I went to have a late breakfast, but when I looked at the menu I was surprised at how expensive this little place was. It's been in Phoenix for a number of years as a popular spot for a.m. meals. The menu wasn't what I really was expecting or wanting, either. We left and went to IHOP instead. It fit our needs just right.
The food is some of the best I've tasted since moving here. The steak and eggs is my favorite but you can only get it on Sundays...bummer
Great service the food was INCREDIBLE!!! Best poached eggs ever! The texture was perfect which is usually hard to do in poached eggs. The waffles were fluffy and had a nice crunch on the exterior and the syrup was really good! All the toast is homemade!!! It’s super good and I would recommend this first to anyone.
Wow! We just happened on this place and then find out how incredibly famous they are and we loved all of it! 5 Star is not what I take lightly but excellent food service, size of meals, quality. Amazing. Highly recommendable
Got lucky being seated. Expect a wait if you do not go early. Service is excellent food is well prepared for the price. One thing I do like is food is from local businesses from jelly, bread, meat etc.
I'll admit I came here not expecting a lot, frankly i was ready to throw some eggos in the toaster at home but the wifey wanted to go out. Just ordered some simple waffles and bacon, and got absolute perfection! Thick, fluffy, crispy, golden waffles and Salty, thick cut, perfectly cooked slabs of bacon. I will never be buying pathetic, card board, frozen, waffles again in my life.
Matt's BB Never disappoints. They have creative menu choices, daily specials and friendly fast service. The thing that makes Matt stand out even more is a focused attention on quality. Everything from the entree, to the toast, to the jam and the coffee has been individually selected to be of unusual "best in class" quality and perfectly matched for the dish ordered. I had "the Skinny", it was awesome! AS A FOODIE I CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ENOUGH, JUST GO YOU WON'T REGRET IT. PS:. I always go on the early side, the secret is out and there can/will be lines during prime hours.
Went to the original Matt's when we got to town it was outstanding, really good, fresh food great coffee, 5 star. When I left ate at Matt's in the airport. The potatoes looked good, but tasted like the oil they were cooked in was rancid or something. The rest was good, but seemed less fresh than the original.
Don't be fooled by the decor. The service and the food are outstanding!
One of the best Eggs Benedict I have had. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and quick yet quality service.
Great food, Great prices great service! Recommend!
Excellent food! Menu is simple, with just a few choices, but the food is amazing. Beware you will have a wait to be seated on the weekends. The wait is well worth it. Good job folks!
The food was pretty good. It's breakfast. I liked my hashbrowns, they were nice and crispy and perfect. But.... I showed up when the doors opened with a friend I hadn't seen for a year and just wanted to eat and chat.... we were alternately (weirdly) ignored and hovered over and rushed through like cattle, and it absolutely ruined the place for me. So sad, I had heard great things and wanted to make the place a tradition. But of we're just gonna have to shovel it in and get out, we may as well hit Sonic and eat in the car.
Always a good choice. A five spot with a side of hashbrowns. What more can you ask for. In addition, they have delicious Matt's brand ketchup and hot sauce which will make your meal that much better. Matt's does get busy so tou should expect a wait during high peak hours.
I've never had a bad experience at Matt's. Congratulations Matt since the last time I visited you've I opened 2 more restaurants. Life must be good
Breakfast was good, service was quick, and the daily special was pretty tasty. The only thing I dinged them for was pricing. Food is priced reasonably but the drinks are $4 for a small (shot) of orange juice. Plus, the only thing they refill is coffee, water or tea. So that's the only thing i could "critic". Overall, Would dine with them again but just stick to water and tea.
Great atmosphere, plenty of good food. Limited selection, though.
The ham off the bone was perfect, and I loved the toast. The hash browns could have been better cooked though, but still pretty tasty.
Always love MBB. Only complaint is the creamers for coffee are too small.
Always a great place to get some food in my belly! Try the Horchata French Toast, its epic!!!
They will not seat partial parties, because there is ALWAYS people coming in. The food was AMAZING. SERVICE WAS GREAT! Prices are a little high.
The server's were good and friendly. Even though they were very busy. Will definitely go back. Keep up the good work!
Great atmosphere here! The staff all seem to share the same hospitality and helped one another out to succeed. They were all tentative and friendly. The food was great, I tried a little from everyones plates and my favorites were the rosemary home fries and the pancakes. We actually got placed in the front room that had one tall table with 6 chairs and a fireplace, it was a pretty cool spot...
The food is great! But the service, the communication (or lack there of), and overall general way of business is horrible! When we arrived, there was a line out the door. We had paid for metered parking, so I inquired about the wait time before we put our name down to insure adequate time on the meter. They said it should be a few minutes and not long at all. It took 50 minutes to get seated. Had they been upfront, we would have gone elsewhere, but tried it at a later date. We finally get seated. I notice the price of bacon and sausage are the same, so I inquire as to whether we can substitute sausage for bacon on the waffle (because it comes with bacon). They said no. It’s an extra up-charge of the price of sausage. I would have been happier had they kept the bacon on and paid for the sausage extra. It would have made more sense economically. I never got a refill on my water nor did my girlfriend. I’m very displeased by this place. The food is excellent, but because the service was horrible, I’ll never return. Hopefully you have a better experience.
Super cozy, delicious and friendly folks.
First visit. Wait was short and staff was kind, I loved the service. The Hog and Chick was delicious, I highly recommend it. Very cool vibe for a Sunday morning breakfast.
Very friendly top notch service and an interesting menu
Great staff! Sit at the bar. I've been in Phoenix 30 years now and this is quintessential downtown Phoenix if you're visiting from out of town got to hit Matts. You'll see the beautiful people from all over the valley they travel to go downtown for their Taste of the city just walking distance from the Farmers Market
The food was delicious and the service was helpful and quick the restaurant was clean presentation was acceptable for the price loved it
Soooooooooo disappointed in this place. Had high hopes. Saw all the amazing reviews, so I thought this place would be great. I was going to be making a stop in Phoenix so I thought why not. Customer service could had definitely been better and the food was mediocre.
I had the omelet with mushrooms sausage and provolone, it was one of the better omelets I've had. The sourdough toast with strawberry jam was the bomb! Its definitely worth stopping in.
Awesome breakfast. Great friendly servers.
Great restaurant for breakfast with so many delicious options.
Service was amazingly efficient. The food was excellent. Only drawback to being amazing is the wait to get in. It's worth the wait.
Extremely over rated. Basic food with no items "I have to have"
It was good, but over seasoned. Lots of black pepper in the gravy, the potatoes needed the delicious ketchup to tame them. I enjoyed it and would return to find something more my style. The ingredients were fresh and I get the feeling there's very high quality in the food. Busy place so be prepared.
Reasonable wait (10 minutes) despite being 10am on a Thursday. Shows how good the food really is. And it was. Absolutely delish. Great service as well. Hash browns were crazy good.
Went to Matt's after seeing it on Diner, Drive ins and Dives. Tried the waffles with bacon and a coffee. The coffee was good, bacon too, but I've had better waffles. Also service could have been better. Waitresses seemed annoyed and not personable.
Cool place, the waitress was so helpful & patient with me not being used to ordering breakfast in the US, the food was high quality & delicious, definitely an highlight of my trip in Phoenix!
I went to this restaurant with friends. The food was excellent. The servers where attentive. At the end, we got the check. We ask to separate the check. And the server said the check would be separated when we pay. So, we all went up to the cashier, where we were told we, the guests have to tell the cashier how much we owe.. The cashier said she can't separate the check. So it took about 15 min for us to pay. This is the reason why we never will go back..
Breakfast was amazing, best breakfast that I have ever had.
The atmosphere is so pleasant. The banter between the staff is so friendly. The bacon I got with my waffles was much bigger than expected, pleasant surprise. Even their teabag tea was fine, and I don't drink teabag tea. I will definitely be returning. And recommending this place to others.
Great food, very friendly and helpful servers. Very crowded for weekend breakfast / brunch but seated quickly. We sat in their front "display" room (one, high table next to large window) and while different, it was still pleasant with wonderful meal.
Everyone gushes about this place. I was really disappointed. Matt's Big Breakfast has a small selection and the portions aren't big. Lol I don't get it. Generic waffle. Bacon was super peppered and overcooked. My husband tried their own ketchup. Too thick and really sugary. Small establishment. We couldn't hear ourselves talk. Usually, I really love these little "trendy" places but the allure of this place is lost on me.
Great food and ambiance, but they recently changed the bar area to reserved seating, which makes it very difficult to eat if you're by yourself.
This place comes with big reputation, been in Phx 18 years and had never been. The potatoes and hashbrowns were both unique and very good, texture, flavor, perfectly cooked. The bacon was legit. I'm not sure it is the best breakfast in Phx, but very good, worth the visit and would not hesitate to grab another meal at Matt's.
I have never received as good service as I have here. Their service is the best I have experienced. Their food was great and put in record time as well.
This is a tourist spot for sure. The food was good but there are plenty of similar breakfast spots. The menu is fairly small and there are long waits on the weekend.
Generous portions of delicious homestyle eats. Their freshly ground coffee always hits that sweet spot!
Food was ok... Guy really let me down on this one. Management sucked. Pork chop came out rare and she said sorry. Gee thanks for your concern. Take it off my tab though... first n last time I go here.
Food was great and service was nice. Definitely started to fill up quickly around 7.
The bacon was something of legends. We enjoyed everything!
Noisy kitchen staff banging dishes and pots. Food was great, but the wait staff looked like they hated their job.
Hands down the best waffles in town! Their portions are generous, and the entire staff is extremely friendly.
Everything here is amazing. From their specials, to their lemonade, and that crazy homemade jam. Sooooo good!
Good food, good service. Somewhat expensive breakfast and limited menu. Had the pancakes and Friday special and both were very tasty! Fresh squeezed OJ and chocolate milk is delicious.

Very friendly top notch service and an interesting menu
The food was good, beans just needed to be a little more softer!
Soooooooooo disappointed in this place. Had high hopes. Saw all the amazing reviews, so I thought this place would be great. I was going to be making a stop in Phoenix so I thought why not. Customer service could had definitely been better and the food was mediocre.
Awesome breakfast. Great friendly servers.

Coffee is excellent and roasted local. Food was delicious. Condiments were custom to them, tasted homemade, and the catsup had a little bite to it (delicious!).
Great food and ambiance, but they recently changed the bar area to reserved seating, which makes it very difficult to eat if you're by yourself.

Noisy kitchen staff banging dishes and pots. Food was great, but the wait staff looked like they hated their job.
Very intense and rushed vibe, homefries with rosenary has good intentions but turns out burned and mushy at same time, the same goes for the so calked thick cut bacon
Hands down the best waffles in town! Their portions are generous, and the entire staff is extremely friendly.
Everything here is amazing. From their specials, to their lemonade, and that crazy homemade jam. Sooooo good!
Had a good experience here. Had to wait a bit, but with a party of 7 that's expected. Amazed that they got us seated as soon as they did. Server was friendly but while taking order stayed curiously fixed at one end of the table. Since it was loud, that meant that people at the other end had to almost shout their orders. That was kind of weird. Food was fine. Blueberry honey lemonade had no discernible blueberry flavor, but the honey flavor was nice. Griddlecakes were thick, light, and fluffy. Delicious. Sausage patties were tasty but dry. Waffles were a big hit. Sourdough toast was nice. Very busy and crowded but didn't feel like we were sitting on top of the people next to us, either. Parked at the lot behind the old Matt's. Probably not the best breakfast I've had, but we'll return at some point.
Slow service and it was difficult to eat the food I ordered due to bread being to hard. My friend did enjoy her food. It would be great if they offered gluten free items.
Wow truly amazing breakfast. I just love the food and service beyond exceptional.
Great food, big portions! Service is awesomely efficient!
Delicious food. Daily specials. Walkable from downtown hotels.
Nice modern old school spot to enjoy breakfast. Satisfied customers, food delicious just a little louder than expected. Either way nice establishment! Thank you MBB !!!
Never been here before. Just looked around google and find it as a typical breakfast restaurant in Phoenix. And boy, it was good! There was waiting time for a table but the long line went fast. Place is not that small but there is just way to many people wanting to eat here. Any dish is good. Typical American breakfast! Tables and just about everything was kind of crowded. Staff was very kind and friendly.
Great place for breakfast, coffee is the really good I order the high and chick not disappointed
Phenomenal service and tasty food. A little pricey though.
Terrible host. Told us it would be 20 minutes. After 45 minutes I finally went and checked on our table and he claimed he called us earlier and clearly he did not. Had a bad attitude and wouldn't back down. Hiring a new host would make an instant improvement to a place with excellent food.
Not free parking, nice but noisy and a bit dark (for those with bad eyesight), food was good but nothing spectacular (no "wow!" factor), service was quick, people were quick to honestly greet.
The food is good but not enough to warrant the long waits.
This is a popular place, so on a Sunday morning you may have to wait awhile. The sunshine made the wait a joy outside. Once seated, we had a delicious breakfast. The wait staff is very attentive. Decent prices.
The food was amazing and the staff was attentive, kind, and quick. There was a line when I arrived and when I left but well worth the wait!
I have never had a better breakfast. Don't tell my mom, but it is better than her home cooked breakfast
The reviews i read were correct, Matt's gives u basics done very well. Worth a visit and a small wait ( and believe me u will wait.) ,
Amazing breakfast and awesome lunch options. I don't know why it took so long for me to eventually eat here, but you shouldn't! Highly recommend, as it seems others do too.
Breakfast was delicious, fresh and hot. Home fries seasoned to perfection, home made jam is really good. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. You get your money's worth.
No acoustic considerations--exposed ceiling, metal chairs, and metal and brick walls, so super super loud. Food is all right but still overpriced. $5 for a glass of orange juice is a bit steep.
Thank you for reading the Honest Reviews4u! If you are in downtown and are a need of a good breakfast this place is it. The location is very busy but totally worth the wait. The food is very good fresh and organic. I really enjoyed eating the bacon and ham with egg and sausage. The sourdough bread with homemade jam was delicious. The pancake and waffle are big and fluff with chocolate topping. This restaurant will make you say IHOP/Denny's who? The female manager was great and sweet. I highly recommend this place!
Super good food at a great price.
This place is pretty great!!! The food is very very very very very very very good. I love it!
This place is probably my all time favorite place for breakfast. Super homey and cozy, and their bacon is the best I've ever had. They offer seasonal lemonades too which are already equally as good.
Menu choices were extensive. Clean. Well prepared food. Pleasant surroundings and staff.
Good food good and great atmosphere
Wonderful service great atmosphere excellent meal!
One of the few places I will even go by myself. I love the pancakes. Just wish I could still eat like a 20 year old. The bacon is great, but not the super sweet kind offer in many other restaurants. This bacon thick and peppery. Take the family. Avoid the downtown crowd and go to Matt’s near the ASU campus. Hardly a crowd at all on Saturday. I am sure this does apply on days of a football game. Order any item and you will be happy and very full.
Best best breakfast place in all of Phoenix. The place is industrial funky, the staff is very friendly and accommodating the service is fast and the food is outstanding. This is. Must visit
Great food , great value, old school diner atmosphere. Cool place but do not get the coffee, very expensive.
The skinny and the waffle with bacon and their maple syrup all taste sooo amazing and are my absolute favorite things on their menu! Love their jams also!
I love this place. The food is always delicious and is at a fair price. Be prepared to wait though because it’s always packed. It is completely worth it, though. The Five spot breakfast sandwich and the blueberry lemonade are my favorites.
The food is great, really great but the staff all knows it. Expect to be barked at by the host as they point at your table in the distance and hand you a menu. The servers stop by and demand a drink and food order then disappear until it's time for the check. Once the check is down they move super fast and will grab it before your credit card hits the table and swipe your plates as they shoo you out the door.
The breakfast here are so good! They give you great portion. Very nice staff
Other than having to pay for parking. Outstanding service and staff. Food delectable & plentiful Will return
The wait was worth it! And with the weather being beautiful and water available outside even the wait wasnt bad. There's few only a few options but they're all delicious. If you love breakfast food you'll be happy here.
The hype is true and the breakfasts are certainly big at MBB! The hosts and waitstaff are friendly as everyone adds they're name to the wait list. Once you're seated, the staff is super friendly and attentive! The servings are huge so they're great for sharing and everything tastes fresh and homemade!
Great service and all of the food was full of fresh flavors
Good place for a healthy and tasty breakfast. I visited this place with my husband for a breakfast last week and we had a wonderful time over here. Well- dressed staff and greeted us with a smile. Neat and clean place and delicious food at a decent price. It was absolutely an amazing experience.
This place is amazing, the atmosphere is wholesome, very welcoming staff. We were greeted at the door with a smile, seated immediatly. The food was great
Best breakfast in town, love the Eggs Benedict special with hash browns on Thursdays!
Breakfast all day, lunch starting at 11. Small but good menu. Great, friendly, fast moving staff. Small restaurant, but tasty, big portions.
Matt’s Big Breakfast has the friendliest staff ever! I didn’t even know for sure who our server was because everyone kept stopping by to check on us. It was delicious, but a little spendy for their juices.
Food was ok. Service was friendly. It was busy and the atmosphere was loud. It was hard to be able to hear the people at your own table.
Great breakfast place had the classic eggs Benedict with thick cut bacon! Excellent, only available on Thursday worth the trip!
Great food, service is extreme team work oriented, love that. Fast service. The wait was about 30 minutes for two on a Sunday between 9:00 and 10:00am. It is a very small and loud place. Come here to eat fantastic food and leave, Very fast paced. We will be back!!
True to its name this no frills restaurant serves a big breakfast.reasonably peiced and fast efficient service. I ordered the pork chop with eggs and it was as I expected it to be. The hash browns we're crispy outside and creamy inside
Great, quality food and service. Cute spot. Wish they had more than one restroom.
Some of the friendliest and most hospitable staff I've ever encountered. The coffee is outstanding as well as the food. I highly recommend. Get the delicious homemade sausage patties for sure.
Nice servicing and communicative staff. Environment was friendly with friendly people and no match for food quality.
The food and service is fantastic! It's a good amount of food that's filling, delicious, and the service is The only thing is its $30 for two meals; but it IS located in downtown Phoenix and you do get a lot of food on your plate. I got the skinny and I couldn't eat another bite after that. Also, they dont have fountain drinks, so I'd say that's the only real downside to this restaurant
Breakfast was okay. Nothing to write home about as their menu suggests. Hashbrowns came out extra crispy. Waiter forgot a few things and we only saw her when she took the order and dropped off the check. The Honey Lemonade was amazing however.
Great breakfast joint! Plenty of tables and counter seating as well. Great quick service. Waffle and bacon was delicious!
Oh I love this place. They open at 6:30 am. Very lively and super friendly staff. I went there twice and had great conversations with them both times. They keep pouring coffee so your coffee stays hot and fresh. And the breakfast places are all big portion, so make sure you go there hungry.
I've visited four times, ordered four different things and am still trying to figure out what all the hype is about. Not gluten-free friendly.
I went in there hungry and expecting for big breakfast selections. I got exactly the opposite, all their meals are small and boring. Nothing great about this place at all. Even their coffee Creamer is just whole milk. Never going back.
This place was packed at 9 a.m.. they were shipping people in and out. I sat at the bar I couldn't figure out how much water I drink because she kept it topped off. Excellent service excellent patrons excellent food.
Great service, great food.
Everything is so delicious and made to perfection. You have to try the Belgian waffles OMG THEY ARE THE BEST!!
We had a very good breakfast, we went on saturday around 9am and we had to wait around 20+ min but it was not a bad wait they have some free water and a lot of seating outside - weather was good enough. Breakfast was really good but I give it 4 stars because the bacon had quite some pepper and I dont remember reading about it in the menu so my toddler couldn't eat it.
Nice modern old school spot to enjoy breakfast. Satisfied customers, food delicious just a little louder than expected. Either way nice establishment! Thank you MBB !!!

Definitely big, delicious and worth the wait!
DISGUSTING!!! NEVER COMING BACK!!!!!! terrible service and if it couldn’t get worse the food was even worse!
Great breakfast place had the classic eggs Benedict with thick cut bacon! Excellent, only available on Thursday worth the trip!
Oh I love this place. They open at 6:30 am. Very lively and super friendly staff. I went there twice and had great conversations with them both times. They keep pouring coffee so your coffee stays hot and fresh. And the breakfast places are all big portion, so make sure you go there hungry.
Nice staff, great food. The cheest omelet was amazing.
This is a must stop for me whenever I'm in Phoenix. Prepare for a potential wait in line. Food is delicious and on point. Service had been really good. Portions are decent but the quality is so outstanding that it's always more than enough. I've had everything from their pancakes to their scrambles and so far nothing has gone wrong.
I have been to several of the restaurants featured on Diners, Drivins and Dives. Non have measured up to the comparison as well as Matt's. Incredible depth to the rich flavors. I will definitely be back!
My manager, heading out of town to teach a 3 week class, dragged my night-owl butt out of bed early before work to make me eat some once a week, Wednesday morning french toast. I like French Toast, don't get me wrong, but I don't ever order it from a restaurant because... it's french toast. Matt's FRENCH TOAST, will be ordered again. I will wake up early, I will drive from the Far-West side, it will be IN MY BELLY! If you told me that donuts we're cut out circles of Matt's French Toast, I could believe it. Perfect texture, not soggy, not too much powdered sugar. It was just right. Did I mention: real maple syrup? Wednesday morning only! I got there around 6:45 am, was seated immediately. Everything else was great too, but unforgettable french toast.
Treat yourself and get breakfast here. Really delicious. the home fries they have are a delight. Honestly, you'll probably have to wait for a little bit. But, well worth the wait!! Enjoy!
Food is incredible, great service, definitely worth the wait. Industrial chic, retro atmosphere...come hungry!
The restaurant is a very busy small restaurant that many locals love. Our wait was only 10 to 15 minutes we were seated rather quickly and a server came up and got our drink order. Where is the menu found what we want it and placed an order. The food was typical breakfast Fair nothing special and it was expensive I was surprised when the table next to us ask for more syrup for their pancakes and was told it was an extra charge for what they charge for any other place you would think that they would give them more syrup for the pancakes that being said it is a decent place I do not think it is worth the money they charge and I probably would not go there again.
Best bacon I had in a long time if not ever. Great food will be back for sure.
Matts big breakfast was a hit... The bacon was thick cut and delish... The waffle was one of the best i had in a very long time.. Beats lolos chicken n waffles all day... And the homemade strawberry jam was to die for... Definitely worth the money and the time to visit this place
The food is consistently very tasty... The menu is a little small, which is generally not a bad thing, but their offerings in general are quite simple. I don't enjoy buying food I could make myself, like a scramble. The ingredients themselves are clearly high quality.
Awesomeness place to eat for all diets. My daughter brought me here for my birthday, I loved it!
Great coffee, had a really great omelet, and terrific service. Minor annoyances were that it's a little loud, and the has browns were too greasy for my taste. But I definitely would go back again.
Kind of loud, but the outstandingly good and fresh food is worth it, no need for stimulating conversation in the morning anyway! Excellent coffee. Visiting from the east coast but I will return to Matt's before I head home.
Delicious food! We waited 20 minutes for a table, but the wait was worth it. If you don't mind a noisy, busy restaurant, this is the placeto go for breakfast!
Best hashbrowns! And eggs! Delicious raspberry lemonade! Every table occupied when I arrived at 7am, opened at 6:30. Several ate at the bar, very comfortable. Efficient service, delicious food.
Great pork loin omelette and service was top notch!
Biscuit and sausage gravy with scrambled eggs and potatoes. Gravy was the best part... Nice little zing.
Best spot for breakfast in the valley in my opinion. The bacon is worth it alone. Homemade preserves and juices are worth trying. Not an expansive menu, but that’s part of the charm. Really wish they had a liquor license so I could get a Bloody Mary, but that’s really my only complaint. If going on the weekend, be prepared to wait a little bit. They do put fresh, fruit infused water outside for everyone waiting.
Great Breakfast, Fast Service, Beyond Friendly Service. Best part is the service. After being to so many disappointment breakfasts in downtown Phoenix Arizona, this place for sure raises the bar. If you are in the area I strongly recommend this place.
Food and service are just good. It's a Seat yourself type of place, so It took a little time for a server to realize we were there. It is extremely loud and cold. I have now experienced it and won't go back. That's just me.
The food was great.. but their large orange juice is a small in other places (and yes still freshly squeezed) so.. I'll go for the food but maybe stick with water
Great price for the excellent quality of the food and the portions. Quick and friendly service. Will definitely come back!
Best pancakes I have ever tasted
Yummy breakfast, I looked at him through google maps and I read the reviews and navigated to it. The food was good and had good amount.
Extremely high standard of cuisine, coupled with great restaurant atmosphere. Very courteous/happy staff. Such great breakfast. I really love this place. It's absolutely amazing! One of the best places that serve you the best food.
It was just OK...Pork chop over cooked & under seasoned, breakfast potatoes had so much rosemary that we left most of them. Pancakes were again just OK
Matt's is a has been, back in the day terrific, now living in the past glory. 4 get bout it.
Good service, good food, really good juice, just slightly overpriced for what it is.
I was skeptical, but food ingredients make better food. Loved it. Staff is wonderful. Food was memorable. (In a good way).
Enjoyed my visit! I got the breakfast sandwich and it was good but the bread was pretty dry. The home fries are yummy but they went overkill with the rosemary on them, but easy to pick off. The waffles and pancakes were so good
Cool spot. Great food. Super fresh. Worth the wait. Definitely!!!
the menu was straight forward with a bit of creativity. I ordered a skinny breakfast. The portion was perfect for a large person with an appetite who is trying to eat healthy. They let me substitute salad for fresh melons for $1 up charge. The service was really good, smiles all around and very attentive without invading your personal space.
Absolutely excellent breakfast place! Every element was totally awesome, and the service was great. Can’t wait to come back!
Great little joint. We had a great breakfast. The menu is somewhat small but everything we at was excellent. My wife and 2 daughters enjoys the breakfast. My wife and one daughter had the French toast special. It was truly awesome. Serving sizes for ever diah was very plentiful. My other daughter had a breakfast sandwich which also was very taste. I had the chick and hog plate which was eggs and ham and has browns. The place was packed and parking is tough with not alot of space but it is well worth the effort. We arrived to a packed house but our wait was minimal and we were placed in a room at the front of the restaurant. We enjoyed our time and the waitress was very help and attended all our needs. She kept our coffee full and was very pleasant. We definitely will be coming back. Just go with the knowledge that this place is busy for a reason. Slow down and enjoy your morning. If you are in a hurry, you might want to find something else but if you want a great meal and have some time to enjoy it, then this Matt's is your place.
By far my favorite place for breakfast. I have been a regular customer ever since the place opened. The menu is basic but the food is very fresh and absolutely to die for. I asked the owner once why basic eggs, bacon, and home fries tasted so much better than any I have eaten elsewhere. He told me the it was all about the freshness of the food they prepared. Almost everything they make comes from local growers and the farmer's market in downtown Phoenix. For years I had breakfast there almost everyday of the week. Prices are reasonable and the staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. There is only one drawback and that is how noisey the restaurant is. There needs to be some sound absorbing coverings for the walls or whatever they use to dampen noise.
Nice Sandwich shop for lunch. Not many choices, but assuming from the name, it would have been a better breakfast stop. Service was friendly and quick.
The menu is simple, yet very tasty. Portions are not too large where you feel totally stuffed, but enough to make you satisfied. Place is on the small side, but the staff worked hard to ensure service was efficient with how busy they were.
This place is bomb. Sometimes you do get a bit of a wait, but the service at this location was on point, the girl at the bar took great care of us and again the food was delicious. Way way different than our experience at the Biltmore location
Great food and great service! The only thing is it is very small so there is always a wait, but it's worth it!
Came here for breakfast on Saturday morning around 11. Once I were seated, I were greeted by friendly wait staff ready to get any drink orders. I got the chocolate milk which was great! The inside of the cup was lined with extra chocolate syrup which made it extra chocolatey and delicious. I also ordered the pancakes, sourdough with preserves, and the five spot breakfast sandwich. Everything I got was great! For $6.50 the five sport breakfast sandwich is huge with perfectly cooked bacon and meaty cheese. the pancakes was also the best I have had in the Phoenix area which is quite the accolade since it's usually all he orders at breakfast spots. I don't know how a simple toasted sourdough butter and preserves are so delicious but it really was worth the hype in my opinion.
Best breakfast spot in arizona and im a New Yorker!!
Matt's has great food, super friendly staff and cool decor, but it's always super busy and very loud. Trying to have a conversation with my friend was almost like yelling, but again everything else was great. Also amazing house hot sauce.
We were visiting Phoenix for the first time and we’re looking for breakfast. This place had a wait on a Monday morning, but I’m not surprised. Delicious food, generous portions, nice space. It was hectic, but that didn’t affect customer service at all. Highly recommend coming by. There is a special for each day of the week. I recommend the home fries over hash browns, but I don’t think you can go wrong here.
The staff will take care of you. It’s nice to have a solid place with good food, well sourced in a nice atmosphere. But it’s rare for a staff to make a homelike atmosphere. That takes character and care. Special kudos to the manager, Simon, for helping and going above and beyond in kindness and service.
Despite arriving at an off peak time, this place was packed. The menu was a little more upscale than I had expected, but the pricing was quite reasonable. The food is made to order, so it takes a little time, but is definitely worth the wait. The staff are friendly and attentive. I look forward to returning soon!
This place is amazing!!! The breakfast sandwiches are to die for! The customer service is top notch. I am in crutches and I came to pick up my to go order. The hostess was so nice, she walked me to my car and helped me with my food!! 15/10 would recommend!
Matt’s Big Breakfast is worth the wait! The staff works as a team. They were attentive and efficient to all the guests. The food was plentiful and delicious. We’ll be back for the 5 star customer service and breakfast!
WOW! Killer food and we were seated in the little room up front. Amazing experience. 5 stars for food, service and atmosphere.
My son thought I would like this place. It is a nice place. Breakfast was more then I could finish! Food was delicious.
Great place. Fantastic efficient service. Had to wait a little, but definitely worth it. The waffle was good, the bacon amazing, crispy, great crunch and flavor. The egg scramble was also really good. Very cheesy and tasty. The rosemary potatoes left a wonderful taste in your mouth. One of the best breakfast places I have been to.
A group of a friends and I came here about a year ago before finals. We had the best breakfast there. The hashbrowns and bacon were very good. While it was packed, the atmosphere was laid back and nice. The server was sweet and nice. We will be coming back for another good breakfast.
The food is delicious. The quality of the food is on point, and portion size as are f as girly large. So many things are made in house. They have a variety of great homemade jams and freshly squeezed orange juice. You can get breakfast staples as well as Mexican breakfast staples.
Very very tasty. Had the French toast with real maple syrup so yummy.
Wonderful food. Had the eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast with jam. It was incredible. Quick service. Neat atmosphere. Definitely a great place to eat.
Great bfast.....chicken sausage was delish....the potatoes were ABSOLUTELY amazing....Must try this place if you haven't.
Was large portions and good food. Was a very busy place but still received our food in great time. The server's were good and friendly. Even though they were very busy. Will definitely go back. Keep up the good work!
Had a great brunch with my mom, both of our meals were wonderful. Would definitely recommend and go back !
The food was delicious and well worth the wait which was only like 20 minutes
Great way to start your morning. Waffles and bacons are highly recommend
Food is absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is very unique and modern. I highly recommend this place!
Cool atmosphere and good food (seriously, the bacon must be harvested straight from bacon heaven it's so good). Prices come through on the higher side, so be prepared for that. If you're lucky and your party is the right size, you can snag the front little window room for a unique sort of fishbowl solitude. Give this place a try! There's a reason it's a Phoenix staple.
My favourite meal is a big, American breakfast. Prepared with fresh ingredients. Thick bacon. Great service. Fresh coffee. This place is amazing. I am in PHX for a work trip and I have eaten here 10x. I am trying to work my way though their menu. It's a wonderful place, great food and the staff are great! Add to that they were featured on a Food Show, and you are assured of a meal that will make your heart strings vibrate! :)
One of the best, if not the best, breakfast spot in Phoenix. Everything is delicious and you get that small diner atmosphere with big flavors. I have not had a bad meal there and I always take new people to Phoenix here. Be aware: this place is incredibly popular so there is generally a long line to get in. They do work quick to get people in and out which is great. Great little spot in downtown Phoenix also with a lot of art and neat artifacts around the building. If it is a hot day, consider and umbrella, as space is limited inside to stand and there isn't much shade outside. Worth every amount of wait though.
Great food and prompt service. First time I've been here because it's so hard to get in. Tucked in downtown Phoenix in a cozy little building. If you can get a table you will definitely not be disappointed!
Fast service in such a busy place. The daily special was the eggs Benedict, it was amazing! Had waffles on the side to share and it was delicious. We will be returning for the great food and great service.
The food was amazing! I had the pork chop, eggs and potatoes and they were sooo good! The rosemary potatoes was seasoned right, crispy and soft. The chop was seasoned just right and those eggs.. Yummy!!
The breakfast was worth the wait, and it was big by the way!! The thick bacon was very good, the orange juice was fresh squeezed, and the coffee from a local roast house. Doesn't get much better than that
Came here from Vegas and totally loved the food and service. A very hip place to eat loved everything about it. Amber of course took very well care of us. Thanks guys Cust for life, will recommend to others and will be back hopefully soon..
It was good. The salsa Verde, had too much lemon. Was hoping for crispier waffle, though flavor was good. Bacon is good but had too many burnt pieces, the oil or grill should be cleaned out more often. Orange juice freshly squeezed, coffee is good.
Great atmosphere and the food is very good.
Nice staff, great food. The cheest omelet was amazing.

Food was good, but felt very rushed by staff who obviously wanted to get us out as fast as possible.

Staff was very polite, and the food was amazing! If you want quality breakfast food go here. Still thinking about the delicious bacon...

Good food, simple and flavorful, hearty ketchup, and very attentive service. The acoustics are horrible, (stone walls and metal chairs), so don't go there for an intimate chat: part of the industrial atmosphere.
Great food and prompt service. First time I've been here because it's so hard to get in. Tucked in downtown Phoenix in a cozy little building. If you can get a table you will definitely not be disappointed!

Wow what a great find!! The restaurant was super clean tha staff made us feel like we were friends and the food was awesome. Just moved here from far away and just found a great place, if I could give 6 stars I would. Thanks
Best breakfast sandwich I've ever had... Highly recommend
I'm shocked at how awesome this food was. The venue was a little small and crowded. It would be nice if they moved into a larger venue.
Great food and awesome service. Highly recommend
The breakfast home fries are great, and the toast. Eggs are eggs, but they are cooked good. Great breakfast, a must try
We love Matt's Big Breakfast. We live on the East Coast but visit AZ every year. No trip is complete without Matt's. We never miss it. Their food is always fresh & delicious.
Never fails. Always great food.
A bit of a twist on the old school diner. It's a diner but with a more modern feel. The food was fantastic and had a good variety.
Great food. The wait was about 30-40 minutes, but well worth it. Great service as well.
One of the best breakfast places in town! I always get the waffle and my wife always gets the hog and the chick. We have NEVER been disappointed. Remember to get there early to avoid the wait. Otherwise, wait. Because its worth it!
We specifically came downtown on visit to check Matt's out. It was fantastic. This place was a well oiled machine with all the servers and staff helping one another. They made it easy for our daughter to have a high chair and she was just enthralled with all the hustle and bustle. The food was the best kind of breakfast food.
I had the pork chop hash browns and sourdough bread coffee it was good. I thought the pork chop could have a little bit more flavor but it was good
Great waffles and bacon, got some nice scrambled eggs on the side too (menu says 1 egg, but you can order several). Polite and friendly service. Only negative is that it's very noisy inside when it's busy (which is all the time, seems like).
Fantastic breakfast and a great walk from hotel thru ASU Downtown Campus.
The food was excellent. I would have given 5 stars but we had a long wait in the Phoenix sun.
I've been coming to this location for 3 years now and I can't say enough great things about it. If you've never tried it, TRY IT. Don't even worry about the 30 minute wait. It's worth it, I promise you!
Good service, not inexpensive but worth a visit.
Very popular spot in the Phoenix arts district with a modern diner feel to it. I had the Reuben which was delicious. Expect to wait a bit if you go at peak times. The only thing that could have made it more pleasant is if they had offered breakfast cocktails.
They were super busy but the food was excellent.
Came in and sat at the counter. The server was prompt and courteous. We had a little mishap with our order, but the manager took care of it right away. I was impressed and will return whenever I am in the area! Great Reuben sandwich and awesome customer service.
Food was great staff was very friendly
Great service the food was INCREDIBLE!!! Best poached eggs ever! Good job.
DANK food that is fast, filing, great service and they really make a great deal. The portions are perfect and had me full but not feeling like I overindulged. Overall, a fantastic place I would recommend for anyone that is in the are because it won't disappoint.
My wife and I went to this place looking for a breakfast joint before I went for jury duty. The place is small and a little noisy but the portions are amazing and the prices are not too shabby. I had the biscuits and gravy and my wife had the chop & chick. Both were amazing and the home fries were perfect on her plate. Should've had those instead lol.
Waited a year to get in... line is always long even mid week! But totally worth it. Had the daily scramble... eggs and hash browns. Took a little while (15 mins) but the staff was always ready with coffee refills. Staff says get there before 7am to avoid the lines (they open at 630). Highly recommend.
It was a Manchester City morning when we visited Matt's Big Breakfast to celebrate the winning the English treble. Everything tasted lovely and the wait was well worth it. I'm looking forward to Steak and Eggs on Sunday in the near future.
Great breakfast. The menu was lacking vegan options, but the staff was able to accommodate. Had an excellent scramble, their hot sauce really made it.
A local favorite ... Great breakfast. Always stop in when I fly into Phoenix.
I want to go back! My wife and I split 2 plates. The bacon was phenomenal , the eggs were great, the pancakes scrumptious, the bread soft and the jam tasty, the orange juice and lemonade were refreshing. We did have a bit of a wait on a Saturday morning, but I would wait double the time to eat here again. Well worth it.
Great place for breakfast, yummy food, great service.
Visiting from out of state. A lot of locals recommended this place and now know why. Very good food.
Niche restaurant just north of downtown Phoenix that is spam packed Saturday and Sunday mornings. I'm not even sure they accept reservations anymore, so call ahead or prepare to wait. Menu is decent but brief. Not a whole lot of selection, which is what diners prefer these days IMO. I ordered The Skinny which is hopefully as good for me as it tasted. My only criticism is the price point. Breakfast entree with a drink is going to cost you approximately $15 or essentially $20 after tip. Not super painful, but I would hope to have my mouth more impressed if I'm spending $20 on breakfast. If that price point doesn't bother you, you're gonna love this place. The service is very good. Our server tried to shim our wobbly table while I chatted with my guest. I thought this was very thoughtful of her. I appreciate above-and-beyond service like this.
Banging breakfast. I'm sure the rest if their menu is good too but I always get breakfast. The specials are always amazing. It can get crowded on weekends so expect a wait but it's always worth it.
Friendly staff, delicious food, really nice environment. Opens at 6:30am even on a Sunday - wonderful if you've woken up early due to jet lag and need a nice big breakfast to cheer you up!
Great place and location for delicious breakfast! Great service
Very popular place but well worth the wait. A group of us had breakfast and wasn’t disappointed with any of our meals. Definitely check it out.
Great food very fast service just hate they dont have any others sodas besides rc cola
Had the special and girlfriend had the Hog and chick, it was so good this was my first time here and I have to say it was an overall great experience. We will be returning for sure not doubt about it. The people there are friendly and very down to earth.
Great environment, fantastic and filling food for a decent price
Fresh great food at a reasonable price. Can't ask for more than that. Their Monday special of huevos rancheros was amazing.
Wait time on a Sunday was about 25 minutes. Seated at a small, crowded table. Breakfast looked delicious, but we did not stay. We were looking for brunch and cocktails and this restaurant does not serve any alcohol of any kind. Will have to revisit on a day that is not as busy as a Sunday.
Overrated hipster breakfast joint with super greasy hash browns. Last time I ate here was a takeout order in which I found glass shards. The management treated me like I was trying to scam them when I reported this.
Butter. Lots of butter. Oozing and dripping out of my hash browns. A heart attack on a plate. Eggs were good. Bacon was just salty, no smoke or other taste. Sourdough toast was good. Service was poor.
Excellent food! Best bacon!
Food was great, wait sucks! Waited almost an hour to be seated. Recommend the griddle cakes :)
The staff service at the counter was excellent. Just not very impressed with the food. The grains and greens were bland and the poached eggs were a little on the hard side. My Dad had the special, chorizo and eggs. He liked it, but still nothing special. Coffee was very good. The wait was long and this might have contributed to my disappointment in the food since I didn't see what waiting so long was all about.
What a great experience!! I love their food + great service.
Great Bacon. The meal was very good and the staff very nice. Yummy
The bacon was to die for! Also wonderful bread and so fluffy omelets! The home fried potatoes and the hash browns make me drool in my sleep!
Great food and excellent
The wait was pretty bad but it goes to show how great their food and service is. Loved loved loved this place! I had the salami scramble with home fries (to DIE for) and toast. Their orange juice was homemade not Minute Maid haha. Will be back for sure!
Popular, but was impressed by how well they manage the line! Food and service great.
Tried this place based on a recommendation and was pleased with the food, service, and value. Above average. BLT was pretty good but a bit on the dry side. A bit too much bread. Would definitely come back. They have some parking in the back.
As always Max big breakfast out did itself as it does every time that I patronize the restaurant
Wow what a great find!! The restaurant was super clean tha staff made us feel like we were friends and the food was awesome. Just moved here from far away and just found a great place, if I could give 6 stars I would. Thanks
I'm shocked at how awesome this food was. The venue was a little small and crowded. It would be nice if they moved into a larger venue.
Fantastic as always. We sat at the bar for fast service. The rosemary potatoes made my day; so tasty.
One of the best breakfast places in town! I always get the waffle and my wife always gets the hog and the chick. We have NEVER been disappointed. Remember to get there early to avoid the wait. Otherwise, wait. Because its worth it!
I had the pork chop hash browns and sourdough bread coffee it was good. I thought the pork chop could have a little bit more flavor but it was good
Fantastic breakfast and a great walk from hotel thru ASU Downtown Campus.
Good simple food. Tasty. Loud type of buzzing vibe.

Great food that's worth the wait. I don't recommend for large groups. All the great comfort breakfast foods you could want.
