal enchiladas and the meals were excellent. Recommend this to anyone wanting a little southern pizzazz.
Good food, great staff, nice atmosphere. The owner was very welcoming and accommodating. The live music was the cherry on top. I look forward to returning to this restaurant in the future.
Service is nice but it is a bit slow at lunch if you are looking to get out in under an hour during the week. Ordered the Cubano, a bit bland for my taste. The Beignets were good, though.
Awesome spin on old favorites!
Beautiful decor in a light filled space. The bar area opens to huge inviting patio seating area in a building called The Newton. The food was good, but not great. The gumbo is more like beef stew and the poor boy sandwiches are served like wraps with odd tasteless pickles. While advertised as "southern", it is more like what a chef from California might concoct and label that way.
Great food and great service!! The fried chicken is scrumptious, with a flavorful outer crunch and juicy chicken. Get the red velvet cake to finish off a great meal, it has real creme cheese frosting, yum. They have a solid bourbon selection. Go and enjoy, you'll love it.
Good food and Rachel was a great server!
Hands down a great place to eat, and the service is very good. Great place!!!
Wonderful food and excellent service. Can't wait to go back again. Had a great server named Todd.
Delicious okra and collard greens appetizers. Clean restaurant. Helpful and curtious staff. Main dishes are served until after 5 pm. Recommend reservations if your going to dinner.
Nice hangout place for large group. Food is decent, I really enjoyed the deviled eggs and the chicken dumplings
Beautiful, clean, pricey, right next to the book store. My family and I went to have lunch. The salad was savory and filling, the kids amounts were of good size. The kids menus is on the inside of a book which was super cute. The server did well with being attentive. If you have a large wallet to spend for a meal, especially a family meal, then it would be a nice place.
So yummy omg!
Becket's Table has been a favorite dining destination for some time, consistantly offering a cuisine that is both interesting and delicious. So we finally got around to sampling the fare at Southern Rail. Alas, the evening was sub par. The server was pleasant and patient though somewhat inconsistent. Two of the three orders were incorrect. Once corrected the burger, ordered medium rare, was well done and lacked seasoning. The dumplings were decent, nothing special. The fried chicken was very good. For dessert we ordered the beignets. They were served with a heavy dusting of powdered sugar but no sauce. We asked for a bit of the bourbon sauce usually served with their bread pudding. The combination was a perfect blend of flavor and texture. We will likely give it another try, hopefully it will prove to be their redemption.
Every bit as good as the last time I went. Food absolutely blew me away. Amazing staff. Can't wait to go back again!
We've eaten here before. Last time I had the shrimp and grits. This time, I had the creamy grits. Both were delicious. The shrimp and grits was super filling the last time, and I knew I wasn't that hungry, so I ordered the grits. It was the right amount of food. My boyfriend ordered the avocado toast and the tomato basil soup. He enjoyed both.
Lovely atmosphere and a great staff. Food is delicious too! Highly recommend for a date night and the patio is great too!
3 stars due to recommendations before closing..i kind of felt they recommended items that is fast and i felt cheated. I most likely ate something that has been sitting all day .sometimes fast service before closing feels rushed id rather wait for great food than having it slapped together.
The food was fine. Located in a strip mall, we almost drove right past it. Needs better signage. Service wasn't bad.
Gumbo was good, but not great. Not enough kick. Fries were awesome and seasoned well. They were out of lots of alcohol during lunch, so that was odd. The burger they are known for was just ok. Fried okra wasn't even close to being seasoned well.
I love this place. Give the Southern Sazerac a try it is yummy.
Was really excited to try this place, as I've been following Chef Beckett on social media for a while. Was certainly not disappointed. If you have a chance to make it to any of his restaurants, you should! I had the gumbo and my girlfriend had the enchiladas. The apple butter rolls are a great appetizer, but I still wish I had tried the grilled cheese and tomato soup.
Wonderful place and I like the big dish of Macorni and cheese
Liked this restaurant very much, very good Louisiana style food; the muffaletta burgers were very good. Service was very attentive and waiters were courteous. Prices are a bit high though.
Great design, nice open space with storefront windows along the southern wall. The gumbo is excellent with smoked sausage and tender chicken in a dark flavorful roux. The Muffaletta burger was very good too. I'll definitely be back after 5 sometime to try the fried chicken.
The fried green tomatoes were life changing
Fabulous Southern fare. Good cocktails and service.
Best grilled cheese sandwich in town, Yum!
Its that time of year again. The weather starting to allow us to enjoy the beautiful outdoors again. Southern Rail is a beautiful place that pleases all the senses
Portions are huge. Staff is great. Get the fried chicken and beignets!
My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here after several previous experiences. From the initial contact to reserve the dining room to the end of the dinner, they were fantastic. Every person we interacted with was personable, engaging, and super helpful.
Food was lackung in flavor and was a disappointment. Layers of flavor is what was missing.
In town for work, tired of Mexican fare and craving good Southern food. Found this place in magazine of local eateries. Was the absolute best food we have ate since arriving three days ago hands down. We had to try Fried Okra, Fried Green Tomatoes, deviled eggs and dirty rice bowl appetizers. For dinner I had fried chicken, greens and potato’s. Far exceeded my hopes and expectations. My honey had the chicken and dumplings, he was very satisfied and my friend had the meatloaf and she was beyond thrilled. What great service Thomas, thank you. We was also treated by another very nice young man with great smile and hospitality who made sure we had water upon arrival. The atmosphere was so soothing and chill. We were too full for dessert but we plan to return for lunch tomorrow before we fly out to Seattle WA. Don’t forget to try the sweet tea, you won’t be disappointed with anything here! I’m a critic and I have high expectations for food and service and Southern Rail gets a 5 stars from this foodie!
I love the Southern Charm of this restaurant. We felt very comfortable and welcomed here. The food and service was excellent.
Great food! Adult Beverages were on point! I'll definitely be back!
Yummy take on traditional favorites. Ask questions about the menu so you dont order the wrong thing. They.put a weird mayonaise sauce on my fried green tomatoes. Yuck. We dont do that in the south. But the meatloaf is good, great appitizers and a nice bar.
Good ambience and great food. Has a nice Southern flare with a good patio.
Had the shrimp and grits for dinner ... oh my.. the flavors were amazing. My first time eating fried okra and it was delish! Ambiance is nice I like the booth setup.
Celebrated my 3rd year anniversary with my parents who were visiting from out of town for the first time. Not only was the food good but my husband and I received a complimentary glass of champagne for our special night and it couldn’t have made our experience more delightful. Location is nice too! We had a good time and people were quiet at the table as they were eating. There’s a saying “ you know the food is good when nobody is talking, all you hear are lips smacking” thanks for the wonderful experience.. We’ll certainly be back.
This place was great. Went with folks from work for a birthday lunch. The fried green tomato appetizer was fantastic. It comes on a pimento cheese spread and was delicious. I will go back just for that. I had the catfish po boy with fries for lunch and it was pretty good as well. The environment with the openness was great too. I'm ready go back anytime for dinner.
Great southern food that makes you feel like you are in New Orleans without the humidity. Tremendous seafood grits and a mean flatiron steak. Well stocked bar and beignets.
Great food. Warm service. Terrific live jazz.
Awesome patio, food is always good, cocktails are awesome, and the service is on point. This has been my experience all 6 times I've been so far. Check out Beckett's Table too!
Great fried chicken promotion. Good flavors, interesting variations on some themes across the menu.
Visited the restaurant with friends for dinner. The restaurant puts a twist a various comfort foods. We visited with a child and the children's menu had the typical selections. Which was very good for a non-adventure child.
Friendly staff, delicious food, lovely atmosphere. We were on the patio, it gets a little loud with the choice loud car, but very comfortable seating. The booths inside looked cozy. The bathrooms were very clean. Loved the tiled floors and walls, also the textured glass on the top half of the doors with Gents or Ladies
Their fried chicken signature dish is bland and overpriced!
What a beautiful place! But they are super expensive and the food is really not solid. It’s like too many spices that aren’t meant to be in the food. Great location though - please get some regular blue cheese - better pork dish and bring back ribs full time!
SOUTHERN LIGHT RAIL what more can I say other than, Dang! Great cocktails and appetizers. Friendly and quick witted staff. They aim to please and to give the best on house service. If you are confused they will quickly manage you through to the end. Atmosphere is great, upbeat and casual. No pretension here, just like the South, come on in.
Great place for food and books
I love this place. Great food great service lively atmosphere open yet cozy. Nice for lunch and dinner. Great specials and happy hour. I recommend it for sure!
Delicious food, great service and atmosphere.
Pretty loud. Food and drinks excellent. We had fried green tomatoes on pimento cheese sauce, deviled eggs, fried oakra, baked Brussels sprouts in bacon and cheese. Gumbo do the bowl so you get the sausage. The lemonade cocktail has a cool spice kick.
Not a very good menu and very overpriced!
Hearing amazing things about this place we decided to go and explore what people were talking about. The first on the list was the Brioche Rolls with apple butter. Yes those are a must when you go to this place. Then we ordered the Roasted Sweet Potatoes which were just as enjoyable. I ordered the Shrimp po Boy which wasn't as spicy as I thought. I did order the mayo on the side with Gumbo. Which I would also recommend ordering. Then the desert of choice was the Chocolate Brownie which just melted in your mouth. So yes be sure to add that to your list of must haves. The atmosphere and service was extremely wonderful and I can't wait to go back.
Great tasting food
Wonderful food and atmosphere. First time here and can't wait to tell friends about it!
I have mixed feelings about this place the food taste delicious BUT the portions are small considering how much they charge. First I had the red beans and rice, loved it but I was searching for the MEAT and it was lukewarm when served. Then I had the collard greens still taste them right now, they were smack your momma good. BUT $7 FOR THAT SMALL PORTION ya need to be smacked and worst of all that no longer serve cornbread for the pot liquor but then they don't put any with the greens. YOU KNOW NUTHIN ABOUT SOUTHERNERS, I want to like this place but I can make the dishes myself and make the cornbread at home for a better price but sometimes you don't want to cook but with this I choose my cooking over southern rail.
We dined in Saturday Night July 13,2019, our waiter was great, food not so much. We came for the fried Chicken, and it was not cooked thoroughly, the Breast was the only piece that was fully cooked, at this point we lost our appetite. We advised the waiter and clearly he can see we did not touch the chicken after biting into a leg and the leg being not cooked. It was quite disgusting, probably the worst experience we have had with dining out. To top it off they did not take this off the bill. so we spent 90.00 on dinner we did not Eat. NEVER will I ever come back here again, dine at your own risk with this place.
Good food and great selection. The only complaint- I want finished picking at my food and the waitress kept trying to take plate! She ended up snatching it off the table before I had finished :(
We have frequented this restaurant several times. The food menu has unique choices and the food is always superb. The service has always been very attentive, conscientious, and helpful. The bar makes very good cocktails that don't taste watered down. The atmosphere is relaxed and makes you want to linger and "have another". It has become one of our favorites in the Phoenix area.
Pretty good food. Hardly any people there on a Friday night. It took quite a while to get a drink. But the food was good you should probably go see him before they go out of business as it is imminent.
The fried okra was not seasoned. Church's chicken has it better. The service was okay. The food we ordered was not up to par at all. It was our friends birthday n we did get a dessert plus we ordered another, which was average. Will I go back? No.
I saw this place get built from the ground up. They did a good job with the building now that it is completed.
Great service great food
All around great experience. Food was excellent and the ambiance was perfect. Been here twice and haven't had anything I didn't think was great!
I had the Fried Green Tomato Benedict. I don't normally order or like Eggs Benedict, but SR's is just phenomenal. The Creole Hollandaise sauce has just the right amount of flavor and kick. This time we added the Roasted Sweet Potatoes as a starter and the chutney was unique and tasty. We both loved it. Cant wait to go back.
A great place to enjoy delicious food by Chef Justin Beckett and attentive, efficient, and engaging staff, in a comfortable atmosphere. Your choice of indoor table, booth, bar or outdoor dining with nearby fireplace and portable heaters. One of our favorite places! Always an enjoyable experience.
This place was awesome, environment was amazing and food was awesome..Jason our waiter and Casey the manager did a wonderful job making this place a must visit again.
So over the top expensive for what I got which was a chicken and bisquit dish that was delicious but hardly any chicken abs bisquit. Lots of carrots. $21. Bread pudding dessert was $9 for a slice of brioche bread with bourbon sauce. Waitress was very nice and attentive.
If you love great southern food Southern Rail is the place for you. We started with the dirty rice balls and deviled eggs and yum! I tried the Cuban po boy and my fiance had the fried chicken. Sandwich was incredible and fried chicken had great crispy outside with juicy meat inside. We ended the night with the beignets, which couldn't have been a better ending.
Pretty yummy! Not very vegan friendly, but nice place for a drink, covered patio
Delicious food. Friendly atmosphere best service
Great place, great service, great food. Love this place.
This place has the best food & staff in Phoenix. Anything you order is great & fresh !!
Poor server experience this time. Prior visits were excellent. The food is always great. Definitely a gem.
The food was great, and the service was really a step above the competition. We showed up during the rush on a busy night, no reservations either. Even with that we were seated quickly. It did take a little longer than we likes before a server finally came to speak to us, but as soon as they realized our wait they apologized and made sure everything was perfect the rest if the night. I understand places can get busy and mistakes happen, it's how they fix the issue that really shines and the staff at Southern Rail came through in a big way. Been back a few times and the experience has been top notch every time.
This was a very nice place. It was not as expensive as you think made it out with 2 dinners and 2 beers and 2 cocktails.under 100.00 bucks
What a great place, wonderful food, beautiful presentation at a fair price. High end but not too fancy. A very special treat indeed
EAT ANYTHING THAT JUSTIN BAKES. It is a rare treat to have a Chef exited about baking and pastries. Chef Justin is one of those guys who actually ENJOYS it! So, do yourself a favor, and order the dessert or side of baked stuff and worry about the carbs later. Fried chicken is delish, collards are perfection, great craft beer selection, and, oddly satisfying unexpected people watching! Lol
Always a treat to take new folks to the valley there. The history is so great. Food is excellent & happy hour too. Love it!!
Went in for lunch on a Friday. There was only a few people in there, which may have been an indicator. Had the chicken and dumplings. It wasn't bad but for 19$ it should've been much better. Love the rustic atmosphere. Service was fast ecept I ordered a beer and didn't get it till my food arrived. It was a bottle of budweiser so that shouldn't have happened. I would try it again.
Visited on a Friday at lunch and it wasn't too crowded. Service was good. The decor is a bit more elegant than I would have expected for a restaurant with Southern cuisine, as was the presentation of the food. Unique take on Southern food and I would definitely return for dinner or happy hour as well as for lunch. The only thing I thought was odd was that you can add chicken to salads and other meals but the chicken was primarily dark meat. It was flavored well so I didn't mind, but usually adding chicken usually means chicken breast.
So we met my in-laws there for Father’s Day. The service was slow. My daughter had a nat in her drink, no big deal we told the waiter and he said he would replace it but it took him quite some time to come back with her drink. My kids did not enjoy there macaroni or chicken strips stating they lacked seasoning. They loved the fries. I had shrimp and grits, it was okay but not something I would come back for. My husband order a side of greens with his steak, they were probably the best thing we ate. The food is pricey for the experience and lack of flavor.
Casual, great service & awesome comfort food.
Today was my first time eating from this place I got a togo order of gumbo and beignet. The food was okay gumbo usually have more juice and mines was pretty dry also only one of my beignet didn’t get powder sugar on it. The gumbo was also a little bit too spicy almost to the point where I couldn’t eat much of it. However I will give them another shot.
Found this gem while in Phoenix this week. The restaurant has both a spacious inside and covered patio dining. I choose the patio. For appetizer, I had the pigs tail mac and cheese. Wow! Very flavorable, creamy, with perfectly cooked pasta. Would like to know how they got so much flavor in it. My main course was their Cuban poor boy with a side of gumbo. The gumbo was very meaty, hot and full of flavor. The poor boy was delicious, with a soft fresh bread roll. Service was excellent and I never felt like I was in need of anthing. Offering me a tea for the road, was the cherry on top. Ill be back, I suggest you go too.
The food and the service at Southern Rail Restaurant was fabulous. The upscale southern style menu offered many things to tantalize our tastebuds. Out server was over the top attentive. He took great care with our party of eight with one very active child. He even putting the name and date of what was inside out lil to go boxes. You will enjoy this place for any event.
Very cool and great atmosphere place. Food was pretty good. The combined restaurant and stores nearby (book store I believe?) Was very neat
Awesome food, great service, fair price! I had the Muffaletta burger with cured meats on a burger patty with an olive mixture on top. Outstanding meal and will definitely be coming back.
Enjoyed the vibe and hospitality at Southern Rail.
The food was outstanding....the staff were vary friendly.. I would recommend this for brunch anytime..
Great food, great service
Great Fried Green Tomatoes!
The food, service, drinks, atmosphere...everything was fantastic!! I’m from the south, and they have the best fried chicken I’ve ever had! The sides... collard greens and mashed potatoes were absolutely delicious too!
I don’t leave a ton of reviews but I hit this place on a whim and had my mind blown. Best effing cheeseburger I’ve had in ages, hands down, and it’s really tough to find a good burger in this area. Staff was friendly, attentive, and professional. Will definitely be coming back to try some more complex dishes and see what the experience is like outside of lunch.
Southern Rail is a refreshing and unique addition to the restaurant scene in uptown Phoenix. It's a little pricey, but worth it. I had the meatloaf, which was amazing. Not like Mom used to make, but I think the glaze is what did it. Also, at the time, they were doing Bourbon flights. They have a good selection.
Delicious. We loved the Deviled Eggs and Fried Chicken!
Great food in an good location and a very good jazz trio for entertainment
Great southern style food. Fry chicken is a must. Meatloaf was great.
Southern Rail is located in a redevelopment called the Newton. In addition, the complex houses community spaces, Southwest Gardner, and First Draft bar inside Changing Hands Bookstore. You can easily make an afternoon of wandering around, reading eating and enjoying libation. Thanks for the owners that took this old empty shell and gave this gift to the community. Now, about the restaurant itself... Cocktails aplenty and tasty ones at that. The menu is a creative take on southern comfort food. I enjoy the sampler and dirty rice balls whole hanging out on the awesome patio. The food is pleasing, well prepared and presented. If you like southern food this will be a great fit for you.
Came for lunch a few weeks ago and the food and atmosphere was good. I spent $16 for a sandwich and fries but it was good. My only complaint is that it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get in and out. Our group had 7 people and we split the checks but I waited 40 min to get the check after I requested it. It wasn’t even a busy day as far as occupancy goes either so I’m not sure what the deal was.
Always the very best! Food, ambiance & service. Always a good time at SR!
Great service... Lovely setting. All around a nice place to eat and have a cocktail.
Great atmosphere. Attentive staff. Only areas for improvement: The bar either did not have the materials,or did not know how to make a very common drink for my wife(which was a Midori Sour). She is not a wine fan,but was willing to try it because her drink was not available. I asked the waiter if the restaurant had less dry choices to suit her palate. All wines on the list are fairly dry, but he was very attentive. He recommended a Riesling or Sangria. My wife opted for a Sangria. She didn't care for it. It would have been nice if this was comped. Seeing as her original drink was not available. Great experience otherwise!
The food is awesome southern style, and sweet tea. First time there and waitress was awesome!!!
Great food. I really enjoyed the shrimp. Decent prices, good whiskey selection.
Delicious menu, which as a Southern transplant in the valley, is high compliments. They really nail gumbo, read beans and rice, grits, and more. The staff is also very knowledgeable and pleasant, without coming across as smug or arrogant. I'm so glad to have found this place.
Worst chicken ever. The breading on the chicken was very try like baking powder. The chicken was burnt without any flavor. My bill came out to be over $100.00 . Overall everything else was good
Always a chill place to hang out and have drinks. Glad they refreshed the menu, but I really miss the fried green tomatoes as their own appetizer. We normally go Saturdays around 2pm and it's not crowded, letting us visit for as long as we like without feeling like we're holding up other guests.
The food and service are excellent. It’s upscale casual like a lot of restaurants in Phoenix. The menu does not have a dud on it - all dishes are worth a try. In addition, there is an amazing bookstore, next to Southern Rail, with a bar. It’s called Changing Hands Books. It all makes for a great evening!
Great not so known gem. Perfect for romantic 1on1 time.
Glorious burger. Simplistic style but loaded with flavor. House made bun and 80/20 beef/bacon ground into the flat top seared patty so you still get that smoky flavor. This is now the best burger I've had in Phoenix.
Went to Southern Rail for lunch on a Friday and it was delicious! The restaurant has a nice open floor plan and enough seating options to cater to everyone. It was too hot to be outside on the patio but the inside was at the perfect temperature. When we got there it was shortly after open so not many people. We were seated right away and our drinks were delivered quickly. They don't mess around with the strength of their drinks, the price may be a little steep but there's nothing watered down about them! We skipped appetizers and went for the shrimp po'boy with gumbo and the muffaletta burger with red beans and rice. Both sandwiches were perfect, nothing too salty and both a good size. My friend enjoyed her gumbo. I was not super thrilled with the red beans and rice, the flavor was good but the beans were a little more firm than I like. We finished lunch by splitting the brownie, wanted beignets but they weren't available, the brownie was amazing! Our waitress was very attentive during our visit, checking in often but not obtrusive and kept our water full. The restaurant doesn't have a super huge menu but like their sister restraunt, Beckett's table, it isn't necessary because they do a great job with what they offer.
Great food! Great service! Knowledgeable staff. Wonderful wine list!! Really cool space.
Great service and food! The adjacent book store topped it off!
Excellent attentive and friendly service. Great wine, bourbon, scotch, drinks menu. Interesting appetizer menu, tasty Dirty Rice Balls. For dessert, French Quarter beignets are quite tasty. However, we were very underwhelmed with our main courses of meatloaf and flat iron steak. Almost no gravy for mashed potatoes, meatloaf was absolutely tasteless. Steak had plenty of gristle, to the point where my wife only attempted to eat one third. When we entered at 6:00pm and over the next hour, were surprised at the nearly empty dining room on a nice Saturday night. However we quickly understood the problem. This restaurant has promise, but it needs a top to bottom rethink of its main dishes.
Great food! The gumbo was amazing! The service is attentive and friendly
The sangria is awesome
Excellent visit. The food and drinks are exceptional. I've tried the Fried Green Tomato Eggs Benedict, Shrimp and Grits (So good), Red Velvet Pancakes (wouldn't order again) Deviled Eggs and Beignets (heavenly). The ambience is nice.
Always great service, staff does amazing dealing with our kids allergies.
i always come back for the fried green tomatoes.
Great food, great music, great service, great ambience - can't ask for more than that!
Amazing good food, hard to find the place
Top notch.
First time eating there, very small menu but great choices prices are a little on the up in the end however good portions good value service was great very quiet for brunch. A must try for brunch if you’re looking for southern style Creole food
Love this place. Mufaletta burger? Yes, thank you. Also beignets!
I really wanted to keep loving this place forever, but I was quite frustrated with our last visit. We went on a Saturday morning. The brunch menu online was 4x what the brunch menu in the restaurant actually was. And of course everything we wanted either wasn't being served because of that, or had been pulled from the menu since the last time we came. Fried green tomatoes were amazing, deviled eggs delicious, rice balls bland, sangria lackluster. The menu seems to be directed towards "safe"/"basic" southern twists. I get it, I just don't like it.
Good food, good environment.
First time visiting. Our server was outstanding, and the food and drinks were delivered quickly and devoured with delight! The beignets were especially nice after the meal.
My husband took me here for my birthday this year! Absolutely wonderful Southern hospitality! Beautiful atmosphere and Excellent service, all attention is for the customer! Smiles, smiles, smiles! They never run out! Gorgeous, flavorful cuisine! Yes, Southern Rail, I did ENJOY!!
Southern Rail is excellent for fine dining - great ambiance. The food is a unique gourmet take on southern classics. Great cocktails and beer and the wine list is pretty extensive. Highly recommend the fried chicken.
My friend and I visited for our lunch break. The portions were too small leaving us still very hungry but out of time to order anything else. Tasty but not out of this world. Short staffed so we weren't waited on until about 15 minutes after being there and rarely saw our server after that. We saw such great reviews on this place and enjoy visiting new restaurants but we were not impressed with this place at all and have never visited again.
